"Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific mortgage at Andrew and Todd dot com. This national tragedy has happened and it's some lunatic email me Charlie it's not a national tragedy. Let me just shut up. It is, okay? You got 19 elementary kids. Murdered in a classroom, all right? So yes, it is. That doesn't happen every day. God forbid. So we're kind of on the fly here. And so. The whole thesis that we had here was that Democrats are going to overly politicize this and make it all about themselves and their political agenda. And as if right on cue, Robert Francis o'rourke couldn't allow governor Abbott to host a press conference on mental health and the facts related to it and barnstorms and bum rushes the stage like an unhinged activist and start screaming with his flailing arms of which there's not a detectable ounce of testosterone or muscle mass on the entire being of the wannabe Hispanic Irish man trust fund baby open border advocate gun grabbing activist from El Paso, Texas, who hell yes is going to take away all your guns soon to be three times failed candidate in Texas where he can't win a Senate race. You can't win a presidential race and he's not going to win the governor's race. And man, again, I have plenty of disagreements with governor Abbott on a lot of things. I don't think he acts fast enough. I think he's been fine. I don't think he's like Kemp, who's a total disaster. But if you want to turn me into a big Greg Abbott fan, congratulations, Robert Francis o'rourke. You've done that as you bum rush the stage and make yourself look like a fool, make your entire political party look like nothing more than opportunists. Okay, all right, let's just play it. Excuse me. You're out of line and an embarrassment. And you're doing nothing. No, please. How do you sit in the place to talk to yourself? This is totally predictable when you are out of line. Sir, you're out alive. I'm sure you are alive. Please leave us all. I can't believe you're a 6. Did we come to a deal like this to make a political issue? Sounds like he, why don't you get out of here? I'm not quite sure what Robert Francis o'rourke was saying, but he felt necessary to bum rush the stage and Ted Cruz is just losing it. And I think just kind of like the local sheriff came up and was like, you're an embarrassment. How dare you do this? We have not identified all the bodies. Hasn't been 24 hours and Robert Francis o'rourke needs to turn it into a massive press conference. And the radical left is going to reward him. He's going to do all the press. He's going to be on shows tonight. Robert Francis rock challenges Greg Abbott. I'm just going to make a prediction right now. You ready for this? Connor, keep your eyes on all the propaganda rags. I can't wait. Robert Francis o'rourke challenges Abbott to his face on failed gun policy. Robert Francis o'rourke goes up to Dan Patrick and Ted Cruz and shows him who's boss. Robert Francis o'rourke or beto o'rourke embodies the rage in the anger felt by millions. So they're going to try to spin it into something that it isn't where he's like politicizing a funeral. We need to think about that. The politicizing a funeral. Yeah, so Robert Francis work said it's on you. The recount, which is a left wing propaganda site, said quote, in a striking moment. Ridiculous. Texas gubernatorial candidate beto o'rourke interrupts Greg Abbott's press conference on the Yuval day shooting..

" I'm Mike Gracia reporting lawmakers are digging in along political lines in the wake of the Texas school shooting. After two mass shootings, ten days apart, first in Buffalo, New York, then at an elementary school day, Texas, politics again divides the debate about guns in America. It involved a Wednesday. Former congressman beto o'rourke, whose challenging Republican governor Greg Abbott interrupted an Abbott news conference. This is totally predictable when you serve, you're out of line. In Washington members of Congress predictably marked their turf. Republican senator Tommy tuberville of Alabama. Guns are not the problem, okay? People are the problem. FDA chief under fire for slow response to baby formula issue

"The head of the Food and Drug Administration faced fury from both parties in the house over months of delays investigating problems at the nation's largest baby formula plant that prompted an ongoing shortage FDA commissioner Robert califf told Congress the coronavirus slowed down efforts to investigate problems at the abbot plant We knew that ceasing plant operations would create supply problems but we had no choice given the insanitary conditions The ranking Republican on the committee Virginia's Morgan Griffith quickly zeroed in on the slow response Why did it take an onslaught of national media attention for the Biden administration to act with the sense of urgency that is required to adequately address an infant formula shortage Formula had to be airlifted from Europe to help ease the shortage Abbott and the FDA have reached an agreement to reopen the plant next week Ed Donahue Washington

Politico: FDA, Abbott Reach Deal to Reopen Shuttered Infant Formula Plant

"Baby formula it's amazing isn't it Politico FDA and Abbott reached deal to reopen shuttered form you plant Biden administration also released plans to ease strict import rules on infant formula from overseas amid shortages So we talked about this the other day right That they won't allow formula in the country from the European Union which actually in some respects has stricter requirements than here in the United States And that the FDA had its foot on the throat of Abbott and wouldn't let them really effectively produce more infant formula even though an investigation determined that four toddlers who got ill to who died that it had nothing to do with Abbott And their production facilities Now luck how easily this was fixed Or is being fixed it's still going to take weeks but you get my point First Biden says he's not a mind reader and first of all you have to have a mind to read But that said we talked about these two issues before Let ab produce let average produce an import infant formula from Europe

Abbott Says Agreement Reached to Reopen Michigan Baby Formula Plant

"Abbott agrees to FDA oversight of Michigan baby formula plant. Look, they signed a consent decree yesterday to reopen the Michigan Abbott plant. That consent decree could have been signed a month ago, Abbott is strenuously protested from the beginning that their infant formula had nothing to do with the infant death being investigated across the country. The FDA was using at moving at its usual snails pace, its bureaucratic morass, plunging the country into a baby formula crisis that is real. So they got an order. It's pretty easy to surmise here what happened. Ron klain or someone from the president's office called over to the FDA and said, open that plant. And the FDA said, how do we save a little face here? I know we'll do a consent decree that says they can open the plant. And so their plant will be up and it's going to take a while.

Joe Biden: FDA Controls Baby Formula Production Process

"First on which to hear from our great leader mumbles I mean Biden First listen to this Now that you heard that that news item from February 8th CNN And that this goes way back to November and even before 6 months Caught one go Republicans have said that your administration should have anticipated this baby formula shortage before Are you satisfied with your administration's response so far And some of the steps that you and your administration are taking now including loosening these import requirements next week You have taken those steps sooner before parents got to these shelves and couldn't find formula If freed man better mind readers I guess we could have but we moved as quickly as a problem became apparent to us And we have to move with caution as well as speed Because we got to make sure what we're getting is in fact we're first rate product That's why the FDA has to go through the process FDA has to go through what process the period I'm reading about had nothing to do with the FDA Had nothing to do with a false alarm about a bacteria in the production of baby formula with Abbott manufacturing I'm not saying the illness of the children was a false story Obviously two of them died in two of them became very ill That's a very serious matter But it wasn't as a result of the production by Abbott And the FDA still sitting on Abbott production and they're the biggest of the bunch And then I hear my fellow I don't know whether they call them conservatives anymore

Daily Mail: Could Take 10 Weeks to Restock Baby Formula, Says Abbott

"Let's look at this baby formula issue As the daily mail puts out Abbott Laboratories said it could be ten weeks Before baby formula is restocked That's two and a half months by my calculation Well guess what Babies can't wait that long Once given FDA approval Abbott's Michigan plant could reopen in two weeks But the company said it will take 6 to 8 weeks to replenish its supply So the plant closed in mid February amid reports of infant illness and death For infants two died two got sick The plant closed in mid February After a thorough review of all the available data Abbott said there is no evidence to link our formulas to these infant illnesses No evidence So what is the FDA doing It's sitting on its hands It's keeping this plant closed Now if Donald Trump were president he would override the FDA and hope and order the plant to be open

Rep. Troy Nehls: Baby Formula Should Go to Americans Before Illegals

"Listen, interesting post, I love that you put up there on your social media baby formula should go to Americans before illegals. How in the world are we sitting here with a crisis and we have all the capabilities in America and we have a shortage right now, congressman Troy. Yeah, I'm assuming here in the next few hours maybe sleepy Joe will get on his do a little press conference or send something out that said it's Putin's fault. No. Security issue, Sam. But it is it's a serious issue obviously when you think mothers out there that have small babies meeting baby formula, but again, there's going to be the blame game. Yes, you got this company. I think it was Abbott industries that had some inspections on and they were shut down because they just, I guess they didn't meet that standard and I believe that they need to be standards and obviously our places that produce all this. But yeah, now we have a crisis on our hand. It's just another crisis in addition to the dozens of other crises we have in our country. But the administration is never going to look at and take any accountability for this. It's always going to be the blame game and they're going to blame something. Someone other than their own administration as to the result of the food shortages, baby formula, supply chain, inflation, gas prices, all of it. It's the blame game. Baby Formula Shortage Adds to Biden’s Growing Stockpile of Problems

"You know, it's terrifying prospect to think that you might not be able to get formula for your child. Now, this again seems like an instance where the administration has been caught flat footed. They don't ever seem to be out in front of an issue. What are we hearing from The White House response on this? Yeah, the Biden administration's response to this has been really lackluster. They actually didn't even really talk about it publicly until a few days ago when press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about this during a press briefing. And she basically pushed the issue on to the FDA, which is understandable. It's under their purview, but also as The White House, when you're trying to lead a country and you have people who are worried about where their baby is going to get their next meal, you have to have an answer for that when somebody asks you about it. And so they haven't really indicated that they're going to be making any major policy changes to address this. Some people have suggested that the Biden administration should add baby formulas to the national emergency stockpile, but that's a longer term solution. People need baby formula now. And so people really want to know what is the Biden administration doing to work with domestic manufacturers to make sure that they are producing at the highest levels possible. When is the FDA going to allow this Abbott plan to reopen? They haven't even given them a date of when that's possible. So this is an issue where once again, they are really leading from behind and responding to crisis that could have been avoided if they had been aware of them much earlier and working to mitigate this problem.

Amber Athey on the Baby Formula Shortage Happening in Biden's America

"I am so excited to bring our next guest on to the show. She's been a longtime friend of mine. She does tremendous work. Amber athlete, she's the Washington editor, the spectator, and she is the host of the unfit to print podcast amber. Welcome to the Charlie Kirk show. Thank you so much for having me. It's great to be here. It's great to have you. Now, amber, you are unfortunately living in the swamp. So I can't remember really not what to talk. I live in California, the people's republic. So, you know, here we are. We're slumming it in blue ville. But nevertheless, you have been doing some tremendous work, I mean, really for since you became the Washington editor of the spectator. I've been paying really close attention. You were obviously at the daily caller before that. But you've been doing tremendous work. Tell us about this baby formula shortage, all right? So this is now something we are hearing about like little whispers about for a little while. And now it seems like it's exploding onto the scene. What's going on? What's behind it? Tell us what's happening here. Yeah, just until a couple of days ago, this was a really undercover story. No one was really paying attention outside of the parents who were, of course, scrambling to find food for their babies. And now it seems to really have exploded onto the media scene. Thanks to the work of a few moms out there who are really just very vocal about this on social media. And what's happening is there's a massive shortage about 40% of the normal market for baby formula is basically nonexistent right now. And that's due to a couple of reasons. Some of it is the leftover supply chain issues from the pandemic and the lockdown. But there was also a major recall of one of the largest domestic manufacturers products that are called Abbott. They're based out of Michigan. And the FDA had this investigation a couple of months ago and pulled most of their product off the market, but oddly enough, Abbott says, you know, we fixed the issues with our formula and yet the FDA has not given us approval to start producing product again. And so that's contributing to this shortage and

Josh Abbotoy Describes American Reformer

"Now I'm talking to Josh Abbott, who's with American reformer. You can find them at American reformer dot org. And before we go further, Josh, what is American reformer exactly? American reformer is an organization that's dedicating to equipping Christians to address the pressing issues of today. We've got sort of two ways in which we do that. We've got a journal where we have folks writing from a conservative Protestant evangelical angle going back to some of the great intellectual heritage that we have and making that available for people today. The other thing that we do is we consult with leaders and Christian institutions regarding how they can best navigate the current cultural moment. So our involvement at grove city, we've written articles about that. We've consulted with folks. And we've been very interested in helping and encouraging growth state to be faithful. And so we're very happy to see what the board has done in this instance.

Josh Abbotoy Gives an 'Exceptional' Update on the Fight Against CRT

"Josh Abbott, welcome. Thank you, Eric. It's good to be back and thank you for having me back on. Well, listen, the reason you were on this program the last time was because we really want to know, are these places that we think of as, you know, the last bastions of academic integrity? Are they sticking to that? And I know that there was some questions about grove city. And of course, that breaks my heart because I think the world of them. So you kind of updated us a while ago. What has happened since then that calls in the category of good news? Yes, something very extraordinary happened that grove city and it really demonstrates the exceptional character of that school and their history and legacy and the folks that are overseeing the school right now. So the board of directors of gross city college established a committee to do a special investigation into CRT and mission drift at the school. This was announced back in February. And then on April 20th, just last week, that committee released its report. And I really want to underscore the exceptional nature of what they did. This is a committee of very serious people. Leaders in business, there were two federal judges of circuit courts on this committee who partook of it and they really did a lot of work. They read scores of books and academic articles. They conducted numerous interviews on campus, including both administration, faculty, other employees, students, they really spent a lot of time and gave a lot of long and hard thought to what was going on. That's very unusual for a board to do. And they wrote up a really lengthy report about what's going on with some very, very good, encouraging findings.

Ron DeSantis Evolved From a State Figure to a National One

"Desantis has turned his state position into a national platform more than any governor in recent memory. People have talked about other governors, Greg Abbott and Texas, Christie nome, as being potential candidates in the future, but I think it's probably fair to say that neither of them are commenting or taken as national figures yet. But scientists really is. He's not just taken as a prospect for the future, but as a national figure now. And CNN has noticed that. They go on to talk about the way that desantis has a cross the board been advancing the conservative agenda. Of course, is, well, his very latest move is to set up, but I kind of love the term, the election police. Now, I don't even think this guy has seen 2000 mules yet, but he's clearly aware that a, there's a problem and B, there's a lot of concern on this side of the aisle about that problem. In other words, no one is ready to forget about well, there are a few Republican establishment of those figure out about the 2020 election. Let's not look in the rearview mirror dinesh. Well, we can't really go forward without knowing the truth about what actually happened. So desantis, I think, has a political antenna that recognizes this. And so he's taking steps in that area. He's obviously pulled the tax support for Disney. And I'll talk about that a little bit later in the podcast today. And on the show, he's taken on critical race theory, the Florida, the state of Florida, that recently rejected a whole bunch of math textbooks. Why? Because they have all kinds of emotional and quote social learning. Well, how do you, when you look at an equation, how does it how does it make you feel? You feel sort of intimidated by numbers. And look, I'm not saying that there's no place at all for some consideration of how you feel. But a little bit of ruthlessness, I think, is the right approach. I mean, I say this is someone who was subject to a pretty heavy handed math education. Memorize this. Remember these formulas. And then just apply them to see which one works in a given situation. This is not ultimately about whether you are feeling sad today. This is about getting the correct answer.

"I mean, it's something you really have to think about now. You have different kinds of decisions, and you just have a different place in the world. Yeah, well, you know, I have a big large family to take care of, so I'm taking care of my family with the power part. I don't know. I'm still examining that, examining what that means for me. I don't know how much I've liked the idea of that, but that doesn't mean it's not the case. So a lot of times it's about how I can be a good leader, how I can hopefully continue to maintain a positive work environment on Abbott, you know, there's somewhere close to 300 people who work on the show. I want to continue to be a good leader of this group that something I have to do and maintain a good work environment. And it's also about, I guess, so far it's about managing. You know, what to do with this new found attention, you know, for instance, one of the decisions that we made as a group with the studio and the network was instead of marketing the show. We're doing well, right? And hopefully I don't regret this, but we're doing well. We have very good ratings. People are watching the show. It was like, well, how about we put this marketing money towards something else? And we chose to put the marketing money towards supplies for teachers. And it's about being able to make those kind of decisions that really excite me. Things that can really materially help people. And I think other than that, you know, I've been prepared for this for a long time. And so I'm just going to keep doing what I have been doing. Well, congratulations on the series. And I just want to say, you know, somebody who got fired after 6 weeks teaching 8th grade. I have such respect and I'm in such awe of teachers who really know how to do it. And who create safe, respectful environments for their students, where their students can really thrive and learn. And I'm grateful to you not only for providing a.

"But I love those teachers, those teachers who just have that kind of magic touch and the kids respect her and listen to her and we'll do what she says. And while chaos is might be happening all around, her students will not be in chaos. How do they do it? I've always wondered, how do they do it? I don't know, you know, my mother has that ability. And that character Barbara Howard is loosely based on my mother. It's something I've watched her do for years and continue to do, to just get a room of children to act right with nothing more than a look. I just think it's a gift. You know, one interesting thing about it is I think my mother has just as much respect for her students as they do for her. And I think that relationship creates a bond. And I think that's very important. That's an important part of that power. No, I know another inspiration for this series was a teacher that you had when you were in 6th grade, wasn't it? Yeah, when I was in 6th grade, my teacher, miss Abbott, who was my first teacher in a new school that was away from my mother. That was my first time going to another school and having this teacher who I was scared. You know, I was scared to go into the real world or what I looked at is the real world at the time. And she just took me under her wing, and I really give her a lot of credit for, you know, helping me leave the nest. So to speak and she was just incredible and incredible teacher who put her all into making sure that her students felt special and were ready for the world. What did your mother do or what did miss Abbott do to reward and to punish kids? Because I think that's always a tough one, you know? Like what should the rewards and punishments be? Rewards are fun. Rewards can vary. My mom, a kindergarten teacher, a star, a nice gold star, can really brighten up a kid's day. And then I think miss Abbott did things like fun trips and fun fun trips and just fun things like doing murals and stuff like that felt like rewards. And honestly, just positive reinforcement, just building confidence, you know? Getting in a, it feels like a reward when you're teaching well when you're doing the job well for your students. I think for punishment, that's a hard one because I think it varies from child to child. I will say about both my mom and miss Abbott, I don't think punishment is really in their vocabulary. I think they always have to look at it as a broader issue. Why is this child acting out? What is going on at home? What's going on in their behavior pattern in this classroom? Because they get to know these students. Very often for my mom, the child that misbehaved the most was kind of like her favorite student by the end of the year. She would have this weird relationship where she would come home and my family would know, okay, this is your problem child this year, but it's also like your favorite child because you come home and talk about them every day..

"This is fresh air. I'm Terry gross, the new hit sitcom. Abbott elementary about the teachers in a majority black under resourced elementary school was created by my guest Quinta Brunson, who also stars on the show. Before getting her own show, she was known for her viral short videos and series on the Internet, like the girl who's never been on a nice date. She was a producer and actor for BuzzFeed video and was a cast member on the first season of a black lady sketch show. Inhabit elementary, she plays a second grade teacher in a Philadelphia school. She's pretty new at the job, and has remained fired up by idealism, but is still pretty naive. The series is a mockumentary. In this scene, from episode one, she's in front of the camera describing herself. What she says is interspersed with a scene from her classroom. She's given her students to the count of three to do what she's told them to do. She's already up to 8 when this scene begins. I'm Janine teagues, I've been teaching second grade here at ebit elementary for a year now. 8. 9. As a product of the Philadelphia school system, I'm proud to say I survived and now teach here today. All right guys, so there have been three presidents since this one, okay? It's an old book, so here's where I taped in the others. I'd say the main problem in the school district is, yeah, no money. The city says there isn't any, but they're doing a multi-million dollar renovation to the eagle stadium down the street from here. But we just make do. I mean, the staff here is incredible. They're all amazing teachers. I really look up to.

Abbott was finally like all right. Stick when we're we're going to let you have a bill on your own. But i'm gonna need you to like stop fighting on everything else. Just sit there quietly. We're going to give you this this parting favor. If it'll shut you up. And and i was like i kind of went along with it and they made a mistake and let me pass it too soon and immediately i went into just burned everything down again and they they got mad and we had scheduled a press conference with grassroots people unpaid volunteers who had been working on this issue for years in the legislature. Who were signed up to be there at the signing of the bill and they were going to get a pen and all this stuff. Because i was a bad boy on another issue that got canceled without telling me or any of these grassroots people and he and i find out that he goes on twitter and does a twitter live. I mean when. I tell you like this. Guy is petty transparency in texas. Right now it is. Everything is a game from. Who's allowed in the press conference to who's allowed to have a bill signing two whose name it's gonna be in it doesn't matter it's all a game and it's the greg abbott show and he's done it to the party. He's decimated the republican party. Structurally it used to be that the republican party a texas had money in the campaign account. They would hire campaign. operatives block walkers they would hold the data from different campaigns and republicans would work together. When greg abbott became governor because of the amount of money that he had he ended up taking ownership of everything all the money had to go through him. In fact the party even stop keeping a regular database like from a campaign perspective. If you were running something. You had to coordinate with greg abbott. Which means you had to be in good with greg abbott. Which means you had to do. What ever greg abbott said and as a result we now have a party where the infrastructure is gone. The blockers and the politico's aren't with the party anymore. They're in greg abbott team. Wow they hold hostage. People people think we're lying. We're not lying This is this is the real real t. Why why did bernie sanders and vermont have constitutional carry before we did here in texas. I mean and when people start to actually get past the facade and the campaign side of the rhetoric and they look at the facts. It's very simple greg. Abbott is not what he said he says he is. Abbot says basically thing differences. He doesn't say he doesn't take it as far as ron does. It's always what never does it. And this is where like the lame stream left wing. Media especially in the national level is so horrible for constitutional republic. Because they don't ask those questions. They have been so lazy about reporting on greg abbott. I've never even seen him do a press conference where he's taking happy the questions rhonda's rhonda santa's jangling with everybody at these practices and answering all the questions you can tell it's worse than that because if you've ever been abbot press conference which i have every detail micromanaged performance. There's not a reporter in there. He's allowed to ask what question they want. Reporters in there like they use that as a tool against the media because they're like and that's why he ended up getting lame reporting by traditional media sources because they're like well if i don't play with their rules that i'm gonna get kicked out of the room and i need access i mean they dangle that in front of them and they have a list of who is allowed in the room. "Adjust your volume. Take a nice deep breath in. Let it out slowly. And off we go. This evening where relaxing with a very curious blend of mathematics and social commentary. Flatland. A romance of many dimensions. Written, and illustrated by a square. Otherwise known as Edwin. A. Abbott. Second and revised. Edition. Published in eighteen, eighty four. Let's begin. To the inhabitants of space in general and HCC, in particular. This work is dedicated by a humble native, a flat land. In the hope that even as he was initiated into the mysteries of three dimensions. Having been previously conversant with only two. So the citizens of that. So mushed, you'll region may aspire your higher and higher. To the secrets of four five or even six dimensions. Are By contributing to the enlargement of the imagination. And the possible development of that most rare an excellent gift of modesty among the superior races of solid. Flatland part one. This world. Be Patient for the world is broad and wide. Section one. Of the nature of flatland. I call our world flat. Land. Not. Because we call it so. Make its nature clear to you. My happy readers who are privileged to live in space. Imagine of vast sheet of paper on which straight lines. Triangles squares. Pentagons hexagons and other figures. Instead of remaining fixed in their places move freely about. On or in the surface. But without the power of rising above or sinking below it. Very much Mike Shadows only hard and with luminous edges. And you will then have a pretty correct notion of my country and countrymen. Alas a few years ago I should have said my universe. But now, my mind has been open to hire views of things. In such country, you will perceive at once that it is impossible that there should be anything of what you call a solid kind. But I dare say you will suppose that we couldn't least distinguished by site. The. Triangles squares and other figures moving about as I described them. On the contrary, we could see nothing of the kind. Not at least so as to distinguish one figure from another. Nothing was visible nor could be visible to us except straight lines. And the necessity of this I will speedily demonstrate. Place a penny on the middle of one of your tables in space. And leaning over it looked down upon it. It will appear a circle. But now drawing back to the edge of the table. Gradually, lower your I, the springing yourself and more into the condition of the inhabitants of flatland. And do you find the penny becoming more and more overall to your view?.

"For governor Abbott he's going to be giving a briefing about I'm not a number of things including some retail opening up by the end of the week more on the opening of Texas a and more mobile testing facilities live coverage now from the state capital here is governor and president or other members of his administration on dealing with a multi layered strategies to try to address the challenges that we're staying in the pricing only gas markets the matter is we have a flood of supply in a dry up demand some of the strategies that the president is is either Donner's working on is for one working to try to forge a compromise between Saudi Arabia Russia and another is the strategy that you're hearing about now that is the possibility of using the strategic reserves as a potential of purchasing entity or inflow for some of the excess supply and then there are ongoing discussions as we meet right now in the White House about strategies that could be later on today or tomorrow I know for a fact the president from his administration they about the only gas sector and its impact on the state of Texas economy Texas jobs sector in Texas but also the bigger picture the bigger picture is that we as a nation have become and that independence matters a whole lot to us as a nation and we need to make sure that the energy independence will be able to remain going forward and that requires the ability to maintain the robust energy only gas production infrastructure that we have in the state another thing that I would like to say about this and in the end that is even though what happened price wise overnight was really unprecedented and what we can do news today would be unprecedented the truth is that over the history of only gas production both indexes angle over there have always been ups and downs in the prices of oil and gas and time after time after time with the big businesses in Texas or elsewhere around the globe we've been but also we've seen time and again in time again the way the taxes in the United States have been able to rebound from those challenges and I have no doubt here again we will be able to rebound from this however in the meantime we as a state we as a nation I want to make sure that we're doing all that we can to try to protect it and either support all of the men and women who are working in the oil and gas sector because I have to pay them with a lively who's to take care of they have families to take care of him so we want to be a part of the solution and helping the oil and gas sector here in the state of Texas second thing that I want to cover is just to give you governor have a life the way numbers are progressing with regard to testing and certain other facts in the Texans and provide you some context for those numbers first the number of Texans who have now been tested for whether or not they have over nineteen exceeds is it actually is two hundred and five thousand plus on to give you some context just one two three four days ago that was at a hundred and sixty nine thousand bottom line is we we continue on this ongoing increase in the number of people who are being tested and as I'll explain here shortly you will be able to see an even more dramatic increase in the number of people in Texas who are being tested those who test positive sorry nineteen thousand nine hundred and forty five as of my last numbers earlier today showing once again that over this length of time that we've been doing testing in the state of Texas the number of people testing positive in relation to those tested main S. or just under ten percent the numbers haven't changed what what you draw from that is the conclusion and and that is our our our testing strategy is effective in doing the primary thing that I must do and that is to give the state and local communities a snapshot about the extent to which a covert nineteen is expanding or contracting in the state of Texas because the those who are testing positive remains at about the same percentage as they have been all along it shows there has been no meaningful outbreak and and is is I will explain shortly so there's actually good news with regard to the R. another number is hospitalizations as of early today the number of hospitalizations confirmed for those related to cover nineteen is one thousand four hundred ninety one here again for all these days that I have on my page right here and to the best of my memory for the past couple of weeks this number has remained relatively the same because the number has fluctuated a plus or minus around well you could say an average of fourteen fifty per day what this means is that even though we have more people who are testing positive every single day we have roughly the same number of people who were hospitalized every day that means mathematically the percentage of people who were hospitalized is growing smaller and smaller in relation to those who were testing positive for cover nineteen that is a good thing one thing that has taxes apart from some of the other states that have faced some of the harshest catastrophic consequences of over nineteen is that we have not come close to needing to use all of the hospital bed capacity that we've seen in some other states maintaining a low level of the number of people who are required to be hospitalized as a result of having over nineteen unfortunately the the fidelity rate the total number does continue to increase increase however the number of new facilities is on the decline for the past few days the total number as of earlier today was five hundred and eleven people who have lost their lives far too many mothers and fathers sons and daughters brothers and sisters had been lost for the good news is because in part of the quality of care because of the way the tax is going about this process the loss of lives in Texas has been minimized to be here fraction of what we've seen in some other states I will also like to point out that we are actually seeing a percentage increase in the growth of the number of people who have recovered from cover nineteen that exceeds the growth rate of those who are testing positive for cover nineteen those who have recovered now or in the east six thousand four hundred and eighty six in the state of Texas and so we continue to see good results of those who had tested positive in the past who now are completely recovered from cover nineteen let me put some context all of this and then these are some important factors as we go forward talking about how Texas is going to be opening up opening up for business opening up for other different types of activities our highest S. date for the number of people who tested positive for cover nineteen was April the nine the only day that we had more than a thousand people test positive for over nineteen in a single day was that day which is is accounted for we are now about twelve days in a row below are all time high in the number of people testing positive for code nineteen mathematically that shows that we have a good friend a lot and it is going flat down to the number of people testing positive for cocaine nineteen our growth rate is now lower in taxes this is the time to go over nineteen began being tracked it is now it is human growth rate of just five percent I mentioned earlier about hospital beds in a hospital bed capacity has remained quite happened as of today there are more than twenty one thousand hospital beds available in the state of Texas that are available for anybody who's worked a contract over nineteen setting anything in addition to that there are two thousand three hundred seventy seven I think you bet that are available and over eight thousand three hundred ventilators that are available bottom line is is that we are very well equipped in the state of Texas to address the health care needs of anybody who might test positive for covert nineteen we also continue to ramp up the amount of the feed is being distributed across the state of Texas making sure that all of the frontline responders have access to it as well as for the doctors and nurses in hospitals who may need it for a non covered nineteen related purposes we're going to have T. V. either they need over just the past week we distributed almost four point eighty million math another four hundred fifty three thousand face shields as well as almost two million gloves and about sixteen thousand gallons another set of numbers another set of numbers to is one of the harshest consequences of what we've dealt with so far other than the loss of life the loss of impact to livelihood in the state of Texas the most recent numbers there is now so many unemployment claims have been filed the information that I have or the unemployment claims that have been filled which is good news so of the number of unemployment claims have been filed we have filled one million five hundred and seventy nine thousand of those animals unemployment claims have now already been filled and more than one point four billion dollars has been paid out for those unemployment claims Texas is paid about eighty percent of the unemployment claims that are currently eligible and the remaining twenty percent will be addressed he quickly because of the increased staff new strategies longer hours a bit now the Texas workforce commission is using to make sure that they are going to be able to very quickly all of the unemployment claims other people found here in the state of Texas for two years for second listen to live coverage governor abit briefing is the latest on covert nineteen live coverage from the state capitol news radio twelve hundred W. O. A. R. possible in response to whatever topic challenge we may be dealing with here the biggest challenge we have is a healthcare response here we're having a lot of people in the state of Texas we want to step up and lend their services to help out in responding to covert nineteen and that includes those who work in hospitals and healthcare facilities we want to make sure those facilities remain adequately staffed in order to respond to any type of covert nineteen spike the specially as we go through the process of opening up taxes for more people to go back to work now that we've not experienced the shortages of healthcare workers yet and five nineteen may continue to impact our state we want to encourage all available medical personnel.

"Abbott. we just were saying at the end of last segment he is stock with this commission quote to do something. so what is now being reported a special session to expedite the death penalty. what all that is let's be honest all that is is man I need to look like I'm doing something. so I'm gonna do something expedite the death penalty yes I assume he's going to follow up by saying in the cases of mass shooting. excuse me. most of the last few mass shooters are dead yeah except the guy from one that's a line on that dude from el Paso there's one Sutherland springs dad to dad el Paso do dad Odessa del Paso guys alive yeah I'll pass allowable down today see that's exactly how he's now realizing all man I put this commission together to give the optics of doing something and we you're not gonna do anything boy what can I do what can I not that. well it whatever whatever that means at least we know now that the guy apparently courted ABC news got the gun person the person where you don't have to have any top a background check say about gun from Jeff their use by gun from Jeff. even Dan Patrick I guess yesterday it said you need to look at this person a person deal he wants to make it okay work say Jeff will leave his guns to all the kids if they're over eighteen or twenty one. but in the person to person we may have to look at the person the person sales in this state. now I want. should look at it they should they should look at it now I know the answer to that is no they won't because the governor just try to come up with whatever diversion he could. expo whatever that even means it's all you know with how how was it even I realize the governor of Texas it is arguably the most important thing you do you go ahead and sign off on. death. I don't know what I think the governor's office can do to quote expert dot heat well they've got all these appeals on appeals in a week every time we execute somebody hunt for the crime was down thirty years ago yeah I I know I mean maybe I think and you know what that's we've taken to expedite it we don't have you don't have all these appeals. but under the rule of law you have the peel and that's gonna do what. you know the next shooter we only have the death penalty here you think that it is time to it I don't know what made it terror a guide to say say the el Paso dude he knows he gives the probably did all this turn himself in and said I am I am be dead for twenty five years. under this proposed if they do have a cat in twenty four and a half now no there he'll be dead within a year make if they act but I will I don't know what's interesting I don't love all over that the governor's office can do anything in that process because your stay is appeal to the Supreme Court there are some legal things that are and all that well I know I know we're quick to Tim to jump up and down say yay for us on the death penalty let me ask everyone do you think we've executed an innocent person in this state. yeah probably have. probably yeah we we've had some issues with convicting people of committing crimes horrific crimes that have not committed the crimes I had a guy on the show who was sentenced to death twice Michael Morton now Anthony gray all your at your baseball friend Anthony gray who was sentenced to die twice I asked to be think we've executed an innocent person he said yes I go why would you say that and he said point play because you tried to kill me twice. he didn't do it well but on the governors I stand on this it's obvious we know that the do del Paso did it. if I if if this is if this is the answer to the commission on mass shootings to solve the problem of mass shootings in Texas. okay I don't I won't solve anything I'd yell Judaism up quicker yeah. the death penalty is not a deterrent to amass shooter the best that we can tell. okay acts okay let me just say this one more thing if there is a special section called. watch out camping ordinance in Austin the guests were lined up it'll get away from this no I think they'll do they'll do that and they'll do the camping deal because you can do that in a special session okay if they declared is not wholly for that the I'll I'll buy that I think it'll be a lot more about Austin and nothing about guns nothing about Jack's improved probably very little about expediting the death penalty the shooters are dead. it's not a deterrent obviously. they're thinking though is it could be a deterrent to the guy my example again the guy from help the el Paso deal. not gonna get Kay I'm not gonna be put to death for years and years and there's his thinking is I need to come up with something so I come up with this. that way I don't have to tackle that other stuff that might be a political risk this is of no political risk there is no political risk there is no political clout in saying we need to look at expedited the death penalty in the case of mass shooters well I think one thing. there is not what I would like no one's arguing that I would like discussion of the extended background checks the red flag laws. ban on assault weapons not gonna happen don't worry about that's not gonna happen okay. the red flag thing didn't happen correct it's not happened no not happen attacks there is no appetite excel to find something that is as non. controversial as possible. I know we should expedite mass shooters we should expedite their deaths and it's faster. oh okay. thanks. okay that's fine is that what the commission was put together really. it's interesting it's energy has not had this topic said about that part person to person sales right he stuck in a corner I don't know what we can do on the person to person sales have you know about right the person to person sales exactly unless you say if you sell a gun person a person and that said gun was used on a felonious act you could go to jail. sure. okay but my defense of me I didn't know yeah I. I think this I think if we're to predict now the path of least resistance will be again almost a no brainer but okay expediting the death sentence in the case of mass shooters. if any of them ever live again we will expedite their death sentence. how's that that that is a non controversial as non committal as non as much of a non issue is in and I disagree I disagree I think it is if they have legislation where the legislatures worry where it I don't have I had a it will be due process is right he will be challenged it I don't know how much to eat it has but there will be we now he's now with his aides his marketing staff has come up with the one thing that they can say a hot seat we're tackling something..

Jeff el Paso Odessa del Paso Texas Sutherland springs ABC Abbott. Dan Patrick twenty five years thirty years
