President Trump presides over a reshaping of Middle East power dynamic
"The White House was trying to resolve the Israeli Palestinian conflict with the quote deal of the century, but the Palestinians were not among those signing the so called Abraham Accords today. It was the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates in Bahrain, agreeing to open diplomatic and economic ties with Israel. President Trump's staged an elaborate ceremony to mark the occasion were here this afternoon to change the course of history. After decades of division and conflict, we marked the dawn of a new Middle East. Neither Bahrain nor the United Arab Emirates were at war with Israel. You've proposed a realistic vision for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, Palestinian see the deal's as a betrayal by their Arab allies and an effort by the Trump administration to undermine the Arab peace initiative. That plan calls for normalization with Israel after the Israeli Palestinian conflict is resolved. The Trump Administration took a different approach, says Aaron David Miller of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. They reserved all the honey for Israel in the key Arab states and all the vinegar for the Palestinians. The idea is that as Arab states normalize ties with Israel and get big arms deals with the U. S. They will put pressure on the Palestinians to make peace with Israel on terms more favourable to Netanyahu. Miller says It's known as the outside in approach, and he recalls numerous conversations about this with Trump's son in law and advisor Jared Kushner. It was just easier for them. It was more attractive for them. It was much more in keeping with the pro Israeli sensibilities both for political reasons, and in the case of Mr Questioner and others emotionally To align themselves with the eyes outside in approach. It's starting to pay off. But the Trump administration is still short of its ultimate prize, Miller says. Getting Saudi Arabia on board. My only concern is that they have hyped and Who plotted to the point where That may not yet be wanted. But if other Arab states join the party, particularly the Saudis, then I think you've got something that will be much more enduring. The Arab foreign minister say they're not turning their backs on Palestinians and Moradi Abdullah bin Zayed, speaking through an interpreter reminded Netanyahu that he agreed to suspend plans to annex parts of the Israeli occupied West Bank. You can look after dark cell. Um thank you for choosing peace and for halting the annexation off Palestinian territories at position that reinforces our shared will To achieve a better future for generations to come. In this time of a pandemic. The men didn't wear masks as they signed their deals with Israel. They did, however, avoid a public handshake. The Last US Civil War Pension
"Triplet was born in Nineteen thirty in Wilkes County North Carolina Sixty five years after the end of the civil war. How she ended up receiving civil war pension is one of those stories that you wouldn't believe if it wasn't true. But when you do the math, it actually does workout. Her father was most triplet was a veteran of the civil war. He had the distinction of having fought for both the confederacy and the Union. He was a member of the fifty third North Carolina infantry who fought in the battle of Gettysburg. On the way to Gettysburg most fell ill and was hospitalized the illness probably saved his life because most of his unit was either killed or wounded during the battle. After he recovered, he deserted the confederates and joined up with the third north, Carolina mounted infantry which fought for the union. The unit was known as Kirks raiders after commander Colonel, George Washington. Kirk. After the war Mos- returned to North Carolina got married and started a family his wife Mary passed away in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety. As with many older civil war veterans, they would often take younger second wives especially during the Great Depression as their pension was considered a source of stable income. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, four at the age of seventy eight MOS married his second wife Alita who was twenty nine years old Mohsen Alita had five children. One of them Irene was born in one, thousand, nine, thirty when Mos- was eighty-three. Irene was just eight years old when her father died at the age of ninety two after returning home from a civil war veterans reunion. Irene had a cognitive disability which made her eligible to continue to receive her father civil war pension after his death as a quote, helpless child of a veteran. She received her father's pension of seventy three dollars and thirteen cents every month from her father's death in one thousand, nine, thirty, eight to her death in. Twenty twenty. The amount was never for inflation. The entire time it's estimated she received approximately seventeen thousand dollars over the course of her life. In addition to having received the last civil war pension, she was also the last child of a civil war veteran. The second to last child of a civil war veteran also had an interesting story in two thousand. Eighteen Fred Upton passed away at the age of ninety seven. His father was William H Upton. Who is a civil war veteran and the former governor of the state of Wisconsin who was elected in eighteen ninety four. Because of the occurrence of young women marrying much older men with pensions, the passing of the last civil war widow wasn't that long ago either in two thousand and eight motty Hopkins died at the age of ninety three in thousand, nineteen, thirty, four at the age of nineteen she married eighty six year old William Cantrell who served as a sixteen year old soldier in the confederate army. Blast Union widow was Gertrude Janeway who passed away in two thousand three. The last surviving documented veteran of the civil war was Albert Wilson who died at the age of one, hundred, six in one thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, six he was a fourteen year old drummer boy in the first Minnesota. Heavy. Artillery Regiment. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, six there was an episode of the TV Game Show I've got a secret with a ninety five year old man named Samuel Seymour. The panelists had to guess what the guest secret was. Samuel Seymour. Was the last surviving witness to Abraham Lincoln's assassination. He was a five year old boy was taken affords theater and said in the balcony across the theater from the present it. there. Is a clip of the appearance on Youtube and I highly recommend viewing it if you're interested in such things. The. Last surviving person who was born as a slave in the United States was Peter Mills who died in Nineteen seventy-two he was born into slavery in eighteen sixty one and live to be one hundred, ten, one person was both born into bondage and live to see the moon landing. The last surviving veteran of the Revolutionary War was John Gray who died in eighteen sixty, eight at the age of one, hundred four he's one of the only people who live to see both the revolution and the civil war oddly enough he was born on George Washington's estate Mount Vernon and his father died in the revolutionary. War. The, last surviving veteran of Napoleon's army was a Polish man Vincent Markowitz who died at one hundred and eight in nineteen three and the last veteran of the war of eighteen twelve was Hiram Cronk who passed away in one thousand, nine, five at the age of one, hundred and five. In Two thousand eleven at the age of one hundred and ten American Frank. Buck was the last surviving veteran of World War One in the world to pass away. Demographers estimate that the last veteran of World War Two will pass away sometime around the year twenty, forty four. It will probably be someone who fought at a very young age and lives to be at least one, hundred and ten. It's amazing how the lives of some people can span such incredible lengths of time and how we can have lives that overlap them. We think of the civil war is being a long time ago. Yet we're only two or three generations removed from people who lived through all of these events.

"Welcome to a new episode of chronicles of the Griff tres this. We cover the Abrahams Griffin campaign as we head into the weekend, y'all seriously. I I want to bring you up to speed on everything with the election. We've got so much stuff to cover today, including the met Whitaker situation continuing to spiral in DC turns out company he is on the board of has been under FBI investigation and his role as part of that investigation. We now know the no one bothered to tell the president that this was happening not the president's fault. He did not know, but we'll get of course, the media wants to make it the president's what we'll get into all of that. But let me bring you up to speed on what's happening right now, the Abrahams campaign still believes that there are outstanding votes, and that they can they've gone. Remember, they went from. There was going to be a run off to they want to recount to back to there's going to be a runoff. I really do think what happened is on. When was it Wednesday evening? They had that press conference where they said that if they were to get twenty three thousand eight hundred of the outstanding ballots, they would be able to get a recount, and I blew that story up here in on the resurgent, and it got picked up by national media and sure enough and they had said recount not run off. And I think that force them to have to scramble to go back to. No, no, no way way way way. We're we're in a runoff now. According to the Kim campaign, I've not confirmed this with WSB TV. But the campaign is saying they tried to the the Abrahams campaign did say they were going to run run off ads. There were going to start up the runoff ads and that Debbie's BTV turned them down and other news outlets. Apparently did as well because there is no run off. And they're upset about it. But there is no run off. You've got to at least get kicked below fifty percent of the vote for there to be a runoff, and he's not below fifty percent. So you can't have a runoff. In fact, you know, what else? She can't do. You can't spend money designated for a run off. If there is no runoff. And yet that appears to be one of the things they're suggesting other suggesting they're doing it. I don't know that they actually they'd be crazy if they did because it would be illegal. You can't spend money designated for a run off when there is no runoff, and if people have maxed out to you know, you people can only give you certain amount of money for a primary for Jinro for runoffs. Let's let's just say to keep the math easy. Let's say it's five thousand dollars. And I think it actually is five thousand dollars. So you can give somebody five thousand for runoff you or five thousand for primary five thousand for general and five thousand for runoff. So you can get a total of fifteen thousand dollars will if you spend eleven thousand dollars from you get one person gives you that money that your budget..
