"The gathering that Sunday in the meeting house for a sermon by guest minister day that Lawson was quite the tense moments Lawson if you remember it was one of the former ministers of Salem village so everyone knew him and the Putnam's were there and so was Martha Corey Boston had barely managed to start his sermon before all hell broke loose the affected girls fell to the floor as he was preaching the body's Twistin and arriving as they cried out in pain Abigail Williams pointed up into the empty air above their heads and claim to see Martha Corey flying around the room and while Martha Corey spoke up and denied all of it her fate seemed to be sealed mark that was arrested the following day and Rebecca nurse was brought in three days later examination was much like you might expect authority and Corwin were among the presiding magistrate and they returned to their obsession with the devil's book Martha Corey was indignant what book she spat back at them where should I have seen a book I show these girls none nor have nine Norton brought nine the defending herself wasn't the best thing to help her case the judges saw her as too confident and forward and that she was stepping out of line immediately after the examination she was carted off to the Salem jail to wait for her official trial Rebecca nurse experienced a lot of the same treatment during her examination she professed her innocence of course but in the middle of it and Putnam seniors started shouting at her accusing her of doing the work.

"I can just see the complexity of people's faces on their in their comments and the way they looked and the way they acted in the way they walked and because it it rocked us community and remember it was on the heels of the flora fire that killed those those four little girls in flora in the same county in the same rural county in the middle of America. You know so a lot of tragedy ajete tragedy a lot of sadness. A lot of her pain and sorrow I knew we were going to have a heavy burden. I just knew we were going to have a heavy burden Part of that was because of what the expectations would be coordinating event investigation of this. That's this complex I lost finger on my my personally my mind but as I looked around and I saw what was happening everyone knew that we were up to the task. There's a difference between up for the task and ready for the task. "Sir. What does it mean to you to see this memorial when you come out here? There's intersections tough for me. Always be tough for me. I closed my eyes and I can see him. You know I can see it. Came from the left side over here and that joking and cutting up like two younger who do probably probably and then they turn left in the world's about to change turn right not left however it is and whoever it was has stared at this nature reserves. I just like we right now. I know that even the first first day right here stood right here. You're the top COP in the state of Indiana. This happened in broad daylight light. How unusual is that aspect? I don't ever remember anything like this in my entire a business thirty five years and I don't remember anything quite like this. This is is just different for so many reasons. Just so many things have caused us to be different. And it doesn't minimize any other loss of of a child or of the MOM or dad or for anger anybody but the totality of this is different. Doug Carter is certain absolute absolutely without a doubt we all know that murders go unsolved all the time. That's a familiar story. But here's why the murders of Abigail Williams and liberty German thirteen and fourteen years old are different. We can see who did it. We can hear who did it but we still don't know I know who did it. Delphi Indiana is a small place just north of Indianapolis with about three thousand people. They'll tell you this kind of thing doesn't happen here and they were right until it did. We're approaching the bridge. Now what do you see as you look at it him. I can seem standing right out. There can seem standing right out there. Feel the same way every time I come here. Gosh Dang it look back this way. You'll see them walking here. You can see you can see just doing the girls do. Yeah Golan listen so quiet so peaceful then what occurred right down there just beyond evil beyond what you can unplug the human mind understand. There's a reason this all happen. It is not just. I just don't know what it is slow as you stand here today. Are you convinced. Instant this cases solvable. Yes took one hundred percent. One hundred percent Nearly three years and close to fifty thousand tips later the murders of Abbey and Livy. That's what their friends and family call them are still unsolved. Investigators say the man who did this maybe living among them in Delphi sitting next to them in church in line at the grocery store what what happened on the bridge in those woods that day as he'd done it before will he do it. Again is a lot of evidence a lot of tips. Why isn't this solved? Police swear their one tip away from doing just that. Who has it and will they ever come forward over? The course of the next eight chapters were going into explore those questions with the people living. Let's get started. Police are also examining this snapchat. APD Chat photo. It was taken just before both girls disappeared the announcement that the girls have been found not to a good end. We are investigating a in crime scene. We suspect foul play. "Hip through family ties military service and economic needs. Every person inside Salem village was acutely aware of what was happening to the folks in Maine, even more. So when those refugees began to flood back toward them, o n one last thing I wanna point out on January twenty. Fifth of sixteen ninety two just days before Betty. Paris and Abigail Williams were about to fall into fits for the first time, a native American Ray destroyed. Another settlement in Maine, not Falmouth far to the north. Oh, no. This raid happened much closer in the southern town of York. From the perspective of the people in Salem, the conflict and danger was headed right toward them. So keep all of that in mind as we move forward because the next events might very well take place in Salem, but that doesn't mean they're isolated. And some historians think that everything that was about to happen could be blamed on Abigail Hobbs who thanks to the wild stories. She was telling her friends ended up being arrested on April nineteenth. Her examination happened a short time later and came with some interesting revelations. Standing before the magistrates Abigail Hobbs spoke before they could ask her any questions. I will speak the truth. She said I have seen sites and have been scared. I have been very wicked. I hope I shall be better if God will help me. What sites did you see Auburn asked? I have seen dogs and many creatures. What dogs do you mean Auburn, asked ordinary dogs, Abigail shook her head. I mean, the devil. The magistrates pressed on where had she seen them. They asked navigate replied that her encounter had taken place in the woods in the middle of the day years ago back when she lived at Casco bay. That was where she put her hand on his book. When they carried her off to jail, short while later the name Casco bay still hung in the air, like a neon sign, pointing at the danger that lurked the north. But Abigail had also made it clear that it was spreading south and might already be among them. She claimed that shape shifting man had visited her at her home here in topsil. He had alternated between the form of a cat dog and a black man with the black hat. And this man, she claimed had offered her fine clothes and power to harm others, intone accuser that she had readily accepted..

"I still, in my opinion and based on books I've I've read, I think I'm very good writer. You know, I think very good, very good director. You all these things even. If they're just my opinion of myself and my my work, those are going to remain whether I'm well-known or not, and for an athlete, those who due to injury loses all, not only did they have to deal with that faming reduce, but, oh my God, their whole vocation, their entire vocation that they have worked towards because. You don't become famous suddenly as an athlete at a new where the highschool, your Langley work at this, and it wasn't to become famous assert was you worked on this vocation for a long time because you wanted to play 'cause you were and you became excellent. I can't play unless I get better to play with the guys that are good aplenty lading. You have to process that fame leaving that money leaving and you no longer can do this vocation. I, that's. That's stunning. But who are you is gone because Beaumont near the football where I don't know who I am because on the average career of an NFL football players, two years as it average Renault. No injuries. Well, you know, I, you know, there's one interesting element to the. The fame when I was going to do the academic version that I started first of the book, and I did this seventeen on. I could say you're half of it. I spoke to a couple of professional athletes, and one of the interesting things that they said about the fame when it was high, it said it really was tied to that immediate audience that was at that game see for a television performer or a musician. I mean, for musician, maybe they have a touch of that too because they have these live performances. Someone can say, hey, I was there when you weren't Madison Square Garden or whatever. But for an actor. That's on a television show or a or in a film. I mean, a play you more so get that shared experience, but you you are very removed from the experience. So people are experiencing something without you and you had no idea, like you said, people coming up to you and going, hey man, you know, you're an asshole in that role. You know. Now I can remember doing a play. I did. We're had that kind of reaction, but I was there. So I where I did the crucible and I played Abigail Williams. So you were there? She's like the recently. So when I came out, I Kurt and call it was big applause, big applause for all the actors before me. And then the bottom dropped out of the applause when I came out and then the applause rose up again for the actors after me, and my mother happened to be there the first time that happened, I was my understand without and she said, oh, you did a good job at that character because they didn't want to applaud the character in the crucible who's sort of. No makes a lot of villainous you know? Yeah, don't say when you told him on posed reality, it's a daughter. The father says to the daughter, you're ugly or your, you know, and the daughter is to go along with it or does even the cognitive thought. I'm gonna go along with this because I need him. You just believe it could you're a kid that's that is cognitive fought, that guy is the leader, right? So when you're an actor, the imposed reality is just almost constantly you're the best you just past, hey, baby, you're the best, you're the best you the best best. And then when the people that are not their critics whose job by the way is to criticize you so shame on all of us for not going fucked our guys critic like jobs to critique. Like that's your job. I'm a professional asshole. I don't like your biography. When you wrote about you, I don't like your knife in writing. I don't like it. It's dread. So when the other impose you're the best you the best and the other impose reality is this person socks. This is an embarrassment then you're in this flux and this limited space..
