"Good morning I'm Bruce Allen And I'm Joan Jones Acacia James art producer and just ahead What we're learning about a new fast spreading COVID sub variant that's been given the nickname the stell foam across There's free money to help cover COVID funeral costs but few are applying I'm Christie king This may be a first one California city has voted to require gun owners to carry liability insurance 6 31 Scientists are closely monitoring a new type of the COVID-19 omicron variant Sometimes referred to as the stealth omicron we get more on this new variant from a W N CN TV reporter Maggie newland RTI epidemiologist doctor pia MacDonald says evidence from Denmark shows it may spread even more easily than what we're seeing now In very quickly overtook on its way to being the dominant variant for example Denmark And while scientists need more time to study the sub variant doctor Wolfe says so far it doesn't appear to cause more severe illness There's no early signal to say that this is dramatically different than standard armor So far this so called stealth Ooma cron appears to be much more common in Asia and Europe although there have been confirmed cases here in the U.S. A change in strategy for the Virginia Department of Health moving away from trying to investigate every COVID case and trace all contacts and instead focusing on following up on outbreaks and cases in high risk settings State health officials say the now dominant oma crown variant is spreading so quickly it's not possible or fruitful to try to track every case and thanks to vaccines most people who get it are only mildly sick The department says the sheer number of cases is straining Virginia's healthcare system The COVID-19 funeral assistance fund gives away to families money to cover the cost of funerals related to the coronavirus Up to $9000 is available But we've learned that fewer than half of those eligible have applied People need to get on.
