"I'll give you the eagles or the field. I like the eagles. And I like a Jalen, a healthy Jalen hurts. I've had that injury and he looked, he looked like yesterday, like I felt when I tried to play with that injury. Hopefully he gets healthy in time that buys big. Are the niners better with Brock purdy? I think so. I think so. He's the real deal. He needs to be taken seriously. And that's crazy to say. But like I said, earlier with Pete Carroll has a formula and a vision of how he wants to run his team. Kyle Shanahan has the exact same thing in Brock birdy's fitting into that perfectly right now. I have said Matt's my favorite hasselback. Haven't I paused? Oh, for decades. Great appearance, man. You seem you seem a little suspicious about that. No, you know, it's high praise, you know? I was thinking about my wife, my younger brother. A lot of people, like rich eisen would tell you. And I know your Friends is rich. Rich eisen would tell you that my youngest brother, Nathaniel, who people don't know about because he doesn't work on television. His favorite. And most people would usually say that. But people like Friends of ours, people who know us, always say my wife. So it all depends. But I thank you for the compliment. I would have said your dad, because I'm in more of that era, having actually seen your dad play football, but I get that a lot. Like Adrian wojnarowski, who covers NBA at ESPN. I don't know him well. The first time I met him at work, he was like, hey, it was a big fan of your dad's growing up, or Jeffrey lurie. Who is the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles the first time I met him down there. He was like, I was a season ticket holder for the Patriots. I used to love your dad and Steve grogan and Russ Francis. I'm like, you know, that's awesome. I appreciate it. Next time we'll have Matt's wife on fritzi when you book them, we'll get mad. You won't like that.

"It's trade deadline day in the NFL as soon as we're off the air this one hour to go and then that's it. For trades to be made in the 2022 season, Adrian wojnarowski from the worldwide leader in sports sending out a woj bomb moments ago, just as we were going off the air an hour number one, the nets and Steve Nash have parted ways. That's it. Decision was mutual. The nets are like, please go and Nash is like please send me out and pay me off. I want out of here. And then that's one last night. Wow. And the nets one last night. All right, so here's what's going to happen. We're going to go through the rest of this hour as we planned. The third hour of this show, we've got mister Tony Halen studio an hour number three. Love it. The top of the next hour will chew into the subject matters. Sounds great. But we've got at the moment here to kick off our number two on the Mercedes Benz van's phone lon is our friend from the MM QB and Sports Illustrated Albuquerque. How are you doing Albert? Yeah, normally I would say like the parting ways like garbage on a firing is BS, but in this case it's actually believable. Mutual mutual. They're like, it's not working here with you anymore, and he's just like, I don't want to work here anymore. So I guess this makes it perfect. Absolutely. And please pay me off and let's go. I'm assuming that's the way it all worked out. But we'll get into it a little bit more. It's trade deadline day. TJ hawkinson going from the Lions to the Vikings in the first hour of our program with just mere hours to go on a swamp of picks, I know the lions are maybe ready to tap out on this season and Dan Campbell might feel differently, but in division. That one is a shocker to me. I don't know why I know you want to try and get picks, but Hawkins and division that maybe they hold up the Vikings for more than they could have gotten from somewhere else because they are in division. Is that what happened? Well, the really interesting thing is, and rich, you were sitting on the set right there when it happened. This is the second time. They've pulled off a blockbuster deal together because if you'll remember, it was the Lions, the Vikings, it was the Vikings that the Lions traded up with to get jamison Williams in the draft last year. So that piece of it's interesting that now these two teams in the division with each other have done two pretty significant deals with each other. I mean, look, like I don't think it's a great indication of where the lines are right now in the year 200 Dan Campbell, obviously they've only got one win on the year and the willingness to pull the plugin on that player who maybe hadn't lived up to the top 10 billion, but it was a really, really good tight end. Is interesting. And I think with the Vikings, it's interesting back to my conversations I had with quite a few adopt moments of their first year GM and Kevin O'Connell, their first year head coach over really the last like 7 or 8 months in how much they liked what they were walking into, right? Like they were, this wasn't just not a teardown. It was like, we really like what Mike Zimmer and Rick spielman left behind for us here. And it was the locker room. It was a talent level. It was all of it. And, you know, Kevin made a conscious decision question me the conscious decision that they wanted to double down on the core and Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen and Dalvin cook and on defense Kendricks and Harry Smith and all those guys and I think it's just sort of shows you that a new coach and GM come into a place. You don't have to tear it down. And they've gotten great results. I don't think people realize they're three games in front of the packers right now in the NFC north. So certainly I think it's I think it should and will give that locker room a really nice jolt and showing them again like the guys in charge here really believe in you and the Vikings now, I think become a pretty real threat in the wide open NFC. Well, I'll tell you what. Albert, I'm definitely well aware that the Vikings are on top of the packers by three plus because they've already beaten them and packers fans sure are and this might not be evergreen to last the day once the trade deadline hits though, maybe it would be. What is the philosophy here with Brian Gouda Kung? She got a quarterback who could not have made more bones publicly about the young kids on the team either not being professional enough to study or prepare or care while also coaching the kids up by saying maybe we can do it together in Buffalo, you know? And then we did see some kids scoring buffalo. But put it all together for me about the packers thought process to get Rogers some of the help he needs and perhaps shore up a defense that's been hit around a bit last couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think they still believe in the talent on defense. Like they have 7 first round picks on their defense. 7 homegrown first round pick. So I still believe that the talents there. And the day played well enough in spots and there'll be okay. Offensively, they're in a really interesting position because I think the atoms trade hit them a little harder than maybe they suspected. And it's interesting when you talk to guys who coached against them, right?

"Welcome to open floor, I'm John Gonzalez filling in for Rohan, who was filling in for Mike pina, but I'm joined by SI senior writer and Spike Lee's favorite author. Chris herrings here. What's up, Chris? Not much, John. It's good to be with you. Always good to see you, my friend. We have a lot to get into. I feel like the NBA was dark until this week and then the lights went on and there was just so much to discuss. Later in the show, Ben Simmons speaks he went on JJ Redick's podcast old man in the three and he had a lot to say, which is I'll say not typical of Ben Simmons. He's not the biggest talker, so we'll talk about that. Anthony Edwards got fined for being intolerant. Robert sarver is looking for buyers for the sons and the mercury after being suspended for a year and find $10 million for egregious workplace misconduct. We'll get into that as well. But first, I didn't think it was possible, Chris, for anyone or anything to knock sarver off the top of the news items this week. But late Thursday night, the Boston Celtics issued a statement that had but late Thursday night the Boston Celtics issued a statement that head coach eme udoka will be suspended for the season for violations of team policy. After a month's long investigation, udoka also issued a statement saying he wants to apologize to his players fans, the entire Celtics organization and his family for letting them down said he was sorry for putting the team through a difficult situation and he accepts the team's decision. This was all first reported Chris by woj Adrian wojnarowski of ESPN that this was coming according to woj the violation of team policy involved udoka role in a consensual relationship with a female staff member. Now, there's some pushback here, various reporting shams charney of the athletic, had different details. He said some members of the Celtics organization first became aware of the relationship in July. At the time, leadership was led to believe that both parties by both parties that it was consensual, but shams reported that the woman recently accused judoka of making unwanted comments towards her, leading the team to launch a set of internal interviews. A lot to unpack here, a lot we don't know, Chris, your thoughts on what we know so far. Yeah, I mean, I would just reiterate what you said that it doesn't cost anything to be quiet about things until you feel like there's firm enough reporting and kind of not just firm enough, but also kind of that one side is kind of said, this is accurate. This is the way it happened. This is why it happened the way it happened. The Celtics just had a press conference a couple hours ago that really didn't shed a whole lot of light on much. So it's murky. It's unfortunate. Steven a smith is obviously been the loudest voice on this. He had reactions right after the press conference was over. And it sounds like it potentially could have been fireable just anytime you look at something where someone's getting suspended for a year. Particularly not just at its for a year, but also that the Celtics are saying that they kind of reserve the right to reexamine the issue. A year from now. Yeah.

"Minutes. We say hello to our second and final guests talking much more NBA with Eric hinkus bleach report straight ahead. We will make the move for the first time to the NFL. We'll say hello Cleveland, some thoughts on the impending league discipline for deshaun Watson and the future of Baker Mayfield. I give out the phone number for a reason. Not just because I'm a radio guy who over enunciates and believes in the formats of our medium, but because I do want to have a conversation with you, the tweets have been good, but a phone call is even better. One 8 four four two O four rich won a four four two O four 7 four two four N let's say hello to Elijah in Appleton, Wisconsin. Hey Elijah, thanks for joining us today. What's going on? Hello, let's just curious if you didn't have any shadow of having Kyrie Irving come to Milwaukee. All right, what are you giving up, Elijah? Give me your fantasy trade package. Maybe some of our trades from next year like maybe a few first round picks and then maybe like once the Matthews or something? Okay, I appreciate the phone call. Thanks so much for being a part of the show. We can go through a lot of different scenarios, but here would be my fundamental takeaway from Milwaukee, why would you bring Kyrie Irving in there? You have a terrific situation, primarily because of the cohesion and this team to me reflects the personality of Giannis and what a remarkable story we should talk more about his journey. I don't want to get too wrapped up in the Odyssey coming from Greece, but you know that backstory and beyond that, he's a good dude. They have a culture that works and the problem and thanks for the phone call. If you add Kyrie, is that you got to deal with Kyrie the human being. Nobody is in any way questioning what Kyrie does when he's on the court. The problem is, when is he on the court? He has a played a full season in years because of many reasons. Vaccination status, his commitment to social justice. Remember, was Kyrie when the bubble plans were coming together was wondering, should the NBA continue at all? And I respect that opinion, we can have the conversation, but you get the point I'm making. Your best ability is availability, and he just has not been out there enough, and then there's everything else that comes with him. So no, if you're the bucks, I don't think you're even open to that trade. And as we get back to this coming up with our Eric pinket conversation, bleach report, and we'll go heavy on the NBA in the final hour of the program. If Kyrie does not either stay in Brooklyn with Durant and agree to the extension and some of that's going to be proving that he can act like a reasonable adult in the remaining year left on his contract or doesn't wind up with the Lakers, it might work with the Lakers because if LeBron wants to, he knows how to manage the personality of Kyrie. Although we all change as we get older, who's to say that the relationship between LeBron and Kyrie will be the same as it was in Cleveland. I know Kyrie's here in Southern California a lot, and I'm sure they hang out. But it's very different when you get into a dispute and a locker room than it is when you're kicking it at spago or Craig's on Melrose. So I think those are the only possibilities that make sense. Skyrise stays in Brooklyn or he winds up with the Lakers because LeBron thinks he can make it work. And if you're Milwaukee with a healthy Chris Middleton, you're still the team to beat in the east. I love what Philadelphia is doing. James Harden, who I've been extremely critical of, is showing that he's an adult. He took less money. He opted out top back in and according to Adrian wojnarowski of ESPN, could happen later today, harden is going to agree to a three year deal. Not a four out of 5. Now it's still life-changing money for somebody who's already exceptionally wealthy, but he did it to give the team more flexibility because of presumably his relationship with. Daryl morey, they were together in Houston, and he realizes he's landed in a good spot with maxi and embiid. Question with him beat is, unfortunately, just as a basketball fan, he can't stay healthy and you throw in the pickup PJ Tucker, very own to rate a move, but I like, you need a glue guy in the NBA. So no, I don't see the bucks doing anything. And if nothing changes in the east, if you want my way too early, power rankings, I still think Milwaukee had Milton been healthy, would have defeated Boston, so I got Milwaukee one. Miami could make some more moves, but let's just talk about rosters is currently constructed. I have Miami and Boston on the same tier. Philadelphia probably I might slide a little bit ahead, but they're all slightly lower than Milwaukee and then Brooklyn. What are you getting out of Ben Simmons? A lot to be seen. All right, I wandered into more NBA conversation, but I do want to live up to what I told you I was going to delve into. Let's spend a few minutes on the Cleveland situation. And I want to be upfront. I'm not that comfortable talking about deshaun Watson in too much depth because the allegations are just so salacious on a big word Wednesday. They're just so tawdry. And while I use a lot of big words and I was a poli sci major, I'm not a lawyer. Now I read a lot and I respect, say, the view of Mike florio, who is a trained attorney and a great friend of this program. Rich often has the mogul behind pro football talk. I used to fill in for Mike as well.

"I mean, let's talk trade packages now because I find all of this very interesting. So the name that Adrian wojnarowski, ESPN, reported were Phoenix and Miami. Those were the two teams that were specifically referenced in regard to Kevin Durant. Phoenix, I would imagine it's some construction of Deandre ayton and Mikhail bridges. I think that you can make a case that that is to all star level talents if things go right for Kevin Durant. I've seen a subsequent report saying something like they won't trade him to Phoenix except for Devin Booker, that seems ridiculous to me. To be honest, maybe he doesn't go to Phoenix, but like you're not moving Devin Booker after he just signed this four year extension. I don't even think he's eligible to be moved to be honest. No. He's not. So that extension, yeah, he's off the table. Yeah, so that seems ridiculous to me. Having said that, the Phoenix thing gets complicated, which I'm sure you have now delved deeply into in regard to the collective bargaining agreement machinations. Without getting on a 5 minute explainer on base year compensation, can you explain why this is more difficult than meets the eye in order for a Deandre ayton Mikel bridges package to go to the Brooklyn Nets? Yeah, I'm pretty sure the money in terms of what Phoenix would be sending in what the nets would be saying in terms of salary gets tricky on that front. I think the luxury tax apron comes into play too. I want to say with some of this. Yeah, which I think is the quickest way. And while we're on the CBA, you know, bam adebayo has been talked about a lot with all this with Miami, but he's an eligible also because of the CBA clause where you can not trade for two guys on rookie extensions and then that's already having Ben Simmons. He counts as those rural rookie extensions, that is. Yes, yes. So yeah, no, I feel like Larry Kuhn today with the amount of CBA exceptions I've had to brush up on. It's complicated, man. This is gonna be a wild one. And so if you're Miami, you don't have all of your picks moving forward. I think you have quite a few of them, like not a crazy amount though, so it's like Tyler hero, and all of your drafts moving forward. I don't think that's going to be the best offer on the table. If your Phoenix, it's Deandre ayton and Mikhail bridges. Essentially, the way this works is that the roys O'Neill thing actually hamstrings Brooklyn a little bit here in regard to being close to the apron because their money is higher. If you bring in a player via sign and trade like Brooklyn would be doing with Deandre ayton, that player, you can not, as a team, go over the apron, which is like what 35 million above the south..

"They're happy. And that goal was set up by a really incredible backhand pass from Nikita kucherov. One time palat short side. They have been all over the New York rangers of this third period 51st shot. The first even strike goal this game gives the Tampa Bay lightning. It seemed like Tampa finally hit their stride in this game, so we might now be in for a long and wonderful series. Oh, we are ready for it. Let's go. Okay, let's move over to the NBA where the warriors got their groove back on Sunday Night in a big way. They absolutely crushed the Boston Celtics in game two of the NBA Finals one O 7 to 88. That's what's the series at one win apiece. And it was definitely a tale of two halves tiff in the first half, things were more or less even, but the warriors blew this game wide open in the third quarter outscoring the Celtics 35 14 to take a 23 point lead and ending the quarter with a Jordan pool three from D pool with the ball. Launches. That shot right there basically ended the game. The warriors won by 19, but led by as much as 29 early in the fourth. Steph Curry had 29 himself and 6 assists. Jordan Poole added 17 from the bench, so tiff this series now goes to Boston for game three on Wednesday. And in other NBA news, Quinn Snyder has stepped down after 8 seasons as head coach of the Utah Jazz on Sunday the team released a statement from Snyder that said, quote, I strongly feel they need a new voice to continue to evolve. That's it. No philosophical differences, no other reason, after 8 years, I just feel it is time to move onward. Yeah, this surprised some people tiff because get this, the jazz won 60% of their games under Snyder over the past 8 seasons. They had the best I know, the best regular season record in the NBA just last season, and they have made 6 consecutive playoff appearances, but they have never gotten past the second round, and despite Snyder saying this move was for the players tiff, it sounds like his resignation was a surprise. To those very players. ESPN's Adrian wojnarowski reported on Sunday that Donovan Mitchell, who signed a 5 year max deal with the jazz two summers ago, he is, quote, unsettled and unnerved, and wondering what this means for the future of the franchise, so interesting stuff there. Yeah, it could be a rocky road ahead for the jazz. Now, to tennis, the French Open wrapped up this weekend with Rafa Nadal proving he is still the king of clay. Even when he can't feel his foot. Yeah, the Spaniard won his 14th French Open and his record 22nd Grand Slam on Sunday, defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud in straight sets. 6 three 6 three 6 O after the match, he revealed that he had needed an injection in his foot to deal with a chronic foot injury. I was able to play during this two weeks with an extreme conditions now. I have been playing with an injections on the nerves to sleep the foot. This is crazy to me, Sarah. I hate sitting on my couch when my foot falls asleep. I can't imagine playing and winning the French Open with one. And if that's not enough, after the match, Nadal revealed that he was also suffering from a stress fracture in his rib. And as for that foot injury, he said on Sunday that he's planning to have a procedure this week that kills the nerves that send pain signals from his foot to his brain. We're going to try that works. I'm going to keep going. If that networks, I'm going to ask to myself about if I am ready to do a measure thing. He's going to ask himself, if he's ready to do a major thing. As in have a major surgery in order to keep playing tennis. So with Wimbledon right around the corner, Nadal's future sounds a bit up in the air. Wimbledon, three weeks from now, so hopefully everything goes well in the interim and we can see him there. Definitely. And on the women's side, the favorite at the start of the tournament proved she was worth all the hype on Saturday the world's number one ego SVN tech defeated American coco golf 6 one 6 three to win her second Grand Slam title in a pick up her 35th consecutive win. And for our last story from the weekend we bring your attention to baseball and my favorite topic, dogs. On Saturday, the New York Post reported that the New York mets star pitcher Max Scherzer was bitten on his throwing hand by his dog. The Internet kind of went wild as the Internet tends to, but tiff I know you're a mets fan, so what exactly happened here? Okay, so Scherzer, who is currently out with an oblique injury, is a big dog lover. He and his wife have four dogs all adopted. Lovely. Love it. And on Saturday, he tweeted that his dog Rafi hurt her leg while on a run. Poor Rafi, I know. But while Scherzer was trying to calm her down, she apparently bit him. Shows her then wrote quote, fortunately, it wasn't a bad bite. I took one day off from throwing and was able to long toss the next day. This will have no effect on my rehab and this is literally a non story. Yes, max, this is a non story, but there is a story, and that is you and Rafi are both okay. And Rafi is a very good girl. So it seems Scherzer will not go down in history alongside some of the strange injury grades like 8th pitcher Jesus luzardo, who fractured his finger while playing video games in 2021, giants pitcher Matt Cain, who sliced his finger on a knife while trying to make a ham and cheese sandwich in 2014 and cubs slugger Sammy Sosa, who once pulled a ligament in his back, from sneezing. Looked if I hate to admit this, but I can really relate to that last one. Me too. All right, that's it for today from wondery, I'm Tiffany osinski. And I'm Sarah kazel. Thanks for listening. "But it is a definite contrast to him being basically calling out harden during that raptors series, saying Philly needs more from him. Well, now they've gotten it, but the question becomes will harden build on it because before that game 5, he was shooting below 40% in the playoffs and making just 32% of his threes. So if harden can keep this up, this team suddenly has a whole lot of ways to beat you with embiid, the beard, Tobias Harris, plus breakout star tyrese maxi, who, by the way, is averaging 22 points himself in this postseason. Well, in the late game, we've got the Mavs and the suns in Phoenix. Similar situation here, where it's tied two two in the home team has won every game so far. And it seems like one big storyline of the series is a superstar who's slumping and that's Chris Paul. Definitely, it's been surreal to see from a guy who's so famously steady, but in game three he had more turnovers, 7 than made field goals, then in game four he had more fouls than points and after that game, he talked about simply trying to stay out of foul trouble moving forward. You know what I mean? I can't put myself in a situation to give them that ability to do that. You know what I mean? So I just got to look at myself and figure out how to be better. The subtext of those comments and you know this if you watch the game is that a couple of the calls against Paul were pretty debatable and you have to expect the just turned 37 year old to bounce back at home where he is averaging 23.2 points per game so far in the playoffs. Speaking of the sun's head coach Monty Williams has been named coach of the year, no surprise. While ESPN's Adrian wojnarowski is reporting that Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić will be named the league MVP, the second consecutive year he is bringing home that award. Yeah, his banged up team got pretty unceremoniously knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, but it's tough to argue with the regular season numbers, which are actually better in some areas than his MVP season last year. And by the way, I can tell you, sixers fans everywhere, including our producer Ian, are not pleased that this award is going to someone other than Joel embiid. Very, very upset tiff. So that's weird. I've never heard Ian complain about anything 6 years related. I know. Well, there was also some sad NBA news on Monday. Adrian Payne a first round pick of the Atlanta Hawks in 2014 has died at the age of 31 after being shot in Orlando. According to the Orange County sheriff's office, the alleged shooter, Lawrence Doherty, remained at the scene of the crime and was arrested on a warrant for first degree murder. A local news report showed images of the seemingly quiet residential area where the shooting took place. No motive for the attack has yet been given. Yeah, and for those who may not remember him, pain played college basketball, Michigan state and helped lead the Spartans to the elite 8 in 2014, the same year he was drafted. He ended up playing for three teams during four years in the NBA and last played for the Orlando Magic who waved him in 2018 after a report from ESPN's outside the lines detailed allegations of sexual assault during his time in Michigan state in 2010. There were reportedly no charges filed in that case. It's also been well documented that during his time in Michigan state, pain became friends with an 8 year old girl who was fighting cancer, Lacey holsworth, who was there to help cut down the net when Michigan state won the Big Ten title in 2014. Yeah, a sad story all around..

And Phil Jackson is involved in the process. And I've had a lot of Lakers fans. Commenting on this, most seem to think this is a bad thing. And I don't know that it is. I'm not going to say it's a positive thing either. Here's the way I see this. So let's say your Genie bus. Your Genie bus and rob pelinka, you're trying to figure out who your new head coach is going to be. That's your goal. You're trying to find a new head coach. You happen to know the greatest coach ever. It just so happened. Just so happens to be that you know the greatest coach ever. And you're looking for a head coach. Wouldn't it be a little bit crazy if you didn't at least call him up and say, hey, Phil Jackson, since I know you, I'm trying to hire a head coach, you're the greatest head coach of all time. When you're hiring, you need indeed. Indeed is the hiring platform where you can attract interview and hire all in one place. Instead of spending hours on multiple job sites searching for candidates with the right skills, indeed a powerful hiring partner that can help you do it all. One of the things I love about indeed is that it makes hiring all in one place so easy because of things like indeed instant.

I will do that. I guarantee you one thing goes through a stroke. Two things you can do in a bedpan? And the other thing is therapy is not for cis. No, I can imagine, well, how you continue to get better and progress and I will. You stay in touch with us. John, Missouri, the corner of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri and so we're looking forward to all the football games this season coming up? Do you think the SEC will take anybody else out of the big 12? And I think Texas and Oklahoma were the limit and that's where it ends. Hey, thank you. You take care of yourself and all the very, very best from us. Charles is up next. How are you doing, Paul? Charles, you recovered from yesterday? Felt like Jim may have rough you up a little bit, Charles. I don't care. I don't pay him no attention, but for all the cars and listeners out there, brag on hand for beating up on the wall one. Watch along with them. You are responsible for what GM is. No, I'm not letting him get away with so much. Do I have to look like a zebra? Do I look like an official here? I imagine you are blind for the way he is. You let him talk to anybody everybody in the same old tone of our mad mad at the world beating people down and watching my with you. Why don't you bar him from your show? Easy ambassador to yourself. Are you choosing me of being doctor Frankenstein here? I don't know what you are. I'm a kid. Letting jam get away with so much over the years, you can't show him. You know he came. He gets way what he wants to get away with. And you and I will stay away. He can do anything. He's not that good at calling the stars. You know what? Charles, you sound jealous of Jim. He dropped a mic, didn't he? Yeah. I think I was right. John is up next. Hello, John. Edison mister Paul 5. Oh, we are doing great. Thank you. Yes, sir, I'm a first time caller. And I just want to take up a gym from tech producer. And I think I know what Charles from little town parliament gave jealous because he's an Alabama fan Alabama ketone going to national championship just about every year. And his team can then go to a national championship. I think you're right. And that's the same as Matt from Texas. At its food and knockout punch. Yes, you did, John, you know it was a TKO. Well, maybe it was a KO, wasn't it? Okay. KO TKO means they would stop it. KO means they just get it. They just get a mop and just clean it up. Hey, thank you for the call. That was very convincing. "Checking in at 330 pounds? Would you be concerned? I would be extremely concerned because I expect you to pick up the slack, put us on your back, carry the team. So if you showed up out of shape and flabby, like Larry Holmes, yeah, be a slight problem. You do seem like a rehab on company time kind of guy that would just play myself into shape over the course of the season. We're obviously talking about Zion Williamson. New reports, if you can call them that showing up to camp, I believe it was at a robust 330 pounds. I have to say though, during the pandemic, I did get above my playing weight. So I am still technically playing myself under shape here. It just gets harder as you get older. Zion's what like 21, maybe this shouldn't be a concern. Who among us during the pandemic has not added a couple here and there, you know? It's true, it's true. All right, on today's docket, we are gonna get into our quarter season where it's a little over the quarter mark of the season, but who cares? We'll just go along with it. So that will be on the back end of the podcast. But first, the news that's sweeping over the land yet again. I feel like we were doing a new Damian Lillard turn in the saga and here we are, Neil osha has been fired after an investigation into the workplace over it over in Portland. And then just bombs dropping all over the place. I think the biggest one from Adrian wojnarowski suggesting that dame is basically been trying to leverage things behind the scenes. He wants an extension on top of the very gaudy extension he already got that would take him, I believe there was age 36 season making the most. I believe of all time. And I think the most interesting part of this was the reaction to this both from dame and people in dame's camp about what a sideswiped this was from Neil O'Shea. So my question to you was, was this type of story inbounds out of bounds? What do you think? It's par for the course for this part of the league, right? Anonymous GM anonymous this. Throw a stone and hide your hand. That's what these cats do on a day to day basis. I will say for dame specifically, when he's wanted to go on the record, he's kind of, you know, Chris Haines has been his Howard Cosell. He's kind of spoken his mind on the record about a myriad of things. And the one thing he's never done is throw Neil osha risk.

"Who else is in there that you got them all. The pelicans are the next one on the last year. But there are a little there like seventeen memphis. You know. Those are side. Sort of teams. On the periphery of being good teams. The miami heat are now in the middle of the pack for nba. chad title. Odds i would have thought after a year ago. Thought that they would be top eight and it feels like they've cooled off a lot. Yes since they made a run to the nba finals there. But you know that's where. You're waiting for tyler hero to step up and be now great and i think that he leveled off a little. Bit duncan robinson is getting paid you got lowery bam out of bio is really good. You got jimmy butler that you re signed so it's a good team. I don't think it's a great team and it still. You know there's still drama left with what happens with ben. Simmons what happens with dame lillard can sixers better. The bucks didn't do much but did they need to do that much. So that's kind of when you start to handicapped this. The box are tied with golden state. I think for a third on that list. Then it's the lakers brooklyn is Tops winning a championship. Yep on. I'm sure it's happened before. But it has a city ever had the two worst it tourist teams in the sport like the thunder. I'm not sorry. The rockets are expected to be by the odds. The worst team in the sport number pick and the houston texans. Right now are the odds to be the worst team in the nfl globe by way. Detroit's in a similar situation he's a pistons or at the bottom of this list and the lions were at the close right up had a houston and the tigers are actually. I don't even know they're really bad to right now and i. I'm guessing that i know that. There's like an occasional miguel cabrera homerun where we all he's got four hundred and ninety nine home runs like okay. Try the tigers still in major league baseball. We and seed and point at before the show the tap. Is it going out of control. They cannot be stopped. Nobody talks about the tampa rays. They want to talk about the red sox and the yankees but the razor once again. You can't name five raise. Probably but that's what's amazing about that organization they somehow cobble together a lineup and the red sox and yankees overspend and tampa still leading the division. But people care about the yankees. The you know the blue bloods yankees and the red sox yama club. I remember when new york and la could just outspent. Everyone and guarantee a title. I miss stays visa tampa. It's got what the box lightning. Yeah and then. Milwaukee wins us. This tampa doesn't overspend saying the small markets are winning titles. Now it's you don't need to spend you can't buy a title. It seems like yeah but we don't look at a small market when it comes to the nfl. It's all like you go boy green bay. It's small market. Yeah but it feels like everybody is sort of unlevel playing field. They're not where you have the haves and a half nods because everybody has to spend a certain amount of money. Yes he may how many markets i don't know maybe it's more common than i'm thinking just because nothing's coming to the top of my head but how many cities have all of their team's win a title in the same year she had a lightning buccaneers race. Have the raise. Yeah yeah. I don't know how many cities can say they've done that. Yes hunt boston. We got your patriots in your bruins and celtics. They must have done quicker than they have probably three championships and i was wondering if you had had four teams there baseball football basketball hockey. I like how you know. It was a couple years since Boston won a title. You can't imagine you know some kid who's like twelve going. Oh my god. We haven't won a title in like forever. Luca danni chick is one of just four players to rename first team all nba twice before turning twenty three. The only one that had happened since the mergers kevin durant the other two rick. Barry max slavsky but kevin durant that getting into the league early getting an opportunity early and being great early. That's what luka was able to do. That's why i got that supermax deal of two hundred seven million dollars johnny and pittsburgh johnny. What's on your mind. Hey dan Six four to twenty. So just back it up work in west virginia and by mortgage down shot up the seat and out to hershey to see my favorite band and doing pretty good. I'm listening to woes give interview and then you guys get done and say not to be confused with low show and i said oh no because avid sports fan former journalist i my entire life this entire time if thought those two individuals for the same guy i thought not kidding bat kidding so i felt the only way to to release might get everyone. I respect that. Johnny and you fit right in on this show. Yeah he's probably not the only person who thinks that. Yeah but thank you. John good for him. Yeah it's not. Nba insider former duke point guard adrian. Working around scared probably game but not like whoa when he was a do not slap the floor when he has a bomb there. Either but luca and oscar are the only two players to average twenty five seven and seven per game. Over there i three. Nba season select company. There and now. I wanna know like what. What is next for luca. Because you don't want to get to that point where we almost got with janas where it's like. Okay you're great during the regular season. Hey you wanna couple. Mvp's when are you going to win a championship. He doesn't have to answer that question anytime soon. This is going to be you. You start to get up there and then fans and media of members they wanna they they wanna go all right now. What's next call all your great player but gonna win. A championship compete for a championship. That'll be the next big pressure for luca and the question is willie had those assets there. I don't think they're winning a championship. The next two years because the lakers are still formidable. I think golden state is going to be really good as well Dallas where were the mavs on that list of Odds that i screwed up. Let me go back to the list. Here do you have that. Make lebanon I i have the mavs at plus three thousand which is sort of right around ten on this list. I have a pull up a new. Oh okay all right. So that's pretty good and where. They've been balanced by the clippers. The last two years. But not. Because luca i just don't think porzingas. He's a great player. I think tim hardaway. Juniors is better than what people think. But they wanted you know. They were trying to get kyle lowry as well and maybe have somebody who handles the ball handling responsibilities. Take a little bit of that off. Lucas played yes. Mclovin surprised by team the clippers being in the top ten with that probably without colli does that mean. The west is wide open or is people are betting on them for reputation. I was surprised that the clippers would be that high. If if he's not gonna play. How good is that roster. Because you still be good. Phoenix is going to be good again. Denver should be good but without jamal. Not great portland will probably be in neutral sacramento blow average the rockets below average..

"Nurture him a little bit here. I think it's just a sign of respect of what he means to that organization that they would come and do it collectively and You know formally present it to them. There was going to be a press conference later today in slovenia. But i think it's just because of who he is what he means to the organization. You know we're not going to Do anything but be bought. Dot com c. It tell you what you mean to us and signed a contract. I wonder and as many people as you talk to can mavs build a championship team around luca and and if so how do you do that well that you certainly can't build one around him. There's no question he is. This is a future. Mvp in the league probably multiple mvp's before he's done Yeah i listen. I think the progress of kristaps porzingis and his health I think mentally. Just i think embracing that role alongside luca how this goes now with jason kidd. Those are going to be really important factors and they traded for porzingas with the idea that this is gonna be legit number. Two co star and health is played a lot of Is that a lot of the factor of why he's not been as effective. That need him to get healthy But certainly they need more. They're not there yet. They've been knocked out in the first round twice. by the clippers But lucas twenty two years old and we can look at the progression of other great players in the league the struggles he went through finally winning it at Twenty six right this year. Yeah so it's not probably next year. It's not the year after. I think we we see how these things evolve you know. It is rare that you're going to win a title with your best player at twenty two twenty three twenty four. Even when it's someone of of the talent of luca. Danni are the lakers done with moves. Well i think certainly significant moves. I think there's still some room to add another veteran minimum player to their roster but but this is largely the team. They'll have and you saw them. Go out and free agency. Because of the west portrayed and trading essentially three for one and that deal losing caruso to the bulls you know they had to fill out their roster and you kinda saw combination of some players who had been there before older. You know they get a couple of four men in carmelo anthony. Trevor rees a Come there. Dwight howard comes back as a as a center for them and a couple of younger guards. Malik monk kendrick nunn comes from Miami so Like when you're the lakers you can get some guys to take that veteran minimum deal. You know who might be might be able to make a little bit more else. Where but you go there on a one year deal. You have a chance to win a championship. you can increase your value. I think that's what a couple of those guys were coming out. What do think the d. league reaction is to what the lakers did. Listen i think. I think the pe- people know that the lakers you know were formidable. Asher year they'll be formidable again. Health is gonna play a big part in this and regardless of the role players around their stars. Lebron james anthony davis yeah listen. Health played a huge part in. Why the team Got knocked out. They lost a very good phoenix team. And who knows. Maybe it full strength. The knicks still wins that series. We won't know but certainly lebron on now. You know you know. Pass that. He'll be thirty seven right in the playoffs next year Anthony davis coming off of a significant injury. Keeping those guys healthy as you saw last year in the postseason and you saw the team's milwaukee for the most part was able to stay healthy. They did lose even so you know. Health played a huge factor. I think when there was just such attrition around the league coming off of in that condensed schedule. And i'm sure that'll be the case the next year but this is an la team especially because of the lebron's age you've gotta go forward every year and they bring in russell westbrook Who listen to is going to bring a lot to that team. They still have to sobriety. Group would shooting. That's not where russ does russia's not going to be a catch and shoot guy When the double teams when when lebron kicks it out russia's still attack the rim and so it's a different dynamic for them. What about dennis schreuder. Who turned down that extension and now there's a report. This morning that may be signed with the celtics could could lakers have done a sign and trade with him to get something in return. They could do one if that interested then they have the ability. I've not sense that's been something For them that because remember somebody else has to want to give something of value. I think teams you know there's teams who can sign schreuder. Probably not not certainly at the number that he could have had with the lakers But i haven't gotten the sense since free agency is really gotten rolling that there's been a lotta sign and trade scenarios again. If the lakers are gonna take somebody on their into tax remember that player's gonna cost them exponentially more because of the tax bill. You got to think that the guy who's contract is probably going to be two or three times. What he makes on your tax bill. Is that worth taking on And so and again teams. Don't i don't think they feel like they've got to give up something of great quality to bring a dennis schreuder. Now they can sign if they have their mid-level exception that taxpayer mid level which is around six million. They can sign up to that. Is there any chance that an owner could just say. I don't care about the tax ramifications. Steve balmer has how many billions and billions of dollars. That like the yankees. They said we don't care what. The luxury tax is kick. Could you see an nba owner going rogue. and just saying. Hey go i'll pay it. I'm well blow through the stop sign. Yeah i mean we've seen it. I mean golden state tax. Bill has been enormous. They brought in kelly oubre last year and his salary. I think he cost them trying to remember. Just u-b-e-r salary was over. I think fifty million dollars when you put the tax that's commitment. That's a lot of money for kelly oubre in a year where you probably you know. You're not gonna win the title without klay thompson last year. listen brooklyn's tax. Bill is going to be enormous. The lakers are gonna be an nc bomber and with clippers once. They resigned coli leonard. So i think teams have gone to piggly in it. You know if you remember broker off in brooklyn early on with the nets. They didn't have success. It was no object to him. So i think we've seen it. You know i guess it's all relative to how astronomical and goes but there comes a point where you're locked in by the cap or you just can't you can't just keep adding big salaries you're essentially The the cap doesn't work necessarily that way. Where you get locked in at certain slots and so you're just paying. You know a ton of tax for guy making three or four or five or six million. That doesn't mean he's a great player and it makes any sense to do. Did you trademark wage. No not that i know of. You should probably do it today. Why something happened. Why don't i. I think you just go with one name like i think. You've you've earned that sting prince. Madonna woge hadn't thought of it in that grouping but But that's something i'll I'll i'll check into this afternoon. Dan okay not this morning but this afternoon you will after lunch in trademark bomb to go on any of these things. Thank thank you watch. That's that'd be well. "Mba go-to guy go to nba guy. And you know if i if i want something for baseball usually evans the guy you sure janis fall guy and i know he's a big net and all those stuff but like the nets have harden irving and durant all under contract for next year. Yeah and then there are player opt-outs for all three players the season after that. That is right now. The nets end up giving each of them one hundred million per year after this is over with or how they sought them with bird rights or their magic rights are what rights are signing trade rights. Or what other. The nba is so confusing. It is very confusing. They'll have to figure that out a full three. Wanna stay on rock. I'm a contract. Is you know you love the khan. And i like to see what guys are making it a listen i. It's great. make whatever you can make. That's the idea. that's that's what we're about. That's what america's about you do something really well two more years though that they player option after next you say this is a year and a half experiment that they did well now. Is it a year and a half experiment. Well it depends if they resign them or not now is ridden. Adrian wojnarowski one thing. That is on the table. That i see that the nets might offer all three of them to try and make sure they stay long term they might offer them one hundred million dollars a year for the next two years not to play just to hang out so that they're healthy to make a run for twenty three twenty four. Yeah that makes me so they would each get probably five hundred million h. Right to not play exchange. Play the next minute. Really take their shot in either. Twenty three twenty four twenty four arrested. They would rest for the next two seasons guys right. Yeah that makes sense. Yeah it seems like on brand for them to have done it before wwl seriousness. Do you have any idea what they could be offered do you now or maybe you're talking. Forty five million a year. Yeah but also how far into the luxury tax. I wanna go. That's the other part of the joe size. Like isn't jeff bezos of taiwan or china or something. Yeah he is. What does he own again. What's his thing. Is it alibaba. Yes that's he's got like a very unassuming twitter account. We don't really see him. He's not to steve cohen of owners in the nba. Bombers probably got to be the most the richest guy right or is it si- size got like thirty thousand twitter followers visit kenner. National businessman says probably not international. Name is a yeah. It's probably a guy that we probably don't even know what his true value is. Let's see you looking at gerry. Joe sign networth. He's got a net worth of eleven billion dollars. Okay and steve bomber there. I've seventy six seventy six years. He's probably a little bit redoubt and just selective seven times. Yeah i mean steve. Cohen look like small potatoes..

"adrian wojnarowski" Discussed on Lakers Nation Podcast

"Our award each game night. We passed this out to the player not named LeBron. Not named Anthony Davidson announced Superstar who we felt step up the most this evening around. Who do you have? Yeah, I mean for me it's a it's a fairly easy Choice. I'm going with Dennis Schroder. I mean 22 points four rebounds seven assists nine of nineteen shooting is an amazing but it's still pretty good. He I mean we we're going to talk about the the stories that came out today, but Lakers pay this man off like I at this point, I'm at the point where I don't even care if it's an overpay just give him money and figure it out later trade him later. If you need to just give young man the money he wants I'm I don't want to play games take my money meme. Yeah twenty two points. I gotta go shooter as well twenty-two points and Kyle kuzma. The chat is getting him some love to Kyle kuzma Jersey definitely a worthy worthy recipient there as well but for for 12 shooting, so I'm going to lean Dennis Schroder 9 4 19 shooting seven assists, but you know what my favorite part of Denis Shooters stat line tonight dead. It's two turnovers. We've been waiting for a game like this from Dennis Schroder because he has been more of a high turnover player four or five turnovers a night hitting that most most of the time I've been calling him and took the Mystic pass or he's a guy who throws passes where he's kind of hoping somebody will pop open but he doesn't know for sure that they're going to and it leads to turnovers and in particular the deadliest of turnovers long ball turnovers, which gets the other team going the other direction and fast-break. So I was happy to see him cut down on those turnovers. So I also go dentist router and let's dive into this story. So Adrian wojnarowski ESPN is on his podcast wage and he says you sheds a little light on the shooter mystery cuz it's been over a month. Now. We're we've been waiting for this extension to show up for Dennis Schroder hasn't been happening in pretty saying what's going on with large says shooter is expecting well over twenty million per season when he hits the market. So if he hits the market and free agency, he's looking for a job. Big number now the Lakers can extend him now and avoid that possibility that he hits the market and some team out there. There's a lot of teams that have cap space offers him a lot of money by trying to do an exchange of right now, but I don't know I mean when you start getting up there and when won't says well over like is Dennis Schroder looking for 25 million a year at what point do you say that's that's that's a little too much even knowing that because they're over the cap. If the Lakers lose Dennis Schroder, they can't replace them. It's not like they suddenly have that money to go spend. So how do you handle this wrong? I mean, I guess your thoughts the side of giving whatever he wants. Well, so right now the Lakers the max they can offer them is like four years eighty five and half million or something like that..

Adrian wojnarowski Dennis Schroder Anthony Davidson Kyle kuzma LeBron 22 points ESPN 12 nine today seven assists Lakers twenty two points twenty-two points tonight each game night 19 two turnovers four years four

"So the NFL is going ahead with its lead year but much of the sports world coming to a grinding halt over the past few days and this isn't a give it a day or two alt this is a buckle in for the long haul hold sources telling ESPN Sunday NBA owners and executives are bracing for the possibility of mid to late June as a best case scenario for the association to return the CDC issuing a recommendation Sunday night that no events or gatherings should include more than fifty people for the next eight weeks the NBA will likely provide projections on three primary scenarios the financial costs of shutting down the season restarting with no fans or playing playoff games with fans organizations have to evaluate the short and long term implications of this season's stoppage including future sponsorships and ticket renewals owners are feeling the sting not just of NBA games but you got contradicts another events that are taking place in those arenas ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski says reality is setting in it has set in and I filed the store that's on ESPN dot com that talks about even since Wednesday's board of governors meeting which just preceded road runner go bears positive test you know that owners and team executives you don't have to have further come to terms with how grave this situation is how dark at the time that our country is likely facing moving forward and that there's not going to be a quick exit out of it and teams are preparing owners are preparing for the idea that it minimally this season may not start until mid June late June and I'm told they are pursuing arena dates you know into late August for the playoffs and even looking at the idea without fans of playing games maybe even in practice facilities that might make it a little give a kind of a little different look for television so everything is on the table with the league right now and there is a great deal of uncertainty about what lies ahead NBA commissioner Adam silver is encouraging the NBA to be open to experimental ideas in every area scheduling format venues television all on how to respond to this unprecedented

Setback for Lakers as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George grabbed by another team

"Paul george was playing at i mean he was a legitimate the shoulder right in and he wasn't the same again he played through tremendous injury a ends you know that team fell off host you know after that injury in in in was a fairly easy out in the playoffs and so i think for i think for paul george like what i think he thought he signed up for didn't feel like it was necessarily there anymore in here with this opportunity unity to come home to come to l i listen he already made a decision once he didn't want to play he could have walked right into the lakers with lebron james and the lakers had been his dream team i think why when he was in san antonio that wednesday expectation was that the lakers were the team and then that change for both of them for whatever reasons anes ohi partners up with with co why he gets the trade out of there an end for san presi so i don't think he was happy be having to do this by that that's what i was gonna ask you what do we know of that conversation like when does it start happening july third july fourth in is it is it is sam presi crestfallen is ramona described him is there any tension between paul george and russell westbrook or is it just a matter of paul george going in saying hey look we've we've hit the wall here i i grew up a clippers fan this is a chance for me to achieve my dreams is there anything we can do here well it was a few days ago whether it was what they is it now it's the seven i dunno more diarrhea saturday saturday amended on the sex that's that's so it's sick so so maybe the second maybe the first or the second they went to do that much time they get this done they went there in an a an ask for the trade end then i was told it wasn't really until the last twenty four thirty six hours so trade happened in the middle of the night on friday night my sense was those talks it maybe started twenty four thirty six hours prior

Washington Wizards guard Jodie Meeks suspended 25 games

"These are all these are gonna be off season questions for the spurs and it's some point co is going to have to answer them i think and i think this has been further complicated by the fact that he's not very communicative he did talk one day maybe once in the last few months after a one of their practices but but then shed much light on anything he doesn't say much publicly and of course that leads to confusion and he's not that much different privately with them agent rousey and the insider an analyst short right here with steven a on espn radio what was let's go to some of these other these the these other news i just read that jodie meeks the washington wizards averaging six points on a year for crying out loud is suspended for twenty five games violating antidrug policy and therefore he's not eligible for the postseason i'm thinking about that i'm also thinking about the fact that some of the dramas surrounded the washington wizards this season with john wall being out etc where did you watch now i'm just talking about as a team collectively as a unit how would you describe how things have gone for them this year and with things are right now yeah we reported the big story this afternoon and he is just twenty five game suspension starts tomorrow he won't make the trip to toronto with the team and obviously this carries into next season he he hasn't had his best season but this is a team that has you know he's averaged fourteen fifteen minutes a game for them and and did give them some depth to the guard position but it's a you know bobby marks made a good point earlier are for office insider you know talking about going through this with cliff robinson when they when he when bobby worked for the nets that even though robinson wasn't a big part of the team it's jarring to a team on the eve of the playoffs to have something like this i mean it throws everybody off a little bit and washington certainly is a team their starting five is better than most it's it's.
