"The Postal Service, you know, the postal service has been kind of at the top of news headlines recently primarily because obviously, you know vote by mail has become so crucial for our democracy to actually work in November and at the same time totally unrelated. I'm sure the USPS has come under attack by the Bush Administration and at the same time. It's facing a financial shortfall and it has not received like relief from Congress to Congress is extended to some other Industries. There was a house built provide relief, so we'll talk more about all this stuff. But we also wanted to focus on like some of the surprising connections between the postal service and our Healthcare System and some lessons for the medcom. For a moment since you know, we're really trying to establish Healthcare as a public right in a similar way that the Postal Service exists as a universal Public Service accessible to all Americans right now, but I'm really kind of fighting to preserve that to keep that in place. So Stephanie, do you want to introduce Our Guest sure, so welcome to the podcast Steve dimatteo executive assistant took the president of the a PW and the apw's liaison to the medicare-for-all movement. Hi, Steve. Hi Stephanie. How are you? I been why do you believe that Medicare fraud is important for postal workers? And why is it become a priority for the president of the Union Mark Dimond steam? Well, thanks for having me on the show really appreciate the opportunity Medicare fraud was an important priority for our Union because it's an important priority for all working people. Frankly. It's a matter of social justice. It's the reason we do what we do advancing the interests of workers. Yep. Every single day and we know that in the health system that the country currently operates in that it's too expensive. There are too many people left out and the simple fact that our members for the most part have good health insurance isn't reason enough to to ignore that fight when we were sitting across the the bargaining table with our employers. Most notably the postal service..

Next you had one of the how do I say even say it one of the most mysterious competitor Georgia and the Carolinas Jackson saying defeated the future Nathan cross snaked across as somebody again starting to Branch out a little bit starting to make more appearances and it was Jack insane who won the match in not not a very covid-19 Lee way as he spit that red, Miss. Who knows what's in that read messages? Is where it comes from but blinded night and crossing and got the victory. You had two guys who were very familiar with each other. I don't know if their paths had crossed in singles competition, but tie-dye Sunrise James Johnson defeated locally hated Chris valo. that's the thing I mean what could you just nobody to bother me it would be off my gosh be awesome awesomeness open phones a triple eight eight two five five two two five thank you for bothering us thanks for being with us we're here to take care of you to guide you to give you hope to tell you you're gonna make it you're gonna make it by the way if nobody told you that this week you're gonna pay okay Amy is with us I am is in Tennessee hi Amy how are you we are very excited to talk to you you too are how are you absolutely and I'm I have a question and my husband and I have been looking to use it or not one seven and we find that we have a a mortgage and we have about two years left on it about twenty thousand dollars left and we have about forty three thousand last I'm sorry forty three thousand in the bank should we go ahead and just hold off or should we just keep paying on it we pay about a week at eight hundred dollars extra forty three thousand dollars in the bank and you have no damage except your twenty thousand dollar mortgage yes paid off today okay what would you wait I don't know I guess because because there's forty three thousand dollars in the bank I guess effect it'll be twenty three thousand in the bank okay okay what's your household income hello both the best it's it's about a hundred and forty thousand dollars a year okay so if you kept the mortgage how much would you pay on a month to go and knock it out early where it moves but after that we pay better eight hundred and eighty dollars a month on the mortgage is that the regular payment you're paying extra that's extra okay so if you didn't a mortgage like because you won't have by the time you get off the phone you could put a thousand dollars a month back into this account right yes yes and in twenty months you'll be right back where you are okay yeah yeah sure yeah definitely definitely definitely I'm debt free today yes I love it Pete is in Georgia hi Pete welcome of the Dave Ramsey show APW on good how can I help so my wife and I put down from the house about two weeks ago right before all this craziness happened they were so close they portend and we both work for the airlines so yeah but it would wipe us out we've saved up from about three hundred grand to put down on the house but it would definitely put us down the three to six months and nothing more an emergency fund what do you do with the airlines pilot she replied then you work for yeah the Georgia okay Lana we've got you followed yet you know and they're not even talking about doing that yet really yeah they've they've said that's a last ditch effort they're gonna right well there couldn't lance lane so yeah yeah hello muscle clean because I'm I'm hoping that that you know kind of get found us last because the international side is not anything with that bill right now now after that's the worst depends on quick it by about how quick we get through this and it bounces back in which nobody knows I don't either I'm always a glass half full guy so I think it is going to happen faster than probably will and other people think it never will come back and of course that's stupid to show so you you you're scheduled to close and put three hundred thousand dollars down and that will still leave you how much in the bank well we're only gonna put about two fifty down and then that leaves a fifty grand okay that's your fifty and then your household income today is what around a hundred and fifty thousand take on and your payment on the house will be how much when you close about three thousand dollars a month on a fifteen year fixed well we are looking at a thirty year just because of this exact scenario yeah I would I would do a fifteen or I would not close okay because if you can't survive this scenario then you shouldn't clutch but when you can you can't you can't travel I will you can't half but say I'm gonna survive not survive the scenario so if you can't walk through this then you shouldn't close hi and that's what we're we're kind of prepared to walk away yeah today before close on twenty one what does your wife want to do what you want today she's on the fence she's kind of it depends on the day in the same way okay shuttled back and forth like yeah and I think I mean we can talk about this wait in the next two weeks and kind of see nothing certainly that would that would be why is our main and the other thing I could do is I would it is a brand new house no okay right you can wait two weeks obviously I'm sure you had a financial contingency but L. hind Omar I on oppressively and and you know you've got who was this job privilege I apologize another one they are trying very hard to break the Democrat party apart they are doing a socialist takeover of the Democrat party that is exactly what is happening here she addressed the issue dresses couple hours later she was asked about it she said I'm so incredibly in love with the movement that our campaign of hash tag not me US has created that's sick apparently Sanders campaign slogan I didn't even know that all this makes a protective Overton frustrated by tends to dismiss the straight the diversity of our movement so in other words she just got really really excited Hillary clin for her part says that Bob Bernie Sanders didn't do enough to help unite the Democrats after the twenty sixteen after she was nominated in twenty sixteen she told Emily tish Sussman unfortunately his campaign and his principal supporters were just very difficult to really constantly not just attacking me but my supporters all the way up until the end a lot of people highly identify with his campaign urging people to vote third party urging people not to vote so you got Hillary coming out saying that Bernie is fracturing didn't do enough to to to you know come on she wanted that house and everything I did as she did but I now but it is amazing to see what's happening in the Democratic Party right now there is a full on freak out about Bernie Sanders at this very moment winning Iowa winning New Hampshire they're scared to death normally you know you you you talk about this often merry but normally Democrats close ranks it's like whatever whatever the infighting might be doesn't really get to the public boy is it on display right now here's what I don't understand is it you know you've got it also the just wanna get this in here with your postal workers are the postal worker unions there's apparently a lot of them who who different unions represent postal workers okay the American postal workers union the APW you endorsed Bernie Sanders for that it's had for their nomination of about half a million full time employee excuse me they there this they're not the largest F. L. C. I. O. of the national letters carrier they're the largest part of the the postal workers unions but so this is a smaller one the APW you but they endorsed Bernie Sanders you've got Rahm Emanuel coming out in arguing that Bernie Sanders could work against the party in the general election if he doesn't reassure swing voters he's pretty Sanders one of the threats to the party right now is a rupture in the core it played out in twenty sixteen and he says that Sanders is the beneficiary of anger from Democrats especially a trump in from his base was angry to Hillary why do Democrats allow this socialist side of the party who run the party why are they allowing them to use the Democrat party to get a foothold in American politics and then take over their party why don't they throw them out AOC does want to pay her quarter of a million dollars today the the D. and say that she's supposed to tide yeah I just want to do it they're letting her get away with it why don't they throw her out I don't understand because as a hostage crisis in other words Nancy Pelosi can't if she tries to throw out the socialists she loses her speakership they lose the majority in the house so what they're trying to do is appease them play kick them silence them as not working no it never where it's not working and so as in the end all she's doing is kicking a Hornet's nest here and this is to be very interesting to see what happens in November but she let them drive for all the way through an impeachment process yeah she didn't even want to start the first place yeah I don't understand why she's allowing them to take over and just you Sir put the the Democrat party we're gonna talk to Joe Simons in for the Washington examiner eight thirty five about this later in the show it is now five fifty two fears L. rush bow politico says the Democrats are bracing themselves they're afraid that after trump loses in November he holds long goal a smooth handover of power he could sabotage the transition or he might not even accept the election results and agreed to leave forgot as Warren says it won't be an ordinary transition because she won't be able to assume good faith cooperation from trump a senior Obama official predicts that this will be the most hostile and the least professional transition in our history instead of hitting the ground running the new Democrat president we'll be on our thing buried bodies now the Democrats worry that trumps people will not meet with him coming team and that any paper trails left behind will not be trustworthy some fear the trouble quietly pushed through last minute initiatives to stymie the next administration's ability to tackle issues like immigration most concerned reports political or Democrats who deal with national security they're worried the trump stirs will weigh Bobby traps foreign trade a hamstring their foreign policy goals perhaps even with Iran now as amusing as this it was let me reassure you worry Democrats special you focus on us you're not gonna win there won't be a transition to a democratic president so take it easy your agenda for the next four years just sat to.

what's up Keith Hey what's going on Jay all is well may I guess what is coming up in September first Mundy what's going on first Monday in September Labor Day that is the day labor or do you know what the definition of labor is know what is the definition of let anybody that works for money I use the body to work for money so even if you're not in the union you part of a chameleon you you are community you're you know you're just you're going to work every day the Labor Day March in Detroit is for you the theme is labor and community moving forward labor and community moving forward and and the the head honchos in this is the metro AFL-CIO chains that soon was wasn't something okay well the got changed actually thank you yeah I yeah and and sells out to dear Newman president of the metro AFL CIO old great guy great guy I want to give him a shout out because he has been coming through pushing forward this Labor Day pray in other stuff we had a a strategic strategic meeting as well and we'll just talk about the things that need to be done in the in the future but let me get back to Labor Day Labor Day is very very important I say Labor Day parade that means script that is Labor Day marks I have B. as a key it and went to Labor Day parade so it's hard for me to here is some March that's all the the is in March we're going to go through there is going to let labor mark you're going to have to trade to going to have the a regular workers go have everybody to communities and actually you a W. went into negotiations last week yes for with a forty three winner for Chrysler and you the GLONASS as well they all when they all in a couple of days of each other they they are winning okay okay so I do will hopefully by Labor Day we got something good you know the biggest fight for them is the temp workers yeah you know if they did the bottom here's the bad part everybody so they got these guys company or these people these folks coming in working some of these folks have been work for this company not continuous yeah but like five years yes and they have not been made permanent workers they are still temporary workers that is I heard that is the biggest fight for them and frankly speaking I hope you a W. get get a deal for them because again it is so that the unions aren't just looking out for themselves right absolutely they won't they be like who cares about the A. workers that they get paid because I mean it's still collecting union dues from them so really it it doesn't make a difference from what I understand I could be wrong but I think he is there fighting for everybody there fighting for your children my children absolutely you know if I had to add but for them to be the kid to hop you know in in one of the arm places that the serve but yes so the Labor Day March it is a great place to meet our a lot of great people and also with that we're going to be talking more about that or an arm the labor vision podcasts that labor vision chi podcast can be found on Spotify Google play and iTunes in this call labor vision one word labor vision you look it up you see it that's the podcast lay revision and we also got to American workers first dot org and that is the you too S. take right to you too on both of those hit the subscribe and follow the more we get the better we do and dole shows both of those shows link into union members radio because we're always trying to get this on the news out there a lot of times we'll talk to somebody about a agreement or contract dispute by the time you members radio come on a Sunday it's been overweight or done whatever where is when you look at the podcast is in the YouTube videos you can actually see exactly what's going on good example is remembered the operator workers back all six ninety six couple years ago yes when he was saying they were on strike yeah they weren't on strike and that's where if you come to labor vision dot org American workers first out or were you members radio dot com you can get the truth yeah that they weren't you know they weren't on strike they got locked out yeah so that's the difference between him being on strike can be a locked out so you know also the trades for any of you all of that want a job you might want to look at the trade go to the union halls call you your hard to come up online I used to me up on the name so I'm not going to start naming any of them but they are always looking for print this keep in mind we have some buildings going up in the city that some pretty yes going to give some pretty good work and keep in mind for the city of Detroit so I want everybody to be clear on this the city of the tree does kind of bakes deals where he can get to residents on these jobs here's the problem most of the time they can't get residents because they they don't have enough people to live in the city that you know trained to be on a trade chain so if you live in the city of Detroit you might want to give them these are our trade to call and get into the apprentice program and make that a career yes keep in mind that's a lot of work is coming up in the city of Detroit in the next couple years and that's money you could be making and they are looking for great workers so please you know please don't go there if your if you've been probably door some you ought not be doing you might not want to you know create they are going to test you they are going to drug test you they are going to go through what they got to go through because they are professionals so the trades need apprentice so everybody I'm not just saying Detroiters but everybody that's interested in making a career and you don't want to go to schools to trace might be a place for you and if you use more curious about it come on out to Labor Day March and you see the trays March and you can sit back and talk with they're about becoming an apprentice all right so look at this interpolation they're here tonight they are here tonight as we think it starts tonight absolutely and it's gonna be here all week wow so there will be I will be attending the launching and the dinner on Wednesday so is Joe medicines must be speaking at that I'm not sure if chill medicine is thinking when I was I think I heard your number speakers a lot of the lot of those democratic nominees are going to be speaking as well aw was invited but his decline why did president trump to climb that's a good question well we got a call from Chicago from bin yes Benny Benny is from FIFA Hey Keith good how are you going I'm doing great I got a I got a notification on Facebook that you guys were live I just wanted to call in I was previously actually on the show not sure came there with you right now I'm sure she remembers me yes Kim Kim has been yourself I'm doing great I'm enjoying summer finally you know hit Chicago pretty late but join it had a little time off now because I'm not sure if you're familiar with that but we do know seminars all over the nation now it's a little bit slow time for us so I'm sure you're familiar with our company I your company is for the for the lovely folks in radio land FIFA have EFA yes Sir now is that a acronym yeah that employees first alliance hi there we go that's what I was good too yes I'm sorry I probably should be clear Hey time up in any Benny and at at a heated you getting gaze on doing your time also we want to congratulate thank you yep I got engaged on June fifteenth I'm a lucky guy it's it's been a blessing great great wow congratulations marriage is a beautiful name it is wonderful you are going to love it one eight Mary called me Keith we'll talk off line but you're a lot like J. yeah a couple and but don't don't call us to have you definitely need some pointers I know a lot of home or anything is not a home working well the happy wife happy life is this the saying I hear pretty off yes yes that is that is definitely the troll arm yeah yeah I must say yes to that that's seven def definitely his route you definitely want a happy wife happy life I think all of my other brothers and sisters out there all my brothers out to this merry will agree but you know what the the key to marriage is as long as you take care of each other that's really not absolutely and and is not fifty fifty is one hundred one hundred you had to pick your battles right absolutely all the time tell us about tell us about your details tell other people in radio land about your on your business and and who you help in high you helping why you help you know you get like a mention of wheat and we do seminars all the nation we actually do seminars at the union hall they're in Southfield so we were like a third party resource in our main objective is just to educate federal employees on their benefits since there's a lack of internal HR support which you know keep can vouch for that you know we want to optimize their specific situation so they can get the most out of their retired you know so we we kind of fill that gap since there's not much of an HR beside that call center which really isn't a good way to get a hold of this information so you know our business model relies solely on word of mouth marketing referrals social media you know which was upheld our level of service with a high standard right so we do the seminars all the nation we do one on one consultations with federal employees and now another reason I wanted to call no share some stories and how important the uniqueness bins but there's so many of these people and you know and then I want to just encourage your membership and then all you need participation what you guys are doing is great your education those all little about unions and others a lot of misconceptions out there so if you got the shot as well so doing all right well we appreciate that been AM we know fifth started out small in a grown to be pretty large and you guys are doing a great and great service to federal employees all across the country and we just want to say thank you you're welcome thank thank you kid you know I mean if it will go up in the for you I mean we we were you think you were one of the first union presidents out charges users actually nine back in what three years ago three years ago almost to the date three years ago is your person and gave me a call a an impromptu call them we spoke in now we were wanted at first yes APW locals to to bring you on yeah we we see each other soon we should have done our clientele want some results so what do you what do you tell these people to seminars what do you what do you what are you doing what a kitten out of the seminar for you when you talk to him what do you tell a well basically the main purpose is to educate them okay what their benefits are right a lot of them don't even know what they have they're paying for something that you need you know we obviously cop calculator pension right in the seminar we go over you know their place insurance we go over basically helping them transition to retirement and you know the seminar the consultations are a hundred percent three we don't collect anything just because again a lot of people are eligible to retire they don't even know what they've never seen the numbers and this is due to the lack of H. R. sport so let me get this straight so you actually work with real numbers without yeah yeah we we we get their attention we we the doctor all their healthcare premiums you know in the life insurance dental vision and we give them an estimate on what on the other tension they're supplement or social security comes out to just so they know they want to make sure like if they are deciding on retirement they want to see that number and compared to what they're making out make sure that you know all their ducks in a row and it makes financial sense well that yeah that that does make sense because first of all now I know you say is the estimate but is a really really close estimate because you're using their actual numbers or the closest numbers that you can get you know for today right yeah yeah you know we're we're we're using their salaries are high three average salary you know their years of service and it's a pretty pretty they'll call fast and to what they should be expecting so you know.
