"UFC two 75, Saturday night from Singapore, it's another stacked card with Glover to chera and Valentina Shevchenko defending their belt plus the much anticipated rematch between Shawn Zhang Wei Li and Joanna yim Jay chuck. The prelims are on ESPN2, ESPN deportes and ESPN+ starting at 8 eastern 5 Pacific fall by the main card on pay per view to order an English and Spanish go to ESPN+ dot com slash PPV and it's never a dull moment in the NFL as chef he does in fact have some breaking news here at NFL live. We'll feel the rams and Aaron Donald have reached agreement on a new deal. This really is old deal that just gives him more money. It gives him basically $60 million in a two year extension. It leaves him under contract for the three years and basically makes him the highest paid non quarterback in history. It's 95 million over the three years of the contract. You compare that to other quarterbacks. It's a big number and essentially that deal is getting done today and it ensures that Aaron Donald now will be back for the ranch. We heard the retirement talk, the speculation about whether or not he would stay or go. Well, he is staying. They've been talking about doing this deal dating back to the combo. I don't think anybody thought the deal wouldn't get done. Now it is officially agreed to and it gives Aaron Donald in additional 60 million dollars during the course of that extension and moves him into a rarefied air that Marcus spears never came close to achieving during the time that he played defensive line in the National Football League. Yeah, so if I understand this all correctly. Yeah, no, it's okay. He just speaking the truth. This is Aaron Donald, man, money. Aaron Donald now has 95 million reasons to not want to retire and walk away from the game of football. I know you caught a stray right there. So hopefully we can get you back on track. But if you could, how much does dead this deal done mean to the rams? I get it. He's the best player in football. Regardless of position. But how important was it for them to get this settled with the, I can't even call it a threat, but at least the idea of him walking away from football somewhere in the background of this franchise. Yeah, chef did we no longer brothers you've been demoted to just an appointment? Until we rebuild this relationship. Here's the thing, man. And Dan and I were all sports in the earlier today and I talked about the impact that Aaron Donald has not only the player that he has, but what you're allowed to do. From a defensive standpoint, when we start talking about rarified air like the greatest of all time and we attribute that to a defensive tackle, a guy that sees more double teams and probably have seen more double teams than anybody currently playing in the league and still have an impact on the game. I want to put this into context for people because when you start talking about him being the highest paid compared to quarterbacks in history, Aaron Donald is the reason why the Los Angeles Rams were able to win a Super Bowl. And I know that Matt Stafford played magnificent. I know how good Cooper Cup was. I understand about Jalen Ramsey and all of the guys that we talk about. But I'm talking about when you turn the tape on and you lock your eyes in on 99, the plays that he's not making as an individual that's not going in this statue, he's affecting that play and helping someone else make it and making that job way easier. He allows your defensive coordinator to get creative and put different guys in different spots with the knowing that he'll cover us. He'll make us right, even if we don't have a bad call. So you don't just pay for obviously this production. You pay for what Aaron Donald allows you to have the ability to do. And he makes you a Super Bowl contender from a defensive tackle spot. And I want everybody to just put that in context. Yeah, I mean, did Aaron Donald deserve this contract is not going to be a topic on first take tomorrow because extremely dumb. It is not up for debate. He is one of the greatest to ever do it one of the most dominant defensive players in my lifetime, but I will say this, you know, it does make life a little bit harder for the rams. Let's be honest. This is a team that is very top heavy in terms of their contracts. And as they a lot more money to those stars, they will lead to lean more on guys on rookie contracts. Players like free safety, Nick Scott, linebacker Ernest Jones who were excellent down the stretch last year need to show up this year, a player like Justin Holland through their counting down off the edge, opposite Leonard Floyd is going to have to be a contributor on his rookie deal as well because that's what happens when you pay well deserving contracts to superstars. Yeah, I also think this was an easy decision. You know, we have talked about the rams in kind of the way that they have handled the draft and for agency and the salary cap and all that. And we know at some point it's getting pushed down the road so far that they're going to be in salary cap HE double Hodgkin hockey sticks at some point. So it made sense for them to be. I mean, I agree with you that it's going to be more dependent or more pressure on those draft picks. I also think less need their general manager has drafted really well in those middle rounds. And I think this is another sign of his confidence in himself and also his player development. I think simply put this means in solidifies that the rams are the team to beat in the NFC and they are right on par with the team to be in the NFL when it comes to them in the Buffalo Bills. They had no shot of getting back to and winning the Super Bowl without Aaron Donald. I think they are now because of this the favorite. Do you know I want to make another point too? Their defensive line culture here again, my boy henny. He talked about Aaron Donald and we talk about what we see on the field, but he also talked about, I'm not going leadership. I'm going to how he impacts how other guys prepare to go about their right. They realize that it's not going they're not going to be Aaron Donald. And one guy that he mentioned to me was Asia and Robinson and y'all remember we talked about him during that playoff run and how he was against the run. That is the impact of Erin. You can be oppressed. But his coach Henry Eric Henderson talked about that, man. To be honest. Hey Shawn got to get paid too. 'cause he'd been balling. To be clear, to remind now the new deal for Aaron Donald pays of $95 million over the next three years. He is going nowhere retirement can wait for another day. In the meantime, the rams get back to work tomorrow with their mandatory medication. NFL lives back. Same time same place tomorrow. How would you love a chance to save some money on car insurance? "These defenses are contributing because we also saw really good defense from the Bengals postseason, you know? And I haven't even watched heading into the playoffs. I haven't even watched enough bagels to fully understand whether I should put respect on the Bengals defense or not. And I've come to realize I should have. But we know the respect that we owed Aaron Donald and the Ramsey fence. And what were you Morris was able to do schematically against Joe burrow and I believe that the media and the broadcast are doing a massive disservice. Like I said, to casual fans and even hardcore fans by not talking more during the game about what players like Aaron Donald are doing to affect every single snap every single down. What Donald does specifically? Because he's such a unique player. It's a yard by yard basis. Hold game for 15 minutes, a quarter from four quarters. It's not boring. He is a physical freak of nature. He is an athlete of the highest level in this league. We should not be having a difficult time talking about what he does and talking about it starting in the broadcast booth starting with collinsworth and Al Michaels started going down to the sidelines going down to the people who are on Twitter covering game. Down to the people who are live reporting it everything. It's all on us to start understanding and talking about this stuff so that because after the game, you know, so many of the more casual fans were like, of course, it's Cooper Cup. And thought I was truly thought I was crazy for suggesting that it be Aaron Donald. But the people who watch football truly maniacal degree who cover it and have been in the trenches talking about these games for years and years. Those people, they agree that it should have been Donald. And so there's a huge gap between the real hardcore football people and the fans and there shouldn't be one. There really shouldn't be one because it's actually not that hard and I know fans would absolutely be able to grasp how important he was to that game. If the people telling them about the game and explaining it to them, we're doing their jobs fully. Football might be over for the season, but basketball is in full steam for both pro and college hoops. Again, we've transitioned so far into only crediting offenses that in a game where the Rand's offense couldn't run the ball. The Bengals couldn't run the ball. They were Stafford through two interceptions. There was so much inefficiency and you gave the wide receiver, the envy. Come on. He had nothing to do with stopping that momentum after Stafford's taking had nothing to do with stopping to a girl from going down the field. And part of me feels like the people who vote for the MVP who decided that it was Cooper Cup. A lot of this is because number one, they don't respect defense as much as they should. They don't respect what Aaron Donald does at the defensive tackle position, which is essentially unmatched by any other player in the history of the league. And they don't respect Joe burrow enough to think that this was actually a free tall task, which is interesting to me because Joe burrow was able to take down the Raiders. The number one seated Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City and he looks like a different player and he was struggling a lot more in this game and I don't know how you don't see why that is. Put some respect on Joe girl's name because he can change a game in a heartbeat. And there was a strong chance he could have done that now. Did Zack Taylor kind of screw them a little bit with deciding to put some aji Ryan in instead of Joe mixing almost third down? Yes, yes, it was dumb. We'll talk about Zach Taylor. But show some respect for what Joe borrow was able to do to basically everybody else he ran up on in this postseason until he ran up on Aaron Donald and then von Miller and what they were doing to throw him out. I mean, do you understand how hard it is to get the ball out in two seconds over and over and over again? We got to do better. Going to do better in the booth. We got to do better on the sidelines. We got to do better on social media. Talking about a player like that because if he does retire, this season, even if he doesn't, even if it's in the next one or two seasons, whatever it may be. He was the best player in that game. He was the best layer in that game statistically, he was the best player in that game, I test wise. I really don't want to take anything away from Cooper. An incredibly special receiver, so fun to watch. But that was Aaron Donald's game. And I'm not and I can not let it go. That stuff coming up. The next thing I want to talk about is Matt Stafford and how we discuss his legacy post this game because it wasn't the best statistical game for Matt Stafford. And he hasn't, you know, it's not like every single post playoff game we've been like, holy crap, look at what he can do, whatever. A huge play is huge moments what he was able to do against the Buccaneers to win that game and that final possession again with Coca-Cola. This is that we know Jared Goff couldn't do. And yes, they made a Super Bowl with Jared Goff. We saw how that went. And we saw how the next seasons went. And there was obviously a cap on what they were going to be able to accomplish with him at quarterback. They raised their sailing dramatically when they brought in Matt Stafford, who has been a statistically dominant quarterback for a long time prolific. Lots of touchdowns, lots of yardage. And also known for game winning drives, which he got another one again last night. No surprise. There should not be any surprise. Matt Stafford does have that sort of door diamond mentality and there is yes a little bit of Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, I'm gonna throw the ball and risky situations potentially throw picks, but I'm also I'm gonna get you. I'm gonna get you at some point. And you better be ready defensively to make me pay for it 'cause if you're not. We're gonna win the game. And that's the kind of quarterback that Matt Stafford is. And I do feel like coming out of the game. There are some people who are, you know, there are some people who were talking about maybe this guy's a Hall of Famer now. And I'm willing to have that conversation absolutely. Look at where he is in the record books and tell him we don't have to have that discussion. You can't go through the record books for quarterbacks right now, not talk about Matt Stafford. Him coming out of Detroit coming to a stacked rams team and winning the Super Bowl on his first year with a new team. Again, very Tom Brady, obviously Tom Brady was going from a basically the opposite situation. The greatest, most prolific dynasty in the history of the NFL. And then goes to his tag team wins a Super Bowl. Obviously we had a staffer and you know he came from the worst team in the NFL really over the course of the history. And does the same thing. So really cool sort of competing narratives on either end of the spectrum..

Bears' Andy Dalton: Looking Over Shoulder at Justin Fields Worst Thing to Do

"It's all anyone has been talking about. Andy dalton the biz. Qb one starting. Sunday night against aaron donald and the ranch yesterday dalton addressed his mindset heading into this season with the rookie justin fields waiting in the wings. That's the worst thing you can do is look over your shoulder and so i think that's understanding that is is key about tuning out the stuff that you don't need to focus on and knowing where you need to put your time and effort and all that kind of stuff. I think that's just where i'm at and you don't worry about all the the all the stuff i wish you all could have heard that as he was talking. Bart scott was laughing aloud. "Every year. Aaron Donald Yeah, that's a hot take because I think at the end of the day, the Rams with the reinvigorated offense, and Sean McVeigh re establishing himself as the the great quarterback mind in the NFL, That's all said with dripping sarcasm. But there is some element of that. That will be true. And as a result, there's even less pressure on that defense. Aaron Donald, I think is going to be the M V P defensive MVP for sure, he's still the most talented offensive player in the league. I do think it's more likely Aaron Donald's. I think that's a hard take. Just not quite ready to see T. J Watt is that disruptive player just yet? And I'm definitely confused about the Von Miller selection. He has not been in peak form for a number of years. And with the health stuff and off and on things were a little strange this offseason and last year, I would like to see him be back to his best, but not so sure about that one. Alright, let's finish quickly with the offensive Rookie of the year if you had to pick one, Mac Jones or Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence. Uh, interestingly, also people saying Jalen Waddle, Nagy, Harris, and a lot of the experts are thinking Zach Wilson is going to have the best year I'm going to go Justin Fields, he's going to get out there. He's gonna start to change the game for everybody watching. It's gonna be amazing. Everyone's gonna be like, Wow. They were so smart to let him sit a game or two. Justin Fields. Patrick mahomes takes the top spot followed by aaron donald aaron rodgers derrick henry travis kelsey to round out the top five josh allen moved up seventy seven spots from last season to land at number ten. Okay you probably have noticed. There was one name. I did not mentioned in the top five because tom brady actually came in at number seven on the lip. Maxine brady have been tire. Yep yep the cliff is saying brady should add tire. I understand if you wanna stick. Aaron donald in there because arrand. Donald is a better defensive. Tackle than brady is a quarterback at this moment. However defensive tackles are so much less important than quarterbacks. It is impossible not to take that into consideration brady but if you wanna put donald ahead of get it. Ready should be third. Maybe fourth on this list.

Pittsburgh Attorney Offers Apology After Client Mistook Aaron Donald for Attacker

"Week on Wednesday of this week, and attorney filed a criminal complaint against rans past Russia. Aaron Donald's allegedly Donald and others assaulted his 26 year old client at an after hours club last weekend. The dude was pretty beaten up. He needed 16 stitches suffered a broken orbital bone that's around your eye, a broken nose, a concussion and a sprain. Or broken arm. But thank goodness for modern technology because a lawyer representing Donald says there is video evidence refuting that claim here is Donald Attorney Casey White. The whole time, Mr Donald Aaron is being restrained. So as this fight or escalation, want call what everyone called continues. Aaron then breaks free from their strengths. And this is all on video. So I'm not making this up. He then goes to the pyre where this melee is taking place. And he starts tearing people off protecting Mr Sprigs. He actually saved Mr Sprigs from further injury. Mr. Sprague should write a thank you card to Aaron Donald for saving him Because that incident or Mr Springs is getting injured. That likely would have kept going for a least a few more seconds. Maybe a couple of minutes, But Aaron Donald saved Mr Springs. NFL nation reporter Lindsay Theory spoke to white about where the process stands. White told me this morning that a Pittsburgh police detective assented email that stated thus far there is no evidence from the video surveillance that shows Donald assaulting the victim Now. White also told me that given the evidence, which includes statements from at least five eye witnesses But he anticipates at the Pittsburgh police and district attorney will not charge Donald. As for Donald current mindset. White told me that Donald's frustrated that this incident took place and how it is since played out in the media, but adds that Donald remains confident his character and is eager to resolve the situation. NFL Playoff Predictions: Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

"We'll start things off in the nfc where the green bay packers playing host to the tampa. Bay buccaneers. You're looking at green bay. Three and a half point favorite at faneuil sportsbook total in this game at fifty one and a half and pain. When i dug into this game i was blown away not by some of the statistics that are there the xs and os but by the simple fact that this'll be aaron rodgers first. Nfc title game. That will at home given everything he's been able to accomplish in his career and greenvale have something pretty strong working in their favor when you consider that since the wild card round began in nineteen seventy eight teams playing their third straight road game or just five and twelve against the spread for thirteen straight up so tampa get have to work against that particular trend but when you have the greatest of all time at the quarterback position. I'm sure a lot of your fears are swayed by all of that when you try and identify some of the matchups here we know these teams that. You're just assuming. Patrick mahomes doesn't get seven. Well a patron hose may seven. But he's not the go he might be the go in waiting. And who knows. Maybe we'll get a ceremonial passing of the baton from tom to patrick in tampa in two short weeks. But we're getting ahead of ourselves there as well when you look at this particular game and i know we go through the offense versus defense but which side of the ball is going to be more fascinating for you to watch tom. Brady against this. Suddenly resurgent packers defense. Who in my opinion really hasn't been tested over the last couple of weeks or aaron rodgers looking to atone for his worst performance of the season against the tampa bay bucks defensive front. I think they're both interesting. Obviously in one thing that we've talked about air this entire postseason is we're getting some good matchups. We're getting some great games. We have to be thrilled with the four teams remaining. And i know browns fans won't like this but we don't have a team that's undeserving or doesn't belong. We don't have a team. That's seven and a half eight win. Team somehow sneaking their way into the final four so to speak here with with an upset win and then taking advantage of an injury to the most important play like we have the four teams. Here that are right up there in the power rankings. You could certainly say the saints or there but you know if if i think we knew exactly what was wrong with drew brees report we might not have the saints as the top five credential. You you mean his wife coming out and saying he played the latter portion of the season with a torn labor. Him didn't have any effect on his lacklustre efforts. Throwing the ball downfield torn torn labor. M- rotator cuff torn plantar fascia and still had. I guess three fractured ribs most healed but right and so i think that was part of the the line move last week now for sure looking at this right in this match while we're getting the great games and i of go back to my initial thought here while we're getting the great matchups for us to watch there's so much variance there so many like holes to attack. That team can do that. Like sometimes you get games whereas like you break them down. Nearly there's nothing really there. These games have a lot here. And whichever one can. It's going to cause this massive variance in the game. I think we even said that last week in the packers we're going to find out who's for real. We think the packers defense is packers. Offense is really good. We think the rams defense is really good. Neither of really played a tough schedule. And i get aaron. Donald was injured last week. But i think we kind of saw. What the rams were when. They went up against an elite offense because they hadn't really faced any elite offense is aside from my guess what you could call a familiar opponent with russell wilson seattle. Who is trending horrifically to end the season. So let's start there right. And i think the obvious element the thing that we'll talk about a lot because it's worth bringing up what you'll probably. Here's you listen to a lot of breakdowns of this game all week and the one thing that can really swing this game. I think is pressure on aaron rodgers. Can the the buccaneers defense make aaron rodgers uncomfortable. And i think it's pretty pretty simple. That's going to be the largest determining factor of this game and if you're going to get a situation where aaron rodgers is strong from clean pocket. The game's over right. It's done with of quarterbacks with at least one hundred and twenty-five dropbacks aaron rodgers number one in the nfl one thirty passer rating from a clean pockets got forty touchdown four picks and clean bach suggested completion percentage when kept clean is eighty five percent. If you don't pressure. Rogers like you're not going into lambeau in january with possible weather and beating him

Rams superstar Aaron Donald upset at end of playoff loss

"The packers thirty two eighteen on saturday and heading into the weekend lindsay. You wrote that you were really excited to see this. Coaching matchup between matlock floor. And sean mcvay. What stood out to you in the battle of the minds here. Yeah i mean because these are two guys who know each other so well and you know. They're very much part of the same coaching tree. They both worked under kyle shanahan about the flora then works Under sean mcvay. So they have very similar offensive philosophies but that was just a game that was full of really interesting. Coaching matchups mallon floor wine. That batch up by far the packers had the better game plan. They were the better team better coach. All of this and sure aaron. Donald was not at full strength. You could tell that. He was very clearly hampered by the rib injury that he suffered during the wild card round but it was just a very impressive performance overall by aaron rodgers and certainly by matt leflore and that entire coaching staff the packers put up four hundred and eighty four yards of total offense against basically the best defense in the league. talked about aaron donald. Who's just a generational talent. Not being at full strength. But how is this packers offense. So effective saturday night. We'll everything they do. Obviously starts with aaron rodgers. Who just seem to have this innate mastery of what was coming and it kind of went viral on twitter a little bit because so many of fox's camera angles shown face on with aaron rodgers where you could see the moment that he realized what was coming that he was able to diagnose the coverage and dictate the play based on what was coming and the offensive line played really well protecting aaron rogers. He was barely touched. I'm not sure if his jersey had a single grass stain on after the game. And you know when you're not getting pressure on a quarterback and you're running the ball really well and you have davante adams who's one of the best wide receivers and football. It really wasn't even a close match up. And you know. I know a lot of people in green bay throughout packers land. Were wondering this is the best defense in football and it has to make you wonder. If that's the way that the packers aaron rodgers played against supposedly the best defense in football. What are they going to do for the rest of the

Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers Preview: Goff To Start At Lambeau Field

"When i look at the rams i trust everything about the rams except the guy is going to have the ball in his hands. More time than anybody else. That jerry golf. He's a turnover. He's an accident waiting to happen and he's playing with a fractured thumb and the cold weather. And so i believe the packers defense although the not great i believe they can a few turtles out of him. Be a fumble or interceptions. Now aaron donald aaron says he feels great. Aaron donald play with a torn cartilage. Not me i had. That injury are in my ribs door to rip cartilage. Yup i tore my my real ended up when came loose my real extra protrudes a little bit now because there's not intact because the cartilage was torn. It was painful now. I don't know if anybody's ever had that skip. But sudden movements and aaron don lizzy sudden guy giving out a tooth gap and guy and even if he was. I mean just that third to feel that you don't realize how much you use your core until injure and then you realize the simple things brush not putting on your clothes brushing your hair. Imagine trying to play. Nfl football tried to move with three hundred pound man against wheel. Now you've got two hundred. Three hundred pounds man tried to move you against your will so it's going to be interesting to see not no. He's going to get the medication in there and and to calm it down in. So he's going to be very interesting. He might hip. Injury might not be as severe as my he might be able to tolerate more pain the not cooler. But that's not a very pleasant injury to play with in given that and everybody looking for the matchup everybody everybody would talk about. You know what they already talked about. Seventeen versus twenty. They will see jalen ramsey devante. Now i'm not sure how much jalen is going to travel now. I'm sure what jalen lineup was. I don't know if you've got to follow him in the slot. I don't know if he's probably left or right. But i've loved to see that. Because i know at some point in time. He's gonna have to come out on the side of with jason's zone and everybody wants to see that matchup.

"It always seems like he can find the bright side always seems like he can find a reason to smile or reason to be optimistic. And considering what they last year of his football career has been like the last year of his life dominated by rehab from a devastating hip injury, And here he is. Thrown into the fire after the Dolphins by week, making his first career NFL start. And while he does have his first career NFL fumble, say hello to Aaron Donald, you also hear his first career touchdown pass on the Dolphins radio network. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS Sports Radio, We will look into his numbers here a little bit more about this rookie quarterback. Who they've thrown out there in place of Ryan Fitzpatrick to figure out if they have Their franchise. Q. B. You may have seen the reports that kind of sprinkling out over the last couple of weeks ever since he got the starting job, despite the fact that they were three and three in Fitzpatrick. Is a guy that really brings a lot of energy and great leadership. The reason they went to to, uh According to reports, it's because they want to know if they need to go back to the draft. And start looking at quarterbacks or to a can be the man moving forward and considering the number of times the Dolphins have been hit or miss on quarterback since, say, I don't know. Dan Marino retired. They want to make sure they've got the right guy. And so yes, there right in the mix in the A, F C and now are above 502nd place in the East Division ahead of the New England Patriots. When was the last time we said that? But they want to know if to Ah can be the face of their franchise or because they've got some high draft picks Houston being one of those right they had Houston's draft pick in 2020 and Houston's terrible Right now sitting on one win, and so it could be a really high draft pick. So they want to know is to Ah going to be the solution at quarterback, or do we need to keep looking? It's

"They have an interesting game this week. Between two NFC contenders that I think most of us can't make up our minds about bears and Rams. Rams Obviously have Aaron Donald had very good some weeks this year and others somewhat confounding bears, of course, are somewhat surprising. Five and one defense heavy. We'll talk about a Giants Eagles tonight kicks off the NFL weekend. It's a terrible game, except it's very meaningful. Talk about the Cowboys to Brown's a whole lot else. I will explain the inexplicable moment that I had on television this morning. And then there's something I just want you to know that happened today that made me feel a little melancholy. So all of that the table is set for what you can expect in the next 20 minutes. It begins with my friend Louis Riddick, who joins me on the shell Pennzoil Performance line. Hello again, Lewis. Really What's up, my man? Well, it's a pleasure as always, and I want to start with your game this week. I always enjoyed when we had Jon Gruden on the old show. I always love talking him in the middle of the week about the game they were doing because I know you follow literally everything that happens in the NFL. But when you're doing a game I know you're diving deep into the tape. So let's start with the bare side of it. As you look at their offense, I think we all think they play Championship caliber offense. But the big question among those who don't believe in them is can they get their? Did I say offense? Excuse me, obviously defect. Excuse me. Obviously, That's what I meant. I know what you meant. They play Championship caliber defense. The people who don't believe in them, which I think includes a lot of their fans will say their their offense just doesn't look good enough from what you've seen from their offense. What do you think they can do to get themselves to a place where it can be complimentary enough to where they could be a team to make a deep run this year? Yeah, they work. What they can do is that they can They think they can protect the football. They could not turn it over. They can. Hit the shots, Greenie better there it in that, and by that, I mean the big plays in the passing game. And that's going to require Nick Foles play at a very consistent Consistently high level both mentally. And physically, and by that I mean bottom line is a weak point on this team. Running the football is just not something they're able to do. They're just not. They're not able to capture the line of scrimmage and move people off line of scrimmage the way that ideally mad Maggie wants to do. From a pass protection standpoint. Nick has taken some big hits against the good teams against the teams. We could really bust the past. Like Indianapolis like Tampa. They want chancellor they lost against ending the forest. They're terrorized Bulls Justin Houston terrorized. So I'm a medal for that He's going to make sure they get themselves in the right protection. Where He can protect himself reasonably and then have the courage to stand in there and not flinch when he knows he's going to get hit. And get the ball down the field. They have people that can get down the field now. Gallon. Robinson is a good wide receiver looking from going out. I mean, Mooney is a legit speeds. A guy who in that number 11 jersey, looks like a John Jackson. And they've had their shots open down the field, and Nick has either missed him because one he doesn't want to stand in there because he didn't hit two. He throws an errant pass because he's getting hit for three. You just get sex. So they can strike you with big plays, but they can't run the football. I don't know how that improves, so they're gonna have to play a very smart, cerebral type of game That's going to start with a quarter back because you're right. They had championship caliber beef bacon. Shut down anybody. They got hell raisers on all three levels that d line linebacker and in the secondary, and I think you'll see that on Monday night. They're going to give you got it. I'm going to give him tending make enough plays in the passing game. In order to score enough points or they can win. That's the question. And there's Monday, they will get the Rams another team. That's been a little bit difficult to figure out at the start of this season. What does the tape show? What are you seeing? Yeah, inconsistency again, particularly on the offensive side. Where when the run game is going Passing game flows naturally off of it, because nobody is able to call different types of play action better than Sean McDaid. Nobody him and him and Kyle Shanahan on another level when it comes to that. The run game has to get going. And then Jared Golf has to be accurate and had to be consistent with his passing because it's usually they're there to be had because showing one of the best teams in the NFL But it's whether or not from week to week they can call on the performance that they need. Defensively. They've improved dramatically with brand new corn. It is a rising star in the NFL. Bacon, heat up the pastor as well as anyone because you know 99 is an absolute terror. And Aaron Donald in the back, and they've got a corner that can shut down your number one guy and take him out of the game. For the most part, Jalen Man, It's the consistency by by which they play total team defense. A total team offense when the Rams are hidden as good as anything medicine. They'll be right there for challenging for that title and challenging immunity, But when they're not They're not gonna be that if I had an answer for you as for why and why they can't call in that performance every week. I think I did. I wouldn't be working. You gonna be working with John McBain and I'd be on the staff helping him out. That's what they're trying to figure out. And they're looking forward to playing this week because it held the challenge of their offense. They kind of got punched in the gut by San Francisco last week, our Sunday football and they need to respond. And then on the bare side, the bears they're tired of hearing people say that they're not good. They're not a 51 team. So they're motivated to. So I think that makes for a pretty intriguing matchup should be fun. Louis Riddick and greedy with you on ESPN radio. It's amore intriguing matchup than the one that we have tonight, which I don't know what to make of you have the Eagle's who are one foreign one and just banged up beyond anyone's imagination. Urges hurt now and Sanders and it just never ends. And the Giants, who, when you watch them most, for the most part, looks like they're as bad as any team in the NFL. And yet they're literally one game out of first place in that NFC East. So these air such unusual circumstances, How would you imagine those teams are handling that in that division, like what Conversations are taking place put Dallas in a different category..

"But Brandon's family defense and the way he's calling it, he's very smart. However, you want to try to pick up Aaron Donald or send the protection towards them, the sooner or the tackle blocking down or they're trying to run the back to chip on him. He's gathering information, and then he makes you pay. So I think versus the Niners. If they're smart, they're going to try to double Aaron. I think you'll see a lot of five men rushed to keep guys honest force that one on one with Aaron and then away you go. You saw what he can do when he's single block. Hey, scared, Just like you said. He's you move him all over the line, and my my fear is they'll just find the weak spot which there's been a couple, but I would imagine that he probably doesn't want to go against Trent Williams. Even the Williams hasn't been great. The guy like Daniel Brunskill inside. I would think that they'll they'll just kind of move him to whatever matchup they like, right? Well, that's funny. I mean, say that loud and next thing you know, Aaron upon certain Williams and that's that's just the way he is. I mean, they're all weak points to him, so it's just Whoever gives him the best opportunity. Line up so wherever he is, you're gonna have to adjust to him because he's always a threat to get to your quarterback. But, yeah, I think Brandon's daily outside of Aaron Donald. I think he's done a great job with Jalen Ramsey. I think maybe in Jacksonville, you saw hat off. What do you condone Because it gets left him at one corner spot. Now he's playing in the slot. He's playing in the in the box. They're blitzing them off the edge. He's a complete football player back there. So you couple that with instant pressure, and Aaron Donald Plus the guy that can cover receivers to tight ends the same way you got yourself a dangerous defense of your brand in Salem. Yeah, one of the things that I'm most intrigued about going into every 40 Niner game a sour the opponent's going to deal with George Kittel. And last week, Miami had a guy Eric Road number 21 that did a pretty good job. A man matching him. Oh, and Jalen Ramsey likes to mirror guys, and it's not always wide receivers. We saw Evan Ingram on the giant game. He shot a fellow him around. Do you think Brandon Staley will have Jalen Ramsey Mere George Kettle on Sunday night? Absolutely. I think that was the reason you have this kind of star position. That's what they call it with Jalen Ramsey, the star position. He just kind of moves around. You'd have to think it was because of George Kettle and what they Two in San Francisco. Can you can't cover him with a linebacker. You can't cover him with just any old safety, But Jalen Ramsey is for Mars. When you look at him, his body type is different. He's got long arms. He's bigger than what you think. And he's ultra aggressive and he wants Cover the best player, regardless of position. So the first thing I thought when we saw him moving around lining up in different spots, they're getting him ready for San Francisco and George Kettle. I know we're not going to see it this time. But how great is the new stadium so far? Oh, man, It's unbelievable. It's a brand new pair of Jordans out of the box. It's the Ferrari, you know as their backing out of the truck and leave it in. It's just absolutely gorgeous. It's built sky high. So when the fans when we finally do get fans back in there, they're gonna be right on top of it. And that's that stadium that that that that scoreboard That video board is out of this world. It's really, really incredible what they've done. It looks great. It's huge. You can get lost in there. From what I hear. It's five times the size of Disneyland, and that place is huge. So It's a really nice place to play football, and this is the cool thing. That's the thing. I like it even better at night because the roof is covered, But they've got panels they can remove, but you can see through it so When it starts to go evening, then too dark and the lights. Come on, man. It's it's made for, like night games on Monday night, Sunday night Football. Yeah, I'm just hoping when the 40 Niners go there November, the 29th will be able to get in there and do the game from there because we're doing all the games from Levi's ru Ru N. J B gonna be traveling and Maurice, are you doing all your games from so far and not traveling at all? We're doing the game's actually from ESPN Studios in L A right across the street from the Staples Center. So it's been really cool a little bit weird, but you know, we do the best we can. Thank God, we're working in a situation like this. Yeah, that's that's the biggest thing to market. It's always great to catch up, either. Man. We'll talk again soon and have a great call Sunday. You got it, man. Right now. There you go. Marco far so he wanted to come home and do the games from our studios. And go home and see his mom and dad. Yeah, they could do that's so bad. The studios are nice. I've been down there. It's pretty plush. Good. Those are nice videos, so they're probably that's not too bad Shadow KNBR Studios. No, no, of course not. I don't remember. They look like they have no idea, but Ah, yeah, they're they're plush. They're flush. In fact, they built those studios. Down there, obviously by the Staples Center, and they do SportsCenter all that stuff from their SportsCenter lay but right before, like, downturn happened, And they everyone was like, how did you get these bills? And they're amazing. Yeah, the major difference we could have done the games from can be our studios. But then we would not get the all 22 ft. Right. I was specific. It had to be in our booth. So the trade off is there in that, you know, student they've got a huge monitor to watch the game, but they're just watching it off TV. They're not getting anything extra. Tim and I at least get the all 22 so we can see. Are they going forward here and four down? Where's the plunder? They coming out? You know different packages in the sub back as you can see, so That's the trade off. If you're going to do it in the studio and be on site, even your home stadium when the change not there, you're not gonna get to gold 22. Alright, great addition of the afore play at the top of the hour. The highlight Fred Dean passed away at the age of 68 today, but the pro Football Hall of Fame did about a two minute tribute to him. Bills rally to beat Rams 35-32 after blowing 25-point lead

"The bills. Blew a twenty five point lead on Sunday and lived to tell the tale. The bills happily received the gift of questionable Pi call on fourth down. Then won the game on a Josh Allen to Tyler. Crop Hook up with fifteen seconds to play final score thirty, five, thirty, two. Wow Greg the rams came this close to a comeback for the ages. Only let victory slip away. They left too much time on the clock. When you come back from twenty three, you got a time that final touchdown just to go to overtime and then win the coin flip, which is probably the only way. The Rams Defense was GONNA get a stop in a big moment here because Josh Allen. Did. It all in this game in terms of the rollercoaster, the the whole experience they had nine possession and they and they scored five touchdowns. So I don't want to hear anything about the bills offense being in any way let down now he helped set up the comeback with a couple of turnovers, one of which came on a very questionable call, but was also a terrible throw by Alan. So yeah, he was at some fall Aaron Donald took over the game as Donald Does but my big takeaway is that the bills are an offensive team you WANNA get on part of their team. For blowing the lead, get on the defense I I look at them more as a team. That's GonNa make mistakes offensively as we saw here and there but that had to third and twenty three situations with the game on the line and they wound up converting the both they got one into a four, thousand nine. They got that questionable call as you mentioned Dan and and if they didn't get it, we'd be talking about how they blew this game but I still. As. A global view. Take a look at this bills team in think this offense is really dangerous and Alan's going to have some ups and downs but the conversion that they've had into an offense that can score over thirty regularly is massive and they are gonna be a tough team to beat when that's the case One thing stuck out to me was the uproar over the the controversial call at the end of the game and to be honest I caught a lot of this game. The only reason the rams were in the game was because of a bad call in their favour in which there was a simultaneous possession interception, which was clearly caught by the offensive player, and then once they hit the ground was wrestled out of his hands by the defensive player was a horrible call and they tried to defend it afterwards, our river on did and. It didn't make any sense when he tried to defend it either terrible throw though two and they gave up four touchdowns in four possessions very quickly. I think it's giving the rams a little too little credit's saying that's the only reason. It was definitely a turning point but it was a bad decision by Alan and more more to the point the rams offense started cooking. In the third and fourth quarters I hated that call. It's funny. We just started this show talking about how referees are keeping the flags in their pockets that to me at the end of the game there and I I know L. River on got behind his boy there. But that seemed very ticky tack with the game on the line to call that. But you know at that happens ultimately I think if you're the rams. Yeah. You're smarting from that call but also there are two third in forever's that they had right the bill. And all you gotTa do is make stop and that was you know that was to opportunities they had and they and they let it go by the boards and that is a credit to Allen I didn't get a chance to see this game. So I can't really say too much about it other than. His ability to just move this team up and down the field for three straight weeks, he is passed for three hundred yards. In, three straight weeks and they are averaging I believe four hundred and thirty yards. Total yards per game and thirty one points per game through three weeks, which is obviously franchise records across the board. There's something special happening with his offer.

The Running Back's Struggle

ESPN Daily

09:54 min | 2 years ago

The Running Back's Struggle

"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should

Jalen Ramsey's troubled Jaguars tenure ends with blockbuster trade to Rams

"Terms of Jalen Ramsey will talk about this he finally got what he wanted the end result the disgruntled corner headed to the Los Angeles Rams the Jaguars finally relented and Ramsey to the west coast for first round draft picks two of the one in twenty twenty one in two thousand twenty one also a fourth rounder in the two thousand twenty one draft here's a statement for Jaguars executive VP. Tom Coughlin given the situation with Jalen we made this decision based on what we thought is in the best interest of the Jacksonville Jaguars for this season and well into the future we feel the trade that we struck with the rams gives us great value for the next two drafts and remain confident that our team today will compete this season for a division title Jalen Wasser Productive Flair but the time came to move on and we wish him and his family the best in Los A- Angela here's head coach Doug marrone obviously I had a good relationship with him and we were working together to get them healthy on the field and that that's what my focus was so he can get on the field and help us you know win football games and now you know how concentrating on on the players gotta here and and getting our guys focused on on on Cincinnati I think in his league nothing ever really surprises me anymore you know especially from the business side of things I found out like everybody else did last night you know lately point Dave came in and told me Rams reporter Lindsey theory joins us from L. A. and Lindsey listen there's been a lot of coming and going and all Ryder roster changes what's the general reaction to all of the news from the rams this week Wendy for a team that's three and three and in the mid of a three game losing streak certainly renewed buzz and energy at the team facility this morning now I am told the Jalen Ramsey is in route to Los Angeles and he's expected here later this afternoon or the rams do expect that he will pass his physical and I am told that he could be on the field for them as soon as Sunday against the Falcons now this would be viewed as a move where the rams are going all in once again to try to make a repeat super bowl run but I am told the Rams really believe that this is a move for their long-term future keep to leave and Marcus Peters or playing the season on expiring contracts Ramsey has another season left and the rams do intend to sign him to a long term engine now as you mentioned he's not the only new face here at the facility today Kenny Young Austin Corbett also were here they have passed their physicals though remains to be seen if they will be at practice later this afternoon and one more note Wendy Safety John Johnson is headed to injured reserve because of shoulder injury. Lindsey thank you it was a rare blockbuster trade a few weeks now before the trading deadline Ramsey joined a small handful of veteran players traded for multiple first round picks in the last third two years or so Khalil Mack and Jay Cutler garnered big offers from the bears the dolphins move two first rounders for Ricky Williams and it too big halls to get Herschel Walker an Eric Dickerson listen we can go back to the jags but since June Ramsey is moving onto the rams let's start with what he means for the La Rams Right now we'll Wade Phillips now gets a play defense the way he wants to Wakefield's really wants to play in your face on the line of scrimmage with the defensive line pressure and then in your face on the live with men cover corners. He hasn't been able to do that to be honest with you with Marcus Peters Marcus Peters is not not played good man to man coverage needs a better zone corner so now wade having Jalen gets the opportunity to get back to Colin defense the way he wants to do it I'll be really interested to see if they use Jalen the way we want I bill belichick thrill reverse where you put him on the team's best number two receiver and then everybody else gets to get double teams opposing for the opposing offense but it makes their defense significantly best Champ Bailey the dion sanders I mean the great quarters you can do that lock him up and then roll the other side I think you'll see that the other thing that was curious for me was that Tom Coughlin mentioned that Jaguars were better this year and going forward I think maybe either that was miss written or because they're not speak they're not better by getting a great player out of there so I miss quotes tim so expe- Joe Joe Listen you were you were spot on Jalen Ramsey never changed his stance which is what you asserted from the get-go and I would assume just finally came to a point where it just made no sense to have him on a roster when he wasn't going to win this transaction happened yesterday the first thing came to my mind is how often the people I was always talking to that this was going to work out for Jalen Ramsey like there was no fretting I didn't hear any fear and now that this is resolved itself in the way that it has it kind of plays into the tone that I've been hearing all along now I was talking to a source obviously familiar with Jalen Ramsey. They said that he's excited considering this a fresh start to be with the rams I think one of the questions that I had in talking to ram source last night was why not hold onto Marcus Peters to have opposite Jalen Ramsey in terms of making this movie now one thing that the ram source said to me is that it looked like it was clear that less need did not want to pay marcus. Peters beyond this year he's eligible unrestrained the free agency next year and it was better just to rip off quote unquote the band-aid now so then it becomes well who is opposite Jalen Ramsey for this game against the Atlanta Falcons they mentioned that two thousand seventeen when cal Roby Coleman I came to the teen that he did fill in for a keep to Leon outside first and second down and then on Nichols would have him excuse me on third down having a nickel or sometimes have troy hill on the outside and then have an RC in the middle so expect something like that or combination of that against the Falcons either way Julio Jones saw the rams problems in the short turn no because the opposite of the ball is atrocious right now and that's been there issue as far as being a front now what I will say is it does play into them getting better though like we can focus on golfing what this offense has been doing but with the guy like Jalen Ramsey not only does he hell Aaron Donald give him a maybe a half a second more to get to the quarterback he also may be able to steal a possession to for you and this ninety four was out there so air down gets another piece on the back end that can help him hold off quarterbacks for a second for him to get there and that's that's really all I can think about so maybe you

Jalen Ramsey trade grades: Rams complete cornerback overhaul

"The rams have made a nother monster trade and this time they've traded for the best player available on the trade market Jalen Ramsey generally considered the best cover corner in the NFL extremely unhappy in Jacksonville it has been asking for a trade for weeks yeah is on his way to the ramps it is being reported by multiple sources now including Adam Schefter that the rams are acquiring jalen Ramsey for two first round picks a first round pick in twenty twenty a first round pick in twenty twenty one and a fourth round pick in twenty twenty one three total draft picks including two number ones all right king of the Ramle what he is saying I I'm so as soon as I traded Marcus Peters I thought are you initially said wait a minute keep Ta- Leib Injured Reserve yesterday Marsha I have no corner they have no corners could this be Jalen Ramsey and you're right yes it is Jalen Ramsey this is what I love about less need and Kevin often the ramps are constantly pushing their chips to the middle of the table you know three and three did not look good after that loss to San Francisco major upgrade to the defense ager upgraded the defense and by the way they also added a pretty good linebacker and Kenny foster and they added an offensive Lineman in Austin corporate earlier today for the Cleveland browns they are they are trying to accumulate Talat to turn this around at one correction you said Kenny foster it's Kenny Young's thirty on Kenny went to Ucla and was great at Ucla she was What's interesting now is what do I always pound on the table with the doctor bus pounded into me star driven town Yes star driven town star driven town no matter what you say star Driven Town Yep the rams now have five different players who are the top paid player at their position Jared Goff Yup uncooked. Yup Todd Gurley Aaron Donald and we assume jalen Ramsey we assume this trade is being made with the idea that Ramsey will sign a long term. term gas contract because if not it's all it's a lot to give up that is a lot every time the rams have wanted to sign somebody to a long term deal they've gotten because remember Marcus Peters on his fifth year option and there was plenty of speculation that the rams were not going to extend him now they've got a younger more accomplished cornerback in Jalen Ramsey who I think there's a much higher comfort level in signing for the long term and by the way he's going to be fun to talk to fun to cover he's a fascinating guy he's not afraid of a great quote and he also happens to be arguably the best cover corner in the NFL well and you have a guy like this it basically takes away half the field yes you just have to defend the other half 'cause you know Jalen Ramsey can guard the elite wide receivers that put him on an island silent or Dion island that's this guy and he's not even twenty five years old

"The reason why they didn't beat the eagles. There wasn't a number one player to eagles were a total team run as individuals put together, and you have Aaron Donald they took away tyreek hill. Okay. Not in the AFC championship game. So I'm catch for forty two yards. So there's chess player on the field. They took him away. Okay. So I think he's very capable of devising a game. Plan with Dante scar. Nikki maybe the best offensive line. Coach all time in the NFL of double teaming Aaron Donald and neutralizing him to the point where he is not in. Tom Brady's face all game long. The second thing is that the way you neutralize a pass rush from the inside out as you run the ball on the fringes you run the ball on the outside with James white with Sony. Michelle you run the ball with Devlin you run the ball with Rex Burkhead. You make sure that Aaron Donald is doing this Oaten. Okay. You know, gone outside. The study started talking about reducing Aaron Donald Joey Bosa what they did to Joey both in the divisional playoff game when NFL films caught him on the sideline talk this during the game. Tom Brady's awesome. He's awesome. Say what you would you hold on which they stopped getting rid of the ball so quickly. This is what Joey Bosa was saying. Well, that's the other thing is he gets rid of the ball and two point five seconds or less than most cases. Okay. Fastest in the history of the national football. I'm not saying that Aaron Donald is not going to be a factor in the game. I think they had the capability of neutralizing. You can't beat as the Chicago Bears found out against the Philadelphia Eagles. You can't beat a team which just one defensive player. And I think that's the key thing..

"He if he's not touched in this game patriots continue the dynasty they win. So well set, so what do you think wins that battle in the trenches? How do you think plays out? I feel like Aaron Donald and Democrats who are going to have a big game. Like, what are you gonna do? It's almost pick your poison statistically. And didn't have a big year. But he's more of a destructive ops guys around him dominate Aaron Donald is a bee's. You slide protection to them you leave Sioux single coverage. He's going to expose you. If you want to dedicate multiple guys assume because he's been great, MS postseason, Aaron Donald coverage. I'm taking a ten times out of ten I'm taking Aaron Donald on a double team eight times out of ten I've seen them triple team this year. So for me that place where Tom Brady loves to step up in the pocket. Tom Brady isn't going to back up roll out and take off with his list. Tom Brady is the the great of the subtle movement stepping up and climbing up into that middle space that middle space that right? There is real estate at air Donal dumb because dominate if they don't and the patriots win. Maybe it's just me. But when you can get it out and about one second flat every single time. You don't need to roll out and use your legs. That's true don't work anyway. But you don't get you you'll need to he's never been a threat to run. But still one of the greatest passes we ever he really quickly with such good analysis. But what about Aaron Donald? I mean how. That's is being that dominant. Never mind. How do you explain any guy being that dominant right now? But a guy that size being that dominant. It's crazy because he's not that tall. No. I saw another day. And I swear that I was a little bit taller, and I'm six foot and some change and what's saw a picture of him with his shirt off. It all made sense. I don't spend too much time looking at guys with his shirt off. But I remember seeing a picture him in the locker flex, and I'm like damn is dues cut. He's built like a house. That's exactly what it is one of those guys from the world strongest man competitions needs to be Magnusson ver Magnusson per Magnusson. But for me, that's why he's doing forties refrigerators on their back. But for me, it's that is the ability to use his feet at the line of scrimmage. He can move like a wide receiver. I guarantee he's going to move where he puts two feet in the ground. And then he shoves a hand some ice chests, and then he swims over the top that's one of his favorite moves. He'll do that move. Catch you off balance the next time off Lima. He's on his heels when you're on your heels, they'll take these two aunts and pinch pressure into the lap of the quarterback. Once you fall for that one. Like, all right. I got to steady myself because that bitch back. That's what he's. He has the variety of Russia's that. I don't think we see often he might be the best in the game. So for people that look at them being in the interior getting twenty and a half six that's different. But when he gets on that that rhythm rotating his variety of mixing getting to the quarterback is Russia's. Nobody's stopping last. Interesting. Not just a matter of Brady getting into his rhythm. If Donald gets into his rhythm. Yeah. You don't disrupt him that's dangerous, but thirty seconds day. And I really appreciate you. Did you did you not say on good morning football? Did Donald's going to score a touchdown in this game? I did I said that what's going to be trending is a DTD Aaron Donald for a touchdown. He picked up a fumble this year, and he looked so damn fast of golly, they gotta.

But Aaron Donald cannot he can't do the thing that he is being dared to do because we've seen Aaron Donald do things the people that he's actually trying to move around. And it doesn't go well for those human this Aaron Donald Nino a lawsuit when he see right? I do know just do it harder. No. Thank you. I know how this ends. And it ends in costing me other than of money. Now. This is really just an excuse guys. We put up that click clip Aaron Donald do with knives. I give a damn about this. Danish. Reporter this is Erin dollar work. And I was somebody who got knives. Yes. Those are not I thought this was fake when this happened. I repeat this is not fake. This is a rear drill that Aaron Donald does. Yeah. At it involves knives. I wanna know like. Aside from trying to get a lawsuit crack what was that man's endgame? Aaron Donald slap me hard as you can. I'd like to use my hands. I think he was trying to make our television show. Yeah. All right, grabs coming up next find our Brandon Ingram did last night. It was a lot. It is kinda funny to consider that to remain super grown man decision. Which was a girl man decision that we're now saying actually outta won't be grown noble. Yeah. I love the guy. Really do appreciate him. But his brain does not make any sense. Today's number. Thirty six. That's how much Brandon Ingram scored and the Lakers lost to the Sixers last night shooting sixteen of twenty from the field. Maybe the most depressing moment of the night was this dunk over Corey brewer gory, bro. Absolutely getting through the Sixers. He ran down the court just brillo GAM doll. Oh, dear. I can't spend a lot of looked like he got Baratz. That'd be. But this inquiry brewer is a man who was Brandon Ingram bet on the Lakers, both they had a relationship or ROY split a Laker. She absolutely did does this make you though, this is Mickey think Ingram's more attractive to New Orleans. Maybe they're poorly enough run organization that one game is suddenly going to make them be like you guys heard about this Ingram, dude. I mean, they say he went to know isn't going to be what makes him more track. I think people have made whatever decision they made about whether or not they think he can be an all star or a star star. Or they think he's just going to be a very good player. There's one game isn't going to do it one game, by the way where they got smote. They did get smoked by sixteen. I believe in Brandon Ingram is having a good month. He's having a not bad season. He's seventeen five and three. He's only twenty one years old, but you talked about where is he on the great Dacians of stardom and Brandon Ingraham's big problem. And the reason why despite his frame he is not quite Kevin Durant. Esque is because he doesn't shoot threes. And for all of these points, thirty six last night book zero attempted three pointers, and that's the big piece if you're the Bill he Kevin Durant like skinny don't make Kevin Durant. The fact agree gave us the fact that he doesn't shoot threes would makes him not. Kevin durant? Some not Kevin Durant is they've made basically one of those right? Like, the idea was that after Kevin Durant. Eighty tall skinny guy, really go. This guy might be Kevin Durant or he might be tall skinny guy. That's all maybe that's what this was. Speaking of things getting smoked. Let's watch. Go Jimmy Butler that chicken scholar? Scot Pollard scoring going to take a free throw. "We'll be some play action pass off of it. So you know, what you know? Don't get. It's okay. From a gift for a lot to stop here. No, no, Oh, no, no. no. It's not. So I'm just saying I'm flexible enough when one thing I have right now is I know I'm going to have a run run blitz. If I'm wait. I had a rumblings. I'm gonna break some safeties up there. Mark, barron. Played very well. And they've played the run very very well the dominant sue Aaron Donald these two guys inside of played as well as anybody in the postseason Aaron Donald is let's say he's a disruptive football player. So I'm a softer run. In the thing. I want to do is take away. And I thought that they did a very good job last week taken away. Michael Thomas, if you watch it they took as you're not going to be with Thomas. So they're going to do that a key to lead getting him back is you, and I think he's gonna take them away. And they got continue to play runaway. They played around last week against the saints. G you run at great players. Yeah. You do. So I'm going to run right at Donald ensue. I'm going to know where you are. Exactly. Well, you can't run out and vote I would run Aaron Donald I would make sure I have two guys that are very much in sync because he will split a double team and don't try to get them from backfield. He's too ethnic. Clinic. And so I think he's a very disruptive guy. So I cannot let him get into the backfield and be disruptive. He's also can be disruptive in the passing game. So you know, that's one thing that Aaron Tom Brady will be aware of where is Aaron. Okay. If I had an open draft no quarterbacks. You got first pick. Right now, Donald okay. I think I think he's the most disruptive player defensive player there is. And I say that for this reason because I think of the game has become a very quick throwing game. We used to talk about edge rushers before. But I think the inside rusher is quickest bought to a quarterback. And this guy is the most disruptive guy football. Well, the edge rusher. It is strange as it's going to sound can't get there quick enough. Whereas if you have somebody who can go because I think if you beat the patriots, I gotta have strong guys up the middle ravens. Did this the giants when they beat Bella check. And Brady, I gotta have that. I gotta start there. And if I start there, I feel pretty good because it's gonna make my secondary. Look a whole lot better. Right. What do you think? Oh, absolutely. I mean, I think Aaron Donald coming up and try to get him into a one on one match up. You know, we go back to what they used to do with Reggie White. You put five guys across the board. And you put Reggie White. I on the center what's a quick distance between two straight line means Joe Greene to used to line up, right? Senator I'm telling you Alan page of. Guys are the most disruptive people in that. He's a three down player. And I think you know to me that's the guy final question for coach last time. You were in a fight last time. I was in a fight yet. Oh, man. I was playing I was a player. I fought all the time when I played well. Why are you? So angry. Because that's that's how I played. Did you play I played angry? I did I played. I was different player when I stepped on the field. I had to I wasn't very big. And I wasn't very fast. But that was going to out will you and so I had to get manager. I make it personal. I made a personal issue. "But I mean Brady's just not gonna let you stand there and hit him the ball's coming out and drew Brees caught you, you know, setting up about four or five times in the first half of that game. So expect that out of professor break, you watch Aaron Donald and he so strong, and he's able to just take two guys throw them out of the way. But you talk about how quickly the ball is going to come out when New England does what they do. But I more at Aaron Donald for variety. But the speed all of a sudden that ball snapped. And he's swim. And he's in the backfield. It's not that they can't play the touch him half the time if you're a quarterback or an offensive coordinator or anybody that runs an offense. And you're not changing your snap count. Then you're stupid because he's going to be in. He's going to be on to you within two or three plays your cadence. And then he's going to get a jump on you. It's hard to stop them when he's step late imagine if he's ahead of you. So you're going to have to play games with your snap was one of the things that we would do when. I played. We would change the snap out so much in the course of the game. We would change it. We would go from two three sometimes four some quick count. We just switch it up so much that the defense alignment really couldn't gauge when that would happen. They would cause you I don't know if you could tell well, I don't know how much film you broke it down. But you know, you could sit there and watch the field, and I'll know not even hearing the sound when the snap count really takes place. Right. 'cause you know, you get million familiarize yourself with watching feel. Okay. I'll see they're going on to write here. They're going on three right here. Well, that's why do Orleans was getting such a good jump. And they could bring those blitzes because it was so loud. You couldn't communicate. You can't change the snap count. And they were just having guys running out the snap because they knew it was going to be on I one. So what changed what change between the beginning of the season, Mark? I remember vividly you, and I are sitting there and key you were out there to Irvine. We're sitting there, and we're having a conversation about what is this going to look like this? What is the ram defense gonna? Like, you add to lead, you add Peter's, they didn't Dante Fowler wasn't a part of the conversation at this point. But the other big port was sue. And remember you and I talking about it tomorrow that how do you block Donald sue and Brocker they're just those three guys that are at the top of their game. How do you block all three of these guys in? Let's be honest for a big part of the season. They were able to do it not Donald. But the other two guys really didn't have the impact. At least the the expected in the half intil the beginning of the playoffs. And now sudden indomitable suit looks like Dhamma consume really the last month since they went to resign ah things started to turn around San Francisco. They started to ramp up when they played Dallas different defense up front. But yeah, I mean, we can call him shack. Sue now, he played it. Exactly. Right. You get in consumer into the postseason. And then you unleash he had a whole new level. I think he had a whole new level the entire season. I think he waited for the perfect back pocket at the turn on. Well. I mean, he played pretty good defense. He was still good better than eighty percent of the league. At at the level. He was playing at. But once he starts to turn it on. Now, you've got to now you've got two guys that refused to be blocked by even two guys. So that's two doubles in the middle that should open everybody up. That's why Kamara gets bottle up in in New Orleans. Same thing has but he also in from past and point he started chipping. He started chipping Kamata Maher coming leaking out at backfill he'd give him a shove here because early on Kamara was obviously eating them up on to to check down throwing the ball out there..

"They gotta stop you. Go back Minnesota late in the fourth quarter. Minnesota's driving tied that game. Or go ahead. Aaron Donald gets a couple of sacks wins the game. Basically you go back to the Kansas City game football fifty four to fifty one. It felt like there was no defensive. He played is Samson. He becomes scored two touchdowns. Aaron Donald got to Patrick Mahomes and flush him out and sacked him. A handful of times there was a bunch of interceptions in that game. They played defense when they had to get stops. Now, it's not even that they're getting stopped constantly go back to NFC championship game. They leave eight points on the board. Those first two drives. Both of those drives should have been touchdowns. There was a drop by the saints. There's a bad throat by breeze. And then they were able to to pull them inside the twenty hold on the field goals six points instead of fourteen they won that game. Then there's the Johnny. Hey, and then everything happened after that if they give up twenty one points right there that games over the rep. And that's the reason why. The poor people in New Orleans with their billboards up in their petitions, and they got the governor who's overseeing one of the poorest states in the country taking time out of his day. Right. Roger Goodell ladder like all that. Yeah. I get it. It wasn't egregious called. That was missed, but the reality is that you get out played for the entire game and had to call him made that would build you out for basically being shut down for three quarters because of that defense. That's what really happened. That is the true story of what happened on Sunday when it comes to that game. It's it's a really interesting one because. I I mean, I don't know how long we've been doing this. A handful of months already have you ever heard me really complain about referees? No, no. I it's not my deal. I don't I don't I'm Pires it. It's part of it. The most of them are not great. They make a bunch of mistakes. It's it almost always balances out. So I don't complain about referees. This is a tough one. Because I keep an eye agree with everything you said we've talked about it yesterday that the saints had an opportunity to stop the Rams the next possession. They didn't they won the coin toss. They threw an interception. They still didn't get a stop. They had plenty of chances to win that game. The problem with this one was that if that calls made correctly, and it was an easy call to make the game's over. Yeah. It's not. But it leaves the Rams with a small handful of seconds. Maybe ten or fifteen seconds games over what you would think. That's why it's hard the game is over. And the reason why I said you think the game is over is because the greatest female tennis player of all time was up five one other set serving at forty thirty and. And that. The reason why you think the game is over is. Because the Atlanta Falcons was absolutely destroying the New England Patriots. And then the next, you know, the patriots has confetti falling on their faces and overtime. So just because just because the scenario says if this happens, then this obviously is what's going to happen Seattle. Throws interception. The goal line. And all of a sudden now. Whoops. What was supposed to be easy is an easy. Yes, rush. You know? What else ain't easy? How? Little boy. He's daddy. That's right. We're the show. So we make it easy because we're giving away passes to the Genesis open all week you can walk side by side with the great target. I go would. That's right. That's right. Here's how you can win. Call eight seven seven seven ten.

"Right. Static waiting to take it on. Yes. That's one of the things I want. Now, I want to do that in a variety of ways. He so up field. Can we put in a trap game? Can we put in a whim game? Can we get him up the field invite him the field because he so explosive and then have tight end scramble as. Raines. Right. That's what I wanna be able to do. So I wanna be blue affect him as much as possible in the running game running at him and giving them a variety of look. So at least I hope that he slows down a little bit. He's going. Okay. Where am I going to get hit from this? Are they gonna win from the outside a my outside more run outside play. So tied-in comes across the formation this way hits me in in my in my ear hole on my right side. And then all of a sudden the next one we're gonna come this way. We're gonna hit him on my ear hole on the left side. Like where are they coming from can can I slow down? So then all of a sudden, I get a five step drop with two hitches. Can I slow him down enough to where we can actually block him? That's the question. And when you're an offense of game plan team, you attack guys like that you tack them in the running game in hopes that that slows them down in pass rush in Aaron Donald and the where he is benefited. And we're the Rams have helped him out enormously is trading for Fowler, acquiring sue. So if they are. If the patriots entire game plan is to stop him. You can have other guys making impact we were talking before the show the most notable instance of defensive line really affecting the pants in the Super Bowl or in the playoffs. I should say was the giants in seven and that NASCAR pack dry. And that was because even if even if the patriots one of the game saying, we're not gonna let straight hand kill us. OC was common. Kiewit Nuku was coming. They and other people Justin tuck was coming. And so even if the patriots to a brilliant job of JJ watt Aaron Donald far slowing him down. Okay. So that's when the Rams off season comes into play and their midseason with Dante Fowler comes into play. All right. Take a break. Another easel speaking. Interesting..

"And yes, some veteran guys that could be coming off the book soon, I feel like the arguments of the Rams is going to show at some point which McBain is offense that we don't need the high caliber defensive player. We're just gonna outscore people is similar to what I'm not Denver. But drew Brees the saints did. But remember they were defensive team. I then drew come over. They became to the offensive team. We're gonna outscore you I can see the Rams going defensively at some point of coral Aaron Donald, and then you have an coach more she holds did some of that too. They chose offense over defense when Peyton Manning was there in a lot of cases, you know. But yeah, I do think it's interesting because and we'll get to it on the other side about what the saints owner said, you know, and by the way, the saints owner is not happy clearly about all this that went down. There is a nuclear option here that. Not enough people are talking about and Mike sent it to me our producer, Mike Pearson. Senate to me this morning. It was in pro football talk. I know what you're talking about. Yeah. There is a nuclear option here by that. I know he's talking about that Koussa send the entire football world sports world, Utah scrape. Like, some sort of myspace nebula like we've never we will never have seen the takes that we will hear if this nuclear option happens. We'll tell you what that is in just a second. But first guys it's four thirty seven. What's the game plan with your kids tonight when you get home? Well, here's an idea. Do what we did. We did it with our two kids. We're continuing to do it with the newborn Matteo talking reading singing, it changes everything. How did we do that? We went to I five California dot com to learn more. Those verse five years, though, the formative years man, those brains man, they get going quick right out of the womb. How sometimes even in the womb? My little guy spore months old. He can follow along he knows voices. Now, he knows music. My four year old we read to her every single night, we play music for every single time. We're in the car. She knows the song that's running why. Because we got those brains stimulated at an early age and parenting is hard enough as it is. So what did we do? We needed help. We went to I five California dot com to learn more, and you can do the same talking reading singing, it changes everything. Go to I five California dot com..

"At least in my opinion, it has nothing to do with the whole jacket gate with hell. Yeah. Major Applewhite that NFL teams don't care about that. I personally thought that was more on major Applewhite that it was on that Oliver. But you know, that's for each team to figure out to me. It's it's twofold, one is two hundred seventy three pounds. That's what what NFL scouts have gotten on him. And you know, the Aaron Donald comparison because they're under Sizewell Aaron Donald was to ninety and it's continued to bulk up and without losing any quickness. Can he do that it remains to be seen? But why hasn't he been been able to get even in the two eighties to this point? The second thing is I went back and studied Aaron Donald tape from his last year, Pittsburgh, just to just to kind of wipe away the comparison, they're both highly disruptive versus the run the differences. Don. Donald is a finisher as a pass rusher. He he knew how to get off of blocks. He was lightning-quick with his hands was a technician, and he just some guys just have instincts and know how to be slippery as a pass rusher. And that's what he he always has been and you don't see that same production from from at all over. And I think he's a little bit more like a great, Jerry, you know, that type of player where he's going to be really disruptive versus Ron he'll be disruptive as a pass rusher. But he's never gonna be or at least to this point. He's never been that, you know, double digit sack guy doesn't appear that he's going to be that kind of guy in the NFL either. And you got Clinton Williams and some other defensive tackles that have have emerged this year. And you've got so many defensive linemen, and we're now talking about two quarterbacks potentially going in the top thirteen which wasn't necessarily the case when we started this process. So a lot of things have changed since the start of this the if since August, let's put it that way. Melcan you Todd mention a couple of them from Bama, but you know. We actually have we've gone away from a few years ago. We were talking about you're never gonna see running backs taking around one anymore. When we were looking at drafts were geo Bernard was the first guy the board at like forty five. Well, Zeke happens for net happened saquon happened at number two overall, you can still question whether saquon should have been taken versus say, you know, Sam darnold at number three based on where that team is with their quarterback situation. But obviously when you take a running back early, you know, you're going to get the productivity, but I don't see single one on your first round board. Here anybody with the potential to crash the party and follow up question. Mr. Kuyper who else is in the mix outside of the Bama crew. I think Devon single Terry at Florida Atlantic with away. He ran you think about Bryce love not healthy had in the injury late. That's why he's at six to Errol Henderson at Memphis. Todd kidding lost the ball. He's actually. He was fun to watch very entertaining. David Montgomery, just gets the tough yards. He earns his real estate. He doesn't have the big flashy runs. But he's an interesting guy to put in there and then Jacobs. They had said all along he's our most explosive back, and he turned out to be put him in a wildcat. He's he runs with that little chip on his shoulder. And Josh Jacobs really emerged, and I put them right there with Harris. I'm I'm not I'm not convinced Harris gogo before Jacobs could go before Damian Harris style. I agree. I agree. Check out these numbers guys Darrow Henderson. I don't care if it's a Memphis when you do this. When everybody knows you're going to get the ball eight point nine yards per carry in each of the last two years this year he had twenty two touchdowns. He actually caught the ball sixty three times when everybody knows you're going to get the ball. And you got eight point nine you're doing something. Right. Keep an eye on that guy. Todd this year, you know, George kill you Iowa has a couple big pass catchers, depending on how you want to categorize them with obviously with. And Hawkins thin. But I keep hearing and seeing with my uneducated own is that this tight end class looks pretty legit. You know, again as we talk about teams spreading it out..
