Originally i was fifteen and so you went to edinboro pennsylvania and was that an rotc opportunity there at that time it was at other universities in the area so what i did was achieve a direct commission. At that time they were commissioning people directly into the army. They are now into certain specialties. Like cyber but at that time. I was commissioned into the women's army corps yes it still existed and was there for about another year after i came in. And so you graduated. I believe was in nineteen. Seventy seven yes. He went on active duty. And so where did you go from there well. My degree was in english. I wanted to get into journalism in the army public relations public affairs. I didn't know that that was not a entry level specialty. So I was given instead was the army signal corps and put into communications electronics. I've gotta policy played so You're you're in your thirties really when you finally just change way you bowl. Let's say i was. I was thirty. Six i remember. I was two hundred fifteen pounds. I had gained a lot of weight back. That was the heaviest. I had ever weighed I was very unhappily married. This is two thousand and two thousand eleven. And i was severely depressed like i just. It was hard to wake up every day We were financially bankrupt. I think we were in the whole about seventy five thousand dollars just on credit card bills alone and i just didn't wanna live. I remember sitting on my kitchen floor with a bottle of pills. And i am so grateful i had a dog i had a little pug and he was sitting beside me that day and i just wanted to end it all because i'm like i'm constantly hurting people. I mean you know when you black out. You don't remember what you do and then the next morning you're just thinking oh my god who do i have to apologize to today. And what have i done. And i was getting really tired of living that life and so i remember looking down at my dog and they kind of do that little head tilt he looked up at me and it was almost like he's like what are you doing. Was we kind of doubled down on our transportation double down on transportation offer transportation to across the city but also across our school k through twelve tremendously expensive to do and then we really really focused on staff and student retention. And we've come such a long. I think we were at about seventy five percent which is pretty good for urban school in terms of kids staying from year to year. now we're consistently in the nineties were consistently in the nineties from from day. One to the end of the school year in terms of retention. You can do that. You start to build a typo community that you want that Just like we add it and they would intervention program back in madison where you start to feel like a family. You start to be able to hold high expectations for for one another. And we've been able to create here because of our success with our retention and the commitment to retention or our staff and our students and you mentioned You wouldn't have this job if you know philly's we shouldn't have this job if you're in the normal system something along those lines and had to do with degrees and and then with teaching certificates and all the other stuff and My kids happen to go to a school that was a private school but it didn't. It's not an accredited school so the teachers don't aren't required to have teaching certificates either. The it feels it feels to me. And i and my daughter is actually going to be an elementary school teacher And getting a teaching certificate but it feels to me like from your perspective and maybe certainly mind from my own experience. The whole that whole system requiring a certificate which is really an academic i guess achievement.

I think i mean the skills are transferable you guys pretty defined process that you can take elsewhere and it won't question i have and i'm asking this to more and more of our guests that come on we keep hearing about yes and i think that it's a it's a hot buzz term right now and i don't think anyone either has solutions or even consulting that caters kind of around the whole emerging. Es g practice. Is this something you guys have talked about to this point. Now you might help. Companies sort of go down this path of carbon capture. es g. and the quote unquote energy transition. We have not so. We've if something that we definitely need to keep an eye on and it's definitely something that we want to learn more about And it's you know as our clients grappling with with it. Occasionally we do have some benign tumors so tumors that don't cause cancer that won't cause death and sometimes you can tell what those are based on imaging but sometimes you can't Most of the time. We don't do biopsies on kidney cancer because we know what we're going to do anyway if we thought it was. A benign tumor. Were still going to be suspicious for it. Because tumors can fool us based on imaging gonna keep following those tumors long term. Now there are some cases where it might be necessary to do a biopsy of the kidney. these are actually fairly rare cases There they might be a case where you're a patient who has a cancer and another organ say breast cancer or colon cancer. You know some other other organ and you've got a mass in the kidney and you're wondering could that be metastasis or a spread of that cancer. Will that might change the way that you manage that cancer so you might want to get some tissue from the cancer to begin with if you had to do that scott. How do you get to the kidney to get a biopsy. Yeah it's wonderful question that we use a cat scanner to target. It's very very specific and amazing. It's an interventional radiologist who will do that biopsy and with very very high precision they can put a needle into the kidney and in real time. See the biopsy the biopsy gun which takes a small sliver of tissue. Go into the tumor and make sure that your biopsy in the right place but usually it's done through the skin. How do you treat kidney cancer. Wants you know what they are and that yeah so Really about seventy five to eighty percent of kidney cancers present when they're localized and what i mean by that is cancer. Almost two o'clock eastern. We have about seventy five. Original cosponsors on the bill is about to be reintroduced in the house as it is every session which is really great but of course we need to get as many as possible to show our strength on medicare for all which last session was over a majority of democrats who co-sponsored. I think it was one hundred six original and then ultimately hundred eighteen by the end of the session and we're gonna actually have an action at the end of the cast today. We're going to put up the capital switchboard on the screen. Until you can all call your legislators and ask them either thank them if they are original cosponsor or asked them to become one if they are not but today in light of the upcoming bill we have presentation on where we are with this bill and who are the next hundred or so democratic who we need to get on to actually ask medicare for all through the house and a deeper dive into what is going to take to get that majority that we need in congress so ben taking away. Let's not call it a presentation. let's sounds boring. Let's call it a discussion a dialogue so one of the things we do of that. We did especially as we are switching from the last legislative session to this current. One was to take a little bit. Look at the district and the co-sponsors we already have on board the bill. The medicare for all bills in the house and the senate. And how are they really different from the districts where we need to get cosponsors onboard the bills. We're specifically looking at districts represented by democrats or you know swing districts set may off and on be represented by a democrat who's votes we really need to push this past the finish line and you know this was kinda. We're looking mostly at demographic type data political data that sort of stuff but there is some revealing stuff in here that i think is really important for all organizers and activists of the medicare for the movement to ponder as they switch from the type of organizing. It takes time to to play out when evaluation has to be set at the time of the equity. Investment is forcing an unnatural. That's a great way. Bribing took a way of describing it.
