"And I find that very interesting. Well, yeah, why would they say no? Because they he's running it like it's because I think shop and safe. I think they know that he would come in and spend the money. And they want the pirates, you know, they feed off the pirates thinking. Gotta think about that. No. That's fine. That's not good for business. The pirate strategy is not good for the other owners. The pirates are sucking up. The luxury tax money from the Yankees. Correct. But part develop people, such as Brian Reynolds and Ben are, for example, trade them to the Dodgers to the angels to the Yankees. I don't think so. I think the MLB would rather see the pirates spend money for sure. It's a better product. I think everyone wins. When there's parody like this I know, I know I'm going to win when they spend money because I'm going to be happy to watch them. Give me your other pirates insider info. Can we do? We have some insider info. I think it's very interesting. So there was a lot of speculation that the pirates were going to sign Andrew McCutchen this year. And kind of like his swan song, coming back to the pitch. The reason that they didn't sign it was based on the fact that if management management believed that if he came back and had its subpar year that it would tarnish his legacy in Pittsburgh and I just can't believe it. I'm trying to think if there's another example where this happened. Oh, Harrison came back. That's probably a pretty good one. You need to do great. Well, he actually left. No one cared. It didn't tarnish his legacy. You're right about that. One of the Patriots tarnished his legacy yeah, right. But. But anyway, when he came back, everyone was cool. But the reason that they used that as an excuse not to sign him, I think it was crazy. He makes no sense. All right, let's just let him play Milwaukee. Yeah, right, right. And let him hit it with that's better. That one Sunday, he hit like 5 RBS against us. He could still play. It's unbelievable. I think right now what they need the most is that veteran leadership. And they don't have that. Why do we have why do we have such an affinity for overweight fielders? Is it unbelievable? Or not field is batters. Why do we just sign the fattest guys this year without the strategy? Do you know what? I can not believe listen, do you want to sign a big guy to hit the ball? I get it. I like Daniel vauban. He tries hard. In Yoshi, they're bad in the leadoff. I've never seen a guy like that by leader. Frank, I bet a leadoff every time you know I bad Alito. This dude is 9000 pounds. He's playing Leo. I've never seen a baseball strategy. I think it's like the analytics nerds just like going way over the top. See, I think analytics has analytics it has to be that as almost ruined baseball to an extent. Yeah, I knew you were going to say the shift, wasn't there part of the new CBA, going to say you can't shift anymore. So next year. That's okay they agree that next year. You can not, so baseball. You have two infielders on both sides of second base. First and second, third and short. That is actually going to be a rule next year. You are not allowed to move a third person past second.

"Of the net? You can just get angle. It's funny. He's like sliding the puck for a side, like on the ground. His goals are pathetic. We had this debate the other day because we were talking about that in regards to Ovechkin and Gretzky and Bret hall and the mu and all the greats. It's a different era. Pretending like the players of the past from all these sports are as good as the players today is craziness. Of course, these guys are better athletes today. They have more information, better trading. It's better everything. Yes. So yeah, I think it's crazy too. But okay, so I don't know what there is to be excited about really. I'm not that excited about anything. I don't really have a good answer for this one. I'm excited because I know this kid's going to do one more thing. I note. I just have that feeling. Okay. He's been that special. Do we have like, let's say, let's hang and malkin don't come back. We probably have some cap space. There's probably a move to make well, here's the thing. So you're going to free up, I think it's, I want to say between 14 and 16 million. That's a lot. You could sign three to four players at a 4 million valuation, which is still you're getting a solid player. But it's not the same. I mean, the Tang, malkin, there was definitely noticeable decline. There's no doubt about that. No doubt about that. Let's Hank still looks very good. In la Tang, that one game that went to trip the first game that went to triple overtime. I think he played 40 minutes. I mean, that's absurd. That's an absurd amount. He always leads the team in ice time, but that was a lot. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Buckles? I mean, big win last time he gets to Dodgers. That was unbelievable. My dad, I don't know him like plus three 50. I told him before he better, and I was like, how did you get to play really bad to lose to the party? But you know what? Listen. I read a snap the other day that just the lineup that you don't like accidentally win a game like that was my point, I guess. It's like, if you win a game like that, it's not like football where you just get a turnover. Like the Steelers win for us to build when we block a punt score touchdown. Yes. You don't win like that in baseball. You have to legitimately win. Well, they hit walker Bueller really well. Didn't think that was going to happen. A three run home run.

"All right, Fred Michael Smith, we're back. A long time coming. Lou curcio in the studio. What up, Lou? What's up, buddy? Dude, I'm pumped to be here, man. I've been listening to the pods for a while. Always ask you, you try to be a part of this. I love it. What's it been like a year that we've tried to cook something up? Well, when did you come back to town? October. Yeah. I mean, even before that, I remember texting me being like, yo, dude, I can't believe you're in LA and I'm listening to your Pittsburgh. Like, crazy stuff. Yeah, we gotta get one. This is the Pittsburgh pod. We're gonna touch in all the teams. But before we get to the teams, we should talk about the moment that actually spurred this. Lou hit a gigantic bet. And no one really wants to hear about other people's bets, but this is a big one. Tell us what you just hit on one of the gambling sites. So Friday night was game 6, Boston, Miami, and we got some information across the wire, Jimmy Butler 35 points Jimmy Butler three threes, Miami money line. So it was what to win what? It was a $100 to win 13,300. And it only had three legs. I only had three legs. The biggest see the biggest thing was Miami was an 8 point dog. So that money line coming back really spurred the what, they were plus like 400 or something but yes. Okay, so that was the big one. And then butler's three threes were big because he isn't shoot many threes. And he ended up with how many threes. I think he ended up with four, actually. That is a lot of threes for Jimmy. That's a ton, man. Yeah. So that's a little closer to your mic, just a tad bit closer. That's a lot of threes for Jimmy. And then the other leg was 35 points. What are you going to do with the cash? Well, we're going to go to Disney World. I got a good Disney World. You know what? I'm trying to be smart with them, man. Here's how it all started with. Put it all in crypto. Be very smart. Right, exactly. Right. Like two years ago, it all started when fans started releasing you could bet on the touchdown scores. That's really what changed the game for me. And I totally got off the over unders in the game lines and the money lines and just pet touched on scores. And I hit a couple back then and that's just like really what I enjoy doing. So we're going to save some money for NFL. Put a little sprinkle a little in our sponsor, underdog fantasy, sponsor the show. Well, is that who does it now? Underdog is actually great because they have pick them on there..

It's Election Day in Pennsylvania; Who Holds the Edge?

"Morning, glory, America, don't go high candidate who you at live inside the beltway on this election day in Pennsylvania, Tuesday, may 17th, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in Pennsylvania. I've heard all over the state from Scranton and all the way up in the northern northeastern corner down to Philadelphia. All the way over to Pittsburgh and up to Erie, and I encourage everyone to go and vote for David McCormick for the United States Senate. I also think Lou Bart, let barletta is a much easier to elect candidate. I don't think mister mastriano can win. I know David McCormick can win. I don't think any of the other people can win if you're going to vote for Kathy. Barnett, or Doctor Oz, I think you were throwing your vote away because they can't beat John fetterman. And this election matters so much because if McCormick doesn't get the nomination, we're going to have a very hard time getting the Senate back. In Republican hands and then confirmation of Supreme Court Justices will remain in Chuck Schumer's hands. The opportunity to break the filibuster will remain in Chuck Schumer's hand. It's vitally important to elect David McCormick. The bronze star recipient graduate of West Point grew up outside of Pittsburgh. He built business in Pittsburgh, built jobs in Pittsburgh. He's a Pittsburgh. And so this goes against migraine to say nice things about a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I mean, steelers forever with McCormick, but Dave McCormick's a great American and when you're a West Point graduate and you receive the bronze star for valor in the 82nd airborne in the first Gulf War, you can trust the character.

Mitch Albom Never Intended to Write 'Tuesdays With Morrie'

"Show. I have a guest right now. My bet is that you have heard of him, you may have read some of his books. His name is Mitch album. He is the author of a book called Tuesdays with Maury. I know you've heard of it. It was made into a film, a TV movie. It was on The New York Times Best Seller list for like four years. And speaking as an author, I want to say, I deeply resent you Mitch album. Welcome to the program. Well, outside of the resentment, thank you for having me on the resentment is bitter, but I'm gonna let it go. There's no reason to cling to bitterness. No, seriously, that is, as an author who is familiar with some of these metrics, that is an extraordinary thing, and the book that sits atop a bestseller list for years is extremely rare. The only one I can think of offhand is M Scott peck's the road less traveled, which is also a book about, hey, what's the meaning of life? So I want to ask you, first of all, you have a new book out. I want to mention that up front. And it is a novel called the stranger in the lifeboat. Is this your first novel? Oh no, no. I've written about 7 novels. All right. So maybe two 7th novel. But you're most known for Tuesdays with Maury. It tell the story behind that for people who are unaware. They still exist. Some people who are unaware of how that happened for you. Sure. Well, it was really quite an accident, so actually the fact that it stayed on those best sellers was for that long was even more remarkable because it wasn't ever supposed to be a book. I had seen my old college professor, Maurice Schwartz. On nightline with Ted cop, and he was talking about what it was like to die from Lou Gehrig's disease. And I had been very close with him when I was back in college, but then I had lost touch with him as I had gone on to chase my career and my ambition. And for 16 years, I never got back in touch with him and all of a sudden I saw him on television. Basically saying he had a few months left to live. So I went to go visit him. And one visit turned into two to turn to three, four, 5, 6. It was never supposed to be a book. Erika was just it was just him kind of counseling me on what's important in life once you really know you're going to die as he did and how you can change your life to live

Flights Carrying Illegals Are Now Landing in Pennsylvania

"Carrying illegals. Are now landing in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has become the latest location where flights filled with illegals are being flown under the cover cover of darkness. Former GOP Congress and Lou barletta, who's running for office, has said, so it's really interesting. When you start to now see the kind of movement of illegals all across the country, you're starting to ask yourself the question who is coordinating this? It is my understanding that a total of a 130 immigrants, 118 miners and 12 adults arrived on board a chartered flight. So let me get this straight. There's still Americans that are stranded in Afghanistan, and we don't have the chartered flights to get them out of Afghanistan. But we do have the chartered flights to move illegals into the interior of our country. This is a legitimate scandal. The Biden regime has already allowed plane loads of illegal immigrants or illegals to be flown into New York and Florida in recent months. Now why Ron DeSantis is allowing that to happen, I don't know. Meanwhile, the Biden regime sent over 70 flights secretly to Jacksonville, Florida over the summer.

Mike and Lou Dobbs Discuss the Radicalization of the Left

"Not only are we going to see a transformation of Americans who thought falsely that Joe Biden was this sort of jocular, middle of the road, nice guy. I mean, let's face it, this is really nefarious stuff. We're seeing really evil things happen. And the evil even reached the doorstep of News Corp. this week with a guy burning down a Christmas tree and Lou what a shocker. They didn't hold the guy. They didn't even put him in jail. They released him because under New York Democrat leaders progressive, bail reform policies, apparently you can't put somebody in jail who burns down something worth a half a $1 million if it doesn't involve targeting a person. That's bail reform for you. It is and it's male reform brought to you by the Marxist, the leftist Democrats, by the way, I think that that is now the imprimatur of the entire leadership of the Democratic Party. Sure. There are such things as moderate Democrats, but they are somewhere in the heartland. They are certainly not on either coast because this is a country now. We are confronted with the control of both houses of government and The White House by a party that is so radicalized that, as you say, burn down a Christmas tree, no problem, riot and try to destroy a courthouse in Portland, Oregon. No problem. We want if we do have to arrest you and we will only arrest perhaps 10% of those involved. We certainly will not hold you in jail, nor will we follow up and prosecute you. It's outrageous what we're watching in this country. And just as sickening to me, Mike, is the fact that the American people have tolerated it to this point. That's changing. But shame on us for putting up with this nonsense this

The leadership of president Trump has a headline over at Fox News. Somebody that I enjoyed many moments with with you on the set, Monica Crowley, writing about Joe Biden's catastrophic collapse of American leadership. Lou as much as you sounded the warning cry, the battle cry. Did you ever think things would go so badly so quickly for the Biden administration? Well, I knew they would get the answer is I thought they would get this bad. And by the way, perhaps considerably worse. I did not think. Even Joe Biden could send us into a tailspin, this early in his administration, but then again, I had no idea that he would be this aggressive in such long headed policies and such perverse values as he brings to the Oval Office.

Why Isn't Governor Abbot Deploying the Texas National Guard to Defend the Southern Border?

"Is betty lou in south texas. I'm a third generation texan Thank you for all you're doing. I am disgusted by the deplorable hans. Fly of illegal immigration into our mighty state and wants to great one nation under god. I'd like to hear more about governor abbott and other governors. What are they doing to forestall this horrible mind stress on fly. Thank you take care. God bless god. Bless thank you betty lou. She makes a great point. It's a great question. In fact tucker. Carlson asked that question last night and has apparently repeatedly invited governor abbott on his show. Evidently governor abbott has declined because tucker keeps asking the texas governor. Why are you not deploying the texas national guard. Why are you standing up to the incompetent. Inept utterly failed biden harris administration on this issue. Here's a. Tucker carlson said last night we opened the show with horrifying pictures. What's happened at our southern border. Which is completely open in. This country is being invaded. No that's not an overstatement more than a million people this year expected by the rest of the world. It's been going on for months. And we've asked texas governor greg abbott many times to come on this show to explain why he hasn't called the national guard to seal the texas border and protect the rest of us from this invasion. Greg abbott has refused to come on repeatedly so pretty soon possibly tomorrow we plan to invite his primary opponents on this show to describe what they would do if they ran texas. That might be an interesting conversation. Governor abbot one. More chance to come on sincerely. Please come on and tell us how you plan to save the rest of us. What is happening in your state. Isn't that a reasonable request. What is what is texas gonna do texas it roll over. I lived there. I love that state. I know the texas spirit. It's not acquiescence

"The nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement throughout the body. So the disease does attacks your spinal cord and these cells to point where you can no longer function. You can't walk. You can't talk you can't eat. You can't do nothing. Okay what are you gonna do nothing because you can do nothing and just attacks you until you know like i said you can't you can't walk can't do anything and then you just start to die so the early symptoms of aids for bring awareness raking you know. It just keeps that in back of their minds. They don't get anything you want to get anything sick and you want things right. Is you got muscles. Weakness or stiffness. Gradually all voluntarily muscles are effective. So that's like the ones that you like. Walk and stuff and talk and you slowly such lose your strength in your -bility speak eat. Move breathe you started slurring reading become difficult and within three to five years of the first things appearing unfortunately you die now. This confused with onset obesity or anything like that because that does happen to people who are overweight shape that check it out nogami wrong. I'm the type to you know. Get wendy when i go upstairs too. But that doesn't mean that. Got hail as that but just keep the nabet game mine so again. I'll repeat so the early symptoms include muscle twitching in the leg and shoulder or tongue. Muscle cramps titan stiff neck muscle weakness affecting arms legs the neck or diaphragm slurred and nasal speech. Difficult chewing or swallowing. Damn i mean this. This is common symptoms. Usually people got really porn about this because like that well so now. The next question is champion. Who gets this disease. You just tell me all these all these symptoms but who actually gets it so age. Although the disease can strike at any age symptoms commonly develop between the age of fifty. Five and seventy five this gender play a role in it A little bit men slightly more likely than women to develop. Ls however people's age affects that also between men and women. So that's a big thing you know the age of you being man and woman the facts you know affects. You're going to get this disease or not and race ethnicity because a lot of diseases do affect races and others don't so a pride dominantly affects caucasians not hispanics so whatever that means so. I guess if you're white and non hispanic so that can be guess. Asian black.

One this is talk chebbi and it is lou gehrig day officially among major league baseball and united states. Now some you may say cheh. What's luke's gehrig's day. Who's lou gehrig. Why is it important to start the episode at that. Let me them lou. Gehrig was a all time. Great yankee player for the nineteen thirties raleigh. Now i'm sure we all went through those walks. We were in elementary school. We had to go fight. Ls neither giving you the purple ribbon and at the time no ever really thought anything of it. You know what. I mean like lego. What's ls. Now so. I think it's important that we actually start talking about. It and bringing awareness is something that's that's lethal and there's no cure for it. Unfortunately it always struck me because those times when we had those those Those talks school. They're always bring somebody in with l. And they were always in a wheelchair. And i always thought to myself. Damn that's six. But i never put anything else to it. You know mike. That couldn't be me right. I wasn't born with that but did i. You know. I did some research up. This episode made me realize like damn that can be me and there's nothing you can do about. It just comes with the territory getting ls. So that's why we need to talk about it and it's not gonna be the whole episode is only the first ten minutes so for all of you who time stamp ten minutes and then we're gonna go talk about this because we're talking about being athletic and you know I ran my first ten k. Over memorial day. Someone give you my brain about that. And i actually got a very interesting email for some shepard vice and i talked to some confidence before i spoke about it on air. "Lou. Indeed that is the purpose of envy. It's a tool for social comparison. Accuse you into your relative position among friends colleagues and peers in Jessica's case, she was clearly in a weak position than her friend. The envy was sounding the alarm. Jessica did eventually recover as it her friend. And when they were reunited, Jessica told her friend about the pain of being abandoned. Several conversations with her when she got back on the island explaining how much I was hurt by that knowing it wasn't her fault. But still needing to get those feelings out there. She's still one of my best friends, and I did get over it. Eventually that was really really hard. Of course, not all stories of envy end with growth and understanding very often envy. Leads to wicked places and tragic consequences. People started sending me a link to a story about people in the Gaza Strip poor people in Israel who were sitting on their couches watching bombs get lobbed at the other side and cheering this week on hidden brain, we doubt deeply into an emotion that most of us prefer to hide it's an emotion that can have a positive side, prompting us to take steps to improve our lives. But he can also turn militias prompting us to resentment rage. Even revenge..
