"Continuing our coverage of what is unfolding on the streets of Milwaukee trying to track the protesters that are working their way through the streets of Milwaukee Alex Kroll we just talked to him a little while ago M. says that a portion of the protesters are on Wisconsin Avenue right near the on ramp to I. ninety four I'm looking at a live shot of a group of the protesters that appeared to be on I believe this is Kilborn and then they've taken a turn on to plan content the bottom line is this if you are in the downtown area today or you have to be in the downtown area today you're you're you're you're doing something headed around downtown it there's a very very high likelihood that it's going to be disrupted or you're going to have to re route yourself as this protest really is making its way through downtown started a little over two hours ago at veterans park and it has been a circuitous route as you can imagine to downtown don't know where it's going to wind up the F. as a C. started veterans park work their way into the third ward worked their way back north near the Milwaukee police headquarters on State Street now they continue to work their way through the downtown area like I say that the view I'm looking at is on plan contend it is yeah it is it's a large group it seems to be it just it seems to be certainly larger than what we saw last night with that rally that started on the south side which by the way think about how long that was for those who were inept from forty fifth and Cleveland all the way to MLK and locust that that route is I don't know I started to do some of the math six seven eight nine miles or so at any rate I will continue to track Alex grows with them we will talk in about a half hour just less than a half hour with the A. B. C. news Ryan burl he's in Minneapolis where the state of Minnesota the governor Minnesota governor walls for the first time ever I believe I read for the first time ever in Minnesota state history the full National Guard has been called and will be on hand to try try and quell what we have seen over what the last three four nights now in Minneapolis Twin Cities Saint Paul they've got another nine o'clock curfew I'm sorry another eight o'clock curfew in Minneapolis Milwaukee has a nine PM curfew mayor Tom Barrett made that announcement a little while ago he had a news conference and there at the intersection near the intersection of MLK of locust that where police station the district number five is located and it was disrupted several times by people shouting down the drowning out the mayor and not so much regarding the protester George Floyd and and the impetus for what we've been seeing but over Culver testing actually believe it or not in fact some of the more contentious moments of the news conference we may be able to bring some that audio back some of the more contentious moments of their beverage news conference earlier today was from a few people that were pushing and pressing him yelling at him regarding cold bid and the testing availability and things of that sort completely unrelated to the original reason you could say for these protests as we're looking in downtown Milwaukee and yeah they seem to be at the Milwaukee river right now but it's hard to tell what's the front end of a protest at the back end of the if it's just a a portion of the middle but and now they're crossing going right past the that's at the Pabst theater is the angle that I'm seeing here so nine o'clock curfew for the city of Milwaukee hundred and twenty five members of the Wisconsin National Guard the man called the statement by police MPD police chief Alfonso moralis and and this was a statement he put out late last night early this morning actually regarding what happened last night we did as follows on Friday may twenty ninth several individuals peacefully exercise their right to protest in the city of Milwaukee and we thank everyone who voice their frustration in a peaceful manner at approximately eleven thirty PM the peaceful protests turned violent and instead of protesting in the honor of Mr George Floyd and Mr Joel Acevedo Acevedo the man who lost his life when he was put in a chokehold at a house dealing with an off duty police officer officer Mattioli that was the impetus for the protest on the south side that devolved late at night anyway many individuals use this as an opportunity to damage property destroyed business commit robbery fire shots and steal property for their personal gain over a dozen now we know sixteen businesses in our community were damaged at that at that time approximately fifty individuals have been arrested in connection to these offenses and we're working with our community to identify additional suspects while protecting the community an officer was shot in the line of duty thank god the officer's injury was not life threatening I just want to stop for a second I hope we realize because it it's not life threatening and he will be okay do do we realize how different hi Dave this would be right now how different we would be approaching things I think it's safe to say if god forbid that officer last night lost his life at the time of this news release they have not yet found the person who fired the gun in the direction of officer I mean just think about the conversation we would be having right now the officer dies and to recognize how close we were to having what we're seeing in Milwaukee go up a whole other level or two as protesters now have reached the base of Milwaukee's city hall think how different it would be today that that was one of the first things that that kind of struck me when I woke up this morning only to read oh my gosh if it didn't diffuse peacefully as we saw earlier in the day with the protest near the courthouse near the police headquarters near the black was at the black Historical Society I believe is where it started and then it's finished and it just they started their they finish their and that was it and we were hoping for that last night and that was not the case but seeing what happened last night is why hi what the mayor and with the governor and the police chief and all law enforcement are doing here right now in preparation for tonight that's why what they're doing is so important not messing around okay I think you can clearly see what is happening in other cities and recognize maybe maybe there was some slow reaction and slow response haps I'm not I'm not criticizing one way or the other right now I'm just saying you learn if you're running Milwaukee you'll learn from what you're seeing elsewhere you saw what happened on your streets last night did you think okay how do we diffuse the situation how do we what do we do to make sure what happened last night in Milwaukee does not happen this night Saturday into Sunday here in Milwaukee it's three sixteen I'm Scott worse you've got W. T. M. J. one of the places that brought some truly remarkable footage last night if you watch any of it is Atlanta and you may have seen the response left late last night by the mayor of Atlanta an African American woman who is the leader of that city her response to what happened in her city was remarkable it's stirring it's emotional it's hard felt and it is there is a message Walt pertaining solely in primarily to her city of Atlanta there's a message in mayor Keisha lance bottoms voice there's a message that she related to her city that is fair to say can be applied to the entire country right now I'm gonna bring you her comments as we continue I'm Scott warrants your calls will be welcome your taxes well we should point out that Mayfair mall has closed early out of an abundance of caution that came in a little before two o'clock so that area you know where the Mayfair mall area is in Wauwatosa Milwaukee straddling the border right there that has been closed out of precaution but I'll bring you the comments of the Atlanta mayor when we come back if you haven't heard them they are riveting they're passionate it's remarkable leadership and if you have heard them then you know they're worth listening to a second time back.
