"Team as well the federal team So we all put of anton and without approval and obviously the objective and the processes. We have in place to protect the community of being critical. And that's being the most important thing we got that right and we had the processes approved that was. We're gonna get right. We get if we get that right at the end of the end of next week. That is the major battle and then it is having the event and opening having some crowds that come but we can get to the end of this and a few things one we could signal to the rest of the will that he is. Melvin is the sporting capital of the will because they attempted to put on a global sporting event with the with over thousand athletes in their teams coming into one city in quarantine for forty days competing for eighty three million dollars over four weeks And we achieved that. I think grant again is going to be a lot of other Sporting franchises and and businesses looking as an entertainment ones. And say you guys do it and can we do it a similar way. What easy place to do. So so that's really what you're looking to achieve but also to provide the players with an opportunity to make a really good living and to support their careers and eighty three million dollars of prize money and being able to have an event is very significant in this current pandemic. We didn't know that we will be running. We running the event that would be at the height of the pandemic globally which we really are to climb as well but from perspective everything we doing business we can on the processes and And and would protect the health and set and we'll be in the community and And now to get the plays up and ready to go craig. Thanks for your time and all the best until we speak again. Perfect thank you thanks. John australian open tournament director. Craig tyler joining us on the show with such an unusual late into the australian open speculation over the tidal contenders is wide open. Hotel quarantine makes preparing for a grand slam all the more challenging according to form a top. Forty pro nicole pratt. But she's told the. I show the prospect of getting back on court should be a powerful incentive. I think the players are gonna be overwhelmingly excited to be out the playing. We saw in twenty twenty so much of the year. They weren't able to play so all would side definitely on the women's side because the women didn't have as many tournaments as the men towards the back end of the odd side. They're all jumping out of their skin and yet they're being dealt some tough cards in regards to what they normally do but at the same time. I think they're going to be super appreciative of the opportunity. That tennis australia is providing arena. Sebel anchor is the informed player heading into the first slam of the year. The bill russian is on a fifteen match winning streak recently adding a third consecutive title and abu dhabi in a draw that included. I o defending champion sophia kenan. And runner-up gotta be near. We'll go rufa. Well she's going to give yourself the best chance in my opinion like when i call it kind of a wave and you have this wave of confidence when when you keep winning and it becomes normal to win and so i would say someone like zab lanker in the posse had some doubts self belief self belief. Say she's giving yourself every chance to alba go further in a grand slam further than the fourth-round for sure but it all starts for me at a grand slam in the first round in eighty. Get posture first round and then go on from name match after match other contenders looking for their first taste of grand slam success include caroliina please gavaa andolina fifth alina but there are a handful of former major champions looking to add melbourne to their swag including mugara and simona halep pratt believes the twin late in events could have a significant impact on players momentum. Heading into the the president comes to my mind is like serena as in once she gets into this rhythm of winning matches then then it's scary whereas sometimes i feel like in a grand slam like the toughest matches were sometimes with the first second rounds and so she will apply this late up tournament if she used to get a lot of matches their. That's kind of different for her. So yeah it'll be interesting to see how everyone with. The different scenarios qualifying for the wti. Five hundred events gets underway at melbourne park on january. Thirty one novak djokovic has returned to australia as the favourite for the men's championship bidding for a record not the strategy and open crown. Speaking from his hotel commented nick macabre believes the serbs command. Millburn poc is tantamount to rafael on the dolls. Fifteen year domination of roland. Garros you still have to say that chuck rich is the favourite just because of his record and i'm recalling last year in twenty twenty actually getting to watch the men's final as a fan and You know the crowd was really cheering on dominic thiem and it felt like the momentum was on team side. And it's just finds that the joko gear whatever gear that is the other players don't possess it and it's hard to argue that really from a cerebral perspective. Maybe you could use your heart to to argue for your favorite player but djokovic does feel like the favorite for sure but macabre ablaze russia's top. Plaid daniil medvedev is capable of upstaging jackovitch and becoming just the second man born in the ninety s to win a major title. The twenty four year old finished. He's twenty twenty wins in paris and the atp finals taking down the top three players in the world along the way he beats rafa he beats nola heats dominic thiem method of. I think had a little bit of a fit and start a couple years ago when he had a great summer and then didn't sputter but obviously made the us open final loss to rafa. I think he's really earned his stripes. I think that he has now matured a lot. Jill samara has been so effective for him on court. It's been a such a player to watch. It's cerebral it's fun it's funky. It's frustrating for his opponent And that's why. I'm i'm backing him to win the title. But gosh if that was our final and medvedev's going to be a top four seat if that's our final Pass pass me a couple of buckets popcorn. Because i'm in for it. Meantime young guns hubert hurkacz in local hope. IMG's Max Eisenbud on 2021 Tennis
"Everyone john wartime here hoop everyone well into this week. Sports illustrated ten podcast. Welcome back to this week's guest max eisenberg. He's the head of m tennis one of the real power players in tennis. We spoke to max earlier this year when there was so much swirling uncertainty Can a little less uncertainty recently up. A number of you wrote in then about how much you liked perspective. You were surprised. By how unfiltered he was figuring. We would check back in with max on this day. In early december we learned that yes there will be a twenty twenty one australian open To go it's been pushed back three weeks. There's a quarantine. it is still unclear. What will happen to the events that preceded and The events that are now being superseded in the calendar and february but the australian open looks like it is on. I can redo an email that Craig tyler descent to players that that made. It tweeted me Quote we know. It hasn't been easy for anyone in tennis. We will also pay for charter. Flights player and entourage. Quarantine cops meals and accommodations player. Combination will be covered for their entire. Stay will pay the full. Seventy one million dollars in prizemoney were working with tours on a redistribution with large increases in early rounds likely first-round parts of one hundred thousand dollars. Obviously tennis. australia can't do that without considerable financial paint. It won't be easy cove. Nineteen is hurt us financially this year similar to everyone else's experience but we think it's critical for global tennis the player group in the fans at the ao proceeds to help stave off any atrophy in our sport So that That some good news coming out of melbourne And i'm sure there will be a lot of Happy players fans coaches everyone else in the tennis infrastructure So mac tonight talk about that. That been a breaking news. At happy to breaking news what can players expect We talk about how. Kenneth has held up in this strange ear. Why he doesn't like the t. As china policy wide ranging conversation about tennis in twenty twenty and looking forward to next year this strange Rotation around the sun So here from his home. Office in florida maximum. All right thanks for. Thanks for stopping by how you doing. Good i think is good as you can be in this world. We speaking of good. We are a few hours removed from this. I don't know if it's an official announcement but a quasi-official announcement. There will be an australian open. Looks like it's going to start every eighth three weeks of pushback from your perspective. Good thing bad thing. When did you hear what do you make of this announcement. I mean i think it's whenever you can play. You know it's a good thing. And i think the tennis world Has done a pretty good job of trying to play and keep the players safe I think the us open the catalyst. And i think or probably appreciating more. Now what the. Us open did seeing how difficult it has been with the australian open. So i think i think the. Us open really started. Everything engage some confidence players. and then You know and then you know what's happening with. The australian open is is pretty incredible minutes many every day. Something new You're at the mercy of the government and You know players have concerns like they should And there's some pretty strict quarantine common in australia. I mean some of those That's pretty tough. I mean and you know way different than the. Us open the us open really created a bumble. A look like the players were like going to camp. You know they're playing cards and having fun and and stuff. And i don't see that way you're in australia. So what are you gonna the takeaways from all this is the it's trillion government doesn't mess around. What what. What are you telling your players. But i imagine they're calling frequently for updates telling them be ready keep training keep working You know in every day. It's something new. We're trying to keep everybody updated in real time And that's players coaches parents. Lot of anxiety. I you thought your company. You had to get ready really quick because the i was you thought you were going to need to leave on december fourteenth and that was eating up people didn't know when do i take my vacation. Especially the guys that were playing late on now all of a sudden you're not rushing. It's it's even later so you know. Tennis players are creatures of habit. I mean they have you know so this has been very a lot of anxiety for the players.
Android Ostracization - Snapdragon 888
"To kickoff. Finally after weeks of there being practically no news. We are excited. 'cause we've got a bunch of news talk about and i is project mainline Which is likely to get a new module and android twelve and get a big one at that art android runtime. A google engineer reveal the plan a comment within with an sp build This is the default runtime on android says two thousand fourteen us application and system services on android and basically translates an apps code into instructions and like other mainline modules. This would be a major component. That is then updateable via the play store and not requiring a full system update. So i mean this is one of those underlying under the hood. Things that like could fundamentally change the way android works which is fascinating. And if you're into this sort of stuff but then also in some other revolutionary android discoveries thanks to commit to the ao sp or the android open source project. There are plans to allow fonts and emojis to be updateable outside of full upgrade. Which is how it's handled now and note that these commits haven't been merged in yet so it's impossible to know whether this change will make its way into android twelve and it's probably say this is better late than never because he updating emojis wouldn't be something tied to a system update But here it is and more and more. We see things kind of disconnected from the system update from the full version update and being able to be updated via the play store and through kind of individual minor updates. Jason this i mean. Is it hyperbole to say this potentially changes a lot when it comes to android. It certainly moves in that direction. I mean i've loved the promise of main line and before it trouble of which is still active but mainlines the one that i get really excited about right now. The the potential of that You know for the last couple of years that it's existed my concern or my worry when i when i was first introduced was okay. This sounds great in theory. But yeah we'll see what really happens but year after year. It seems like google is really Placing a lot of effort in tackling these core fundamental aspects of the android operating system. That are underlying everything that that you do. And so it moves us closer to a world where android you know is updateable by and large most of these really major core components updateable through a an update on the play store. Instead of requiring an update. And that's kind of the promise of of mainline. And i just i love that. They're continuing to kind of build upon this. It really does did feel necessary if felt a little late because this is something that we've been complaining about for years the fact that you know. Updates are so reliant upon The or the the carriers everybody's got their hands in it and that all slows everything down this allows certain elements to speed up and to still be updated for people's phones to not be so so reliant upon those system updates because like we know very well you know a lot of. Oem's don't care to do the big system update so at least at least we're getting some of these updates somehow and i think art you know android runtime that's a. That's a pretty major component of android that hints. I hope anyways that hints at other major components being tackled in the future. Yeah i mean it seems like this. I must say disenfranchise. But that's not the right word but disengaging of these core components into the system. Update you know. Were really what then. You'll see when a new version is released. It is just the framework or the skeleton and the the components that go into that skeleton will be the ones that can be maintained from release to release Which when you think about it as much it's it's a it's a less bloated system. Update it's a less you know it's it's a then you have the the situation for more because the whole trend in The over the i mean how many years now maybe two or three years now has been iterative updates right the days of a massive like pretty much since mott wants material design role that i forget. What version has since that rollout has been of it has been a slow evolution versus a major. You know everything's different now. Meanwhile while everything everything is different now is a lot more fun to talk about. A slow in iterative is probably safer and leads to better development so this is probably smarter decisions so and then you know on the flip side of this emojis. Updateable without an update. Which i mean you know i. I could make jokes about that. Flows not here to defend emojis of course She probably would be if she were here. But still that's you know that's just another another aspect if that ends up being and and i'm actually this news doesn't necessarily point to that being updateable via main line but it certainly points to it being updateable the less updates which is the way it is now so one could. Maybe you know Imply that that's maybe the direction that is going whether it's using mainline or not. I still think that's a pretty pretty good move to be. Because i mean as we know emoji is is is changing often. You know there's often changes to it so having to wait for the update for people who love their emoji. That's going to be a big deal. Maybe they won't even notice. Actually but i would imagine they'd be happy that they have a new emoji right when it happens other news here. The snapdragon tech summit digital event is happening. it's a two day event at started today. and qualcomm is now teasing. Its next major flagship chipset so based on the brink convention you know a fifty five eight sixty five we would expect eight seventy five. No no no. They teased the eight. Eighty eight so it's unclear whether the eight hundred eighty eight is like more premium than the eight seventy five that they haven't announced yet that i don't even know exist. Just totally speculating. Or if eight eighty eight is kind of the replacement the new one All in we will find out about that You know as we go further but It includes a snapdragon x sixty five g modem so that of course supports millimeter. Wave and sub six

A.O. Scott on the Work of Wallace Stegner
"Were some of those big questions that stagner wrestled with in his writing the segments such a fascinating writer for one thing, and I don't really get into into the peace, but he really spans generate. I don't think there are that. Many writers who cover quite the same amount of time as he does, so he he's born in nineteen o nine and grew up in various places around the western United States to Seattle Salt. Lake City not just the United States schedule on, but he started writing in the thirties is first. Four novels were published in the thirties and kept writing and kept going up until his death in. In nineteen ninety-three, the big novels that people tend to read the to that that are probably the most red angle of repose and crossing to safety are from the seventies and eighties. And he already had you know four or five decade career behind him. At that point, you know it's almost a cliche to think of him as a Western writer because he taught at Stanford for many years, he founded the creative writing program. At Stanford, the creative writing fellowships still bear his name there. A lot of his nonfiction is about the West about ecology about the settlement of the West. He wrote a really fascinating book in the forties called Mormon country about Utah Settlement Utah. Conflicts between Mormon and Non Mormon? Population and native Americans there, so the West is kind of his big theme, but it's always in opposition to the Western as we think been in movies or in popular Western literature sort of the mythology the west so. The whole idea of cowboys and railroad man. Rugged individualists, the whole myth of. Western expansion Western settlement something that he's always looking at from a very critical angle. When we think about this idea of like the great American writer and the Great American novel, which is probably all just a false notion, while the feels like in many people's minds like a terrible. Oh, that people know of Wallenstein. They, know the title usually angle of repose and crossing to safety both books that sold very well as in addition to being critical success says. But he's not one of those people that's on the curriculum. For example you said in your essay that he's the writer that you come across on shelves of books where you like you rent a cabin for the summer, and there are inevitably a copy or two of worn paperbacks of his novels, and and and that's the way I came across stagner. What is his reputation in the country? Did he get the recognition that he deserved I think in his lifetime. He was pretty well. We won or was a finalist for most of the major awards Pulitzer in the National Book Award, and he he was a very powerful and important figure in the world of creative writing. I mean the the the list of his students you know includes Berry. Edward Abbey Tillie Olsen Robert Stone Larry. mcmurtry Ken Casey so the people who pass through Stanford and were stagner fellows. There is part of legacy in American writing. Kind of off to the side of whether people are still reading his books, but but I think there is this interesting status where it's not that he's obscure, forgotten neglected, but he's feels a little bit. Marginal to me a little bit, maybe unassimilated.
My favourite tennis match
"We'RE GOING TO BE KICKING OFF. A new series and looking at some of a favor owed time tennis. Matches will also be catchy on the tennis news as well a little bit catch on with the virtual Madrid Open. That's just happened Andy. Bari Packard a virtual school as well as the news. The tennis is actually starting up again in some parts of the world in Germany. But before we get into that Kim how you doing. How is how is lockdown? Treating much the same as last week H. O. By fairly fast actually despite the lack of store which is really weird. I think I've kind of just go used to it now but having said that I did cheat in worship Madrid. I didn't won't should awful. I have to say it was. Radi my cup of tea just kind of saying it on a playstation today. What is g thing? Yeah it was a bit of kind of a completely new scenario new situation and I think it's kind of recognizes that living in these times they can open up new opportunities and of course you know this is one of them in the tennis world and I thought it was kind of really interesting to say I think in terms of what I liked. I absolutely loved the place. Be BUYING INTO IT. And procreating like the war codes Up there that the herbs to the controller I really loved that I'd like pretending to warm up thumbs and I really liked the way that kind of the players go invested in it and we're kind of really enthusiastic about getting creative and and kind of showing it off on on social media See I think that was kind of one of the things I I really liked. I saw I think it was Belinda. Bench really went. Allow it like a tennis gear. As I said could walk up the stairs a yeah just thought it was great to see getting really enthusiastic about it. 'cause we've not seen them on a TV. We're not seeing the you know what she pilots. Whatever as fans over the last few months it's just almost kind of great great to see them again really. Yeah I thought that was. That was good like the best saying the players saying the engage with the wall. I thought bench probably owned that one. I just like the little bits in the corner. We can just see their faces as they're playing. You just want to see their homes in the pack right to see what what. They've gone like their bookshelves or like. I just find it really interesting is like through the Keyhole. But he the past and that is really hyping. The stands framed in the background. Well potentially coming up in this focus on his lovely shorts but no yeah I. I didn't really like actually watching this. Nsa Watch just liked having the players kind of interacting having a bit of a laugh so that was nice to see the thing. This format would. I didn't think I'd want to see this every week. I think it would get a bit repetitive. After a while but I think it was a good kind of one off thing and obviously Andy Murray one that we should give him credit for that because he's now won the tournament on three different surfaces. If you can cool the virtual sphere surface adolphus. The Andy has donated his prize. Money half is going to the NHS and half is Gordon to the players Relief Fund. So it's obviously for Good Kohl's and Kiki burdens won the women's event as well and I think she was actually due to defend. Muhtar to say she has succeeded into that are mixed in our love. I love that idea. She's she's the non virtual virtual back to back very innovative. Double D for a champion. But yeah I think yes kind of great to see I guess. Play his Getting involved I think one of the things that I think they could have done. Better way of is the had this common tree over the top of the of the players. Now I I was kind of the point where I think it's more insightful. And more interesting if you just let the play is very commentary because Y- They are tennis players that professionals at the end of the day you'll be ready. I think what bringing up level is kind of almost kind of getting them to kind of talk about the tactics or you know that sort of that sort of level that sort of layer that. Yeah well my sick on a Royal Corps And it's like if I was doing this show in real life. I would choose to go here because of X. Y. And Said Yeah. It could be more of an educational thing as well I think what I did. I cheat and they lost connection because I was watching on light-years addicts correct show. It was just having to could LE- sort of chats while they were waiting for everything to ten on again. Did you see the I think Diego Schwarzer was best. Play at Deborrah. The savvy FIDO's but due to a weak WIFI CONNECTION. Debry a sorry. Schwartzman had to concede walkway. So I mean I love that idea. The like I think that's going to be one of the VAD. The walkover reasons happens to the best of our good today that like even top tennis players have poor Wi fi and all safely on. La has had a bit of a Jake because he said that Rafa could play because he'd like injured his back reaching for his game controller. Which and everyone believes here. I think I mean I think we believed him as well. As we've always believed tweeted about be cowed they gig for Geria- saw and I thought this this off to the best of the fortunately that was not the case. Rafeh was able to play. But we'll just very gullible but yeah if they're going to do this again like I think it could cost you on. But just every now and again maybe they do in other Walden on like Wimbledon. I different surfaces. I assume this playstation game has all the different surfaces they do girl scout one. Couldn't they maybe federal workup? That yeah that I think it could work. I think it could coexist when the tools get back up and running. I wonder if it's a sort of you know in the in the grounds of the events and you have fans can go line up for like an autograph from players and I wonder whether you could be like. There's a stand somewhere grandson for example. Oh face off against some. I player playing tennis against them. Virtually Sake I could see that happening. I know there are a few comments. The game was almost up to like up to scratch And you know whether it's the improvements to be made with with the game and you know I think I think potentially peop- governing bodies like the ATP liked the W. H. E. A. Maybe they should be looking at partnering with Game's about to really kind of Mak- licensed game like fever. Because I think you know I think this is as you said. This is very new is almost kind of this was a test and you know. I think there is appetite for it but I think there's almost kind of a lot can be done on that so a product side of it. Yeah for sure. I'm sure that's an avenue. They could possibly see going for. It's an yeah I like the idea that you could maybe have a bit of a play on it while you are an event. Old won the opening set in a tiebreak but Kenan stormed home with a wet sale to win six seven six three six love. I mean she's having a great year and everything so I knew it was gonna be a tough match. It's it's not easy playing a fellow American but I'm just happy to on through golf. Exhibiting a maturity beyond her years. Yeah at a lot of fun. The crowd was really uh-huh rooting for me in. I mean I had a great tournament and I'm looking forward for doubles tomorrow. I mean I was disappointed. I lost obviously But I don't really think doc anything with Naomi or my previous matches had anything to do. I think and naturally when I lose. I'm just a bit emotional courtney new in from the WTI has is told the show Kenan deserve so time in the spotlight as Sophia Cannon. A player who finish the year as the number two American. She was tied with Ash. Bardy for the number of hardcore wins last season and won three titles and yet nobody was really talking about it very much. Despite the fact that she had become one of the most dangerous players on the tour she knocked out Serena Williams from wrong girls last year so she came into this tournament as a legitimate threat. We were all keeping an eye on her but against cocoa. Gov What we've seen is that it's it's difficult to play a fifteen year old. There's is a little bit of that stress of not wanting to lose to a youngster and especially as an American but Sephiha contemplated a perfect match just minimize errors. Drop that I set what was able to come back Jack and really just took away from cocoa golf and reasserted herself and then maybe now is when the the Kennan hype machine begins because she has absolutely done everything that you can possibly. We do to deserve it. Quarterfinals Taylor last year. In Two thousand twenty six it you'll shortages. Path of destruction has continued this time at the expense of Marin Chile the thirty second state extinguishing the flame of the twenty eighteen runner up seven five six four seven six. The was unfortunate. I had some problems with my back that that just started in the second round appear the next month against motifs. That didn't help as well to play for our so today just felt it and and I was not a hundred percent with my serving but still You know Meals played unbelievable tennis. And he's just showing that he's in great form maybe the best form I've seen him during his career and and You know from my own opinion and middle playing against him. I feel he's Has A has a really good chance to win the tournament. The lumbering Canadian. Five down an incredible thirty thirty five aces for the match. There's a lot of other things. I think I'm doing well at this point so regardless if it was the comeback if I can get that I serve Kevin I think I put myself in a good position. I think moving while I think I'm taking The first opportunity to be aggressive. I think I'm doing those things well and I'm always putting pressure so it definitely makes it easier. If I can come up with ace but you know I know I can back it up after that as well. It's a new dawn for having been plagued by injury for years has finally League straps in body and mind when you do step out on the court especially. I don't know how long I can play healthy for and these kinds of things I haven't done it in a while. Hopefully this. This time I have found the answers in the solutions but I WanNa give myself the best chance so I gotta take care of not only my body to I gotta take care of the mind and make sure I'm in the right state of mind that every time I step out on the core I give myself the best possible opportunity. The Canadian booked in a fourth round clash with defending champion Novak Jock Itch. Who took care of Diego? Schwartzman in straight-sets feels great. They had a fantastic Couple matches in a row center court. Last two rounds rounds of I've felt more confident going through the ball hitting serves really well. Today was a good test because Diego was informed orm having dropped a set. He has dropped the set in three rounds. So you know. Obviously he can be a very dangerous opponent from the baseline. If you give him time I knew that and I stepped out on the court with a clear game. Plan what I need to do and I think I kept things Pretty Much in control and all three sets and all in all it was a very solid fund tennyson grenades back into the last ice in Melbourne after winning four set tug of war against Fabio Feeney. He spent an average match time of more than three and a quarter hours on court. Seemed like he's having some blister issues as well as his play. Dropped a little bit to start the force of sorry the second set It wasn't just my good play was got four zero so it's one of those you know it's a roller coaster with him. Sometimes you know. Sometimes you're just a passenger with what's going on. He doesn't play well and then all of a sudden he's playing the amazing and you're kind of stuck with your hand your pockets like shoot. I'd like to play tennis too out here. So just that that second set was kind of quintessential Fabio with how how it can go down. Sandra now faces Roger Federer who came back from sit down to Bait Hungarian Martin. Savage in four sets was. That's a tough start. I thought that Martin play clean a struggle to the rest of the match. Course I give me a beatdown down from the baseline so maybe it took my confidence away a little bit and just took some time. I was looking into maybe mix it up a little bit more gets gets really slow in nighttime especially in his cool like this so just have to figure it out and finally found a way at a good start of the second set and from then on things go to the bit easier Other results women's top seed ash body defeated Alison riske six. Three one six six four avenging. Her Two Thousand Nineteen Wimbledon lost cost to the American both tons of played. Alison have been tough matches. I've been in a position where I put myself in. The position I was in a winning position wasn't able to kind of go on with it and I think to not it is important to get off to a good start. A bit of a disappointing second set rose a little bit loose and just pressed a bit too much but Very proud of the way that will kind of able to to bring it back in the third and go back to the patents at all. Wants to play body now has a quarter-final rematch with Petrick. UVA who booked spot in the last night with a testing three-set win of Maria Sakari played a great match today and I think mentally for me was very tough today but I think in the end of the day mental overthrow strong side for me. And that's helped me to win. The seventh seeds Karch yeary Vanik shedding. Some light on their working. Relationship just was focused on her game and she needs to her aggressive on let Maria like little bit. She liked dangles and she liked to open you. US Open not even just playing against Miami but the whole tournament. I think I was on edge and I had the three siders in the first first two rounds of US Open. And I think that was just dealing with all the media and I feel like now. I'm more playing just having fun and on mean. Winning is the Cherry on top. But I'm honestly having fun on the core. Even in those tight situations shellshocked Asaka at a loss to explain what went wrong. I don't know I just feel tie. And there's always like WCHS such a huge hype leading into the match and of course it's like well deserved the tough. You don't want to lose to a fifteen year old you know That's for me like a reality check. it doesn't really matter the age of the opponent and Everyone of course she deserves to be here. When you watch her playing at her best I mean she can still beat anybody that is in front of her and I think it comes down to harnessing all of that desire all of that emotion I mean? She has been the best in the world of tennis at harnessing her motions in difficult situations to pull herself out of it. Sometimes it's a little tougher when you want to win so badly so I think it's just about her finding a way to relax finding that balance on court where she super super competitive the way we expect to be but also relaxed enough to play her best tennis but the thirty eight year old belief she still has what it takes to win another major. I it definitely do believe or I wouldn't be on tour. I don't play just to have fun into lose. By the giant killing owns Jabber in a fitting three-set tussle on Melbourne arena. Jabbour led I'd buy a set and a break before wasn't yacky mounted. A classic fought back bought. It was the Tunisian. Yeah well don't have much experience a little bit nervous especially the The last set she she plays hopefully villain sheeran's really good so really. I'm really happy that I played you. you're such an inspiration for for me and for many players and I like enough to onto her with your wozniacki struggling to contain her emotions in her post-match interview I think it was only fitting that last match would be at three center at Grinder and that I would finish my career with the four hundred air. I I think those are the things that I've been working on my whole career. And you know this was just meant to be gender Ruben telling the show it was a first time interviewing retiring player on court. I think that must have been really tough for her but it was a pleasure for me to kind of share in that moment. She's been such incredible competitor throughout her career. she's been one of the fittest players out there and you know there's a lot to respect about what she's done in the game and for the game. I'm so sick. Pleasure for me to be a part of that and hopefully she could enjoy that moment to some degree. In spite of the disappointment of the loss the gravity of Wozniak retirement still not quite sinking L. is off to the match. Well I think I don't really understand it quite yet. I think the ceremony after the match was very emotional having my family down. They're the ones that have been there through it. All was very very special crowd. I've felt the love from the crowd which was amazing But I don't think I think it's really GonNa hit me for probably another couple of days or weeks or even months you know when I wake up and I realized I have no plans. No word that I have to be. It's it's GonNa that'd be special of of excited. For good friend Serena Williams was also holding back her emotions. She's had an amazing career. And Oh my God. I'm getting emotional. Aw Oh my God I'm GonNa miss her she's guys I can't answer caroline questions. I'm going to be crying. Saying she's one of my best friends in the world and we have a great life for the rest of our lives together but I will miss her out on tour. Although I've been dotcoms homes Metro Lopez told the IRS show. Today's results have thrown the women's draw into disarray. Had Carolina Serena come through matches. They would have met in the fourth round. which would have been like a blockbuster instead we have on Jabbour versus one Chung which nobody expected? I don't think it really does open up that quarter that was headed by Naomi Asaka okay. Everyone had a soccer and Serena e mocked that quarter-final and it takes on a very different complexion. But what about her fellow Australian plays we spoke to her Fed Cup Team Mates Isla Tomasevic Priscilla Hon arena. Roddy OUGHTA and Captain Alicia Molik to find out what body means to them. She's incredible the way she goes about the sport More so than her tennis itself itself. She comes in and does what she needs to do and she gets out which is amazing. The representing not just though country but the tennis in general. I get to play game to love. That is my passion and I get to enjoy their for the second so much success in stayed the same. Is Tim down to Earth Person. Yeah I think it's great for and under Swell Strategy for ten is that she is one of the moment. It's neither better nor blessing. She's number one in the world that that's a reflection of the top tennis by. She is obviously she's very smart. Knows tell us the game probably one of the best and sometimes listening tire Fed Cup plays. It's crazy how much knowledge she has. And hopefully I can learn a little bit body makes it look easy. She's on to easy person to be around with. And Yeah I feel pretty lucky to be able to be with her. I'm far from the national here. I think there are. There are suddenly a lot more people doing more important things than than playing a game of tennis but he continues her Home Slam assault tomorrow against twenty nine seed Elina Qena Day five also features some fascinating third round battles including a massive double head and not session on Rod Laver Roger Federer faces. Australia's John Millman the the man who knocked him out of the two thousand eighteen. US Open. I think the next match is going to be a test for me because John is going to be there. He's he's fit like a fiddle of. I've lost him in the past in the best of five-set match almost lost him in Brisbane as well the first played against him and You know he's from this country so naturally also it's going to be different intensity so I think this is going to be good test for me. Millman says he has nothing to lose against the six time champ. Rogers Obviously is a class act and I think A lot of people think that he's you know one of if not the greatest ever to play the game so between between now and then I'm going to have to do everything right in terms of my preparation and I'm going to have to improve upon my performances. No doubt he's looked in really good form but at least a little bit what to expect played him now a few times and and The good news is go out there and you start off zero all and and and what you can expect for me is. I'll go there and give it a crack. ESPN's salmon canvas telling. The Federa should be wary of the unheralded. Does he millman has wheels like nobody's business. I mean he is incredible. Great fighter We'll scrap for everything is really fit. Federal nosing well. He's talking about Switzerland's practice just with him identifies that was a nice way of doing it for moments attorney over in New York but I think federal will really want to start strongly and try and get right on top of millman early and it was interesting. That whole discussion about which caught it was going to be on. Would it be labor or somewhere outside where the fans the public fans can get in instead of people who've bought tickets in advance it is GonNa be on world labor is going to be less partisan imagined for millman than it would have been otherwise Federal big favourite but should be interesting not five also features defending champion. Now now me Asaka against teenage sensation coca Gulf who was trounced in straight sets the last time the pair met at the. US Open. I think I'll be less nervous this time. I think yes open. I was nervous with my first time on Ash And I I mean we're both familiar with each other's game. She plays really aggressive. So this time coming in I'm just GONNA try to be more more aggressive. The women's game is at the moment. And how everyone plays such a high level. It's very difficult for her to step in the first round and get through it because she isn't much sharp unfortunately because differs shoulder problems before that she had four arm forearm problems so I think that's the tough part for her off. That is terrible for Joel. Because she can hit big but she can also has all these different spins uh-huh and dropshots and she can driver opponents notts when she's doing the right things so unkind either beats herself or wins because her game is perplexing. All about TMAO with W.H. Wilson Tang, MD
"All right in today's episode we we are with Dr Tang from Cleveland Clinic. I am beyond honored to have after Tang on the podcast. Tma Island off the research is not so thank you Dr Tank for joining us. Oh thank you Danielle pleasure to be here. Thank you so I I would want free to just introduce yourself and tell everyone kind of about what do and what your work is a cardiologist researcher well. I'm actually a heart transplant cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic and my day job I see patients with heart failure and trying into identify potential courses and trying to delay the progression and if unfortunately they get worse I try to see where what we could do with mechanical devices or transplants and then actually take care of them after wits so obviously that's very different from my research were which is trying to prevent that from happening it is too many people heading towards the same cliff and we definitely need to find ways to prevent ben from developing heart disease and more importantly heart failure absolutely and your research is is just outstanding. We'll everything you do is incredible. The heart failure and transplant is obviously very amazing aspect because so much is changing with our different not only medical therapies irby's but now with transplant and some of the mechanical circulatory support so it's really a dynamic changing an unbelievable feel. Your research is so groundbreaking and fascinating to me so I would love if you could give everyone. There's a lot of physicians scientists and Science Lovers listened to my podcast and a lot of them are interested interest in the work you did so. I'd love if you could kind of give an overview just starting kind of about what tm Ao is an and your work and how it relates to cardiovascular disease sure so I've always been fascinated by how heart how the heart interacts with other organs and in particular the kidneys and so for a long time I've been working with a different researchers to look at how the heart and the kidney interacts and my translational research has actually headed towards that direction early on where we were trying to find molecules in the blood that distinguish between those who progress develop you know kind of the events versus those who do not aw and early on I measured a lot of small molecules that we actually know to have kind of aspirations something like the adm a is symmetric saw Janine which is really an endogenous Netra. I'll say synthase inhibitor and also different small molecule metabolite so that's actually actually where I started looking at oxidative stress and nitrogen stress and how you know kind of using blood and urine we could actually detect early triggers that can can help us identify. You Know Progressive Diseases so we have this kind of. I did that potentially many unknown substances in the blood at also tell the same story and when we first started we have a mass SPEC machine that could identify different small molecule us and we have samples of patients who subsequently develop diseases that we have collected early on with a control group of those who did not develop disease so we actually try it over and over again using different incase controlled comparisons to look at a vast array of molecules small molecules usually under like a hundred Dalton and so America weight a hundred and trying to figure out you know these sma- accused whether they could distinguish patients who have events versus don't have events events and as you imagine when we keep going this case control you know comparison over and over again using different cohorts of samples we ended up saving down filtering down you know less and less number molecules until we hit about eighteen of them only after like multiple secessions off ah case controlled comparisons and so that actually seeps out from thousands of molecules through eighteen but then they all kind of in molecular weight the we actually don't know what they are art we knew one or two of them but we didn't know the rest and and so it's a hard work of a few postdoctoral fellows from Dr Stan Heathens lab that started working on literally figuring out the permutation combination of these potential compounds and then of course we have to validate date them as you can imagine many many difference. Amok you have to say molecular weight so if you think about it literally doing trial and error at that point that was it's kind of a hectic work but then we we certainly find three molecules in these eighteen that seemed to be correlating into each other and we were very perplexing what they are so we actually focus assets in looking in a band and it turns out the all having a Trimbe Isao group so three mess me sell that linked to link together and one of them seem to be a by product that is conversion version by humans but it was generated by bacteria in the literature so that's how we actually you know mentally got into the whole field of Gut microbiome grown obviously never predicted that this is going to happen but we started to be able to specifically identify the NFL which was try Michel and and Tommy fell and oxide superbeets I mean and so this is actually how we act on that and so after that we have you know obviously other samples that had long term outcomes and we started to kind of off generate and the perspective cohort of patients who we know over time had you know so a number of people have diseases and we started added to you know analyze those ampoules identify independently identify the pro value of Cameo in those cohorts which which was independent of all the traditional sectors and to demonstrate that indeed it may be a causative factor we have to turn to animal role models and conveniently the most model that we had had the bacteria and got that produces a good amount of tm that with your Mayo we learn about subsequently because some mouse actually don't have those bacteria that makes him a which becomes very very convenient for us otherwise but we the most common laboratory mouse list electric miles and in fact it does generate a lafayette meal when they were Fed with choline rolling diet chain a really comes from bacteria consumption of substrates that we the food that we eat every day so anything anything with me saw groups that they could actually use as food the bacteria used as food. ended up generating this torturing us. I protocol brought a copy emmy which it goes into the blood and through the liver and deliver. I should convert it to Tamil so the foods that are most post high in choline and carnitine which are the precursors when they go through the microbiome to go from t t mail so these you find find highest in you would say things like eggs and at red meat yeah meat liver. You know things that actually have high cholesterol electro. It's kind of some people even called it the third cholesterol and it is something that that the other thing that we as cardiologists tell patients to avoid for good balanced diet half high choline content now just be aware that choline is important some people. I feel quite strongly that in early development we do need cold into a precursor for Coleen which obviously is important for neural zero development so that's why it's actually Africa as a supplement for pregnant women and actually consumption guidelines guidelines for that and some older patients also use Coleen for that purpose thinking that they may actually help with reducing cognitive decline fine except that obviously the data there is not very strong but I think it is important to recognize this is where we found out later and improbably interesting to your audience that another compound that is common in foot- groups is commenting which is a meet and red meat in particular and that certainly has a different type of enzymes in different types of bacteria that convert the connotation into and subsequently lead to production of TM L. so I think that's where we have the the a unique opportunity to truly understand what the environment in this case that dietary intake and different food groups particularly meet and how that impact the body's response and also the metabolites produce when eating red meat. I not eating red yeah. That's fascinating and so when did you start to make the connection between TMA. Oh and Athar Genesis Platelet let aggregation atherosclerosis things like this yeah. This is actually quite early. Once we actually got the animal models going recognized at the mouth that we use indeed indeed when eating Choline fossils you're calling in particular lead to production of Cameo. Obviously we were able oh to start using the mouse model to look at after genesis so what we do is we were able to feed the mouse with without the choline content in detail and then this is the type of mouse flex most at more prone to development of Roma. This is so call eight now mice and so studies have actually shown that with like accelerated girls and and interestingly when we were well we were able to demonstrate firstly the bacteria is involved in this by giving both anybody and see whether the the cameo levels go down which they do but also for germ free mice when they don't have any gut flora where we did them choline lean diet they don't generate male or female but then when the mouse was exposed to kind of you know the the wild meaning they start doc accumulating gut bacteria `timeo production increases and the presence of this elevation leads to more through through ask the Roma and they order and when we give short-term anybody with a triple regimen something that you know stays in the bow for the four the mice we actually found that is attenuated. All these really have a direct cost-effective this now we could demonstrate you know almost like the cost postulate that we learn in in infectious disease microbiology that the presence of the bacteria is essentially making the metabolite and obviously tm AOL is also present some food particularly fish and seafood the task you I I was this is like the number one question to ask. You is in a preformed. TM In fish does this raise your humans ends and if so is a rise from that form of TMA. Oh bad for us it actually it does in fact if you actually have you you know just otherwise healthy individuals eat a wide variety of food which people have done experiments on that the the main food component that leads doue transient rise and fall and cameo is dish and particularly but not off fish half the email. You think Judy Logically Cameo. Oh is made by the muscles of the fish particularly deep sea fish because changes the melting of the the freezing point of the muscles. I was actually the muscles antifreeze so it provides a protection for the deep sea fish so that's why doesn't look like the fish in the freezer it actually make make make sufficient up freeze and so so impact people have done a lot of work in marine green biology on on this and in fact the enzymes made in fishes muscles that actually convert TMA os well alm aw generate and also eliminate because when fish you know moves from Coda to warmer waters. Actually some of this also changed so we actually actually know that not auditions created equal to not only from cameo levels but also their fish oil levels so you actually measured him. Ill level in say you know lake fish will Shallow Water Trish they actually timmy levels are quite low in back some of them. Are you know non you know very very low. Concentrations whereas deep sea fish like called and like you know a fish that we actually tuna in you know or
Mike Pompeo on 'Face the Nation': U.S. weighing 'full range' of options to counter Iran, including military strike
"We begin today with the increasing tensions between the US and Ron and secretary of state. Mike pompeo. Good morning mister secretary and happy. Father's day. Thank you. Good morning. We've had a series of events in past days, the attacks on the tankers and these reports of a missile being fired at a US drone. How's the US going to respond? I think you have to put it in the context of forty years of behavior inside the Islamic Republic around. This is this is consistent with how they behaved. Previously, they did it when they were in the JCP away, the built the missile program we relieve sanctions. They took American sailors hostage. This is a regime that has caused much trouble around the world, the last forty days we've seen a number of activities, not just these past two, but for other commercial ships, which challenged the international norms of freedom of navigation. The United States is considering a full range of options. We briefed the president a couple of times, we'll continue to keep them updated. We are confident that we can take a set of actions that can restore deterrence, which is our mission set. You say a full range of options does that include military response, course, of course, the president will consider everything we need to do to make sure right? What's the president said we don't want Iran to get a nuclear weapon the previous administration, put them on a pathway that virtually guaranteed that they could get there. So we withdrew from the ridiculous ACP away. And are moving ourselves towards upset of policies, which will convince Ron to behave simply like a normal nation. And so you've seen them attacking international waterways, trying to frankly drive up the price of crude oil around the world, so that the world will cry uncle and not our Ron. They're so cash-strapped and they need these customers. Why would they attack them? But because Iran can't sell it screwed. Oh, we've stopped them from doing that. We've put sanctions in place that have taken them from roughly two point seven Maryland. Barrels per day million barrels per day with American section stand com released this video of purporting to show an Irish revolutionary guard patrol boat, pulling up a long side, these vessels and removing a mind from the hall of the ship. How certain are you that this is the I R, G C and will you take that evidence and present to our allies and the United Nations? Of course, we will, and we don't just purport that's what that video is this was this was taken from an American camera. This is the stuff. This is the real data. Yes. We've shared it with allies already. You've had the chance to see it. I made a bunch of phone calls yesterday. I make a whole bunch more calls today. The world needs to unite against this threat from this lawmaker Republican Ron. Yes. The revolutionary guard. It is. And, and we're going to remind you to China gets over eighty percent of its crude oil transiting through the strait of homos, South Korea Japan. These nations are incredibly dependent on these resources war prepared to do our part. We always defend freedom of navigation. We're going to work to build out a set of countries that have deep vested interest in keeping that straight open to help us do that. So when you talk about military response, you're talking about that keeping the waterways, open. You're not at this point talking about a strike on Iran. Goodness, President Trump has said very clearly. He doesn't want to go to war at the same time, we've made very clear. Than what we have the legal authorization for strike on Iran. We always have the authorization to defend American interests. Remember, they now have attacked US aircraft. They on June sixth, there was a missile fired from Yemen, with, that we assess had a rainy assistance, that took down, an aircraft these attacks on fundamental international norms, and now on American interests. And we always have the right to defend our country. Because there are questions about whether the existing authorization for use of military force to AO math would actually include a strike on Iran. Are you confident that you could go and not have to ask congress for permission to take action? I don't want to get into hypotheticals, but the American people should be very confident the actions that the United States takes under President Trump will always be lawful. Always consistent with our constitution, and we will always do the hard task that takes to protect American interests wherever they are. But do you need Congress's permission? To do what Margaret, you, I, I don't have to answer the question in the abstract permits. You said a range of options are being looked at every option. We look at we'll be fully lawful. Well, I want to ask you that because when you were trying to lay out this case, as you know, some allies have said that video released was not enough to convince them with the exception of the UK in Saudi Arabia. Some allies are saying, we need to see more and hear more from the United States. President Trump as you said he campaigned against Middle East wars. But there's also this perception that the administration spoiling for this fight, you were vocal critic when you were in congress about the nuclear deal you called JC earlier. The national security adviser right now is one of the architects of the two thousand and three war in Iraq. According to the latest economist poll, fifty one percent of Americans say, the president is not, honest versus thirty three who say he is if you have a credibility gap that is going to be hard for you to sell something to the American public. How do you resolve that? We're not selling anything. These things are simple. Facts had many conversations over the past frankly weeks, talking about Iran's activity. No one doubts the data set. I haven't I haven't heard a single person say ministers. The video was not enough. The German Foreign Minister has seen a great deal more than just that video. He will continue to see more, we'll conceive. There are countries that just wish this would go away, and they want to act in a way that is counterfactual. No one disputes, that this is these logic Republican Ron taking these actions to deny this international Rodway waterway and the freedom of navigation. That is a fundamental right of every country to travel through that. I've seen no one deny it, and I'm confident that as we continue to develop the fact pattern countries around the world will not only accept the basic facts, which are indisputable, but we'll come to understand that this is an important mission for the world, one of the things when you're at the podium, at the State Department earlier this week, you presented as fact was an attack. That was carried out in Kabul in may. The Taliban said they carried it out. But you blamed Iran for it. What evidence do you have that Iran was behind that attack that same statement about said they killed ten people, I would suggest to you that the credibility of the Taliban? It's not something you ought to bring onto your show. Was behind a we have confidence that Iran instigated this attack, I can't share any more of the intelligence, but I wouldn't have said it if the intelligence community hadn't become convinced that this was the case. So there's more that you can't share with us to yes, ma'am. That's correct. Iran state media says that they are going to start looking at ramping up their production of nuclear fuel. What does the US do to stop this? If you've already withdrawn from the nuclear court think about that. But Iran is now announcing that in a matter of days they can begin to spin up their nuclear program. This tells you how flawed the deal was read tells you that the deal had no capacity just keep putting more sanctions on desperation doesn't always lead to the best decision, making our attention is this. We know that their nuclear program accelerates, if they have more money in wealth, if they have more capacity more resources, they have access to metals and materials into fissile material. If we really have sanctions their nuclear program presents an even greater risk to the United States. And so our mission has been very clear, deny them, the wealth and resources and their capacity to build out a nuclear program and be prepared to do all that it takes to prevent that from happening. I want to ask you quickly about Russia. The New York Times is reporting that the US is escalating digital attack cyber attacks inside of Russia to hit back and attempted interference in twenty eighteen the president has called this report, both false and. Treasonous, which then suggests that there is some truth to it. So, which is it never comment on intelligence matters? The president said it was never never come on intelligence matters. Having having come from being CI director. I know how important it is. But you should know and your viewers should know that the United States of America under President Trump has taken enormous effort to ensure that our elections are not interfered with not from Russia, not from any other country in the world. It's a serious matter. It's one that this administration took seriously at the direction of President Trump from the very beginning of his time in office, and we'll continue to do that. I only wish the previous administration had been so serious about preventing election interference. It's interesting that we are sharpening this point because it's the same week when we heard from the president, as you know, who told an interviewer on ABC earlier this week that he would I listen to a foreign government, if they tried to offer him dirt on an opponent, and then make a decision as to whether or not to inform the FBI, the former CIA director, someone who talks every day to foreign governments. What would you advise the president to President Trump clarified? His remarks that it gets pretty clear. He'll do the right thing. I'm highly competent of that. I don't have anything I saw his remarks. He said he said, I think in both instances he said he'd, he'd do both. He said he'd report this to the FBI look at it. It's, it's you all present this present. He uses the word maybe I listened to listen to this very close to the president made very clear. He's going to do the right thing. I have enormous confidence that I've watched him doing. Call the FBI of watched him do the right thing, every time we've had an important national security decision to be made. He's evaluated options and made very good choices about how. To proceed mister secretary. Thank you for your
U.S. Special Forces Battle Against ISIS Turns to Containment, and Concern
"Story came to me from sources within the special forces community, and they told me the story about how they were on a operated in two thousand and ten who's Marsha Afghanistan. There's a huge clearing operation was a big deal in the press at the time, and obviously, a big deal for the military as well that they were clearing through this insurgent stronghold in Afghanistan. It was considered the insurgent capital at the time and a special forces OD, a special forces team from third special forces group was working with the Kanak commandos, who are Afghanistan's national counterterrorism force. They are like they're kind of like their version of tier one their premier counterterrorism team. And Afghan, government of Afghantistan will deploy Kanak and their special forces advisers with them wherever they're needed around the country, then, you know, they're kind of like an you. They could be a quick reaction force. They can go they can go put out fires wherever they need to do that. Well said, so they are down there. Of course, for this big operation down in Marsha. They can't Moorhead they go down to camp bastion, and stage out of there, where the special forces piece of that mission is being run out of the AO be at that camp. It's a obese the advanced operating base, and that's where all the staff officers are where the logistical hub is going to run the whole operation so attached to the ODA that's going out to hit a objective. The objective is thunderdome. They have an attachment to them, and because the ODA's are working on these big large scale operations with the Afghans. They sometimes get attachments, basically there to help them out. And in this case, it was a navy seal a seal sniper, and they told me that it was Gallagher. Okay, gone on this operation with them. So the joint Afghan-American force, they push up to this road intersection, which is objective. Thunderdome. And capture a house there that they're going to use as kind of their staging ground out in the field for this operation, so they come in and captured this area. And chief Gallagher. I'm told was up on the roof with other special forces members. And there's a lot of Afghan national army an guys driving down the road through this road. Intersection to participate in the operation. And they said that chief Gallagher popped off shot at an and one round actually went through the rear window of a high locks embedded in the dashboard, which. Not a great start now. And then throughout the that that day and into the next morning. There was a farmer nearby kind of middle aged guy and whenever there was a lull in the firefight. Whenever there's a low and fighting this farmer would come out with his ho and it start working his land. Farming farming waits for no man war be damned. Yeah. In other another day in Afghanistan, and the interpreter for the team kept telling this civilian like go back inside. It's not safe out here. Of course. Not, and he'd keep coming back out, anytime. There's a law when fire according to my sources.

I'm Melissa Kirsch editor in chief of life hacker and co host of the upgrade podcast where we help you improve your life one week at a time. I'm filling in today for the globetrotting Jefferson Graham, you hear a lot lately about how our devices are ruining our lives. How social media is a cesspool of negativity how it inspires foam. Oh, and 'isolation and depression, just this week Representative Alexandria, Aqazadeh Cortez who rose to national prominence through canny usage of Twitter and other platforms. AO see called social media, quote, a public health risk to everybody unquote and announced she'd quit Facebook a big part of my job is figuring out. How people can be more productive and happier. So it may surprise you that I find the notion of a digital detox to be well unproductive, it's not realistic for many of us to just unplug. We used social media to stay in touch with people to stay relevant in our careers to workshop are one liners. Instead, I recommend three ways to improve your. Digital hygiene instead of scrolling through Twitter to keep up on breaking news, use the nuzzle app. Nuzzle scans your Twitter feed finds the links that people are tweeting and serves you up a feed of just the news stories your Twitter versus talking about you, get all the headlines, and none of the sniping and quipping and bragging and B S that can make Twitter so tiresome newsfeed eradicated for Facebook is a chrome extension that does just what its name implies it. Well, nothing gone are the political screed screens, the vacation photos, the MLM solicitations, you can still get to your event invitations and messages, you can still check up on the bully from nursery school, but you'll have to navigate to their profile to do. So. My last recommendation is to turn off notifications on your phone that don't come directly from humans. So you can keep your text. Notifications. Your what's happening affiliations you can keep your ringer on provided. You're not in a public place, but turn off the rest turn off the automatic banners. Your served whenever someone likes her Instagram photo, turn off the vibration. You get with every friend request. Don't let tech companies entice you back to their platforms when you're offline be off line and present in the real world when you're online erect some guardrails that keep you from veering off into a flame war with a toxic troll practicing. Good digital hygiene is simply a process of taking control of your digital life. You decide when you want to go on social media, you decide if you want to engage with the posts and stories and status updates and snaps tick talks, and whatever else is clamoring for your attention. You decide not big tech that you want to make a date to meet an old friend for coffee instead of just keeping up with their life through status. Updates dry practicing. Puerto Rico governor on Trump: 'If the bully gets close, I'll punch the bully in the mouth'
"Fifty Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rozelle in Washington DC yesterday took aim at President Trump accusing the White House of bullying if if the bully gets close. Punched in the mouth. Well, rose AO has repeatedly accused the Trump administration of slow relief efforts after hurricane Maria. The governor insists on meeting with the president the White House staff has not scheduled a meeting. A spokesman saying that the Trump administration is committed to the complete recovery of Puerto
Upgrade the RAM and storage of nearly any Apple computer with OWC
"Thank you. It's great to be here. You know? I was just thinking normally we talked with Larry O'Connor, but you are the brains of the operation. So let's get right to the news. What w c announced this week on the product side. We announced new our memory for that brand new Amax that'll be shipping in. I guess you think week now and also wanna to announce our overall expansion into both Asia and Europe as well as here within the US. What did you do in terms of the expansion? I understand you acquired three companies. What did you acquire two companies are related an extra and Kito? So Kito sort of the brand that people would be familiar with. They sell external storage solutions and docks. Lot of EG Pugh and PC expansion boxes. And then the engineering arm that Sinn Taiwan. It was under the name extra on. So essentially two different companies purchase a US side, and then the Taiwan side, and then a separate distribution company that we bought in Belgium to better support European customers understand the benefit of buying a European distributor distribution, always good. But OWCP's make an storage since the beginning of time. Why were you interested in bringing Akito? He's been pretty impressed with their engineering and production quality, something I think we've done really well as well. But there's just little little more polish on some of the designs and how they were able to -ccomplish it in production. And I think a lot of that was how close their engineering and production is to the supply chain. So for us that really became a key element. We had a small engineering team in the US, but it was largely bolstered by a lot of our partners overseas. So now sort of instead of being bolstered by partners. It's bolster by ourselves. She what are your plumes? Now that you've got these three companies under the hood what's going forward. Let's start with for customers for customers. They're gonna see on the support sire. European and Asian customers are going to have better sales support better summer service better tech support because it'll be on the ground in the same language in the same. Time zone, which obviously gets rid of a lot of delays. They'll also see in improvement in the availability of the product on both continents, both ODBC and Akito. He'd AO will remain a brand. But a lot of that product is gonna end up folding in under the OB Siebrand from a product perspective people can expect to see faster products coming out faster from us as we can kind of control more of the process from the idea all the way to the production. I think with the additional engineering both on the hardware and software side, we already were working toward really pulling those together and you'll see that accelerate. So you'll see more full hardware software solutions coming out of us in the over. The course of the next year wouldn't suits most excited about these questions for you. We'll for me. It's just seeing the company really be able to expand in these critical areas you when you have a Salesforce sitting here passionate of the product in the u. US the messaging doesn't necessarily come across idiosyncrasies in every geographical region in every country in we didn't frankly sell well into Asia animates like sixty percent of the world's population. So in particular that aspect of really being able to convey, like what's exciting about OD products and talking to customers and getting hearing her story that part really excites me, and then also tying in the engineering and expanding engineering capability because we have so many ideas, and sometimes have them limited by that capability. So now that we have a much bigger team than we're going to be able to do more so kind of excited about both those aspects Jim for people to learn more about the products that

Super Bowl 2019: Pregame coverage before Patriots vs. Rams
"The game, of course, is a big part of it. But also there are other sort of story lines beyond the the Rams and the patriots in a couple of them. There are interesting to me is I want to start Myron with with with gronk. He's kind of had a resurgence a little bit here in the playoffs starting to see a little bit of the gronk of bold wrestlemainia is the first Sunday in April. I'm of the belief that I'm going to see grog make his debut in the WWE it wrestlemainia and then his time in football. Is over. After today. Do you agree with that? And do you think that whatever happened today win or lose could have any effect either way? Well, I think that makes a lot of sense excuse me, especially because you're talking about a guy who can probably get millions of dollars on a pretty limited. Wrestling scheduled Cadillac around. Arousing Brock Leser, like it's not like the old days where he's going to have to wrestle three hundred days out of the year. This guy's going to get paid to show up on special events and make millions. He's talked so much about how much money he saved throughout his career. He's talked about not wanting to play too long. I don't know if today affects anything because he's a first ballot hall of Famer whether he wins or loses today, he's got a bunch of money in the Bank. And I think he could be the next rock in. In. I think he could be that. He's got a personality. You're not a wrestling guy. He's not the rock rock. Am wrestling. He could be that. Well, rock started out as what rocky my via. He was fighting from the family name. And then he emerged as his own way. I can't broadcast that personality in the WWE. We'll promote him. I think he could become a superstar who eventually goes in the movies and forgets football. All right. I I'm not going to argue with the wrestling part of it. But because you're wrong. But Dan, do you think this is it for I? Yeah, I do. But I do believe that tonight's result swings that okay? I can see if they lose tonight especially in close ballgame Brady convincing gronk for another year. Come back for another year. Don't forget is AO win the first round tackled. It's not part of this team. He'll be back. Like, we give me one more run. Gronk I can see that happening. Now, if they win I do believe that he calls it a career as he rightfully shit. Don't take don't. Remember, the comments he made this last week of him talking about the wear and tear, and how much it weighs on you. Mentally, and how hard it is to get hurt and have to practice, and how difficult it that difficult of a thing that is now to say that he's the next rock is absolutely outrageous. Like the row how first of all the rock is the rock was a guy that went into wrestling because that was the the the means to an end that was the vehicle. News and his family had been. He was going to you second of all the rock is incredibly business savvy and Hollywood savvy works like a dog like this is a guy. When it comes to football. Yes. When it comes to training for football. Yes. But he doesn't. I mean, the rock literally works like a dog. I need more talking about the rotten. Now. I saw the rock when he was in survivor series as rocky my via no one knew he wasn't good. And he was trying to figure out who he would be gronk could come in in the social media air, which rocketed the rock didn't come in in the social media era. All I'm saying is gronk could be a superstar in wrestling. Well, let me add gronk is only he's only twenty nine it feels like he's been around forever damnit. He's only twenty nine now he's taking a lot of hits bodies like a forty year old guy. But I guess what I'm saying is listen to countdown to kickoff on ESPN radio you've been through this process and Myron, and I haven't the process to decide you know, what that's it. Right. That's a hard process for every athlete. No matter the level, whether you're elite or not is it in part of it. I think is do I have something to go. Do do you think? I mean, we we talk about wrestling and a lot of people may roll their eyes. But it is something I know he can do if he wants whether it can be great or not he can do it is that talked to me about the process of saying I'm walking away. And and how how how players go through that mindset. Yeah. I mean for for me, you know, it was a great majority of it was I don't love the crap anymore. Doesn't it feel like he doesn't either? Yeah. I mean, that's that's no you're not gonna pay. Now granted if someone was going to pay me five million dollars. I would have dealt with it again, if someone's gonna pay gronk ten or twelve million dollars, maybe, but you get you deal with the crap. Like, so many people doing their job you do with that crap. Because you still love it. You love all the things that competition the locker room, the fellas the drive to be great the work, you love all that. And then once you don't love the dealing with the crap anymore that stuff doesn't matter anymore. It's not worth it anymore. And that's when you start facing the question of do I wanna do this anymore? And it makes it completely now. When I went through my transition, I wasn't for sure. Like, I was like all right. I want to get into analysts in broadcasting get into TV TV. And I was like I'm just gonna go rather than sitter sitting around. And wait. So I knew that there was at least the opportunity there for me. Gronk scan have way more. More than I had presented to him. But if you get to that point where you're done loving, the crap that you have to deal with and there are avenues for you to go. It makes it such an easier decision in move for you to go. You know what I'm done? Here's the next Chad having those options, I do think is is huge. You will have a lot of options. And you didn't know when you quit you're going to get to do a show with Matt Jones in my. But then sometimes I have earlier if I did exactly the Lord's blessing. There you are. So let's talk about the next to the players on the field. Maybe the person that has the most sort of its state today. Myron is your guy Tony Romo? I mean. I'm not sure an announcer has gotten this level of praise maybe ever like universal praise of people going Stephen Smith said is the best performance he'd ever seen from an announcer. And so the thing is that's awesome. Except you've got one more game. And I always of the opinion the most important two days in your life or the first in the last at a job. Well, the last impression he's gonna get from us is this game. Is there pressure on him to recreate the magic from two weeks ago? I think there's a ton of pressure on him to do that. And I think the problem is announcers like him who get this early praise. How many of them go down as being folks? And a lot of people don't like, you know, it's unfortunate because you start out liking guys like Tony Romo. He deserves all of this praise, but because you expect now people expect him to be some profit every game the minute. He shows any sort of flora weakness people are gonna jump onto that and start to criticize him. But I think he's facing more pressure than any announcer at a Super Bowl or any analysts had a Super Bowl that I can remember because people think he's like something we haven't seen before. And now he's going to have to deal with that pressure. Incomes care like most of the time. I'll be honest with you, Dan. I don't even know who the announcers are until I realized what network game is on. But with Romo I mean, there are prop bets on how many he's gonna call. Like, this is he is not the biggest story the game is. But you know, he's the second third or fourth. Biggest story. I think a big part of it too is like people are having a ton of fun listening to him. Torino because not only is he very good at what he does in. I've said this as a broadcaster networks you better have quarterbacks on there. Because you you've gotta be able to get people to understand the game different levels that communicated to all kinds of people. But it's the fact of he continuously telling educating people on the wise in house put it's fun. Like, you're having fun. Like John Madden was the last announcer. Who seemed like he was having as much fun as Romo, and it's it's okay. For him to talk over Jim Nance for a second. Because if you were sitting at a bar with your friends are in the living room having a beer with your friends. You talk over your buddy here in this moment. So it's not like this. You know in cookie cutter ish. Oh, we don't do that. Because it's television. But what happens if I'm saying is really good. Then I'm gonna do it. You know? And I think that there is that appreciation for for from people going like this is really good. And he's telling me stuff, that's really. Good. But also like the fact that there's really nobody else on TV sounding like him in ways. Like that like talking over Jim Nance, Jayme lake. It just seems like he's having a blast doing it. There are very few announcers who make the crossover into a personality that they matter Madden did mired. I'd say Barkley has vital. Did like there are many. And I think romo's headed groups, Dan Orlovsky will continue to be on. Would you agree with that? Yes. I think he is definitely in that group of guys where you go. You're now going to watch games because romo's attached to it doesn't matter the game because he's gonna make any game more interesting. Just because of who he is become he's become a part of the game now, and that's a good thing. Because like damn fed people. Like, I think I honestly think there are very few announcers that them just being there matters. I think John Madden. Did I think dick Vitale did Bill Walton? I think dick Vitale did. And I think I think Tony Romo is is sort of becoming like that who's going to win the game. After all this talk who actually is going to
The problem with battling a conservative talking head on Twitter
"President. Joepags tweeted. And his Twitter handle is at Joe talk show. He tweeted keep in mind, what's happening in Venezuela is the direct result of the same socialistic ideology at AO. See that's Cossio Cortez and Senator Sanders and a beta award, and the like are pushing here let that really hit home for you. I re tweeted it with comment, and I said that is incorrect now, I really didn't think that Joe was going to even pay attention to it. But he almost immediately came back and said, at least you stated wine nice work now that that kind of sets the tone for this very brief conversation on Twitter with joepags. And it really gave me an insight into the the type of person, or at least a persona that he puts forth on social media. And to a certain extent, this is this is him on the radio at my response to him. Was it takes more than Twitter conversation to adequately? Explain how your statement was in accurate. I know you believe what you stated, but the facts don't support your position. I have to admit now I had to go back and rewrite that because I immediately money jerk reaction was I I wanted to throttle him. I I wanted to I wanted to be vicious, but I'll I decided instead. To take the higher route. And. Essentially say, look, you believe what you've stated. But based on the facts that I'm privy to your position is inaccurate. He responds. One hundred percent incorrect, in fact, and this is what got me you come off as so incredibly incoherent and uneducated in your response that it actually was just a waste of space in my time line, call the show you can learn me then. I don't know what I was expecting from Joe. I should've known. This is what I was going to get. But. I would love for our. I don't know. I can't I can't stand here in tale. You that liberal talk show hosts don't have some vitriol as well. I mean, look jank Uber on on the the young Turks. There have been times where he's gotten really really really vicious, and I don't necessarily agree with that. I agree with jink on a lot of points. But not not some of the more vitriolic. Let's just dig our heels in ex at an expose our our Qena, and our extended nails and just really dig in with everything that we have. And so I had to I had to think about this response. And I had some time to think about it because he responded to this after at already left to go to a client's location. So I I didn't respond to this until about two hours later in. My response was this. It's intellectually dishonest to compare the democratic socialism ideology of at AO see and at Senator Sanders to the corrupt it's socialistic system of Innis Walea. They're not the same not even in the ballpark that thanks for demonstrating. How you attack anyone that disagrees with you smiley face and his response was not attacking being direct. You are one hundred percent absolutely wrong.
