"Called a setback for D.C. today involving its new criminal code. President Biden says he will not veto a resolution that would block the new sentencing guidelines from being put into place if the Senate approves it. Joining us live from Capitol Hill is WTO's Mitchell Miller who's been following this for us. Mitch, this announcement came at a meeting today of the president and Senate Democrats at the capitol. What do we know that about this meeting? Well, the president met with senators for about an hour, and it was at their luncheon that he said he would not stand in the way of this Republican disapproval resolution as it's called if it passes. Republicans are highly critical of the changes made in the D.C. criminal code by the D.C. council and the president has now tweeted more of an explanation of his position. He says he still supports D.C. statehood and home rule, but he does not support some of the changes in that D.C. Bill, including ones that would lighten mandatory penalties for crimes like carjacking. The White House knows that if he vetoes the legislation, it could leave him open to Republican attack ads calling him soft on crime. Now D.C. delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has told reporters the president's initial announcement was news to her, but she had hoped he would make a statement like the one The White House has now put out. Certainly a preemptive action here, but we're not there yet. How soon could this disapproval resolution come up for a vote? And who are the Democrats who might join Republicans in it? Well, this vote could come up as early as next week. Tennessee Republican Bill haggerty, who's leading the effort to block the D.C. crime bill, says he has all 49 Republicans on board to vote for this disapproval resolution. They only need a majority. They don't need to overcome a 60 vote filibuster. West Virginia democratic senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat has said he will join Republicans, Montana democratic senator John tester who's up for reelection next year, said today he still reviewing the bill, but he's thought to possibly be another person who would vote for it. There are other Democrats in tough reelection races that may join Republicans, even Virginia senator Tim kaine, who's a strong supporter of D.C. statehood, told reporters today to check with him next week on his position. It's an interesting balance act the president has to do because he doesn't want to upset his democratic base, but as you said he doesn't want to open himself up to Republican attacks, especially as we're coming closer to the election. Speaking of, do we have a sense from this meeting where the president is on next year's election? Right, this was really what the meeting was all about. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer sought to put the meeting in a very positive light, noting that Democrats plan to highlight the legislative accomplishments of the president during his first two years in office. Schumer also maintains that Democrats are more unified than Republicans on their agenda at this point, but Democrats do have 23 seats. They have to defend in 2024 and Republicans are feeling good about their chances of retaking the Senate since they only need to pick up a couple of seats. Republicans also plan to keep hitting hard on this issue of crime as we move into the next election year. All right, Mitch, thanks much. You bet. It's WTO Capitol Hill correspondent Mitchell and Miller. Even though your traffic and weather on the 8s to Dave, dildo in the WTO view traffic center. In the district in the third street tunnel, a crash reported near Massachusetts avenue, D.C. medics heading northbound into the main tunnel right now from the at Acosta river bridges, volume delays on two 95, crash delays on suitland Parkway outbound toward the Maryland line and nail a road where crashes do often happen. On the capitol beltway, the latest crash is near Andrews and camp springs on the ITER loop between Allentown road and branch avenue fire rescue heading southbound on the itter. Otherwise on the beltway rush hour traffic building, nothing of late blocking, north of the beltway of Montgomery county on two 70, it is a very slow start to the rush from Rockville through Gaithersburg, the crash after Watkins mill road before middlebrook road, blocking the right side. 95 northbound, better out of Laurel, but still slow. They did clear the work zone between two 16 and 32. Baltimore, Washington Parkway, volume delays, 97 southbound south of 32, had one stopped in Elaine believe that's out of the way. No delays at the bay bridge in Virginia 66 westbound heavy near nutley one 23 and 28 in Gainesville, slow southbound on 29 between old Carolina road and 15. The remnants of a crash, three 95 and 95, your routine volume delays with nothing blocking the way at last report. I'm David WLP

"Michael. Traffic and weather on the 8s and when it breaks, let's go to Dave dildine in the WTO traffic setting. Getting more difficult on the beltway in Silver Spring on the ITER loop, heavy and slow now. The crash is after university boulevard as you be with airbags and blocking a center lane, but police and fire rescue arriving on scene blocking more lanes than that now on the interloop of the beltway beyond university boulevard, our big story in Maryland is the jackknife truck crash in Chevrolet, en route 50 eastbound, heading after kettleworx avenue and toward Columbia park road. You're only getting by the cleanup single file down the right shoulder. Outbound delays on New York avenue in D.C. two 95 are extensive at the at Acosta river bridges, major delays because of this truck crash in Chevrolet on 50. There is another serious crash in Frederick closing route 15, three 40, north and east of mount Zion road. That is where traffic is diverted. You can not continue into Frederick en route three 40. There are two vehicles overturned in this crash. Traffic heading out of Frederick on three 40 does get by slowly to the right in warrenton, Virginia. There is a major truck crash that is closing the southbound lanes of route 29, southbound traffic is diverted onto route two 11 business 29 through town, the bypass is closed southbound because of the rollover truck crash south of Metz road, both northbound lanes of 29 are now open. 66, we've got no recent crashes. We did start the rush hour with several, but lanes are open, the pace is a heavy steady into centerville, 95 southbound and Dale City. The broken down tractor trailer is now clear. I'm Dave del dine, WTO traffic. Let's talk whether here's Amelia Draper. Temperature is on your Tuesday evening in the 40s and 50s with overnight lows in the 30s under clear skies. Mostly sunny tomorrow. Eyes in the upper 50s

"And weather on the 8s, let's go to Dave dildine in the WTO traffic center. In the district from the hill in eastern market toward the susa bridge, eastbound traffic on Pennsylvania avenue heavy and slow. East bound across the at Acosta river passed two 95 and at Minnesota avenue southeast, police activity blocking the right lane and the right turn to Minnesota avenue. On three 95 from the Capitol Hill exits into Virginia towards Springfield, southbound traffic is slow through southwest from The Pentagon league road, but slowest, southbound from seminary road past duke street, the crash response blocking the right lane. 95 southbound slow out of Springfield and slowest beyond newington toward lorton and woodbridge. If you slow down farther south, there are near dumfries and garrisonville as well. 66 westbound getting wetter and getting a little slower now as rain develops near the fairfax and centerville exits, but we've avoided spin outs on 66, thankfully. Bill Wayne Maryland and Virginia, no complications, slow in a few places here and there, but not bad, especially given that it's a telework Monday and in Maryland on two 70 northbound, some slow traffic moving north of gay ursberg and through clarksburg. Route 50 in good shape between the beltway and the bay bridge. It's fun. It's noisy, and it's got folks drawing battle lines, pickleball, just how loud is the game? W USA verifies. Tuesday on W USA 9 news at 11. Dave delvine WTO traffic. Let's talk about all the wet weather that's heading our way. For your Monday night, we'll have raina times even some pockets of more moderate rain are possible, otherwise plenty of clouds, with lows in the low to mid 60s. For tomorrow warmer than today with a bit of a breeze

"Traffic and weather on the 8 day dill dines in the traffic center. It's getting slower, northbound through Maryland on two 70 from clarksburg past Hyatt's town. The incident beyond exit 26, now being reported as a car fire on the right side. Traffic should be getting by slowly to the left out of our van a northbound heading for Frederick on two 70, not one, but two crashes on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Northbound and southbound traffic, heavy and slow between the beltway and Laurel. Northbound before powder mill road caller said that one was blocking the right lane, southbound before one 97, another caller said, the southbound crash was blocking the left lane. 95, much better through Laurel go with that if you haven't committed. No delays reported on 50 between buoy and the bay bridge. Leaving the district on 50 New York avenue outbound eyes out for a couple of big rocks near the at Acosta river reported in the right lane. At the Potomac river, all systems normal just volume delays on three 95 in and out in southbound through Arlington past The Pentagon. On 66 westbound, it's slow and you're not really straight in one 23, but not bad through centerville, eastbound traffic heavy into Arlington, 28 southbound, very slow. Make that 28 northbound very slow from the dulles toll road past Sterling boulevard, but the crash just cleared all northbound lanes are open. The crash on fairfax county Parkway at the dulles toll road is also clear. It's the final week of regency furniture as presidents day mattress sales save up to $1600 on top brands plus up to 60 months financing and rapid delivery visit regency furniture dot com.
