"Average breech costs of $4.91 million. Relatedly, Kaspersky researchers have found a malicious UEFI based rootkit used in the wild since 2016 that get this keeps PCs infected even after an OS reinstall or a hard drive replacement. Because, quoting ars technica. The firmware compromises the UEFI, the low level and highly opaque chain of firmware required to boot up nearly every modern computer. As the software that bridges APC's device firmware with its operating system, the UEFI short for unified extensible firmware interface is an OS in its own right. It's located in an SPI connected flash storage chip, soldered onto the computer motherboard, making it difficult to inspect or patch the code. Because it's the first thing to run when a computer is turned on, it influences the OS, security apps, and all other software that follows. On Monday, researchers from Kaspersky profiled cosmic strand, the security firm's name for a sophisticated UEFI rootkit that the company detected and obtained through its anti virus software. Defined is among only a handful of such UEFI threats known to have been used in the wild. Until recently, researchers assume that the technical demands required to develop UEFI malware of this caliber, put it out of reach of most threat actors. Now, with Kaspersky attributing cosmic strand to an unknown Chinese speaking hacking group with possible ties to crypto minor malware, this type of malware may not be so rare after all. The most striking aspect of this report is that this UEFI implant seems to have been used in the wild since the end of 2016 long before UEFI attacks started being publicly described. Kaspersky researchers wrote this discovery begs a final question. If this is what the attackers were using back then, what are they using today? Kaspersky believes that this variant was active in 2020, and that in earlier version saw use between 2016 and mid 2017, and that both were written by Chinese speaking developers. The command and control servers used by both variants use domain names that remain dormant for long stretches of time during which the rootkit would be inoperable. Company researchers believe that means that while cosmic strand was designed to persist permanently on computers, the actual exploitation of those machines may not have lasted for more than a few months. Then again, the researchers said it may have been possible that the domains were periodically reactivated for short durations. Kaspersky detected the root kit running on computers in China, Vietnam, Iran, and Russia, all victims were running conspiracies free product in indication that targets may have been private individuals. Company researchers have been unable to identify any specific organizations or even industry verticals that were infected, researchers so far have been unable to determine the entry point that allows the root kit to get installed in the first place. Quay Ho three 60s report speculated that one infection may have been the result of a backdoor motherboard ordered at a secondhand reseller, but so far Kaspersky has been unable to confirm that. Would-Be Reagan Assassin Supports Gun Control

"Do you know what ABC did? I just saw something that almost brings me to my knees. They interviewed the man who tried to murder Ronald Reagan. Who destroyed the life of Jim Brady, who put the bullet in the stomach of a brave Secret Service agent. I don't even like to say his name. Because these people wasn't he the guy that was trying to vie for the attention of Jodie Foster wasn't that him, this desperate, pathetic, cowardly man who destroyed so many lives nearly killed Ronald Reagan. He's free as a bird now. He's gone. He's out. Gets to do whatever he wants. And he sat down with APC news and gave them an interview. Told ABC's nightline that he supports gun control. You think we're in a loony bin right now?

I'm Howard Solomon contributing reporter on cybersecurity for IT world Canada dot com. Security pros usually don't think an uninterruptible power supply box can be used as a cyber threat. But anything that connects to the Internet is a risk. The latest example are three critical firmware vulnerabilities found in APCs, smart UPS devices. According to security researchers at armis, if exploited the bugs could allow these backup power supplies to be taken over and damaged by cyberattackers. The damage could spread to connected sensitive devices like hospital equipment, industrial equipment, as well as servers. The bugs could also be used to break into corporate IT networks and install malware. Schneider electric, which makes the APC line has created a patch that needs to be installed fast. Right guys that we were talking about the economy and the wild week in the weekend, and we're a couple days away here from the election and so on and so forth. What else have we got? On the economic front? We talked a little bit about the election. We talked about Cove in 2020 asshole. It's a lot of negativity, So let's just let's talk about something. Positive. Some good news. Go for. Let's talk about the GDP numbers that came out on Thursday. Okay? Yeah. Yeah, that's ah, that that number's huge. I think the record GDP increase off to go back and research. This was seven or 8%. I mean, that's the all time record for GDP increase in a quarter increase your order in you and by this time because we're not a new show, So So you went up to the minute news you just going to Internet but 33. 0.1% holy moment of GDP. Is that nuts or, you know, I think that's gonna, you know, get the market really going on because durable goods orders were up this last Tuesday, and I think that was the precursor Teo on up substantially that to the 33% number. Coming into play because at one point they thought it could be as high as 37%. That's amazing, So so that really puts that's a telltale sign. I believe of what's to come. As we go into this next year, you you just cannot hold this economy down. And that's why you know, you know, he's a doctor, I think is it's Boche Achara hits the Stanford and get the big words today. I mean, I think this thing's like 14 18 metres long this the Stanford ensued. He's a senior fellow, he says. Look, lockdowns, you know. No lock down in history when it comes to the virus has ever worked. And so to think that we can lock down the nation and have people going to go about thes medical tests that we talked about cancer screenings and all that, then you end up with a bigger problem than he had in the first place. And I mean, look at Europe. They're a mess, and so let's get the economy back on track. Let's get things going. Let's get thes Ah therapeutics out to the folks. And and let's get this thing behind us. I think that's the one of the reasons a lot of people are nervous is is you hear about what Australia did? I mean, you're talking. It was a 111 day locked down the total lock. You couldn't even leave your house for more than an hour couldn't go more in that I was in Australia or New Zealand, Australia. Okay, Australia. New Zealand is pretty heavy stuff, too. Way can't do that. You just well, you cannot shut down this account me. You cant do that. That's why that's why this doctor here, Stanford Institute. Guy says Hey, look, lockdowns haven't worked. You can't lock down a virus. It's like trying to hold a baseball underwater. Okay. How long can you do that? Exactly A couple clients bring up to me yesterday. I'm very concerned about this because if Biden does get in, he said, I'm gonna listen to the scientists. What is Val Q saying right now about the Australian situation. Yeah. I think everyone would like way find certain will listen to the scientist. And so so, I mean, I wouldn't doubt that he would move right into a locked down and maybe on a selective basis, But he seems to be kind of more pro lock down and think found dead earlier this week. He was not in favor of mass mandate or least didn't see one coming anyway. Maybe I maybe I got that wrong. Yeah, well, the latest and greatest from from Fauci is that that he He's leaning back in that direction. And so I mean, it is a means it is, you know, you might see some random shutdowns. I mean, a lot of these happened to be tied to Who's your mayor? Who's your governor? That type of thing and Was he here? Here's the thing. When do these tests you know, in the APC over 40% are asymptomatic, You know, just like you know, the Kelly McEnaney. The press secretaries like I got it. I can't tell though its system and the other 40% of today are better in one or two days. It's like Trump, he added. 34 days later. It's like, okay, let's go Campaign. Can I get out of this hospital? And and so, so we're moving. We're moving in a direction I think is very positive here, You know. Are we gonna cure this thing over now? It's not gonna happen, but but I think we're getting there. And I think everybody should be just a little bit patient here. And well, well, there's somewhere we need to be. There is such a broad range of how people react to it. And sometimes we do put a little bit too much. Think stock and you know, vaccines and things. I mean, we have vaccines for things like malaria, but still half a million, you know, plus people die every year of it. So you have to take it with, you know, grain of salt and say it's not the be all end all and that's why we have to have regular life going and things of that nature because there's just too many. There's too many people and you can't keep something like that under complete lock down in control. There's no way to do it. You're trying to control something that's uncontrollable, uncontrollable. No question. Absolutely. Well, Ari. So folks stick around. We're going to talk about More financial stuff. We've covered quite a bit here, obviously, always day on the kind of current state of things If you will, and his rich pointed out, we're not a news show. So you know if you want to stay right up to the minute you can check in some of those other resources for that, But we're going to talk about some financial income gaps on the other side of the break. So if you're getting close to retirement or as you're thinking about it, you may encounter some of these income gap so Stick around for that. We're gonna have a conversation on some of those. There's probably more than you actually think so. Stick around. This is the rich Paul show 248305 99.

On on a 1500 square foot rental on a 20 year old air conditioning system. You're you're burning through what looks like to me. Gosh, north north of 222,500 K. W. I have to imagine the house's insulated very well. It's probably single pane windows. I don't know that you're going to be able to do much given it's a rental home are u S, R P E or A P S. Yes, we're S r P And we're on like the empower plan where you kind of pre pay. You know, I heard you talking about the super cooling, So I talked to them about that. And you can't really get on the time of day usage and also be on the prepaid plan, right? Right and a rental home. That maybe isn't insulated real Well, Is it a good candidate for super cool because it doesn't have the capacity to hold. The thermal energy. Um, I'm I'm I'm afraid, Brandon. Other than, um, That in a real home. There just isn't a lot you could do. Um you can't put the investments into a energy audit. Unless the landlord wants the landlord wants to, but their motivation would be very low, but boy pumping Pumping $400 a day bills for 1500 square foot home of $400 a month on 1500 square foot home. That's brutal that that's that's mean you And in a well built 1500 square foot home. You ought to be able to keep the temperature about 72 degrees for about half the money and wasn't like this last summer. So we just moved in in February, but I've lived in other rentals around the valley. You know, two story homes that are 3000 square foot and build aboutthe. Same. Yeah, I didn't know if maybe there's like a mobile swamp cooler or something like that. Maybe just bring that to whatever room and then shut the hell up altogether. You know, there's portable air conditioning unit you don't want to mix. Without cooling and air conditioning because that's going to make your air conditioning work even harder. It removes moisture from the air or as of APC ruling introduces moisture to the air, so it you're just going to make your air conditioning at work even harder, But There are a couple of Frigidaire, I think is one several manufacturer that comes to mind and it's ah, You've gotta have an exhaust for it. So whatever room you're in, you've got to drill a hole and somehow exhausted. Some of them come with kits where you crack your window open and a panel slips in there with the exit port. You plug it in there. And it'll cool one room at a time and You know, those do exist? Absolutely. And now they'll run you between 355 $100. You could install him yourself. You just plug him in and vent. Um, but they must be vented. That's a real health health hazard to run it and not have invented outside the house cooling. It's hot air exactly your home. But that might be one option for you, Brandon as Faras, maybe just keep in the master bedroom or the one key room you spend most time in We We have We own several of them. And when we're our computer room with the telephone, mounting board, they're serving all that. We've got one running in that room. Virtually 24 hours a day keeps that room down at 70 degrees. They worked real well, it'd be a lot financially would be a lot better investment than a mini split. Many splits are good at cooling smaller areas, but that would be harder to take with you exactly. I wish I had better news for you,.

"Welcome to another remote dish of the TECH TO I. Am Your host Tyler Meccas. Today I have the pleasure of chatting with Tim. He's the National Account Manager for ABC. Hey Tim Dollar Tim. Obviously we're in the midst of the covy nineteen pandemic and I noticed. A lot of customers are really focused on getting up and running remotely and really just making sure that their businesses are continuing to run. They're also interested in laptops. Vpn's in headsets as well. But we don't want these. It folks to forget about the Backbone Infrastructure Right House. Abc helping customers remotely manage their infrastructure. Keyword there being the back right in something that people don't really think about but it's absolutely mission critical to keep those laptops running and keep the headsets provide phone calls right so ABC. We were for physical infrastructure products. Mainly UPS's coin devices and they met see on types customers on times. Don't have proactive strategy for these batteries. They kind of just react when they fail. And especially the summer buds coming up storm season right around the corner a lot of times. People like these batteries when they failed they bring down the entire network which causes all employees difficulties. Album will talk about really quick. How remotely manage these batteries to make sure that you don't have these unwanted and unexpected failures come your way so with that never ends regards? You put in the back of these units and I definitely recommend that you have out there backing up a network switch connected to the network remotely see what's going on with that. Ups wanted shift customers from a reactive standpoint. Batteries to Proactiv one and whether we're doing it is through a remote management software also known as decent data center infrastructure management and that software allows the customer. See all of their. Ups's Alder Coin Devices any type of physical threat management sensors that they have out there onset choice plus very good. Tim Is there any other way that ABC's helping customers remotely during this current situation? Yeah definitely so say you have a battery in Iowa and your your. It staff sets in New York getting on airplanes. Right now is isn't a great idea. So we do have a program called monitor this batch it would. That is where we leverage our locally. Dc technicians to go out to any of your sites that might have a battery failures that you're technician does not fly across the country just to change battery there. So bamadoro dispatch programs.

"Coming at ya every single day if you are a brand new listener i suggest going going back to the beginning i know i start out rough but i get better and better as i learned the dictionary and it's it's a journey we're going on together i word for this episode is apache capital a. p. a. c. h. e. this is a noun from seventeen zero three one a a member of a group of american indian peoples of the southwestern u. s. to any of the athabasca languages of the apache people all athens baskin i think i pronounced that correctly is spelled AT h. a. b. s. c. a. n. the three definitions are not capitalized so here we have three eight a member of a gang of criminals especially in paris that's interesting three three b we have these synonym ruffin r. u. f. f. i a. and a patch ian is an adjective or a noun next we have a word that i'm afraid i'm going to pronounce incorrectly it is spelled a. p. a. n. AG and it could be either appanage or appanage i'm guessing those are the two most likely pronunciations but it is a variation of the same word but with two peas instead of one and of course because it is a variation of another word it's not telling me how to pronounce it because i could just skip ahead to the actual word and find that out but that's not really how i'm doing this podcast next we have operato APA apa r. e. j. o. this is a noun from eighteen twenty eight a pack saddle of stuffed leather or canvas a pack saddle is all one word and this is an american spanish word opera rayo next we have the word apart it's the first form of to this is an adverb from the fourteenth century one a at a little distance synonym is tried to keep apart from from the family squabbles one be away from one another in space or time as in towns twenty miles apart to a as a separate unit synonym is independently as in viewed apart his arguments were unsound to be e so as to separate one from another as in founded hard to tell the twins apart three excluded from consideration synonym is aside as in a few blemishes apart the novel is excellent for in or into two or more parts to pieces synonym is coming apart at the seams now we have the second form of apart it's an adjective from from sixteen eighty one we have these synonyms separate and isolated as in those athletes are a breed apart to holding different opinions synonym is divided apart and this is a noun now we have apart from it's a preposition from seventeen twenty four the definition is other than and in that case van is t. h. a. n. not not h. e. n. and then we have the synonyms besides and except for now we have apartheid a. p. a. r. t. he h. e. i. d. this is a noun from nineteen forty seven one racial segregation specifically a former policy let's see of segregation and political and economic discrimination against non european groups in the republic of south africa to we have these synonyms uh-huh separation and segregation as in cultural apartheid or gender apartheid vis is an afrikaans word taking the word part which is the same in english plus the suffix hide eighty ide- which means hood h. o. o. d. this is obviously a very big deal if you're not familiar with it it's definitely something to look into and be aware of the host of the daily show trevor noah he grew up in south africa in the nineteen eighties and his parents were mixed white and black a european a an african however you wanted describe that and so technically because of apartheid he was illegal it was illegal for his parents prince to have a mixed race child and so he had to be very careful about being in public very sad story i think he wrote a book about it and i've heard a couple couple of interviews with him talking about that a little bit so i i highly recommend that i'll see if i can find an interview on youtube or something and put that in the episode description next next we have the word apartment it's a noun from sixteen forty one one a room or set of rooms fitted especially with housekeeping facilities and usually least as a dwelling to a building containing several individual apartments apart mental is an an adjective now we have apartment building it's a noun from eighteen forty five a building containing separate residential apartments called also also apartment house now we have apartment hotel it's a noun from eighteen seventy four a hotel containing apartments as well as accommodations for transients next we have apathetic it's an adjective from seventeen forty four one having or showing little little or no feeling or emotion synonym is spiritless to having little or no interest or concern synonym in is in different and then a synonym for both definitions is impassive i m. p. a. s. s. i. v. e. apathetically pathetically is an adverb next we have apathy a. t. h. y. it's a noun from fifteen ninety four one lack of feeling or emotion synonym is impassive nece to lack of interest or concern synonym is indifference this is from the greek apathetic or apathy his which means without feeling and that is from combining a plus pathos which means emotion and there's more at the word pathos next we have appetite a. p. a. t. i. t. it's a noun from seventeen eighteen ninety four any of a group of calcium phosphate minerals occurring in various colors as hexagonal crystals as granular masses or in fine grain masses as the chief constituent of phosphate rock and of bones and teeth especially calcium phosphate fluoride bride so no this is probably not the word appetite you're thinking of which has two ps and maybe it's an e. instead of the second a i'm not sure and i'm not gonna go look but this is a different word the etymology says this is from the german appetite which is from the greek passe say again pronunciation bad and that means deceit d. e. c. e. IT next we have a pat soroush it's is a noun from a eighteen seventy eight and we have these synonym brontosaurus i thought we got rid of the name brontosaurus so maybe maybe we replaced it with a pat soroush but if that's the case i kinda thought that they would have just gotten brought to source out of the dictionary altogether and then there would have i've been a description of an patta sawers here but this is combining the greek apetit which did we just read that deceit that's what we read an appetite it's the looks like it's the same word with the same accent on the e- plus the word soros which means lizard so does that mean a lizard that deceits or maybe we were deceited by this lizards bones which we called brontosaurus but it's really an i don't know i'm going off the rails all right next we have a PB all caps this is an abbreviation for all points points bulletin you've probably heard this on a cop TV shows or films next we have a PC and i think this will will be the last word for this episode it is all caps it's a noun from nineteen fifty to an armored vehicle used to transport military military personnel we get ABC from armored personnel carrier the word of the episode is going to be apartheid because is in my mind.
