"With lou. Bob we have a short in two thousand twenty season and a bunch of injuries like that been his whole career basically even dating back time minor leaguer like he's just been either hurt or excellent and i think that some of the time that bigly arms haven't had to adjust the him is going to end up being meaningful if i'm sorting through the finger leaderboard and looking at the guys who have like a high swing percentage which they they swing a lot of the time when the pitches out of his own. I have to adjust my my thing for non pitchers And my plate appearances because again. This guy's like been hurt so much in one. Soto no no surprise. There is the hitter who swings the least pitches out of his own at just miniscule fifteen percent which is frigging incredible. And then if i look at the very top of the continuum again. You're not going to be surprised at any of the guys who are here. Jose iglesias jose siri williams. Ask do deal. No surprise hanser alberto album. Mora salvador perez is all the way up there and has had a hell of a career a despite being very aggressive hitter. Here you know among the top twenty of them with a minimum of twenty plate appearances among non pitchers. Here's the least robert his co. swing percentage case. When he's got a pitch that's coming in it's not in zone. He swings forty five percent of the time. That's all lots. So i do think that you know. Miguel andrew harr is another great example of he came up. He was unbelievable for a short time. And then the big league pitchers made an adjustment to him and he hasn't been able to crack regular playing time since then and now he doesn't do the other stuff at like sao pariahs and lou. Bob do which is play up the middle position at an elite level brandi relatively position list. So the guys like barbara always going to have utility. But i do think there's going to be some sort of statistical regression because you can't just live in this area with like brinson and al farro and francisco me. Here's another example of this. We're like yeah. This guy is unbelievably talented. But he's also kind of scary. His approaches is terrifying. And i do think at some point. Bigly pitchers are going to start to solve it in a way that makes a meaningful difference on his level of performance. Skit thinking about how you know. Who else was a was. A high energy guy was crane. having him he got his head cut off. Do or did you just you know decamp to a wealthy widows home and live out the rest of his life and luxury. I feel like the cartoon version of ibadan crane. I guess it does try to stay true to his physical description in the source material but he strikes me like he's a ladies' man like oh. Yeah he trace but he doesn't look that way you guys like told you though like being tall is more important than you would like. It's it's significant variable. It would seem. Yeah this is a thing that i have made out of several times. I just i do think it is useful for us when we are evaluating men and whether we find the manson which is wildly subjective thing and people like all sorts of different stuff. So there's certainly no one answer to this. But i do think it's just useful for you. If you are a person who is attracted to men to ask. Is he handsome or is he just tall because sometimes they're just tall some blow than they're looking down at you from the instagram selfie angle. Just know that the tall guy senior from your best angle. All the time and i think i think that's part of it. I don't know big social media warped our brains ivory you've stayed use did pure. I don't mean to give lewis. Robert short-shrift i just had to contemplate crandall a little bit more. Yeah it will be interesting to see. This is probably not to say that things have been easy for him prior to now. But you know with with guys like this you do have Of two modes right they as you noted either been been hurt or been excellent seeing them with an extended look at at playoff-caliber. Pitching is always an interesting test. I guess if i were or white sox fan i would be encouraged. Sort of how. His strikeout rate has trended over the course of the season. He's really turned it on since coming back from injury. But i just can't wait to see the good all the good hitters against all the good pitchers bonetti. If you're listening. Louise robert hits the ball off the wall. A wall lou. Bob bob bamboo bob bob bamboo. We're going to have to offer free. Bonetti yeah ran out to send that along to to friend of the pod who you can do little richard woo. Yeah which i won't do. Yeah that's probably. I wanna do it do it so i know that you have made predictions on both of these series as part of the staff predictions. Did you have new york beating boston over two on the wildcard game. Okay so so then. Making you re project is is somewhat fair. Because one of these series you couldn't have predicted who do you have in tampa versus versus the boston. And we'll stick to my guns. And i pick the raise okay and who. I picked a raise because i want them to win. Sorry guys but i just want you know the raise. I just the white when the teams that have at one win so i'm going to pick them and refer them i do as i'm sitting here looking at the fact of the race. Bullpen does not have the king era of weapons back there anymore like it is kinda precarious looking at it but also like map barnes utterly dominant for most of the year is in on the roster here either. So it's not like boston is is operating at full capacities. Their starters like looks down rodriguez and sale all the yeah. That's when razor made of five guys like it's right so i am worried about. But i'm still picking the raiders and then in the other one all stick to my guns with the white sox like. I just think that is absolutely ridiculous. That's mecca gita. Where you know. Aaron bummer is the red thing i in its chest that shoots lasers or whatever okay and so i'll take off the white sox. All the way is just about is corbin burns. Godzilla defeat mac address. Which is what happens in the in. The god's little move you with how does but like micro godzilla ends up losing right right. So mecca gi draw kinky dies in like one of his heads severed somehow and then the alien people i forget rain alien. Plots and godzilla. Take the head of the defeated mecca godzilla and attach it to the decapitated middle head of can you. And that's what creates mecca. Jeeter right right to the white sox. Bullpen that's fair that that compass on the tip of my tongue too. But i am glad you beat me to date list through high school. I tell myself because. I'm five eleven. Yeah this is just a. It's just about the it's about being what it's about. That's not not on the apps. It's the first question that you know most women asses. Are you over six foot right right. Shallow we really need to the asher. We really need to do. Another run of the date. Lewis t shirts. I think we need to do another one of those were interesting about fall league in just a second for a little bit here. We're clearly not previewing. The nfl diaz series because We need to let poor dylan take a break from editing at some point but because those will probably be previewed with another guest co host. You have any quick thoughts on on that. You would like to share here for posterity teams. The brewers there rotation can throw down with anybody. Williams brings a competitive intensity that that team did not have eduardo. Escobar to like. I really think that i said on the radio i did. Cincinnati radio with with our friend danny salmon Like before the trade deadline. And i was like. Yeah you know. I think the reds are the team that are gonna push chips in and like make meaningful moves at the deadline..

"Before we get to will bind. I believe we have some White Sox changes to announce. So the White Sox of Place left handed pitcher Aaron Bummer on the 10 Day injured list, retroactive to June 28th two yesterday with a strained right hamstring, another another hamstring. Evan Marshall is also going on the 10 Day injured list with a strained right flex er. They have recalled Jace Fry, and how about this? They have reinstated Michael Co pack from the 10 Day injured list. Wow, so he's going to be no rehab. The two simulated games was good enough. We'll get more from Tony LaRussa here in a little bit as to whether or not he's going To a rehab starter. If he's just he's back. I mean, if he's reinstated, he's back. All right. And so we also are expecting Josh Donaldson to speak after what he did yesterday, saying no more sticky stuff. After home a ring off a Giolito Giolito called him enough in past So once we get that we will play that It's time for Michael Wilbon, usually at five o'clock. "Wait. A couple of callers who couldn't hang on. They wanted to talk and they were quite upset that they comes. Moved Yu Darvish before the season. And me. Being a White Sox fan can only imagine how come fans felt when they did that. Because it does feel Brian when you give up a guy that was so good last year. Four. Like you said, a bunch of young players. That's a wife flying trade before the season that straight before it starts and you look at it. One guy was going to say that Darvish isn't that big of Darvish is five and one this year with 1 75 year, eh? That's pretty good. Yeah, it's not bad. Last year eight and three with a 2.1. So Darvish has figured it out after this first year, his first couple years with the Cubs didn't pitch all that much. The first year eight Nate when he came over and 18 that in 19 6 and eight with the 3 98, which still is an awful file. We know we if you watched it It didn't look like yourself 400 A. He was looked a little worse than that. But the last two years combined these 13 and four so he's doing. He's pitching. Well, the Padres having really good team. All right. E was sawing, Eric. Um One of the wagers on, um The service. I I used that rivers because they were the first one here in Chicago. So plus they had you put into 50 will match it to 50 size. I'm on fanduel and and MGM and okay, you could you could join six others and get All sorts of matches and bonus. So it makes it its tell us how valuable each customer is. Because if you do it unless you're listening to the ads, couple because I'm telling you, I'm not even kidding here. If you're listening to their place, and this is not easy to do. Carmen, Mike, Mike and Carm. I mean, they put a lot of thought. And I know Mike has some systems, everything else. They don't just throw stuff out there and hope it sticks their record right now. I mean, for the last two months is unbelievable. Yeah, they've been really good. Um, last night. I bet it was top teeth more than 1.5. RB eyes. It was plus 3 25. And he said, Okay, that sounds good. Earlier in the week, I had the same thing. It was a run scored and a stolen base. 18 50. Put $5. I think with 47 bucks. He had that like early last night. The game goes into the 10th inning. OK and Machado's at second base. The Padres are winning 3 to 2 in the 10th because they just going to run. And up comes Fernando Tattoos. What do they do? They walk him, so I went to bed. I go. Okay. It's 3 to 1. The 10th. Nothing else is gonna happen. What happened was the it was tied up, then the bottom of the inning. The Padres come up in the 11th and scored seven runs and top he says a sac fly. So I get a second. FBI while I was sleeping, so you're making money while you're saying that's the way it's supposed to be, isn't it? Yeah, you go to sleep, figuring it's a lost cause you wake up and you won 30 bucks or whatever, because there have been many times where you're sitting there and sweating out, especially, you know what's still the adage Life's too short to bet the under I don't need support. Yeah. So you're sitting there, you know some garbage three in a basketball game. Or, you know, there should be dribbling it out. And if Tony LaRussa was your coaching basketball you you would have to travel it up some dope decides. Well, I'm guy got the lane. I might as well just go ahead and get an easy basket just because And there goes your under by by one point or whatever. Yeah, so you can stay. You can stay up on beat yourself up and sweat it out or you go to sleep, and whatever happens, happens, You don't have to be watching right And that's that's what you could do what you're like. Like the biggest bet I made. I think, since I've put the money in, there's a $20 bet. I never make more than that. That's $5.10 dollars $20 the most. So let's live in the home runs yesterday since I was picking three or four put $3 at each because if they hit him You're going to get 30 bucks because of the way the odds were so real quickly before we get too bad on the phone. Let's go to the poll questions that we put up here. Adi s ad Twitter at ESPN 1000 most underrated White Sox pitcher for to choose from Aaron Bummer. Dylan sees Garret Crows Shane or Jose Ruiz and the most underrated Cubs pitcher. Some of these guys, you know, one of them. You may have recognized their name before the season. Rex brothers, Justin Steal Ryan to Pere or Dan Winkler. Those of the pictures for the Cubs for the white sacks. You can vote out that at on Twitter at ESPN 1000 Let's go to the South Side and Ben Ben what's happening today? Hey, Good morning, guys. How you guys doing doing great. So my question is or my statement some of quest somewhat question. If you know I'm on the Sox fan 100% true and true, the jerseys being my uncle, We're trying to figure out where we combine from yesterday. But anyway, that to the side, I think they're just steps, right? I think you're getting this June 5th. They're available. Pretty sure it's the first week in June. Yeah, I think so. Week. Why they I think you've done by him now. I don't know We're working on it. But anyway, I'm sure your explorer will let us know before we're out of here. On B. So I would I feel self somewhat bad for the Cubs fans because they're kind of like in between right now. If you had Lester and Darvish, and then you add the area to spend a little bit of money. You didn't know what this year is gonna be. So you're playing devil's advocate. If we had these guys will be way better. We be contending, But at this point right now, you don't really have a World Series team. So if I was Cubs fan I'll be like, Get rid of, or trade. Um Um, right, Brian and then the pitch. I s, uh not by is I would keep by us because of trade. The two guys, um, the two guys to rebuild you and you could be contender for year. I would love this contender for years. I would love to see a unhealthy Erie's I'm in my life. Oh, yeah. Unfortunately, I would love to see in Chicago. A beat on fire way more than the bulls in there. Six championships in the Bears and 85. I got to see all that. So I was just like one in like what? What do you guys really think of? What should that comes to worry about this year or worry about forever? Well advantage. It seems like we appreciate the call. It seems like they're worrying about the future. But you know it's difficult for Jed Hoyer. You know, you mentioned that, he said. We could be buyers and we get to the trade deadline and it's.

"Didn't think it'd be a walk but he did come through. Here's clint frazier. You'll look up yankees nine games over five hundred. Six game winning streak. All good really in the season and a lot of people were panicking but we weren't And and there's a reason why in this series and the last. I don't know how many one a row of example of what this team is capable. Yeah these sweeping away. Sixty aaron bummer. Sounds a guy was going to end up on the mets at some point. Tough name really kicker named blewett. You're right that's exactly right. Jamison tile and five innings to hit ball though he didn't factor in the decision or all. This chapman the win after blowing. The save and think i one andrew von the pinch hit home. Run in the ninth. But the us went in the bottom half as for the mets really lost weekend miami. They won friday but saturday and sunday terribly. Loss to the marlins five to one jazz chisholm. And he's who's aguilar with. Rbi single cody petite seven inning chas. Judaism retired final fourteen batters in rpi infield single. And i did see jordan. Yamamoto with a big tweet. This morning basically His wife was getting attacked on social media for his sucking basically. Yeah and he put out there leave her alone. Come after me not her. Just be better. Family members just need to stay off of social media. Don't worry about it. You know your your loved one can handle or they wouldn't have gotten to where they've gotten to without pretty much what he said earlier. Yeah exactly right but the problem is she put herself out there but she put her not in not in that type of way the things she put herself out there insulating him right understand but prior to his start. It was like am surprising jordan. Let's go mets. I'm going to be star but you and then people found sucked so but you know what's going to happen you just know it's going to happen..

"ESPN. 1000 I'm Conner. McKnight. 3123323776. I'm just gonna give the phone memory because we'll have some time in the last 15 minutes of the show to take a whole bunch of phone calls if you like. Um right now, though. A chance to talk to White Sox play by play, man. Len KASPER on White Sox Weekly morning, Landon. How are you? Connor. Good morning. Great to talk to you. Congratulations. I'm so excited for you and for us, and for White Sox fans everywhere. And I cannot wait to Ah. Get on the air in a white Sox broadcast. Hopefully in about what? Six weeks from now? Yeah, it's coming up quickly. And I thank you. I appreciate it. I am overjoyed to be part of the broadcast and obviously cover What is going to be a very, very fun ball club. We've been talking a lot, Len this morning. The first half hour of the show was basically dedicated. To the White Sox signing of the best closer working in Liam Hendriks. I wanna know your first thoughts about this bullpen and the weapons that Tony LaRussa is gonna have available to him. Now that Hendrix is there. And maybe the first couple of things you want to know you can't want to get into about some of these pictures and their their individual repertoires. Yeah, it's it's really exciting. Thea Mount of Velocity the I think variety in terms of repertoire. Um, Aaron bummer obviously strikes out a lot of people. But it is a terrific ground ball pitcher. I know he's looking forward to having a fully healthy season this year. Hendricks is a really fascinating cat. I know you've already talked. About his career and his is situation four times. Designated for assignment and really has kind of remade himself as the best closer in baseball on by think it speaks to Kind of the modern game, right Starting pitcher he could, he said. I tried to be a little too fine. I tried to nit pick and then you know as a reliever. It's just let it let it all out. On every pitch, and I think that has led a little bit to the pace of game issue. The more time between pitches guys are able to recover and throw a little harder. Esso When someone goes from 92 to 97, there's this. Okay. How did that happen? But you know, with all of the touch a tronic cameras and mechanics now, I mean, you can just sit there and play around with all kinds of different things and look at the velocity and look at your delivery and look at grips and Figure out a way to add a couple of MPH on the fastball, and he's just a supremely confident guy, so that that that's going to be fascinating to get to know him on. Yeah, I like this bullpen a lot. I'm curious how Tony LaRussa his thoughts about bullpen usage. May have developed changed. Maybe not at all. I mean, he was way ahead of the game 30 years ago, but being out of the out of that seat now for nine years Kind of watching how teams have utilized their relievers. You know, my guess is Connor that he's still of the mind set that If he'd like his starting pitching, too. Generally get him through at least six innings and in the top Three guys on the list for sure should be able to do that. If Dylan cease conducive that, and, um you know that I don't think they're done necessarily in terms of identifying starting candidates because you're probably going to need to have eight or nine when it's all said and done to navigate through 162 games scheduled, But yes, I'm most fascinated. I'm kind of digging in on the manager and how he plans on utilizing all of his weapons in the bullpen. Len KASPER play by play Man for the Chicago White Sox. Here on ESPN 1000. This is White Sox weekly. Len, I'm with you. I'm a big advocate of I guess the unconventional bullpen is almost become conventional. Now it's It's almost like, you know, saying you're in the shift. When really people are in the shift a lot now is we kind of have to change the semantic some, but I like the idea of throwing Liam Hendriks against Ah, pocket of tough hitters in the seventh. I like the idea of being able to Hand the final three outs of a ball game to Aaron Bummer to Garrick Rochet to Evan Marshall. If the matchup suggests that that's the best play, and Hendrix had to face a much tougher situation earlier in the game. I think the linchpin there might just be the health of bummer and crow Shea in 2021. I think we're probably, you know, 67 like you said, 67 weeks away from really finding out Just how Versatile and volatile. That whole situation could be. Yeah, no, no doubt. And, um, you know, Marshall obviously isn't another guy who is really intriguing just because he doesn't do it. A lot of the other guys. Uh, do you know he is kind of a jump ball, All right. He's the changeup is becoming a real important piece, And I think you need to have guys like him. In a bullpen with a lot of velocity. I gotta tell you, Connor might. My gut without asking Tony is is that Liam Hendriks is basically your ninth inning guy, and I think his job will be to get at least the final three outs. And based on his usage and his mindset. I think it's more likely he'll do the Goose Gossage bit where Maybe Tony, but with three days rest brings him in to start the eighth and he gets the final six outs. I'm not sure Hendricks will be used. In a pocket and then removed. I think once he's in the game he's gonna finish and when you haven't established closer like him, I think it allows you to be maybe more traditional than And you know, you have to be In some cases. It's by design, but I think in a lot of situations around the game, I think managers will utilize their quote unquote closer earlier in the game, because because it's not a necessarily an established guy. I think Liam Hendricks was brought in here to be more of the traditional closer and and I would expect. If we do play 1 62. You know, maybe 90 innings, you know, maybe maybe 80 90 innings most closers. Now, as you know, we're kind of in the 65 70 inning range. I would expect Hendricks toe At least try to push 100 innings, even though that that's probably pushing it a little too far. Yeah, I mean, Liam mentioned as much in his his introductory press conference and, you know, intimated the same. With water and Sylvie yesterday on their show Friday afternoon. I wonder, you know when you're not unfamiliar with with some of the bigger, younger, more talented names here, obviously having been on the other side and having Been a part of that organization as a lawyer. Jimenez was also there as Dylan cease were also there. I wonder if you can just for nostalgia's sake. If anything, take us back to how those two were talked about, as they As they matured and what you see now, having broadcast a good number of their games is that two teams play each other quite often. Obviously. First talk on our way not allowed to say the name of the team we could. You know, we can't. This is there's a big There's a big sign up in the out. We can't. Actually no, of course we can. Yeah, I remember seeing a Loy in spring training and being incredibly impressed with just the raw skills. Um I liked his arm in the outfield, too, And I know there's been a lot of talk about how much he has struggled. In the outfield, but I know it's important to him to be good at it. And, you know, I think his goal will probably be I wanna be the guy who we It doesn't get removed late in the game for defense, and but the bad plays we know that he loves playing against the Cubs has hit some huge home runs against them. I like that deal for both teams, and even though in the Cubs case You could claim it didn't work out in that they didn't kind of get to the promised land with Jose Quintana. In in 2017. I would claim that if they don't make that trade You know, maybe they don't quite get there because the Brewers were in on Jose. And if they get him, you know, maybe the brewers leapfrogged the Cubs. They're so you know, the idea is to kind of get there. And, um, you know, he had a disappointing tenure overall. But I would say, Ah, it was the right move for the cubs to make at that time is they were trying to kind of extend their window. Um ceases a guy I didn't see a whole lot of I had just been told that he was the one guy. He was the one starting pitcher they had developed that they felt was going to be in the big leagues and was going to be ah, big part of it moving forward, I think You know, both guys were tough to lose..

"Okay, I'm gonna try to, uh Try to control my anger here a little bit. You're my friend and I should say anger, my frustrations. Avoided this boil over last night when it was happening in Cleveland. I think White Sox fans, for the most part are pretty angry. You know, the White Sox were kind of limping to the finish, right? Um, hopefully they can flip the switch teams teams are I think they play each other, so someone's gonna look halfway healthy. Yeah, right. Right. Something's gonna go, too. And one some time ago, wanted to probably you know what? By the way, the White Sox hit their overview. Bet the White Sox over you headed cubs were sitting at Cubs need to win the series to hit the over, boy, and it looked like a lock a week ago, didn't it? You were playing Pittsburgh playing Pittsburgh Pittsburgh for we'll get to that part will get to the North side. But I think White Sox fans are pretty angry, and I was definitely frustrated last night and you know Gergo says only one time. Can he really remember his group where Coach put them in a bad spot? Right? Used to always tell me that you remember the scenario in the coach. Apologize. 1993 plane to Miami Dolphins. You put us in the defence work. We're going to lose. Every time we were in that defense. I went back and we watched the game again. It was a Milwaukee County stadium. And so you're go says in Waddle and the guys who played all the time. You know, even if you played it a reasonably high level what you really want out of your coach. Is for them to not put you in positions to fail, right? You know you are a coach Kinda has to that. This is the hard part of being a coach being a manager. It's not just access a nose or what the book says. You know, it's Putting everything that you know everything together that you know about the game. All your experiences. And then you combine that with all the data and you start to think You've gotta process it quickly. It's a hard job. That's why they get paid. Well, you've got to process all this. Let me think about putting my players In the best position to succeed. And there is just no way anybody Can say. That calling on Carlos Roden in the seventh inning with the bases loaded yesterday. To get out of that jam with white socks for protecting a 31 lead. That Ricky Renteria put him in the best position to succeed. There's just no way I can't sit here and say I can't say to you today. Well, a manager has to be able to trust his players to get out. I can't say that to you here today. Carlos Rodin is for the most part of career starter called Carlos Rodin has appeared in a game out of the bullpen in like six years. Right? Maybe since his rookie year 2015 was the last time you started. He's a starter. Who's had the man's a starter who's had nothing but injuries unfortunate last couple years and hasn't pitched in weeks. And you summon him in high leverage situation against a team that has had its way with you on the road with the bases loaded. There's just no way that is putting your guys in the best position to succeed. Why did he not go to Eren? Bummer there. You pitched Darren Bummer. An inning later. That's a job much more suited for Aaron Bomber. Now, if you say Well, what wearing whatever interest I don't even know I don't try. I do. I do know. In theory, he was saying them for full any Aaron Bummer wanted that He pitched the next inning and then he said, Put it on me. He pitched in everything I said, Put it on me. I was saving bummer for a full inning. Does that make sense? Aaron Bummer hadn't pitched in forever. If you're saving him for a full inning because you want to work him back slowly. Why is it different with Carlos for down? Why are you not putting your player or your team in the best position to succeed? Is Carlos for Don your best left handed hitter there and I get wanting to flip Cesar Hernandez around like that makes sense. Fine. Cordero gets a minute jam you want left because you've got back to back switch hitter is coming up and you want to flip Cesar Hernandez around because the numbers are better from the left side of the plate. Fine. That's your best option. A guy that's not a reliever. A guy that hasn't pitched in months. I don't understand it. The decisions that have been made by Ricky Renteria in the last week are Head scratching and frustrating, and he was not putting his team in the best position to succeed. At least he owned it afterwards. Like your ghost story says, OK, put that one on me. If you hear some of that commonness magical. Yeah, I doom Jerry. If Nick magical We're like an inch taller. He makes the catch. He might not be talking about this. Here's rectory on why he brought rode on and we're gonna find out with two outs. It was gonna be a opportunity for him Do working out. "To day Dylan ceases given up. It's just like seven earned runs total. Now York in his last five starts, Don't see Cinzia Rovers Last five is down there. 2 15. He's turning into the picture that White Sox fans had hoped that the White Sox had hoped he would be. I think some of the swing and missed, um, stuff will still come as he commands the zone better. His stuff is electric. I mean, he has no problem. He didn't late in the game at 100 pitches, hitting 98 99. The slider when it's good eyes absolutely fantastic with that sharp bite. I was a little surprised yesterday that he was left into face Kyle Schwarber. Maybe in a perfect world. When Aaron bummer is healthy, That's the matchup. You go to right away. Ross that Wyler's been awfully good this year and awfully tough on lefties if that's a playoff game. Does. Dylan sees really staying for that moment or I could count on my own argument a little bit, or at least play devil's advocate and say, Maybe Ricky Renteria was smart yesterday just to see what his young pitcher did in that sixth inning. He had a he had a rough fifth, Let's face it. Get rough if inning. And you might think third time through. Why bother? In a one run game. Why not turn it over your bullpen? Maybe the manager actually said, Let's see what he does in the sixth inning. Trust him for a change. And maybe no matter what he's still thought his batch were going to come alive to keep my guy in a little bit, getting one more inning, then maybe pull them after this inning, and our bats are going to come alive at some point. I think those bets didn't necessarily that's right now. Yesterday and Moncada had AH, ahs good is the White Sox were Makana had wickedly awful. Siri's and was awful late yesterday. In a couple of opportunities to do something, especially in the ninth inning to tie the game or give the white socks the lead. So they had some chances late. They couldn't do it against you. And even when they got into that bullpen friends always like a high wire act. But I got the job done yesterday, like the Flying will lead the brothers. You just think that everyone gets a mansion up. If it's a playoff game. I think I'm pretty upset that a left he's not brought into face Kyle Schwarber there. Maybe you can live with it just to see you know, Let's see how Dylan sees navigates this. Let's see if he learns from it. Let's see if it makes him better for key moments later, when we're going to need him, so Thoughts on the way Ricky managed that spot yesterday. I didn't even know if he was going to come back out for the six the way he struggled through the fifth inning, and with how little, especially young pitchers these days, get the opportunity to face a line up a third time through 3123323776. Were you surprised at that? Miller? Absolutely. No left again like it Bummers healthy. Maybe it's an easy choice. Like you're going to Aaron Bomber to get Kyle Schwarber out, but they still have two left the options down. But the truth is, too, with an off day today and the fact that they didn't really have to tax their bullpen in the two days prior Now Giorgio came out, but he was a piggyback start. In that sense. It really wasn't taxing the bullpen, right? I was surprised, and I was a little perturbed as a White Sox fan with the sweep there within your grass, right? That you didn't go for, you know, to try and step on their throat. That instance. I don't know if there's something to be said for like again the other side of it being they really wanted to see. There's like there's the scene in Major league, right. Remember when he walks the bases loaded, doesn't he gives up the slam? And he turns the Lou Brown, he says. You want me to go get him, he says. Now, let's see how he responds. Then he throws in the middle of the guy's back and he gets tossed. Remember that scene because I think you can go get him now. Maybe Ricky sitting there thinking like, But what do you learning, though it like I know what you're saying, and ensure if he comes through that find you feel a little better. He got through the difficult 50. And you know, Schwarber was a bit bad at that point in your winning the game one Nothing and again with an off day today. I don't know what this is going. Is this going to prove to Ricky Renteria that come playoff time you need I need a quicker hook. I mean, Like I would definitely have been irate if this had been a more meaningful game, and I mean I rate and maybe said, Well, of course, it was meaningful like Miller just said they had a chance to sweep the Cubs. And they didn't Ah, game to win like a one game playing game a playoff game. Something like that It would be inexcusable. Maybe I should be a little bit more aggravated than I am today. But I was, I will say, I guess slightly perturbed by the way. It unfolded yesterday as I was watching. That even really came out to start the sixth. And then when he didn't go to a lefty to try to get Kyle Schwarber out, let's go to Jack, who is in Grand Beach, Michigan, on ESPN. 1000. What's up, Jack? Hey, fellas..

"Pending free agency in a couple of years, you know, and all the all the other players on the roster that are aging and maybe looking at one of their last best chance is to be productive players at the major league level, so for me Cubs. This is a critical year for them in an inn in a 60 game truncated season. As you pointed out, Fred that is not ideal for the White Sox. It's an opportunity to maybe make some hay and make a little bit of noise earlier than anticipated. If things go, you know you don't have to for the long haul. Really, you know, be a productive team. You can you can jump out early, and maybe, you know, light a fire and get something going here and make white sex fans very excited. The one thing about the White Sox division is that You know, you look at it. The twins but a monster numbers homerun wise. Last year, Rocco Baldelli comes in as a manager there. Just get the hell out of the ball. They got a couple of pictures. Cleveland, you're never sure about you thought they were going to get rid of Linda or he's still there. They're trying to figure things out. You do have the Royals and the Tigers. They're not. They're not that great. That's the opportunity to really get fat off of them. The White Sox have 20 games against the Royals and the Tigers, and if they crush them like they should. They can very easily be a play off team this year. I'm really eager to see the schedule and see how many team how many games the each team's gonna play against the other leagues Division. I want to see how many games the White Sox play against the Cardinals. We know is there's a least one On August 13th at the field of Dreams. Let's go Rolling Meadows and John John, How are you today? Good guys. I think the White Sox that they have an advantage. They have a manager that pretty much knows his bullpen. And and they've got a closer at the back. That's a flamethrower over and you saw what he did last year. With the Cubs. I think the biggest problem is you've got a young manager that has no idea what his bullpen Khun do, because a lot of those guys haven't he's never seen a pitch. And in the 60 game season, if you're in a race with the red who are just gonna I think they're gonna be dynamite this year. It's going to be a lot of pressure's gonna be on the young manager. I mean, And you've got a pitching coach that probably knows as much about his bullpen is the manager, So you better hope that he leads the pictures go longer than Madden did. Because if they start getting hit hard That manager is going to be looking to his pitching coach going. Hey, you know what? It's your bull and get somebody up because I don't know who's who John appreciate the call. I think the one thing about it is that As I talked to the head Josh Nelson at the White Sox bullpen is pretty darn good. When you look at it. They've got lefty guys. Jace Fry got Aaron Bummer whose it was really A really nice picture of you guys just had a nice deal. Really? Usually right. Yeah. So the Cubs you've got a lot of young guys and a lot of guys, you don't You know Jeremy Jeffers. You haven't seen pitching to cover uniform. There's a lot of other guys. You haven't seen pitching cup uniforms yet. I think the white sacks. I'm still eager to see how all of the managers and baseball are going to go with. Pulling guys. Yes, I still think they should give..

"Is some special for years to come. But you've been a huge district. Thanks for taking time. Congrats on the success and keep rolling. Absolutely. Thanks for having me. So there we go. James mccain. And there was kind of an awkward pause there. Right with about a minute left in the interview. And as you heard, you'll Mer walks out past us says Hello. He takes got a water bottle. And he puts it in McCann's phase like a microphone, and they were kind of fun. So I asked the question and then to manderson came for some gums. So we talked about. Emme but then all the White Sox were out in left field. And I'm sitting in the Bill out with them. So they're all out of left field stretching. And it's you know, there is a set time for this and James McCann is now officially laced talking to yours truly as the White Sox are going about their pre game. Now they ended up winning the ball game last night. So I'm not going to put myself on the chopping block here. But I did make James McCann late for his pre-game duties, and I would like to apologize for that personally right now on seven twenty WGN and White Sox weekly. I think he's earned the right to be thirty seconds late clearly because one thing about James McCann. You might not know on the White Sox bus on the road. They do karaoke, and I learned this from shut girfriend does a great job over at NBC sports, Chicago, apparently McCann is leading karaoke. On the team bus and, you know, he's I wouldn't call James McCann an extrovert. He's more introverted if anything. But here, he is, you know, you learn that play with the Tigers and some of the veterans over there, one guy that he singled out, torii hunter who was a great leader in this game phenomenal player as well. So just you know something that he's doing off the field. That is continuing to help the White Sox culture. And that's really one of the good things the White Sox have going for me in that clubhouse right now. There's really not. One guy that you could even point to that is a team guy that doesn't come in with a positive attitude that, you know, walks around the clubhouse grumpy. And that's not normally the case, certain plenty of teams, there's guys who are kind of in their own world, and it can impact chemistry white size clubhouses excellent. And James McCann is one of the big reasons why is solid addition in the leader in doing everything you possibly can help. "Back to White Sox weekly seven twenty WGN. White Sox weekly as we roll on the director of player development. Chris gets is with us. I think this is the first time we've spoken in twenty nineteen Chris gets good to have you on the show as always. Well, thanks for men. Good to be on your in two thousand nineteen so I'm cinder getting ready for the interview today, and I'm looking at the AAA roster and I'm looking at the big leagues. I'm thinking, Charlie Tilson Ryan Cordell. Daniel pocket Nikki del Monaco, Jose. Ruis Tian VERA deal. And Coby Carson Fulmer Aaron bummer I owes on fair Ataman goal. All these guys have been on the big leagues to the triple eight back or one way or the other all year and you've experienced that it's not easy right for a guy to be feeling like every at-bat his future is on the line. Can you talk about what the experience is like for these guys? Well, yeah mean there's certainly been a lot of activity, which is, is good in the sense of. Opera tune ity, but also sure, I think there's the mad at pressure that you put on yourself as a player, you know, going into spring training and Thirdly, towards the end of spring training there, there's, there's always a bit of an obsession on who's gonna make the twenty five man roster. Right. And lo and behold, inevitably, you know, three days in the fees and a guy from triple is going to be the major league roster. And obviously this year, there's been a lot of up and down. Sometimes that's a good thing for the major league club. And sometimes it's not a good thing based on, you know what's going on. But, you know for those players, I have tried to communicate that, you know, we get caught up with, with making the, the major league team. But if you don't it doesn't mean that you're not going to be up there and get -tunities and be able to potentially stick. But, you know, with the Charlie Pilsen the core. Dell. The bummer guy that have gone down. Let's say and maybe a little disappointed. But, but that being said these guys are pros. They went down there. They didn't hang their head at their work in and opportunity came. And now that they've, and they were playing well, obviously, and now they're up in the big leagues and they're continuing continuing to help the team win, and that it's really a testament to them and how they approach is whole thing. So I saw pretty cool story with, with Tilson, and Mark Rudd Zelano Charlotte knights AAA manager told them. I don't wanna see you back here and I don't know how much you got to watch AAA this year. But were you seeing the progression, and Charlie world? Hey, man. If this dude gets his chance he probably, you know, huge grand slam earlier in the week. But did you see, like perhaps, if he does get his chance, this guy could actually stick? I did see that. And, you know, everyone kind of knows most people know, Charlie story he's he's been handed. You know, you know, really. I mean he with the injury hamstring many had a foot injury that, that he got through the rehab process. And then he, he was really never it just taking him a while to really regain the strength and back to the player that he, he once was, and who we thought he was going to be, so you finally recovered had a healthy off season. He was well prepared. He was drawn and then baseball. Why everything seemed to be in think which was very connected to health? I thought he looked like a different player in spring training, and certainly down in Charlotte. I was able to feel. When they over an Indy and certainly communicating with, with the law, Nick and Frank Makino and the ball. He was hitting the ball harder. I mean we've got all the metrics nowadays. But if you just watch and you listen, you see the fact that he's putting together that, you know, that it should translate for success at the major league level, you were going to be better, Charlie Tilson this year, and we've been fortunate to, to tell kind of experience it and, and I couldn't be happier because Charlie such a great kid, and he works. But yeah, I mean how do you not like Charlie Tilson? I noticed that talking to them on the last home stands like dude, you put on some weight. I mean, there's it's clear that he spent time in the weight room. So I don't know. He he, you know years ago, and I got the no Charlie gosh, I was still playing. We shared the same agent. We actually worked out together, certainly different stages of our careers. But Charlie we I mean, we were working working together we were running together lifting. Together, and he was faster than me than me. And I know that's not saying much. But he he's a he was thirty athletic kid and just continued to grow. And I'm just happy. Getting this up tuning dog on the Chris gets speed. I'm not gonna say you're a body builder. But I mean you you're still in bags when you were out there, Chris GATS. Well, my point is I if there was one thing I was it was that, and I felt that Charlie had actually a leg up on me. Yeah. It's it's a big time. Compliment, as we jumped a little bit into your playing career. I've been paying attention to LCD Escobar down at AAA and he's been consistent all year. He's got the batting average way well up over three hundred. And, you know, I know that the white size have a ton of people in the infield. But it seems like somebody would want this guy on a major league roster. He's been impressive as he not. He had that, he's really, you know, for a guy that hasn't been in the minor leagues for years. He he's putting together some, some really good bad. He's driving the ball. Yeah. I mean he's in a really, really good place with I was just down Charlotte. This past weekend. He was driving some balls to the gap hitting the ball field. Yeah. It was. It was. It was really it was really fun to watch him play. So in east got a great attitude like the always has. And I, I see him. I'm seeing major league ability. I really am and wouldn't be surprised if you find his way helping us at some point, or perhaps even another club. I mean, this is a guy the N VP of the he's got a World Series rings played at a ton of big games. It's not like he was having a bad, you know, career up there. I mean he's a career to sixty hitter, so and he's not old either. So I think it's a nice piece. Just to be having sitting there and tastes something happens to anyone that at the, at the bare minimum and maybe maybe is a part of some deal who knows. Yeah. No. It's a nice to have down in, in, in AAA. Yeah. And he's accomplished a lot in this game. And, you know, here to help, you know, and he's going about this thing, the right way. And you know, teammates love them.
