I first one is the first one. So i've so. I like the second one but i right like what into a in a list would be the first one the third one and some days. I think the third one is actually a better film and some days. I think the first one is a better phone. So they're they're they're neck and neck for me. I i've enjoyed where the john trilogy is gone. But i just found. I enjoyed the world building as it went. But there is something about. There was a level of believability in the first one. That just sort of keeps getting amped up as adversaries goes on and when he finally becomes a excommunicated at the end of the third one. I found it to be. I was like so everyone's an assassin who like who works at the grocery store like that was the only thing everybody looking at their phone and then sort of taking a look at john wickets. He's walking out of this. I'm just like okay. Where was that the second third one. The second one right is the second one..

"When i was released. And yeah with Tim burton. It's going to be stylized. In a way that i think will be very like visually interesting and i hope it maintains the tone of the addams family but again. I don't think tim burton is going to stay very far away from that now. I don't think so. Either catherine zeta does have some pretty big shoes to fill. But i think she'll be just fine Obviously with. Angelica houston you know playing mortician the films but This was a good call the casting right. It's almost right out of central casting right. I thought that I thought that catherine zeta-jones was pretty much semi-retired. I hadn't seen in a while. And i figured that she got her oscar and left. But it's good cheese Coming back. i've always been a fan ever since entrapment in the moscow zorro. So yeah so we we picked up. I you know. Ready for More Resident Evil?
"Game from capcom called resident evil village. And i guess you've had a chance to talk to some folks about it right. Yeah exactly this is the eighth flagship title for resident evil and it happens to be on the year where they celebrate their twenty fifth anniversary. So it's a pretty big year for capcom. In for this franchise I played a little bit of it. And i've also got a chance to talk one of the producers behind the game Before we dig into that just a little bit of background so you plays his character's names ethan winters and he was the main character in the last resident evil game we saw which was called resident. Evil seven biohazard Lot of trauma with involving him and his wife. They've recovered The start of resident evil village. He's at his new home with his wife and they have a baby Ethan's home is attacked and then his daughters kidnapped so this sends him on this quest to rescue her now while this happens as he leaves his house to go find her he is you see him starting out kind of walking through the snow at night and then he pops up on this village. That looks like it's from hundreds of years ago but it's also very creepy and And that's kind of where it sets off one of the things that the producer mentioned was this one character who is basically i think her name is lady debt-rescue easy to say seriously and i'm probably butchering it. So i apologize. But long story short she's a villain and she's like a nine foot tall woman so She'd stands out but it was interesting. Because i asked about kind of the influences behind that character and they talk about how angelica houston's portrayal of more tissue addams on the addams family was a big inspiration and then also elizabeth bath three. Who is this hungarian noblewoman. Who is considered one of the most prolific female serial killers in history. So it's a really interesting combination. And they said with the game they wanted to present this diversity and this what they call quote theme park of horror so you have all these different characters that are kind of serve as main figures in the game and so they have kind of different approaches to horror.

dot com he's been hosting late night movie programs of course of the my insomnia which is a cold sensations that started around two thousand one and he has starred as the amazing Chris while in the remake of ed wood's plan nine from outer space you will have fun Mister Lobel when you bring it to us welcome back thank you George you know I mean I love being on coast to coast you know you feel that crackle that magic and then you realize what is that feeling I'm feeling and you know what that feeling is what it's good radio the night hawk magic that were feels I love it well I got to tell you there's nothing like a Friday night with Mister Lobel here talking about some scary movies and things will take calls next hour I have a list of ten scary movies that they have listed and I'm gonna throw them your way you tell me if you've seen them and what you think of our starting with Addams family value yes I have seen that which is the sequel to the Soderbergh's Nestle referred who did the Adams family movie Sandra berry someone shelled regional Adams family that was the sequel and I did see it and I enjoyed it and I think in some ways it's kind of an improvement on the first as you call it a horror film I wouldn't I would say comedy with horror overtones seen on or when the Adams family they weren't really monsters they were just weirdos right or or and and my family's case ordinary people I used to see a lot of these I haven't seen a lot of them now I must be slipping I gotta get back into the cycle of this you know you you probably have a copy of it somewhere you just haven't got to it you know I have a million DVDs in my house in the future right I looked at him up in the long ago okay I can watch that movie anytime I want to not today but I'm gonna watch it if you go to the closet they all fall down about four thousand number two the atomic brain what the heck is that right absolutely yeah this is a great one originally called monstrosity and it's about old spinster and she hires three maids to come to her house because she wants to decide which of their body she wants to put her brain into go on living it's a pretty spooky movie and it's got some it's pretty low budget but it's got some good atmosphere and at one point doctor Frank puts this is a scientist working for the old lady puts a a cat's brain into a woman to test out and so you got a woman acted like a cat and it's it's it's something else number three is an Australian independent film called Bob a Duke Robert do now all of this is critically acclaimed if you've seen this yeah I have seen it all so my gosh it's it's you know the woman and her child abuse you're dealing with the grief of losing the father of the family and then really the monster in it which is a which is a character from a storybook almost sort of a doctor since like guy with a tall hat from a story book it is kind of a symbolic of grief so it's a little warmer allegory ministry horror movie to me it feels like a two hours Olaf commercial but it's you know it's it's very well made and I and and critically quite next line current carnival of souls classic this is about a church organist who somehow find finds herself on the wrong end of a drag race with her friends and she after this she keeps hearing weird music and seeing these schools everywhere and I won't I won't give away the ending but but some something supernatural has happened to her after the show you would rate it way up there too it's one of my all time favorites and people who are organised this is like their secret handshake they all know this movie people who plays the order to play the church organ this is their secret movie that they all watch next one Kerry Kerry of course Brian DePalma is of course Steven king wrote the first since the space act nine hundred classic I mean you know I think it's it's it's the it's the classic freaky teenager with freaky powers who will gets back at the beliefs that's the right one again I've seen this also and that they did a a remake of it I think it was let the wild mornings originally made in another country was like a vampire movie remember reviews a vampire movie and it has a younger cast but then they remade it I like a year or two later as as of for the major release so that enter two versions of it I think I've seen both I think they're both good night of the Living Dead night of the Living Dead George Romero the classic I think it's they wouldn't expect sixty eight so what is that fifty year old do you do two years and it's you know I think it will really before that there were zombie movies were always about Haitian zombies you know was about do stuff like that but now that movie changed it to where zombies were always about the undead raise rising from the grave scream screen is I feel like it's more of a parity of a horror movie but I think he did read traces jumpstart the genre by pointing out all of trite cliches of of all the of all the slasher films of the eighties and and and making them humorous and I I and and infer somehow succeeds in being one itself so yeah I have seen it and and worth worth seeing if you're a slasher movies Sleepy Hollow now I am I am not a fan of this movie night like Tim Burton and I will and I and I love the story of the legend of Sleepy Hollow but I think Disney's version is the version it's burned into my mind with I was a colossal what is IT help on it is and this one is so bleak and so gray and and kind of plays out like a extra dry kind of hammer movie which I like those dry hammer movies but that's not how I imagine the world of Sleepy Hollow and I never ever ever want to see the headless horseman's head headless horseman ahead your fail in did Johnny Depp play Ichabod crane he played it apart crate as a cop Ichabod crane is a school teacher you know yeah I feel like do we need another movie about about detectives I mean can't we have another protagonist other than a cop next one the last one here the thing the last out with this is the Howard hawks version nineteen fifty six original all the original ya Howard hawks the thing based on as of a short story called who goes there I believe and what was really great about that I think was the first movie in which characters have overlapping dialogue so it sounded like this is really happening to them it did did he know it almost like a predecessor predecessor to the found footage movies you know we're kind of has a documentary feel about it bunch of US scientists in the Antarctic who who discovered James Arness as a walking talking carrot that wants to kill them all it was about aliens still wasn't out yeah yeah he was he was he was from outer space but he was right there to take the lead he was a adventure to pull in in origin what is new with Mr lowball much Georgia all because of you when your your coast to coast fans I think I think no I I it's really been pretty incredible I've been getting loose lately I got I signed on with alpha video when they're putting all my old episodes on DVD perfect which are so what oldies dot com they got only only episode night of Living Dead credible souls you know you name and a lot of movies we talked about tonight if you want to see Mr Lobo hosted they're available you don't like just to have been doing a lot of conventions I've got to I mean mention of a CD or hypnosis for hipsters I've got is we are you singing and what is it no it's a self help it took it took thirty of a self help Tyson hipsters hypnosis for hipsters yes I I can you know if you need to start smoking or develop any other bad habits that is the self help CD for you but yeah a lot one of the weird things going on you know and hopefully hopefully Mister Lobo movie I'm I'm writing it right now and we're hoping that the group together yeah how did you get involved in the weird in the macabre you know I think every well I think maybe I'm strange in that way but I think that was I think we're all drawn to the weird in the macabre button and you know I think we like to think that there's something magical around every corner that the guy at the car wash is really a vampire or whatever but you know I think that you know I grew up watching these movies and and loving them and and writing about them and you know it just sort of fell into place where I was working at a TV station they had a an overnight movie that ran twenty five minute short and I was encouraged by my grocery hero growing up Bob will consist of creature features he said you don't get out find get yourself out in front of the camera because some horror movies tonight I forced my way in there and tried it and I I I I I got hooked you know I really like the idea that I get to spend time with these films but also to be able to be creative on a lot of different levels were writing producing performing I make all the phone calls they build props a you know I get I get to do a little bit all of it and and that's the part I like about you doing it all when I was in my twenties working first TV station in Detroit Mister Lobo they used to call me captain bizarre I don't doubt it I used to love the weird little stories and put him on our newscasts and but you know what those were the stories people called us about all the time so rudely absolutely and your passion best thing is your passion for that weirdness was infectious and that's why it worked they wanted to eat they wanted to get those stories from you exactly we're gonna come back we'll talk more with Mister Lobel then we'll take calls with him next hour maybe you could just share with us some of your favorite horror films will be back in a moment on coast to coast a get daily show updates right to your inbox for "addams family" Discussed on The Bechdel Cast
"TB seek during checkout by and we're back back and we're going to get CBS smell oh no I'm going to cut this out leaving important hollowing one of the last things I wanted to bring up is so you touched on this a bit as well but Gomez the character and the actor who place him Raul Julia are Latina cts. There's an article in teen vogue by writer Ella Surround entitled the atoms uh-huh Gomez addams he was the first time I ever saw my own dad reflected back to me on a big screen the prevalence of solid Latinas fathers in pop culture is anchor now for every Jane the Virgin storyline there are also many more stereotypes floating around feeding into the narrative of Machiko and Patriarchy that so many of us trying now to course correct in nineteen ninety one when the first addams family movie I debuted appropriate representation was rarer still no Gomez was not on a realistic father per se. The family pet was a disembodied hand but he was a devoted one the fact and here's another quote from the article the fact that Gomez was played via Latina actor was not lost on me. Either Julia accentuated his Puerto Rican accent and speech patterns in order to heighten the characters theatricality with all due respect to John Astin and Tim Curry who have also played the character all other interpretations of Gomez were aberrations in my mind I understood Gomez to be Latinos like my dad because that is what I knew and he still is now the Oscar Isaac is wasting him in the new animated movie which is why we are covering thing this addams family right now because of the new animated movie that's coming out so I thought that was worth mentioning because as of the little and not good representation generally of Latina characters in media I love the fact that they did Oskar Isaac and I think I can't predict the future but I think that he will stay not ask I wish that they had a live action of him I on this cartoon comas will stay let the next like for the next decade at least is Gomez but my mind I'm like so is Wednesday Latino possibly I don't know I'm GonNa we're gonNA claim her cloak is out right because she's who voices when say instead of Wednesday she's miracle is now Nice the whole time trying to do that joke remembering the song I learned in Spanish class the week loon as mart see Bein was Luna as Martyrs Miracles Yanez fourth one sobbed all the Mingo the days of the week wow I people forget Friday very you said Friday ruinous fairness what's Thursday oh yeah I stray this lettuce soi like let it Miracle Spn as Sabato mingled the days of the week beautiful well cramming for their Spanish final listen to this Kasha save me you're welcome every five Siniora's Martinez can I listen to podcasts while I take this I have so many seventh graders tastier intro to Spanish as our listeners marking point one of the last things I wanted to say was I think it's very cool to see female characters like more tissue and and stay being interested in like dark morbid things because most movies are showing women and girls being interested in things that are like very additionally feminine which is Great but the fact that we only see that and the fact that that's like a societal expectation you know it's whatever but you know I just like to see more tissue and Wednesday they like love death yeah that was something I wanted to bring up as well just because I was trying to research how the how the patients have differed and it seems like this is the adaptation that really like did the most right and actually as we see on this podcast all the time where like adaptations are done lazily or poorly or do a disservice to their female characters this actually does a pretty cool job of reversing some of the more tropy female roles that are present in the TV series Where mortician doesn't really have the same presence and parody in the household as she does in this movie and also because Wednesday is like very morbid and I think various similar to the Christina Ricci character in the original cartoons but in the TV series she was kind of like a little bit and they make her more girly they make her more cutesy and they kind of strip her of those really dark like interests that Christina Ricci character has so I thought that was like a cool positive thing that this movie did was like first of all stay loyal to its source material in a way that like really served it and also dislike let the female characters be like dark and fucked up been cool and not have it be this you know point of contention for the story this was also a time in the ninety s when like riot girl culture was coming up and so I think like having women like rebelling being into more darker things and like grunge and I imagine that that influence a covert and by a female writer Caroline Thompson as covert in with Larry Wilson Caroline Thompson has a pretty like crazy screenwriting record for this era of movies specifically she was in the spooky movie genre Oh yes she co-wrote Edward scissorhands correct the atoms family skirt the secret garden nightmare before Christmas corpse bride like and and the twist welcome to Marlin it's almost like hm hm wonder what's my favorite thing in addams family values is when she's like Debbie you enslaved fester you took them away from us that I can forgive but pastels cakes her out that's my favorite part she's so okay another thing she's an icon for her meam of her sipping tea I've seen so many people use that on twitter the morticians being the TS I love it that's the way to really establish a legacy is to have a good like gift of you sipping tea that means you'll never truly die up Wednesday addams but I really was that was one hundred I want that I want to see her what her life is like now like a spin off yeah we should let's write it out together iconic hell yeah the her mother she talks to Margaret about the finger trap and the charity auction she talks to win stay she talks to Wednesday's teachers we mentioned who is given a name Susan Perkins the talk about Wednesday A lot of the conversation wins between female characters are about like fester if he is an impostor or they're talking about their dad or something like that but there are a few exchanges that definitely pass yeah yeah it's like it's one of those things where you're like it's not as much as it should and I wish I genuinely mhm I thought there I mean the ninety s were so ripe with so much problematic stuff especially comedies which were so about aging down to marginalized peoples the fact that this movie doesn't subscribe to that the most regressive thing probably is more tissue getting dams old and having to be rescued by her husband yeah not like yeah it pretty much in it subverts a lot without making a big show of it like it just I don't know it's it's a fun movie it is and Queer icon cousin it and the thing is well over at it uses their male characters that's pretty great iconic female characters and yet the story isn't really about them it's more focused on the male characters and their relationships you know so I think doc I think it's only like maybe two and a half it's like I hate to give a nipple score right down the middle but that's what I've decided to do here today so I will give one nipped mortician one two Wednesday and I will give my half nipple.

I knew about Wednesday I knew about cousin it like all the hold the hand they've infiltrated our cultural zeitgeist is a cultural osmosis kind of thing yeah but I I was watching and I was like an I thought I'd seen it but I was like wait a minute I've never testing this movie but it was a delight and we're focusing on the first one from ninety one but you know if anyone has any thoughts on the sequel by all means share them so funny because I always forget Gomez is route Julia I always remember all Julia as imb Jason from the street fighter movie the fact that that was his last film that he's found in his life and it's dedicated to them at the end and so you know I listened to the credits and that's all I think of when I was like no he that was a boy better performances him Gomez but for some reason I just see him that was Tuesday for me I was GonNa say the original Gomez also John Astin who shot Aston's dad right yeah I love I love Acting Dynasty Scary makes me mad but I like it allow it I wanted to point out do things just about values out of family values because we're just focused on the first one I do love that both of the movies had female villain I love that in an Hubert their son who's like a tiny Gomez is actually a girl two twin girls the just like they put little baby mustaches on technically they pass a test with drew with their cooing. I didn't know that that's a you know what babies are so in drowsiness it turns out that should I just dive into the looking up a picture of puberty and puberty wow wow trying to see the second one I also read that the second one is supposed to be like the better movie it is funny because going into it I was thinking I was watching the second buzz like oh no the the first one is different because I was like Oh wait this is fake fester fake festival alert yeah the second one was slapped super hard because the camp scene and Wednesday operating native American culture was Super Hot back in the day but then also like making a statement and that we shouldn't like colonizers shouldn't have done not to just like a woke white women with dreads you know do what you also like who are their parents them's Latino and the other is why you know like what is this family like you know Gomez and their spessart and I'm like clearly what is happening here okay let's see next icon yes I'm going to dive into the recap and then we'll go from there so we meet this cookie spooky family the addams family the patriarch if you will is Gomez addams his wife his wife is more tissue that's in Jellico Houston of course oh goodness her mother is granny played by Judith. Molly not to be confused with Alfred Molina although he's a chameleon cut applied the role played literally any character in this film he would have actually been a great fake faster oh totally and then there are two children Wednesday addams Christina Ricci of course Pugsley there's a detached hand called thing that lives with them he's their pet I'm not sure or who knows unclear I don't like a cutler and also yeah but they also have a Butler sometimes you need to butlers and they all live together in this huge the House and they love anything that's dark in Morbid so twenty five years ago Gomez lost his brother Fester and every year the family has done a stay on wants to try to bring him back meanwhile the addams family lawyer Tully Alford played by Dan idea and his wife his wife Margaret they're financially desperate and they're trying to figure out a way to get some of the addams family fortune because they are inexplicably very wealthy MHM the story is like we don't need to explain why couldn't none of them have jobs and go out of the way to remind you that none of them have it's like they're just an independently wealthy scary family Yes so one of Tony's clients Mrs Craven pays him a visit to collect a debt that the owes her and Mrs Crane Son Gordon Christopher Lloyd looks a lot like a photo of the long lost fester addams so the decide to have Gordon pretend to be fester as a way to try to get the atoms money quick question is Mrs Craven that's murder she wrote right no isn't murder she wrote Angela Lansbury then no that's not her runaway roundabout way and we say fester is missing he's like literally missing right he's not he's in the Bermuda Triangle they're saying right yeah we're talking do take one quick second for us to put some respect on the game where you helped the two metal things that would vibrate super hard and then smoke would come out of his mouth Dave and buster's scared me for so long as a child because I thought it was really electrocuting you don't think I can handle all those bolts so the family does their annual seance and Gordon as fester shows up pretending to have been some end by the sands along with Mrs Craven who is pretending to be a German psychologist who is like helping fester the other way that's a hat on the hat she didn't have to do that she just wanted to do some sneaking around she's like I took an Improv class they gotta get some use out of those forty dollar Improv increases the likelihood of them getting caught by a lot right it might even go as far to say the reason they were suspicious was because she was she here she's like practice is this German accent so I have to use it so then fake fester settles into the Adams House but tells the family that he can only stay for week because he has to get back to the Bermuda Triangle Wednesday addams is suspicious of him immediately but everyone else espec- Gomez is delighted to see him and he asks fester for forgiveness for betraying him in their past because there's this whole thing we're Gomez food these twins flora and fauna because he was just super jealous of festers Traum but fester can't seem to remember anything from there childhood like the secret password or the combination to the vault or how to remove this like finger trip thing so now Gomez suspects this man to be in impostor and gets very upset and he's crashing his model trains together love the model train that's like a carryover from the TV series too he's just said so fake fester knows that they are onto him but he still hasn't found the family fortune and then his mom Mrs Craven who is pretending to be the doctor shows up and convinces Gomez that he's experiencing displacement which is why he's angry and thinks festers fraud and everyone believes her so as once again is like is convinced that this guy is his real brother well how are they so rich for the fact that they can get duped so easily astor is bonding with the children Wednesday and Pugsley and he helps them with their performance at the school play and everyone is excited about fester again and he's starting to feel like part of the addams family but his mom is like I'm your family you got to get out of.
"addams family" Discussed on Breaking Character
"This week's episode of breaking character reported from our new home at this. Late in the Benton harbor, our sister. I'm Jeremy von Victoria. I'm Paul Mao. Yes. A little rain here. Little bit little echo. We should just whisper, so anyway. Or maybe should be furniture in your office NTR sweaty balls guys twenty twenty with anyway. Yeah. Well, speaking of theaters are I guess, if have been known to portray, some maybe creepy on stage and in real life, where they're certainly cookie. I don't think we can argue that. But we don't think we're all that species. That's why we invited Martin and windy, go back to the podcast. Talk about them new musical adaptation of the Addams family, which ovens of four weekend run this Friday at the twin city players play house. Thank you guys for coming back. Do so. So people, let's say a certain vintage, like myself are certainly familiar with the classic TV show. And, and the comic firm wish this is based but there's also been if you movies made in the nineties as well as I understand, in new enemy films, coming out the Stober of that family, but, but tell us a little bit about what makes this new musical version so much fun. This one is. This one is taking place, as Wednesday in Pugsley, getting older and Wednesday is secretly engaged big really secretly and taking her to Alaska. Anyway. The pre podcast joke. Bottom line is it pays a wonderful tribute to the television show. It takes some of the aspects of the movies, and it puts it all together in a way that we can make it fresh so that we can have some fun with the characters and kind of suspend some realities without really changing anything that you're going to be looking for. Okay. You're going to see a lot of millier festers. Neither short Moore bold. Okay. Or fissures toll in her suit. And so as long as fester festive needs to do, and he is absolutely every fester. Nice when you see him because David before, but, but, but we, we deviate from the stereotypes often when we direct think enough of your audience is years away from Addis family. They'll come to it with a fresh look. Anyway, absolute. In this presentation really looks at four love stories, okay. Story between Gomez tissue. Of course, you've got the love story, which weaned Wednesday and her new bowl, Lucas, you've got we'll develop into a love story, Lucas parents, the Bina keys Mellon. Alice, find love again through the course of the mayhem that ensues in the Adams house, and then fester, of course, is in love with the moon of all goes. It's faster. That's awesome. Well, it's so it's like Anna Karenina there's lots of different plots. Remember.

"Have you ever been Amancio penitentiary no but I would love to 'cause I've done the haunted house thing like that's kind of cool because it's a lot more open spaces because like like to some of the area then that are just obviously bigger walk through cellblocks up up and Rambo sides so much like Oh. This used to be jail mortgage like more more open anybody PA from anywhere. It's like a lot more area than just like. I'm walking down the hallway. One of my favorite parts when I went through like my girlfriend hates clowns clowns and we get to one part R._G.. Sees a clown and like she goes scared and then he's like welcomed. The clown town and that whole cellblock was nothing clowns. I was just like this is going to be fun. That's amazing yet. I hate dolls and I hate fire but I also respect dolls because they do scare me. Chaikin respect the fact that they actually terrify me so I do like seek out doll related things because I enjoy that they do make freaked out. Okay okay fire. Just fuck off. I don't want anything to do with it could be scary. I like feel like Bernie right now. Don't feel like having blisters also the concept of drowning not here for it ocean in general don't want that once and I'm like yeah not bill salty water like I'm going great can't even go underwater without feeling paint my iceberg now. Thanks all right. We'll start wrap this show off and what we do at the end of the shows for interviews as we have our fave five questions okay which in honor Booker T. Their Sex Booker T. five times seven. This is the faith five questions doc yet you dig it so these are these random all right listen. Just I picked from them. This will probably works for you. Okay addams family or monsters addams family but I do appreciate Lily Monster. Okay this is also I love addams family just like because they're actually like such a wholesome family. Yeah they're like such a great family and the crazy thing is Bo shows wrong like roughly the same time like started like within weeks of each other ended within weeks of each other cre- believe same timeline yeah which is impressive that they were both as successful as they were you think about one would out shadow the other yeah but there I feel like there's no right or wrong answer because it's just like well. Maybe I prefer for universal monsters so go. Monsters are just like well. I like the originality of the addams family I love the romance between Morteza and why blanking on its name Gomez Gomez thank you but even took me a second to come on the spot. I can't do it or even like killing as much I love the monsters like thing and cousin those two individuals. It's just like thing was hand both yeah so there's no right or wrong answering yet understandable question number two. You're you're traveled. You've been many places pretty wealthy and traveled a little bit. Sheets are Wa wa sheets hands down. Yes a Wa Wa might have better coffee okay but as for food sheets Bob. I actually didn't realize that this wasn't just Pittsburgh thing until I started coming to Cleveland fairly often but get-go has produced get-go has really good food understatement like I like sheets is probably like that's my go-to but Gecko is like a pretty solid side bitch like Gecko is a good lakeside. Ho For me. It's it's Geckos number one but people just hold what side you want sheets Wa wa. I say GECKO and they're like but I know there's a bunch of other third options around the COP. Genuinely thought go is just let because I thought like Johnny English just hits Berg thing. I didn't know that like got it for years with Johnny. Go you know that like get go was out of like the the General Pittsburgh area so it blew my mind. There's Geckos Yer. I can get their popcorn orange chicken. The bill that is I didn't realize until last year when we started talking about a lot more the fanfare for that was more than just like I mentioned it and it was like you like the report you like cult favorite. It's I think are we've talked about this like it was some other fans is like they should have come Christmas in July have like Thanksgiving in June mad mex which is a local like sorta chain Mexican restaurant. They have the gobble reto which is like the Burrito version of that. Do I think in like the half year point between Thanksgiving they for like a day have Laredo detri- that it's good it's good. I like that you can also get in like Bo form so k. can just like eat it all in bowl yeah. I need to try question number three three when you're sleeping. Do you have your door open or closed closed. I can't have my door open. I can't have my closet door open. Nothing can be open. Okay inset something. I've talked about this. Where I've I've always been enclosed but then I know people that are like had an open and I'm like yet what you said how my dad is like that and it makes me uncomfortable? I one not just then that someone's just like chilling. They're looking at you for me. It's not even that is just like I I want. I WANNA sleep so I want the door. Close like outside light can get in to. I feel like it's some sort of like hibernation like put you okay okay face alone and then I feel like if someone comes through the door like that will get me but if it's already open like you know you can walk in yet. I'd like wake up. Maybe if you open the door. If you just like kind of creep in with the door already open you say with the closet because I used to like here you're not liquor but although stories that like people living in people's addicts like homeless people that live in people's addicts and do just never know I have to keep my closet door closed because I'm convinced that like this might be the day that's Owens in my attic or question number. Four is a new one that I've been trying out all right rank the fast food chicken nuggets between McDonald's Burger King and Wendy's McDonald's Wendy's Burger King because I'm waiting for for the person to give me why Burger King should be one or two and why one of the other two is three. I like out chick-fil-a as an option because like chick fil A.'s grilled chicken nuggets are pretty cool. I also they have really good sauce sauce. I think the reason why don't use them because like McDonald's Burger King and Wendy's or like the three traditional fast food burgers like the their menus are this similar to the same but like their own different variations nations and obviously I to me like you said Donaldson right yet to me. That's number one. It depends how you feel. Sometimes you're just in the mood for Wendy's chicken nuggets. They scorn me last time dirty eighty but it was because I hadn't gotten nuggets awhile like one of my favorite dipping sauces and I had a craving for it and I tried Wendy's I is honey. Yes I went to when they like when they I had the nuggets in for many years. They always had honey so I went up or do they have this doug. It gets a little honey honey mustard just on we don't have that. I'm like what do you mean since when win ever put honey on pizza no big thing when I lived in Colorado never heard of it until I tried it and I was like I don't dislike this. Try that it's not it's better on leftover pizza. I the thing that I used to do when I was in school. Always with Pizza Day was applesauce and I would take the pizza independent applesauce really good interesting. Yes I have not done at sense because it was like Oh like I'll order the pizza. I want to be applesauce pain college kid and then you're like I can't do this outside but interesting think with Papa John's pizza we get the garlic sauce. I get one. I put garlic sauce in the applesauce in dip it in all sounds terrifying but I'll trust your word and maybe try it because I also enjoy garlic. looks also live with question number five best physical portrayal of the joker oh loud definitely probably heath ledger garth big fans that big i always constantly put over how much i love danny devito is the penguin so whenever i think the batman movies on what it man danubio penguin i haven't rewatch that while i don't really need to my girlfriend's a huge <unk> tim burton written yet has never seen those batman movies they're like i love them yeah i love them so much danny devito us the penguin is like my favorite thing dean to revisit that but an giant rubber duck oh yeah the best i think because i think of all like the toys and everything that time to the that's why right fell in love with batman was was batman returns and then like i think that's roughly the time the animated series kicked off so it was just so many memories of that the fbi i agree ledgers just amazing unbeatable the when i watch him in those movies or that movie i times i don't look at them like oh that's heath ledger i go the joker yeah there's only a couple times where like the lights on just is right in the makeup wearing offer like okay i can see heath ledger but the rest of that is just the joke and that's a complimentary oh for sure incredible are a question number six which i taylor around my guest and for you sometimes i don't know what i'm going to ask but something trigger me in the middle that's okay for you if you had to your option to do ghost hunting at any place in the united states or the world what would it be in live obviously i don't don't have a specific but what i don't know if i'd wanna like ghost hunt there i don't i honestly feel like it would be kind of lackluster i want to do a little seaboard house i just kinda wanna go okay i'd i'd love to do an abandoned amusement park just because i think that would be yeah crazy because there's a lot of like i think it'll be a lot of fun doing abandoned amusement park for me it would either a. b. the white house that would be cold <music> because there's there's like go i fell in love with a lot of the ghost stories of the white house that's crazy life you ever think about it until you're like us on their like <hes> one gosar i remember reading when i was a kid that one of the gardens this was planted by dolley madison and some president years upon years decades centuries our center so later wanted the the wife wanted moved and like the ghost dolley madison appeared and told the worker to stop yeah and there's another like eight the abraham lincoln's the other side of that is if i do the white house i would do theater force theater yeah blamed on i'm like it's a ford's theatre sort of guessing but yeah ford's theatre just like that and also senior where he he's like died on the cross the street like abandoned eater would be super cool to do to the guy thing for me it would be like an abandoned amusement park not like i think there would be like crazy amounts of ghosts they're just because i think.

So fond our second installment now that. Am I right? That used to be the average celebrity game. We used to call it the average celebrity game. And there was no interest in it whatsoever. But now we've called it the big huge giant super celebrity game. And people love it, and they have to identify the mystery celebrity. Well, it's too celebrities combined into one sample question. Right. This is from last time we played not only did I play Gomez in the movie versions of the Addams family. But I've also won an EMMY award for my work on Seinfeld, veep and the new adventures of old Christine. So it's super it's it's to celebrities merged combined. It's Royal Kramer, your close Torralba. Julia Louis Dreyfuss oh. So close. Yeah. You're very close. Kramer was not in. That tip would help us Creamer incorrectly. Earlier this week. You were talking about just showing up at a job until I'm even though you were fired. And he said just like, Kramer, George Kramer. Didn't know you're right. It was George. I didn't correct him at the head. Let's correct. That's a game we play into warning. Let's correct me. Give it different one. See how you doing? This was Kramer on Seinfeld. K? Is it Kramer? Yes. Are you sure there were two episodes? I remember Kramer getting fired from a job. He didn't have in continuing to show up. Anyway, that was George. Wasn't Allen's fault. But it was a lot of fun to do. As a matter of fact, I met some friendly writers on that show. And one of them's still a friend. Good married to my Representative. Oh, okay. Abby wrestlers long gone. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I gotta say John we've done about two hundred and thirty of these everybody from Carl Reiner to Bruce Dern to Peter Bogdanovich. Take fan Dayak Van Dyke was here. Norman Lear was here. Buck henry. Oh, I know, you know. Yeah. And this one was particularly satisfying because we chased you down for so long. Well, you know, interesting. I I'm thinking about this. You talked about the. The fact that a lot of people wanted me to come on the show people you'd heard from. Yeah. And unless you were just driving not at all. But okay. I've got ice told MacKenzie. I've got I've got fifty seven pages of Facebook posts from people who wanted you to come on the show, which is which is about four hundred people that wrote about you specifically which I sent to your office. I'm sorry. If you didn't get it. Oh, I'll send you. I'll send it again. Outpouring of love. But there's something about the myriad reruns of the Addams family. "So actress Christina Ricci has been a star since she was nine years old, but she claims trying to make your kid famous as child abuse, quote, unquote. She had a four shows a four year old son. And she said that he can decide if he wants to act when he becomes an adult. So, you know, and she also says that she enjoyed all of those years being, you know, the little Queen and everybody loves you it cetera. But I wonder about how good an idea this is for child. What do you think? I don't know that I would I decided never to do anything like that. I just think the the the pressure said your children, they mentioned it, and I kind of shut that down. I don't know. You know, I I don't mind them taking theater classes, they both play to instruments. I'm really I think it's wonderful to play instruments. I think theater is a wonderful outlet. I think it gives you a lot of confidence. They've they both done plays. But I just think doing it commercially. You know, you have to deal with the rejection, and your objectified so much. I think if they ever decided to do it as adults I would be fine with it. But she'll trial to actually ask the parent and says I want to be famous or does the parent basically pushed the kid into it? And I don't wanna more fame. Those more now than they used to because of all the stars. We've seen on YouTube, and they see how easy it is at a young age and reality TV, I've actually heard more and more from like, my friends and their kids that are getting to a nature they understand like I'm going to be famous too. And that's and they see how easy it is to obtain the issue that I've seen with some child actors like Michael Jordan, we've had on the show someone that. A good example. But it's went everywhere with him, and it was a big influence on. But there there aren't enough examples for me to say, they started really young famous. I've seen so many families take advantage of the kid being famous, and and that worries me I grew up doing musical theater, but my husband, and I we say to each other. If our daughter wants to to act, what do we do? I think you want to let them express themselves. But I think we'd be really cautious to in today's environment until they're me nervous. Yeah. What do you think? I don't know. I don't really know any kid actors, and I don't know any actors, but they get all depends on the parent and the situation and the set I guess you'd have to be I try not to judge other people's experiences, but Christina Ricci was a really famous tr-. I remember from casper the friendly ghost and the Addams family. So you know, I mean, she went through it. So I'll take our word for for. Adults to take rejection and criticism and jealousy. So you can imagine how uninformed you're just an unformed person in many ways when you're a child having reached adulthood, even in your twenties. Horns at the soccer games, you know, on the sidelines and not just that you'd drives you nuts with mental of the game. Then the kid is we'll know all the big that's one thing..

There's something about a spider. That's terrifying. Why? What if I was like, I was ritualistically abused by spiders. Well that. A reason. You know, what I will say this my sister who I- door. She also did not like spiders. And I wonder if it's yes, do I think that might as my wife's mother was terrified of snakes, and she's terrified my mom had a relative and older relative who told her don't you pass your fear of insects onto your kids? And she didn't. Oh, yeah. It my brother, and I are both like lily. Let's like. Pride. Unnatural pride may be in being like I'm gonna handle this be or like right like this liquor. Like, you know, whatever we we didn't. Be took pride in it. Because other kids were shocked by like our love of of creepy things. So it never did. You have a lot of snakes and a lot of spiders in your home. Did the snake ever get out? Oh, all the time. Did this make the snakes were getting out all the time? Oh, the time. Did you ever just fall asleep and go Matt Nick might get out tonight and strangle me no now because it's love me. Yeah. You say that now. Oh, yeah. No, no. That's Nick, the remote snakes left me. God would take them for blocks. First of all, I'm just picturing a ferret a snake in spider and walk down the neighbor that couple of full on the Addams family. We we had we had scorpions. We had we had. We had a ten foot boa constrictor. We had so many snakes these beautiful green in the garage smelled like nothing, you could imagine. Like, imagine, what did you feed those a catacomb circa time, you let's do I don't know. Eight ninety BC. Okay. I got the head on it. Got a cat hasn't. Come yet. Got it. And. And to know. And let's say the catacomb workers are getting a little Schertel sloppy. Sure. Sure. Yeah. So who good lighting that you have zoo? All the good air conditioning stuff, the fragrances leg I wanna linger. Yeah. That was our garage. And you had to pick up all that droppings and poop and all that stuff. Yeah. Oh god. That's a lot man. But but it was so good for me because I have such an appreciation for for. I mean, do you have snakes spiders in your home today? She has like the best insect collection. Now, the deal vacant when she didn't actress dated actress. What I didn't actress. Yeah. I did an actress. Would you date? Well, would you date a actor who's in theater? "And know that we probably wouldn't go there again because of various you. It's okay. It was great. But it was really fun time. So you're gonna hear our conversation. Failing pop culture, I'm going to say this in this might affect like a percent of the audience for some reason, you've weird feelings about incest. Weirdly, there's a lot of that conversation about you were saying that I have weird feelings. No. I don't have weird feelings which the problem as you'll hear Jimmy has very clear boundaries about incest and not my thought that I read flowers in the attic when I was so young. Yeah. So like if you if you're the kind of person like I don't really wanna hear that diet. Only get that that we didn't intentionally go heavy on that Belichick. Look the stakes are high the jokes get extreme in these live shows. So that comes up a couple of times, but we talk about bad family members that weekly wanna be related to we talk about. I don't really remember. We we talk about the mouse sucks. More family members. It's really fun conversation about family. So yes. So is it really a time. So you're listening to that we're going to break for couple of ads and then we'll catch on the back end with their lights for this week. All right. So charlotte. We're here. We're trying to figure out what's talk about you guys. Like, what makes sense for Charlotte? What's at home here in Charlotte? And we're thinking about last year where are you going to always say, Charlotte, Charlotte? That's how you pronounce it this good when we doing shows last summer, we kind of figured out the structure here, North Carolina. So we think of you guys like fondly, and we've got two guests who have been at our live shows before we consider them family. So we thought let's talk about family and pop culture. Let's do that. Let's us family as an originating structure in popular culture. Okay. So TV is obviously the most popular place you'll see family as a trope. It's classic for so many sitcoms really starting with leave it to beaver from nineteen fifty seven. So you had this kind of iconic suburban family you had and you had ward and you had Wally and you had the weirdly named beaver. No wonder in retrospect things like wrong, but I Connie aged well next you have the Addams family. Okay. So the Addams family is just a super chill monster family, not a big deal, and it was actually on TV. I don't know if you guys know this. It was the first Goth family to be outfitted by hot topic on TV. So. Well, impressed. We move onto the Brady by the Brady bench. Right. They were this. I most famous blended family now hundred sixty nine was not ready for divorce so their spouses, we're just dead. But you know, what nineteen sixty nine was ready for. I don't think I'm gonna like it the oldest son being attracted to the woman playing his mom, very sexy onset. So no, two leader rear listeners listening to this later. That's the first casual incest riff. We just got if you're here you wanna drink every time, we get incest. Ref you go for it. You'll die like. Very along night, y'all. Hey, that's your journey. Go for it. That's right. The next family is the huxtable family. Tough one telephone. Get that one. You know, it's fine. You understand what we're doing? But then time before it, right? We have sixty years later. It's just everyone's quiet. Everyone's like, they're like we talk about them. Six years later, you get after leave it to be we get finally like TV decided, you know, what I think there are families that are not super white. We should talk about them. So one of the first we get if what's on now on my favorite shows fresh off the boat. You get this Taiwanese family who's moved from DC to Florida open up a cowboy themed steak restaurant as you do as one does -absolutely. And then you've also probably mutual green light. One of our favorites is the Johnson family from blackish really great TV show. So from the perspective of Dray Johnson his struggles.

"I think is the name of it and all of the toys and shirts, and he posters and got out and pinball machines. I mean that was brilliant like such a move to make in the in the nineties like who is thinking about that kind of stuff, you know, for her to be like, I want to sell the image of Vira, you know, gyms Halloween, costumes wigs makeup lines. I mean, like, brilliant brilliant. So I mean, it makes sense. I guess that does now that with that knowledge. It makes sense. Like, why do not really have memories of show? Like, I've Egli remember of our mistress of the dark, but I only have ever seen it all the way through maybe just like clips here and there, but it was just yes, she is just again when we think of nineties, and she is Connick JR. Iconic. Yeah. But I never really understood. Why? Yeah. I mean, you know, there's just she's she's long person in. Line of that prototype. You know, okay, I'm in. So like it began with Charles Adams. He was the guy who created the Addams family, or there was an unnamed character who was the matriarch of the home. She had long black hair. And she were this tight little dress. She had it was not before more tissue. Yes. So she was unnamed for the beginning when Chelsea Adams was first coming out in the worker, he made these little comic strips. She didn't have a name the name came at the TV show when the Addams family television TV show. I know it. No, you're blown to mind. It was give me some horror history on it was Charles Adams had a comic strip in the New York Times. And it was this little gothic family. Do these little creepy gothic things the opposite of family circle. Yeah. That was the whole joke. They would do things that were just like just a complete one eighty of the societal norms. You know, and that was the humor of them that they were this. Creepy subversive family. Okay. That got made into a television show where then everybody got names, including more tissue atoms whose look was kind of perfected, you know, then vamp era had a TV show. And was like this Mellon Nurmi. I think is how you pronounce her name. She these high arched eyebrows. I was thinking of Perella, but vamp your vamp era. Yes. She was the first one who appeared on television. She this little tiny little ways. She would always she looked like that twenty four seven long black nails lack lipstick. She had a television show for two years. Okay. Right. Then you had all these kind of off shoots. You had all these van van Parrella? You'd all these other that kind of that prototype of like pale curvy tight waste, you know. Sexy. Crypt kind of woman, then you had a Vira who kind of turned that. Into a humor thing because again, similar to crypt keeper. It was. I remember more jokes. Yeah. Then being scared right because Cassandra Peters who plays Elvira. She is a stand up comedian. So she started as a stand up, and so she was bringing her stand up live performance work in as Elvira. And then so then that whole thing kind of spawned. I mean, if you can imagine like, I I am not Elvira whatsoever. Like she and I do not look the same. Spoiler alert for your listening. I am very black obviously and Kirby. And so like that the kind of pale gaunt thin kind of person I never really even though I related to her personality and her on how funny she was. I never looked at her. And was like that's going to be me because it was never going to happen. So, but I wanted to take my my personality and turn that into something that made sense in that that whole sorta John rea-. So I was trying to find just reached over. Yeah. Because in the Soviet Parrella comic books like she was kind of that. I mean, her costume is very unpracticed. It is stre- read. It's like a borat situation remote within like from that. Then you have like purgatory. So I mean the late in the nineties it was. Just yeah. Yeah. They were and they were everywhere. Yeah. The like, rob life L men..
