"There's a bombshell report out about Thie en Bas association with China and ESPN report detailing an atmosphere that one former employee compared to a World war to Germany for athletes at the NBA's academies in China. American coaches telling league officials there. Chinese partners were physically abusing players in the youth development programs, notably those who are weaker Muslims taking part in the academy establishing Xinjiang, a police state in western China. We're more than a 1,000,000 weak or Muslims are now being held in barbed wire camps. In addition, coaches raised red flags about failure by Chinese officials to offer proper educational opportunities. Philadelphia 76ers to resume NBA season against Indiana Pacers on Aug. 1 in Orlando

"Tonight at seven PM eastern standard time a little under three hours ago the N. B. A. restart schedule was released by the league your Philadelphia seventy Sixers will begin their run on August the first facing the Indiana Pacers a seven PM game also when I give the times they are all eastern standard time as the games are in Orlando at the wide world of sports in Disney world I'm a couple of you know the little detailed information that I can give you which is wonderful our first and foremost to my understanding in the in the doubles individuals that I have spoken to no player on the seventy Sixers tested positive in the Copa nineteen tests if something changes obviously all Bob either call in the W. I. P. or from all that time will work I'll I'll put out on social media so that's great news other good news we know that July the ninth the Sixers will be flying down or the other that is their day to fly down to get set up at the grand Floridian hotel and you know get everything set up for practice in the very unique schedule they're going to have the eight game regular season or I should say he came to close out the regular season and then to alter the determine the seeding for the playoffs if you want good news the seventy Sixers have the second easiest schedule of the twenty two teams you know they start out with India which isn't an easy task but then they have the spurs the wizards the magic the trailblazers the sons the raptors and they closed it out with Houston the times do vary the first game they have on August the first is at seven PM then it goes to eight PM four PM six thirty six thirty four thirty six thirty in the final game the time has yet to be determined now if you are in dire need for live sports that are not golf for MMA or NASCAR boy you're gonna be in heaven with what the NBA has set up I now picture this be getting R. D. it's really gonna be the beginning August first there are games on the thirtieth and thirty first but beginning August first there will be every single day we held hours of games starting around either twelve thirty or one in the afternoon going all the way till twelve thirty A. M. or one AM every single day until they get to the second round of the NBA playoffs so you're gonna go from zero to a hundred miles per hour so you'll certainly finally get some type of fix and I know we all know right now down in Florida the positive tests of covert nineteen are just astronomical they're setting new records every single day and it's terrifying because there's more ons out there who are feeling of refusing to wear masks like a parks and rec episode I'm but I would but Adam silver in a conference call with many many people today said many things all one huge take away for me which sticks out more than any other of course the other they're planning for players to test positive they have everything set up if multiple players in the same team test positive them all that we're gonna have a problem but he did say it is happening you know whether they finish is another story but it is happening he I'm trying to find the exact quote that that that he had laid out there well here it is we're coming back because sports matter in our society are they bring people together when they need it the most and that was how he closed out something that he was saying basically saying we are going to give it a go we are going to get off the ground you're going to take off with the question of whether we will we will be able to land which we hope I will

NBA players reportedly asked to weigh in on restart as majority want to resume season when safe

"It looks like I think if you're looking at this the same way that I that we're getting a little bit closer to NBA basketball that. Yesterday we saw a group of prominent. Nba players expressed their desire to restart the season to complete this season. The crowd a champion and I think this is an important step because Adam silver has been very cautious for lack of a better word that he's been said let's figure out exactly what the scientists let's figure out what these communities are doing this figure out. What the testing looks like? And then we'll get with our players and move forward but after the call that they had at the end of last week and after hearing the players say that they want to go back to work and crime this champion. I think we're closer. To getting a reboot of the NBA season than we have been at any point since this pandemic start. That's good. I mean that is so good. I like when the players get together and they have conversations about restored in the NBA and what it is and how to stay safe and all of the things because they're proactive at doing it. They're showing that they're committed to doing it. They want to be a part of players lining up and saying no no no no on the heels of shack saying they should just council the season she said a couple of days ago she council. Airbus none of get on the call. We don't WanNa start sending that negative message Duty Airways we don't even want that in the universe in that is good man. I wish the NFL. A New Path to the NBA: Woj on the G League's Program

"Woge? It has now been three weeks since number. One ranked high school recruit Jalen Green announced on instagram. That he'd be passing on numerous college offers to instead. Become part of the new improved G. League professional pathway program. That's what it's called Q. Explain what it is and how it began Meena. It's it's really a bridge between the end of the wounded done era in college basketball in the NBA and what had existed which was really limited options for an elite high school player to do anything but go to college basketball. They put this program place. Two years ago and they started off with players they fell would be first. Round picks were highly regarded coming out of high school. One hundred twenty five thousand dollars a year would be assigned to League team and then you would enter the following years draft. They could not get anybody in that. I really year year and a half to commit to that program. A couple reasons. I think even more than the money agents and those who would advise high school players advised against the idea of going to the G. League where it seven. Let's say eighteen years old. You're going to be playing against grown men in there who played college who played overseas who've been in the NBA back and forth maybe mid twenties late twenties and they would hurt your intentionally hurt your draft stock where you be physically overmatched. It is a difficult lifestyle especially for young person. It's not charter. Flights it's not four seasons and Ritz. Carlton's it's the southwest flight connecting it midway Chicago to get the Iowa City. Adam silver was very moved by the fact that Lamelo Ball in R J Hampton to the top players in this two thousand twenty draft when to Australia next year take my talents to the NBA. Laura Hawks next year I will be going overseas to play an Australian basketball even with the New Zealand. Breaking choke deals in that five hundred thousand dollar a year range and there was not really an option for them. Here there are things we should be doing differently. So that for an American player who decides college isn't for me and I want to spend fulltime devoted to the game of basketball. That's my best chance to be in the NBA. There should be an alternative opportunity in the US spurred silver to push ref- Abderrahim. Who is the president of the G. League she and Rod Strickland Former all-star Mba guard who also works for the G. League in the NBA as part of this program? They've been out in the field. They've been out talking the families players and coaches and they certainly explained to Adam silver. We've got to change this program. So they updated this program specifically for players like Jalen Green. What exactly does it look like now. This is essentially a select team that will be comprised of the players coming out of high school and then veteran players who might otherwise be in the G. League who would get paid comparable salary to come play here. Play a mentor. Ship role to these players. Perhaps players on the back end of their career might like to who might have an I- already on coaching or working in a fraud office will working for the League and also realize that. There's going to be a great deal of scouting attention paid to this group of players. Nba and that. This might not be a bad place for them to still be seen as viable players right now. So that's the makeup of a roster. The coaches will be coaches that people have heard of with NBA coaching experience. Some of them former head coaches and they'll play a schedule that will include G. League teams but not a fulltime jelly schedule. So they'll play perhaps exhibitions against G. League teams. They might play national teams. Who might be touring from different countries? Different parts of the year. I was told they might go to Australia. Where there's an NBA Academy maybe play some Exhibition Games? There and stay there for awhile and train and move around and now the program became more appealing for the top level player. And you've seen now if you players make that leap when you say. It's more appealing in the financial. Incentives are better. How much better we talking? Well Jalen Greens deal with the G. League is around. Five hundred thousand dollars that includes incentives. I'm told that there's a base salary and then there's incentives for essentially just completing. Maybe it's a community service program or a life skills program things that are part of it that they disincentivize financially now. Every player is not going to get five hundred thousand dollars. Jalen green was a number one player in his class. And if you listen to John Devonian Mike. Schmitz are dropping analysts. And I listen to those guys. They tell me that he would have competed to be the number one. Pick in this coming draft and right now he's you know projected to be that in the two thousand twenty one draft so there was. I think a great credibility for the NBA The G. League to get a player that caliber come into this program that he might be a little bit of a Pied Piper for others but they're not going to pay all these guys five hundred thousand some of them the pay more than the one twenty five but they're really negotiating that and remember that. Those players inside endorsement deals. If there's somebody who wants to pay them to wear shoes jailing green again is is a player who see your companies have great interested Not all the players are going to get big endorsement deals and then there is a component that they will go back. There's a partnership with Arizona State and with the NBA. And you could go back and get your degree hate for by the League later on at some point and so those are the benefits of this for players who decide. They don't want to go to college or meetings. In some instances where players become eligible and can't go play college basketball. You mentioned that players. Who Do this can also get endorsement deals? Which at the same time this is happening the NC Double A. Just came out and said were exploring the idea of letting our college players also have endorsements with of course many caveats and limitations this being the NCW TC. All of this is being connected while the shaves but exploring for quite a long time. They always seem to sort of stay in exploration mode. And when you start to dig down into the fine print of what they talk about doing. It isn't what maybe the headline was of of trust. Release or a report about it. I will say this being a part of the. Nba's thinking was that they were reacting. I think a little bit to the Condoleeza Rice commission slash report which a couple years ago essentially said the NBA should do away with one and done. We must separate the college track from the professional track by ending one and done the NCAA stance was that the players who do not want to be in college. There should be an avenue for them to bypass college and that we should take them in here if they don't want be here and so the NCAA on one level has encouraged this of the NBA. Now part of the problem is the NBA and the Players Association. They have not been able to agree on the terms of ending one and done we call on the NBA and the N. Bpa power here to once again make eighteen year old eligible for the NBA draft so that high school players who were drafted may proceed directly to the NBA in theory. Both of them both sides the union. The League would like to end one and done. There was a sense that that this would have gotten done last year. But there are terms of an agreement that they can't come to to end it. And this may be shelved now all the way until the next collective bargaining agreement two thousand twenty four twenty five so for the NCAA right now like this is what they asked for and whether or not they loosen the ability for players to earn money in college or off lightness or however that happens then. I think that will impact this. But let's I still think there's going to be a lot of players who would rather go to college because by the way meaner if you WANNA get paid. There are plenty of places in college basketball that you can go and make money equivalent to what the Julius paying. And that's that's just a fact you're referring of course to the fact that it's an open secret that college kids get paid under the table. Me Knock. I've broken a few stories along the way. I don't think I'M BREAKING MATT. One of your with you right now.

"adam silver" Discussed on Mason & Ireland

"Okay if you're just tuning in and you just have been completely unplugged from the world We will let you know that the NBA season has been frozen in its tracks now the the NHL. The Major League baseball the NCAA tournament March madness has been cancelled. And Yeah it is a It is a strange time to be alive yet right so I mentioned that Kevin Love You. You told the story earlier in the show that Kevin Love had come out and donated one hundred thousand dollars to the Cleveland Arena. Worried because he realized if there's not GONNA be any games for month all these people get paid game to game sure are gonNA have no income and so the cavs. His team and I was thinking this would happen. Just tweeted this. Thank you Kevin love for coming through in the clutch. We're behind you as we also announced today that we are compensating. All of our fieldhouse hourly event staff team members as if every game and every event is still taking place which is great. Yeah I hope more teams do that because some of these guys and I I see him every game. Some of these guys are going paycheck to paycheck and they can't go a month or two months without a paycheck. I mean I'm thinking about everybody in the service I just story in the La Times will the will the nightclub scene in La Survive? Think about that. But what about Your Business and I obviously hitter theater business and any service industry? I'm thinking about bartenders waiters and waitresses and ushers in sales people in all that stuff I mean. Are they used to work for a while? you like to make fun of me rightfully so. I kind of deserve it. For My love of going to Broadway shows way John. Okay right so broad went completely dark Max out all the answers all the concession workers all the security people all the performers all night. Hamilton was opening at the pain. Teijin L. A. We've been waiting for Hamilton. Come BACK TO L. A. And Nothing. They cancelled it now. So there's GonNa be a dance here where people figure out where their income is gonNA come from what they're gonNA do with their time The L. A. U. S. D. By by the way has made no decision about whether to make any moves in terms of closure. But we can tell you that the Santa Monica and Malibu schools will be closed for two days for cleaning after a corona virus exposure. They say a community member with children in our schools tested positive. So the superintendent says Santa Monica Malibu. Schools closed for two days for deep cleaning deep cleaning. Probably exactly what it sounds like I think it is. I think it is on the same note that you were talking about with like the you know how this impacts people financially in Italy. A LOT OF THE BANKS. I think most of the banks have suspended mortgages and I think it's one of the same with the lecture companies stuff like utilities. I think it's one of those things where we could end up in a situation like that because everyone's just Kinda Kinda have to chip in and help everybody out because this is obviously something completely unprecedented and people were trying to get by By THE WAY Steve. Assume you're going back and forth with somebody talking about what's ESPN TV. GonNa do with no sports. John Orion from the Sports Business Journal says for now for now and this could change literally. Daily sure Espn's programming plans are on regular ESPN sportscenter all day and night to give you the latest of what's happening on. Espn news video. Simulcasts of radio shows I take your take and the Wilkin show and taped programming. Espn two will be simulcast in combination of ESPN ESPN news. Right so you think about it and they have all these platforms and networks. That air live games all the time. I mean here's the thing you remember in. This is not comp. Well I mean it's it's not comparable but we did sports radio an entire week after nine eleven right. It just didn't have to do with sports. We talked about the tragedy in the impact and the way it affected. Everybody's way of life I mean here's the thing about Radio WE'RE GONNA be here And we will be in it with you separate. Who's going on vacation? I am going on. You're you're you're still not coming in next. I'm still I'm still taking vacations long planned vacation. You are going be here John. Yeah I was going to have to miss. I'd a six game road trip coming up. I was going to miss like four days a shows and now I'm doing all of them. We have no NBA for a month. I mean we've no Middle East based off till you know whenever But we're going to continue doing shows. I was just saying to John. You know ultimately. We're enough to deal with this in a way where we're just kind of goofing around and be entered ringing on. Let's go because we're not gonNA have games to talk about. Oh sure I mean that can be fun though. Yeah well and I think that this story is going to change almost daily. Yeah I think we're going to have different updates. We're GONNA find out if more people have tested positive for this. I just got I just saw tweet from my My Buddy David Locke who has my job with the Utah Jazz. He tested negative. So that's good news at home in Salt Lake City It must have been a little nerve wracking. Well apparently what they did was they kept the the jazz and the thunder players at the arena until two in the morning. Now remember they canceled the game at seven fifteen time and they're all there till two in the morning they had the jazz players all tested and all the jazz staff traveling party all tested and then they flew home to Salt Lake City this morning. So they're back in Salt Lake and then you read the tweet that everybody's being told to stay in their home market. So the Lakers are all staying in Los Angeles the Kings are all staying in Sacramento. And you're supposed to stay there in one of the things they're doing is they're not having any team practices. But you can come in for individual workouts with coaches right so you know. These guys are welcome to come back in. But I don't think there's going to be any games for awhile. Loge reported this morning that What he's hearing is the owners are lobbying Adam silver to make some type of decision. You know month like wine a month right. Like like target he they they want everybody to know what's going to happen a month from now which is good which means things are going to be shut down for a few weeks. Yes that's what it looks like. They haven't announced that. But that's what it looks like. Yeah Mike Trout. Just tweeted okay. We're all at spot right now. That won't last forever to those who share the love of baseball sport. Life will all be back together soon. My wife and I urge everyone to take precautions and stay healthy yeah So Mitra who is the undisputed best player in baseball. We're GONNA have to wait. A few weeks to see him Spring training cancelled and the start of baseball and remember the angels opened the season against the. Oh you're things going to get cancer in the ASS. I mean hopefully just the astros. Ob there at some point. Oh and we should mention Lindsey. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. We have postponed our. I'm Money Machine Right. That's correct okay until we figure out what's going on so we're going to do that on Saint Patrick's Day. We'll do it down. Can't do a public gathering here at the station? Contrary right we'll do down the road. Yeah and we still have we still the money we gotta go right? It's only collecting interest. There MAY BE MORE MONEY. We will absolutely make it rain. There's one hundred percent chance of rain. Okay now the Laker game was supposed to be on. Tv tonight as rockets TNT. And Adam put tea and Tian in there Their in their Ernie Johnson Shack. Kenny Smith Charles. Barkley they are going to have Adam silver join them shortly and when he does. We'll try and bring that yeah. Yeah for sure. Ma- matter of fact when we break early in an attempt to make that we can get atoms by the way we will do fast track at the bottom of the hour. God knows we need a couple of laugh. Amen need a couple of Latin jazz. Go let me see. Let's go to Jordan in Maine. Hey Jordan you're in Maine. I'm listening to you guys on the APP. Got It with the NCAA cancelling the tournament. And then also you know all championship games for winter and Spring Sports. Do you guys think there's any chance they give seniors or any student athletes another year of eligibility. No great question really good question and actually I read something about this today Jordan. If you're a spring athlete so in other words your season just started or hasn't started yet Yeah why wouldn't you? Yeah like if you're a golfer and you've only played like two tournaments and you're a senior. Yup Why shouldn't you get the option to have a fifth year? I think that that's an absolute crap that had the idea. Okay here's the hard-won basketball players. They got to play a full season. Yeah like Sabrina S Q. If she wants to should they grant her another year of Eligibility? I think so too Jordan. What are you yeah? I'm a college student Jordan. I'm sorry let me cut you off. Adam silver has come to the podium. Let's from Adam you can handle in that office so I I really appreciate your taking some time with us now. Can you kind of take me through the way Wednesday played out culminating with you saying this is We're going to suspend the season absolutely first of all Charles. I hope you feel better. I I didn't even know you'd had a corona virus tests and obviously hope it comes back negative. I mean the the good news is that I mean especially for healthy people under seventy. It's very treatable but I I think it's Kenny said earlier that I think we're at the point. Now that this has been declared a pandemic that it's it's virtually impossible to contain it and it's going to become widespread also Kenney said the NBA community is not immune. And so it's going to spread throughout our community as well what had happened? Yesterday was that we had had a board of governors meeting. It was by conference call and some NBA League Committee meetings with some groups of our owners as well and the very purpose of the meeting was to decide what our next step should be. I've been talking to your colleague Grant Hill former. Nba Great. Who's also on the board of the NC Double A? And He'd been filling me in on their discussions about Facing the decision as to whether they should play at that point. They've obviously canceled this point whether they should play with or without fans and some of the same experts in particular Dr Vivek Murthy used to be the surgeon. General United States under Obama was advising us both and the truth is up to a few days ago or even until the experts were unclear as to whether as a public health matter Nba Arena should be emptied. It it it I think. There was a clear consensus. That for people over seventy or people who have any sort of underlying ailment or compromised immunity system that they should not becoming but again it was an open issue so we had a board meeting. We had scheduled one for Wednesday and one for today. The purpose of the one Wednesday was so that we could run through every team and get their point of view. We have some owners who have fairmont expertise. Micky arison anyone's Carnival cruise lines. Who's dealt with these issues for years and others who had who had opinions and and essentially a discussion was. Should we attempt to play our games without fans in the arena? Rina's would that be safe or we should take some sort of hiatus and then the plan was for the League office to process at that information and then have another discussion today and make a decision. That call went on for several hours and I was heading home. I think around eight o'clock or so last night and I got a call from the League office that we adjust learned literally right before tip of that Utah Jazz Oklahoma City. Game that Rudy Gobert only saying his name because he he made it public that he was one of the players that ultimately we learned tested positive that although Kidman separated from his team the day before because he had been running a fever and once once his test came back positive decide. We needed to make a decision whether we were then going to cancel the game and fans were in the seats. Ready to go. We are now Five or ten minutes past the point where you're supposed to tip..

"Get up brought to you by Gatorade thirst. Quenching. The proven sports fuel. Well, on the eve of the NBA finals, we were delighted to have the Commissioner of the NBA Adam silver in our studio at the beginning of this hour, and our crews frantically working put together some of the sound bites from that conversation. And of course, we'll have the mole up on our social media channels and everything else as the day continues. But one of the more interesting things he talked about was free agency, and this idea that some of the biggest stars in the sport forty percent of the league are going to be free agents when this off season arrives at the end of the NBA finals. And we're looking forward to July first about as much as we look forward to any date on the calendar. And I opened that question base sort of making an admission to him. But it was my belief is a lifelong fan of the sport. And when I was growing up basketball was my favorite sport by far. It was my belief that when all these big time players started changing teams something in the neighborhood of a decade ago that it was the worst thing that could happen to the league that it would be terrible for fan interest, and after admit I think I'm wrong. I think it is actually been great for the fans or great for fan interest, and base that, large, I've got a sixteen year old son. These kids are. Fans of players more than they are fans of teams. They follow these guys wherever they go. Do we have that now being told, okay we do? Here's what Adam silver said about it. It's also a way of rebirth of reforming a franchise and so you want a certain amount of change in the league, the other part that gets lost. Sometimes in when changing the system and creating shorter contracts. Also creates greater incentives for players players are like anybody else who has a contract and extent where you have essentially four and five year contracts right now creates very different centers..

"If he asked for trade and says, the only place outside and extension is with the Lakers. Then you can do that. Is he going to be willing to do it? I don't know. But I look at the Celtics, and I'm like a man if you look at the pelicans rather. I don't know for everybody. Really? I don't know how this goes. If he gets the July. I do not know how this goes if it gets July because then Anthony Davis can play his courts, I feel like if you're the pelicans you quietly start figuring out who give you what? And you try to move him in advance. The Darren Williams straight is the template where one day the jazz woke up, and we're like, yeah, we'll take it or down just fine. I mean, Anthony Davis is a player but different caliber than Darren Williams. But they got value form of note was that with was like what? Was that in twenty ten you know, what the last ten years have been a blur in terms of superstar trades like I have no context. Yeah. Let me check with the warriors. Trae was because the point I would make is it wasn't twenty ten as twelve. But the point is the Jess still have Derrick favors Derrick favors isn't a great player, but they were going to lose dared Williams. And in return, they got if nothing else like about six seven years of quality big man in the NBA is it that easy to find. You know, you make that tray before he asked for that trait except you can't because you're the pelicans in your whole situations. Perpetually tenuous? One thing that I heard from LeBron the other day him talking about mellow and just kind of like, oh, you know, the situations. Not right right now, I'm not like in charge of the team, whatever. And I just thought for a second. Like is he gonna like for? I mean, it's very doubtful that they're going to trade AD midseason. But I thought like is he laying the groundwork here for like all of the young wings to be traded for Anthony Davis midseason for them to sign mellow. I. We Keiser Mela was his basketball genius Vicky really was mellow. Yeah. I think he wants a metal to think he wants. Oh, oh, okay. You know, a man that's what they just said. We can't do it. I look I know you go to maj. Now, look. I just got. I just got s this. What you think about mellow? All right. Cool. You know, it's like the friend that wants to like stay in your hotel room or something like that. And you gotta ask your wife, if it's cool, man. All Lasko ask you baby. Is it cool? If you know, so and so stays out. No, all right, cool. She said, no, it's all good. Ask though. Yep. That's it. That's it. That's what it goes down to. But boy, you gotta LeBron Anthony Davis on Saint team. I can't think nothing else you get Brian days. I'm saying team. But by the way, magic has to make this happen. Right meditate. He gonna get this second guy. This is the second guy to get quite lenders. Probably not coming in free agency. You know what I'm saying? Like, this is the second guy to get you to man, you go make this happen Perry. All right, ladies and gentlemen. "This is just an amazing moment in the history of the game. Like, we go backwards all the Daven with Adam silver is that he was so prepared for. I think there's no other question about basketball that I possibly could've asked him that he was not prepared for with a talking point. But the journey. We that's where we take people y'all. That's what we do. We take out of these places. We take our want to go. You know what I'm saying? 'cause y'all curious he's all cures. Should we we as Roger Goodell about that one day? Although I feel like for us to get up to the Roger Goodell offices to ask him that question. We had the bummer rush. Somebody we probably get smoked that one might be a little bit more difficult. I think about this. If you hopped over the barricade to get to the elevator at the NFL offices. Do you think you would get smote? Potentially. Yeah. I I don't know if you're necessarily going to get smoked, but I'll tell you this you ain't gonna make an indie elevator. The other thing by the way, if you did make it to the NFL office and get to some floor that you weren't supposed to be on something. Like that one thing we gotta remember as we talk about the NBA full do that hooped. The NFL is full of Jews who played football. They are really need no security guard. But you know, you know, who works on every floor at the NFL, maybe one or two times over a gentleman by the name of take Terry tape office linebacker because they have actual linebackers. You've ever Tate. Name since millions but Terry take off his linebacker commercials. I have not oh you need to look those up. Those are quite possibly the greatest commercials in the history of commercials. Gyco thing they've kept the gecko going for a long time. And these times commercials s coup out understand who it was that didn't think that Terry Tate office linebacker could go forever. Although I feel like we have a different set of sensibilities in this day and age about things like leading with the helmet and brain injuries. So maybe Terry Tate would be a little bit more of a guilty pleasure. Bettega off his linebacker gay. You turn it off every day. And as in there and just pull up a Terry take off his line back video. And when you get done watching it, you can jump in interrupt me with anything I'm saying because you are going to wonder how did I go this far my life without ever having seen Terry Tate? On. Who's already watching? It is so funny. You watched it with the volume on, right? Yes. It is. Do the recycling bin with like penta petrified. Looking you may interiew Tate? There's no way. The I watch dairy video. There's no way to know that you're going to see somebody get declared. Walk away from K to paper jam baby. You can't can you get depleted if you're not wearing Cleef. That's what makes it amazing. Yes. Yes. Dairy date linebacker. We're about Adam silver some. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Somebody knocking you block in case, you try to run up in the NFL off Zano if you smoke the NBA offices, but I probably wouldn't chance it. I wouldn't know enroll today is on that day. What I definitely wouldn't do go up software. Layup, none of the NBA off somebody going to get that weakness. The sky. You know, I had a good time talking to commission silver. I thought that that went I thought that that went very well. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Also, like, I thought it was interesting hearing them talk about like here until about IT kademi, he's in the different countries. Because basically, here's what I feel like you're saying when you talk about this stuff with the academies and everything else, it's always been kind of root of like some of the hypocrisy, in the way, people view the need that college athletes have for the colleges themselves. There is no way that you can like sincerely invest in basketball academies. And then try to explain why guys need to go to college. Right..

"I walk in. I see Tim Frank. We exchanged depth that. I do not exchange of people in my office. When I meet them. It just does not work that way in the draft. I could not keep up with all the things the young fella's might be coming up with you are ready. Let me see how to answer this. Not the problem is it gets really awkward if I try to think about it because I would. And I've heard a few things are red. If things after the fact after draft and people will take note of how a player great of MIR. I read the player, and I think for the most part, I'm taking the players leads. They're coming up to me, especially in draft. I mean, there's lots of people are watching. It's not the same as being an open a private situation. And I'm sort of looking like if they stick their hand, all shake it. If they you know. It. They put their fist out. It's it. It just sort of happens naturally up there. But it is a little bit awkward to think about it. I I will say that I tend to be a little bit of a hugger, and especially as I get older in this job. And I realized that I'm clearly of the age where I could be the parent or if an even older in some cases, the players where there's see so I'm thirty five years older than some of those players who are coming up. So I think part of it is is is a little bit almost avenger right now, where it's a little bit of a hug, I think one thing to say in the draft in particular. I've learned from when I'm shaking hands standing and getting our picture taking even for a lot of these really well known young men coming into our draft who've already one NCWA championships, or, you know, played many high profile situations, you can feel how nervous they are. I'm sure you've had that feeling when somebody comes up to you and once selfie. Whatever you put your arm around their shoulder. You feel there's a little bit trembling a little bit. Like, these guys are nervous. So I I see my role is making them as comfortable as possible. So I I'm prepared to greet them. Whatever way is gonna make his gonna make the to us, by the way. I'm little nervous myself up there. I wasn't trained to do that. So I think it's it's a fun part of the job. But I get a kick out of the are talking about it. But it I everytime. I try to think about it. And I think like how should I be greeting this player? It gets really stiff, and it's going to become even that much more. I gotta say is the equilibrium of debt. I got called on the in between when you walked in. I got halfway there. It was like, I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I got caught in that place. We enjoy the warriors ring ceremony because it's such a mix of different people where anybody could lead off with anything Joe lake. Oh, probably come with a handshake. And then I remember that when Peter Gruber on the co owner he stuck his finger out. And I had the ring. And I can this wasn't rehearsed. And I wasn't hurt. My supposed to literally played the. Bigger getting engaged. And I'm thinking, I gotta make up my mind Wigley, and everybody's like a little shaky. You know, people are nervous. So I just went for the hug do next. This is life in sports business into eighteen. This is Commissioner Adam silver with immaculate MPA cufflinks. I just noticed those. That's a nice piece back you. All right. I appreciate I I would say couplings showpiece. That's that's a good one to have our job doesn't have those. I don't think they will look nearly as cool, but we also don't have. But I appreciate it bad. Thank you. Thanks for coming in. You damn right. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are actually sitting here. Now, Gabe is to my right nut normally in the same place today in the same place and across the table from you Commissioner of the NBA, Adam silver is kind enough to join us. I greatly. Appreciate you and this fine spread of fruits and juices that is behind us. They. They. No, that's for you. Great heads it. I see how you got to the place that you are here. So how are you enjoying the twenty thousand nine hundred nineteen season? I'm really enjoying it. In fact, I'm on my way to Houston later today to see Houston wizards game rockets wizards game and seasons unfolding in a really exciting way. I always say I'm a big subscriber of league pass I live here in New York City, and I sit home at night, and I can watch games from the league. And well, it's hard to claim that every team contending for the championship this year. There's something interesting going on it every team. I think the young players coming to league. This Luca Danni, for example in Dallas. I mean, it's remarkable what he's doing on the floor trae young too for that matter in Atlanta. And I'm just enjoying watching the games. And I think there's no question it's been some surprises season some team still coming together. And I think the young guys are coming into their own in that with the warriors. I think not being perceived as dominant this season. Who knows what's? Going to happen this year. But I think it's given some of the young guys some competence that hey, we can compete, and you can see it in their eyes. I been going to game. So far this year I've been somewhere or at least one or two cities every week. And also seem the players in person getting chance to check in with some of the guys I think it's it. We're not the NFL in terms of any given Sunday. But I think there's more of a sense this year that that more teams can compete, and are progressing, and that young players are really developing on the floor cares about that. Because when the CBA after the lockout a big thing that we heard was a discussion that the NBA wanted more parody. They wanted a broader, you know, brought us Alexa, teams that seem to be good which seemed strange to me just because the eighties. When you go back and think about it too teams won the Western Conference. I think three teams won the east that seemed to be like the glory. But now I have to say I look at it in there really is something interesting going on across the board. It was this which you guys envisioned when you wanted to change the way the league structure to certain extent, I think over time. We can even do a better job in distributing talent throughout this league. But what I've always had is it's not as much parody parody of opportunity because there's a recognition in this league as opposed to the NFL, for example that as as great a job, and I think they should be credited with the system they've created for parody that I think if you took a group of our best general managers, and you had playing cards for all the players, and you said create parody. I think it would be frankly, very difficult across thirty teams because as we know with LeBron James or Kevin Durant or Steph curry one player can be so dominant in this league that and they're only so many of those incredible players as as as elite as all the players are in the league. There are what's number ten truly difference makers who if you have that player on your team almost regardless of who you surround them with as long NBA talent that's going to be a playoff team. So I'm not sure we can ever have NFL style parody. But I. I think in terms of opportunity. One of the things our collective bargaining agreement. I think has done a better job in terms of distributing talent throughout the league. But maybe more importantly SIS the societal change in digital. And social media has meant that. If you're Russell Westbrook, for example, and opposite, Oklahoma City is one of the smaller cities in this league doesn't prevent him from being globally known talked about economics in terms of economic opportunity extent that's important to players, and meaning what they can make off the floor because we have a cap system in individual max that those economic opportunities are gonna come based on winning..

It's great. So let's let's talk some some NBA issues. Here. I've got such a long list, and I don't even know where to start. So I'm just going to start here. Taking lottery reform. This is the first year that you guys readjusted the odds, right? This is an effect this year for the first time. So equal fourteen percent chance of the top pick for the three teams at the worst records. And this was the push to say we we're not going to tolerate taking anymore. Let's try to get this out of the game. You talked about how corrosive it was not just what teams might be doing. But how fans and media were talking about what teams are doing. But here we are encouraging it any courage. But here we are it's late December. And I can tell you based on my Twitter feed and other things that fans of the Knicks many fans the Knicks are outright rooting for them to lose because they all oncein Williamson fans of the Cavaliers certainly are rooting. I've heard I've seen nets crossfire between nets fans who aren't sure if they want to still be over achieving or they have their pick back to be losing more. I don't think that this conversation has gone away. And as I look at the standings atom Atlanta zone pace for about seventeen wins, Chicago and Phoenix eighteen wins. Cleveland nineteen wins. The Knicks Twenty-three wins. That's five teams that are under three hundred winning percentage. That's even higher than last year. So I ask you is lottery reform, actually, working to the extent that teams still may be kind of somewhat tanking and fans in meteoroid still absolutely talking about it that way, I think the direct answer your question is it's unclear how effective the lottery form will be. And I think you'll remember as I said, then we knew when we made these changes..

"Got plays out the what the walk committed to winning at a time when you get in so much such an exorbitant amount of dollars that's being according to these players, they're saying, no, that's not enough. We care about winning because we want more that I think that's actually good again. It's so funny, of course, then the other side of the coin and you're right, I do like in fact, we've made a lot of changes are collective bargaining system so that contracts will be shorter where we close more closely type pay for performance. And it's remarkable to me when I hear somebody complaining that a player made a move because it would increase his chances of winning you and I also lived through period in the NBA where you go on, then it was talk radio around the clock and you'd hear guys say, I can't believe there's don't really care about winning. All they care about is getting their acting now guys will you're right, especially in a cap system. Look, if you're a superstar in the NBA you know, putting aside some tax differential from one market to another. You're going to get the max contracts that you're going to get your money. So then in a good way, it becomes about winning and they're driven to win. And yet somehow that's been turned into a negative by some people. So I'm with you. There's no perfect system, but at the end of they had much rather have guys doing anything to win than anything to get a contract Commissioner. Adam silver right here was the day on ESPN radio and ESPN news. Adam, let me shift to a story that was relative. I I don't think it's denial. I mean, it was unfortunate. We know what happened with the Dallas Mavericks organization. Investigators found that about fifteen females in the Mavs organization was subjected to our rasmin by a former CEO also found workplace misconduct that stretched nearly twenty years. Alternately, Mark Cuban agreed to pay out ten million dollars, you know, for causes involving domestic violence and beyond. And you know, I thought he should. I love Mark Cuban. I think he's phenomenal for the NBA, but I thought because of the times that we're living in and what folks are demanding in terms of repercussions. And what have you that a harsher punishment should. Have come down. What were your door? Could you explain what your decision wasn't? Why know I think you said it perfectly at and my job, you know, as as Commissioner, and it's probably the most important parts of my job, and that's meting out discipline in a situation like this and and I take it so seriously that I never wanted to be in a position where whether it's a player coach or an owner that I'm an essence making an example out of him and sort of the lead into your question, given the times we live in and that sort of suggests to me that because of a larger environment like should have done something more just to send a message in my view is I just I have to look at the individual facts in the individual facts here where that after a seven month investigation that was conducted by a woman and milk grim, she led it. She's a former attorney general New Jersey. She looked at one point, six million documents. She interviewed two hundred and fifteen people and nobody had any. There was never suggested that she wasn't completely objective. She'd never met Mark Cuban before she never did work for the Mavericks has no intention to them work. For them in the future. So completely independent. I think there were seven lawyers who worked on his practically fulltime for seven months. They found that Marquette, no direct involvement in any of these incidents..

"Well the latter is true whatever the states now it's in it's in the state's hands it's an each individual states hanso whatever they determined to allow that's what's going to be but if you if you follow this everything that you just said will ultimately be allowed in someplace in some way shape or form you know adam silver i listened to earlier a couple of ulysses were a little misled they are in a couple of people said that the league's during this for the money everybody should understand that all of the professional league and the ncaa fought us regulation now i think as they started the cedar writing on the wall and that when it went to the supreme court and they thought that decision might be changed the the law might be changed rather adam silver the commissioner nba came out and be very proactive in fact the nba ask that one percent of all the monies that get that on the nba would go to the nba so that they can because they're going to have to add administration for compliance and enforcement and so on they're gonna have to double down on the things that they've done to prevent players and officials and coaches and so on from damn wing and they're going to have to make sure that that they continue to do that so a lot of the rules for the league's will not change but they're ultimately stands to be a windfall because i i'm in the business of sports for thirty five years i can tell you that there were rules in place by all of the league's that do not allow for casinos or for sports betting powers or anything else to advertise or to sponsor teams obviously that's gonna change it's the states where teams play changed their rules on gambling commando allow the teams to go out and get new sponsors advertisers and so on and the same would be said for you know your radio station or anybody else so it opened up a whole new aminu of of sponsorship and advertising now that yeah not only that but it'll change the content that is out there to programming's that's out there.
