But now i need to figure out how implemented or i need to get out of my own head and stop being scared about doing some of these things. Then all my information's on those sites loved to talk to any of you. One of the things that i wake up every day. I spend mental belief that i can change life or business with one idea one question or one conversation. It doesn't always work. But that's what i aim to do. And sometimes it starts with one conversation where you have an aha moment and you turn your business and life around because of that. You just never know how you're going to affect somebody. And what was that one idea. And i was love it with all these different ideas that i get from my wonderful expert gas and i hope a listeners will just take one nugget of information and put that into practice and then who knows. That could skyrocket hope business. Oh yes thank you adam and if you which lebeau listeners with a golden nugget what would that be. Here's my golden nugget around time in marketing most struggling businesses or newer businesses or less successful than they want to be. Business is de prioritized their marketing. And they do it because they don't have air quotes time because they've got so much work to do what i wanna do. Lead the golden nugget to create time that you can now spend on your marketing. And that's by asking yourself these four questions before you do anything question. Number one is what. I'm about to do going to get me paid. We don't spend enough time on revenue producing activities and that's why our businesses are not successful. If what you're about to do is gonna get you paid. It becomes a high priority. If it's not we need to rethink it. Question number two is what i'm about to do going to serve my purpose. We all have a purpose. The reason your listeners and your clients wrote books is because they have a purpose they wanna get their message out. There was going get. you paid an serve. Your purpose question number three does what i'm about to do need to be done by me. There's a lot of things that we do every day. That are better done faster. Done and cheaper done by technology by joint venture partners by employees by outsource partners. Does it need to be done by. You doesn't get paid. does it. serve your purpose. Does it need to be done by you. And in the fourth question is does what i'm about to do need to be done at all. There's a lot of things we do at pushing papers around are destined calling at work. That dozen service. A dozen serve our clients but we do it anyway and i'm not talking about wasting time on facebook or candy crush. I'm talking about some of the worst things that we think are adding value. But they're just not if you follow those four questions you're going to create a tremendous amount of time and efficiency and you can use that time to focus on your marketing talking more people getting yourself out there reaching out and being on podcast writing a blog using your book in multiple different ways. Because now you've got the timing capacity to do so that sounds like a gold bar rather than listeners. You have gotten so much badly for your money Adam you've been amazing. "And Marketing Strategist Adam kipness. Most people think that growth is what kills businesses or lack of growth is what kills businesses they're not making enough sales. But if you look deep if you study businesses enough more businesses. Break because of too much growth rather than not enough. It's an odd concept. But when you look at, why do why do businesses break from too much growth that should be a good thing to have. And as I've studied in, we'll talk a little bit about today. It's because they can't handle the Gross Hannibal Jack Nicholson from from a few good men. They can't handle the growth because they don't have systems. They don't have processes. They don't have anything in place and they end up working themselves to death or working themselves through exhaustion, and then not being able to fulfil on what they just sold. So we're gonNA talk about systems. We're GONNA help you not fall. Into that trap and for those of you that are having challenges either with too much or too little growth having the right system in place can solve both of those problems. "In Math, it's called reversion to the mean in business. It's as simple as. Doing, what others are doing, almost being to average and his average, good enough, most of strive for more, but why are so many of US stuck that? A lot of it is because we're not getting right guidance. We're not getting the right coaching. We're not getting the right teaching. We're not taking the right action in order to be extraordinarily to be better than we were the day before to be better than our appears, and not better in terms of better people, but doing a little bit more helping more people being more valuable society. You're listening to the Entrepreneurs Mba I'm your host Adam kipness? I appreciate you taking the time to be here. Today's guest is. A master at helping you become extraordinary. She says in her book. That average is an addiction. How do we break that addiction to be great debris? Thanks for joining me today I. Appreciate It, and it's my pleasure. Love doing this and I'm very excited to be here with you, so thank you. You got it. You got it so before we dig into sort of the the bulk of your work and and help people I always liked to understand more about where you came from now. You've been a high performer since day one. But where did the entrepreneurial spirit come from? Day One was I was born breached, so I came out feet first round, generous rocket! I think. I. Where do they come from I'm Kinda. Say probably from my midwest upbringing. Born and raised in a small town, just outside of Chicago My mom cited fan late were. Armor chicken cows and Crops My Dad's side was Kentucky. which was tobacco so I learned at a very young age. GotTa work hard to get what you need and. It's okay to make it easier fine with that, but it does take effort. And strategizing, but then at the end of the day. I would watch as My parents and my relatives would go out on the porch. Swing swaying play instruments, saying and talk, and all sorts of things, science alert fund is good as well and the family stories were amazing saving all of that combined plus my attitude of while say it this way. Somebody asked me once. What really ticks me off and I said be an average, and that's for me or anybody else. And I look at averages. Not I'm not an average person. The end yet there are aspects of me that our average. I'm not as good as I clicked the. So at. that. Point I have to determine. Do I care? You know I'm an average cook. I! Don't care. My dog eats drama bag I. Do fine finding enough food to each. It doesn't matter, but if I were chef at a very fine restaurant than being averaged, he's not gonna cut it not if I want to excel in this world, so I think just sat attitude of. Doing better. Getting better was ingrained in me as a little earl especially from my my father. And it's interesting that you say that you're okay. Being average in some aspects of your life and extraordinary and others, many times high performers..

"And really good cultures deal with the fact that nobody leaves their private life at home. Just like they don't leave their business at work. They take it home and now. During this van Damme damage. It's drew for everybody right. Everything's all mixed together. It's important to find out if your kids are sick or you have a relative. That had Kovin, but that was always important, even in a regular D- what we knew as normal work situation, it's important to create an environment where people can say. My mom has cancer and I need to take care of her. As opposed to being in an environment where I am pushed to leave that at home. You're going to get much more out of me if I can. Be Honest. We're talking with Julie Solid Julianne Sullivan the entrepreneurs, NBA, podcast, with Adam kipness and talking about culture, and not only in today's proven world, but in general, all businesses have cultures now I want to ask you a little question, because you're sort of going down that line of there's a little bit more caring or seems to be a little bit more caring in today's world, because of the pandemic that worrying and conversations are starting with the personal, not just the business and there's an understanding that we might have to take some time or do things a little bit differently. As, someone who's studied human behavior for as deeply as you haven't for as long as you have. What kind of systemic changes are you seeing? Or versus superficial. How and how do we know well first of all? It's too early to tell just like the research i. Take Time. I have seen. Again people who already have really good cultures. Are. Are Thriving through this challenge, because they already had that in place, but let me let me give you this example of how I think systemically. This might have some. Forever Change. Again I'm. GonNa use two schools. One school is going to be. It is so important for me to communicate any and keep engaging my employees because. We will get to the other side. It could be six months. It could be a year and a half right? We will get to the other side and I like my employees. They do a good job for me. And how can I engage them in a way that they'll still be here when we need them? Then, there's a school over.

"Here. We go with step five of the strategic planning process on the entrepreneurs MBA podcast. I'm your host Adam kipness. So we've talked about creating your story. We've talked about understanding your strengths. We've talked about supplementing your weaknesses and then we talked about turning your goals into expectations and expect what you really want to happen now. We need to talk about the environment that we put ourselves in. How do we position ourselves properly in order to be in the best position to have success right and there's a lot of us that have have found ourselves pushing papers around our desks and at the end of the day? Where like that was a holiday. I got a lot of good work done but all you did was really moved one stack of paper from one place to another. We didn't accomplish what we needed to do because the environment wasn't right for us to do so. So how do we get the environment direct? So when you get to your office you do the right things for the right reasons at the right time. A lot of it is this process right. If you have a strategic plan you will know what you need to do. Why you're going to need to do it and how it's GonNa make you successful but let's break it down with with sort of an easy example and I always use this example for this topic and it's if you want to lose weight and you've got cookies in the cabinet you can walk over the cabinet. Grab cookie in certain mouth right. It's as easy as that but if you really want to lose weight you need to throw away the cookies you to go through your cabinets and go through your drawers. You over your countertops and throw away all of the things that you don't WanNa be eating because they're unhealthy and I'm not making a judgment call on different diets. We can deal with that in a future episode but you get rid of the stuff. That is inhibiting you from the success that you want and losing weight so if you don't have any cookies in your cabinet and you WanNa cookie you've got to go get your car keys. You've got to get in your car. You've gotTA drive to the store you've gotta go inside. You've got to pick out the cookies you've got to get to the cashier. You've gotta pay for your cookies. You GotTa get back in your car and hopefully you get back home before you start eating those cookies right. That's like seven different things that you need to do in order to eat those cookies. So what are the cookies in Your Business? What are the things that are timewasters? And I'm not saying stay off social media hundred percent but maybe stay off social media during the hours of eight and five unless you're using it from for a marketing or business development purpose. Get rid of the magazines that you never read unsubscribe from the emails that you've ever read but you see clean up your phone maybe turn off the reminders on your phone. So they don't pop up in the middle of the day and you get distracted from doing what you need to do. Which is taking care of your clients which is doing business development. Which is thinking strategically about Your Business. So think about ways to optimize your environment and a lot of those things are things that you might need to stop doing or get rid of and we're not saying that you can't have fun. I'm not saying that you will not be able to have enjoyment while you work. What I m saying is there are timewasters that are built into our days especially with technology that pop up at the wrong time that take our eye off the ball that make us lose. Focus on what we are trying to achieve. If you do the steps that we're talking about in this six process and you put yourself in the best position to do so without the things that are wasting your time without the things that are taking your eye off the ball. You will be more successful. And you will have the opportunity to do that and disley endlessly. There's a famous quote out there that if you do what others won't for a short time you can do what others can't for a lifetime and part of that is putting your environment right and changing the things that are coming into your day day by day so think about ways that you can optimize your environment. Make a stop doing list. Make a list of things that you need to get rid of and get rid of it. I get rid of. I throw away five things a day because I've got stuff everywhere. Mail comes every day packages come. I buy stuff my wife buy stuff like we have a lot of stuff and so I make a point to throw away five things a day. That are not serving me that I'm not using and just taking up space because I want my environment when I go into my office or when I get on the phone or when I wanna sit and think clearly about my business to be an optimal environment so optimize your environment and put yourself in the best position to succeed. This is Adam kipness. Thanks for listening to step five of the strategic planning process on the entrepreneurs MBA. Podcast look forward to hearing all of your feedback and appreciate you taking a few minutes to listen to this episode..

"Welcome back to the entrepreneurs. Mba PODCASTS WITH ADAM. Kipness four step four of the strategic planning process. And this is one of my favorite parts of it. Probably my favorite part of it. And it's all about the goal setting conversation goal. Setting is a multi multibillion dollar industry there are thousands of books written on it but I actually have a little bit of a different take because when we look it goal setting and we've all set goals right at the beginning of the year. We look at. What do we want to achieve this year? We make our whether their New Year's resolutions or whether we don't want to call them that but we do something about setting your goals what we want to achieve but statistically it's been said that ninety seven percent of those things never happen so why is it that those things never happen. Why do we set goals? But they don't happen and I like to think of it this way if we look at other parts of our lives if we look at the employees that we have in our businesses. Do we have a goal that they show up for work? Do we have a goal that they're good at their job? Do we have a goal that they're going to support the business and do what they can. During the hours they work. Now we expect it. We have a goal. We expect that they're going to do what. Their job is. Something as basic as flipping the switch on the wall to turn on the light. We don't have a goal that that's GonNa work. We expect it to work so when we look around our lives and we look at the things that are important to us. We don't set goals. We have expectations but then when we look at ourselves. We look at our own achievements. We set goals and they don't come true so I want you to think about yourself in the way that you think about other things in your life. I want you to think about what you expect to achieve. Because it's as simple as this if you have a goal you're gonNA make an extra hundred thousand dollars this year or you're gonNA reach five hundred thousand or a million in revenue and that's your goal but internally you expect to only make twenty five thousand dollars more or you expect only to make two hundred thousand dollars or three hundred thousand dollars in revenue. What do you think is going to happen right? We're going to get what we expect. We're only GONNA improve our business by twenty five thousand or thirty thousand or whatever that number is that you actually expect now with the goal that you dream about but what you expect of yourself so think about what you actually expect. I don't want you to hold back. I want you to be bold. I want you to reach out. I want you to think about being better than you've ever been before but I want you to expect it so think about the words that US think about the time that you put in. Think about the mental mind. Set that you have and expect these things to happen. Don't have a goal that they happen. Expect it to happen so on you to tailor your expectations to what you really really want rather than setting your goal because I know if you expect it it will happen. Thanks for listening to this fourth part of the strategic planning process. Think about what you expect is what you expect will happen. And let's make everything this is Adam kipness on the entrepreneurs MBA. Podcast look forward to to you on step. Five of the six part strategic planning process. Hope this was beneficial. Reach out to me at at Adam on Instagram facebook and Lincoln. And let's continue the conversation. Also if you've got comments please put them on Whatever podcast site your listening to? "And marketing. Strategist Adam kipness. Everyone and thanks for jumping in on step three of the strategic planning process in the last step we talked about strengths and knowing what your strengths are right. There's a flip side to that. What are we bad at? What what our weaknesses. And a lot of times we think about our weaknesses more than we think about our strengths. We say I'm not very good at that. And we continue to try and do it and again we can't do a show of hands here on a podcast but mentally. Raise your hand or even physically. Raise your hand if you spend a lot of time in your business doing stuff you don't like and that you're not good at right. I bet there's a lot of mental hands going up. I know I've done it for a long time until I figured out a better way. Stop doing the things that you aren't good at. There's plenty of time and there's plenty of reasons to get better at some of those weaknesses but the fact is there. Is Somebody out there. That is better at it cheaper than it at faster at it. Then you are so what we want to do is look at those things that that are weaknesses. Things were not great at and we want to look at ways to hire it maybe ways to outsource it or even ways that are more cost effective to partner with somebody else on it. Maybe there's technology out there that will do it for us and then finally we can always learn it. But I'm a big believer that if you focus on what you're good at and you outsource higher partner are used technology for the things that you're not. You could springboard your business forward so I encourage you to stop trying to fix the problems. Focus on the things that you're great at and find other solutions for things that you're not honestly it will save you time. It will save you money. It will save you heartache. By having somebody who's actually better at your weaknesses then you are. I kind of live by a bit of a mantra. That eighty percent of what comes across. My desk is not my job and I don't mean that in arrogant way I mean it in a totally positive way in that there is actually somebody better at that job than we are. So let's find those people let's partner with those people. Let's utilize those people who are better at those things so we can focus on what we're good at on a daily basis so let's supplement our weaknesses. Let's focus on what we're good at knowing the story that we WANNA create. Those are the first recapped three steps of the strategic planning process. If you haven't listened to to the other two definitely jump on their super short super easy to listen to and we'll help you focus on doing what needs to be done because you're great at it and we will let other people utilize their strengths and help us.

"Welcome back to the entrepreneurs. Nba podcast four step two of the strategic planning process. Step Jews about your strengths. What are you good at a truly? What are you good at one? Assess what you're GONNA we don't want to over think it we don't want to question it or judge it. We just want to know where your strengths lie. If your strengths are like me talking to people then do more of that. If your strengths are the internal stuff running operations running the business figuring out where the cost savings are figuring out where how to turn the dial. Do More of what your good at and over. Think what you should be doing. Know what you are good at. This is actually a really short episode. It's really just write down what you're good at. Don't judge it. Don't over think you don't question it. Just write it down. No what you're good at and focus on doing more of it. We'll talk about the rest of the pieces in your business that need to be done because there's a lot that needs to be done in any business and we'll talk about how you deal with those things but if you do what you're good at on a day in and day out basis you will be successful. Your Business will be successful so take a minute. Think about it. Write it down and understand what you're good at and you will succeed in your business in your life. That's it for this one. I like I said it was super short. But it's something we don't take enough time to think about and it's something we certainly don't take enough time to write down and figure out no what you're good at and do more of it. "On the path to entrepreneurship. We we all have ideas. We all things that we go out we set out to do and we put all of our energy and focus in there but an interesting thing tends to happen in our businesses businesses and that is our prospects our clients are buyers actually need something else or they ask us for something else and it will lead to an entire line of business and there's a really important distinction versus what is real. And what do we think Israel and we're GONNA learn a little bit about today in our conversation because today's guests not only has a great line of business that that was doing well and doing great for his business and his employees but what a new line of business opened up as he was doing it and there was another income stream. So it's always important to be focused on what you're doing but also keep your eyes open for what your clients are asking for. Because sometimes they're asking for something that you are great at you can do. And they need that can be another business all in and of itself and we're GonNa talk about that today. "Coach and marketing strategist adam kipness. We've all had that idea that. I wish we had this. I wish we had that and sometimes it's small sometimes it's big but we say i wish we had it and then the thought goes out of her mind and and we move on but there are people in the world that take action in on that thing when they have that idea and they say well let me go create it and they go in create it and that's what our our entrepreneurial world is built on right. We've got shark tank uh-huh where people are coming up with ideas and just making it happen and we've got one of those type of people today someone who saw something that he thought to be successful bowl and it turned out that he was right. It was turned out. It was something that the marketplace wanted and it's been successful for over fourteen years so we're gonna learn about the journey of that of how do you say hey i think we should do and then actually doing it and then seeing it to fruition and the positives and a couple of bumps in the road along the way as the business this continues to go on. "It's being the leader of a mastermind of your peers ears and new people coming into your industry and you learn they learn we within that mastermind but creates a revenue stream for the for the the person who's who built did and who is running it correct absolutely so it because that growth mindset so a fixed mindset for example. Let's use a campaign setting of a fixed mindset says more people coming into the industry just gets hotter and hotter for me to compete and frogger prices because most people come into a market was sufficiently do they charge raj last five right so they all of the worst job at a cheaper price at just to get some runs on the boards but a growth mindset says all these people coming in anyway <hes> vista choices they can fumble along and they can do that coming in anyway or i can make money from them and teach them my skill set my expertise my experience france and at the same time it instantly positions you as authority in that in that niche or that industry because you're teaching people <hes> so you automatically come up and you came out additional revenue and the beauty is you haven't got to learn you information. You already have it. It's it's if anything it's just paring down what these people come in. They wanna know they wanna know systems systems. They wanna know marketing. They want to know what's the best software combinations things you just ask them and you build. You build the process around what they what they're struggling with the amongst that's awesome. That's awesome so coming to you mentioned marketing so let's talk a little bit about about how your marketing and and obviously you don't give away we all your secret sauce in the mastermind world but obviously people listening to the show probably need more clients. They're they're listening for the lessons of business and how to grow themselves so what has worked well for you. In growing your own community and bringing people into your mastermind world clients i something that i called the big promise and what's as we get more and more distracted with more and more noisy information out there but we really looking for is is an outcome not a process so i call it the big promise if you can wrap up what you do in the end outcome people instantly get it and buy it and what people fail to realize is. Is that a lot of a fast food companies from the seventies when fast-food wasn't as ubiquitous. That's what they did so great example is dominos. Pizza isn't the best pizza eighteen world know to me. It tastes like cobb board but at a time when people didn't often order or have fast food they <hes> they value proposition and their promise was a pizza delivered in thirty minutes or it's free so instantly people understand exactly. Are they getting game. I'm reasonably hot patriot pizza. 'cause it come in thirty minutes and free. Was that the nice sort of hook so they massively grew business like that mcdonalds. It's an similar as well so so when you look at that and that's a promise instead of saying a win number what it is we're experts that we do blah blah blah blah blah and people don't care about that they just they just want to know do what they can get and the end result so if you can find a way to wrap up your outcomes in that big promise so for me at the end of successions asians. You'll know exactly how to run a mastermind your high paying mastermind group. That's what they want. They don't really wanna know during the six weeks. Learn this and that and you'll cover of this blah blah blah blah blah. I don't really care on it skipped to the what are we going to get at the end and i think when you can wrap up your services it in that promise you stand out a lot more because people instantly understand what they get and he was paying point. They're looking for then they'll work at the semantics and the the delivery in the process and all your expertise but to get them interested rested you wanna look at that big promise at the stop. That's awesome appreciate that and it just so true in it's so easy to to think about what we you can give not what the other person will receive and the result that they have so we need to think in their mind and it's one of the things that that i dig deep on with my clients lines. Is you know what is the conversation going on in the head of your buyer. Not what are you trying to tell your buyer and you said it perfectly so before we wrap up. I wanna know like so people now they know and they have the concept of the mastermind and they've learned a little bit about doing a mastermind within their own industry help support the industry and sit and support income stream from they set from themselves and they can learn that from you. What but what do they do. I wanna get listening to this and they're like all right. I wanna know more. They should go to your website but what what should they do next. What's the first thing they should do a thing to to really ask yourself. As is what i know teachable both and and you know what people wanna pick my brains of ad so for for those industry leaders people of the <hes> the established business and think for most of my might be good for you there. The two questions to ask yourself is what i do teachable and people sort of pick your pick my brains and that's your it's your germ of an idea for say okay this small section what i know could be incredibly valuable for people coming into industry for that shortcut and it's a question is asked if you're the people <hes> simply simply going back to the market whether you've been your h. For five days or fifteen years it's always evolving as always changing at a at a faster pace than than we would imagine ten fifteen years ago and business so it's not making assumptions of going okay. Let me ask you struggle at this point. Yes <hes> four or five people absolutely montsame. It's it's a general trend if you are six people and they give you six different different reasons than you go to the mode and find something. That's more common commonality because it's not scalable. That's more one to one coaching. If sixty six different problems but very quickly will find every industry there is a gap between what they want and and where they are and therefore you can always fill that gap with your expertise and knowledge that you already have love it and so i do have to ask you about at this. You're twenty three years old. You are working on a cruise ship. The cruise ship sinks and you helped rescue pass passengers and fellow staff from that ship. There's a youtube video on it. That'll be in the show notes. What's but tell us about that experience in you know what that has taught you that you've been able to use later in life. Adam played for years afterwards. All i used it was full was just to sell tell amusing anecdotes parties because at the time somebody funny things happened. That's what i remember so i have this. I'm particularly demonstrative and i am not tickly emotional so maybe that that kind of helped me just is what it is. <hes> keep an lesson i took from their which ignored for a long time was that i genuinely enjoy helping people because otherwise i was one of the most people on the ship is all offices him and stop accruate left and i just jumped him without even thinking about it. You know she helping people. I just need so my key takeaway from there was that sometimes you're you superpower parallel. What you meant to do what you could at sometimes you find dates and some san francisco looking forward and sometimes it finds you love it. Love the conversation and <hes> thanks for being here. Thanks for telling us about the power. Masterminds made made me think about it in a different way than i've always been taught so. I always loved to learn that <hes> learn new things as well. Thanks for what you're doing. Thanks for being on the show and taught talking the listeners about how they can start their own masterminds and how they can be successful in them.
