"I got I'm asked out, But then I took my mask down below my Chan or below my nose. And then I'm getting a drink of something, but then I don't pull my mask back up, and I think that might have been the biggest issue. Mike Florio. Profootballtalk. Who's he was the guy that was advocating that 40 Niners take a cheap shot on my homes and get the penalty just to get a message. Like what? Dude? Really? That's mean. I don't know. I saw him on radio wrote. It was all I could do that. Haven't exchange right but anyway ah But he was putting it out there. The Chiefs fans not wearing mask well, come on, man, but it is going to be a discipline. I think of people sipping a beverage of the game and then putting your mask back up instead of just Oh, shoot. I forgot about it or it's hard. I'm not gonna put it back up. But That would have been the biggest issue and that was just that wasn't a whole lot of folks. Well, even if you but you've got separation. I mean, not that big would think I think it would be for I'm trying to create a word picture here, and it's hard to do, Steve. But they were just basically groups of four. Yeah, you would be in a grate like you, Ted and near to producers or you're, too You know, family members would be setting a four. Then there's going to be a lot of distance. And then there's going to be somebody. There's a Zil four packs all over the stadium in all the sections. That was some of the upper deck, but you just spread out and so But then you stay in that section. Like if I'm in section 101, That's my pod, So I'm not leaving that pod. I'm getting my bathroom and my concessions in that pod, but I'm staying in that. Area, So it was. It was really fascinating to see it. I'm trying to give you the word picture. But honestly, if people can go to Facebook or or go to YouTube that Khun Google it or they can go to Twitter try to find out if they're on Twitter, and there's some really good visuals put out by 65 T P T team, both still still still photos. And videos put out to show to capture the day for everyone to see what this really look like. Actually, it was. It was cool. It went way better, and I thought it was and I was just fascinated by how it all worked. Just be my luck. I'd you know, in a stadium with 2000 fans, I'd still get tickets in the upper deck. Yeah, you and who is the guy who's the guy? Brewer's guy? Mob money Great, been socially distanced all your life even before the pandemic. On the field. Our things look at where 2.5 weeks out from the season. I know it's right here on this. It'll be the focus of my report on Tuesday. What tomorrow on Wednesday is that really starts to change. Now, this change into season prep and looking for the Houston Texans Saturday, there was some tunnel passing us having a really good camp. He's whether he's tipping passes air rushing the passer playing the run. He does a whole bunch of things to help this team on defense. The other is Willie Gay Junior. The rookie out of Mississippi State I featured in the first week of R reports is starting to come on. And now with an injury to Damien Wilson, who started last year. It's giving a chance for Willow Gay Junior on the defense on the offensive end. I cannot believe how good Travis Kelsey is in this camp. I mean, he It's just like it continues to rise, and he's going to be a focus of my report later in the week. I'll give you them just more of an impact or kills his impact on this whole team. And then McCall Hardman. I featured him in the first week. He's also living up to that billing. And then cause such assembly what we heard from him to to me. He's a huge and no pun intended key to this team because at left guard, he could be an absolute staple. For this offense and not just Patrick Mahomes. Mitch, I I went up to Abilene yesterday to the A Brookville hotel for a birthday meal. Ah, it was sweet. I'm just I'm just I'm leaving you now to just in that moment of thinking being at the Brookville Hotel. The other thing I've always wanted to do is go over to the Abilene High School football field and act like I was long snapping for Dwight Eisenhower go. He was not He was armies punter for awhile till he jacked up his knee, and then I went on to bigger and better things. But he went to West Point, but you have the original Abilene cowboy football player, not the original Abilene Cowboy. I think that's well built their cockpits. Yeah, that's a good place to go, man. And some fried chicken mashed potatoes and corn haven't English style, You know better. So my wives, grandfather Well, ironically, was from Roxbury, Kansas. That was his spot like you know, a Swede from Ah, Swedberg or whatever, but he's like, What do you want to do, man? What you want to do on your birthday? Brookville Hotel. "They Sean guys that are you know, that are hungry that want the ball on the search competing with each other and growing and learning from each other offensive line is played really well this preseason, and I think those guys getting on the same page, you know, is going to be really crucial to our success. You know, we just got to take care of the football. We end every serious with a kick. Our defense is gonna play really. Well, you know, we've got a great defense and great pass rushers. You know, I'm excited. If you've got a great chance to be really good case. Do you go back as you get ready for an NFL season? Do you go back and look at tape from last year, or is it more about looking for? What is your preparation like as you get ready for the season? Defense. You know, who you're playing, you know, we did a lot of looking back earlier in the offseason. But you know, as you look forward to phone that you try to you know, you try to watch as much as you can pick up some wherever you can, you know, they've they've got the stuff in the preseason that we've watched, but you know, you try to watch as much as you can from you know, what wherever you can find it. Honestly, you were awesome. Last year. You were close to a Super Bowl. You're not with that team any longer. Obviously, you're in Denver how much pressure. Do you feel to go out there and not just be successful for your team? But to prove to other people that the case keenum we saw in two thousand seventeen is the case came the quarterback going forward. Yeah. I mean, I don't I don't necessarily go out every day. Just to prove something like that. You know for me. You know, I go out I go out and be myself, and, you know, being myself, you know, that's that's just trying to improve each day. That's trying to trying to be better each day. So I'm I'm not trying to prove the same guys last year. I'm trying to prove that better than I was last year. You know, and and you know, I think we're all trying to do that. I think we're all trying to make ourselves better people mega selves better. You know, whatever whatever it is. You do for me. It's been a football player, and I'll only be better. And you know, that's that's a new challenge that I wake up every day and going to the going to the office and and get to try to accomplish. And you know, I I love what I do. Like like, you said earlier man, living, the dream case keenum here on the show living the dream and making some time for us on CBS sports radio case, what's the process for trying to get to know your receivers and just get your timing and your chemistry down on and off the field when you're. A quarterback that obviously is nudity organization, and you haven't been around those guys. It's definitely a process, and it's still going on. It's gonna go on all season and Senegal and as long as I'm a Bronco. But yeah, you just you know, you try to communicate as much as you can, you know in between plays in between routes watching film. So that when you're actually running route and throwing the ball, and there's there's. You know, just kinda it happens. There's there's definitely non verbal communication that happens when receivers running around, but the more you talked about it the more you've seen them run rouse, the more you've worked on different plays. Just kind of the more. It becomes second nature. And you know, I think that's that's important for for any skill position. That's going to get the ball. But just receivers especially case keenum, which what NFL or college coach has had the biggest impact the biggest influence on your game. And on your success. At the tough question. "About, the. Company and your story that led to you creating it yeah definitely for having me Kevin student success agency is the company that got recognized, for Forbes thirty under thirty top entrepreneurs under the age of thirty Selected a list. For the education category and so for myself is agent twos was, started based off of, my own personal. Journey I think a lot of young entrepreneurs their. First business based off of something they went and for me I was a first generation college. Students and a lot of times I was applying to colleges I applied over thirty scholarships and around five or seven colleges, and a lot of that time that was doing it. Outside of school after hours but, the, unique thing that my school offers all of these services they offer a? Counselor the offer tutors they offer like all this like a writing center but the challenge was all of that was only available during the, day when school was available and so well with that is that it may be realized that schools all across the country are wanting to support kids but the. Only, can. Support them during the waking day and it was really felt like man why can't students receive support from their school at any given time From the palm. Of their hand and that's what we created student success agency within which. Is an all night. Mentoring platform that allow students to receive the one guidance at any time from Texas phone if he just text into the, student success agency number and so we're currently working with. Fifty two high schools across the, country, with kids can have access to support and guidance at any time You said that before obviously very well gone a great. Overview of we ended the interview now the listener would. Walk away with lots of information so very very interesting so talk a little bit about how the program works in a little more detail Yeah so what we do is we support overbooked counselors so they're not every so that overlooked. Issue become salt there's one counselor every five hundred students the average dude only gets thirty year students at our. Schools that use our program is able to get anywhere between thirty minutes a month and that you know five connects. Return on advising time and basically what we do is we did add a layer for, that counts of soldiers. That we call agents these are college mentors. Who we call agents that support kids as almost like. An agent, does first. Celebrity or athlete and so we create these student success agency that the high school We come to. The school we do a big presentation I recently visited forty schools We get excited about having agency and then kids get training and learn right on. The spot how to text how to call and how to interact. With our program and so kids just having number that they save into their. Phone that's the students except. Agency number and they can. Reach out at any time So funny you're you're you're team sent me some links and one of them is from the Abilene reporter news I'm a graduate from Abilene high school Abilene Christian university glamour, graduated from Abilene Christian university and went. To Abilene high school and I look at, how small world. I mean that's the town of about a hundred. Thousand people. Very, familiar were Haskell school is and, people people would fly to Abilene to get to the big city to get away from school for a while the big city of. A hundred thousand you have to live at to appreciate it but. But yeah so that's one of your plants Haskell high school I see yeah No so we we have schools all. Across but, yeah Texas is yeah we Soto Abilene San Antonio we we service we service and rule the middle of nowhere youtall to the big city of Los Angeles and so we have kids in Hawaii we, have kids in Maine all across rural. Areas urban areas and so our goal is, just like the. Internet is there's a connection you should be able. To receive. Support Yeah I love. That so talk a little bit about the the, economics of what you do. Tell me how it works financially for you guys yeah, absolutely so what we do is we work with schools that are looking to enhance their. Student support services and so basically under the sun that deck includes counselors that basically includes any staff that doesn't have a classroom time and they're trying to find a way. To help their kids and so our whole thing is that you know. There's. One counselor, Republican students usually what happens, is schools, maybe can't, afford, another counselor multiple more counselors, so, they can, bring on our our platform to support their current staff and so really what it just. Allows we work with with counselors and. We also work with federal grant that may be, focused on. Helping getting more kids in the college so we may identify grant that is supporting a an at risk area And we. Can, then support as. Service rendered through that grant to help increase kids to go to college. So a lot of our students are low income. Students, come. From schools that have a low college enrollment rate and so we are able to come in as. An extra support for those schools, to maybe either have won a grant to support that need or maybe like need, to hire some or something to support their counselors yeah I. Love that I think that's interesting and so in, your case they hire you. Instead of trying to hire another counselor and your counselors, are really only being used only being paid for one they're being used which means you. Can literally multiplied in about a time that each should their students get whereas at the school you know it's it's literally one counselor at one time she is probably overextended. As as it is but there's so much management and so much paperwork And so many things that have nothing to do with actually council the kids. And so one of, your counselors, is worth multiples of a school counselor essentially. Right yeah yeah yeah yeah exactly so the, counselor there's there's there's that issue of you know You don't need. A higher another counselor hire another staff member because all that does is. Create another traffic jam within the hallway because the, kids have to be somewhere and so far can't care they're just having politics they have, do politics with teachers for class time try to. Create heard model assemblies to get everyone cast a Big Mac but when we're. Do.

"Beach airforce base, so it's right on the beach. And one of the things I remember growing up as that when we would go to the beach, we always wanted to go to the. Other beach because they were segregated that time. And then when I was in adult and went back, you could almost see the demarcation line but twain it to beaches and said, I wasn't segregated anymore, but you could tell Kanda where that line was at. It just looks a little bit different when you moved to Adelaide to attend high school where you all back in the states. Prior to that, now we were in Spain. My dad had gotten orders to go Spain. So one of the things about growing up in South Carolina going to school there is that we were all every student was taking Spanish classes because that was the air force mission for that particular base. So most people were rotating into Spain. So if you could imagine bunch of children with southern accents speaking Spanish, I can. Only imagine what like Spain. So we did a three year tour in Spain, and then we went to Abilene where my dad was stationed at diets and eventually retired from there, does about being exposed to the army reserve training at Abilene high school? Well, I didn't get into at Abilene high school. I, my dad was really old fashioned banned from the south, and so he would not let me go into the military. He wanted me to get a degree and as a CPA I can't keep my own checkbook. I can't imagine doing anyone else's. And even back then I knew math was my weak point or he wanted me to teach teacher and I had a little bit more spirit than that for him. So I went to college when I was seventeen. I couldn't find my army or TC contract and taught turn eighteen and for two. Two years. I didn't tell him that I'd signed army contract to go into the military. So I got my exposure by curiously, their him in the military as as dependent. But then I went into army reserves with the intention of going active duty, but it didn't work out that way. So that was the IRO TC that was RTC. That's kind of where I found myself is an RTC. I was extremely shy growing up, and that gave me an outlet to overcome being. And when I say painfully shot was painfully shy. Speaking of check one of your first jobs, somebody's accountant a bookkeeper in temple. I worked for. Car dealership is no longer here, but it's not my fault. They survive long after I left, but I was the bookkeeper and my job was to do payroll and they had this huge machine that if you made a mistake, it would say error and one Friday I was doing the payroll and the machine just went beserk. They had to bring in the lady who had retired and and she was she was much much older Caucasian woman. And when we were talking, she told me and I'm from the south remember. So I've been taught to respect my elders. She told me that she was knitting Africans and I thought, and I'm still young and do my very best not to bust out laughing when I realized she was talking about she was knitting Afghans not Africans low, but I did mess up their books pretty bad. When did you began working for the temple police department after I messed up those books really bad. To them. I messed up the books really bad. They were having. They had a, they were recruiting at the time. And so I had always kinda had an idea that I might like to do policing and it was the only job where I didn't have to do so curtail duties or bookkeeping and so apply for them with my education, I had a four year degree and being an arm reserves that kinda helped me get into the police department. I really enjoyed it. And what were you patrol officer? I was a patrol officer looked like how I was twenty two twenty three might have been twenty four by then. And I look like I was about twelve to fifteen wore my hair and Heidi breaks across my head, and people would call the chief. They wouldn't let me come in. They had a complaint called a chief and tell. And they're so little girl dressed up in a place uniform saying, she's a police officer. Could you send a real place offered from a house. If you're just joining us, I'm Johnny o Hanson junior, and you're listening to n. black America from KT radio, speaking of Dr Christine, a Nick associate professor and coordinator, criminal Justice program at the university of Mary Hardin, Baylor, and the first African American woman Texas ranger picking the Texas wage. What led you to think about becoming a Texas ranger? Well, after worked forward at temple place department, I took a eight month active duty tour with my reserve unit, and they sent me to the defense language institute and Monterey California and became one of the German linguists for our unit because that was our our field of expertise at the time where we were assigned to go. And so I did that. And when I came back, I was looking for a job and DPS was hiring. So I applied with them and ended up being. Hired went to driver's license and Houston than back in the temple. Then to Waco, became the recruiter for five years. And then at that point, they had already had two women that had hired into the Rangers and do PS was being very progressive and their promotion of minorities and females. So I applied for ranger, and that's what led me to that. Did you suffer? Anybody parked van broken doing training. I had a black com- my nose was broken. Oh, yeah. Had a broken rib. You know, the normal stuff you go through when you're in a physical academy was a much different from what you went through when you now army reserve? Oh, yes. Way, way different. I never got punched in the face arm research, but then again, in a reserves, I expect to get into fight everyday with anyone. So it was different. Was the India attic pressures that that you put on yourself going through that process? Yes, the no. I my entire career has been spent as as as a sole female or the only African American or they only African American female in my group. So, but then you get you get a little bit accustomed to, but I don't think you ever get away from putting added pressure on herself of knowing. That you are a role model that you are setting the pace and you have to do your very best so that it makes it easier for those coming behind you to come through that door. I never would imagine that DPS or the Texas Rangers would have a language institute that foreign language would would be integral part of what one does they didn't this? I
