Women just negotiated a major concession from aetna which is owned by. Cvs healthcare corp. the insurance company has agreed to cover gender affirming surgery like breast augmentation for trans women. They maintain that the surgery was medically necessary and their doctors. Back them up. Gender dysphoric by definition is the psychological distress. That happens when someone's getting identity is different from their body. Facial surgery and voice surgery have traditionally been categorized cosmetic and excluded from coverage according to a report in the hartford current aetna's new policy states that the coverage must be deemed quote medically necessary. The insurance company stated that it will reimburse some women who met this criteria and were denied coverage in the past but had the surgery. Anyway aetna additives told the times that the company had already been reviewing its policies on the matter before this latest negotiation fewer than ten percent of insurance companies in the us typically cover transition related breast augmentation surgery the current reports and some larger carriers have exclusions in november the mother of an illinois teenagers sued blue cross blue shield of illinois for denying treatment for his gender dysphoric according to bloomberg law. The plaintiff maintains that such denial of coverage is a violation of the affordable. Care act which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in georgia at least two plaintiffs are suing anthem. Blue cross and blue shield in that state for similar exclusions. this may be another milestone. In a new era of recognizing the rights needs of the transgender community. The supreme court ruled last. June that workplace discrimination laws also protected lesbian gay transgender bisexual and queer people. Lgbtq people for short giving this group a big victory in workplace equality but in one of its last acts. The trump administration's department of health and human services finalized a rule permitting social service providers that receive government funds to discriminate on sexual orientation and gender identity. Nbc news reported the biden administration is seeking to reverse that rule so this settlement with aetna is another piece of good news for those seeking gender affirming surgeries and a chance to help trans women feel a little more comfortable in their own bodies

And it's interesting to hear how the progressive dealers have been all about. You know how do i. How do i modernize customer experience. And that seems to be where a lot of people were leading the conversation in their own organizations until covid. And then everybody's like oh wait this could be really great for productivity to hours talking hats. Never like that immediate hurt. You know that we're all responding to but it's that moment that's sort of what the omni channel steph. I think brings Beaches what we've what would they added. Hopefully i'm finally going to take a dive into these series. I picked up. Yee's eight for only twenty dollars on the ps story. I could not refuse as the physical version just refuses to ever go down in price so i figured this was by far the best opportunity. Get in on. What many consider to be a very very good. Jr pg and at some point. I'll be playing. It don't really know when that's going to be but that's enough rambling We did have fell. Calm day Twenty twenty winter addition and we got a few tidbits of information about the new legend of heroes. Toddle kiro no koseki if you notice the thumbnail for this Podcast are the two newest main characters is a third as well but these They dig use some high-rise resolution images of the to unsure why the third one was kind of like ashaari pow We'll get you later but still no names for these two characters but we do have a bit of information stuff. You see that image. There's a couple other on our facebook and twitter feed of those two characters while they are. I say have that trails feel to them. I do kind of agree with what president condo said last time that at mediate Glance they don't appear to be trails characters. And i believe that lies in the fact that they are from calvert So they're going to look a little bit different and we'll talk about that in just a little bit. These illustrations were drawn by katsumi. Nama and the other characters are from alcom. Like i said the character's names were not announced to this game is coming out sometime in twenty twenty one in japan so those were the images. There were some other ones as well. If you'd like to see all those. I did put up a slide show video on our youtube channel. So you can check those out if you don't feel like clicking through pictures of via the website here is what we do know and i will just read this to you as this is the about for the new age of heroes karoo new koseki beyond the blue sky ahead of flashing light a land. A dawning resides cuba. There's no spoilers going on in here. This is all preliminary stuff in the news story arc. So we don't have to worry about that type of stuff the ladder this latter half of the trails. There is about to begin. The setting moved to the calvert republic in two thousand and twenty one foul calm release. Legend heroes kernigan the latest entering the trail serious as its fortieth anniversary rumors of work. The calvert nation is a multi ethnic nation experiencing unprecedented economic growth. Brought about by post war reparations. In a corner of the capital of a huge nation were immigration issues bringing about political instability. Okay well maybe. There are some spoilers in here okay. let's just get to the best. I'm sorry i read that. And i didn't think about it until just now okay. The command style action time bow system. You didn't previous trails. Titles has been revamped and that's going to set up an from a couple people. Let's just see what they said. Seamlessly transitioned from action oriented field battles to turn based commands battle to turn based command battle systems while making use of the unique elements the sixth generation combat or meant would try to pronounce his last time. I'm not sure how it is x. I f. r. x. i. p. h. a. z. Feel in a ballots to evolve from the previous trails titles. Okay so what does that mean. I don't. I don't know i really don't know how to had say seamlessly transition from action oriented field battles to turn based command battle systems I i mean obviously there's a bit of an extra element when you strike the enemies on the field in order to go into the turn based battle i. I need to see this in action to really know what they're even beginning to talk about would just have to wait and see You will feature many elements you laws. It's setting including a topics system which enabled together until such topics by communicating with. Mpc's out towns tra- gate situations in your favor when you act as a spray gun and that is the The character it's basically a detective. But they're calling them spring and alignment flame system. In which characters three alignments great and chaotic fluctuate depending on your own style influencing various status allies and adversaries and even scenario developments please look forward to allege heroes lowest entrance toasters depicted enrich expression by thumbs new original ingen. So that's that's pretty cool Here's what how they set up the situation and I get. I don't wanna get too much into this. The to emit the two people that you see in the image the one is the one call the speaker those are they say sometimes detective somedays negotiators and other days as bounty hunters. They're up for any job from any client. That's pretty cool And then the other one is Say to be a school girl wearing uniform. Prestigious school visits a rundown building located in old town in cowards capital. So that's the setting that's beginning of it. You can check out those images. Like i said there's a third character in the images as well with the two swords on his back and some long hair but we don't have any details. There is a battle scene that shows what looks like to be a craft or an art powering up but that from that snippet it does look to be turn based. So don't i'm so confused as to what to make. But i'm certainly excited about this one. But the lack of details and the promise of something new is leading to some question marks popping up. And i don't necessarily love that idea but it is what it is and until we learn a little bit more. It's just going to be speculation Unfortunately though that wasn't the only bit of information. And i'm sure we'll have a bunch more but Foul calm day twenty twenty winter. Also let us know about and this is not really affecting us as much. But they did. Say that a hatch marco koseki which is the one before this one and after cold steel four Clouded leopard entertainment will release a switch. Pc esteemed version of the game Sometime in summer. Twenty twenty one in japan in asia. I'm nearly positive. That's the same company that handled The transition for coastal three and four to the top of my head. So i came out for. Ps four in japan on august twenty seventh. So you know nearly a year later. They're talking summer to get that Switch pc version now. It handles the asian side of this and i s america handles the translation available. At least they have for the past two games In the cold still series in the west still no confirmation that that translation is ongoing. That have to assume that it is unless it's being handled by other parties I mean exceed did do the first two trills of cold steel games but at imagine that they are going to do this hedge amari as well and as soon as i hear something about that it will happen. It's certainly a good thing that this is happening and It could lead to a speedier at least for these games in the west. But like i said still no information on unfortunately. The last thing that they talked about was not briefly. Mentioned this last time the natto. noca- seki game. That is coming out in japan for For playstation four. This was the old Two thousand twelve least. Psp action rpg though some new details and images kinda showing the ps p version versus the Ps four version of it They're sent opposites gonna run at sixty frames per second on. Ps four with more vibrant graphics. Not being obviously these are things that you'd want to have updated from an old old system user interface options One thing that i thought was very interesting. And i'm not to say what they say. This game is not connected to the trails game. However the main character's name is now utah herschel now you trails players especially cold. Steel will know towa. Her last name is hershal So what they're they say there's no connection but then there's a connection is the protagonist and a boy from that island who attends and academy in saint elise. Those aren't you know aren't names that i recognized the from the trails series so it is very very interesting and i would be would like to know what that connection is at kind of read through it. You can read through the tales. Like i said before i am lower on the percentage scale To say of this game was actually going to make it over here or not. I if i if you say your day is gonna come today out outs. Action say no but would just have to wait and see. The original game did not look super impressive. So this isn't a game that i'm all that excited about to begin with but we'll have to. We'll just have to wait and see if that indeed happens for a lot of switch owners the next. Gop g they will more than likely be picking up is going to be bravely default to gain closer and closer to that february twenty. Sixth rolled wide release date friend square annex released new trailer for it albeit in japanese and have still not seen an english version of this yet so it talks all well. Supposedly it talks about wiz walt. The country established by those mejia's. They did it themselves to studies. The magic research institute But the the real kicker with this one and you can see it. Is this places overgrown. It looks like it was built kind of in the middle of it are on top of a giant tree. And there's just this tree just going right up through entire town is really cool again Trailer is how long was trailer of about three and a half minutes. Like i said in japanese so you can't really tell what's going on but it is kind of cool to see some of the visuals in action Four it but if you're elected shake those game out for yourself you can check out the demo for it It is now live on the east shop and One who feels the demo before its release will even pick up one hundred mine. Intendo platinum points here is the Short official description of the demo experienced the games at risk and reward system character strategy and stunning visuals in the latest braley default to final demo in this demo. The games four men characters are already other journey with jobson abilities at their disposal. I downloaded this. The other night. as if getting the switch away from my kid was hard enough with minecraft previously The kid did pretty good for Christmas and her birthday. And i now had to contend with her own copy of animal crossing so she and my wife can play two switches and who copies of animal crossing so they can will each other's islands. I know she also got the Spyro trilogy which. I really enjoyed those games growing up. So i can't wait to play those with her and relive those moments and she picked up mario maker to so. I'm not seeing that switch for a while. Maybe once she goes to sleep. If i don't have anything to play eck fired that demo. I would like to see how it is shaping up as will If you've got some free time and you're looking for d'you monster hunter rise. There are to say ten videos in total. Let's do a little no here. One two three four seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. There's twelve total. So i check. They were they were released in two packs. I take them all and made them into six long. Because it only about a minute minute long. So if you're one to check out some of the different weapons they go into monster hunter rise. You can do that going from Things like the switch axe gun lance hammer sorted shield heavy light bogue gun. Land is long swords and even the hunting horn. It is coming out in japan on march. The eighteenth for playstation four and switch said. This is the second trailer for the game. It looks pretty cool. I do hope that they bring this one. Over is from publisher. D three Developer felicia quite heard of them before. But still no word on it. I really hope they bring this over because it does pretty fun but yeah nothing Nothing quite yet. i'll go over some of these ones. That are just videos. There's a fifteen minutes of new footage from christ tales. This is previewing the present and future game play of it Remember this game got pushed back to early. Twenty twenty one. That's just the winner that don't into it's been Hit with a couple delays here lately. Not sure how much. Everything's pandemic related at this point but how much they just wanna fine tune things in. How much is really needed to make this work. Obviously you're doing with a system of past present and future while stuff can go wrong and working Just the way that you would like it to work New genesis the fantasy star online. To almost say reboot but definitely the new version of there is the opening movie for it and you should probably check this out. If we're looking at over fifty minutes of new footage as well mostly the character creation for its but this opening movie You know typically when you see these opening movies. They're using a pre rendered scenes. This was actually created using parts of the in game graphics. Engine which looks amazing Definitely if you're looking forward to this you should check it out sometime in twenty twenty. One is the release date Four it but again. This is one of those. Well not one of those but this is the faa gain. That i'm kind of just don't understand why it's not on playstation four. In the west it is in japan. But you've got to either play on xbox or on pc here in the west doesn't make a ton of sense but there's just things like that in this world that we gotta kinda get used to them. I guess we got three bits of sky news this week. i is. You can check out the fourth official trailer for six defiance of destiny I believe there's an english. There's an english version for this out. Now you can check it out. There was originally came out. There was just a japanese version but the english version shows off of really cool voices that they've got for the game. They got some good voice. Talent in this one in Very fitting for the series especially the little reincarnated pug services is awesome It's about seven or review of the game If you are curious about what's going on in this one changes that they've made this series. You will definitely want to check it out. Of course it doesn't come out in the west until summer. Twenty twenty one. Japan is going to get it in right about a month on january. The twenty eighth The other day actually. This was on christmas eve that this news broke New punchy released some new information screenshots for the game featuring and i hope i get these names right la haro aetna and flown Those were the original characters from the original the sky and they are saying that Basically once you beat the game you can Play a scenario with these original characters in it so kind of a you know. They're not in the main game this something post post content but the fact that they're in their would open the door to other characters popping up from other games as well. So that's a cool thing The world inside of an item. I m worlds have mended. Detailed in this article on worlds are divided into several fours slash layers and the items level increases with every four. That you clear says weapons become stronger as they level up. You can clear there either. Worlds to power them up once. An item is leveled up. You can get the same item at the same level from then on pretty cool feature of the sky series all these images i took input into a slide show. You can check that out on our youtube channel so you can dispatch companions into item worlds to research them. There's a new team attack system with up to ten characters in it. That's a pretty cool feature. New enemies were detailed There's a new horsemen. That's pretty crazy. So here's the Previous protagonist Oh here we go says not only will hear from. Our doctors appear the protagonist in heroines of the sky. Two three four and five will also appear in three d. The protagonist and heroines wilburs as downloadable content sometime after the launch of disguise six. So there's a from the sky to or i don't know in timika these pronunciations. I'm at risk of offending people. I understand how they're supposed to be pronounced So yeah they're gonna add them in there as as post content deal see. That's the type of thing. Like i would think you'd be okay with paying for because that's obviously not a part of disguise six. They are previous games characters in new content. So take how you feel about. Dlc that is that's one thing i think is is no k To do speaking of all those previous disguised characters they are all assembled in the rpg. Mobile game And we got news from bolt chain games that they will release worldwide the mobile version the sky arc in spring. Twenty twenty one Unless you're in these countries in the no fast if you are but we are a western primarily focused podcasts. Brazil australia and the philippines sometime in january so really happy to see this thing go worldwide. There was a global announced trailer for it This came back It came back in march of twenty nineteen in japan. Two thousand flamingos & a war-torn island: controversy over Australian mine proposal

"Human rights activists shrine siro is talking about the twenty six year civil war between tamils and sinhalese buddhists. The war ended in two thousand and nine but sri lankans a still dealing with deep scars and in the aftermath. Many trying to rebuild their lives on mannar island which is a unique place for another important raisin who needs a unique place in the biodiversity point of view this fun of the key bethlen ecosystems in the central asian flyway evolutionary ecologist and ornithologist. Trials show Oxford's COVID vaccine works well in older adults

"The coronavirus vaccine that's being developed by the university of oxford and astra zeneca was found to be safe and that triggers an immune response among all adults that's according to preliminary findings of peer reviewed phase two trial phase. Three trials are already underway. Matt news comes just a day. After the united states reached a total of two hundred and fifty thousand covid. Nineteen deaths joining us right now. Is marta leany. He's former aetna chairman and ceo an markets. Great to see you. It's been a while since we've talked to you but obviously the events that we've seen now you have an understanding of how things play out of developing those vaccines has been the really hard work but the next step isn't going to be all that easy either. We need to figure out how to safely. And effectively distribute the vaccine to millions of americans. And i know. Cvs is going to be playing a role with that. Aetna is going to play a role with that. Where where do you think we stand. What are the challenges that we face. And how do you think this will play out to see becky. Joe raw andrew. I think the real issue here is vaccines great. More the more than area. I think we need more innovation And it's been amazing but the pharmaceutical companies able to do but it's one part of an arsenal they're really goes back to a broader and democ mc framework. Where we i have to. I'd early identifies so get back into the wall. World health organization get get active there again. Secondly have the diagnostic antibody testing strategy the population. So whose immune we also know who we need to protect so that we can keep working while we protect americans that are at risk and then is the vaccines come along. You need to have the ability to track and trace diagnostics. Antibodies and the vaccine is because we don't know yet in any of these vaccines along the media's and when that immunity wears off you need to understand when it happens. What kind of booster shot. The people need a man. How do we keep that going over arm. So the amount the enormity of the data and the framework around doing that is going to be really important to build. We don't have that yet in large part because we don't have a national plan. There's a lot of things that we can kind of jump into their. I want to start with one thing. You said that we need to figure out who is going to be most affected by this. I mean i think that's part of the question. We know the demographic split that older people happen to be in worse shape with this that people with co morbidity have a worse time with this but are we any closer to being able to figure out why some people are so greatly impacted even if they don't have co morbidity even if they're younger while others seem to do just fine with it. I think we're learning more everyday day. Becky i'm i we'll continue to learn. It's gonna take a while you get a real deep understanding of this disease and of the vaccine impact. But i think it's important that is as long as we have a national framework around this. You begin to approach all the public health issues but even more importantly the capacity models we need to understand. Mpp e hospital beds skill sets and in ventilators and other things that along have a buffer economy. So we're not doing just in time. Responses depend as emerged. This is not spend Will have more mark. Were pretty long in the tooth in this pandemic at least feels like if you're sitting at home. Why do you think we don't have a better plan at this point at least for the testing and at least for contact tracing. We don't have a framework to do nationally across the board. We could be learning so much every part of the country if we had a way of aggregating the information or understanding. And who's sick why they're sick. What kind of. Antibodies are we seeing out there can be used for their units and as the vaccines developed our these vaccines working which ones are best for which population that requires a national database. A national way of looking at this information and we've decided to allocate up to the states. I think that's wrong headed.

Changing the Healthcare Space with Voice Technology with Dan Messina Co-Founder & EVP of HandsFree Health

"Now Dan. You've been in healthcare for over thirty five years. You've been the CEO of Magellan. House the CFO AETNA HOUSE. And you served as a partner of health advocate which showed for nearly ten one hundred times. Excuse me of the outside capital invested. And I'm curious. Why did you begin a journey into healthcare so many years ago and then why in the last few years did you decide that the next right move was to found lead a voice based healthcare company? A great question. I mean I think that I wish I had some really glorious story to tell you but the fact that matter results in the right place at the right time I had been with AETNA and Cigna in the late eighties early nineties and during that timeframe there was a big transition from multi line insurance coverage to healthcare and healthcare began to grow rapidly and I was right in the middle of that so gaming opportunity to be part of the process of transitioning CIGNA and Aetna from their multi line offerings to just healthcare and you know put me in a healthcare world. Which was you know? Maybe a lot of sense balance sheet perspective but I don't think necessarily it was beneficial for the end users perspective and all these companies grew rapidly and You know worked for them but I think the members found themselves facing a lot of difficulties in trying to figure out the healthcare process. That's what led to help advocate about twenty years ago me and others from the large health plan companies realize that the to get through the healthcare process was nothing easy and we thought whom better to help them figure out their way through the maze that people to help contribute to the maze and so we started health advocate opposite. Frankly couldn't believe how successful that company became basis form. It was simply a company that was providing any response and you healthcare question. Any individual may have nobody that twenty year span at grew from two forty four million members with over a thousand employees and yes we were able to sell it for about one hundred times. The invested capital was which was obviously very impressive. That then let me two hands. Free health with my colonel the other CO founder of the company hands. Free Health is really in some respects like health advocate where it's responsive to questions that people may have but it does in a voice recognition fashion voice responses service. We think that voice response is a direction that the whole country's going and healthcare is kind of catching up but getting there right now and of course. Healthcare has unique difficulties voice response because of the terminology and being able to convert that terminology voice. You Know Bill Gates. I think twenty years ago the healthcare the content is key and I agree with that and and Between the content and the voice. There's no simple task and I think that's one reason. Healthcare is behind. But if you look at all the stats. Everyone's growing dramatically voice annoys people are increasing utilization voice so it makes sense to have health be part of the growth model and that's where hands free health does come into

The Pharmacist Is Out: Supermarkets Close Pharmacy Counters

"To be easy enough to pick up medication and prescriptions at the pharmacy inside the grocery store but more grocery chains or closing their pharmacy counters as they lose the battle would large drugstore chains in Wall Street Journal. Reporter Sharon trollip is here with some details so Sharon for a longtime grocers saw in-house pharmacies as a way to bring in shoppers. Not only did they bring in chapters. Were relatively easy to start up. There was low capital cost. Aw there you know didn't require a lot of employees so they were a really good way to bring in shoppers and generate some more revenue. But then the big boys in the form of the big drugstore chains came to Yes and that changed everything not only did they have new competitors as these big chains. And we're talking about. CVS AND WALGREENS bought up smaller chains They became bigger. They get more market power and then. CVS in particular started buying other pieces of the healthcare industry. CVS Now owns at the insurer. Aetna it has its own pharmacy benefit manager which is a company that negotiates prices so these big chains have a lot of power now and so these individual drugstores is part of the larger chains have really become one stop pharmacy shopping places for for consumers lately particularly in the last year or so both CVs and Walgreens have been working to make their drugstores a one stop shop for patients really and particularly patients who have chronic diseases. So not only. Can you get your drugs and get a blood pressure test. Plus you might. If you're diabetic you might be able to get your annual tests. You can get advice from you at clinics where you can get medical advice diagnostics. And and they're only this is only begotten services are expanding but it's also a sign of consumers changing shopping habits as well consumers are getting more and more of their goods online grocery is one of the last things to to shift to online but it is shifting to online and also consumers are getting their prescriptions more and more in ninety day chunks. So they just aren't going to physically pick them up as much but grocery chains like Kroger have fared a little better than some other regional grocery grocery companies. Sure because a lot of this is really about market power so kroger is the biggest grosser in the country and it's one of the biggest pharmacy chains So one of the things that happens with the bigger change. CVS walgreens even Kroger. They can negotiate deals to be preferred providers and they they can shut out an entire regional grocery chain in this type of deal. Kroger has a little bit more half's than a regional chain with thirty stores you know. There's a really tough balance Alan's here because consumers want very intimate service. They want that mom and pop feel and they had that in the smaller drugstores but then we just talked. What about the changing shopping habits and something has to give? Yeah and I think this is an area where grocery chains in particular are disadvantaged even two independent it. mom-and-pop drugstores now these independent stores have been closing in legions as well. But you'll find a lot of loyalty to the hundred year old chain on on main street whereas you know these grocery chains follow a little bit in the middle ground. I mean there are a little more personal a little home but a lot of people just aren't really that attached. It's to the grocery store pharmacy. Alright that's Wall Street Journal reporter Sharon Turnip with US Sharon. Thanks for coming on the

CVS CEO Larry Merlo: We are a health-care company today

"CVS Health the drugstore. Giant is one year into its merger with Aetna creating a one hundred ninety five billion dollar healthcare company. That's the eighth largest in the fortune. Five hundred although it runs more than nine thousand stores the new CVS CVS health is no longer just retail. It's also a pharmacy benefits manager. One of the nation's largest insurers and runs a burgeoning chain of healthcare clinics and as is so often the case with the big companies. CBS has held talks with an activist. Investor starboard value has taken a stake in the company. We'll talk about all that. Here's Larry Merlo and yes he started as is a pharmacist. CEO OF CVS health. Larry it's great to see you right to be here becky. So where are you just over a year end you know what has been a terrific year. The Integration Gratien of the two companies has gone very. Well I in many respects. Were ahead of schedule. On many of the integration activities and as a result the synergy dollars associated associated with integration is ahead of plan and at the same time we begun. The transformation journey were bringing innovative products and services to market The most visible side of that the health clubs They've gotten off to a great start in Houston and we've laid a solid foundation for growth in in the years to come in The credit for this goes to our three three hundred thousand colleagues. They're absolutely committed to our vision or strategy and they're working hard to bring it to life. Where are you ahead of expectations? In terms of in terms of the combination factors factors into what the there were many many synergy activities in terms of combining the companies as it relates to the back office pharmacy programs and priorities. And those are the things that have garnered A lot of momentum and ahead of ahead of plan there and again. We're excited with With what's happening with the health clubs and in some of the other products that That we have in pilot and In the response we're getting from our customers. The stock over the course of the year has is not performed strongly but you have picked up pretty sharply over the last nine months and if we compared to what's been happening with walgreens shares. It's a much different story. They've been under quite a bit of pressure as there's been concerns concerns about what's happening in the pharmacy so it does look from that relative perspective like you guys made the right move by pivoting. What have you heard from starboard when they came in what? What are the conversations that they've started? Well Becky I'm not gonNA comment on market speculation. What I will say is we have a regular dialogue with our investors? We certainly appreciate Their their input and You know in their feedback and look I think. Investors see the momentum in the business. We've had three consecutive quarters where we've where we beat expectations and they're seeing tangible signs of our vision coming to life with things like the health ups and you know we had an investor. Yesterday in early June we laid out our strategy and more important the path forward over the next three years and the stock spin up about forty percent since that meeting. Larry when I I look at your stock your trading more with the AETNA purchase your trading more like a united healthcare trading as as opposed to a drugstore company. How should investors at home think about your company and how to value well Tom? We are a healthcare company. Today that journey began many years ago and we celebrated five years. Here's this past September of eliminating the sale of tobacco. was there with you. I was on the Stock Exchange for third. We rang the bell. It was it was a great day and at a day day that made us all proud was fun and we look back. You know five years ago. It was absolutely the right decision. It's open doors for partnership for acquisitions. Obviously Asleep the pinnacle of that is the acquisition and We are healthcare company today and and we have an opportunity putting the consumer at the center of our strategy you to transform the way healthcare is delivered in our country of of CVS moved very quickly in terms of saying they weren't going to sell tobacco. I remember at the time that was a little bit of a controversial move although so it has seemed to pay dividends for. Cvs what do you think about. What's happening with vaping right now becky? It's a great question and I can remember the question we got back then was well. Will you carry the e cigarettes and yeah I remember going into A A retail establishment that was selling the products and and I saw the device vice with the Hello Kitty logo in the bubble gum flavored liquid. And you know it it absolutely raise the question in terms of we'll wait a minute. What are we doing here and five years later we see what has happened? post the tobacco announcement. We started a campaign. We are working with community partners. Be the first create the first tobacco free generation. We've made a lot of progress. We have more than two hundred college and university campuses that are tobacco free today as a result of that program. But you vaping is taking us backwards you see some of the statistics vaping up more than seventy percent with school aged children and I saw some stats recently. That more within seventy percent of high school students that are vaping will turn to tobacco upon graduation. So we've got a reverse try

Welcome to brain stuff. A production of iheartradio. Hey, brain stuff. Lauren Vogel bomb here. Some animals have a reputation that's hard to shake take a camel spider. Many Americans are familiar with them based on photos that came out of the Iraq war in the early two thousands a giant, desert spider, with a leg span somewhere between the size of a pack of cigarettes and a full grown man's calf though. The latter one turned out to be a trick of forced perspective. There were rulers, they enter the desert screaming and jumping on camels they would hide an ambush in sleeping bags ready to inject you with venom, but US military personnel are not the first to tell stories about the camel spider in South Africa. There's sometimes called beard-trimmers, because some people believe that if you sleep on the ground camel, spiders, will come trim your hair in your sleep and use it to line, their nests in parts of North Africa. And the Middle East legend has it that they choose the bellies of camels until their intestines fallout. So they can eat them or that they can lay their eggs in their stomachs. None of this is true, of course, for starters, camel, spiders, are not spiders at all. All but solid few goods, these arachnids live on every continent, except in article, and ustralia and all one thousand one hundred and fifty species have eight legs and two body sections, like spiders, scorpions ticks, and mites, but they're different enough to belong to their own order. Secondly, they are aggressive, but they're also none venomous, and the large jaws of most species can't even breakthrough human skin much less camels belly the largest camel, spider has a leg span of around six to eight inches. That's fifteen to twenty centimeters, which is bid for a spider, but it's not horror movie territory. And they seem to take little to no observable interest in human hair. We spoke with Christy Rettig, founder of the bug chicks educational company that uses arthropods to teach young people about social issues like prejudice racism, educational, potential and personal development. She said that thing about sell a few goods is you don't really need to make stuff up about them for them to be fascinating. I was in Kenya. When I first saw one and I went to catch it and it ran up the side of the wall. Right up to my I height it. Reared. Back in rubbed its jaws together to strangulate. Some people say they scream, but it's more of a hissing rasping noise, it had such an attitude. I just fell in love. It would seem difficult to fall in love with an Iraq did with these stage presence of a pro wrestler, and the body of an animal who's parts were scavenged from the invertebrate salvage yard but such is the allure of the camel spider Radic said if you do a rapid count of what appears to be legs. They look like they have ten legs. But their first pair actually mouth parts called pep helps I kind of think of them as mouth hands, they helped facilitate bringing prey into their big jaws when they run they use them, kind of, like antenna or long legs in the front. They also have mouth clause called Chelsea's which are used for a dizzying variety of purposes, one of which seems to be transferring packets of sperm, for male to female camel, spiders, most sell a few gets are nocturnal extremely territorial and top predators in arid ecosystems. They eat other predators in the same size range, as them or a bit larger. But even eat each other, they don't have venom. It's unnecessary because their jaws are so powerful. They can manipulate their food through their mouths by sawing their prey back and forth like an old timey cartoon character eating a cob of corn. Solid few goods are also wildly fast able to reach speeds of about ten miles per hour that's sixteen kilometers per hour and seemed to be able to run for as long as you care to chase them. But with that comes metabolism that requires nearly constant fuelling. So they eat a lot, but that doesn't necessarily explain ones. L A few good behavior mass aunt assassinations for some reason, camel, spiders, will sometimes go after an ants, nest just tearing answered half left and right until they're surrounded by an enormous heap of rented, aunt carcasses some scientists think maybe they're killing ants to save them as a stack for later. But read it published a paper in two thousand fourteen about the diet of solid few goods, and she and her co author found that they don't, particularly, like eating ants another explanation for this behavior. Could be that there. Trying to clear out the ant nest in order to find a nice place to escape the desert sun. But it's really a mystery as to why they do this Rettig pointed out that another possibility though. Is that camel spiders attack Aetna's to get the larva and pupa inside? She explained these don't bite and are super soft squishy little protein and fat bombs. But you can add the mass murder of ants to the long list of things. Scientists don't understand about solid fuel goods. But remember, even though they act wild they can't hurt you Radic said just because something is a predator or even defensive or aggressive. It doesn't make it a bad or mean animal cell. A few kids have so much, great attitude, and they're soft and fuzzy when you pet one, it's like, petting a little mouse. A little demon mouse. "Symbolizes is a movement to stability. So sixty six million people separated from job last year, for example, those people lost their insurance they wanted to or not right if they split off from their employment sponsored plan, and that's just going to keep happening. If we have these employment employer's, sponsored a private insurance plans dominating the healthcare market, and there's a way we can fix that. And that is to take this extractive industry, which I think a lot of people can fleet with their providers. So I think many people when they hear my my health care plan. They think not only Aetna. But my doctor and the response here is right Aetna's and extractive layer. That's just pulling money out of the system acting as a middleman between you and your doctor will we're going to do is take that unstable component away. Create a completely stable components. So that if you switch jobs leave job loser. You still have your doctor forever permanently? There's no point at which your kids are gonna phase out or age out. We're going to stabilize this part of your light. I think that's the message. Let's take a break when we come back. This is what truly creative people have in common

"I'm always fascinated by creative souls. You know, I I think that there's something very special about creative people. And I guess Allen Canada's too because he's the founder and CEO of track. Maven a software analytics firm whose clients have included Microsoft Mary at Saks Fifth Avenue. Home depot. Aetna, Honda and on and on. He's also been on the thirty under thirty list for both Incan Forbes and his new book is out. It's called the creative curve and Allen had the opportunity to look at some of the most creative people that we know in our in our culture right now to find out what makes them tick. And it includes interviews with so many in Alan, welcome. Congratulations on this book. Thanks for having me. So how many people did you interview for this book? So here you twenty five people and everyone from Patrick and Paul songwriting duo behind. Do you have an ad LaLa land and the greatest showman. Two Michelin star chefs billionaire sort of everything you could imagine in between. Wow. What was there a thread that every single one of them had? And by the way, don't forget the flavor team at Ben and Jerry's. Who are all surprisingly skinny that's kind of shocking. Joe one of the thread thought was so interesting was that we think of creativity in this way where it's almost inaccessible. But the things that these people do to be extraordinary is really the ordinary people who do something extra book. It's all about that extra. What is it that they do there's a couple of keeping found one of them? But it's all over and over again, creative are also some of the biggest consumers of their field. You know, we think about consumption is almost. Creativity right consumers consume craters create. But actually, he's really great creative. One of the things they do go very deep in their vertical consume everything. Oh, I lost. You did. We lose him. Just my feet. He's not talking though. Right allen. Are you there? We have to get him back. Hopefully, we can get Alan back. He was saying consumption. So he explores how the science behind the why consumption of information can provide your own flashes of genius. And then imitation. This is an interesting one. I wish you were with us to talk a little bit about this. But imitation creatives have to find a way to add just the perfect amount of novelty to do this. They engage in something that may seem surprising surprising invitation. He said they also have creative communities and Alan shows. How building a community? Oh, alan. I'm just reading some of the different initiatives that the threads of imitation creative communities. Yeah. To what are the things? That's so interesting is that. Yeah. You think of creative of these solo geniuses, but actually the best creatives work within community, Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniak had multiple employees from day one. And so we have that they'd be as creative as doing it all them cells dangerous because the best creative self aware about their weaknesses, and they go, and they find other people who can support the better. So alan. You you say in this in this new book of yours sat. These are. So there's a sense of community. There's an opportunity to see what's been successful for mothers by imitation. Their ferocious can can they are ferocious with your consumption. What's the what's the last piece that you? That. They don't understand that. They're not. They're not going to a writer's cabin and writing the book. You hear stories like that? But the vast majority of creatives go through this laborious process, if it's a book of its rewriting the song, it's constantly refining and refining chefs who were on menu stand up comedian to work out their jokes for months and months. So we have this idea is creativity at very linear better reality, create anything. But in the best creativity comes from that refinement, and from that editing getting it to beat at right idea at the right time for the audience by getting in front of people getting that feedback not creating within evacuate.
