So a are a snowdrift rally coming over under the a r a banner for twenty nineteen I've been to snowdrift two different times. And I got to tell you this is one of the interesting motorsports events in North America. That's for certain. Yeah. Definitely definitely a little bit of a weird one. You know, just because it's so damn cold up there in I wanna say northern Michigan. I guess it's northern southern Michigan. But this one I last time I was up there was negative twenty and blizzard came in and it was bad like this this just a gnarly event. But tell you what the fans come out and force, man. Bonfire alley. You've got the gravel pit where they've got the super special like thousands of fans out there in the sub zero temps to watch this event man diehards up there diehard rally fans up there in Michigan. That's for sure. But anyways. Yeah. So Peter fatality. My boy. Peter take. Taken the victory there. He's won this event in the past before Cameron. "But that's what they're really about is it's about hanging out with these characters and I'd like Denzel on rainy. Enjoy watching compete, the shit out of people. But honestly, if I'm going to do that rather rewards the book of Eli. Listen, I had a blast that I gave it three stars, but in my heart, I think is probably a little for JIMBO things to who knows. You know which one of his rights who knows, it's me so can three stars. You haven't seen it. I'm usually device. I have a coin and you're gonna kill us with it. Why not going to set the timer for twenty. Toss the coin. All right. Yeah. Has this is how we write things empire heads. I'm right. This is tales. You're right. This is compelling podcast. I will I will come go and and watch watch the the film. film. How about the. You've already decided, you know, I had a bit of a helping. There is a bit with the helping guy. I don't remember the harpoon gun, but there you go. Toss the coin. Again, here we go. It's heads. I'm right. So three star saying for the cleanser too, and we'll be tossed the coin of the second Christopher, Robin, as well on this is a sequel to Winnie the Pooh. This is a very strange film only. I've seen it here. So I'm gonna talk about bravery briefly and this stars, you immigration as Christopher, Robin, who of course is the friend and companion of Winnie the Pooh and lose a Milne stories was if there was. What for thirty seconds and stroz into the hundred acre woods. Being beaten up by was to Robby Gordon's reckoning. So this is my Mark Forster, and this is this positive self as a sequel to winning the poo. So the idea is that the stories wanted to our real Christopher, Robin, as a kid did hang out in hundred acre wood. That was called never believed that was infra PU brain join up. I only became approve Ryan later life and he hangs out with with what's his face, the big the Honey. What are you is still shut coconut all the way through is absolately shared. Caulking, do not see the pupils. So it's a your tigger donkey. Does your. Kanga Andrea. He ran out of some point at some point meal. Stop giving shit about the names. Here's a bear who likes Honey, what am I gonna call him? I'm going, what are the the this donkeys, quite quite quite lachrymose. He's quite lugubrious what I'm going to call him your us. Good name. Here's a rapid. Fuck it rabbits. There's an owl. Do piglet piglet. Yeah. Well, here's the thing that bounces string take her. That'll do. Tiger. That's lunch in the mill. Anyway. So the idea that these are real and there's no way that one hundred. Fucking way. So Christopher Robin grows up and becomes you McGregor. He has a higher ground and he becomes he fights in World War One. I want to say one of the world wars, and then he becomes an idled and he begins to put away childish things, and he falls in love with the out well and they as daughter and he gets about Winnie the Pooh, but Winnie the Pooh still exists back in one hundred acre wood. And then there's a plot contrivance that gets when the poo back into the life of Christopher, Robin, just at the point when he needs just when they thought he was out..

"Find, here's the Thrilla. Thank you. Waiting for you? Yes, with the nostalgia stuff yet earlier, I don't think I could be. I don't think there's a movie from if there was a movie from when I was a kid. Let's say goonies. Let's say there was a character who is Asian American or I think Japanese, I'm not sure, but I'm assuming there's gonna be some racist stuff. Is there. There's a gun whenever they enter right. That was like, yes, yes. Like now. Now if if you like if you get notes back on a screenplay, they say, oh, you know, you gotta heightened the stakes. You gotta save the cat. All these kind of buzz freezing before. The only note was this character is Asian American. Can you put a gung. So yes, so it's all gone. Okay. I'm fine burning that. I loved it. When I was a kid, maybe it was a in the eighties. It was for whatever reason. Okay. To be racist against Asian people. We had a love affair with interesting, percussion instruments. I mean. It was the end of the prog era and all these leftover guys raw from here prog rock band had a Tiffany in it tuned drum. Yeah. Yeah, all the what are the like thirty little drum things that are that prog bands are now jam bands probably have thirty little dreamt the'd yes. Thirty little Trump thinks he understand. There's a point. Tell it. Thank you girl. The point is I'm fine leading the past die. There's nothing from my youth that I, that is so important to me now that I would that if there was something to on it, like what? Okay, here's a genuinely revenge of the nerds. Less like one of the scene stories you don't need. You don't need to. You don't need to describe the scene. We all seen it. Okay. It's a bummer. I know people enjoy enumerating those things. We don't need to let the fill bad things happening. I okay. So I'm glad you brought this up because it dovetails with my point about the film Christopher, Robin, duck tales with it. So do. I haven't seen Christopher Robin, hurricane. My opened. My just quick point about the only the only the only thing I think of when I when I hear that movie is I've driven by the poster a couple of times and it's, you know, it's like sad sack. You and McGregor and maybe like Phut or piglet from this peeking out from behind to say the tagline of the movie escape your past seven. Your past catches up with. The shooter on lunar your past catches up one. Hill in wishing Poon on spring break. John boss on spray key. Listen when when for Robin graduated college now tell him, would he the Pooh piglet tigger the whole game, the hundred acre wood your. They went onto the, we're on a boost cruise. Kanga. Well, here's what happened had a little too much to drink. Wow. And she hit her head and there were so many drugs on the boat. Yeah, they just decided to throw her off. And they made a pledge not to tell anybody who participate full body washed up on shore. Right? And that's when our movie. Washing up behind. It's like twin peaks for the hundred acre wood and children. Yeah. What a sinister and the looked creepy sooner or later your past catches up with you bring the whole family? Yeah, that's. I mean, are they talking about it could be that they're talking about winning the PU trying to deceive bumblebees shirts to get their Honey, but it can also be the could also drowning death of kanga on of blunt, but for travelling. But they're going to jail for dot, tried to help her. You sit up saying, that's the danger. It's not that they caused the incident. It's that they did nothing to aid because she could have lived what they discover when the body washes up and they conduct an autopsy is that she could have lived had she received medical attention or one of them actually had to have murdered her. And so then it becomes a mystery of Winnie one who is who is actually responsible right for her death. Right. It was rabbit..

"Knew that Christopher Robin was a terrible irredeemable father, and and that moment was when he knows all his daughter wants is for him to hang out with her, can't because he's got so much to do so little time and then Poos like come through the portal with me and he's like a fucking, I'll go to the. Rather than spending a second with his daughter, he goes, yeah. What's the worst that could happen knowing full? Well, there's no time difference through the portal. He's going to literally have some issues with time and he's still fine with. He's going to go through the portal and just, you know, reminisce with old bear rather than do the right thing, which is go and hang out with his daughter, which you could easily have done. He is a comically terrible father, like it is. It is hilarious how bad he is such a bummer. If you watched last year's goodbye Christopher, Robin, which was about his actual life about how his parents actually really sucked. And it's just, oh, it's such. It's not. These are not the things I wanted my head. I just I just want my little Pooh bear like singing about rain clouds and being, you know, balloon carrying little dope. I things there. But again, I I think we're, we're basically done talk about this, but it's just like the moment when other people see PU interacting with the real world, right? Jeff, like you've described it as a horror film, they're all linked. I agree. It also forces me to like re contextualised the entire rest of the film until that point. So PU has teleportation powers as well. Right? Because you can like e can open that portal. Like wherever I, it just like, I mean, does thinking power seems is just he has control over, which I don't think he does. Like if we're going to go that deep into the text of the movie, I think it's just that like I don't pretend to understand it something about Honey and childhood. I don't know what I was like through just just for clarity sake for the for the sake of our audience. We should step through the moments the what thirty years between the last time Christopher Robin leaves. And the next time we see Pooh bear there evidently has been a horrible. Series of events in the hundred acre wood. There has been some sort of perceived threats of of what are they called, but that would that is before that's covered in the opening. But this time because Christopher Robin's not there, it literally caused the destruction of all their homes and just als- toppled, right? Am I getting that wrong? I think they were all at a tea party in our house in the truth and the the house fell over. He made it sound like it happened before Kristie. You really minimizing the horror. Yeah, that's a question question. The whole home before. Christie hold on. Hold on. Let's finish making this point which is that this is a horrifying Jeff. Regardless of what has happened. The hundred acre wood. Let's not ignore the fact that Christopher Robin abandoned his animals, his stuffed animals for thirty years. Yeah, thirty years like just leads. Yeah, I mean, and we never ever see alll or rabbit again. I mean after they after the alums said. Yeah. Some of them. We see them again right at the end. Any Chrissy organ I wanted to ask you guys, especially Jeff, like, do you think this is a movie that children will enjoy? 'cause I was surprised at the screening. I went to often with Disney movies. You see a lot of kids there. I saw one. Glad you brought this up on my guy because I almost forgot to mention an anecdote. But I will..

"Sort of living this life of Christopher, Robin, where I have a young child and I'm. I'm here. I am podcasting in the evening where my child has to go to bed and I related to some of it. I didn't find it to be particularly. Morose or or pudding -ly. Melancholy. I just thought it. I thought the third act was was bad, but I thought the characters are all delightful that the design of the of the the, what is it hundred acre wood I, it was a vodka tive. Interesting and fun. And you felt like a little diorama world come to life? I don't know. I enjoy. I enjoy this movie. So Jeff, in this Nell, gee, if you're Chris, Robin, I am Mark Gaddis in the movie. I'm the one forcing you to do things from your children, right indeed you are and you actually working to and you're gonna make that point. You're you're golfing as I, as I toil away. I think this may be related. You often take credit for my. I think this movie is really weird guys. I think it's really it really is very weird. And I think the first fifteen minutes is so relentlessly depressing that it's unclear to me if the movie can ever fully recover from it. But just again, this is like I fifteen minutes. I feel like we can just say this. They basically murder a mill in the opening, which is really a bulb choice. But someone pointed out to me that he is not playing Christopher, Robin Milne even though the movie is called Christopher, Robin, he has who, and like he has like some incidences that also occurred in his life. Now, the death, a mill nut didn't happen until Chris rose was in his thirties, but like going to boarding school and he had a wife and he had one daughter and he served in the military and all this kind of stuff he's Robin is supposed to be. His last name is what someone pointed out to me. So it's Christopher, Robin, and I was like, that's so weird to me that you would make a movie about Robin and PU where like the. Books don't exist, and I just, I don't understand so many of the decisions that went into making this movie. So I think the opening is pretty brutal, but here's the thing. Ultimately, this message, it feels extremely similar to the Toy Story movies to me. Right? Which Toy Story, three specifically, I think which is basically about like cowed growing up in about moving past the time period when you're playing with toys, but then discovering that, hey, there's something really valuable about the art of play about wims ecology about having fun in your life. You know, Jeff, when was the last time you had some fun in your leg started working for you? Yeah, seriously. It's all downhill since then. Did not know what I was opening up when I just. So I think. It's fun necessarily. It's more like purposeless nece purposely play. That's what I mean. When I say play this idea of play as an end in of itself, like the idea of letting your mind wander of exploring things lead to something. Yeah. I mean, I think it's less even play than it is this zen idea of like, don't do don't do just be. That's what I liked about the movie. I it is. It is an odd message, but it's I found it to be lovely. I really liked that zen of it. Well, I also who stuff and I like, yes, when you actually get to spend time with the characters, I enjoyed that more even though I just couldn't settle into the look of them. But as you pointed out, like Jim Cummings voices. Great. He's done tigger Pooh for, I think all of my life. And so to hear his voice in those characters is wonderful. And the other characters that they bring in. They bring in like braggart and Peter capacity and plug ins and people. Philip voices. They're not switch imitations, but they are true to the spirit of those characters and all of that stuff I liked what I have issue with is I don't understand why when you have this collection of wonderful characters and you have all these lovely stories, you could tell you.

About, the spy movie yeah the. Spy. Who dumped me yeah I'm, sorry that does not look. Good No I mean it's a. It's a girl that kind? Of movie you. Know what I mean it's abroad competent Upon The general broad comedy that that that should hit a group of. People it's about a meal kunas as a woman who's done by her boyfriend who turns out to be a, spy and she has to travel to Europe to try and finish his. Mission and she brings along her best friend played by Kate McKinnon There's sort of this sub genre of movies that are the the comedy spy, movie we did that with the hit man's bodyguard last year and they. Did spy with most of them go down movie was hilarious Yeah I mean, I actually kinda. Like these, kinds of, movies. Because they run longer than your standard. Average comedy but that's because they throw an action sequences in there and then this one you've got our chases. You got him shoot them ups you've got you know explosions you've got people trying to escape. It they have bonafide action secrets hanging out of a, helicopter like Tom Cruise was last week or. This week still but still Action, movies and their whimsical enough of a. Of. A comedy, and if you like the people involved I think we'll kunas fine there's there's some good laughs, in there Kate McKinnon I can only take so much. Of her she's great, on Saturday Night Live and five minute, chunks but I. Don't think, her stick, moves. All the way through a movie I. Think she needs to sort of revived room refiner delivery to do features right yeah she's a little manic for, my taste Yeah Describing are so fine for date night movie or girls night. Out, yeah Works. The other one I saw Kevin was Christopher Robin Wright with the story it has guy the guy who's in Star Wars. McGregor Yeah Yeah he plays Christopher Robin after he grows up and becomes an adult and he's learned he's got thrown given, away sort of left all the childhood things. Behind he basically becomes an old fart you, know and he's leave to reconnect with his. Childhood and so the was, like, hey go help me by my friends and they go up to the hundred acre wood and actually new McGregor does a great job in it because he's able to BV no nonsense, adult but then also become sort of get that childlike wonder again without seeming overly cheesy and, I, it's he's great in the, movie but also? What what really makes a click are the the characters you've got? These, well, they're they're not live action because, they're they're, CGI but you've. Got You know we, need a and piglet and you're and tigger. And you've got all the characters from the, hundred acre wood showing up and when they. Show up it's adorable and, charming, and wonderful and brings you back to your childhood the the biggest struggles getting to that like first half hour where Christopher Robin's not the Robin we remember if just takes a little, bit of time but you know when when when your shows up kick kicks off the movie, and, in your ass all the, trailer right the? Last time at the theater and I mean the CGI of bringing? Those, characters, is really really good I mean, they good, job with that Yeah I think this came out of them wanting to Disney wanting to do a live, action Winnie the Pooh, movie and they sort of did the hook. Thing you know that movie with Robin Williams back almost thirty years. Ago but I, mean I'd love to see more just sort of hundred acre wood stories with just a just. Toys, I I'd be happy to do a whole new remake blustery day for the big screen as a feature, film and I. Would I would go see that without a. Problem, now, Kevin I just saw. That I guess this movie won't get released in, China which if you wanted to get that Margaret because there's like, whatever how many billion? People what's the reason for? That I. Heard I've seen that story just because the Winnie the Pooh character is like the the sign of government. Resistance it's like associated with that over. There so it's not, like you? Know China's rule Do you need a better? Resistance model Simple is Winnie the Pooh.

"It was so simple as so sweet it all to place in the hundred acre wood, which is the manner world. Chris Robinson matinee from what it's a direct throwback to the nineteen sixty six cartoon. Yeah. Yeah, it was. It really was which again was successful because of this implicity brilliant it. No, it really is gonna three deed in trying to just went going to do other animated film and new just writing. Perfect. Fucking loved it. No, I did too. And if I'm glad to hear that for you Billy because for a while, Martin can even recommend people because we tell people like what you'll negroes doing watching win. Seriously. It's one of the funniest movies that come out this year. It really l. k. trust you guys not trust you around my kids. I loved. I teared up during. Oh, no, it really was it really. No, it was a heart. It was a, it was a, it was endearing harp heart warming movie men and not only that, but it was funny. Yeah, it kept it a simpler time of storytelling. Did. Agree now with the with this here, you know, we brought the gang back pretty much for this new version of it all the all the ones you've seen. Like I say, we got the new these new versions of tigger, e or kangaroo rabbit. What is the name? I forget anything. Grab it. Piglet. She can see a change and much look dirty, which is fine. Man because I think they caught a while the sweet spot of the books and what what the Disney movies did? Yeah, they look more like they do from the original books, but the voices are all directly from the car. Exactly the the voices and personalities and tell you something this movie. I love just how dignified it was. The movie start out being told like it was a drama is directed like a drama. Yeah, it's, you know, it's still funny. It's still a family films has all these CG characters here, but it keeps his dignity by not being loud, but not being goofy, and they direct these characters like humans. Like if you look here like the second unit directing for CG character, PU, rubbing his hands over the over the blades of grass and bushes, and the cinematography is beautiful too. While the doing it. I was like, man, you know, you treated knees like you should treat these these characters, like real human beings. You're right. You're right away. It's film like that. It makes those character. Like where watching the trailer, I was like, oh no, many look creepy here. It's done such a way where it makes them so believable those, like, you know, this is actually really nice. I'm digging this look and I love the attention to detail where every character you can tell is an it's his collection of assorted stuffed animals that were all made by the same person. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. A lot of attention to detail is far as the artistic direction goes here. And you know something, I it just the, they had those emotional times where it just it just it just built real because. Christopher, Robin in Winnie the Pooh. They made me tear up man because he just feels genuine. When when at the beginning of this when Christopher Robin tells him and I'm not, I'm not. I'm not spoiling anything for this is the first fifteen minutes. The move when Christopher Robin's tells him like, look, I'm growing up. I gotta go to boarding school. I gotta leave the hundred acre wood and the gang I'm rig on Michigan's and you have to get on without me, Pooh doesn't break down all ally. Chris downtown. Now what he does feel like he almost doesn't quite understand what's being. He's, he's got a little bit of aspects, but he's always cool. He's very reasonable. He's like, he's like sad, but you do what you have to do. Chris. The motion on his base to Labidi is is like you can read the sadness in his face, but they don't want they don't. They don't milk it for melodrama. You know you, you read it, you, you do the work..

Hour on first light entertainment critic Kevin car I always have trouble saying entertainment critic Kevin car I don't know why that. Is anyway Kevin do you have anything that can give us a few laps this morning maybe a new movie good morning. Michael I grew up watching Winnie the Pooh and Disney cartoons and I always liked Winnie the Pooh as a kid Did. As I got older I grew to, appreciate. Winnie the Pooh even more particularly the individual characters of the stuffed animals? And how they all. Fit different, aspects. Of the human psyche we've had animated versions of Winnie, the Pooh we've had CGI versions we've had TV shows It was, only, a matter of time for Disney to put together a live action or what looks like live action because they're animated version of Winnie the Pooh the difference with this one is they take it from Christopher Robin's perspective not a actual son but the character of Christopher Robin after he. Grows up and becomes a no nonsense businessman and kind of leaves the world of silliness behind you McGregor. Does, a great job in the role playing the no nonsense father who then comes back, and rediscovers the characters in the hundred acre wood. And becomes a kid again and that's the real core of this is the emotional impact, that, you and McGregor brings to the movie now. The film itself is wonderful and charming and adorable when you've got the stuffed, animals the big problem is that there's, a half hour the beginning that's really tough to get through because you're seeing the depressing version of Christopher Robin you're. Seeing him not being a good dad you're. Seeing them weighed down. By his work responsibilities So it takes a little bit of wildest shake off that. Dust, and when you finally get to the hundred acre wood and you see tigger and, e or and piglet and owl rabbit and kangaroo. Fully realized again that's where the movie suddenly turns on a dime and becomes adorable and, charming, all right thank you Kevin car twenty twenty-seven..

Life because, he didn't want to be known by that this. Christopher. Robin is about the. Christopher Robin in the stories okay so, now, we're not we're not talking, about the real, Christopher, Robin, we're talking. About. The real Winnie. The Pooh Christopher Robin very confusing I, when, I saw the commercial for, this I thought, wasn't, this, already out Last year was about the author. And his actual son you'll. Life, story of the author and his real life you didn't love that movie no I didn't because we found out that his son hated him for putting them in those books because then he went to boarding school, and, got beat up for eight years because they figure out that was Christopher Robin. And then he was estranged from his parents for most. Of his adult life it didn't want anything to. Do with the winning legacy this is about this. Is back in the day hook member appear pan was played, by Robin Williams now he's grown up and he forgot he was. Peter Pan and then they went and. Got it back to fight captain hook so this is. More in that vein so it's about the Christopher. Robin of the childhood books so the movies starts off the hundred acre wood and we. See little Christopher Robin playing with piglet. In e or in all, in, rue and of course, we, need the PU then he grows up Christopher Robin and is now Christopher Robin who works in London and a suitcase factory and has forgotten all about his childhood until one day these on a park bench. Sparing how his life is not turned out, the way he wanted to turn Doubt and should be sitting.
