"And he's taken the photo of put it up there to the land star all these galaxies. And he mentioned that he says, you know, how does how does that happen? Right. Luck luck. When something turns out, you say, gee, I'm lucky that was the character. The character says that and I was like Albert bitter Ling is his name. I never had picked that up before. Like, we're this is going the flow of right? The film at this point in time. Right that. You know, I felt like how did I miss that? All these years because we've recited these recited every line. Yeah. Yeah. You know? But and then it goes right into that. The luck with religion toward the end of that. Right. So the very first thing you hear is that character Albert piddling say you mean, this is the real world. I never thought of that. And that's like it. I think it was Morris called him his cartesian philosopher in the swamp. And he said that he starts the movie with voice over line. That's still one of my favorites in all of film. And that's Earl Morris talking about bitterly words there. Well, and we have laughed. I mean, he's tied for first among three characters this movie as my favorite. But I'd never like I said, we should laugh about it. So I never realized that this guy is he's always philosophizing, and he's usually saying something kind of profound in beautiful. Yes. But it's all you see is like this dumb redneck. Right. But that's not true. Not true. There's a lot more going on there. The world's about the world's when he's talking about that the luck luck luck. When you see it turns out, you say what was that? Gee, I'm lucky he says, what would everyone of these stars is a different world, right? Right. The feld stone or conversation. Yeah. Yeah. Man. Yeah. I mean, he used the line still, you know, when he's looking out over the river about, you know, look at all that water. That's just the top of it. Like, I've dropped that line on a drop that line on a on a cruise ship. One time at night the bunch of people on the top deck looking out the ocean. Someone's like look at all that water. It's like, yeah. That's just the top of it. And everyone was like, whoa. This guy. Albert, bitter Ling, and you know, this is a movie that has been retro actively derided in some circles is like kind of patronizing in a lot of the people in Vernon like came down here made fun of us. But I I don't see it that way. In aero Morris said this an interview he said, they're all pretty wonderful and have great affection for them. I haven't heard from the long time. So if you write something he's talking to the article guy, the author he said, if you write something please tell everyone in Vernon I said, Hello. Any also tweeted recently like a year ago about bitter Ling, he said, our bitterly one of my favorite characters in Vernon Easter tell me, you know, arrow, you don't break the rules the rules break you. But it is that sort of redneck philosophy that says kind of basic, but also deepened some ways. Well, it's it's it's very Florida too. And I can say that because my family is all from a small town in Florida. Really? Yes. From zephyr hills. Where's that zephyr hills? Just north of Tampa. Okay. So people know of for hills now because of zephyr hill spring water..

"Dock NYC programming team together we watched over a thousand documentary submissions to pick our lineup. My first guest is Rafael in a in. She is the executive director of doc NYC an Oscar nominated producer, the executive producer of this podcast and my wife. Welcome rafaela. Thank you, Tom for having me. So let's jump in starting with our opening night film. It's called the biggest little farm. You've just watched it last. Night. Tell me what your impressions are. Well, you know in past years, we've opened with films by documentary icons, like Furner Herzog and aero Morris and Barbara Coppel and this year, we went in another direction with a new filmmaker. And having watched the film, I fully understand why I was completely charmed and moved and taken on this journey that I cannot wait for New York audiences to experience. So the biggest little farm is directed by John Chester in the film. He and his wife Molly decides to give up their careers in Los Angeles. He was an environmental filmmaker she was food blogger and start a farm. The are starting family farm, but they want to run it in biodynamic way, not with monocrop 's not with kind of factory farming methods, and we watch them over eight years. Certainly John Chester puts his skills. Wildlife photographer to great use to this film. There's all kinds of really beautiful observations. Yeah. And I wanted to add to that it has the drama of thriller as you watched them battle, whether it's snails or slugs or coyotes, you get completely invested in these animal relationships like the one between their pig Emma and rooster called Mr. greasy every step of this film. Literally has you on the edge of your seat as you watch and really root for this couple to make it on their farm. So let's share clip John. And Molly when they were starting their farm hired a consultant named Alan York. And here's John and Molly describing their first encounter with this consultant. She was like, hey, John this guy named Alan York is coming today to give us some advice. Are there questions? He's like this world renowned.

"To to acquire sports memorabilia simple questions like who would pay eight thousand dollars for Thai cobs dentures. When I bought the my oldest son, Brian, he said Ma, everybody's talking about people could have could have a car for what you paid for those teeth. They think you're crazy all the items in the action that action took almost twenty two million, but the dentures got more press than any of there was fifteen hundred item. So that made me happy. Somebody comes over if they know I'm collector, would you buy now I'd say, look at these teeth. So you know, you always have a great conversation piece. That's why I went after them. I just got lucky. But I mean, I, it's changed my life. I was just a nobody. There's the story of a man whose life was dedicated. To being mister met the guy with the giant baseball head who dances around at Mets gains in New York and to his downfall. Yes, he had a downfall. There's one about an elaborate heist, a guy who risked his life to steal a giant Michael Jordan jersey, and weirdly, maybe the most powerful of all of them is also the most modest. It's called the subterranean stadium. It's about a man, a grown man well into middle age who runs a table top football league table, top football that game from the sixties with a little magnetic guys wobble on a shaky metal field. If you're a football. You have somebody sit down with you who knows how to play this game, teaches you how to play it correctly. With the right equipment and rules, you'll become addicted. You'll love it. The game with moving parts like this, where there's actually action figures and you control the action, you're the coach, makes it. Some of them moving chess only have more fun moving chess, you make the wrong move. Your cooked. In some ways, this guy is the least ambitious of the subjects. He's not rich. He doesn't have to scam his way onto the field at the Super Bowl or free climbed through the ceiling of a basketball arena. He just paints the new logo onto football. Figurines brings a few friends into his basement on the weekend, keep stats, but he is inflamed by a sincere and dedicated passion, his friends go along with it because they love him. They buy into the madness. What keeps us going here after year after John. Nothing makes him happier than to see us down there. Heaven, good time. Arguing with each other. A play this forever. It's one of the beauties of this game is we can be old and decrepit and still play wines. I get up and go down them fellers stairs. Yeah, I'll be planned to jam play. And from what you say, you'll be some theory, all spirit above who knows who knows what the future holds. That'd be ready. Because the truth is that sports don't matter. Ask the twenty five public radio listeners writing me letters right now, sports is absurd like fundamentally absurd. Jerry Seinfeld once said, I think he's very insightful that we're basically rooting for laundry, but that passion that sports. Incites, it does matter, especially when we share it, acknowledging its absurdity reduces none of its power. Of course, it's ridiculous for this man to spend his nights changing the uniforms on little plastic men with a single hair paintbrush. Of course, his invented pageantry in a basement in the mid west is absurd. But his hand is guided by sincere feeling and desire to share it with the world or at least connect with a few other people. And this is where aero Morris is great gift shows it self. He points the camera at that feeling at that passion. And then he listens when it speaks. That's my outshot. That's it. For this week's bullseye bullseye is recorded at maximum fun dot org world headquarters. I want as alien banks to keep rolling out these receipts. Let's hear like just and then did you notice the next day the New York Times posted an entire huge long story about how Elon Musk is like sad and his life is like sad. Did you see that they had the push alert? Yeah. So just saying pay act. Damage control. He's actively fighting. He's actively trying to clean up his image because of Zelaya banks. Did you think that was gonna happen in two thousand nine? Didn't. Once again, do not let banks into your house unless you are willing to have your entire life turned upside down yet. Don't moving on worth it. Speaking of entire lives. Being turned upside down. My life has been turned upside down because it looks like Ben Affleck is no longer with the shook us.
