"What team is going to be able to put the salaries together of players who aren't valuable trade for someone like john wall. I that is a i. Shout out to him and his representation for for trying to find a barner. But they're gonna have to call in some insane famous. How how would you feel about the. How would you feel about the sixers trading for him. they they need. They need lena ball handler. They need to point guard. You definitely shoot. Which is good so i don't think while the sixers is as absurd as some people think it is but that can't be who they get for. Ben simmons that's going to be like three team trade or something like that because the trade can't be john wall for ben simmons s. We ben simmons for john wall a ton of assets or there's a third team involved but i mean if you're really trying to that can't be what they get into simmons dark dark reality where what else are they gonna get it this point right like it's pretty tough ron. And it seems like the sixers one arcade going to training camp about with having him on the demon. I wonder how long that's gonna last. And i mean it's an option. It's not a good one but it's an option. I mean i just like you get a third team involved a wide the rockets i don't know man battle us your day. You look saw like simmons for wall on. You're like wow that's bleak music. I saw someone tweeted out. Like simmons for wall. And i'm like man. No i was already really pushing the limits of simmons simmons for harrison barnes. But man simmons for wall would be particularly particularly upsetting Dan i don't know if you had to guess do you think they're able to move him this season. I know it's kinda crazy because the contracts are getting moved. Maybe like we never expected before. But i don't even know even know who would take. That's feels like something to kings will do. That's a good. That's a good culture. I think they do because you're right like some team is going to.

"Alright palace. So you and i actually. I met a couple years ago. It clippers immediate day. And as you'd like to remind me. I was walking around with my backpack on the whole time and it was really embarrassing. I was new to los angeles. I was really nervous. The backpackers offered me a sense of security. And i wanted to have this conversation with you. Because it's really funny to think about just two short years ago when i first got to los angeles. A big reason why i was there was this. Huge burgeoning lakers clippers rivalry right. Everything was about basketball center is now in. La lebron in the same city. You know the path to the title. These teams are on a collision. Course it's going to be incredible and both teams are playing down the rivalry. Even though the clippers are putting up all these billboards at our subliminal shots at the lakers et cetera. In two years. I we got a couple of solid christmas day games. They don't meet in the playoffs in your one. You're to the clippers. Tried to avoid the lakers in the playoffs. Only for the lakers to go out and round one and now it seems like no one. Even cares about the lakers clippers rivalry anymore. I i'm just curious. What you make of this. Do you think anyone has their eye on these two teams as rivals anymore because two years ago and slightly head into the last season. It was a very big deal. Now it's just. I don't think anyone considers them in the same league kind ya i think. Only patrick beverley does. I think we've done a different team. But who needs the lakers clippers No it's so greasy. How quickly the luster has gone up that entire situation. I mean i remember right. Likes those media. Days was such a big deal because it was all the questions to the lakers. About the clippers. Inauguration cope at the lakers and it was just is concentrating back in the back and forth of the two teams and obviously when they played the games..

"Probably not can he be the third guy on a team absolutely. Why wouldn't you sign up for that. And they're going to extract more value from him than most other teams leave because what they're asking him to do. And that's what makes the contract worth now. I saw the look on your face. Paulo when i said the nuggets were title contender. I i've seen that look on your face before many times in my life. And when i say something crazy and you're not a fan of it i wanna ask you your honest thoughts on the jamal. Murray michael puerto junior. Aaron gordon nicoli ioka core I've seen some nuggets. Reporters say that they expect 'em pj to get extended at some point or e seems to be the team's future plans. What do you think of that court floor in denver. Do you think they're title contender. I think the reality is that the nuggets have done everything right like they literally have done the team building. They've they've got the second round. See yokich tournaments an emmy. They have done nothing on almost nothing wrong. I would say and so. It's hard to criticize them. But when you look at the reality of the landscape and what teams look like. I just don't see how this team is more than perhaps a conference finals. It's hard for me to see that because obviously we don't know what your mom. Mary's can look like that's a big question. Mark coming back from injury. But even just in general i just there's just something missing and i'm not you know this is not to denigrate yoga quite on you on serious. I'm serious. He i know he can be in the room player on a title. I believe that. But it's just more about you. Know kind of putting them up against each other teams like. Are you really going to sit here and homey that the nuggets could be you know the nets for example or even the box. You know i. I don't know i don't know i don't know that you answer to that question and i feel like if things break right they can totally at titled they need things break right whereas other teams might not might be able to you know charter on pal. That's interesting i will say. I liked the nuggets in the west. Especially if murray is healthy. Now that's a big and that's a little bit unfair. But i don't look at any team in the west right now. As a runaway favourite the lakers are an absolute wildcard. The suns are team. That had a lot of things break right for them to the playoffs last year. The clippers are obviously dealing with the choir injury and guess what nuggets already beaten the clippers in a playoff series When their team was fully healthy. So i look at it as a team that can absolutely make run to the finals when healthy beyond that. They've the youngest core of any title contender of which i think they have the bigger the biggest window right. I mean the lakers lebron's obviously on the wrong side of thirty five. At this point the clippers audrey dealing with health issues with kawai. I just think the nuggets have a wide open window. And i know that those windows always end up being way shorter than we assume crazy. Things happen in this league movements knots. But i really like the I do think they can beat the bucks playoff series. I i really liked the bucks but there were times when they were really underwhelming during the Year before the vinyls. I the nets are obviously the the big juggernaut looming. But there's outside of them. There's no team that..

"The millers tone about this. He seems the hell not a level of harshness. That i could get a good work up to but i will say i think that's just life in the nba now for especially for a team mcnuggets. You know they probably are not gonna get somebody like gordon free agency. It's gonna take a lot for them to entice somebody to sign with them so the fact that they have this guy in house. They have to do everything to keep them. And i'm sure in gordon's agents know that leverage this kind of over him so i think it's just the reality i think for denver. Even it's overpay if you wanna call that in made sense because they have no other avenue for getting better unless they decided trades memorial or or michael which doesn't seem like they were wanna do yeah. I couldn't agree with you pal. And i think a lot of good points there about this being the reality of the nba. As i tweeted. I loved the signing for denver. I think it's an a. I think it's a home run. I think it's a no brainer. And that's because they have a team that can contend for a championship. They have an mvp level player. Frankly the mvp nicole ioka jr a jamal marina sending star an intriguing young talent michael porter jr. a lot of good and interesting role players. Michael green's been good for them. They have jeff green monti morris probably one of the better backup point guards in the league and now of course aaron gordon. You can't afford to not keep this core together. We've seen teams let guys walk for money and then and then get killed for. What did we say. The bucks malcolm brogden go you know. Would you rather have had him. And obviously they ended up winning. They were able to swing that drew holiday trade but it came at a steep price of the sons back in the day when they let joe johnson walk There are so many examples of teams getting close to building a title contender and then getting cheap at the last second letting someone walk out the door and we kill them for that. How can we criticize the nuggets for quote unquote overpaying. Someone like erin burden. Who i might add..

"That's on the cusp. And he's actually performing in helping them and taking them to another level. That's one thing. I don't know the job was going to perform that right. Like it's one thing to be overpaid. It's and i know this is gonna sound very profound but it's another thing that'd be vastly over chow. Wall is a this is gonna be tough. I'm going to be watching this closely because again you know. We'll get into this with aaron gordon but he is in clutch. We trust you know the way they do. Business is a lot different from a lot of people. So i'm i'm interested to see kids handle the thing about being overpaid too is. It's not just seeing a number and getting the sticker shock and the exorbitant salary. It just makes it more difficult to move other than the kinds of scenarios that sharks laid out with the clippers where you have multiple veterans on contracts worth like ten fifteen million or more. It's just hard to get enough money together much less to actually want this version of john wall. Will i wanna talk about the clippers. Part of this because charges suggestion was interesting. Because i thought about the clippers is option if he were to get bought out. I honestly couldn't come up with a single team. Who would actively trade for john wall on his contract. Which for the record is two years point. One seven million dollars The second year is a player option. He will most likely be taking that player option. And so like. Why do you think that fit makes sense. Like if you're just giving up like guys who are essential to the title-winning product with lsd. You like him in on team as a hope of course because john walls back in his heyday you know when he was leading the league in corner. Threes generated stuff like that like he was an incredible playmaker. He was incredible guys up. If finding open shooters and you know driving kick type of game like he was amazing at that he kind of left it. Because sometimes i think guys don't feel content being a table center. They feel like you. Get your name in sportscenter by getting buckets write. Hashtag buckets has to do the bucket..

"This year, so if we remember, he came in on that contract that was a declining contract previous the one he signed with the magic. And he's probably outplayed it a little bit. At number feels a little big to me. I think about 20 million average annual value was what I had pegged for Gordon because you've already got jokic night so when reminder, this kicks in next season, this is not this year. So next year, when this kicks in, you'll have him at about 20 ish million. You'll have jokic at 33.6 tomorrow Mario 31.6. And I'm going to guess Michael Porter junior is going to be on the full max right around 29.7. And then you've got will Barton at 14.4 in Monte Morris at 9.1. That is an extremely expensive team. Now you've got your top 5 in your 6th man locked up. So you're not in a bad spot necessarily. If you're the nuggets, but yeah, if you believe in what happened after they traded for Gordon, when Maury was still healthy in that, that stretch, you can see why they did this because Denver looked like they might have been a title contender. If you are a little more skeptical on Aaron Gordon, then you start to think, boy, that's an awful lot of money to lock up for him. But I guess if you're Denver, you're looking at his look, we don't want to run the risk of losing this guy. I'm not exactly sure who the suitors would have been. This off season. It's not a great summer for cap space teams. Not a great summer to be a free agent, but you'd rather not mess around if you can get the guy locked in and what you feel is a pretty fair number. Get it done and keep this thing moving forward. Yeah, I mean, this isn't that far off from like, say what Lonzo Ball got or something. So I'm totally fine with Aaron Gordon getting this number because like you said, I think he does bring a piece that can take the nuggets to another level. And if you buy into what they did right before Jamal Murray got hurt, they looked like the team that was going to come out of the Western Conference. Now, again, there is that big qualifier there that we don't know for sure that that was going to be sustainable or not Denver clearly thinks that it was, but you also have the rating MVP. And so you've got to do everything you can to maximize that window to win to win right now. And you can say, look, even the MVP, right? Injury probably impacted that. Jokic is probably not the MVP if everybody stayed healthy around the NBA, but the reality is that you got it..

"It's the contract that really complicates things here for his situation. So it'll be interesting to see how the Houston Rockets do handle this. It is a bit ironic. I mean, they go from Chris Paul to Russell Westbrook tonight and John wall and here we are. But it is good to hear that is an amicable situation. It says John wall demanding out. This is both sides came together and said, look, this is the reality of this situation. Let's work together and let's see what we can find. And so that's where now John wall's agency, they can go around to teams around the NBA and they can openly talk like, hey, what are you, what can you guys offer? What can we create here and they don't have to do anything secret behind closed doors because both sides are on the same page. And I think that does help the process. Yeah, for sure. Now, for the rocket side, without John wall playing, opens the path, Kevin Porter junior at much like he was after he got traded there is going to be the starting point guard for the Houston Rockets going into next season. My guess is they might bring Jalen green on along a little slowly. Maybe Eric Gordon starts initially, but my guess is by the holidays, it's Kevin Porter junior and Jalen green are playing all the meaningful minutes in that rockets backcourt and then the vets like Gordon DJ Augustine, David dewa, those guys are just going to be filling in here and there for those guys back up minutes. At this point, they're still trying to move Eric Gordon. We know that. That's been going on for months now that that's been rumored. So we'll see. But yeah, Kevin Porter junior, he wasn't bad. It's going to be bumpy at times, so it was, but why not you're not a good team, you might as well see if you can turn them into a point guard because if you can, you have an infinitely more valuable player than just an off ball wing player, which Porter probably is never going to shoot it enough to give you a ton of value there, but as an on ball guy, you might have something there..

"Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the NBA front office show. We've got some NBA news to dive into today involving high profile names we're talking John wall and Aaron Gordon, but first, Keith, did you see the hawkeye trailer? Oh my gosh, I meant to talk about it on yesterday's show. And somehow it slipped my mind. It's die hard with a bow and arrow. I love it. Sign me up. I love it. I love the tag that the best gifts come with a ball. So that is phenomenal marketing. Yeah, I can't wait. To see this one, just like it was all the rest and so we'll get the eternals a couple of weeks ahead of that. And then okay on Thanksgiving eve and that's a nice night to get it because we generally won't have NBA games the next day. So we'll be able to watch hawkeye, probably one of the turkeys cooking and enjoy just a nice day of marvel and then some football food and family and all that good stuff. Gonna be a good time. I will say this. And I promise we will get to our NBA basketball stuff, but Jeremy Renner plays hawkeye. And my daughter, year or so ago, she was four, maybe she was still three at the time, but but she was pronouncing hawkeye as hot guy, like HOT. Nice. Guy, and my wife did not correct her. I don't know how to feel about that right now, but in any event, I'm sure that she'll watch that marvel series with lane household. Yeah. It was amazing. I love it. But anyway, this is that's an exciting thing that's going to be coming up. Sorry, we had to geek out a little bit over the marvel stuff and the hawkeye trailer, which was absolutely phenomenal. But there's some NBA news to break down. First, they'll make sure you guys do subscribe right here to the NBA front office, a YouTube channel. If you listen to the podcast version, make sure that you follow us up on Spotify, Apple podcasts, wherever it is, you listen to podcasts. We are growing this show, so please make sure that you do subscribe and don't forget to turn on notifications as well. Keith, let's start things off with John wall, a Houston rocket for now. But will not be a Houston rocket into the future. It sounds like he is going to be treatable. The rockets are hoping. They're hoping anyway. Let's get into that. What's going to happen here? The rockets, John wall working together to try to find a trade and he will not play any more games for Houston. Yeah, so this is that working together part is where it's very different from the 76ers and Ben Simmons who are not exactly working together. They're kind of working apart right now. So it sounds like by all accounts John wall has been very good in his time in Houston. He's been somebody that the younger players have really come to rely on for leadership. He's been a great leader for them. In the rockets are looking at insane..

"The reason why i was thinking of him was that wednesday night game against phoenix. Because it just ground my gears. Michael i mean you get down into a late. Fourth quarter possession. Game utah is relying really heavily on donovan mitchell. I'm he has forty one points in that game is just an awesome performance. He's been great lately. Probably deserves more hype than he's been getting and the ball kicks to bo yan wide open three. This is a playoff preview. There's like you know maybe a minute left in this game. He's gotta clean look at it. And what does he do. He double clutches for no reason. He double clutched because he was one for eight from deep on the night and he didn't want the whole game writing on his shot. You can't have that mentality bo yang. You've got to step up and be ready to jacket instead. He double clutches winds up shooting. Mrs and you know they go on to lose that game in overtime. It just really bothered me. You can't be that double collector. You know you gotta let that thing fly. I'm sure they talked about that after the game as well and You know part of the problem is there are other front court. Scoring options. Aren't great. And i do think utah's going to get into a situation where their defense is not going to be as good in the playoffs. As it's ben during the regular season they're gonna find themselves more reliant upon their offense to win these games and that's been the case look back to last year's postseason again to this crazy shootout with the denver nuggets because they're not to have that same level of defensive impact if they wanna hit sixth gear basically has to have with bo yang or. It's not going to happen. That's how i view it are might. I know you've been dying to talk about. Aaron gordon probably ever since the trade deadline. Because pretty sure he's like one of your favorite players He's looked awesome. There were seven in. Oh in the first seven games and also their offensive rating with their five man group They've only played four games together because joma got injured. But it's something like one hundred thirty three point nine. I believe which is just off the charts ridiculous practically scoring every single time down the court. So needless to say he's been a clean fit and he has the potential to elevate them to being one of the top favorites in the western conference. I kind of feel like Right now denver's the team had. Nobody wants to play After they got that maneuvers lakers fans. And we'd rather play phoenix and denver. You know. I think a lot of people are are feeling that way in the west. What do you see from. Aaron gordon The reason why. I put him as an x factor. Five career playoff appearances. One career playoff win this guy's been in the nba for a while. That says something about orlando of course and their lack of playoff history but it also makes him a question. Mark like what is playoff. Gordon look like you're right. I do love aaron gordon. I'm infatuated with this fit. It's really funny. You look at just his entire career if you go to Cleaning the glass dot com. You're able to see points per shot attempt that a player yields during any season and up until he was traded to denver basically he never got above one. Oh eight which is not a great number of europe a primary ball handler as he wasn't a lot of different roles for that team or even just a forward and in denver. He's at one thirty one which is lake absolutely ridiculous and it's all because of the shots that he's taking like he's a lot of them are it's all because on us..
Aaron Gordon Makes His Debut for the Nuggets Against the Hawks
"All right. Get into a little bit of basketball here. Aaron gordon the big acquisition at the deadline for the denver nuggets made his debut sunday verse. The hawks a solid debut might look the line and say thirteen points on six of nine shooting. That is exactly what the nuggets want. He played really well off to coca shed a beautiful dunk on the baseline. This is what they want him to be. They want him to be a cutter playing with better players for the first time in his career. I mean he's played with better players and vuckovich but not a player. I'm nicola yokich is standards. I just wondered when aaron gordon went over to the nuggets. Would he be able to cut that dribbling out. He played more like a superstar more ball in his hands. I'm going to do this thing on my own. Can he be a support player. He used nicole yoga's gravity pretty well in this game they will pick and roll action going nine shots. The only misses were from three point. Land the more tuesday better with aaron gordon. But he if he can fill that jeremy grant role that they lost last year in the playoffs. Just be that guy who's a third option and hit shots. I mean that is absolutely
Aaron Gordon Addresses Trade Request
"Denver took care of orlando by double digits. And the magic's aaron gordon was very open about his trade request on his zoom presser after the game. I'm not sure if. I should applaud him for his forthrightness. Or if i yearn for the days where players would keep their demands. A little bit more covert. Screw it good for him even if it hurts the magic can get in return because they have little leverage. This seventh year player needs a new start. And he's been telling his team management for awhile that they need to change their ways as he candidly said on. Zoom that info doesn't really help their off-season attractiveness. Either but i heard the lines at disney are very short right now.

"I want to say you wrote was this almost a year and half or two years ago. You originally wrote on Aaron Gordon as a concealable trade Target back in was it was that 2019 or was that 2020? Oh, yeah, boy, I don't know that was a while ago. He's been a conceivable trade Target for a while. He sort of the conceivable trade Target for you know for for what the team most likely needs, um around the other players that they have but that was like three formulations of the team ago. I also write about him being a trade Target last year for you know, if they had wanted to trade Gordon Hayward before we left wrote about em in the preseason as a potential trade Target. Once they once a word had been moved and creating the TP. I'm not alone in that right? Yeah. He's our than out there for a while. I guess the entire league he's off on the contract that has been a conceivable. Hey, that's a guy. Not making too much money. Probably not in the right situation for him. And on a team that doesn't seem to be going anywhere and now after those two or three years. I don't really enjoy your senses. This nothing has happened yet, but it seems there is the most amount of smoke coming around in from from multiple ports all over the place that the Celtics are in the mix of life, you know some other prominent teams here and so let's start here. I guess. My standpoint is the we don't need to really go into why Gordon makes sense for some things we've talked about that plenty before the other parts conceivable parts of a deal fascinating here since the Celtics could simply do a straight-up deal for him for pretty much draft Capital take Born Into the team player accepted a part of it and then make some moves around the edges to make sure they avoid the tax for the season which I think we both agree is a is a a primary goal for for this group home. How they played this year, but now we're hearing Evan Fournier again involves, which asks another potentially Marcus Smart getting involved here. What what do you make of this Ryan? And I know you had a 1018 in the deal that is as picking up steam here and like why would that make sense for the Seas if you can take us through that one?.

"Coming in John Collins as well as involved as well. What's interesting both Collins in Port and it feels like Barnes the asking price seems to be the same exact thing which is a young young player and a draft pick and a first-round pick the problem with the Celtics is they don't have a good young player one of these and one one there one Robin Williams home. And and now one of these reports has them. They tried to Dish Collins to the Wolves for a first-round pick and Malik Beasley and the Wolf said no so, you know, it's lesser than Malik wage. Lesser than Malik Beasley, but we don't but seems to be greater than Aaron Nesmith. So, you know, that's here's the problem here. And if the Celtics don't have a young player are they in play for any of these guys and if so, does it have to be robbed or multiple firsts and that's kind of I think where we're at here. Yeah, I'm with you first is that if they're coming from Boston cuz right now they have all their own pix. They're going to break and it at best late teens, but most likely in the twenties and that gets you Grant Williams that gets you okay off every person to me those who guys aren't example of the feast or famine potential with late first-round picks. So if you're giving up a guy of of significant stature, you're not going to roll the dice or something like that. You want something a little more Improvement in terms of players and Rob Williams is the only asset they have that in that twenty five and under range that tastes one. And they're not party with Robin Williams. Unless you're talking about some, you know, an an Anthony Davis not an impulsive it I don't.
Celtics run past Magic 124-97 after week-long hiatus
"Jaylen brown and the Celtics showed little rust in a one twenty four ninety seven route of the magic after a week long layoff brown had twenty one points and eight assists to lead Boston in its first game since January eighth following three straight postponements amid the team's Colbert nineteen outbreak we now more than ever need to realize like this can be taken away just like that so every time we get a chance to go out there we were winning losing time why not leave your member that semi Chile added eighteen points in the eight in three Celtics fifth straight win despite star Jayson Tatum remaining sidelined due to cope with health and safety protocols Aaron Gordon's team high seventeen points couldn't save the six and six magic from a fourth straight loss I'm given called law
Washington DC chefs band together to create new ‘ghost’ restaurant due to pandemic
"On how restaurants are finding new ways to adapt to survive during this pandemic in DC is Global Park neighborhood. What used to be a popular restaurant and bar has been gutted. We turned our entire biggest dining room of the former restaurant and turn into a giant bakery. Aaron Gordon is the owner of Ghost Line. Which took this old restaurant space on Wisconsin Avenue and turned it into several many restaurants. There is outdoor seating, but most customers either order take out or delivery. The different chefs used to shared staff to help make it all go. I think anytime you compared to a food court, it comes with negative connotations, but that's kind of how it works. Executive chef Peter Smith thinks this idea will take off rents are expensive. And that's a lot of sandwiches or a lot of plates or a lot of entrees. You got to sell. "He's been up and down in the playoffs like he hasn't been outstanding. And he's been solid. He's done his job. He had one great three point shooting game and game seven against philli when they absolutely desperately needed it. And other than that has been ice cold from three but he's done his job. It's not like not a star anymore, not starter anymore. If you are part of a championship contender, if you're part of a final, steam, and you're part of a champion, eventually, if you're part of it, if even if you play eight ten minutes, whatever like much less rolling tobacco. Like you're a hero forever. You get to be part you get to be part of a two year swept up in a two year part of the legend. Even if you're DeMarcus cousins, you know, the guy who had to find a spot on the two time, defending champion, super team because no one else wanted to pay. What you thought you were worth because you told you achilles like you're still a part of it. And I like, just for some reason seeing a Bacha walk into that restaurant because you see all the time you hear about players who sort of like I think of Aaron Gordon a lot like this hour, totally often attention, but, like Aaron Gordon has been very vocal about he wants to be Paul George. He wants to play like LeBron. He wants to run a lot of pick and roll in score twenty five game. And I keep thinking to myself, man, Aaron Gordon, you don't have to call a single play for him. And you could score sixteen ten rebounds five assists. Elite defense across all five positions. And you do that on a winning team. You're an all star like everything everything you want from scoring twenty five points a game and being LeBron comes to you by doing that. And it's it's it's hard to get some players to get into that mindset. For some reason, the video I totally agree with you. If your cousins, you just got to be like, you know what if I'm even a small part of this, I go down in history forever. Well. And also all those role players are contribution, get overdramatic. A lot of these guys could be replaced by other players and the results would change. That's why but in it, I mean what a great opportunity. I mean doesn't mean like I always think about, you know, your mentioned Aaron Gordon, right? Like think about Draymond green had a very, very below average regular season. Right. And is anybody talking about that now? No other talking about is versatility intensity defense, passing all these things. So you don't even have to be really good for really long in those roles. Like you said about a bucket game seven you have one game like that in this run, you don't need to be consistent. The guy that needs to be consistent is, Lowery is Kawhi Leonard right? I mean those guys have to carry your team with a. Consistency but the role players they can play well on this night and not so well on this night and have their legend cemented by winning. And, and by the other the truly great players carrying a team. And you see it with curry, and, you know, like I always laugh at the flow can strengthen numbers because it's really truly strengthen stars and the numbers come along with the stars people, it's that time of year again the playoffs basketball's home stretch. This is where all the hard work pays off when we see who's tough enough to be crowned the champion of the NBA players or more driven than ever to go further faster and longer. And that's what drives Goodyear to make tires that do the very same thing. Good your knows that performance is everything. Whether it's on the road or on the best while courts when it comes to choosing tires, let Goodyear dot com help you choose what's best Goodyear. More driven. Okay. Let's, let's get into it. Speaking of Colli, and his consistency. Which is just been. Guys just a machine. And I know people will take that as a pun on his personality,.

"This is Benjamin k back and you're listening to another episode of the second avenue, sagas podcast, this week, we're talking the transit Newsbeat as far as local news. Beats go covering transportation in New York City, and all of the various warring factions at played the governor the mayor the MTA the DOT, the is an exercise in acronyms, end futility, arcane budgeting practices frustrating, lack of transparency and government agencies of frayed of public scrutiny create a seemingly impenetrable veil of silence. And the public often feels as though faceless agencies operate at their own whims transit beat writers were tirelessly to bring these goings on to light in an effort to shed publicity on the way transit agencies are working to improve. But more importantly, the way transit agencies struggled to improve low remaining transparently accountable to the fair pain public so dependent on their services. Joining me this week is Aaron Gordon. A soon to be former transit beat writer. Aaron picked up the transit beat a few years ago as a writer at the village voice and well with the voice, he started the popular signal problems newsletter using his talents as an investigative reporter and his keanae for transit stories, Aaron's reporting, shed light on questionable subsidies for the NYC ferry system, and highlighted how the MTA's approached signal timers slowdown subway service throughout the city among various other stories, the newsletter is read by veritable, who's who NYC's transit and political community from the speaker of the city council to the current heads of the MTA. In fact, both Pat Foye and Andy Byford have mentioned the newsletter in recent meetings. Now, Aaron his hanging up his subway reporting spikes before he sends out those last few issues of signal problems, along with a few more photos of dogs and bags Aaron agreed to sit down with me for a conversation on all things transit. Erin, thanks for joining me. Hey bends pleasure. Let's start with the question on every New Yorkers mind. In previous issues of signal problems you used to predict when things are going to get better. And you used to land generally on mid twenty twenty two though subway service seems to be on the upswing. When do you think things will get better and why you know, but thinking about this question? A lot recently partly because several readers road in with that. Same question for the meal. Edition. I'm going to do a couple of weeks. But I'll I'm happy to answer the question. Here is a preview of sorts. One of the reasons I stopped doing that little section of the newsletter. A couple of months ago, which as I wrote was, it became increasingly hard to separate or I'm sorry became increasingly hard to reconcile, these short term gains. The subway has been having in performance with kind of this long term pessimism. I have about whether the fundamentally changing and I think those fundamental changes are necessary in order to make sure we don't repeat, this boom and bust cycle that the subway kind of Mt. Properties in general have but in the short run. I mean, there's really I think no debate that the subway is and has gotten better since I started that feature. So there's kind of like a it's like when Reverend Lovejoy Simpson's like. Short answer. Yes. With enough long answer. No with the but is kind of like the answer. So I think like the reason I picked June twenty twenty two as the date that kind of hung around for a long time is because according to the fast forward plan that was when re signalling on the Lexington avenue lines would have been completed about it didn't give a strong date. But if you kind of peace to couple of pieces of the puzzle together would have been about in the summer twenty twenty two and that seemed like a good basis as any for like, when the subway would be better. It really seems like if you can fix the Lexington avenue problems, and then sort of focus on queens boulevard. You've solve two of the major pain points in the subway system. And that's when people really start to feel that services getting better. Right. And queens, boulevards currently undergoing recycling process. Although it's not incredibly clear like how far along that is or how reliably we should how much confidence we should have in the expected, completion date. They're given how the L and the seven recycling's have gone. But yet I mean if you. I think that's right. If you if you solve queens boulevard or if you if you get signaling there, and if you get signaling on the lex, I think that really frees up a lot of operational possibilities, and it's certainly been interesting to see service improve fairly noticeably over the last couple of months. No,

"It's going to be it's going to be religious in zoo Orlando decides to do their because does not HANA talent on that roster. But he certainly is talented, and you know, if they go if they decide not to bring him back, you know that somebody who might be close to a sure thing as he's at least a good player. That's a at somebody. We've seen do well in the past. So you would basically be potentially rescuing him walking away when he could potentially as you said be the best player on your team right now. Yeah. It's interesting whatever the magic drafted mogambo. I remember I reached out to Nick that night. And he was blindsided by you know, he didn't know that they were going to go after a big, man. But he said all the right things handle it the right way. Basically said, you know, look, I think he's his games very different than mine. We can complement each other. I wanna help mentor him. And if you talk to the guys Orlando know, that's exactly what he's been. He hasn't been someone that just going out for you know, trying to put up his own numbers and not care about the team. It's been cool to see him take on that mentor ship role in help agai like Moba or even guy like Jonathan Isaac. Or Aaron Gordon these guys that are younger than him. He's been really open to doing that. And I like to see that from a star player. I think it's great to see that from that kind of leadership. And the thing I'm excited to you know, he's one of the nicest guys in the world. So it's really easy to root for him. Whenever he signed his contract this pastime. He he got a contract extension rather than hitting free agency. So Healy is making twelve million dollars this year and really over the course of the entire contract. It's been a bargain deal. I remember the day that the deal got announced people were surprised that he was willing to take that rather than wait until free agency. So he's one of those guys that you know, probably is going to want a lot of money to just because he's already been taking pay cuts year after year because of the situation he was in. He kind of broke out right after signing that extension. So he's gonna probably want some money the family thing. Like, I said, though that factors in I know his wife loves Orlando. They like the idea of raising a child there. There's just a lot to take in. When you look at. Nation on and off the court because he like you said the magic do have mobile, but at some point you have to imagine what the pick that they used on him that he's going to be the center of the future. And then just the trajectory of of the magic young players. And Nick, he's twenty eight years old both those guys in that locker room are much younger. The question is if the magic turned into a contender are we gonna see on the on the next contending magic team? It seems like that would be unlikely because all the other guys need to hit their prime. And then by the time, they do that. He may be no longer producing at this level but props to him. I mean, he put it in so much work. I remember when he first started shooting threes and really working on that aspect of his game. I remember thinking, you know. Okay. This is something that he feels like he has to do just because of today's big men, and what's asked of them. I didn't necessarily think he would do this. Well, the now he's making almost three and a half per game shooting thirty eight point three percent from three fifty two percent from the field. I mean, it's not like he's going out..

"It's interesting are going interesting. Will he what sort of golden you getting in this try to getting the guy who's always? Twenty-three? I know I think he's great upside. And he could be that flow. Spacing super-athlete big man if he can consistently hit that three. But we know that he tends to cool off as a season where his on here. Here's what charts rights. It's win win for everyone. The ceiling for a team built around Lillard, and Gordon is higher than the one with Lillard and McCollum. Okay. And the ceiling for a team built around McCullum is higher than one with Gordon down in Orlando. I think that's fair. I really do. I buy that. They're both the teams that have had positional needs for a long time. The and they would fill the those exact fairly fairly closely to those exact needs. Like, you said magic of had a lot of Biggs. Let's get rid of one. The players have a lot of Little's. Let's get rid of one and get one of the opposites. What do you think? Aaron Gordon averages here. Eighteen fifteen point six. Yeah. It's a little shocking. It isn't this morning. And then the charts his reasoning is like they now play McCollum Lillard so much together. I used to stagger them a lot more. But they're like, hey, Evan Turner. You're running the show with the second unit. So they're just playing together a lot. It's like sixty five percent of their minutes. It used to be last year. Like, so there was times when one guy was just out there Lillard McCall. And now it's up to ninety one point five percent that Lillard Macomer playing together for it was what nearly Terry stuffed with that team. And that's what he that's what he changed up from last year. But now the blazes also have seemed to have just settled back to where we expect them to be more that maybe be six besting. But. Third in the west. But they're not really like, I don't think that any closer than they will ask you know, if it was a blazers thunder playoff series right now. I mean. Yeah. I guess if it was a blazers jazz playoff series right now. Jazz. Trying to help you make your because I with you. I'd like they're good. I don't have a lot of confidence in them. So this is interesting. And then so it's sort of, you know, Charkes ends up throwing Terrence Ross in the mix like Aaron Gordon Terrence Ross and then to make the money work McCollum and either like a mohawk less or Meyers Leonard going back to Orlando. I think the magic would definitely want heartless in that situation. Coloring back. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah. It was there. Anyway, let's hear from you guys. It's a fun one. It's a crazy trade idea season here where you just come up with something Chuck out there and see what people think, but I don't dislike it Aaron Gordon Mesa fresh probably needs a fresh start. Not not to say he can excel in Orlando. Probably can. But it would be nice for him after they, you know, go get mogambo and go get Jonathan Isaac and go get surge Abucha and go give rich that. He's definitely an iron going because you seem sometimes with like dribble step back three swish..
