"Meet someone who's really session. It's black and Abdullah. Real inspiration. Follow us on the ground, black and half dollars and at ESPN underscore Chicago. Okay? Thank you to Shawn Davis for producing tonight's show Black and Abdullah, You can download the blocking of dollar podcast on the ESPN Chicago APP. You know about 40 minutes ago here on the show, I gave you my predictions for every NFL team the record who's going to make the playoffs? How early is it too early to want to change your opinion after the season started? I mean, my idea on the Cowboys going 10 and seven and winning the NFC East has to do with Dak Prescott being healthy and if you are doing a duel Monitors situation and watching the game. You're also listening to black and Abdali Gas on twitch on ESPN 1000 Chicago like I'm trying to talk about football here. I'm glancing up. I'm seeing things I've seen things online. And Dak Prescott does not look healthy. So if Dax not healthy Like, Can I? Should I amend my my cowboys, 10 and seven or is or should I just chill out and just let it go? We're still in the first quarter. 30 minutes ago in the first quarter, the Buccaneers are up seven. Nothing on the Cowboys Cowboys have the ball. They're driving in the Buccaneers. Uh, end of the field. So just relax. Just relax. I think I'll relax. But still the C dock out there. Not quite with the arm strength. This early on. It may be concerning for most cowboy fans, but will definitely give First take the A block tomorrow. Is that's what they'll talk about for 45 minutes is the attack and the Cowboys and and what they should do and whether or not there the grist team in the history of the world because that's how that show goes, Uh, Chris Block here with you here on ESPN 1000 and the ESPN Chicago app yet? No, I didn't win your life. No like they used to before at Sharon's out of here. Now, there's no reason to keep coming back. The game has started. Football has begun. There's a touchdown. Brady. The good one Touchdown Buccaneer. Seven. Nothing in the first quarter. There's no more Ed Sheeran in his merch smile is bad merch. Darling. It's a shearing NFL season. 2021.

"Now it's time for the last word but the great lawrence donald arts. Rachel and i decided today why i would be a terrible supreme court justice and that is i would struggle with the muted language that they use like for example the word unprecedented which the dissenters us repeatedly and they're in their reaction to this Texas abortion law. I called it insane last night. That reduced to one word. That was my judicial opinion about the texas abortion law So you sort of or. She was pretty great because she yeah. She departed from the unprecedented gentility language. And so thank the. I'm really thankful for that. Because she kind of those of us who are frustrated by the limits on language in the way. Those guys react her first. Her first line is the court's order is stunning young. The whole descent is amazing. Only three and a half pages. Everybody should read it. But you notice when you get to the very end of it. She says the court should not be so content to ignore its constitutional obligations to protect not only the rights of women but also the sanctity of its precedents and the rule of law period. I dissent period. now justice kagan's descent will also. We'll also give you blisters. But at the end of kagins to set she says. I respectfully cent soda my ours. Even turn that out. She's like you know what. Actually i just descent. You clowns the i would be the i would forget to use that word respectfully a lot i just i would just oops oops. I forgot to say respectfully. I'm very sorry. Yeah it's an incredible ruling. We're we're going to get into it. laurence tribe is here harvard's constitutional professor. Also professor. carol sanger is here We're going to get into it It is it's one of those stories that continues to you. You get a night's sleep on the story and it it is either just as bad or worse the next day. There's just more to say more to get into about it. It is really a horrible horrible situation and impractical and practical terms and we were just discussing this of abdali earlier in the hour lawrence. And i just said to her bluntly is there any reason that we shouldn't expect all the other red states to just immediately enact copycat laws to have new new abortion bans in new states instantly because of this and she said there's no reason not to expect that and so now with each passing day. Whether it's south dakota or florida wherever else. It's going to be the place. They're already working on it. We're going to see red states all over the country ban abortion using this as the xerox template. And it's gonna to go fast. Yeah just start with every republican governor. Who's running for president. They are demanding of their legislatures. Right now send me one of those to sign immediately. Yeah exactly even as the country doesn't want abortion laws. Made more strict let alone. One wants one abortion banned. I mean there's a reason that folks in the conservative media aren't talking about this ruling right now. Is there the dog that caught the car. They like talking about trying to achieve this now that they have they realized that actually the countries against this and the backlash is going to be is going to be considerable. We will see thank you. Rachel thanks lawrence. But we'll just assume you said the new texas law creates what she calls. Citizen bounty hunters. Here's the way the new texas abortion law works. If you're a girl who grows up in texas and then in college meets the person who you think is the love of your life and you have a loving relationship. In every way that's important to you in six months or a year into that intimacy. You share the worst thing. That's ever happened to you. And you tell your partner that a few years ago your father raped you and you became pregnant and you went to planned parenthood and they helped you end the pregnancy and your partner is very supporting and loving and through. Tears says everything right in that moment but for reasons having nothing to do with that moment just the normal twists and turns of young romance or romance at any age you eventually feel yourself drifting apart from that person and at some point you break up and your partner does not take it well your partner becomes enraged.

Why do you still have hold on? I don't know. Why do you still have Mel Kiper on the crisis of college quarterback? You got rich for three years old across and then you got milk crisis There is why? I don't even have that on your screen crisis averted. Just it feels is here. Crisis averted. I think he was talking about no quarterbacks available anywhere that like this very few quarters through anymore. No, I mean that that was. The point is that teams are desperate to find quarterbacks. That was the point of the cut from three years ago. Alright, blanket. Abdali if you want to join the conversation, 3123323776 short show, But what we need to do today To start, though, is give a shout out to everyone that came out to the grip it insipid classic yesterday all of our fine partners. All are great listeners all the long streamers that we got to talk to in person and hang out with it was a fantastic time at seven Bridges Golf Club. I had a blast. I was paired up with our our fantastic partners from Blue Chew, and it was a wonderful time. Riley, Steve Ross Mark, we had a good group. Shot minus seven and we were feeling good about it because we want our run of birdies on those tough water holes in the back nine. And so we're like, all right, Front nine should ease up a little bit. But we we only got two on the front. So we came up at seven and the winning group yesterday was at minus 17. That's crazy, which is unbelievable. But we had a fantastic time. It is literally unbelievable. It is. I think we were. I think we were six under. So you beat us by a stroke. We played the course the way it was meant to be played everything when we started at one. Okay, So we played like we played 18 holes in the correct order. So we to only had two birdies on the front nine. But then had four on the back. And Yeah, I was with Teddy Greenstein, His buddy Matt, and it was in your co was I was your clothes cart to cart mate, which was great. He had some stories. He's always funny, you know, kept me laughing the entire time pointed out some birds that I did not know their names. And now I do so expect that from now on when we play golf, But you have to learn something as you played. Yeah, I did. Did, but we were out there with the live rescue. I saw 23 legged dogs and by the time I had gotten to them by the time I had gotten to the 10th hole where the puppies were located, there were 23 legged dogs and a puppy. And then just just another another good dog. Oh, was out there as well. And I went up there like Oh, my God. You have three legged dogs like you must be at him. And I'm like, Yes, I am Adam. Because you have heard the tales of my three like a dog. So a bunch of money raised from people in the auction afterwards in the silent auction that went on throughout the day. A great time by everybody. You know, Captain J. Hood and Carmen Yurko broadcast their show and we were out there, you know, at an event seen people again that we haven't see. I mean, some of ur own teammates here at the station that I haven't seen for a year and a half. It was good to see everybody again. Out there and good to do an event and it's you know, kind of like the kick off one for the getting back to normal. And now hopefully will be out there a lot more seen people you know, with waddled Sylvia with US Cap and Jay Hood and Carmen and your co and just being out and about like we used to before all this stuff happened. Big dollar day from the twitch shot. He came up to me. I saw him. I talked to day He was playing in the group behind us. I saw a lot of big dollar Dave. He had a good time. He also was able to witness a conversation between myself. And David Kaplan from Cap and Jay Hood mornings here on ESPN 1000 so he knows there's no beef. He can confirm. It was a nice conversation between the two parties and also big dollar. Dave can confirm That David Kaplan is not the Dave from the Blue Chew commercials, promo code ESPN Go and And also It was a great time because we all had fun. We were there all day. You and I snuck out and we played. We got through 16 holes in the morning before the event start probably played, but we wanted to be on top. I know and we're there to hang out with everyone. So it was a fantastic time. Our marketing team was fantastic. All the sales people that were there to help out. It was fantastic was a great time I enjoyed myself and the guys from blue chip. We had a ball. I mean, it was fantastic and just always remember promo code ESPN and it's all about the launch angle. Even when you're stuffing it off the T, which I did many times, like like, Here's the thing. You and I played early in the morning. This is not to brag, but on our first two holes of the day I chipped in on each, so I chipped in on one and two.

Teddy Greenstein David Kaplan Carmen Yurko Jay Hood Riley Carmen Mel Kiper Sylvia Dave two birdies 18 holes today 16 holes six Matt Adam four tonight two parties seven

"That's how you sort of combat the forgetting by learning at intervals and that's what space. Repetition is so at Practica way of space repetitions to help you during exam. Week is by using A Li does retrospective timetable. So if you guys I know a lot of us. We generally use the prospective timetable during exam. When I say persuade tape. What I'm trying to say is that What we typically do is to kind of say okay. So today is what the twelve Exempts Thoughts on the Twenty Fess. Or maybe fast dream. What I'm going to do is I'm going to study What's I'm going to steady demand and supply Tomorrow new you probably say. I'm went to study economics from tomorrow's of finding then from Saturday to Sunday. Our steady the block. How many times they always say maybe mind be English Tuesday. Social Studies Butts Elite Abdali seen. That's not a good way decrees at timetable because revision is a function of time. It's it's a function of topics. What does he mean by that? The idea behind. His retrospect of Oh. That's I'm sorry for good here this someone into gun transgress and research can hear that but yes the idea behind Ali Abdullah Russia's because I'm able is that You predicts you know what's a steady on what's deeds you contradict on Monday. Just the English or to the ships ladies Yukon Yukon predict. That's and it's a snow at function of like revisionist my function of time in the sense that it's not about how much time he's into steady. This is actually about. What's you studying? Maybe I have algorithms. I have economics have English. We are going to do this. An Algorithms decided topics have steady Bruce Force vitamin conquered Greece and clunker ashes of improvement. While you do. Is you say so Monday. I'm going to study. Probably like Bruce Force In may be divided Hong Kong. And then you ask yourself if the exam was tomorrow would I be happy about like? What's up steady CD? Will I be able to reproduce at steadied to D if North they? You know that sometime in the you have to go back to steady boost force andy vitamin CORNCOB. Because maybe next week if yet as that only you will not be able to do that. And that's those dot that's that's is building on the idea of space or position. If he studied was wasn't an emmy programming on Monday on Thursday usually be studying again? If you are not sure that you'll be able to you'll be able to rights or reproduce enough information if you tested. Don't it's the next rise so it's more about. What yes that. He knew that time so there may be Tuesday kind of scientists that the GDP and How how countries measure productivity or something? You can decide suspended. Does they also asked us off on Tuesday while okay? If I'm tested on this next week would I be able to reproduce? It's probably notes so then you put it down again for Friday. Remind ourselves goal back to steady. Gdp off saying that so Monday. I'm the economics I'm done. Suzanne knew it doesn't work like that. It doesn't work like that you steady in spaced intervals. And then you steady seem things repetitively so at some point you actually know auto information that you studied. That's the idea behind space. Repetition does the idea behind. was called retrospective timetable. And I know that some people will do it. It's kind of like highlights guys about the Cornell. Not Matter what they will do is I did color coded so if they studied and they didn't really understand the do probably California's read. It is studied Measuring CPI and the understood CPI then become probably CPI in blue states or maybe agreed to CPI has the green lights so just if our steady CPI CPI in about a week with in read such studies into D's that's how they do the espy's repetition. So I mean there's no click on tweets do. It's you look at what works best for you and do that. So after space repetition we go on to leave practices and leave practices almost similar. But then we can talk about Active request position with thousand ten breakfast. So the idea behind the leaf practice is that you don't sit down to do three hours of algorithms you don't sit down to three hours of economics what you do is you sit down And your steady block. You do an hour of algorithms you do an hour of e corn. Maybe you do on our of text and meaning and the evidence. Yes shows that interleaving improves retention. When it comes to the Dean for exams so in the book make it stick which you should probably read I think is such a great book has so many good reviews and actually wants to read it. I'm so make us take the authors talk about hockey coach. Who would typically at least to? Smu So training drills and what you do is as soon as he realized that they were get the hang of a particular drew he would immediately immediately. Switch the drill up and he'll send us to like a completely different drill and even though a matron and Hotta because it's like your buddies adjusted to Appalachia drill and then now you are just immediately sent off to a different routine Like we were going to a hits yet but with sadness Buh Looking back the place acknowledged like that even though this may training Longa in Hodeida like does is the main reason why the OSCE achieved significant results. Because the thing is A Oh mind you be like okay. If I'm studying. Moth IS PROBABLY DO OMA. Thri now by then the evidence shows that that's actually know about for doing math for seeing an hour and a half of like focused time and then stop in and then went into English worldwide. Because if you are an engineering students you probably have very very very long. Labs like my roommate sometimes has like three hour labs before our lots of people have more six our labs and stuff you do realize at some point you're just not paying attention anymore. It's not helpful to you as a help. You seen anything Also Nathan Raga does so the thing is this this. This is true because Kansai intuitively is only when Lennon gets harder though we are actually learning and I know it sounds weird because in your mind you think that's when you know suffering land something you're actually learning by apparently north is way you're lending your suffering They actually let it but the idea is behind into leaving. Is that Whenever it gets hot a winner rights and whenever it gets easier here probably doing a wrong because at the gym the more we see lifts the more muscle you build and this is basically the idea behind intend even practices. Or it's leave your practice so we've talked about understanding EH remembering An who spoke about the feminine technique and I talked about actually recall speech repetition. We've talked about in practice. So the last thing was talking about is focused and honestly this is a bit of a hard one for me. Because in terms of focus I don't know I don't know it was kind of live. I don't know what kind of lie I can tell you when it comes to focus in. I don't know what I can see is going to improve your focus or give you some tremendous. I don't know I know. People saying suffering easy been leases. Honestly focusing is all about is about. You is all about you. It's nothing about motivation is not a thing about Was a accord. It's not as is really all about you. It's just discipline. Nobody can teach you how to focus. Nobody can tell you how to focus. 'cause I think we're muscle vision this year. You can wake up and be like wow. I am so in the mood like I am just in the mood. Rhino to was its fees to steady accommodating. Solve like all these questions on. I woke up feeling like crap I will come nor in the Moussa steady but then I don't really have a choice. I'm going to sit. Down and steady does is focus. You being able to steady. I mean that's actually disciplined. And that's how you're able to focus you you focus because you are disciplined. You have made a promise yourself and you are keeping its. That's basically it so I don't know if I disappointed you. But honestly Samson Focus. If I tell you I'll probably just be lying to you like apart from the things I've said over and over again which would be like in steady music and stuff. I can't really think of any other way that you can focus just us again. That species into some calm music but then the thing is discipline so guys thank you so much for coming along with me on this episode I run a little longer than expected. Us always by Annesley. "So. Yeah, they don't want that hanging over their head now more that ruined L moral was crushed his two boys. He talked about that in the post game, here's Lucas g leader was on with cap today as a as a player. I I mean coming up through the minor league, I saw some bad one. I've seen a few bad ones here at this level, guys. Hit the ball really, really hard now. So it's, it's a tough situation. You know, some sometimes people aren't paying attention well enough to stand. Sometimes there it's just you can't avoid it could be like a one hundred fifteen mile an hour line drives. You know, I wouldn't even be able to get out of the way of something like that. So I it's really unfortunate to see. I think I am in a proponent of, of extending the netting, just for everyone's safety. But at the same time, I know people are like, oh, well that takes away from the. That takes away from the, the authenticity or whatever I I'm not sure I think that safety is more important than anything else making sure that fans are safe when they watch baseball game. So it's pretty much in. When we were in Cleveland for the World Series. I don't recall the netting being to the point where we were. But I can remember being nervous the whole time. Oh my God. If if somebody hits a foul ball this way, we are in prime concussion territory right in the angles, they come on. And the way they Herve like even if you're totally paying attention at one hundred miles an hour for an adult solely tough to protect yourself. Look, Waddell, said it half jokingly but the reality is exit velocity is seeing because of the way pitches throwing it as hard as they are. You know with the balls being June. I'm not joking at all. I think that it's, it's a bigger danger now than ever before as you heard Lucas, g Lido say guys hit the ball. Exceptionally hard these days now, I know they hit him hard years, gone by but again with guys being bigger and faster and stronger than the balls being wound so tight, you're asking you're asking for more of what we saw last night, unfortunate. We'll take your calls at three one two three three two three seven seven six. Jason bonetti. We'll talk about this as well and the White Sox at three oh, five. What now this is the end. Scoreboard. It says Toronto's, minus one dollars. Got it on where the warriors are at one point. Well, let's go with that, because you're sure he referenced gambling site. "Joe after the game talking about Kris Bryant side of the hitter neck, somehow. That's what I'm hearing. I didn't watch the replay it but they apparently something hit him here. And then head neck kind of an area. That's what I'm getting from the conversations and you get a chance to look at it, though. Yeah. Now only that play. But the sloppy play overall from Joe Madden started with the rundown. You know, that when when rundown broke down since L hustle, double and a fly ball, just a communication situation. And you know in his ballpark with the wind the way it is near that required gets, it's just tough. I, I feel really good about what we would how we've been playing till today. I mean this whole month we've been in almost every game except this may be the one against Milwaukee. So there's not a whole lot to be upset about. And I'm not I just wanna make sure everybody's well moving forward. That's it. All right. Abdali of a cubs lineup there. So Hayward and Chris Bryant are both out Hayward has a sore hip, and he's out of the lineup and Kris Bryant. Also out of the lineup couch Schwarzer lead often left. Havi buyers will be your d h today since they are playing the Astros in Houston. Anthony Rizzo at first Wilson controllers catching Jim achie-, the recent call up. He will be in right? Albert Elmore junior in center Daniel, the scalp go the scou-, so excuse me at second Addison, Russell playing shortstop and David Bodey will be in at third for Chris Bryant's in Cole hamels against Gary cold today. Ten star culverts hamels, are you worried long for Chris Bryant? I don't I'm not. But it's interesting that they're bringing someone in they haven't said what he has yet. So Jesse riders is tweeting that there's no stay. Rated diagnosis yet he's quote under evaluation. So if it's a concussion again, then I'm concerned if it's just a strained neck in, you know, it, it's one of those things where, you know, he just kinda got hit and it's going to take some time for it for, you know, to be unbridged, or whatever it is or unstrained, or he just needs to work it out a little bit or something like that. He didn't dislocate anything. He didn't do that. The only thing I'm worried about with Kris Bryant is if it's a concussion if it's a concussion. Then obviously, he's dealt with this before we don't we all know what happened last time when he got hit in the head the long term effects that had him obviously, this wasn't as bad, as, as getting hit with a baseball in the head, but it's only not bad, if you didn't get the concussion right like he's the one advocate gushing. It's going to be bad, if he has a concussion. So I'm not I'm only worried if it's that and you've stated this, you know you just did that when he got hit in the head before there was a problem for Kris Bryant at the plate. And he's been hitting. Well, yeah. So you would hate to see a step back this season. When he is doing positive things at the plate as of late, you know, started off really slow but really coming into zone in the last three weeks. Yeah. And it's been awesome this month. This might be a different situation if it is a concussion just because the lasting cousin was him getting hit in the head with baseball like this didn't happen at the plate that might have been more of a mental thing. I don't know if that was a concussion related thing more of a mental thing of getting hit in the face with a pitch. You know what I mean? So I think that ultimately, we'll find out he's still under evaluation. So hopefully we find out in the next day or two of what's wrong with Kris Bryant but the move for Ducci and him starting and right. And having boaty started third. This, obviously means with the call of you might be out. He's out at least today he might be out tomorrow. We'll we won't know anything long term, because Joe Madden has said pre-game that he still under evaluation. Cubs and Astros today at one ten the cubs are thirty and twenty one the Astros thirty five and nineteen both of these teams. The poster boys for the tank for high. Draft picks. Bill your core of young positional players. All teams have won a World Series championship as of late the cubs in two thousand sixteen the Astros in two thousand seventeen bowl teams and first place right now. And when you take a look at both teams, you know, really as we look at big picture for this last five ten years of baseball that tank to get players and bounce back up to the top of the league to say, you know, us just in the middle doesn't really cut it. They are really the two poster examples to how to do that in major league baseball. And that's why we're seeing on the south side for the White Sox them trying to do the same thing. We've seen other teams the royals other teams across major league baseball the Padres trying to the same thing tank. The as bad as you can the jump up to the top. Both of these teams have successfully done it. We'll see how they kind of take that going forward. That's why I'm tuned into this series you know this year. Yeah. First place teams, it means something, but also in the bigger picture. It's interesting. It's interesting and fascinating to watch the Astros, and the cubs because as of late, they are the two teams have done it. Successfully, not only the Astros and the cubs, Chris. But you just look at the cubs at this point in the season as we start June is the official start of the summer as baseball just kind of starts to be the everyday occurrence, you know, like you have the days off early in the season, you have the quote, dog days as people are correcting me late in the season Mondays memorials to me. This is the lazy. This is the part where you just hasn't started. No, no. You can't lazy start as you and I you and I go two days ago. Right. Okay. And you get to holes like eleven through fifteen and you're just like where, where am I what was my word would capture? Exactly. Yeah. That's we talked about this pod. While we were on the court. So we don't try and Pownall not from a golfer like knowing I was not going to take. So you're the bad guy here because I was just they'll let me finish. You just jump in. Of course work they shift too much. You just jump in and interrupt. You know, so pardon the interruption. Take that shot. No such showed. No Shasha point is this. This is just the time of year where baseball just happens every day. This is the time of year. Where baseball season, the to me, this is where you make your this is where you separate yourselves. The Astros are seven games up in their division right now. The cubs are only up a game and a half and their division. You've got games against the Astros. You've got to series here against the cardinal, you've got to series against the Rockies. You've got a series against the dodgers, you've got you've, and then towards the end of the season or the end of the month it gets a little easier. You've got four games against the Mets. And then I don't know those pesky reds again at the end of the month. But this is the time to play them. Well man, I understand, but this is these next two weeks. Or when you're going to be able to see how the, the cubs may be stack up against some of the better teams you've got like I said the Astros, the cardinals the Rockies and then the dodgers, you're going to see how this team stacks up. This is when you can start making your move because you don't think the Astros fans are looking and saying. Hey look, we're off seven games by the end of the month. Why can't we be up fourteen games? Right. And are they the best team in baseball? Yeah. Because, you know, can Tana you Darvish, they didn't give you the outings you wanted this weekend. And that's what's holding the cubs back when you take a look at is this team the best team in baseball. It's a pitching staff. I know they've been great to this point of the season. We've Kontani Darvish, are no good the rest of the way out or at points. You're going to look back and say, you know, I get Makoto wasn't completely. Right. But maybe the staff isn't as good as we thought it was start the season. Yeah. Absolutely. I think that, you know you look at you Darvish in the way he ate up innings, and that was fine. But ultimately, it was his longest outing, and he did what he was supposed to do two days ago. He went in and he ate a bunch of innings to try to save the bullpen. He gave a bunch a bunch of runs. Kettani gave up a bunch of runs. But the front of the rotation aside from John Leicester's bad outing the last time, which he happens to even the greats every once in a while. But hendrix. Hamels and Lester are pitching. Well, they're they're doing their jobs. It's it's the back half of the rotation now so much last time out. I literally just said, I literally just said it happens are you listening to what I'm saying? Are you too busy in that chair from nine to noon tweeting, and on your Instagram Snapchat? Is that what this is? Chris Buckingham valley, here on ESPN one thousand and the SPN apps sing in for David Caplan today. Let's switch to this the NBA finals. They start on Thursday. You can hear every game of the NBA finals right here on ESPN one thousand. Warriors raptors and the fallout for what took place with the Milwaukee Bucks. And we will talk with kurkin balk at ten thirty to break breakdown that series the final series. Let's talk about Yoenis onto the comp-. Oh, dollar because we discussed throughout the weekend. Whether or not he had that next step to change his game to do something in the future, where he is a player where if you take away and driving to the basket he'd be able to adapt to create for others to head and open jump shot from the outside and from what we saw enforce straight games against the raptors. He couldn't do so he couldn't change. I know twenty four I know he's great athle-. But when you take a look at John is right now to me, he's a bit of a gimmick, even though he's good. He is not great in the NBA this moment. Well, the greats tend to adjust their game as they go on. Right. Michael Jordan added LeBron added everybody gets better as the years go on. And until they hit. At their peak. Right. So I feel like what we need to see from Yoenis is that we need to see him develop an outside game. We need to him to be able to develop an outside shop, because what happens is all he can do is like you said, the gimmick he crashes into the lane. Does a quick Eurostep tries to get the layup tries to get the dunk. And that's all he's really good for. But ultimately, he's one of the best players in the NBA. He is the MVP this year. But you look at him versus you had not really kind of the same player but you had to superstars going against each other one clearly has playoff experience. He was an NBA finals MVP. He's got that outside shot. He's great defensively and he can also donkey, get in the lady can crash like just like you honest, can you can do the euro step, all that kind of stuff? The difference is late in the games when we were sawing we were watching the Eastern Conference finals when the bucks were down seven late six late who's taken the three point shot, your best player should be able to hit that three point shot and their best players Jaanus, and he could not hit that three point shot and what you're seeing from the raptors Kawai can hit that three point shot. They've got guys like Fred vanfleet hitting three point shots. Those are the kind of teams that move on to the NBA finals like they did. But when the bucks came down.

"Thanks for joining us. We appreciate it. All right. Take care guys. That's Jeff Han Gundy right here on ESPN one thousand I'm Chris Blackwood. Jeff Dickerson singing for Waddell, and Sylvia, Abdali Meller or here as well. Jaydee Luke Walton caught death and listed it looks like Luke Walton is going to go from the Lakers to the Sacramento Kings. That's the reports floating out there. How about that? Chris. Well, look, you can say goodbye to your beautiful home in Malibu or beats. And and welcome to Sacramento now, Luke Walton was on the Lakers teams with Phil Jackson's the coach when Phil. So called Sacramento kowtowing wasn't. He he was there. So he knows. It's right. I mean, you look at it though. That's probably upgrade for him. Just because you get away from LeBron James. Yeah. But you gotta deal with Lottie though. Well, yeah. Right. But you you have a young core team. That was exciting to watch this season, you do but you're in Sacramento, and then you have Lottie as your GM what? The Lakers thing is is a debatable. I mean from magic having the impromptu press conference, we just kept talking to every reporter as he tried to leave the staple center still there. He's still there. Just talking to the guy that was cleaning up the fifty nuts after the last game of the year. He's still hasn't tell told the bus. Available overseas on vacation or something. So so now now they're talking about maybe tied Lou or a Monty Williams go onto the Lakers. I think I think guys I think LeBron to just say the heck with it player. Coach just beat the player coach and see what he can do see who he can get in there. Because that whole thing is going to get reset. If you're rob Pelinka right now, the Rob Lowe looking like GM for the Lakers. His job is the he's not going to be around next year. Right. It's not safe. And you're right about the player coach thing. Because no matter how gifted of a coach, you are or how much of a resume you bring to the table LeBron's going to outweigh whatever you do newly even with Spoelstra. Lebron had issues was supposed to have from time to time like LeBron's never happy with whatever coachie gets. No. And now and now if you're going to reunite him with Thai Lou, okay? I mean Monty Williams has a good resume, but the whole thing Chris. As if they don't get some big names to play with him. Forget about it. I went to the United States this year. I watched the Lakers team. They beat the bulls that night. Lebron went off he had a great game. But you see the guys that they have around him except for like who's Ma? And you're like this is the Lakers. Like, this is what you've got right now. I'm sorry is great as LeBron is there's no way he can win with a team like that. As evidenced by the record this year, not making the playoffs. But if you're a high profile guy, and you know, the is getting older and magic just pulled his exiting act. They just fired the head coach, Chris how attractive is Los Angeles going to be this. You ask the question. Jeff Van Gundy gave you good answer. I don't know if you would've told me before magic, you know, flip and freaked out and all this happened. I would have said, oh, absolutely. The Lakers are going to load up. But can you really say that right now if everything that's happened? No in especially when you look across town, and they share a building right now. But. At some point the clippers are going to get their own arena out there, and they look like the more. Well, put together franchise that how's everything better coach better for an office? They have to max slots this offseason, go after free agents. And there are a team that made the playoffs even though they trade away their best player in season. So I mean, I it's all very fascinating. Chris black Jeff Dickerson in in for Waddle and Silvy here on ESPN one thousand guess, what's next Jaydee? Oh, is it the award winning? Yeah. Waddles world. Yes. Jeff Miller and Adam dollars. Well, the four of us are here. Waddles world is up next right here on ESPN one thousand north.

Bears will release kicker Cody Parkey at the start of the new league year

"Let's talk about the Chicago Bears. They are going to release Cody parkey at the start of the new league year sources confirmed ESPN today. Sources are we are we surprised I mean, I don't think this is a surprising move. I think I think that the the timing of it the way that it just kind of came out of the blue from Ian Rapoport tweeting it out confirmed by Adam Schefter. So now, it's basically official until they do it. The league year starts in the middle of March. That's when the the free. Agency, period begins teams can sign players teams can trade players and teams can release players. And one of those players will be Cody parkey, it's going to cost the bears on the dead cap. Five point five point one five point one almost five point two million dollars. So they're going to basically have to pay to kickers next year. You're going to have to pay Cody parkey to go away. And then you're gonna have to pay whoever ends up being the bears kicker whether that's someone that they draft hopefully, not or someone that they sign whether it's veteran, whether it's an undrafted free agent, weather, whoever it is they're going to have to pay to kickers the article on ESPN dot com says parking miss eight field goals, including a forty three yard kick. That would have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. We know that with his first season with the bears the bears signed parking for a four year four year deal including nine million dollars guaranteed last March bears coach Matt Nagy express disapproval with park Parke's decision to appear on the today show five days after missing his final attempt after. Filadelfia? The NFL network was first to report that parkey will be released from the Chicago Bears. So that's dot com and Abdali, you're right. Like it's not a surprise as a bears fan. I think we all saw this coming and you're right. They're going to have to pay to kickers again not much of a surprise because we all saw this coming the thing that I want to see is allow someone to win this job this summer, right? Undrafted rookie guys who are out there on the street right now have a kicking competition this summer in training camp allowed the guy to win that competition and that will be your kicker heading into the season. I don't want to spend any more big dollars on a kicker now. That's just my philosophy. I'm Chris black. And that's what I do if I'm running a football team. I don't spend on kickers. That's just why do I also don't draft running backs in the first round. And that's how I run my organization, and I continued drafting quarterbacks until I find the guy that's how I would run things. So I get it that Ryan pace has. Messed up. I'm glad that Ryan that Cody parkey will be gone, but let's not mess up again and pay big time for a kicker whose unnecessary. Let's just find someone who can get the job done probably at the league minimum. And let's go on our merry way. Because in all reality. I know what a lot bears fans are going to tell us is the reason they didn't win the Super Bowl this year. Was Cody parkey. And I think that that's not correct. I think the reason you lost that eagles game is because that kick did not go through. But you also had opportunities where you could win the football game. And not put it in your kickers. Put you see what I'm saying? So the bears have many opportunities going forward to be a very good football team. And I think overspending on a kicker after this mess up by Ryan pace in in signing, Cody parking in the first place. Let's not compound this issue. Let's just find the guy in training camp. And let's go forward as bears fans. Yeah. I think the reason that you lost that game is because Cody parkey had to make three. Kicks to set up that fourth kick. Right. And then Mitchell Trubisky didn't get his blank together until the second half of the game. And then drove them down the field in what should have been a game winning drive. And then ultimately you the team's effort was placed on Cody parkey. I'm not gonna sit here and let you slander Mitch Trubisky tonight Abdala the defense also had an opportunity to stop. Yeah. Did who is not a outstanding quarterback zone? Right. Like the bears defense. The best defense in the league could have shown up in the fourth quarter in stop the eagles. Offense, thus negating the necessity of Cody parkey to even have to make a kick out the end opportunities to beat the eagles in that football. Here's a will. Appease the fan base. You've already done the first thing you've cut Cody parkey, check, right. The next thing is not don't answer to the cries of the fans and say go sign Robbie gold Ella. Rodney gulp. Ravi builds. Great kicker. Great kicker. Wasn't a good kicker when he was cut by the bears. But ultimately said that's what he needed to get back. So don't call up and say, well, he was he he's being great. They would've won. No, they wouldn't have if they wouldn't have ever if they would cut him. It's a cutting him for him to go back and figure out a new to readjust his kicking to figure out a way to get right again. And he did. And now he's good kicker again. He's also gonna be expensive. So don't spend that money. Don't spend an extra five million dollars that extra nine. Dollars or whatever signing Ravi gold. Go find next Ravi gold. Spend the minimum like you said don't draft either. No don't be drafting kickers. We're not drafted running backs in the first round. Have a whole lot of traffic in this strap. We shouldn't be you shouldn't go out and try to draft a kicker because you have to address other issues on this team. And that's going to be done with those draft picks you find the undrafted free agent. You hold tryouts. You do whatever you do make it a Disney movie. I don't care. Find a kicker and find a way because you don't will. Appease the fan base ultimately

"They can learn to get logged gimme a break. See now what he said was. I disagreed with him at the beginning. And then agree with them at the end. He's a former pitcher so he's obviously going to say it's very very difficult for pitchers, but I think that pitchers should have the balls called, right? I'm always been for strikes on that the pitchers would hate because pitchers love getting the ball called a strike. That's a little bit outside of the strike zone. Okay. The other said they'll they're talking about lowering them out a little bit and somebody even floated the idea of moving the mouse back. That's right. Gotta stop it. You can't be moved to the mound back. I don't understand when it comes to the height of the mound. I don't understand why you have about it. All period, wanted just raw flat ground like everybody else. Does. I don't know why you throw off a mound. Once they had the who was too high. They lowered it and other thing about lower. And again, you don't need amount that if you don't have a mound, would you bring somebody into pitch. They don't need any warm up throws to get adjusted to the mound understand someone's got to explain to me why there's a mound. It does make the pitchers more dominant over the hitter. Yeah. So, but why do you want that? Why do you want the pictures more dominant? And if you want more offense, get rid of the mound altogether. Have the pitcher's thrown off flat ground. They won't be able to come down hill and throw the ball one hundred and four miles an hour. Whatever it is. I mean, I think that I'm not gonna rage against the the mound itself. But I think that the the the way you add more offense. There's there's all these different ways of that people are trying to control the game that don't make any sense to me. The mount is something I guess you could do if you wanted to. But to me like the three batter minimum for pitchers and the pitch clock is a good idea. It's a great idea the three batter minimum not not allowing a shift like that. You can't tell someone how to play defense game. It's stupid. Like, I get like in basketball, there's certain defensive violations and stuff. Stands somewhere because that's where you tend to hit the ball. Stupid it somewhere else basketball. You bring a basketball basketball's a perfect example right zone defense enters the NBA, then they create rules to limit you on how you players on defense, right opinion. And then offense got better and now nobody plays zone defense. So if if you want you get mad at defensive shifting how about the hitters get better. It's a game of skill. And it's a game of strategy. How about you get better as a player of said because if you think of it the opposite way, if you get rid of the mound pitches are going to say, well, we have to the hitters are gonna say we'll adjust and and then the pictures are going to have to adjust. Whereas if you say don't shift and the hitters have to go. Well, what are we supposed to do? Everybody else goes will adjust. So you have to adjust in the way, you can't say, I'm not gonna stand somewhere. You also can't say I'm going to only use this pitcher from that's that's strategy, especially if you add the D H in both leagues because then that's your only strategy credits. The point of a manager. Then you just right out a line of card and a lot of places a computer can do that. Because they just look at averages, and they just look at the statistics, and they go, here's your optimal lineup, and they just do that a lot of times they said that they do that. Anyway. Right. They give it to the managers say here's the suggested lineup for today's game. That's what I'm saying. So what's the point of a manager? Then what are we just not going to have managers then because you can only you have to use pitchers for three batters? What's the point? While the pictures for three batters is just so you don't see a continuing. You know is Carl Edwards user for one guy here sees shack for one guy. Here comes you know, last year, Justin Wilson for one guy. Do that during the playoffs because that's part of the strategy having a batter versus a pitcher is part of the strategy. And I was gonna say to Jesse but he had to get on his flight is strike outs. Are only cool in high leverage situations like nobody cares about strikeouts in the regular season. But if I'm watching a postseason game and somebody gets a big strikeout, then it's cool. So if you wanna do that if you want to do the three batter minimum it should only be the regular season. Because in in the playoffs all that stuff. Man. That's the part I disagreed with with or actually I agreed with police out because we do reward guys to twenty thirty five homers, and how many B is and what they're all doing at the onset of two. It's all about launch angle. You know, what the Red Sox won because they believe in launch angle until they get two strikes. And then they put the ball in play because they changed their philosophy. You know, like what? Comes to do that. But when they can to strikes they're still worried about launching. Okay. But please sat complaining because players getting paid based on what teams are willing to pay them based on their stats is just so back in my day complaining nonsense. That's all it is is he's complaining about. We would have rewarded for RBI? Well, okay. That's a team stat Champa Leguay. What's the big deal is the difference though? Nobody's paying for it. Because the two best players in baseball already paying players in baseball just are sitting on their hands right now. Or paying for a twenty by thirty five home runs is because it's helping the team win. That's why it's moneyball money by. Listen, not everything can be like it was back in the day. That's just the case. It's things change. That's it. But I like that annoying reason the older players are complaining because of how the guys are getting paid now. That's that's annoying. I don't what you'd rather have been zobrist get paid the most because he doesn't strike out flyers fan. He does what he's supposed to do. He does what baseball players was supposed to do. They have to fix. I have to start paying differently. Like, I don't understand that complaint. Or from you. The money's coming up. Nearly you're bringing the money up. I don't think the money's being brought baseball players. He said that you guys are being paid for. Okay. But but basically he's saying that we want. We don't care if our guys all had to twenty with thirty five home runs pointed out that that's better strategy for them. But but it's not always. Okay. The teams that have the wasn't. Okay. Well, how many how many World Series has rice Harper one Bryce Harper strikes? A lot Bryce Harper point out. He hasn't been paid yet. He's not getting he was any, you know. Anybody right now for for the reason is that sure there twenty-six, but they don't want to give anybody a deal because all of a sudden now everybody's too old at thirty one thirty two thirty three. If you give a twenty six year old a ten year deal. He's gonna be thirty six. Well, they don't want that. Exactly. That's why they're not paying him. Yeah. Not that they're saying you're not worth thirty million a year. If you say you're not worth thirty million a year for ten years. You take off the reports it's not that they're not paying them. It said the players aren't accepting the offers is what it is. Like the offers are out there. The what's his name Victor Gomez? No, no, no, no. The guy. Hold on. Hold on. I've guy right here of Dr Gomez. Okay. St. Mysterious Hector Gomez brought it up. Go ahead. No, you can't read that far Fred. So I wanted to ask you is Hector Gomez yesterday responded to the score a website reported that the Yankees offered may Machado a two hundred twenty million dollar contract. Hector Gomez from the Dominican Republic responded saying according to my source. The White Sox offered him to fifty for eight years, right? So this is on MLB dot com right now. So it's a article that's on MLB dot com right now, saying multiple reports south offseason have indicated the White Sox often the main Machado was seven years one seventy five is it possible that the White Sox went back and offered even more to may Machado and the offer is eight years two hundred and fifty million. What do you think about that? If you read the tea leaves to Hector Gomez sources, Manny Machado father. That's that's what people are going off. It comes out to like thirty one point two five million a year. That's fine. It's an eight year deal. And I'm sure that there's going to be an out after the fourth or fifth year. And that's the kind of deal that they're looking for. I don't wanna has floated a couple times a lot of people have agreed with them out. After three years would be good for both sides Norwood and out after three years would not be good for the White Sox. Because after one or two years, you just get there. Then the third year maybe you get close and don't win. And then all of a sudden you've got to pay him more money or he's going to be gone and he wants to get out. And then you're gonna have to read you'll go she had a deal. You know, if you if you waited a player option, that's that's what they're looking for. If you made it a team option to the team the players side. Don't anyone say, well, if I have a couple of years all of a sudden, you're gonna let me go. So I don't mind eight years. Eight years is okay. Because there's going to be an I'll probably after five to fifty for eight years would be the fourth richest contract ever signed a major league baseball history. If that's what's on the table from the Chicago White Sox. Why has? Machado signed yet last. He's waiting for the Yankees unless he's waiting for the Yankees come up with something else. So you feel as a White Sox fan? Did you do enough is that okay? Is it SAS Maccari that you put that on the table? If he doesn't take it. It's all right. We'll keep it will move forward. Yeah. All right. That's how I feel. I feel like you made the effort, and if he doesn't wanna come here the future still building, right? You don't have to win next year. So it's okay. You can maybe spend in the year after year after that. That's fine. Agriculte Beck's not pitching it. All this coming year. Seemed other builds been pushed the holy another year. We come back and talk some basketball Zach Harper the athletic, some big comebacks you. Call big comebacks or big losing yesterday. "If you're one of the people that attempted to kick yesterday a coup silent. Sorry, you missed. I would you know, people say, well, how about the guys that made it nobody made it? Don, I were there with Michael junior. He'll join us at ten o'clock. You'll also see the footage of him on sportscenter. I saw earlier this morning. They're also going to play it on golick and wingo on Monday morning. Thanks rene. And Todd at goose island for having us all out. It was awesome. Fred, and like it was such a fun events because they blocked off the street and from goose island on the west side over by the United Center on Fulton. And it was they had like streetcars setup. So there was food. There was beer. There was people hanging out if you weren't taking there were probably what three hundred people watching and sharing. It was awesome. And no one made the kick. There was an eight foot fence in front of where you a kick. So it kinda was like resembling like a blocking line reaching up guy. It was very difficult, and it was pretty obvious early on that no one was gonna come close on on making this forty three yard field goal, especially because of the weather had a lot to do with people slipping, and it was pretty evident early on that when the first eight out of ten people hit the fence that like they need to know you need you need to get lift on these kicks. And nobody we were talking during the break. Nobody got the the like the look of a kicker when a kicker watch during today's games if you think you can do this watch a kicker on a field goal. And what they do. If I watch the follow and watch a kicker on a kickoff. We had Dan Durkin was on Waddle and Silvy on Friday, and he kicked it. And he said when he would he was taught to kick you always let a golf swing right? You always let the crowd tell you whether or not you've made the kick because you're supposed to keep your head down. Just like a follow through like when you look when you hit a golf ball. So you're not supposed to pick your head up. You're not supposed to do any of that. And none of these guys. A couple of guys said they'd kicked in high school or whatever. But no one looked like they were a kicker, right? And it's probably the elements. You try to you know, you try you're trying to impress people. Try because they put the heavy astroturf down there. Because a lot of people said where you're kicking off ashphalt where they didn't they kicked off the astroturf which was which was. Cool, but because of the snow that fell. Yeah. It was bad. So if you watch sports center or you see all these different videos of the cups of all the guys kicking the first guy that kicked down I interviewed him before he kicked it's on Twitter feed the live feet of us interviewing him, and I walked up to him. And I said, by the way, the media people are trying this right now, and they're just hitting the fence, you gotta account for the fact that this offense is pretty high and pretty close to you guys kick it over he looked at me dead in the in the eye, and goes Wyman athlete. I'm gonna make it was like. Prophetic? He's the first guy win and slipped and fell. Well, there you go. He he just looks so dejected, I think don't know Chevy Orion, Chevron host the windy city live. I don't know if he attempted. He was there. I don't know if you you know. Stuck in my throat? Tempted to kick. But he was there golick junior. He he got it over the fence. But he obviously didn't he didn't make it. Spoiler alert. We did not attempt to kick. I didn't. I didn't want to put the the people that shame. But we did not attempt. Yeah. I mean to be honest when you get there. It was pretty obvious. No one was gonna make kicks. So there's like like I looked up dollars. Like, there's no way I can get that. There's no anger embarrassment. So I mentioned before we went to commercial breaks out. There is some good news that come from this. So if you're someone out there, that's like why is everyone so mean-spirited? Why is this such a negative thing? Making fun of Cody parkey since there was no winner yesterday. Goose island offer to donate twenty thousand dollars. So the charity of Cody Parke's choosing. And that charity will be lorries children's hospital. So the goose island will be giving twenty thousand dollars lorries children's hospital. We all had fun. It was a great time. Everyone enjoyed it. That was there. Even the people that missed the guys that are kicking they fell they got up. They laughed. It was a fantastic event. It was a lot of fun. Great job goose island. We'll talk more football. And we'll talk with one of the guys that attempt to the kick. Mike Golic junior. Will join us. We come back. It is a black Abdali Hubner here on ESPN.
