"That headed up the bookstore at the time Jennifer cast turned to me and said. Wow this is going to be amazing if you have children. She has to choose twin boys and She was the first person I told at work. I turned said John. I'm pregnant and it just came out. I think I was about ten weeks pregnant and I actually found out the gender of my son that same day at the store so I feel like that store is really special to me And I named my son Max after a book where the wild things are too do but I took the pre pardom leave both times I am on the older side to have babies and it was. I definitely had challenging pregnancy. Yeah I was tired I didn't feel a sharp as I normally do at work which was really hard. And it's just it's a lot to be pregnant. I think and like visually. You're you're like it's out there and so I took the month off before both my kids and that was really like it is to me. The most generous part of our leave and both times like my health health totally stabilized. I had both my boys eleven days released so it was great. Actually have the time off and I was prepared and not like in a meeting and then not at work the next day a which it would have been had? I worked up until my date and with my first son. I took five months off. I didn't extra month of personal time so I was gone for six months total and I came back and it. Let's challenging because I wasn't sleeping that well But people were really understanding. And I've sort of made a choice as a female leader to be pretty upfront and honest about when I have to do things with my kids and when I'm balancing thing so I've gotten advice from coaches to say just like I have an appointment this morning but I like to say I'm taking my Sunjay twelve month. Check out this morning because I want people to know that there are other aspects of my life other than coming to work and we're all balancing. It doesn't matter if you have a sick cat or you know a leak in your house like we all have things we take care of and the truth is our jobs are not nine to five and I think some people that Amazon have jobs that are very set hours but mine are not and so if I need to take my kids to the doctor and then that means I make up that time sometime else. Then that's okay and it's okay for me for my teams do that too. I I just want people to know like die of other things going on besides work and I think that that makes me a better employee to read her. Jeff speak about not Speaking against the idea of balancing work with with personal life but if you are motivated and engaged in in both the balance sort of comes without it being zero-some game but a version of that insight perhaps as part of Amazon's culture. It's it's funny I was on maternity leave. For last New Year's my son was born last November second son and I decided to create a word for the year and my word was balanced. So it's sort of funny. I think it's a little counter. What Jeff said but I think the spirit is the same? It's just that I need to be mindful of that word because there have been times and and definitely before I had kids where work was one hundred percent of what I was doing and I realized that I'm just a better person all around if I'm balanced and that means that I'm not I mean I am the mother one hundred percent of the time but I also take time for myself exercise really important to me I read from my job and also just to keep myself sane and that all goes into being a whole person I think and showing up at work and having energy and being creative. That's cool. Well let's turn to the best books. Twenty one thousand nine hundred yes. This is good because now now we have some sense of the rest of your life within which you read all these books in but it did as you step back from did you tweak the process at all as you came into this in terms of just how to handle all of these potentially great great books in getting your team to do the work not a ton I feel like. I don't know when coming into a new team and I'm still relatively relatively new to this side of the team. I feel like there's the the do no harm mentality and this team has been. I mean they kill it at best books every year so I came in and I was an observer into this process I also think it was hard because I came halfway through the year not having read a lot of the books that came out in the first half of the year or not having read them in the same way that I what have so I did a lot more catch up at the end of the year and certain books. I just feel like I missed so I was around the time that we announced best books of the year. So far are I was reading a book still and then I felt like I had more of a handle on books that were coming in the second half of the year. Would you have in. Mind when you're you're making the list of the best books I mean. Who is it for? What's the vision that you start out with when you assemble this list? We Really. I WANNA choose books that we feel like customers will love or in a non pushy way should love so it's not necessarily about books that are bestsellers and how often are books. It's great if they're bestsellers but sometimes they're not and we're reading books for our best of the month last about three months out or even more so you know. Sometimes they do have pre orders but for a debut novelist. It's really hard to get pre orders at that point so we're not looking at sales numbers and saying like Oh this is going to be a big one. We should pick this. It's really based on our taste and I think it's really cool. That at a company like Amazon that relies on things like machine learning. We have this team of people. We have different kinds of expertise. Someone one is an author. Someone was an editor. Someone was book buyer. I was a publicist world. Book lovers someone was a bookseller and a brick and mortar store. And we're while reading. And we all have specialties. And then we're basically curing less the books that we think customers will love in the same way that when you walk into a bookstore. You're seeing staff picks like these. There are staff. Picks essentially sort of the company's staff picks right what you've got the top twenty and then there there's categories you do you know roughly how many books in total appear in these lists and the categories that you chose so I didn't do the full-count but we have a top one hundred of books of the year so they are ranked one to one hundred and We actually bucket out usually by groups of twenty. So we'll be. We look at our best of the month less. We look at any books that we feel like we missed and we have a huge spreadsheet and then we go through literally every title and we talk about is is this a one through twenty and then from there we narrow down to one through five and like one two three is really the hardest and then from there. It's twenty to forty forty forty to sixty and we go up from there and then we're looking within those groups of twenty in sort of tweaking things and rearranging them so chop one hundred and then we have top twenty less and then a bunch of different categories so everything from mysteries and thrillers to Literary Fiction Two Different Ages for kids so we have overall kids kids. We have kids zero two to three to five on up through a So there are a lot of books that were. We're looking at incorporating their's a little something for everyone. It looked like there are some of the books in the top. One hundred who are also showing up in the categories but that's right other books in the categories that are not in the top up one hundred there are Definitely because it's not like we take the top one hundred and then split them out into categories so One of the good examples of that is and cookbooks. Books Food and wine so often. We don't see those in the top one hundred and so the top cookbook of the year as a book called South by Sean Brock He is a really kind of exciting new chef. I think his restaurants in Charleston and so that's our top Kobuk of the year but it's not on our one to one hundred list when you get down to those top three. The testaments by Margaret Atwood Nickel boys by Colson Whitehead and Wild Game My mother her lover and me by Adrian. Broder you spend five hours thrashing out which is one two and three get heated. What would that finally? It is. Heated I've heard someone on the team. Say we decide the top one hundred by fighting and or by arguing. Sorry and it's true. I mean I think I don't know for me the testaments this was a clear choice for number one. I mean I feel like it's a publishing moment and this is a bold statement but I'll say it anyway. I'm not even sure. The testaments was my favorite novel of the year ear. But to me it is the best book of their It just it's such a moment in publishing and the fact that Margaret Atwood who such a storied author turn back to this book thirty five years after she published it. And just a what's happened in our world since then and be what's happened to the handmaid's tale and how it's been reintroduced audiences through the Hulu is really remarkable. And then I love it when a book has turned into a TV show or movie and new readers are brought to it and then and to have a sequel like this is just so exciting the sequel. I haven't read the book. I I did see the series current with it does the testaments project a series of the future or is it a prequel was it said in the story that we know so far I will say I haven't watched the series. Interestingly enough the I think the new seasons have come out right around when I've had my kids and people have set. Don't watch it when you have kids so I have not seen it but I I read the handmaid's tale when I was younger and then I reread it right before I read the testaments. which if you have time to do I recommend doing and it picks up about thirteen years after the handmaid's tale ends and there are new characters and returning characters And I think it definitely. I know people that have not read the handmaid's tale that have read the second book but I would say just to have a complete picture picture. reassembles together what can you tell us about the nickel poised. It's definitely an. It's a challenging book to read. It's a novel by Colson. Whitehead and it's about a at. This point is a fictional reform school in Florida. But it's actually based on a real reform school that was was In the time period is during the Jim Crow Era South And these two boys meet their to African American boys and they're pretty different but they form the unlikely friendship and it's it's told in different time periods so both in the past before the boys enter the reform school while they're out the school and then in current day basically and I. It's a challenging book. You really. It's hard to believe that this sort of school existed But it did and I think it's important people to read that and sometimes reading makes us face things that we might not want to hear otherwise but that's one of the important things about it and it's beautifully written. It's a fairly slim book. It's very restrained. And he's just a really amazing writer and while game. Have you read this yet. No you have to read it actually you you you have to read it because I know that you're a New England. Get the camera for Charlie put on Jim grant. I wanna see that that pasty face anymore. We believe that Jim gray has had the greatest knockout in boxing in ten years. Here is what it sounded like courtesy of Showtime. What did you think about the fight at meeting? Everybody out there beating the pike. He was missing. I hit him clean. What? Your average Nate punches less than the most punches that you had in round. And it seemed as though you couldn't get it already sound like he was against me already Hard harbored ain't gotta. talking you. Let me let me let you. "I wish I could talk about this all day long. But when I do have a chance to talk about boxing MMA, I'm taking advantage of it. And I'm so excited to talk to our next guest because there's nobody else better in the country to talk about it, then with Kevin I only from Yahoo covers MMA boxing. Kevin. How are you? It's great to have you back on the show, sir. It's great to be back through. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it. Yeah. Man. Listen what a crazy weekend and wasn't fight game for sure let's start off with the UFC fighting night in Brooklyn. It was the very first event for ESPN apartment at five year contract. I just wanted to get your thoughts on on that entire car really promotion before we get into the nuts and bolts of of the individual fights. I thought it was a huge success for you. They said. Plus subscribers one day and also today record number subscribers. They had the highest preliminary ratings for fight night at UFC history. They had all sorts of of positive things. So the relationship with UFC ESPN kicked off in the best way possible for them money. Couldn't have gone any better than it. Did what about the main events Huda and dillashaw early? Stop is. Did you think it was early? Knew I didn't have a problem with the stoppage. It was close I with Daniel Corby. A said on the broadcast that it was one of those ones, but you have to look at it this way TJ taken a kick to the face early took three big right hand. And he was not a back. He was not moving away. I see. Fifteen twenty what happened? He takes another ten or punches to the head. I believe. Wow. Maybe out were totally gone at the point that site was stopped. I think he had taken and were looking to prevent fighters. You know? Becoming. I think he had enough. It was proven who at one particular site. And I I don't have a problem with this. Yeah. It was interesting to hear Dana white speak out about it. Big John McCarthy spoke out about it. And I just you know, I wonder if it was stopped early because it's ESPN. It's New York. They didn't wanna see anybody league in on that. I I don't know. There's there's a million things that ran through my mind as the as the fight got stopped. Yeah. It is kinda funny. When you think back, it was a similar thing that happened on FOX where they thought Kateb Alaska's stop very quickly by junior. Does that fight? I don't see any sinister saved going on there. I see arrest way in the perfect position watching, and you know, you could've let it go a little bit more. Maybe. But I I don't see TJ Diller shocking. There's a reasonable chance. Undertakes punishment. Reverse the flow. Then I say, okay, he deserves to have that opportunity it, but it did not seem know who does a wrestler. He's good at haughty ties. Dillashaw in. Dominant position on top song punches. I I don't see how you know. There were such a huge controversy. I understand. It was wasn't a. I don't have a problem with it. We're talking to the Berlin. Kevin. I only from Yahoo. He covers them boxing kind enough to join me here. It's can't be our tonight chopping it up about you have seen boxing over the weekend. I wonder what this whole promotion with UFC ESPN's gonna bring to UFC. Do you think would have an impact similar to what the ultimate fighter did for the promotion? Could I hit the number one saying that it should hopefully do is it should hopefully get the scored a bigger platform? And then it gives you a bigger platform that means more money for everybody. Is you like to see the fighters make more money? The other thing for my fans standpoint that I think will be good is if it gets more popular, I teach you see better athletes coming into the sport. Because you're going to say, hey, you know, what I see this on ESPN. And I think a lot of funny, and I could get a lot of Corey. You know, that young kids decided when sports are going to go into that kind of thing plays a big role like recruiting college basketball. The, you know, the teams like Duke and Kentucky's that are, you know, always on phone vision or the ones that tend to get the the best prospects. If the young kids that are coming out to choose what sports are gonna go to see. UFC on ESPN getting along. Not just the fight all the other stuff. I mean, they just killed it all week on this. That is very have a a great long term impact. See what I would like to see is big names going to those ESPN fights rather than pay per view. Although it's a long shot to be. I I read what you wrote about John Jones, very of air informative piece. Kevin that you had now I do wonder though, I do wonder now that they had that to thirty to fight from Vegas to Inglewood. He's going to appear before the Nevada Athletic Commission what on Tuesday next week. Is he going to get that license for the Anthony Smith fight, I believe as well. And kind of coincidentally the UFC announced tonight. I who is going to. They decided not to put yours. Each of that press conference. But you know, I think that you know, John situation is very confusing for a lotta people. But there is literature out there. There's been science peuvent. This the tabloids this long-term metabolite of oil Toronto ball returns, just kind of randomly could you could test on one day, and it doesn't show up contest another day, and it does. And that seems to have been what happened to Jones in the situation that he's in. If oral Trento ball got into his system at this point. Knowingly long ago? This could be the remnants of that. Yeah. It's one of those situations. The experts are all see this is not a DUI incident. This is dot performance. Nothing that's going on here. And he is it's also important. He has been punished for this California did suspend him on after the UFC to fourteen. So I feel confident building Baker anti-doping salads, and I have and there's a lot of videos you'd go onto YouTube and before the UFC got you saw as you can see badgering Dana white about have anti doping testing. So I believe in it, and I believe strongly in it. But I think in this particular case what the scientists who studied Israel will tell you. This is not new ingestion. This is something that has been around for a long time. Then I think you have to believe them before we move onto boxing, Manny, Pacquiao by what is next for who after he defended the flyweight strap. Still I talked to a couple of times this week, and he's still deciding what to do with vision. So I think that that will impact obviously. The funny thing is out. This is for the flyways and daddy's. He said I want a rematch with teaching. So I can become a champ champ and get the bantamweight title. I gotta do this point. Taking a look at you really are thinking about the decision that you've got to go in there. Flyweight title defence. There's no doubt about that. I think if I had it that I was at that the division is done. I know it's painting to do that. Because it's going to cause people that. And there are some great ciders at that lay class. But, you know, people just for whatever reason to I don't I don't understand why the people are just not turned on by now. You know, I I wonder because I wonder about the Lord of visions the upper divisions. And then you switch number two boxing. I'm looking at many you on Adrian Bronner, would they get four hundred thousand pay per view buys how much did that outdraw the heavyweight wilder fight water fury did three twenty five. So wait for that. Tyson fury had never thought on on pay per view in the US before. And that was a good number that they had. So I thought for that one of the biggest box with a look for all this crazy. I can't stand. The Adrian broder is because he he was on HBO became. So it was a surprise that. He was part of the show that better than people expected when you look at both boxing MMA, Kevin. I is there that distinction of where people were were that predilection is is it they love the heavyweights in boxing or the heavyweights in MMA more than the wider than the lighter class. Do you? Notice a distinct difference between boxing MMA fans where their loyalty lies as far as what way class. Yeah. There's no question that in boxing. They're very heavy lean toward heaven. You have even remotely decent heavyweights support in Boston. It's kind of the way it's always been. Be the way it always is. The biggest seller can although Alvarez they're not. But you know that because we don't have the time heavyweight division. Holy holyfield-tyson. Oh, more you know on. Launch. Those guys right now. But I think the building. Bigger fighters not necessarily heavyweight book. What do I think is the most popular division in the US? You right now. Me. I would say probably the lightweight. So without be the McGregor. Tony ferguson. Silly coming up Jessica as far Bose. Can you imagine home? Hi, blowing bite's gonna know. Boy. Yes. Necessarily played per se. But it's bigger guys. Kevin. I appreciate your time. Appreciate you hanging out with me before I let you go. I do want to ask you this. When it comes to two thousand nineteen what is the one thing you're looking for from combat sports this year. I hope like you said before. Boxing. We have matrix Lacey. Don't just necessarily always go on some kind of pace. I dig it. Kevin. Thank you so much for the time. It's always great to talk to you. How to catch up with soon, sir? Thank you, my friend. Appreciate it. Jay there is the great Kevin. I only from Yahoo outstanding. There's nobody better on the planet in my mind who covers MMA boxing at that level than Kevin. I only add Kevin I on Twitter. We'll come back reactive what Kevin had to say about the fight game. Get back into the NBA the warriors topped the wizards tonight, and we're going to the NFL a lot of things happening around that especially when it comes to Antonio Brown. There is a team that he has been linked to and it is not out here in the west coast coming up on these sports leader, download.

"Because while the fury was so unsuccessful Bakeo. There was a boom was a drive by we will give him one minute. Obviously give you more because we were on our way out. But yeah, we have yet to see one report that this was unsuccessful. But that's what every single caller chatter wants us to believe if Espinosa and Showtime on not upset if Espinosa Showtime or okay? And they're so, okay. They did doing a pay per view in December. Then they turned around, and they one in January and now they're gonna turn around and do one again in March. I think you guys need to check. Yourselves man. I would say I will also say I don't think comparing Adrian broder Manny pack, you'll pay per view will be compared to undisputed linear everything of a heavyweight division. I think that's gonna sell more than this fight. Then. Yeah. Definitely. It will. Absolutely. That's what I'll say earlier is. You know, this is this is the heavyweight divisions pay per view numbers are just the beginning. We are going to see the tide change. I it's right now, though, I think they're way right and losing momentum. You're right. You're right. But I believe that whatever we're seeing now is only gonna pick up on the rise deonte wilder Anthony, Joshua, regardless of whether they fight not regardless if I when they do fi, no matter which one wins or loses. They're both going to be come big or SARS because of it looks like we got Jay on a boomerang j what up? Yeah. Man. I know when we look at these pay per view, and we got all the stuff that. Yeah. You got people paying money on those shots. I mean so much back in when we got we got the moving through people that come to the actual fight just so much hidden money. Then we don't get to see. So I really think success, and when they say that they break even to Kelly in mice. They're paying the fighters to so everything else will cover that. It was great. I mean, come on there. We gotta be more smarter nine now have elite. We can't believe him. He's lying Espinoza said to fifty is a success for them. He's lying borough. We can't believe him. Okay. Where we can't believe that something different. But I mean. This is all about thirty one. He. It was sarcasm because that's the argument. That's the argument from the other side, they're saying, oh, you know. Why would we believe Spinoza? He's a weasel. But Jay, we got to go. Catch you in New York already know, we are cutting. My name is nester Gibbs final thoughts. Hey, man, again, if the writers that are out there that know more than me are saying this is success in many as a pay per view star. Well, then he is. I just can't wait to see. What's next? I hope that he continues to strike while the iron is hot as well. No need in letting things died down catch us right here. In regards to pack outs old numbers in regards to the pay per view numbers. We've seen recently with people such as wilder the wa the numbers in relation to what they might mean towards the Earl spins Mikey Garcia, just the whole climate of boxing. I think that these numbers are telling and at the same time, I've never been a guy that put too much stock in to a pay per view numbers. But yeah, you know, a definitely wanna get into it. Definitely wanna get your guys out on the road. She all you know, hit that pavement. Com. During the bid up. Era era. Eras. Once there. Objectives. Good morning. We're gonna have a nice fun topic a little less drama free. Hopefully this morning, we're going to switch gears. We're gonna talk about some numbers now with this being said, many haven't or hasn't fought un-american pay per view and more than two years and his numbers weren't nearest four hundred thousand back then so we're going to dissect, and look how many pack you did. And also Adrian broder probably like the second and third highest Showtime viewership boxer. You would say in the last two years did on his first pay per view. And see if this was a great success. Did you expect this was done that flop will go into all that? So the start to show. I guess my first question to you guys is based off the numbers that two different reporters are reporting, Ron if you could just pull those up so we could give those tweets and let people know who and where this is coming from. Then we'll move on shirt. So there has been two reports. One other reports came from Keith saying that is slightly better than Deontay water, and Tyson fury and Mike cop injure seems to have a little bit more specific number saying that pay per view buys tracking over four hundred thousand more will be clear later this week. But if the third numbers hold up that's a commercial success for PBC Showtime manny's still draw that was a tweet that might cop injure, obviously PBC inside. But also ring ring magazine, boxing insider, kind of editorial now anything from ESPN have they picked up any of these stories because usually Dan or one of the guys that he has PIN sees a story and then calls their own, you know, whoever they know in the camp to try and get their own quo have a load up. Well, boxing, news is definitely reported on it in a few other smaller websites. They're all reporting over four hundred thousand but no not yet..

"Trade it looks very conflicted. Like, yeah. I'm on your side. Maybe I'll say looking guys doing his best as a trainer the one mantle. You don't want is a neighbor the boxing trainer, you have another doughnut shape. You don't need to practice. Clock. Call you could be pulled on Yeah. in. Kind of mean to be the guy. Trainer reality. If you have one eight out of eleven rounds, and you're going out for the twelfth round the trainer guy kind of has to go. You got to win this round not coast where we're fine. So he's got a little conflicted because the guy through eight punches around. Sorry. That's a computer that got that. By the way, I will rewind it a little note. My grandma used to say do the stugatz Nellie do is your grandmother's name used to be and still is I guess it is, but it's on a headstone. Always be your name kind of neighbor that it's an odd name. I believe it's a French name. We were a French ancestry, which I don't like to talk about a lot VC's donlevatar show with his two guys on ESPN radio. Greg Cody of the Miami Herald n with us today. I wanna get Adrian Brunner. We've got a lot of good sound Jim gray still in the game. Hollywood star believe he not only does he have a star on the walk of fame. I believe Bill Clinton was a part of the ceremony. Jim Greg still getting it done interviewing Adrian Brunner who is. Is just awful. I remember when he was in Miami. I you know, and he is trying to do the dirty Floyd Mayweather stuff as Floyd Mayweather. You know wanders around Miami. And just gives people a duffel bag filled with ten thousand dollars. So he can have a chair at a poolside Cabana and Brunner was trying to do the same thing by flushing hundred dollar bills down the toilet. And it was like Brunner. That's not the same thing that guy. It's not what are you doing? And he's basically done the same thing with his whole career. Like he might have talent somewhere in there. But he just lost to the future, president of the Philippines. Like, just lost politician. You thought he was going to be great. I wanted him to be great. Oh, you had a lot of hype and a lot of support behind him. But this seems like a pretty transparent set up for Mayweather pack. Yeah. So here it is. I mean, he did nothing in the fight and ease delusional and packing. How is spent and it was all Pac you, I was busy and Brunner landed four punches around. And this sound is unbelievable. It's unbelievable sound after a fight. It makes you wonder whether he got hit so many times that he was no longer thinking correctly. What did you think about the fight meeting? Everybody out there beating clothe the fight. He was missing. I hit him clean. What? Beat him averaged eight punches less than eight inches was the most punches that you had in round. And it seemed as though you couldn't get up. It already sounded like he was against me. So I already harbored ain't gotta take talking you. And also, by the way, Brunner the hood is laughing at you to like, it it feels to me like black people are more embarrassed. Based on what it is that I've seen about his behavior than the average person because he's out here being a dope in a way. That is just it's not a good look later alone. "Saddam show here on ESPN LA, Freddie, prince junior hanging out baba Momo's here. And of course, we're gonna announce the winner right at six o'clock for the grand prize of the boxing gloves signed by many pack, Adrian broder and a free code for the want me to sign the glove too. Yeah. You could sign it to think that up the. Yeah. Sure, I mention this sandwich that you've got is delicious. Thanks for feeding me, bro. She hit shutout to Steve Mason boy, sandwiches, any better than somebody who brings food into the office and like most Moses that happened. It's like, I'm super hungry. Yeah. Like, I'm like all your out. Ooh. I know looks good food things. Like, I remember one time I did a show with Ochej and Mace and O'Shea win ordered food for himself. But like didn't ask us if we wanted anything. I'm so hungry right now, you're just eating this. And he literally just like reached into the bag. It was like here have a bird five is. And I was like I'm eating at right now. You know, what it is? That's great. It's also great as Al Bernstein who joins us now to talk about. Oh, no. He's not on the line. Yeah. Okay. So he doesn't I thought I heard Vegas in my ear. But apparently, we miss you. Yes. Let was amazing in the presser for Pat. Look, I'm the that watches like boxing presser. Great seven people as well. Packie out doesn't ever give a great interview because of the language barrier? But Browner has had issue with Al Bernstein ever since the Mikey Garcia fight because Albert Einstein criticized him and was pretty pretty tap on it. And and he was right, by the way, everything he said was right. And Mikey crushed him. Yeah. But in the presser today, he asks Brunner one question and Brunner just goes, I never with you. Thanks. Except the real word. Right. Hey goes yeoman. I and just goes all in on Burs and Algis looking at him like your you serious. And he literally stops the presser and says, listen you guys can ask Adrian questions. Apparently he doesn't want to answer any for me. Open it up. How we is left and right now Bill Plachy had a similar back and forth, Marcus, Peter. Nah recently of the ramp. Let's take a listen. We actually have the back and forth year evaluate your season. I think we ain't doing it. You you personally. I think we ain't doing it. No, he wasn't having it. We did she say some more. That's all they have your for me. I think it was like because you kind of stink. It was kind of like it wasn't just like the the insinuation of that. I think Bill actually said that like you personally have been very disappointing like like, I'm not quoting him. But he said something to that effect. Wow. Yeah. I love it. Good for him. Because most of the time when when a journalist like when you're asking that hard question Jovica, they softened they soften or you get nervous when they call you back out like you don't really want to you you run from it. Right. You like, oh, that's not what I mean. You know, it's not like, I'm just trying to be polite. You know, I think it's funny. Two quick stories on that. Stephen a Smith did some thing. Right. Where he like he was telling people that John wall was out partying see nightclub. And then John wall was talking smack about him at practice back to a Stephen a Smith flew to DC their practice facility and was like stood right in front of like now. What? Yeah. Like old school gangster, this even gonna get knocked out. You better be careful, man. Learn like not to mess with Stephen off. Yeah. You know? Kevin Durant thing. No doll. Kevin Durant, though, he not one mama came on the show and then mama. Durant? Mama wanda. Yes. Better watch out, man. He's dealing with a generation of athletes that do not like criticism and a lot of them will haul off and smack you. But let's ask our Bernstein. We'll talk to him the great outburts dean, of course, joins us. Now here Paki out Brunner this weekend on Showtime, of course, pay per view. We will actually announce the winner in a few minutes of our autograph glove to both fighters autograph, the glove, and of course, a free promo code for the pay per view as well..

"Vegas, Nevada. Manny Pacquiao the seasoned veteran sixty seventy and two three nine knockouts against Adrian broder three three three one and one no contest on there as well. Twenty four knockouts broder's such unbelievable showman in the ring. We'll see what he does. He is a veteran. Manny Pacquiao we turn to our guide that covers combat sports like a blanket for us here on the under the hood show, also see on f s one and covering on Showtime as well. It is a great floors. And he's with me here on ESPN one thousand of the espionage live from Las Vegas. Hello ray. Good evening to you from the fighting capital of the world. And and it is the great Jonathan hosted. I enjoyed it. So always a pleasure to be with you, my friend. What I want to get your thoughts on Browner, first and foremost because this is going to be interesting fight for him. I saw the press conference this Al Bernstein. So he doesn't f- with Albert Einstein. That was kinda rough on the way he handled the the season veteran, Albert Einstein. But what are your thoughts on bronner's career because I wanna talk about that? I. Jonathan I think Adrian Brodie is in underachiever in this sense. He's never won that big fight when he stepped up to that elite world class level. He has fared. Well. Losses to Mike McCarthy. Losses to Sean order. You know, he has, you know, gone a loss Markle's, Mike, Donald Trump. And Jesse Vargas. He reminds me, and I know that millennials going to be like what? But he reminds me of the Buffalo Bills of the nineteen nineties. They could win the championship game. But they could never win the Super Bowl. That's what Adrian Brodie is in boxing champion change that on Saturday. Absolutely. We'll we'll find out. Do you believe because those losses rate that is stop broder from being in the mainstream? We know the unite both know the personality years, he's flashy loves to talk. And I mean, cut a promo like, no other. But I still believe that he's just a few steps obviously behind Floyd Mayweather as far as a personality that's outside the boxing realm has a losses hurt that you think is in that spot. This is why you are the most knowledgeable host when it comes to combat sports all the Chicago and throughout the country because exactly that if you're going to be the bad guy, or as you such an adequate job of breaking down sports, entertainment pro wrestling, if you're going to be the he'll then you have to back it up. You have to win at the elite level. Adrian Brodie has not so people will get him. Like he is east talking rashes. Venus clown. What when he steps up e. Do. Well, so people can't take him seriously. If he's the pizza Mattie pack, y'all you better take him seriously because he will have won the quote, unquote, big fight. That is what he's facing coming up this weekend here in Las Vegas. Ray? Floor is live with us in Las Vegas with Jonathan hood on ESPN one thousand and the espionage athletes talking about Brunner against Pac Yao in this fight. Clearly, there's money on the line you, and I both know why pack your took this fight. But what would just do for his legacy? He's beating so many. He's been beaten by so many as well, what was this fight do for Manny Pacquiao, Jonathan I been around many pack. Yeah. For the past week. I've talked to him three times since last Wednesday. I'll tell you is that this is a matter of fact. Yeah. That seems to be rejuvenated. He feels good fighting back in the United States is now fighting under the premier Boston champion banner, and is advised by all Hayman, the motivation in my opinion for Manny Pacquiao is to further his legacy the fight against the injury. And if he's successful because he's a three to one favorite. I think the motivation for Matty pack. Yeah. And those around talking to Freddie Roach is to lure Floyd Mayweather out of retirement because that is the monkey on the back on Manny Pacquiao division world champion, Ben appropriate twenty four years the one fight that of aging is that lost. You boy Mayweather. And they still believe it was the show injury. That was a contributing factor to his defeat. So they wanna get me while they're in the ring once again, Freddie, Roach dirt you wanted. Said he said all the right things. I want to focus on January nineteenth against Adrian broder. But I do believe in my heart that manufacturing wants, another crack may weather, the super book opened the fight total at ten and a half rounds, minus two seventy five in the plus two twenty five pack Yao is minus three hundred bronner's at plus two forty tell me about the buzz in Vegas. Always want to ask you about that. Because being in Vegas myself. I've seen these super fights it's palpable on the streets. Do you is there a buzz yet? Or is it too early? Now, there was the buzz Jonathan I've been here since curious day a fight week. And I'll tell you that Filipino fans. And and and literally ninety pack is a superstar you say one name. I mean, very rarely do guys in combat sports. I've been around for a long time, you see one name and people in the general population know, who you're talking about pack yells, one of them people probably seven or eight Jeep lined up to see manufacturers ran arrival, which I was. Enough to host and talk to Matty's people are coming in Vegas. This weekend already were on Thursday. So there is a buzz here in Las Vegas, not so much and people are looking at Boehner as an opponent, but Ronan house wouldn't self in the headlines as you pointed out, but but there is a buzz here in the finding capital of the world in January. I love I love that. I love that an industry. It's people are talking about the fight as long as you've been there, which is really cool anything stand out before. I get your thoughts on the fight anything on the undercard that tickles your fancy Jonathan. I think this is a really deep undercard in. And you're you point out and many times have you worked with you at ESPN what about the meat and cheese crowd. Well, I'll tell you that here in Vegas when it comes to the meat and cheese crowd. People sickly only show off for the main event. But this undercard has decided you got body Jack was thirty five years of age taking on Marcus Ron is undefeated. Both guys are former Olympian that's about one hundred. Seventy five pounds. You have a fight with Russia. He warned taking on or Dino Bali. Both guys were former Olympian fought at the Olympic level against one another and they're going head to head. You have a fight a title fight with Jack the boroughs from the Philippines, going head to head against you. Go released from Mexico, the Philippines against Mexico that rivalry when you'd watch again that be a fun in the featherweight division for five Jack marches on really look for because these guys are gonna stand in trade. They're going to slug it out on Saturday as the copay. Okay. Four again, I'm going to stretch this out because I know people are waiting to find out who you like in the fight. But I do I'm interested in finding out your thoughts on the UFC being with the SPN similar to professional wrestling. You know, how this works Ray? If there's going to be a pay per view fight. You have got to put something on whether it's on over the year. Whether it's over the air with it's on cable having their own event because they want to be against the boxing and vice versa. We've seen this over the years. Right. What do you think of Dana white and the UFC being on ESPN, and what can ESPN do that f s one did not? I think that this is a play for ESPN huge raw people for both tried to ESPN's laws. ESPN? Plus if you will get the the UFC has over forty events, and if I'm correct Jonathan almost half of those cars are on ESPN, plus. So the UFC and MMA fans are very loyal. They're very much like wrestling fans, sports entertainment fans. So I think this is ESPN's weight has to say we are going to put a lot of most of behind ESPN me up. The juggernaut biggest Emma may organization on the planet. That's half of their events on ESPN, plus the TV they're gonna draw really good ratings ESPN. They're not doing as many as you probably doing it to six paper views this year. You what she was doing fifteen sixteen year? It is about getting that gives a subscription, which is why I think the UFC is now on ESPN. Yeah. And and so I think it's going to be interesting. Do you? I'll ask you this. You know, the what's happening with the UFC fight this weekend. Will that have any effect on the fight that you're at for boxing? I would think so Charleston because you can watch both and in it is, you know, the fight is at Barclay center in Brooklyn. So those that are on ESPN they could watch the USC they could watch ill Shah and the whole do go head to head, and then you can flip vulgar to your paper view, and you can check out on many Adrian burners. So I don't think it'll it'll have any effect that you sneak it'll make for a better combat sports viewing for the fans on Saturday night. All right. How many rounds does this fight? Go. I think that this does the distance Jonathan in got any conversations with FREDDY Roach and those around Adrian Brodie look as much as Adrian Brodie can be, you know, a cloud and be boisterous and brash. I don't think he's gonna get steamrolled per se it'll get knocked out 'cause oh what's been able to knock it out. Your brother has a lot of hard. I think they'll beat him. But I simply I think she pounds him. I think he hurts him. But I don't think he stops. And this is the most focus I bird Adrian Bonin alongside. So he had a very good training camp. I think back you'll wins a very dominant decision. Boy Mayweather hats. He will be ringside watching this, spike. There are rumors that if pack y'all role then pack y'all and Mayweather number two likely happened in September. Granted I'm gonna say it again, those are rumors. But that's what I'm hearing around some circles here in Las Vegas. You don't think there's money in Bronner repack, you out to pack. Your wins. I don't think. So because it's again, it's like, okay, he stepped up again any laws. So then he becomes more of an opponent for younger guys that are looking to build their name into welterweight division. If back, you always dominant Lee Mayweather is gonna see it may whether you're gonna see dollar signs, and I think that fight happened. Just the camber if what I believe will happen on Saturday night. Let me tell you something Ray if Bronner doesn't win this fight, and I've seen all the predictions a lot of people feel like you that this can go the distance with pack y'all with with the win. Here. If Brennan doesn't a win this fight. I don't know what the next money fight is for him. And then on top of that the three losses. Would it be four? If he loses Saturday, then I then I don't know where he goes. And that's a shame because that's a thirty for thirty in itself. So much flash. So much talk so much pomp and circumstance. But yes, just as you mentioned underachieving never getting to the to the top. And that's that's too bad because he has a gift to gab. But if you're not winning big fights fights like this. Then then you just another guy. Johnson to Keith rates your Boehner. He's gotta start fast. He hasn't started fast against my Donna. Dan, Sean porter. You know, again, you know, the likes of you know, anytime he's moved up. He never started fast. Can't wait. He has got to start extremely quick and bring fight to Manny pack, your backyard stated, you know, is going to be a counterpuncher and he's knocking over stuff against Marquez. But. From a price fighting standpoint do-or-die situation for Adrian Boehner. Which is why I think I think it makes him the most dangerous that he's ever been in his career. All right from the MGM grand in Las Vegas. That's right floors. Ray as always I appreciate it. What's your next assignment? Can we see you preview this a little bit more on Friday? Yes. He also Jonathan tomorrow. I have no duties when it comes to the Wayne's but Saturday, I will be a part of the show alongside Jonathan coach made him. Steve borrowed the hall of Famer. So we will be on on on social media on YouTube on Facebook deputy championship. I'll be doing that. "And then if he can get a big name fight and move up with the Mike you're see or something like that. He needs that with Terence Crawford. It's just like his team is house them in this bubble. And they're like, oh, you're going to find a name, here's Americana and was like we'll fuck, bro. Like, all right. I guess. We'll take that. You know? I would say turns Crawford the problem with him is he's thirty three years old now who has he faced anybody. But it's only in fucking Nebraska. He will only find Omaha Nebraska. And I think turns Crawford is the scariest guy in the world. Unbelievable. Everyone's notice no one besides devante Davis. Who's also crazy no-one calls out tunes Crawford. There's a reason for that. But he can't get fights terrorists. Corporates unbelievable fighter. But the fact is that his resume right now is paper thin even at thirty three years old. And then I have people saying, oh, well, he unified hundred and forty and it was the first undisputed champion, and those are the same people that complain we have too many bills. So which one is it those guys were mostly paper champions. He beat dream matchup for tunes Crawford. If you if you're if you're the Scrooge mcduck of box right now, and you have to worry about alliance. Who would you have to fight? I was diving into my volts of coins. I would make a fight between Terence Crawford and aerospace junior, right? Best fight in boxing, peering. Right. Why don't they do it man there? Talking shift each other in social media politics. They don't do it. The pipes going to have to rice in the level where PBC and topper and get together and say ok looks to join paper view, whether it's ESPN and Showtime ESPN and FOX let's join pay per view split down the middle and get this done. Same way we saw with Tyson and Lennox Lewis. For may whether in Manny Pacquiao, that's what's going to take. We'll see I don't think when I can see it goes down. All right, guys. There you have it. Adrian broder. Manny Packer, fighting this Saturday on pay per view, Showtime, January nineteenth he's taking pack yell. I think Adrian Boehner can do it. Tune in. Thanks for coming in. We needed a box and head on this show. Your might go to and I sent out the bat signal your. Coming in, bro. Appreciate around there. You have it boxing head. I think I made them uncomfortable. When I said balls deep insider of boxing, Mike, Koppen, jer fun guy, man. You need guys like this. He's a writer off the podcasting in connecting with maize, not his forte. He's a he's a he's an expert when it comes to boxing. I am not don't wanna box in my day. But he knows the insides the outsides the down low. He's in the camp. He's in the trenches. This is this is what he does. So I wanted to bring him into get different perspective of everything going on. And you know, I talk a lot of shed and I hear some rumors. But this guy he he knows and even offer he told me some things like, dude. I wish we could have talked about this. He's like, you just can't you just can't so yeah. It was a fun wine. Anytime we have big fights coming up. We'll probably reach out to him to kind of break it down for you guys. Hopefully enjoyed it. It's a quick one. It's a fun one. "I think this is our ninth or tenth fight into state of New York, and we've been up upstate and all around spin a wonderful market for us. And I'm actually I can't wait for Brooklyn. Now, I'm I'm looking forward to the dillashaw Tila, Shah and Kudo. Is on that card. Dennis promoters to me. It just goes through want to see if this great hardy can really fight. I don't know how good the opponent is for sure. Greg hardy can fight. Well, you're right level. Yeah. All fight Dana white contender series, cool. Man. Everybody is a good fighter till they get hits when Tyson's lines. And I want to see if I could stand up because great Cardi comes out swinging. He's going to knock you out first punches if he can. So that'll be interesting. So I'm looking forward to this card, but as ban Sansone it. It's it's yeah. It's a good card. It'll be interesting to me. I'll get there. And the ESPN era is now born that's a huge huge thing for us. Yeah. It'll help it'll help the whole sport. But it is great for us. You'll see more shoulder programming. He'll see Dana on. Now, let's say Mike and Mike but get up or you'll see him with the Steven A. And all that stuff. You wouldn't get on FOX, right? No offense to FOX, which was a great partner for us. But this is a definitely a vertical move for us. And I'm delighted for sure all right? Randy one last thing here before we let you go. Tell us a little bit about pack. Our versus Browner, how do you see it going down? Give us a quick breakdown of that one. Well, it's is Manny Pacquiao a young forty years older z forty years old on the older side. If he's got the hand speed, if you still got the combination punching if he's got the foot speed, I think he's just going to be too much for Adrian broder who I think has been one massive of wasted talent. He's got Bruno really has everything. But I don't think he's going to bring it because he has never shown that. He does bring it every time. I'm looking for Manny Pacquiao to win it on a late round TKO or a one sided beatdown decision. Wow. Okay. Goes ready? Thus. I know you got a book coming out in April, commuting gives a little more information on that. Yeah. It's called glove affair, it's it's one of the works of my life. And Mark has been hearing about this for about four hundred years glove affair is going to be out Roman and little feel putting it out you could check it out on Amazon dot com or Roman ARA WFAN dot com..

"Inboxes ZD's jargon. Well, the ZD thing is we we rejuvenated from sopranos. But I believe Murray uses the kicking is for losers out in other gambling show. So I if they're stealing hours, I think it's a Murray thing, okay? I think we're okay. We're okay. Because it's Murray's ownership. I told him to get a trademark he's working on it, man. I don't know if he's working on it. But I bet so. Yeah. Man. Good stuff any confessions of a non gambler in the UFC betting talk. You know, what when you were saying that? Some of the routes some of the matches are being shaded believed that what is what is that? That's a good question. It's just the money line is that way. So instead of a pick them if it's minus one thirty shaded to the in this case over for talking over on its four and a half, minus thirty five. Okay. So and that's a slight favorite meaning. Okay. Needed that way. And that typically used in the fight space more than the. Yeah, we're just anything that's got money line. And he lets the money line trying to think. Probably on an over under. I guess now that I'm thinking out loudly with that rather than like in this case, if there was a person like page, vans aunt is favored, she's a slight favorite instead instead of shaded that way, I think over under stuff, and that's not. You can say it's favored to go over. But I think it's shaded overs sort of that way. Okay. It's better more procreate term. How about your your action on the Australian Open house that You know, as I do? I do tennis people I need to reach out to them and gets gets a lot lot of dogs. Those always fun about the long shot so holies, but one more question for you. And I know that everybody's here or that listened was for the animated stuff. But there is another boxing. Fight going down on the nineteenth many pack Yao Adrian broder. What are what are your thoughts? Putting you on spot here. I have no thoughts. Let's get Murray's thoughts on. He's a big boxing guy as well. We'll get his thoughts on that that as well. And some of the he's got a UFC pick as well. We'll get his input. Also looking forward to that. All right. Good connecting. "Oh, it is on the nineteenth. I liked it. Okay. You going to go Travis. I'm not going to go. That is what we call a championship weekend and the NFL, hopefully, we're busy busy. Yes. You're not. You're not going to dampen. This still know you're anti-god Saturday night at the Coliseum divisional weekend. You know, it's going to stop it. Guys, grow cyber loses. That was that undeserved on KOMO, man. Stop it. Did you watch it? Yeah. I watched it because it was John Paul Jones bones Jones returned to the on on Saturday night. So, you know, I don't know if you saw Dana White's comments just weekend. Try Dana white got a little heated about well. You not a big UFC fan. Not a particularly I am a UFC fan alike watching because I get the fights that I want. That's why I'm gets boxing. I don't like boxing in terms of guys. There's no governing body that makes people fight like. Bring up terrain all win. And who Asia Adrian broder, like somebody wants bar pack for web pack, y'all been retire. Right. As a musician. I just give just saying. This. Wants that. It's the farewell tour is in the trash Rosh wants that unless pack. Yeah. Singing national anthem the Philippine national anthem. We come on, man. What you might. That's that's what you go for data entertainment. But watching Dana white the other night. So Chris cyborg whose was the women's champion. Okay. She beat by men in this. And so many Nunez has now beaten. Remember, she knocked out Ronda Rousey, really quickly to right? I think she'd be highly home as well. And I think she just beat. I mean, she just beat Chris I bore and so with Dana white after the fight, you know, he's talking about how this is great for UFC in their their reveal formerly of ESPN. Now, I think he's with offer gateways win. Anyway, basically reveal tells him is this. This isn't good for your sport. You got somebody who's not really in terms of what you played his Dr music. Especially story whatever's gonna finish. The busy. Anyway, if you wanna go find the store, this is Manny notice. It's bad for the sport sport Travis because obviously UFC has to market their stars thinking about it with Conor McGregor fights, look, I don't care. I wanna see wanna watch it not the necessarily because of the fight because of the spectacle, what he's going to do what he's going to say what he's going to wear all of that stuff. So look men and who has wins this weekend. Now, you have see like, okay. Well, she's not really there's a new UFC every six days, and it's just it's it's hard to whatever the casual fan like you and Travis we don't care if there's a new champ every no I yeah. I need what's bad. Somebody. Is that bad or is that Floyd Mayweather knocked out like Mudoukh, my uncle at a twenty. Who was he find some guy? I was like he's just came off the east the game. Down and said, I wanna fight pack. A weird vibe at the Rose Bowl at the end of the game last night. We'll get into it next. This is your fault. Well, no, we gotta work in because kirks long winded story that went nowhere. Last segment. Did I was just a bit? Amanda Nunez is basically going to again. Careers like she ended rondor she took Ronda Rousey is knocked her out took her from UFC to WWE, Ronda Rousey was the most over hyped thing. I've ever seen him because she's a great gold, medalist, great athlete. But it was when his greatest it's like, you're treating her like she's Muhammad Ali. She's had ten fight. Now, you can see here on Monday night, raw you can't tell me. So. He's never when they've had ten of anything. Check, Ronda Rousey out on smackdown. Actress now, right or performance, right? I went to the Rose Bowl game yesterday Kirk as as I do most January release, I know Felice on Agno..

"So if you bet on him, twenty dollars, you win one hundred eighty. So if you bet on anybody, you're giving your money to the bookie see you saying go could be Vegas is just chewing swallowing. All of the bets here. It sounds like he's got a lot of upside here. It should be a million to one basically. They shouldn't even allow anyone's bet on this. This shouldn't be a line. It should be scratched through written through no lines. I'm begging. You listeners do not get drunk and put a couple of hundred dollars on Habib like I probably will next weekend. Don't do it do not do it. Did you say do put it? Don't do it now for anyone saying, but Habib dropped Connor in their fight with the nasty over handwrite. That's sort of true McGregor did get knocked down, but he still had both those feet under him and he was stumbling backwards and he is, but barely touched the ground and he got back up. Also. He was worrying about a takedown constantly and not looking for an overhand. Right? Which whether will not have to worry about in a boxing match and in a boxing match or any of c match? They're wearing like basically, they're basically bare fist. It's like two ounce open, fingered glove, and a boxing match your like wearing like sixteen ounce pillow Hans that that takes quite a bit of power out of those those punches thrown. Lastly, Floyd Mayweather has never been hit with the clean overhand right in his fucking life. So do you think the fact that there there, there's it eleven year difference is gonna affect the fight whatsoever? None, none, none. I hope this fight doesn't happen because I'm too pathetic. And week not to buy it. I'm just going to buy it. If you're eights media, may whether a win ten out of the twelve rounds or maybe even eleven and twelve all it won't go twelve and and it's going to cost like one hundred nineteen ninety nine which just sucks. But it's going to happen. People are saying that it's not going to happen and you're wrong because there's too much money involved. So it's going to happen. Mayweather said today, it's definitely going to happen and his other opponent was going to be pack Yao Mayweather Pacquiao to and pack you out. Just signed to fight Adrian broder taking him out of the out of the running. So Floyd has no one to fight except for the. Let's take it to the internet to see what people have to say about this fight. The pianist, Adrian Brune no. Okay. Darrelle Moran said on Facebook mate. Your stand up as a joke, talking about Habib Mayweather would wipe the floor with you. Here's a thought and the inevitable rematch with McGregor trash, staying on your feet and see what happens. So he just wants them to rematch McGregor and and and yeah, that would be better. But why would he wrestled him like he just wants them to lose to McGregor because he ran McGregor. Yeah, exactly. That was the point. I think at some other stories we couldn't get to Don Mcgann is gone Wednesday marked the end of this White House legal counsel tenure. You may remember that President Trump was pretty upset when he learned that Magan spent over thirty hours interviewing with Mueller. So this was a longtime coming. Don't like him too. Soon, though. Liberals, his main task for the Trump administration was getting federal judges appointed, and he was pretty damn good at that eighty four and counting for Trump's so far, it's impressive. It's a lot of judges short, short period of time. Now gone Dhamma gones like frito. Exactly. You might remember Dr grant Robichaud and is insane girlfriend? They were the ones who drugged and raped several, maybe even hundreds of his patients together and got caught anyhow. Looks like you can add kidnapping to those charges as five new victims of press charges, including kidnapping. The pictures of these two monumental pieces of shit sitting in the courtroom on the verge of tears are fantastic. Go check him out. He's on trial for eighty two years now, and she's up to sixty three. Well, five counts of kidnapping and hundreds of rape. It should be double triple life sentences. Yeah, they're basically like to Cosby's too. A couple of calls Qazis hanging out Cosby's out there.
