Is the U.S. Empire Crumbling Before Our Eyes?

"This week is beginning pretty quiet on the crypto front. The FTX bankruptcy estate released a report with not a ton of new info or things that we didn't know, just more lurid details. Now I would say all in all, people's heads are definitely on the bigger issues swirling around. Take for example a post that went quite viral over the weekend from Adam Driver on Twitter, whose profile reads not the Adam Driver from Star Wars. The thread kicks off the empire is imploding and goes through more than 30 recent stories all relating to the supposed collapse or at least radically shifting landscape of the American led global order. A few of atoms examples. Number three Saudi openly divorces USA and ties nuptials with Iran and China. Number four D dollarization trade agreement signed. Number 5 Taiwan strait controlled by China. Number 17, China domestic chip manufacturing advancing rapidly. Number 18 American banking system on brink of collapse. Number 20, mass protesting in Franks, Macron struggling to keep control. 25 swift system alternative developed by Russia slash Iran increasingly being adopted. 26 an unusual increase in train derailments, factory explosions, chemical spills and contamination events across the U.S.. Number 30, demand for Zimbabwe's gold coin skyrocketing following calls by African leaders to stop using the USD as a primary currency. Now, I don't totally agree with all of the characterizations of events in the thread, but that sort of secondary to the broader point, which is that the collection of these things under this framework of the empire is imploding clearly has resonance. So we're going to use that as a jumping off point today for a bit of a geopolitics primer and catch up. And let's start on the themes of trade, China, and changing alignment. Last week, French president Emmanuel Macron and EU commission president Ursula von der leyen visited Beijing to meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping. The two European leaders had somewhat diverging interest during their visit. Borderland represented the concerns of the European Union, articulating that continued friendly relations with China were contingent on Beijing refusing to provide material support to Russia in a speech last week ahead of the visit, she said that China's interactions with Russia quote will be a determining factor in U China relations. Underlying stress the goal of quote derisking trade with China, a somewhat softer touch than the American rhetoric of a decoupling, but still strong enough to convey her concern for protecting European interests.

"Very happy to have Jamie decker, hi Jamie how are you? I'm good. Thank you for having me. My pleasure. Let's start with this. You are a first time feature filmmaker. Where did you come from? When did you get interested in making movies? I always loved movies and especially when I was a teenager. I started to get really into different types of movies. But I was also always a photographer and a writer. Like I was even writing poetry as a child and taking pictures as a child. So it kind of felt like a perfect mix of all the things I really loved. Who are the people that you responded to, artistically, as a young person? I mean, probably very known people because that's just what you're exposed to as a child. I remember being friends with Annie Leibovitz's niece and getting to meet her and see her photographs and be like, these are amazing portraits. You know, but then I also remember being a teenager and seeing like Napoleon Dynamite for the first time and being like, oh my God, you can make a film like this. So it was all different things. I know palm trees and power lines started as a short. How did you study film in school?

"Lot of fun. I don't know what people want. I don't either. That's what I want. Is I want Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, unrecognizable, and extremely weird, Jared Leto. And Al Pacino, yelling at each other in Russian and or Italian accents with a macula clothing from the Gucci archive and homes around northern Italy. I want to soar. Jared Leto is really, I'm not really a huge fan of his, but he was extraordinary. Yeah, film. I thought driver was arguably, at least the most sane aspect of that movie, and a lot of it hung on his shoulders, and I thought he carried it. Most people didn't agree. Didn't do very well. That led to white noise, which was perhaps my most anticipated movie of 2022, a movie that I liked, but did not love. I think is considered not a success. And that's too bad too. And so now we couple that with 65, and we say, okay, Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker a net, the last duel House of Gucci, white noise, 65, this is kind of four years of great stuff? The pandemic is in the middle of that, which is I just think, unfair to hold against anyone because it not only changed how movies were made, but it changed how movies were released and how people received them. And I do think last school and House of Gucci in a different climate find find more us in the world. You know what I'm saying? Find more grown-ups who just want to go to the movies. And or appreciate the absurdity or the efforts being made in that respect. So looking to the future yeah, what do you want? That's my take on this podcast. You put this whole thing together. I mean, this man made another Noah baumbach movie, adapted from your favorite novel.

"To bound back for the meyerowitz story. Movie I love. Then Logan lucky with your boy Steven Soderbergh. Did we mention soda? No, we didn't mention some of her. I'm sorry, Stephen. In 2018, he gets his first Oscar nomination for his role in BlacKkKlansman. He was tremendous in black men's men as detective flip Zimmerman. He helps Terry Gilliam achieve his long yearned for desired his desire to make the man who killed Don Quixote, a movie that ultimately I think didn't work either, but he basically was the vessel for funding, and that's obviously something you can do when you reach this level of status too, as you can get movies made. He made the report in 2019 and the dead don't die reuniting with Jim jarmusch and then marriage story for which he was again Oscar nominated. Now let me tell you something. Yes. I rewatched that one last night, too. Have you watched that one since you became a parent? No. I was on the floor. It's so good. And so brutal. I remember that. I remember being also particularly brutal to the city of Los Angeles, which is the city that I saw. Yeah, but that House is so good. I just spent a lot of time really coveting that house to me to where it is. I assume it's like somewhat palisades. It's so beautiful. At this moment, after marriage story was released, I saw merit story at the Telluride film festival that year. This was also the last great film year, an amazing time for movies. My reaction to it, and we did a long podcast about marriage story. Was like this is it. We have the guy. We have the actor of our generation. He's about our age. He has incredible taste. He's Oscar nominated, but also is appearing in incredible franchises. This was right before The Rise of Skywalker came out. And ever since then, it's been a little tricky. It's been a little dicey, I don't know if the stock is down. I don't necessarily take issue with any of the choices that he's made since then. But they're worth examining a little bit more closely, okay? Okay. The first one is obviously the Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. I think he had a choice in this. I believe he signed up for a trilogy and a trilogy he made. And that film doesn't work at all. No. And the resolution of his character is offensive. And also that is your character. Yes, it stinks. And it's a real letdown. That's her name? Yeah. I don't think we're done with ray is something I'll point out to you. I think we will see Rey again in some capacity. His family is back on the Mandalorian or whatever. No, she's not. In fact, The Mandalorian is

"You know, you're like, why does that deal with anything? But I will say that it's Adam Driver and he's on a beach, and there's a horse. And he's running and they're swimming. So like, he runs shirtless into the water and the horse runs Shirley's into the water. And some point he gets on and there's like a camera underneath. The water and which I have to say is kind of the coolest part of the whole thing is that there's this camera underneath. So you have this footage of like yes, Adam Driver swimming, whatever. But like, of this horse swimming from underneath, and that's pretty rad. I mean, that's the, yeah, Adam Driver cool, you're like underwater swimming and you're really muscly and attractive. But what's really cool is the horse, the video of the horse actually digging in, but then there's the end. And then there's the end. So yeah, at some point, Adam Driver gets on the horse and rides it. But then they add cuts out to this like blurry image of what clearly is not a person on a horse, but rather like a centaur. Adam Driver. How morphs into the horse and this makes you want to buy cologne. Yeah, and a clone called hero because apparently when you run next to a horse on a beach, swim with it and morph into it, you become a hero. I don't know. Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but again, it's visually very stimulating, so for sure. It's one of those things that when I would love to be a fly on the wall in the writer's room. You know, like how did they pitch that? Thank you for joining us here at burberry. So I have an idea for a new cologne. It's called hero, and what we're going to do is we're going to put you running on the beach and you run into the ocean and then horses are going to run into the ocean. And you guys are going to swim around and frolic, and then you're going to turn into the horse. Man, that sounds good. Sign me up. Why cool? What? Okay, cool. Well, I mean, and again, and I think as horse people, we of course are like, oh, like the image is really cool, imagery is really cool, but then I just don't understand. It doesn't but again, it doesn't matter. I'm not going to buy the cologne, but I appreciate the commercial. I appreciate the attempt. So another article you guys had was talking about gifts. Oh my God, the picture you posted and found this amazing. But it's gifts that non horsey people give to horse people, which is anything with a horse on it. And I have to admit that somebody on Facebook, of course, there's always the Facebook Karen, who is like, I don't know, maybe you guys missed the part where you should just be grateful. And Karen 100%. Thank you for thinking of me. You're nice..

"Good for you. Well, I don't know if you're gonna get that or not because I don't know if you've been in a little while. I know. I understand. That's common. I should have made like 700 of them. So I don't think but if I give it away, I don't get to keep it. That's weird. Anyway, but it's getting dang vanilla. Well, I think that's a great repressed about the forethought because that doesn't have enough. Thank you. Yeah. Because it's cyber Monday and I'm like, I've got to do all the rest of my shopping. That wasn't an insult. That was just a fact. I'm impressed that you actually thought, wow, thought crossed your mind. That's amazing. All right, let's go to the end. We haven't had her here for a while. From her station. It's time for TN from horse nation. We are so happy to have you. Remind everybody what state do you live in? I am in Pennsylvania. And I know that the end of November is a really lovely time in Pennsylvania. So tell everybody where you are. I am currently huddled in my metal barn that is not insulated or heated. So if you hear me sniffing, like I just did or if you hear a vague kind of fan in the background, it is because I am actually wedged between two feet bins with a little electric heater that I only plug in when I'm here. I love the dedication. I love this. Good job. We're so proud of you. I mean, just being in Pennsylvania, what is life like with horses this time of year up there? There's a lot of mud. And my horses tend to be out more than they are in, even when it's cold and they're just used to it. I have some who I believe would kick down the barn if I tried to keep them in. So as a result, I have one who is in right now with an abscess, because I don't own my facility. I don't really have the ability to create a designated dry lot for inclement weather or things like that. So we kind of just have to make do. So I have a lesson to give in about a half an hour and after I get off with you, I get to totally de mud my horse's legs. And scrape off the dried mud from rolling. And it's super. Mud season is awesome. It sounds really fun. Do you have like a hot water water here in there? Are you just when you say you sprayed off? Are you just so great? Scrape. Not spray. There is no hot water. This sounds really fun. It is, it is. Let me tell you. Oh my God. Well, if the people in the world would like to warm up a little bit, you guys posted a video. And yes, it's confusing. But yes, it's also awesome. And it's the Thursday video, which is Adam Driver on the beach with a horse. Okay? What are the advertising? I don't even know. I mean, I guess they're advertising cologne. And this is not anything against burberry or like their marketing team. But I have to be really honest. I don't totally see the connection between the video and the connection between commercials for fragrances. I remember watching one of the guys from lost jump off a boat into the ocean and they're like, rather in glue..

Lady Gaga's 'House of Gucci' Is a Bust

"Let's talk about the House of Gucci. It's getting killed by critics. And that has to be killing Lady Gaga because I think she's gotten addicted to getting great or near great reviews and her acting work. I mean, I don't want to see her in fucking Tony Bennett saying, I know what's coming on in the next couple of days. I've been seeing ants for it. I'm not paying attention. When is it on? Where is it appearing? I don't want to know. I just think it's so silly when a young spry pop star sings with an old decrepit man. I love Tony Bennett, but no one can listen to his music anymore while he was alive. But he didn't die right. He's almost dead. I forget. I know he's right there. He stops singing. He retired. Thank God. You can't keep singing people. I mean, do you just want to see him walk on stage and say, hi, I'm Tony Bennett. Is that all you care about? You know he can't hit those notes anymore. Just get his albums. Don't make the guy sing anymore. But Lady Gaga did this thing years ago, okay, Tony and Levi, okay, great. It's a cute novelty thing. Enough. But now she's in the House of Gucci. And look, I love that she's Italian. I remember when she was named Stephanie germanotta and she was a hostess at a restaurant in Greenwich Village called Palma. Great restaurant. She had this ability to sing that nobody knew yet. She knew, but she's turned into a magnificent singer and a decent actress. I like the stars born a lot. House of horrors, people dig. I haven't seen it yet. I heard it's pretty good with her in it. She did not nail this Italian accent. I told you the second I saw a preview. Nope, don't go near this movie. It's gonna be awful. It's gonna be so much of a charade, I said Adam Driver is too Jewish to play an Italian. I didn't know he was Jewish. To me, he looks like as my father would say, his face looks like the map of Israel. He just looks like a Jew. There's nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of people Dustin Hoffman looks like a Jew. Plenty of you guys look like a Jew and plenty of people look Italian and Puerto Rican or whatever. Irish. He looks a Jewish. I can't believe he's not Jewish. But he still mastered the Italian accent better than Lady Gaga.

"I had a friend Rebecca Henderson, who's another great actor who you guys should talk to. She was like, would you just try to be positive for one way you can see what happens? And life-changing. Rebecca, I don't have the brain capacity or time. And it helped, it helped. Yeah. Yeah. I also read those self help books. And I know it's cheesy and no, it's legit. That perspective, you can change your perspective. And I know an actor who said, who would say to somebody if you see someone in a good mood, what the hell do you have to be happy about? And I said, dude, I get it. I've been there. But you can't go on like this. You can't live in this darkness. And you have the opportunity you have the power to turn it around to gain a perspective to get grateful to do those things. I am so into that self help stuff. I'm so into that stuff. If you don't have that, you're just going off of what, you know, whatever you're feeling that day, you know? And I think that that Adam Driver thing too of like, I think for a long time part of what I was unconsciously doing was suffering because I felt like I needed to suffer more to have something to say. I needed to suffer more. Yeah. Be able to show up and have something to cry about. And Reed Bernie, who I absolutely love and I think is arguably the greatest living actor in the world right now. One of them certainly. His like, don't worry as you get older, there's just so much more to cry about. Yeah, welcome to life, buddy. You're like, can't wait. But it's like you don't need to you can you can have a happy life and still show up and explore the darkness. But you don't your whole life doesn't need to live under that cloud. Or you feel talented and like you have something to say. And it's funny, you know, you can do so much and you're always right where you're at and you think, got an really down and everything. We've talked about on this show. Sometimes you need that check in right now, I am, where I was only dreaming of ten years ago. What you're complaining about, you dreamed about? Right. Yeah, it's like you got to check in and see where you're at and everything you've done and go. I'm doing good. You know, this might be a shit week or a shit month. Maybe even a shit year. But sometimes you gotta look back at what you've done and go, man, I remember when where I am right now was everything I could only dream about and, you know, that important perspective of where you are. It's so important to do that check in every now and then. And seeing the opportunities wherever they may be. I mean, I think I felt like I just said yes and showed up to every reading I could possibly go to. And you know, it's unbelievable sometimes to look back and go, right. That one little thing, even though that didn't go anywhere, that person saw that reading and here we are all these years later, yeah, you don't know what relationship or what, you know, all the little things along the way, it's like the butterfly effect. It all adds up. Yeah. Let's just flapping our wings as hard as we can, you know? Yeah. Patch, you've experienced so much. And frankly, such a little time..

"Hey everyone, welcome back to cinema B's. I'm Monica. And I'm Tyler and we are here again with a special buzz cut episode. So buzz cut episodes are going to be where we see a movie a little bit a few weeks after its initial box office open release. And we're just going to do a kind of quicker review of the movie so that makes sense. Yeah, we're going to completely skip the trailers, just get right into the movie. There have been some movies this past year that we have been able to see in there was one recently that we weren't able to see, which is this episode's topic. The last duel. We were really excited for this one Monica, especially for one specific reason. Oh my gosh, yes. Disclaimer, I love Adam Driver. So, so much, can't even explain it. So anything he's in, I'm down to see unhealthy obsession. I'm in love with him. It's okay. It was very funny seeing her get invested in Star Wars because of Adam Driver. Truly, I've always been like, yeah, kind of like Star Wars. And then after episode 7, 7, I was like, I love kylo ren. I will die for him. I was one of the people in an episode 9. I was like, kiss. And then I kissed I was like, finally. Yeah, so today we're talking about the last stool. This was a new movie that came out about a week ago, I believe. So it came out two weeks ago, I believe with homing kills release. Which is unfortunate because so, yes, I have a special fact. I will say also really quick, I just want to remind everyone, we're not going to be doing spoilers for we'll give you a spoiler warning. So you're feel free to listen here. We'll just give you a general brief description of what we thought in the movie, whether you should see it or not, then we'll talk about spoilers. But anyway, this movie, because it released the same weekend as Halloween kills. It did not do great. It's really unfortunate. So the budget for this movie was a 100 million. Okay. Oh. Oh no, how much did it make? Opening weekend, are you ready? It's not okay. 4.8 million. They're just absolutely eating money. It's actually sad. And it's a long movie too. Now it's at 17.7 million, but still, that's sucks. I think it was, I think I'm not a movie expert. Movie marketing expert, but I kind of do think it was a marketing issue because I was telling a cobra kart like, oh hey, I'm about to see this movie, and he had no idea that this movie was even..

Movie Musical 'Annette' Is a Straightforward Story yet a Directorial Fever Dream

"Opera. Annette got this year's Cannes Film Festival off to a boisterous start. The crowd gave a full five minute ovation for stars Adam Driver and Marianne Cockatiel, also for the band Sparks, which composed the music. Our critic Bob Mondello, says that the festival audience going crazy kind of make sense because the film itself is kind of deranged. Before there's anything to look at on screen and there will be astonishing things to look at. We hear the voice of director Leos Carax telling us that he intends what we are about to see to be literally breath taking. Breathing will not be tolerated during the shell. So please take a deep last breath right now. Thank you, And then he gathers his cast. So may we start and they sing their way out of the recording studio. So may we start and into the streets of Los Angeles to start a story of odd couple, Henry and Anne entertainers of radically different temperaments. Henry calls himself the shape of God and stops the comedy club stage. I'm here to make you laugh tonight. A green hooded bathrobe, scowling and muttering at his audience. Yes, laugh laugh. Wow, I'm not sure I can do it tonight. I'm not sure I should. Even trying Making people laugh is, uh, disgusting. He means that alienating paying customers is his stick and has played almost psychotically by Adam Driver. Henry is good enough it insulting patrons. It's amazing. He still has any. But on this night, his rant includes the confession that he's gotten engaged to a far classier celebrity who's played by Marianne Courtyard. No, this ain't a joke so far. Yes, and different throw stuff. What's wrong, Lady and in me, you disagree. Why is she too Perfect. Yes, I and I some loads some insect. Okay, I'll accept that

The princess diaries was real. Outdoor lockers actually exists in this world listed. You have outdoor lockers in la. Yes every time was out. Now was the quads or the lunch shipley. Everything was half outside. You have to walk outside to get to really. we've talked. Yeah y'all outside wasn't kind of so i mean. We work on the studio lot like now. I know that that's how you it for work too but like it just as you again. Like as a child in indiana. That's insane that's really thing i've ever seen in the and then i also this is the worst for me and we may see this this week. Where are the reunions. And then the stalled chat for this movie. It's the twentieth anniversary of an incredibly popular movie with huge stars. And like i wanna see anne hathaway zoom college julie andrews our content so far is it just because it's like doesn't want to do it and there's no one else i don't you know so i don't think so a now's the time to do it. She's getting up there and age. I know i just need. I need to low all the behind the scenes content. I need to see like the fun. I don't care if it's like dumb. I'm not usually reunion stuff but like for this. I yeah totally so. I'm hoping we get that this week. Yeah quickly the mvp. I have a case for the p. e. teacher which is obviously you'll mvp of the movie. I just want to give her a shout. She is comforting mia as she cannot say catch a ball she cannot hit a ball hitter in the head of the softball. She doesn't care he's comforting. She is the one who drags her out of the paparazzi frenzy. When the changing tent falls over and was like in a towel she helps her. Then why see there. Sorry why the party okay. He eats you know the teachers are everywhere. The fucking at the softball practice. I don't know what's happening. many ways. She doesn't end up failing here them. You can't do shit in sports. And i just wanted to give her a quick shoutout to the teacher. Who's your mvp miami piece julie andrews. She is my queens. She's literally the city she can do. No wrong i will ever forever. She's melia. I'm going to say what a great breakout role for anne hathaway. You know absolutely hilarious in the greatness. Yeah awesome lover lightning round. We got two quick things. Is this an hathaway's best role gay kate. This ties into amelia. Was just saying she's so funny. Charming inns movie. But she's also seventeen and it's like her first big so i'm gonna say her most iconic roles i'm gonna say yes princess diaries but also like she was just sort of getting into the full extent of her power. So my personal favorite. Anne hathaway movie roles. I'd say princess. Diaries then ellen chanted and i love that movie then delaware's prada and i was like i haven't seen her oscar he rolls or whatever talks about like rachel getting married like i have no input on that but Those are three most iconic roles in my opinion amelia thoughts. I'd yes i love. I love her in this movie. I love this movie so this is her best role. I'm it to devil wears prada but only because she's like bitch in that best secondary character. I'm giving it to sandra. Oh because she plays the school principal and the line when the queen and she an acquaintance coming to grove high school. I didn't. I know that was from this movie and i talk. Recently they're capping. The queen is coming. I'd no idea what you said it. I was like. Oh my god. I love the delivery. Good sales in secondary character. My favorite secondary character. Like i said before is joseph My guy hector lozano. He's warm and comforting. Yeah that character that she needs as a bridge between me and her grandma. He like helps both of them. He's just a great guy. I really comes to save her at the end when she's crying and he's like pulls up in the limo. He's he's gotta amelia your pick The hairdresser his little brief cameo has always made me laugh out loud funny at the time he had. He really did most of it okay. We're moving on. We got to unanswerable questions because they already did mine earlier in this episode. Amelia go ahead. Yes so recently it i. It trended on twitter Someone took a picture of con- as Donde listening party Which occurred on july twenty second and they had like a list of everything you could buy to eat and one of the things on this list which was like very expense. The question is what is happening in the atom driver horse perfume. At and why if you've been on twitter in the past as you've probably seen drivers new burberry add. He is shirtless. He's running on the beach. He's next to a horse. The horse and atom dive into the water. They're swimming powerfully next to each other and just happens for a while and then is of a centaur. Actually adam driver standing in front of the horse look entire but it very clearly as a centaur like he turns into a centaur weirdly sexual trauma and i just like have a lot of questions about like what is happening. I also. here's the thing about perfume ads. First of all like adam driver i think is attractive. Like has a certain sort of rugged appeal I know that he hates everything about this. I will. I wonder how much money he made because must have a lot. He's not the type to do this second of all. He doesn't have the voice for perfume ad. Like you.

"Neither does really was. I think she more is just sucky. As a person mia gets a makeover comes into the car and the lease like who destroyed you like bit she looks great. Mea is talking about howard. Dad died and she's still kind of torn up lily goes. I thought you were getting over that. It's been like two months. Billy is trauma. Man has liars on patient. Yeah she sheets on our nice bag when she starts getting again the royal treatment and then there's this moment that she has his makeover she reveals her hair her nice shiny straight carrots and treatment hair and her whole class is complimenting her. I thought that was. I was like. Oh my god meawhile mia and then lily interjects and goes well. I think iraq's and i'm like let everybody compliment her. She gives me the star second But she thought that was like protecting her anyway. She's very jealous. I think it's because your cable show reaches twelve people. They said it's fine but she just has a character is like you know she also has just like really annoying help and i think she has a lot of insecurities that she's working through. Which like you know. It's time it'd be hard. It would be hard to be best friends. The stunningly beautiful fifteen year. Old and hatheway. Shame who. I think we like seventeen when she Film but yeah tough. Lily is really tough to take. She's probably really going in the book too. I don't remember. But at least that's i don't know correct got sam anti michael to bullies mother. Lilly's brother is the main you know like romance of this movie. She watches ban and like he just looks like a beat. Like a good way. But okay. I mean it's if he but he has no personality he's supposed to be kind of like the nice guy next order like she realizes she's in love with over times. Yes when i kiss with him he just like is not attractive to me. Which would be fine if he had a personality but he doesn't and i think he's a really tough love interest he also shows up again in the next movie usually get out of here like pine is here now about that. Oh i got that next week. But he slicks his hair back at the end of the movie and he looks so bad. And i can't deal with it. And i think i would've liked this movie so much more as a teen if i was at all remotely attracted to michael. But i'm just not wild. Sorry sorry i'm gonna get more personal because my main low light for this movie is that i am on the zoom call. I'm looking at myself. And i literally look exactly like the before picture in the makeover montage of this movie and i just know that i can trace literally like twenty years of glasses. Curly hair thick eyebrows. Insecurity like back to this movie. And it's really tough. This is probably why. I strained my hair for the last twenty years and browse your in came comments beg-to-differ if you wanna see instagram saying the people themselves actually take years many years to get over it but yes i appreciate that just saying that i think just the makeover montage in. This movie looks incredible. Yes you know especially after they just. There's just like something about those before. Pictures where mike. Wow this is has taken me many years to make peace with you just plays into every like stereotype of like oh glasses and yes i do believe like a good blow out like can change your life. You walk out of the sun. You've got like the straight shiny bouncing hair. Like i do believe in the power of a good blow out so like you know. Maybe it's it's true. We'll see i'm still working through it. But that's my main low light is that i've i've had to overcome. Yeah those insecurities because this movie. What's your main low light. I am going to talk about. There's a scene when she's on this date with josh. We'll talk about later And he's the guy of her dreams and they go to a beach and there's like it's like this weird like trip back into like nineteen sixty five. It's like various. I don't do that anymore. They go to like a band playing. And it's like okay cool sure But anyway they start kissing and then she or no. She's changing in like a little like side tent and they throw up. The tent and the paparazzi are outside and they're snapping pictures as she's freaking changing like she's getting naked entries changing out of her swimsuit in fifteen and i look i kid you not. I remember like crying in the theater watching this because it made me so anxious. And i just felt for her so much. Like what an invasion of privacy. Okay it was. I just hated that scene and to this day. Plus the people really at the hands of this were like you know the quote unquote man writing character to sidekicks. And i ask like assist. Always like irredeemable even for like you know the mean girls they were setting in hathaway up to be like photograph nude rights ranging out of a baby zoo and it almost at the time like high. Those are the mean girls. What that's what they do but watching it back. I was like what the far- i now they would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Beyonce ladda data in montana again Yes i agree. That was a bit too. Even are finding this okay. What is the best in the worst. Go ahead amelia yes. We'll speaking of amanda moore my girl mandy. I've loved her forever. This was like the beginning of her acting career. She's gone onto other roles. She is in the hit. Tv show that. I don't even watch. But you know i respect. What's it called. It's called Business this is us thank you. I'm sorry and yeah she's just you know i just love her. I think she's great. She's like a double. I don't know if she can dance. So i won't say triple but w yeah we'll give the benefit of the doubt on the dancing. Okay on the flip side career wise. I know you wanna One specific actor one specific actor. Eric bond denton. Who played the hot guy josh. I loved him. He was a huge disney channel. Guy back in the day he was really attractive and then his career kind of took a nose. I think kind of by choice because it looks like. According to his wikipedia page he has worked for rosslyn capital as of twenty eighteen as a precious metals. Are which is a precious metals asset management firm and. He is now a sales manager. Yeah yeah. I think he just didn't want to career to accurate. Yeah he peaked. You know you're going to be like all never be in a better movie than the princess. Diaries subaru it is out of their last ones. Kate i gotta say this fits in what age the best or the worst but the concept of outdoor lockers. Watching this child in indiana. This is the first movie i ever saw. The had outdoor lockers. And i was like. How is that possible. Like where do people live where they can just have lockers outdoors legs. What happens when it snows. And i never saw these in person until i visited a friend in san francisco like two years ago and we love. Our high school had outdoor lockers. And i was like. Oh my god. The princess diaries was real. Outdoor lockers.

"Okay teatime is checking in with the summer games coverage. I don't wanna get shot down by nbc. If i say the word but the olympics okay so amelia handed to you. Yes so as. I'm sure everyone knows. Iconic gymnasts greatest of all time. simone biles She had to drop out of the team competition final because she got a case of the twisties which apparently is like kind of vertigo. For gymnasts and She just wasn't landing things and she lost her total like kind of not. She didn't lose her vision. But like vision of the apparatus and whatnot so like that sucks and she also cited mental health reasons. And i'm i mean like you know. She has all the way to the world on her shoulders. And not only that but it. She's an older gymnast. She had to postpone her olympic spy a year with the pandemic which i think was absolutely hard. Not only that. But there's still ongoing stuff involving the whole olympic sir gymnast abuse scandal and the fbi hand usa gymnastics. Just horrible and like i can't i would not even be able to compete so She did what was best for her and for the team and she dropped out and it was just really sad. I mean i feel bad for her. You know and i respect. And i think we all do her decision so much to do what was best for her and for her team so she is a true hero and not only that though unfortunately she also dropped out of the all around. Which was this morning. Because we're recording on thursday. And i and hopefully she'll be back for some individual events but you know again. She did what was best for her. And i honestly for the team. I think too and she is helping to de stigmatize mental health for athletes. Which i think is great and you know but there's some dumb bitches like for pierce what is i remember. His name mortgage morgan. Yeah you bearish your holiday toy attained like shut up. No one cares about you go away. They're not even from the us. So yeah so like you should be happy own. My god okay. Sorry well anyway. So that so dumb. People were angry but they don't matter And then they had to gymnasts one of them filled in jade kerry and another girl who had qualified suny lay and this morning which i woke up and then accidentally fell asleep halfway through because it was so early in the morning suny.

It really does seem like we are living in kind of a golden age of drifters and given that we have access to so much more information than ever before. Sometimes it's hard to believe that we haven't figured this out yet like we should know how not to get scammed and yet there is just something about our culture right now that seems to enable scams to take root. Our next guest is here to help us understand. What's really going on there gabrielle. Bluestone is the author of hype. How scammers lifters and con artists are taking over the internet. And why we're following gabrielle. Welcome thank you. It's a pleasure to be here so this book came to be partly because you're the reporter who broke the story about the fire festival for vice For those of us who don't remember or maybe just like blocked it out. Can you remind us what happened with that. One why in the spring of twenty seventeen. You know if you were an instagram user. At the time it was almost impossible to avoid the marketing for this music festival. It was posited as kind of a more luxurious version of coachella to be held on a private island in the palmer's reachable only by private chat or yacht and starring. You know some of instagram's most followed influencers like haley. Bieber bella hadeed kendall jenner And their co court and when it all kind of came to fruition. The ticket holders gone themselves. On a deserted gravel pit Development pit next to a sandals resort. There was nothing luxurious about it. The villas adrian promised turned out to be fema tense There were no musical acts whatsoever and they were kind of deserted there so you didn't actually go did you. now now. i was spared that experience. So what was the moment when you're kind of watching this unfold where you're like. Oh shit like this is going to be a book that i'm going to rate Well i think the the initial oh shit moment had to have been the cheese sandwich when that went viral that was just you know like a moment seen around the world and it was a very If you weren't there it was hilarious. Day on social media. If you were there it was probably the worst weekend of your life. So maybe with fire festival to specific. Like how do people get taken in by stuff is it. Just the idea of like hyper exclusivity doesn't well that's certainly fuels that feeling of psalm out. But i think it's like a perfect confluence of social and cultural forces right now. We are living in this very peculiar age of online performance. That i think really colors are offline experience. There was a moment when the the experience of events started to matter. Less than the way that you could reproduce it for others and so people were really primed for this instagram. Ready events like it was like the chance to enter into this instagram. That you could only follow up until that so to what extent do you think we're all vulnerable to that lake. I think abou- look what you've just said makes sense and i get it to a certain extent but also like you know i work for public radio. There is literally no way on earth. That i am going to be able to afford a private jet to a private island to a music festival. You know law and probably wouldn't even be something that you would be thinking about that you wanted or needed in your life going viral and once kind of someone is offering you entree into that. It's very difficult to make rational decisions you know for the most part. We don't feel like empathy our pity for the victims of scams not a typical human reaction. And that's in part because you know we all overestimate our own intelligence. And then also they're called scam. Artists are con artists for reason like there is an art to it and it does require a competence and charisma. And you know it's the same thing that we value in successful. Ceo's and leaders. It's no coincidence. That billy mcfarland got two documentaries and above ran scripted series. You know the wolf of wall street got played by leonardo dicaprio like we kind of day by them in pop culture and so there is that kind of element to it as well. So much of what you're talking about has to do with the fact that social media can be inherently pernicious. I wonder are you still on there. Though i am i you know i can't stay away but it's ingrained in us like what do you do when you're standing on line waiting for the subway and board. Yeah i don't know there's just such an irony because it's like i mean i know like you could. You could take some deep breaths like why would you do that if you could check and see if anybody. Dmz you on twitter or whatever it doesn't it doesn't hit quite the same way well gabrielle. Thank you so much for chatting with me really interesting conversation. All right. that's it for today. "In berlin all over the world and you show up and the first thing they do is they give you a wet wipe so they you wipe down anywhere where you've put on product or perfume and then you do some high intensity interval training like jumping jacks burpee fees and you work up a sweat at which point they give you a cotton pad which you tab in all the parts and put into a jar and the jar is numbered and only you know your number and the organizers your number and that jars put on a table and nobody is broken down. It's you know all gender identities all orientations all in a jar and you just sniff through the jars and find the body odors that speak to you and pick your top five and i know you i say your body odor attractive Put you in my top five and if you did the same for me Then we would be a match and we would get a vip bracelet to all you can drink vodka cocktail lounge to get to know each other. So yeah yeah. It was very fun. Oh yeah. I'm trying to picture that happening in north america and it's difficult to fathom that that that sounds exquisitely russian. It was really fun and you know like they're also insecurities there. I talked to all all sorts of people Who you know. We're talking about yeah. I'm kind of excited about this. But you know i'm i'm worried There was that is a different level of vulnerability. Yeah i dates usually involved. You know what the success rate is for the. No i i mean there is like i followed up there is Oh my god. There's kind of anti success rate. So when i i met a couple at the beginning who had come and they were an established couple. And they're like we're going to find each other through the nose yet again. And i'm like oh. He picked her but she didn't pick him for her tom. But later in the vodka. I ended up matching with A really lovely woman who also matched with an another guy and so he. And i were sort of like play fighting over her But yeah there was this one couple and they relate so sweet and kind of like gangly and very young. And i was like okay. There's some chemistry. Oh that's really well in that is like kind of literal chemistry exactly so for people who read this book like what are you. What do you want to take away to be for them. You know. I kind of want to take away to be that. When you're sweating it's your body doing. Its best to keep you alive so leg. Dial down the stress style down the anxiety and just appreciate it for what it's trying to do. Seals pee on themselves to get wet enough to evaporate away body. Yeah i think next time. I find myself very sweaty. I'm just gonna be like. It's.

"Our next guest is sarah adverts. She's a journalism professor at carleton university and her new book is called the joy of sweat the strange science of perspiration. Sarah will come to know that it's great to be here. So the title is a nod to the joy of sex rate. It is sort of a nod tonight. Yes it's also just a nod to sort of the unexpected take on sweat right and everybody's waiting on sweat and i think as a write in the book. We all need a little perspiration pep talk. Yes which. I'm really excited to have with you. But i do think we need to start with some of the mechanics of sweat were one of the only creatures that actually sweats right right. It's kind of human superpower actually in terms of Evolution's way of you know bequeathing a down strategy. It's actually one of the best in the animal kingdom because it's no efficient right. So what happens is well first of all you've got blood swirling around your body and when your body overheats a gets a cool down directive and all of your sweat glands start sourcing sweat from the watery parts of blood. It's called. This thing called interstitial fluid and then dispatches it to your skin and your hot body evaporates away the sweat and whisks the heat away and meanwhile you've got all your blood vessels that have been pushed up against your skin and hot blood from your interiors whisking by and being cooled by that and if you think about our human history most of our prey sprint way faster than us all right but they have to slow down and stop to cool down so they don't die of heat stroke. Yeah so we can chase that prey. We may not be running as fast as it. But we'll catch up forcing it to run again and then run again and run again and you know the modern day equivalent is you know running marathons. We can run for many hours and not die of heat stroke. I don't know about marathons i mean. It's like that sounds miserable running a marathon. But i see what you mean. The idea is we can run for a very long time if we have to wait for some reason if we want to right so what. Are you interested in sweat. When did this start. So there's sort of like three reasons. The first is a lot of people. I have always sort of worried about my sweat. I wondered if i sweat too much too soon. you know. I do squat pretty fast when i'm in any workout. I'm always the first person to reach for my towel. Like even in the warm-up during like hot yoga you know. I am already dripping. And i know you're supposed to be super zen in your downward dog but i'm like looking around seeing if anybody else's dripping so like i thought to myself at some point you know. Listen i'm a recovering chemist. I used to be a scientist a science journalist. I i can learn more about this cool thing and i had known that evolution narrowly. It was like one of the things that distinguished humans. So i thought okay. Let's dig into this and see what we find an. Oh my god. It was so much more interesting. Thought i wanted to ask you about something. You wrote in the acknowledgement section. It's actually the first people you think is every person who told me about their perspiration shit. I'm imagining you like at a cocktail party or something and someone's like so. What are you working on these days. And you're like actually. I've got this book about sweat. And they're like oh my god. Let me tell you about this crazy thing. Is that what it was like. Yes that's exactly. I started calling you sweat confidential. 's no i would mention. I'm working on the book and people would be like. Oh and they'd like pulled me aside my partner sweats behind his knees and puts like anti per sprint. But only behind me because the other knee doesn't sweat but ailing wisely you hear all these wonderful Incredible stories and questions people would ask me questions that i had never thought of. And i'm like oh. I guess i need to answer it in the book. So yeah Yeah i really. You know i i am kind of making light of it but i also appreciate you know the people who really just shared their insecurities with me too. You know yeah totally. So do you think when people ask you or talk like shared their confidential. How often was it like based on your research. Am i normal. So it's really funny because you know sweating is the same universally human also super dramatic. I mean if you about it like we've all got like between two and five million wetlands. I have three. i got my counted. And you know there's this lake sudden you know flood that happens and so it is a little weird and disconcerting and i think if you think about all other bodily fluids or things. Your body does that. You don't necessarily want to have happen. You have a small amount of control like you can hold back a burp or fart or p your poop for a small amount of time enough for you to like. Find yourself some privacy. You knew he needs to shoot yet is completely out of our conscious control like when your body gets the cool down directive. There is nothing you can do and humans. Don't like to be out of control. And i think that that's partly why were a little bit insecure about because we know we just don't have any control over it rate. That makes a lotta sense. And of course you talk about how that insecurity essentially as propped up in preyed upon by the antiperspirant industry which is massive and worth billions and billions of dollars. But there's a flip side that you talk about in the book that i thought was really fun and that is smell dating. Can you tell us about it. I would love to tell you about. I know this is like the most. Well there's some surreal other surreal moments like doing the wave naked in a very large colosseum-like sauna but that was not. That's not moscow. Moscow was Sweating event where the premise is that you know. There's all sorts of reasons we find other people attractive and end up with them for a date or for our lives. But you know ultimately you're going to sniff their body odor and it's going to be a make or break moment and so why not you know cut to the chase and get that out of the way as your triage for for partnering up and then later see if the other stuff works out andom so what happens and i did this in moscow but quite honestly these events have been held in new york city in rio.

"This is i'm greg johnson. We made it to another weekend coming up. We're going to hear from someone who literally wrote an entire book. All about sweats. Everybody's always hating on sweat. And i think we all need a little perspiration talk and then will unpack the nature of a really good scam. They're called scam. Artists are con artists for a reason like there is an art to it and it does require a competency charisma. I'm you know it's the same thing that we value in successful. Ceo's and leader is but i it's our panel on the week that was with us this week. We've got jacoby cochran. he's the host of the city. Cast chicago podcast. Koby hey thanks for having me back. Those i two topics now interesting good. I'm glad you think so. That means i made a good cell right We also have with wbz political reporter. Maria will full mariah. Hello thanks for back to so a huge story from this week. Obviously was the release of new cova guidance. From the cdc. They kind of backtracked on what they said a couple months ago. They said that masks should be required for everyone. In public schools and in indoor public spaces and areas with high case counts whether or not you're vaccinated. I'm curious mariah. I mean you've done a lot of reporting cova and vaccines knowing what you were. You surprised by this week's news. Oh i was not surprised at all. I did stop wearing a mask for a little bit indoors like when i was running into cvs or walgreens vaccinated but a couple of weeks ago i was. I made the decision to start wearing a mask again indoors. And i think a lot of people around me started rethinking that as we've seen cases rise and especially as you know we're still trying to figure out what breakthrough is look like and how max native people might Spread this to unvaccinated people who can get you know severely ill from cova still It didn't didn't really surprise me. I started texting friends and family over the past. Week like hey. I'm wearing a mask again. Hope you aren't you so no. I wasn't surprised. Especially you know. we've all seen the. Cdc is not afraid to change guidance. Ray reagan and so it's it's unfortunate and i just. I hope that everyone like puts their frustration aside right now with this these changing guidelines and can just like he an eye on the prize and once again change. Are you know i. There are people who never stopped wearing amassing. They probably feel vindicated l. Sure yeah. I mean i want to be really careful not to criticize the cdc partly because they think it's really important for them to you know like as things change as new variant arises and spreads more virulent like. I think we have to be really key you know. Of course the guidelines should change. I think the thing that gets me is that there's just enough vagueness around all of it. That is just really complicated. Like mariah the fact that you're you know like you have taken upon yourself to decide that wearing a mask as the right thing to do and you're telling your friends and family that you know i mean that's really important. But how nice if the cdc just kind of did that in the first place you know jacoby. Where are you with the masks stuff like are you. Are you wearing one indoors again. These days I'm right there with both of you in my confusion but also my recognition it. I kind of had a feeling this was going to happen. So i wasn't shocked but i am confused about you know the cycle that it feels like we're in that we can take a couple of steps forward a couple steps bag you know with the original variant cova. We recognize that it started in another country. Started to proliferate before really taking hold here we kind saw the same thing with the delta various right we saw it taking hold and other places and yet we started to move forward we start. Tell people to relax and at that point when they told us to unmask. What was it. One percent of all cases were related to the data vary and now it's close to eighty three percent and so yeah. I took my mask off for a while. I always keep a mask on me right. Always got out me When i'm in the grocery store. But if i'm in a story when there weren't many people i was taking it off but i don't mind on the mass back on despite how uncomfortable it makes me because i do want people around me to feel safe. Do people around me to feel comforted tonight To not think that. I am Sorta just lackadaisical with with what's going on we've been covering you know updates and cova our entire time on city cast and i'm trying to my best to to follow the guidelines as they move but You know we listen to dr alison. Are woody the commissioner of a chicago department of public health. Sometimes she's along with the cd to see. Sometimes she's saying we're not there yet and that can feel very confusing totally and other big story from this week was the house committee investigation into the january. Sixth the tax on the capital we heard from four witnesses. They were all either capitol hill. Washington dc police officers. And they testified. I mean it was really intense. It was there was brutal detail about what happened to them. I'm curious if either of you watched it or listen to it. Mariah did you. I listen to a little bit on and off just the work day and yeah i mean i definitely teared up. It was really difficult to listen to emotions in the aftermath. That he's officers have are dealing with now and I think it was important for the public to listen to the experiences of that day. An months out now. I mean. I'm sure there are a lot of people who just happened sooner. Bunch january feels just like a world away from us right now and so two to kind of re remember what you know the extreme events that had happened i think was a good reminder to everyone about like where we are as a country and the like ugly truth that we still face. Yeah i think that's a really good way of putting that jacoby did you watch or listen idea. Watch some of it and listen to the testimonies what what stood out to you. I i hate to be negative here but honestly what stood out to me as the space that it's taken yes. The large you know. Rhetorical spectacle of attack on democracy. And you know they were protecting democracy. I mean they were dealing with the consequences of democracy shortcomings. And i'd like to see just as much attention. I'd like to see congressional members crying as they listen to the testimonies of people who are getting to ask beating st last year during the protests. Yeah by people in the other side. So while i emotionally you know took in those testimonies and i feel for those men those individuals and what they went through You know i. I can't help but also see the political pageantry of it ought to see you know illinois representative adam kissing her sitting up there in doing his sort of preparation for gop stumping. You know and so. I know that if those weren't officers on the other side of that mayhem we wouldn't be listening to them in prime time i also as i watched it because it was the same thing i thought the day had happened as i give me if the people who look like me and my friends were out there would. They have accepted as much as they took. Yeah would we would. We have gotten on the other side of those doors. And.

"Dear. Oh, white beard makes me a jolly good Well, a little. Yes, it does not like the other. That's going out to Dave spoke where he said, Hey, How about Look? Tom T Hall? I like beer on this thirsty Thursday, a annoy idea of the day. Jennings had that I think's brilliant. Yeah, there aren't too many th artists know you could tweet us. And you could also get us on. Facebook was know what alcohol song you want to hear. As we get close to the weekend on this Thursday Thursday, I guess I could have taken the Super Bowl halftime Act the weekend and made it through the weekend. There's the weekend Thursday that we can't Thursday. Now I tell you remember, because we often do this. It's it's uh Dwight Witten and Dave Jennings. Tony Vanity is out. On vacation. And normally, when Tony goes out, we kind of do this. We put a theme and we put it to music and we do it on the day. We did hear Tom T Hall Tuesday was one. The first ones we did, and boy I forgot what a treasure he is. Man. I'm telling you, I think our most popular one has to be Tony Orlando Tuesday. I'm just thinking and then I love that we discovered that one of the dawns. Is that from right here in the Louisville? Yeah. Yeah. What's the Valley Hospital? Believe Telma Hopkins. Is that that the Dawn? Yeah, that's the dog. Okay, Let's talk about Hollywood for a second. Do you who Adam driver is because I did not. He's not a big enough actor where I would know. Hey, Adam Driver. He was the original Batman chauffeur. You're going to need you, Uh, take that rim shot back. Oh, come on, man in the jar. Okay, Adam driver. I had no idea who this was. I had to look him up. I did recognize the face he was. I just watched this turd of a movie called The Dead. Don't die because I have a Bill Murray in it. But evidently he was in the newer Star Wars movies. Um, I don't know who he played or what he played. Uh, he's a tall, dark haired guy you might know him. If you seem But again, it's not a Gene Hackman is not a It's not a Mel Gibson somebody that you would think not even a Minnie driver, right? Right, right. That was that was every village as a chauffeur. So can I take the five bucks back? Take it back. I'm even We all know the house always wins with you anyway, though, But anyway, Adam driver I He's not a celebrity in my eyes where he would deem this behavior will be gob validated in any way not to this validated with anybody, But you would think If something like this happened, it would be from a Mel Gibson or whoever you know somebody big someone that we've heard of right the later half of this story about the first half AM drivers in some hot water. He's been accused of attacking his co star on the set of a 2017 movie. It was a Portuguese Portuguese actress. Her name is Lydia Franco. She claims that he physically assaulted her. When it wasn't even part of the scene. They were just shooting a scene. And he starts, you know, roughing her up. Well, she turned, she turned to the staff and the staff sits. Sorry. Our hands are tied with this guy, but you could leave if you like. So he tied them up first. No, their hands were tied. The staff couldn't do anything. Here's Here's why. Um Evidently before he even arrived. Part of his contract had it with these clauses in the words like you can't look at it and nobody can look him in the eye. No, my word, and that goes for all the actors and actresses along with it. This is especially the extras if you're an extra on this film If you if you glance over him, you're immediately fired. Uh, evidently, it's not the first time he's done like this diva behavior. Uh, there's an NPR show called fresh Air, and whenever the host just played a clip from his movie He got up and walked out of the interview. Oh, this is the guy that played Kylo Ren and the New Star Wars movies. I don't know. I didn't see the new Star Wars movies. I tried to watch the first one in like he's Han Solo and Princess Leia son. Is he really? Yes. The only movie that's all looked him up in the only movie that I saw this guy in. He was opposite of Bill Murray. And that turd of a movie that I just I just told you about the dead Don't die. How do you get to the point? I understand some of these musical acts and their riders. Sinatra always said a famous when it was literally just cases of alcohol. But the spinal tap made fun of that with the folding a little sandwiches properly and that sort of thing. But how do you ever get to the point? Nothing that those stuffs right of you can't look me in the eye. You addressed me this certain way I How do you get there? Right. And, you know, uh, Steve Harvey Supposedly there was a clause, you know? Hey, don't talk to Steve Hari, you know, on the set of a black hole, Come on, Steve. But I can kind of see that. Here's why he had a radio show. He did family feud and a TV show with something else. He's stealing jobs from other people a lot of time because he also does the New Year's Eve thing. Two on one of the channels that's like Steve, take a rest. I'm saying, Steve Harvey works really hard. And when you when you're when you're stretched that thin oftentimes you don't wanna bes with people walking down the hallway and people just Hey, working hard or hardly work and then say, Yeah, You know what you're doing this weekend, so I could see people doing Yeah, but as far as the riders go with outlandish things like we need tube socks this next y Z Um David Lee Roth was famous for that with Van Halen. It was for good reason because their production was so huge. That if it wasn't done right, they were endangered. The band would be in danger. So in the Ryder deep in the Ryder, they did that. You know, both of them and ends with No green. Eminem's whatever was brown evidence? What? Eight. But the reason that was done that way is if they walked in They were in the dressing room and they check those bull of Eminem's that was very deep in the rider. And it was correct. Chances are they got the electric the structure and everything else correct. But if not, didn't look out, Let's go ahead and check everything else out. So Eddie's thinking, Okay, get the stack of Marshall's behind me. If there's a green Eminem in there, they're going to.

"Some celebrities who served in the military that you might not realize since it is veteran's day we have Tony Bennett. He was drafted to the Army and the final years of World War two was right on the front line. Nice. Did you know that Robin Quivers was in the air Force from 1975 to 78. I think that you forget these things. Yeah. And then we also have all just their sons up. Rob Riggle, Clint Eastwood. Adam Driver, of course, was a Marine on DH. Top 10 Performers of the 2010s

"Actually I am kind of I write poetry Snow Book Secret Notebook or your poet. Yeah that's great but you like to hear what sure sure it doesn't really Ryan though. Okay kind of like him better when they don't me to all right so we've heard your number ten. We've heard my number six Adam driver. Who's your number nine performer? The decade? Okay boy this hurts me because it wasn't too long ago I was asking if this was the best actress of the twenty tens and I still think she's in the conversation but Elizabeth Moss. When I sat down to do this list fell down to number nine okay and I think for me. It's it's partly again. I'm backing into the list here. It's partly because her strongest work was on television. I don't know if it's fair. We're a film show so I'M GONNA hold that. It's not fair okay. It probably isn't yet to discount the handmaiden and madman but you're right if you include those. Then how is she? Not One of the performance of the Dick and Jane campion's crime series top of the lake. Yeah so so you know those three works alone in her work in them specifically I mean madman. I made the argument. She's as crucial to that series. Almost as crucial. Let's say Don Draper. She was the lead in in Top of the lake in the lead the handmaid's tale but I look back at the big screen to and The one I love I think great in. I know you love the film more than Me Adam but the collaboration with Alex. Ross Perry's Ben. My favorite thing about those including are probably hurt toured force performance of the last. Ten years is in her smile. I think just from last year and then yeah squeezing in that great supporting part in US last year as well getting to show her comic chops I had to keep her on this list but when I started comparing her to the filmography we're going to get to higher up. Yeah I couldn't put up there at the very top. Yes same process with me. Though she slipped a little further I did begin by ranking top ten actresses top ten actors then figured out how to merge them and go made the cut. I Have Elizabeth Moss in my six through ten actresses but did not make my top ten overall. My number ten is an actress. And this is one where you could accuse me Josh of maybe looking ahead a little too much but I think the foundation of great work in this decade is also there. She is the only other one that woman I'm about to mention. She's the only other one with driver who feels to me like locks. We could already pencil them in for when we're doing this list in ten years okay. We're GONNA look back on the twenty twenties and go. Of course. This was the decade of Adam driver and of Sir Sha Ronin the three great performances come in Brooklyn in Lady Bird and of course last year in Greta. Gerwig 's little women and there's two great films there for me all time great films frankly in Lady Bird and little women. I'm less high on Brooklyn though I like Brooklyn quite a bit and I really do think. It's a wonderful performance from her. She also appears of course in Wes. Anderson's Grand Budapest hotel and I really liked her in Joe. Wright's Hannah for me. Ronin is the insistent innocent. There is some naievety about her. As you look at those performances Brooklyn ladybird little women but really just a lack of experience. There's the census. She still has a lot to learn about herself and about the world and relationships. She's going to make mistakes. She's GonNa make a fool of herself but that's because she's always going to put herself on the line there is a determination and there's a voracious nece to Ronin characters that I find really appealing. I was looking back at my notes from our review of Lady Bird and I mentioned the way she just kind of burns with this intensity and this focus. It's almost like she's from another planet in the way she talks and the way she studying the people she's engaging with there is this provocation that is inherent to the lady bird character where she's just so eager to expand her knowledge her base of knowledge. It seems like that's what she's after in every encounter in life and maybe more than anything. Josh the reason why I wanted to make sure I fit. Ronin on this list is I just want to continue to put out into the universe. This idea that I did see floating around social media after a recent Hollywood reporter with Ronin and Greta Gerwig where they talk about future collaborations with each other. And there's a great question by the interviewer posed to Gerwig about working with Ronan and differences in working with her now versus lady bird and I thought Gerg's answer was really instructive. She says it's the benefit of working with someone you've worked with before. I felt like in some ways I had conceived lady bird before I knew she was playing it and I'd written drafts of little women before I knew she was playing it but I don't know any other way to say it. Except she was an author of Lady Bird but even more so she was an author of little women. I felt like she knew exactly what we were making the whole time as a filmmaker as much as an actor she really became a second director for me. It was like an extension of every thought. I had she'd walk out in another step. I think honestly the closest I've had to it is writing. With Noah Noah Baumbach who is her partner. But that's fitting of. Gerwig I think in her personality that she so generous in giving Ronin all that credit as an artistic collaborator but I think it speaks to the intelligence and again that voracious nece that comes through in her character's it's probably embedded within ronin herself. That made her such a good collaborator with Gerwig. And the key line from this is Gerwig saying I'm interested to see what movie we make when searches in her fifties. And I'm in my sixties. WoN'T THAT BE INTERESTING? And I'm thinking that's great but I want to see the movie that you make together when searches in her thirties when searches in her forties. I can't wait until the fifties I would be perfectly content of those to just continue to make movies together until the end of time. So Sir Sharon did just sneak onto my list ten. Hey I like your band with Jona rubies. Len Fans knew awesome.

Oscars 2020 Preview

"HI everybody. It's Peter Travers. Here here with this special edition of Popcorn which we're calling the Oscar popcorn because this weekend on February ninth exactly everybody will be watching. Being the Oscar telecast on ABC and probably having their own little ballot. Like I have here trying to figure out who's going to win this damn thing and if the person I don't like winds pushed I put my money on. That's what really happens. That's what people ask me on the street. So I'm GonNa take you through these main categories and and we'll see what will win what should win and we can argue. You can find me somewhere and we can argue about it. But I'm going to start with with best supporting actress. Because that's how the Academy Awards those that's always the first award that we say Kathy Bates in Richard Jewel. Laura dern in marriage in story Scarlett Johansson in Joe Rabbit Florence Pew in Little Women and Margot Robbie in bombshell so look. There's it's a lot of good people here and I have to say right at the outset. That Scarlett Johansson is one of those rare actors that has a nomination as best actress. Chris and best supporting actress marriage story for Best Actress in here supporting which usually gets you to win one and that usually that it's usually that one but it's it's not going to happen you know I'm sitting here saying did I read wrong. What happened to Jennifer Lopez and hustlers? Hasn't she been in this game since the release Lisa Hustler she has and yet the academy you bad people have decided that J.. Lo just wasn't Oscar material while you're wrong but look we we have to deal with rats here and I'm going to say that the person who will win in this category is also the person who should win. And that is Laura Burn and Laura dern in marriage story plays a divorce lawyer and she's a tough one and let's think of all the Hollywood people that are voting for this award and how every single one of them I'll wager. A BET has their own divorce lawyer and has been through this process. Maybe more than once. Maybe two we're three times to do it. And they find Laura Dern Dunn's in this movie something spectacular it's also one of the few awards. I think that marriage story story is going to win. But Laura Dern has never won an Oscar. This will be her first time. Everyone loves her. We all love and big little lies and I think this is her time on so let her have it all right. I'm moving onto best supporting actor. Tom Hanks in a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Anthony Hopkins in the two popes Al Al Pacino in the Irishman Joe Pesci in the Irishman and Brad Pitt in once upon a time in Hollywood. Look you're talking to a big Irishman fan here so if it was me saying come up for the gold it would be Joe. Patchy I know Joe Pesci doesn't do any publicity. He basically sticks fix to himself. He's probably tough guy in real life as the gangster that he plays in the Irishman but that performance is amazing and won won his first Oscar for another score says he movie goodfellas where he was the most scary gangster. You can see here. He's kind of quiet dawn. So if I'm I'm giving them it would be Joe Patchy but the academy is giving this award and no one. No one can win. This except Brad Pitt. These other people here Tom Hanks Anthony Hopkins Al Pacino and Peci all have won Oscars so they already have the gold. Do you realize his full career. Brad Brad Pitt has never won an academy award game over people. This is it Brad. You're going to get in once upon a time in Hollywood playing a stuntman. It man playing somebody who's been around the business. I think it's irresistible for Hollywood to say I'm going to reject one of my own. Plus he was great in the movie. You seem to hear my voice that I have a little bit of a problem. Yeah I do. Because that's not a supporting performance at all that his part is the equal who of his Co Star Leonardo DiCaprio's WHO's nominated for best actor. So why is he in that category. I think they want to win. And Brad you might as well prepare repair your speech right now okay. I am now moving onto best actress. Cynthia Haribo in Harriet Scarlett Johansson in marriage story. Sir Sharon in little women. Charlie's Sharon in bombshell and Renee Zellweger in Judy. What Best S. actress award so far from the Golden Globes to the critics choice awards has it Renee Zellweger one? She's won all of them. So is there any possibility ability here for something else. I mean. Look what Charlie. Stern did in bombshell. She not only plays Megan Kelly. The makeup geniuses have made her look exactly exactly like her and Charlie's has talked exactly like are they love bio pics there so she should be really strong. Social Ronin is like twenty five years old. She's he's on her fourth Oscar nomination. This is incredible and Scarlett Johansson. Like I said nominated for best. Supporting actress and Best Actress. Cynthia revolt is playing Harry Tubman and she also wrote the song from the movie which is nominated. That happened to somebody last year. Didn't it yes it was lady. Eating Gaga Lady Gaga was nominated for writing that wonderful song from stars born and his best actress. But what did you win. She won best song and that was it so I have to say that again. I would give this award person late to search for Ronin just because I think to be that young and to be that consistently brilliant is amazing and her performance in little women. Is that good. But it's Rene as I talk about. How Hollywood would love bio-pics this is? Judy Garland that she's playing judy. This is one of their own. Did they ever give. Judy Garland her own Oscar Competitive Competitive Acting Oscar. Never and I think for that reason not only will renee Zellweger win best actress but she will win for Oscar. Judy Garland on never had. It's their way of saying Judy. We love you. We were so stupid not to give it to you. And we're going to give it to Rene in honor of you. This is how Hollywood works. It's really crazy. But if you're betting on this you have to bet crazy. Aright best actor Antonio Banderas in pain and gory. Leonardo di Caprio in once upon a time in Hollywood Adam driver in marriage story what came Phoenix and joker and Jonathan Pryce in the two popes. I look at this category and before I get into. Who Will Win and who should win? I've I've got to say academy what you have against Comedians. And what do you have against Eddie Murphy. That he's not nominated for Dole. Might as my name what you have against Adam Sandler who proved his dramatic chops in uncut gems. Like nobody can believe and yet they have it they only like to give Oscars to actors serious actors who played comic roles. Ause they hate anybody who's making a living as a comic to actually win this war so this year's been going along I've had this feeling that this was Adam drivers to lose that performance in marriage story is one of the best things he's ever done or that I've seen this year and yet there's this other guy and who's that other guy he's Joaquin Phoenix plane joker. Sometimes there's that kind of performance sometimes. There's there's one that just so dominates the screen. That is such an act of immersion of from an actor in a raw. Yeah Joaquin was scary. He was sometimes funny. He was always touching even though he's playing somebody who's totally out of his mind and a lot of this movie his in his mind. What Cain has been nominated several times before and never one Joaquin? This is yours. I can't believe any set of circumstances. Stances if you WANNA bet the whole house on something and somebody to win it's going to be Joaquin Phoenix as best actor for joker game over all right. We're ready now to move on. I'm going to best director now. This is one of the most exciting categories because these people will these particular men and save and because Hollywood as wont of decided that even though there were more women directing movies than ever before four last year. They couldn't find any to nominate which is of course absurd because Greta Gerwig directed little women which is nominated as best picture and they. I thought no I'm just GONNA do five men like we always do what happened. You people sort of learned a couple of years ago when you nominated Greta. GERWIG quick for Ladybird didn't give it to her. But you nominated her. The KADEMI is ninety two years old. Now how many women has given an academy award for directing one. And that's Kathryn Bigelow for hurt locker. Ninety two years one award hang your head in shame name anyway not knocking any of these men that did get nominated. But there's one in there that I would sacrifice for Greta Gerwig but you you try to guess who that is anyway. Here they are. Martin Scorsese the Irishman Todd Phillips. For Joker Sam Mendes for nine thousand nine hundred Seventeen Quentin Tarantino eighteen. O for once upon a time in Hollywood and Bung June hope for parasite every one of these guys you can make a case for. Martin Scorsese Z.. To me is a master the grandmaster who only has one Oscar for directing and then the Irishman is doing some of his best work. Ever Quentin Tarantino. Not No with once upon a time in Hollywood is also a peak form and yet I'm saying this category is going to between two other the directors one of them being the South Korean Vong June Hall for parasite a Foreign Language Film. That seems to have got everybody excited about what's possible and then Sam Mendes for nine hundred seventeen a world war one movie that is constructed to look like it was done in in one continuous. Take how do you resist that. You don't even though I think they would really like to give their best director award worked. Bon John. How it's going to be for Sam Mendes for creating a war movie like no war movie we've ever seen before so sam I think think it's yours but if you're getting out there and you WanNa go to Bung Jun Ho? You know you might do it because there's always a surprise in these contests we can't go. Oh by what the odds are we have to go by sometimes the academy saying I have an instinct for this. I have a feeling this is the right way to go all right last category. Are we ready best picture of the year Ford versus Ferrari the Irishman Joe. Joe Rabbit Joker her little women marriage story nineteen seventeen once upon a time in Hollywood and parasite here is is the one you know every year I do this. It's between one or two movies this year. I can't reduce anything to to the Irishman my estimation a classic one for the ages. Martin Scorsese. Ed Is Best Robert De Niro Pacino. Joe Patchy making a mob movie about old-age age about the end of a mobster. This is the punishment that they get for the lives they live. There's nobody in their lives there alone. It's a tragedy Quentin went and Tarintino. Once upon a time in Hollywood is writing about Hollywood in the sixties and about a time that he thought was the last creative burst of Hollywood Hollywood and doing that. Nineteen seventeen again the World War One movie shot to make it look like. It's one continue steak and parasite a movie about a Korean Rian family in which they exploited the people they work for and then are exploited by the people working for them it is a classic. These are four incredible classics. So what am I gonNA do. What am I going to tell you? What's out there that you have to say? This is the winner and I'm going to go with with all excuses. No excuses in fact to my love for the Irishman. But I think this is the year of Quentin Tarantino. I I think once upon a time in Hollywood being a love letter to Hollywood and being voted on by people who live and work in Hollywood Quentin Tarantino despite right brilliant work with pulp fiction inglorious bastards reservoir dogs Django unchained has never won a Best Picture Oscar or a best director Oscar. Never it's never happened. What better time than now? When he saying Hollywood I love you? I think it's time Hollywood to say to Quentin Tarantino. I love you back back. So you've got it watch the show and afterwards we'll have a discussion.

'Parasite' winning best picture would make movies richer

"So the nine best picture nominees are of Ford. Vive Ferrari affordably. Ferrari is Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the story of Ford trying to build a car to beat Ferrari in the lemond race The Irishman when is the Martin Scorsese Film. which is on Netflix? That you might have heard. It's three hours long. Gioja Rabbit is TYCO I. T's story about a World War Two to that is the one with the where he plays a an imaginary Hitler. If you've heard a joker of course Joaquin Phoenix as the comic book character. Sort of little women which is little women you know Little Women Louisa May alcott and book adapted by Greta. GERWIG marriage story which is Noah Baumbach. Big divorce film with Adam driver and also Scarlett Johansson nineteen seventeen which is about two young men in World War One cent. On a very dangerous mission started by Sam Mendez once upon a time in Hollywood Hollywood. Is Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino's story about the Hollywood of the very late nineteen sixties and parasite which is Bongino Jin. Ho's Really Fascinating story about two families who come together in a very unexpected way Glenn Gimme a quick will win. Should win on best picture. I'd be happiest with parasite movie that just gets better and better. The more you think about it I'd be okay with little women or once upon a time like movies I'd be a little disappointed if it was Ford versus Ferrari for reasons you can hear more about in the full episode and if it is the joker I'll scream into a pillow Because I kinda hated that movie the oddsmakers have nineteen seventeen winning which is surprising to me. Because I like that movie but the best picture of the year really. It's Oscars sensitive from war movie and it's kind of a traditional Hollywood movie in some ways but then at the same time. It has the kind of showy element of having the you know. Made to look like one shot. I I will just go next and say I would pick parasite and you know. I'm going to stick with will win parasite because the last time. I had a tingling feeling that it was going to being upset. It was moonlight backed off at the last minute. So did the telecom. I robbed myself of an opportunity to look smarter than I am. So I'm going to say will win. Parasites should win parasite. I'm okay with nineteen seventeen. I think there is some lovely filmmaking there. I admire fire the accomplishment of it Bob. What do you think will win and should win? I think one thousand nine hundred will win because it's just everything seems to be driving that way it didn't start out that way. What's interesting sting is at the front runners? Initially were supposed to be Once upon a time in Hollywood and the two from from net flicks Irish marriage. I'm sorry Mayor Story and those have kind of disappeared from the conversation. I think it's safe to say none of those have a real strong shot anymore. I would love to see parasite win. Yeah Stephen Anything. I'm in somewhat of the same boat. I would be thrilled of parasite one I would be thrilled if a little women one. I love that movie so so much. I went on record in our resolutions and predictions show. I predicted addicted. That once upon a time in Hollywood was going to win best picture. It seemed like everything was coming together for The Oscars love movies about the magic of movie. Making it is is a movie about old Hollywood. You know who else is old Hollywood. Everyone who votes for the and so I felt so much like and also Quentin Tarantino. Not No he is an Oscars favourite but he typically get's nudged over two screenplay and then doesn't win best picture best director so I really felt like he had an enormous amount of momentum going going in but I agree that nine hundred seventeen seems to have kind of swooped in and picked it up and I. I really liked that movie a lot. I admire that movie a lot. I would be perfectly content content and satisfied to have it win best picture but this time next year it will take me thirty to forty five seconds to remember what won best picture unless it's parasite unless it's it's parasites will be talking about it for decades. Well I think I wrote about this a little bit if you subscribe to our newsletter which is at NPR dot org slash pop culture newsletter. I wrote about this last week but I do think there's a chance that will be parasite partly because the opening up of the best picture category. which originally was talked about as a way to bring? In kind of popular blockbusters that are also of quality. Got A lot of talk about the dark knight and things like that but it's actually done is bring in more smaller films and foreign right language films so eventually it's GonNa Happen. That one of them is GonNa win. Might as well be this one. I think it might be this year. I think people just like that movie. Yeah and the fact that the US preferential voting for this cat this particular story. COMP look it's way too complicated to get into here but basically what it means is if people liked parasite recite for example enough to what it number one number two or number three. It's got a better than average chance or second. Choices have a have a better than average less polarizing films. Do you better than the ones that everybody likes. Even if it's not their favorite

Adam Driver Hates Watching Himself in Movies

"It'll be interesting to see during the Oscar. TV Show exactly how Adam driver reacts when they play a clip of his best actor nominated performance because he hates seeing or hearing himself on screen so much that a few months ago he walked out on Terry Gross in the middle of an interview for fresh air when she played a clip of him which surprised me because when I talked to him in two thousand thirteen he was indulgent as we watched one scenes from the TV show girls. I did ask him why it made him so uncomfortable. I mean lots of reasons I just forgot why look like to was reminded in my God. That's what you have to go through that But mostly because I feel like If he was gonNA continue if it was going to kind of go on that You know I came from a theater background or you. Don't get to look at the end result or what what is actually being a Brosseau. You just have to do your homework than As much as you can then show up on the day and be open to something being different or not knowing the answer and I think think in things that I've watched in the past one I would just obsessed about them for months and drive myself crazy after you saw your work of things that I wanted to fix and change your or do over again in an obviously you can't and and same thing with the people around me. I just drive them nuts with like ask him quite so we would just couldn't wouldn't it be allow you to like. Oh next time and I won't do that or get better the next time. I don't think it's necessarily a good idea. Just kind of seems to be what I think. I have a natural tendency to try to make things perfect or better looking or Change it for the sake of changing at arbitrary Changing making it look better in the things that I'm interested in an watching in film theatre and television role is the imperfect or the ugly part of it. I just know it myself. Especially while we're shooting I have no interest to see what is coming

A Review of "The Rise of Skywalker"

A Review of "The Rise of Skywalker"

"Welcome to the twenty minute movie review. Today's movie is the rise of skywalker in movie directed by J.J. Abrams starring Adam driver Daisy Ridley and company with a run time of about two hours and sixteen minutes. This review is certainly a very emotional one for me This is a movie. I've been waiting for for some time. It's the final chapter in the skywalker. Saga which spans over forty plus years. You know. I remember going to see my first when I was about six or seven. So you can kind of calculate how old I am from that But I gotta say without sounding cornball or cheesy. This is a very tough goodbye. There's a lot of things I'm GONNA touch on. I'm trying my best to keep Leonard Twenty minutes. This is the only one I have a lot of trouble with because I have so many thoughts We saw the movie on Thursday night a day before it opens up nationally. And and I have my awesome star. Wars Park on I have my beautiful Star Wars crocs. Yes I said that correctly star wars crocs Fox they are phenomenal but it was a Thursday showing nine fifty match three. By the way. If you haven't seen a movie that way okay. I cannot recommend that enough I max an three d together are just. It's a whole different ballgame. It's it's amazing but it's so refreshing to kind of look around around and see all these passionate star wars fans just here for that last chapter to here to say goodbye it. I'm not saying it didn't feel like a funeral. Oh it felt more like a thank you and thanks for everything. Thanks for the memories. That's the way I certainly felt and I could tell other people kind of had that same mentality -ality except for the kids sitting behind me. You know drinking talking sporadically throughout the movie. Please and I've said this a lot if you go to the movies and you feel like you're one of those people that can't shut their mouths. You can't stay off your cell phone please. Just don't go stay home like this. Movie is one that people the winning for for years and years and years and you know these kids innocent enough. We've all been there but kind god'll just stay home. I mean I'm tickets are not cheap to begin with and to. There's so many people there because they there to say goodbye to this the skywalker Guy Walker. Saga they're there to say goodbye to this franchise. It's been their life. I mentioned my case forty plus years for so many years and for someone to think think they can destroy that and take that apart that bothers me. There was a few other issues in the theater. Not near me. It's like a re stuff online about people being on their cell L. Phone and of course there's absolute eight holes that on facebook wherever that loved to ruin movies and post spoilers and it's just I don't okay people like there's people that just seemingly loved destroying your joy that extends outside of movies as well and it's like you know go f yourself like you're not here I mean it's just it's a very sick mentality to have it really truly is and long story short they completely destroy the movie for us. I I you know you'll hear from I review what I think of the movie but I don't know I'll never understand people that go to theaters and maybe it's subconsciously so you don't realize they're absolutely destroying movie even when you're like innocently talking to somebody next to you. You know many times older people do this. And not realize they're talking out loud like for me the cinemas Mike Cathedral the church is Mike. If you dress where I go to just you know just just key decompress. It's a place of passion for me. It's a place of solitude for me I love it and for people to go there and kind of ruin that I have so many problems with but let's move on with the good stuff. Okay so the rise of skywalker emission as almost a two and two hour and twenty minute runtime and it did feel like Our saying goodbye to a friend and I don't know the movie looks phenomenal the movie itself when you sit there the movie just POPs off the screen it this so good so well put together from that point of view from just popping off the screen the way it looks it's Jj that's such a great job with that I I gotTa tell you what I loved about them. If you're right so that was one I love you. And you'll see that the force kinda takes a new level right. The powers displayed by those who have the force in this movie. Rise to a new level in that was awesome so awesome. I love the fact that the gang was all back together. That made me feel so happy to finally after all these movies. You See Paul and thin and you know ray together. It was really great C. Three Po rt to they're all Carrie Fisher to some degree to it so to see them together. And that's rewarding in itself you. You know there's some other things The Sixth Planet I thought was kind of cool. Little thing there. You'll see that when you guys go to the theater not again none of these. I don't think our spoilers or take away from the movie. Palpitation is really really scary. Gary and again you see him in the trailer. So it's not really a spoiler but Palpa Emperor Pal Patine went from a guy who is just flat out evil to now. He's it's just pretty much like the devil and I love how they did that. It was a so creative so wonderful so kind of original the way they did that. People like world. We need palpitation back in the movie. You could debate that. I love the way they did. It I thought I was worried coming into it saying. Why are they recycling? Emperor Powell between but such a great job in how they did it I WANNA say and I know people say this all the time when a great performance on three and like Oh that person she wouldn't award or that person should it'd be nominated that being said me being a hypocrite. Just now I'm GonNa tell you Adam driver in daisy Ridley both serve some type of recognition for this and I'm not talking about people saying how great I'm saying Academy Award Nomination Good. They are so good in this movie. I was not expecting it. I know they're both phenomenal actors actors. I was not expecting what I saw today. And I compare this to the last movie. I reviewed the Irishman. I know it's a completely different type of movie movie but acting is acting in these two. Were beyond any acting. I saw in the Irishman. Adam driver has taken it to another level level. He is just you know he is solid a-list at this point but his ability is is scary. Good I didn't realize he was this good. And boy support around display and boy. When you see it you will be absolutely rewarded for going to this movie? Just based on his acting alone. I love light speed skipping get being negative show a little bit of light speed skipping that is worth it so for all the reasons I just mentioned. It's one hundred percents worth seeing. And you have the phenomenal John Williams Liam soundtrack who has left us. You know we'll get Indiana Jones Star Wars. John Williams has done so much for us as a composer. You're glad it's almost like expect greatness. And he delivers every time. It's obviously his last movie. I'm doing a score for Star Wars and I love how they ended with John Williams composer her score. I love that he was so good and he has a and I noticed it because I listen to music. He has a brief cameo in the film. which is Kinda cool as bartender so beyond offer that that is John Williams? We'll notice that I noticed it because I'm a nerd It it was. It was a really kind of cool a little cameo but the music is just so good the movie itself up to this point. I can't recommend it enough. Go see it. It's just so oh good and if you if you're like me if you've grown up with this you have a legitimate passion. You have a legitimate love for this franchise absolutely to go see it because what I've listed in the first ten minutes of this review is enough to warrant you going to see this.

Adam Driver Walked Out in the Middle of His Interview With Terry Gross

"Do you feel that deal it. The air has changed changed. And we're now in the middle of a magical time in history. That's right Adam. Driver has somehow become one of the most famous people alive. How do I know this because it seems like? He's at the centre of different major controversy every single week. People Love Adam driver. People Hate Adam driver. I mean folks folks. This is the time to be alive. Today's Adam driver news revolves around him walking out on Terry Gross in the middle of fresh air interview that he did to promote his movie. Marriage story daily beast. Got The exclusive on this. They described the incident as follows and I quote sources at. NPR told told the daily beast. That driver walked out of an interview earlier. This month with fresh air host Terry Gross after expressing displeasure at the idea of listening to a clip of himself. Singing being alive from the musical company drivers character sings the song late. In Noah Baumbach New Netflix film marriage story and quote. Wow okay okay. So Adam driver walked out on Terry Gross. Because he didn't want to hear himself saying I mean that's kind of relatable. He also did mention before the interview. that he it doesn't watch clips of himself. Some people are calling him a diva for doing this. A lot of people are coming to Adams defense. Low calling his walking out on the interview a mental health self preservation tactic in Adam drivers October New Yorker profile. He discusses his anxiety over watching himself perform. The New Yorker wrote wrote quote. The first time driver saw himself in girls on Dunham's laptop he was mortified. That's when I was like I can't watch myself in things. I certainly can't watch this this if we're going to continue doing it. He said many actress declined to watch themselves but for driver that reluctance amounts to a phobia and quote depending on where you stand you either. Thank Adam drivers a diva shore. Like I said or you think he's someone with really intact boundaries. WHO's protecting his phobia or you don't care at all and you probably have a a really nice chill brain? That's not constantly thinking about Adam driver personally. I don't know what side of Adam drive her story. I'm on I don't know if there's a wrong or right side I mean I don't I just don't think about it. I really have to. I have to let this marinate if you are one of the people that's reluctant to make fun of Adam driver for walking out on this interview. That's totally fair. That being said surely we can all come together and make fun of Adam driver for how he used to eat. A whole rotisserie chicken back in the middle of acting class at juilliard. Right if you're behind on your Adam driver news and didn't know eater wrote about this a few days ago saying quote on an episode of the podcast. The film re Roll Drivers Juilliard Classmates Scott Yellow recalls drivers love for Rotisserie chicken to the point where he'd eat a whole one in class eater then unquote solo. WHO said quote? He would walk around school with an entire chicken in one hand and a jug of water in the other end quote. Can you just picture that a young young Adam driver walking into a black box theater with a whole chicken and a whole jug of water. I'm personally picturing the plastic jug of water that you get at the grocery store it kind of looks like it should have milk in it but it doesn't it has water and it has like the blue plastic top and listen. It's not like acting. Classes typically have desks so I'm guessing if Adam driver related eat a whole chicken in acting class he had to have eaten it on his lap the mandated chicken on his lap. Okay and we can all agree that that's funny and worth making fun of. Isn't it beautiful. How we all just came together like that I could cry?
