'Coming 2 America' Goes Heavy On Nostalgia
"Too heavily on nostalgia. Unless you're a huge fan of Eddie Murphy's classic 1988 film coming to America, and lots of people are there's not going to be a lot for you, and it's less than inspired sequel Coming to America. We celebrated her 30 years absolute and prosperity. 30 Years of service. Well, great nation on 30 Years off Delicious fast food. The new film begins with Murphy's Prince Akeem Joe Fair, opening a fast food restaurant called McDowell's in the African Country of Amanda Devote ease of the first movie. No. This chain is owned by Akin's American father in law, played by John Amos, who denies his business is in any way a rip off of another well known burger joint. They've got egg mcmuffins way that a mixed up in this way are also celebrating my new beyond big mix burger, So there's no meat. There's no meat. Maybe we're getting much better with Pepsi Call Max here are subtle as a sledgehammer. This scene mostly gives us an excuse to see Amos and Louie Anderson, who also appeared in the first film, The Story of the original movie was a black centered fairytale. Murphy's a keen came to America, Queens, New York, of course, tow avoid an arranged marriage and find true love in the new movie. After the death of his father, King Akeem discovered he fathered a son unknowingly in America. Teams return to Queens brings one of the Sequels funniest moments when he revisits a local barber shop where movie magic allows Murphy and costar Arsenio Hall to play multiple parts. Just like in the first film can't be both famine and blood. Damn, Nelson Mandela and Winnie just discovered that I may have a bastard son here in this land conceived during my last visit. How much data supports you getting from the King pays no child support. No time for 30 years and you came back. You're the damn it. Comic Jermaine Fowler plays the sun. Lovell Johnson, who brings King a came home to meet his mother marry played by Saturday night Live alum Leslie Jones. My African I told you he was gonna come back. So you know this man. I definitely know this man. I know this man all the way live much as I love Leslie Jones, she and levels. Other American relatives, including Tracy Morgan, as his uncle Come off is uncomfortable stereotypes as King Akeem introduces his son to the moonda and pressures him into an arranged marriage. Comedy gets clunkier and more predictable, like a Mel Brooks style parody of the Black Panther of The Lion King and the first coming to America. Ultimately, this coming to America is mostly an excuse to bask in the glow of characters who's shown so much brighter and distinctively. 33 years ago. I'm Eric Deggans. David Rice Atchison: President For A Day?
"Rice was a democratic senator from the state of missouri. He served in the senate for twelve years from eighteen. Forty three to eighteen fifty five. He had a reputation for being extremely pro. Slavery he owned. Slaves supported all of the slave state issues in the run up to the civil war and when the war finally commenced he served in the confederate army as a brigadier general commanding missouri troops. So he's not the finest of people to sit in the upper chamber of congress. Quite frankly if it wasn't for the events that i'll be discussing this episode david. Rice atchison would probably be mostly forgotten to history i. I came across his name years ago and children's book of fun facts which said that he was the president of the united states for one day. This fact has been repeated on and off for over one hundred and fifty years in fact the words president of the united states for one day are on his tombstone in missouri as sort of a testament to his greatest achievement. So is this true. Was david rice. Atchison really the president of the united states for a single day to answer the question. We need to understand exactly what happened in the election of eighteen. Forty eight week party. Candidate zachary taylor comfortably. Defeated democrat lewis. Cass and free soil candidate. Martin van buren incoming president. James polka made a pledge to seek a single term in office and he honored that pledge by not. Running taylor was a career military man who had never expressed any political opinions prior to the election. And in fact he had never voted. He had a great deal of success as a general during the mexican american war which led to his popularity in calls for him to run for president. He wasn't fact recruited by both the whigs and the democrats. The two major political parties at the time to seek office prior to the passage of the twentieth amendment to the constitution the president and all members of congress would take office at noon on march fourth. This lengthy lame duck period made more sense when everyone had to travel by horseback. And that's why was eventually changed. Nonetheless march fourth was the date everyone took office in eighteen forty nine march fourth landed on a sunday. Zachary taylor being a devout man. Didn't want to have his inauguration ceremony. Take place on the sabbath so he postponed one day until monday. March fifth is vice. President millard fillmore also delayed his oath of office until march fifth according to the law at the time which was the presidential succession act of seventeen ninety to the next person in line to the presidency after the vice president was the president pro. Temporary of the united states senate. The vice president is technically the president of the senate. The president pro temporary is the person who presides over the senate when the vice president is not present. The president temporary was david rice. Atchison at the time the position was actually a competitive election today. The president pro temporary is just the senior ranking member of the majority party in the senate. So the argument is that because neither zachary taylor nor millard fillmore didn't take the oath of office on march fourth and waited until march fifth that they weren't president from noon on march fourth until noon on march fifth. That means that the next in line would have been the president pro. Temporary of the senate david rice. So is this true and does this argument. Hold water. The answer is pretty clear in the answer is no and there are a whole bunch of reasons. Why this is the case. I while the constitution does stipulate that the president and the vice president must take the oath of office it only says quote before he enters upon the execution of his office unquote. This is legal hair-splitting but it means before president can do anything presidential e- sign a law. Appoint officials signed a treaty etc. They must i take the oath of office however they can still be the president before taking the oath to illustrate the point. President kennedy was shot at twelve thirty pm on november. Twenty second nineteen sixty three. He was declared dead at one thirty three. Pm and lyndon johnson took the oath of office on air force one at two thirty eight pm. The moment president kennedy was dead. Or at least claire dead. Lyndon johnson became the president in the same way that someone becomes a king the moment the old king dead even if they haven't been coronated. The oath of office is just a way to legally unlock the powers of the presidency after becoming president. As i said this is legal hair-splitting and for all practical purposes it doesn't really matter but for the twenty four hour period before the oath of office zachary. Taylor was the president. If there was an emergency you could have quickly taken the oath of office in private and without a public ceremony and dealt with the crisis as president. The second argument as to why atkinson was never president is that he never took the oath of office. Either if taylor is in president. Because he didn't take the oath of office than atkinson also can't be president by the same logic. The third argument is that he officially wasn't the president pro. Tempore e of the senate. He was the president pro temporary during the previous session of congress. His term expired on march fourth at noon. Just like the presidential term. Did he needed to be reelected again. On march fifth which he was moreover. This wasn't the first time that this had happened in eighteen. Twenty one james monroe delay taking the oath by a day for the exact same reason yet known assumes that someone else was president for a day at johnson himself never claimed to be president at the time. No one seriously thought he was the president. And there's nothing in the congressional record to indicate that he was there are no constitutional scholars presidential historians or even atkinson's owned biographer. Who thinks that he was actually president at best. If you applied a very strict rule to the taking of the oath to become president then you could maybe say that there was a one day interregnum where there was no president but it doesn't follow that atkinson was president.
Presenting Our Lives as a Living Sacrifice
"What has been said. Before paul's writing these words romans twelve over four romans. Twelve his romans and the whole book of romans. So that matter and one is a real message of the book of well it establishes clearly that we're sinners separated from god but god loved us so much intervene descended son who died for our sins. We must turn from that. Senate put our faith in christ so effectively pulsing. He listened to this in light of what god has done for. You considering the fact that jesus has died for you and giving you salvation in light of this therefore i urge you brothers and the word that he uses airport. Ibc to king james work beseech means urged plea even back. I bet you brothers and sisters. I'm pleading with you. Present yourself to god as a living sacrifice in other words policy. Got us that saying. Hey if you wouldn't mind could you do me a favor. Gotta saying look man. I bought you with a price. I love you and this is what i want you to do. Give yourself to me. Another translation of these verses goes as follows. And i liked this. Here's what a god wants you to do. God helping you take your everyday life your ordinary life. You're sleeping eating drinking going to work and walking around life and place before god is an offering. I like that is take your everyday like here it is. Here's my career here. Are my relationships. Here are my possessions. Here is my ministry. Here is everything. I have my bank account. I give it all to you. Lord i presented to you present your body as a living sacrifice now. Generally sacrifices are dead so it's trickier to present a living sacrifice. Is i think a living sacrifice might have a tendency to crawl off the altar. Her remember the story of abraham. And isaac. When god told abraham to take his son his only son and offer him as a sacrifice and abraham obeyed as did is they made their way up to the place where he would be sacrificed and at one point. Isaac said he. Dad where's the where's the sacrifice. And abraham said god will provide himself sacrifice and so as they made their way up and late isaac alter abraham was prepared to take the life of his own son in at the last moment. of course dangerous. Stop them because it was never. God's will to take the life of abraham son but it was god's will to see abraham would commit everything until the lord. But here's an interesting thing you know. We don't realize maybe because sometimes in film and religious art isaac is portrayed as a very small boy fact of the matter is is probably a teenager is a young man probably full grown. So i'm very easily as dead was laying on the altar is it could have said you know what you're getting kind of old. Why don't we sacrifice you. But is gwen along with it in. This story is in the bible for a number of reasons. But it's a picture of god sending his son. The father loved us so much. He gave his only begotten son. But let's not forget that the sun willingly laid his life down so present yourself to god as a living sacrifice. What does that mean. It means we give our total bean bodies being jer. Total being so. We need to present our minds. Present your mind to god. What does that mean. Spill your mind with the word of god not the junk of this twisted

The answer reveals The answer something reveals about something a giant about nation, a giant its nation, past its past and its possible and its future. possible future. NPR's Lauren NPR's Lauren Frayer begins at one of the markets in western India. Yeah, I like all day. So this is a wholesale market and sort of a dusty lot between looks like warehouses here. Yes, Yes. This is far. Good skunk. Oh, yeah, Wholesale agent, but this is all regulated by the government. Yes, they're appointed by the government. They're being market fees can vote How is showing me around his local wholesale market, one of thousands run by the government where Indian farmers sell their crops in auction. Takes bids for eggplants trucks disgorge bales of collie flower wave through waist high piles of green beans. These markets were set up in the 19 sixties in India's Green revolution. When the government started subsidizing pesticides and irrigation. It helped boost yields and made India self sufficient in food. It did not lift many farmers themselves out of poverty. My father has not much educated Lord Howe comes from a long line of grain farmers. The average Indian farm is about 2.5 acres. These are not big commercial farms like in the American West, and with climate change, mechanization and rampant development, not to mention the pandemic. Indian farmers are struggling load houses at our place. Water is not Copper supplies water. Not there. That's right. That's water as much as when you go. So exactly exactly exactly lot off problem is that the production costs off. Traditional farming is going higher day by day, so the help the Indian government passed three new laws last year they aimed to deregulate the way produces bought and sold. Wholesalers and grocery chains no longer have to buy it. These government run markets they could do deals directly with farms. Many farmers are not happy, though, because you know Agriculture prizes are subject to a lot of volatility. Economists seem a bad lawyer says farmers got used to selling of these government run markets, which guarantee them a minimum price. So it's a safety net for the farmers. When prices go down, the government says it will still set prices for certain crops, and it's not closing these markets just adding more options. But Sanjay Cohade is still worried. Ginger Allah Miggy. Eventually he's a middle man who buys from farmers here. He says he's worried big corporations will circumvent these markets and obliterate small traders like him. As we chat, another man interrupts. We have brought up Narendra Modi's. You will be the King of World nine innings, and this is basically what's happened with the farm laws. It's all devolved into political arguments. Agriculture reform has long been the third rail of Indian politics. Successive governments avoided it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to do it now on a national scale. The rules have always varied by state and by crop economist giant ego says mode. I made a mistake by not explaining this well. The amazing thing is that the more the government passed these laws in the middle of a pandemic. They just quickly passed it without any discussion. You could have gone to people talked about it Godfrey back because these are long term proposals proposals now laws that affect the approximately 800 million Indians who depend on farming for a living. There's been a lot of confusion. Farmers here in Western India don't have the same concerns as in the north of the country, but that didn what model? Is it? Me getting shit carry those air. The rich farmers from the north you see protest, Ng says a tomato farmer here named um, but a sun up. He's got nine family members to feed. He can't afford to take a day off to protest. The protests have been dominated by farmers from northern India, the country's bread basket. They grow mostly grain and rely on government markets. More than a tomato farmer like sun up who can sell out of the back of his truck. Northern farmers see these laws is the first step toward dismantling all the aid they've gotten since the Green Revolution. Including price guarantees for wheat, rice and 20 other crops. I'm your bony I mean about me, but not for my tomatoes. Sun up, says he's never been eligible for the price guarantees that wheat growers get a majority of India's farmers or not. Meanwhile, farmers in several states are already circumventing these government wholesale markets and have been for years well, These conveyor belts are moving quickly. This produce packing collective started more than a decade ago, when eight farmers banded together. Now it has a sprawling campus. It's co owned by more than 10,000 farmers. This is the man on I think Chambers Banana ripening chamber. This collective bypasses government wholesalers and sells directly to stores. The last Shin Dae is the founder. Market is ready to pay me back better place then I should capture that market is rapper Depending on government. He says he got fed up waiting decades for government reforms, so he took matters into his own hands and started this collective. For others, the pandemic has forced them to consider new ways of selling their produce. So these air your grapes here's yes. Yes, grandfather and then grape farmer Abby shake shall kisses. His harvest came right when government run wholesale markets closed last year because of Cove. It Actually long known there was opportunity. So he and his friends all farmers in their twenties who've gone to college, started selling on Twitter and got more for their produce. Abby Shake says his heart is with his fellow farmers who've been pro testing even if they don't share all the same concerns. His head, he says, is on how to solve some of the inefficiencies he sees in the way his forefathers have long done business and he doesn't really trust the government to do it when I'm just out to get the amulet and the mighty by it guys out the causal Calabrese. I think our generation is going to have to try to figure this out, he says. Lauren Frayer NPR news in Nash IQ. Maharashtra, India
Biting the Lion
"Biting the lion. Once upon a time there was a mighty lion named hari. He stood taller than a man. His for was as gold as honey and his teeth were as white as milk. Each paul was bigger than a dinner plate and tipped with claws sharper than a steak knife. He moved so fast he could run down a cheetah and his jaws were so strong he could bite a boulder clean in half and that was on a bad day. I'm the biggest. I'm the baddest. I'm the king of beasts. He would roared anyone who got in his way he was always shouting at the other animals and anyone who dared to stand up to him would get swatted with a massive paw and sent rolling into the dirt. Finally after years of abuse. The other animals all got together to figure out a way to get hari. The lion to stop knocking them around. That lyon needs to be stopped. Said an antelope when all the animals had gathered. But what can we do. Honk the warthog. Yesterday he made me eat a dirt sandwich. I mean i like sandwiches generally but the dirk was a little dry would have been better as a mud sandwich. Nothing like a good mud sandwich. A specially when you get all the worms in their wriggling out a little gravel to mine too for some crunch sandwiches. Aside purred the tiger. We need to stand up to this bully. If we don't he'll just keep on bothering us for ever. He thinks he's so funny. Cackled a hyena. He grabbed my pond. Slapped my own face with it. He kept saying. Stop hitting yourself stopping yourself. I tried to stop but he was so strong. He said i must like it. If i'm laughing but i can't help it. That's just what i sound like. He said i was too small to even bother picking on buzzed and that he called me a big green noodle said the anaconda slithering out of some sticks debate off by tail added zebra. It wasn't much of a tail but it was all i had out of nowhere. The lion landed next to them. With a thump his claws were out and his eyes were flashing dangerously. Did i hear you nerds talking about me. Hari said you think you're better than the king of beasts. Just leave us alone said the antelope. Just leave us alone. The lion said back mocking. He pushed her shoulder and sent her tumbling into the dirt. I'm in charge here and don't you forget it. You shouldn't be so mean. The warthog said oh. I shouldn't the lion asked. Sounds like someone wants another dirt sandwich. Like to see you try ari. The warthog said backing up and shaking. His long tusks hari roared and prowled up the wardhaugh grunted and charged forward his sharp tusks low and deadly before he could get close though the lions swat it out with one hulking. Paw it caught the warthog across the rump. And he went rolling a mud ball into the bushes. Ha ha hari roared anyone else. Want to challenge the king of beasts. How about you stripes. He asked zebra care for a rematch. If you win a find new tail for ya. The zebra looked away but the anaconda slithered up your big. But i am longer she said i think it's time for a new king of beasts one who isn't such a big arrogant puffball arrogant snarled. Hurry you better. Tell me what that means right now. It means your vain and selfish. And you think you're the most important thing in the whole world. I don't think it i know it. Hari said looking one pond and slicking back his tawny main nod for long the anaconda said she began to call herself layer after layer of scaly green winding in a big circle around the lion. He spun in place watching for her diamond head. Her clever is and long forked tongue. That seemed to flicker the air with a sudden crack. The anaconda pulled herself tight her body. Like a not around hurry. The lion with a hiss. She began to squeeze good. Try hari grunted. But your just a big noodle. He opened his mouth and wrapped it around the anaconda with a roaring slurp he pulled the snake off of him and then spit him in a sopping. Wet pile so much for. The noodle king hari laughed. I'm the biggest. I'm the baddest. I'm the king of beasts. You may be the king purred tiger dangerously. But maybe it's time for a queen. She padded out to stand before the lion. She was nearly as big as him with blazing orange for and wicked curving teeth. I won't put up with your bullying anymore. Come on then. Hari said show me how. A queen fights with matching roars. The pair slammed together. This was the most fight they'd seen by far and it was quickly a rolling flashing a flailing gnashing tornado of for and teeth and claws. The other animals backed away as the two big cats battle each other spreading sweat and spit across the ground. When they finally crashed to a halt hari was the winner and the tiger sprawled at his feet.
Harry and Meghan Are Begged to Delay Oprah Broadcast While Prince Philip Is Gravely Ill
"The united kingdom. The uk is begging harry and beckoned to postpone the oprah interview as his ninety nine year. Old grandpa is still in hospital. So let me explain prince philip. That's the queen's husband. He's ninety nine years old. He's been in hospital now for a few days. He's being transported to a different hospital in london. That's not a good sign. All of this comes. Of course leading up to harry a meghan. Big towel with oprah. That's going to add on sunday night. God forbid anything happens to philip. We should be realistic here. Without being doom and gloom. He's nineteen nine years old. he's in hospital. We know we know so. Should they postpone. What do you think mistake. They're in a tricky position. Well you know. I love television so first of all. This interview is happening with oprah and it set to air on cbs. This sunday march seven. Now originally it was ninety minutes long. But it's so juicy so good that the network extended it to two hours which means when they have commercials on it. Those thirty second. Ads can cost two hundred thousand charlotte. So there's money on the line here and it's like you said it's tricky prince. Philip makes it through sunday and they allow the show to air and they go back to london. Of course people are going to be incense that they gave this interview. We know we've been teased. That megan is asked if she has been silent about here experience with the royal family or has been silenced. This and there's no holds barred so people are actually asking fans on twitter and social media are seeing to please. Cbs postpone it. But like i said it's all about the money so it's a very very very tricky subject. It isn't it and also we've worked in tv misty. So we know the hosts the people the guests on the show them no power. It's the network that decides even harry and meghan decided that they'd made a mistake. Want to postpone it for a little bit. They've got no say in that. Cbs has scheduled this. That'd be a two hour hole in the schedule more importantly. Cbs would have to give all the advertising money back. Because they're charging a higher rate to advertise on the meghan. And harry and oprah show then they would on the regular show that as their on sunday night oprah has been teasing this gayle king. Her best friend has said. It's the best interview. Oprah has ever done oprah said to meghan. You've said some pretty shocking things here. I don't know with oprah's overplaying this normally. She doesn't or if this is going to be as explosive as we think it is just such a bad time for

"These. The King of dogs dogging. Dog King He's the King of done his. Dog His father king. A. King of dogs. His Bite is worse than his bark. Because he bites like a shark. You know he's ruling the streets dog. He won't roll over for treats his mother. His father was a king. So now he's dog. and. He's King of the. Dog. A. Today we find dog King King of the dogs sitting on His throne gazing out at his kingdom. Of course, His throne is actually less of a throne and more of a lumpy bumpy mattress someone throughout and forgot about and sure his kingdom is less of a kingdom and more of a dirty trash strewn alley between two laundromats. But this time of year for this one perfect special day all the dirt and grime and gnawed bones and cobwebs actually seemed right at home. Happy Halloween everyone he called out and all the gathered dogs howled in response. Usually the Allie was full of pups of all shapes and sizes from leaner wieners to Husky Huskies, mob, Ish Matz and tiny terriers, doughy Dalmatians and lazy labs but not today instead, the Costume Party was in full swing and the Allie was full of Pudgy Pumpkins and Zuma's zombies, pauling pirates and whizzing wizards, pretty princesses and terrible trolls and all kinds more. Some costumes were put together out of gathered garbage and others were bought at the store by owners, but the dogs loved them all just the same. Dog King himself stood tall and shaggy his cardboard crown gone for the day. In its place, he wore a cardboard astronaut helmet. He'd found in a gutter. It was painted bright and orange and the little visor was up. So his snoot could pick through. Pickles he said what's on the royal schedule today. A shaky little Chihuahua dressed like Ariel, from the Little Mermaid poked his head up out of the bike basket where he had been napping. The little puppy was dog king's royal assistant mostly because he refused to let anyone else do the job. He was the smallest dog in the alley but despite that or maybe because of it, he had the biggest personality. It's Halloween. Clean. The chihuahuas said in his spookiest voice. We have the costume party now until dark. Excellent Doug King said. That's all until tonight going back at the kids and their customs. Oh I love a good bark said Rambo the Rusty Brown pit bull. He was dressed like dracula, but he had swallowed his fake fangs almost as soon as he had put them in. He was scratching one ear and trying not to think of how they'd be biting him back later that night. I see a Frankenstein, and I just go at him I. Think those boats will hold your big flat head on now chance I e bolts for breakfast. Then I throw him up for lunch and I am again at. You. Shouldn't need bolts dude said, Luke. The Golden doodle wearing oversized sunglasses and a big Hawaiian shirt. Trust me man stick toe pumpkins those go down smooth. Said pickles. PUREE mixed in with A. Boring. Rambo that's because you're very sick which. Be Real to me just because you eat your own flair. Said Rambo I would never eat my fleas. There's some of my best friends. Allied Fleas said Dexter the bulldog as he stopped by. He was wearing a giant hot dog costume with fake strips of ketchup and mustard going down his back. It was a well done costume which was obvious because the other dogs kept trying to take a bite out of it. Got To be careful with Halloween. Though most of that stuff will run through your faster than a mailman when you come barking out the gate. That's a good reminder. Don King said to them, and then he turned and called out to everyone. Remember Joan need the Halloween Candy. It's good for humans, but it makes dog sick. You got that right said, Rambo, I stole era I tried some of my kids chocolate last year. I got so sick they had to bring me to the vet. The Vet said Broadway in the giants. Saint Bernard. She was dressed as Rapunzel with a bunch of old mop heads tied together into a long yellow wig. Oh I just hate the vet. Meet too broad. Win Said Rambo. May Three said pickles you bite them one. Maybe a dozen times and all of a sudden you got to wear a muzzle like some kind of. Like some some kind of. Back. Don King. All the rest started laughing and then knotted hello to cranberry the cat. The little rescue was still no bigger than a kitten and she were big fake floppy ears and an old spiked collar. cranberry pickle said happily wagging his tail inside the Shiny Green Tale of his mermaid costume. Luck, great. What are you supposed to be? Oh. I'm Rambo the dog. The cat said in a fake growl what love fired park. That's offensive said, Rambo Wolfing farting in barking as he walked. They all laughed again and then they heard terrible howl. Not. The typical mad at the moon how will or the happy Halloween Spooky Howell but a genuine something's very wrong. No howl. O. It was Anne the well groomed chow with her blow dried red for and her bobbing pink bow she had been dressed as a unicorn but her plush suit was crooked and her horn was dangling by her tulip ears. and. He Don king cried. He leapt off his throne ran through the party to meet his friend. What is wrong? Are you? Okay? Oh dogging. She wind shaking all over. was. Terrible. What was it? Annie growled Rambo. If anyone was mean to you, I'll give them such a bite that my grand puppies will be chasing them. It wasn't a skill. She said leaning against broad wins broadside. US. Huge skelly tune.

"CLEVELAND. RIGHT IN CLEVELAND. Lebron never said a word by. Never. Did all right and I don't judge him for that. He had just gotten back to town rightly just got to Cleveland. Their relationship is tenuous who knows exactly how it goes who knows if he helps anything by doing this right but it was a business decision I don't think there's any question that that was a business decision that he made around. And so all these people that all of a sudden I can't listen to Lebron nomo because he ain't saying nothing about China right here. Really about principal he's about money not said a word about that when he didn't say nothing about a little boy gins shot in the city that he plays it y'all ain't say a word about that and you know why? Because you think his money was worth more than that little boy whether you want to say. That out loud or not. That's all that can come down to because if your argument is I, no longer thing Lebron is standing on principle dad was within the same damn issue and he could not stand on the principal or more accurately did not stand on the principle within that and is not a single one of these. What about China concern trollers say nothing about him not saying the thing about this twelve year own his own backyard getting Q.. Noni. All said a word about that. All right. But again I get it is a business decision and he decided that for whatever reason that wasn't his fight. And he gets the decide. That's not as fight and the willingness to take one fight does not necessarily require you to come out here and take. Oh, on every single fight. I one, hundred percent get but the reason that Lebron wants to be Muhammad Ali the reason we remember Muhammad Ali is that in that moment, Muhammad Ali would not have made a business decision. And that's just now you. and. That's fine. Not Saying a bad word about him but Muhammad Ali. Hey there he had a chance to make a business decision and he did not win the most dire. Of circumstances right and I want to tell you a while I'm telling you that I'm not judging. Lebron, on this I, want explain to you part of why in this comes from my father again, who I mean if you've ever listened to me talk about my father I, revere my parents in an uncommon way I suppose L- man, there's a lot but anyway, my dad said something in an interview once that I thought was really really interesting. And he said that one thing that he has stopped doing over the years he says is that he's not nearly as judgmental of people who make some of these decisions that come out there because he said he was talking about when he got put out on college and he said that he really really harshly judged the president of the school and he said he just president of the school because he believed that look man the stakes stakes. Right you do what's right and it don't matter what comes on the back end you do what's right and he said. He now understands that things aren't really that simple anything he said was now I've gotten older and I've had time to think about that a little more and I suppose my views are temperate a little bit but I came out of his expulsion with the understanding and I didn't have the understanding before because again, my own father was a figure that and I had known situations in which the risks were diet indeed. But he would draw the line and we assume I assume that you did that and you dealt with the consequences right so even my father who felt that way his whole moments can step back and look at these things and say. Now people got different things they got to do right. So I want to be clear to you not judge Lebron by saying that he's not radical enough to be Muhammed Ali, but he's not a radical so you can't be Mohammed. Ali. Period. Now. Here's the other reason why can't be Muhammad Ali and this is going to be the trickiest one. He too old to be Muhammad Ali like one thing we don't really do we as. The broad is being old and we shouldn't. He's thirty five years old right like that is not add up to being. Per Se. However. How old was Mohammed Ali When he stood a to the draft board how old was he when he had his boxing license stripped? Was, twenty. Five. Years Twenty five years old. Like when Ali won the championship in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty was in nineteen, sixty four. He's twenty three. Twenty two. He's at a different age at that point. Thirty five with all these kids and everything else. I Lee. Anywhere he was. He was a much different place in his life that Lebron was and didn't have all this money. He didn't have all these things to protect. He didn't have all these business relationships and he had the fire of somebody in their early twenties. That's not where Lebron is Lebron. Bought away. He had a chance to be alid is early twenties. If you wanted to be, you remember that time to I renewable came to him in the locker room when he played for the cavs with the petition about for Nike because of their relationship what was going on Dr Four in Sudan and the Brown was like no I need to research a little more and you think about this little. More no shade man. You got this money tied up with Nike Does Your Business Partner I totally understand I got no judgment Lebron in the course of doing that. But that was the time to make an Ali moves that was the age to make an Ali move look around at all these things that we've seen happen in these places the people who were at the front of pushing these things how many of them are thirty five years? Oh Exactly who the faces that like the black lives matter organization our stuff like that. But like when you look at it within these corporations, the people who have been making these pushes to get things change. Those people aren't those people aren't Lebron's age. Those. People have been younger. Those are the ones who have a tendency to power these sorts of things. So think about this I don't know if you guys seeing King in the Wilderness. Hbo Documentary about when Martin Luther King went to Chicago by the last eighteen months of his life and so we're talking about. Nineteen, sixty, six through early nineteen, Sixty, eight. So late nineteen sixty, six, Martin Luther. King is thirty seven years old one of the things that keep in mind. Late nineteen, sixty, six, right we're one year after the Voting Rights Act Right? So it's not like king was like wildly irrelevant at that point. But late nineteen, sixty, six, early, nineteen, sixty, seven, they got clips in the duck of King and still car Michael because now the push come from stopping the pushes come for rap and all those dudes felt like it was time for more militant movement that they've gotten as far as they could with the nonviolence and one of the most fascinating things about it was they show king and stokely walking like in a Martian that'd be a reporter walking in between them and the report would ask question and stokely had all the fire, right? So they put the microscope. It's say all the things and all the fire whatever. and. Then they come back across the king and King was always very careful not to chastise stokely or to say this dopey was wrong but he always said something.

"This is the TIC TAC video right that they referred to that none of it looks like it's GonNa more or less just the report. The New York Times published a thing said. Of. The? Pentagon. This is their headline was gone announced that they have they have ships not from this world. But if you read the article, that's just click bait because what it really is somebody who worked there the same as what's that guy's name? Bob Lazar exactly. Yeah. It's just another one of those guys saying to what I was saying before is like this went away so quick. Yeah. It went away so quick and that's fucking nuts because we should be paying attention to aliens. What you just said contradicts that that's what I mean yeah, that's my back. Some crazy. That's why I don't believe. Right? That's because it's It's a click. Bait Click Bait article to get you interested into reading it but really it's nonsense. Yes. Hope you abduct violent. I'll fucking believe and I hope they want to believe knock you out and just get probed. You're wide awake. Stop broken please keep probing me. Brought me deeper. Okay So. Is No longer in the shadows Pentagon We'll make some findings public for over a decade the program now tucked inside the office of Naval Intelligence has discussed mysterious events in classified briefings. This game the twenty third. This is when we were July twenty seventh trip right That's. That's my point and we heard nothing about it since then I remember saying it in the car like. Aliens in the nothing else happened it wasn't on the news wasn't anywhere. So despite Pentagon statements that had disbanded a once covert program to investigate unidentified flying objects, the effort remains underway renamed and tucked inside of the office of Naval Intelligence officials continued to study mystifying encounters between military pilots and unidentified aerial vehicles. Pentagon officials will not discuss the program which is not classified but deals with classified matters, yet it appeared last month in a Senate committee report outlining spending on the nation's intelligence agencies for the coming year. The report said the program, the unidentified aerial phenomenon taskforce was quote to standardize collection and reporting on sightings of unexplained aerial vehicles. So I Like the grazer coming with my bet I'm not worried about it. I like I said I don't I. This is just another guy. Coming out and saying this, it's not an official report. It's nothing like that these videos that they put out these unidentified videos. Something being unidentified does not make it. An Alien, it makes it unidentified and that means you Russian Bro could be any could fuck it like that tic TAC video could have been a drone, right? Yeah. Didn't they go from? Thirty thousand feet, six hundred feet, and are you sure of that? Crazy just went impossibility when I I can't remember pilots name. But when he was talking about on the Rogan podcast, he was saying how who? The pilot, the pilot who tend Oh. Okay. All right. Yes we. The. Film but he was like a pretty high up right I. Know I think he was on the plane where the camera footers is running because he said, he saw it and then in a blink of an eye, this thing like. fucking gone. You know the thing is though is like right now both Adam and you have said things that you think you remember. And we have the Internet we look at but I'm saying we might be a waste people's time. No no, but listen I'm saying we might be misrepresenting the actual facts, right? So probably do that a lot that but that's my that's my point. Exactly is that we're talking about aliens right now and we think we remember what somebody else said about it, and that's what we're coming to the table with..

Guy but the game the cerebral assassin that triple h He's absolutely up there. Triple H and Stephanie. Together as heels as Bearded Gordo points out Bra he. He's had so many runs as a wrestler and I understand how big people are pointing out I under. I understand how big the ex was for him. I'm not saying that. And there are parts of the X. I do really like him. In China early days DX here for it As it went on it wasn't as much for me but so I'm talking. Yeah by the way and as as Mr Ortega points out sledgehammer alone got over. He had a weapon. Everyone knows the weapon. No one else can use a sledgehammer. You see it. It's triple h the game. The king of kings the cerebral assassin hunters Helmsley. Triple H Hunter Paul Leveque. The man has more names than anyone in wrestling forgetting. Any of the nicknames. You add this whole thing up. He's the father of NFC most of the things that we see on television that we really love in. This era is a triple h creation. It's ridiculous so I mean you. Can you can choose to dislike triple. H If you want I know listen. I'm sure there were times when maybe he was more difficult. My experiences with him have always been wildly positive. You know so. Then there's another part of it. Which is that when I see him personally. The things that I talk about when I have seen triple agent at time to talk to him are always just wrestling. He just he loves to talk about the actual craft of wrestling my favorite conversation. I don't know if I've ever seen on the podcast before my favorite conversation I ever had them was. I walked by. I walk past him in guerrilla. I was on my way to go out to rehearsal or something like that and he was in gorilla and we stopped and had a little chat and I wanted to just chat him up about Gargano Giampa and how the storyline had played out. 'cause it was it was right after the the match where. Gargano had completely lost it and basically had become a bad guy. Himself and CIAMPA was one begging and we talked about the development of that story which I knew was his baby and this is a guy who in you just want to like. Pick his brain about like nerdy inside wrestling bre. He is so therefore it like that is that is just what he wants to do. Like he is culturally so connected to it and loves it so much still you know. It did not become a just a job for him. It really still feels like something. He loves which frankly is one of the things is. Wwe Fans that we still hold onto. Is that like we know as long as triple H is around. There is the mind of someone who loves the business the way most of us has fans do. And that's why I bring up a guy who was trained by killer. Kowalski that connection to the old school so listen I know one triple? H isn't getting a PITY PARTY FOR NOT GETTING ENOUGH CREDIT OR PEOPLE. Not Loving him enough. He's been incredibly successful. He's over he's maybe the most successful person ever who started out as a wrestler in the business. I mean he he. You couldn't do better than he's done but I will take this moment to say and again. I understand my implicit bias from working for the WWE. But let's just take a moment to appreciate him him being around and and what he can inject to it And you know he's had his moments we know like all he wasn't into punk and you know there are things that people say but ultimately in the end this is sort of like his father-in-law he will always end up making more more so than his father in law will make the decision to be like in spite of how I feel about it. This is what it is this is what's over and I'm not saying that he was like that his career. Because how do I know I mean I I? I don't know what he was like as a thirty year old but right now he's the guy who ultimately will always do the right thing and end up giving people the opportunity and when you look at the greatness we see at annex t. I mean frankly. Nfc from wrestling boys the best wrestling show on TV at has been for a long time and aws and change that in terms of wrestling show. So I if today's the twenty fifth anniversary you have to take. It's like how on. Espn right now. We spent up until the draft spent a lot of time talking about the last answer documentary because there's no live sports. Well there is live wrestling. But it's not quite the same so I thought it's a good reason today to reflect back on on triple h And sort of the greatness that he brings to the table Go subscribe to cheat. If you're watching a live and you don't already. I hope you will subscribe to cheat. listen to the. Podcast will be up in an hour. You'll hear the whole part with Sgi. And I think I might go do another little interview with someone right now. Also AAA does have Dj DNA mentioned the game. The song time to play the game motorhead has a great song as well so it. That's my my props to triple h portion of the show. I've tried to proceed a couple times and we are not able to catch each other. Which seems crazy during quarantine. Welcome to shoot Arab Baby Ho. Oh I'm sorry. Oh I'm sorry I'll oh I'm sorry that's how I feel about it. I do feel sorry. We'll get them on next week. We'll have more to talk about as we get closer to to money. In the bank there will be things to discuss. Today we had our tribute to triple h We say goodbye to Fred. The Godson who has in fact passed away You'RE GONNA do. I'M GONNA end the show in a different way instead of closing out with our out tro. I'll I'll play the tro. No you know what I'm not. I'm going to skip the TRO and I'm GONNA play us out with this song that I made in two thousand eleven featuring fred the Godson and Daytona Produced by my friend came over and it was called back to school and yeah I think I want to close out with that instead. It actually has sort of a similar feel to the ultra of our show. Isn't that strange? So we'll close out with Fred. The Godson and say recipes I hope you guys stay major. Enjoy yourselves and take easy. And next week they'll be a lot more to do didn't even talk much about Dino Bravo episode of Dark side of the rain. I thought it was cool. Cool somewhat interesting. I feel the same way. About almost every every one of their episodes. They're good and I love the subject matter so I'm inherently interested. I always feel they come up short. Like there wasn't quite enough interviews or something like the stories just a little bit thin. Does that make sense? I enjoy them. But how would I not enjoy a documentary about Dino Bravo about new Jack about the brawl for all? That's the thing I of course I would. The subject is so easy for me to enjoy. That's what I'm saying but like there's something missing that that doesn't take it to the next place for me I do find it interesting thing about out of if you didn't see it. Rick Martel who basically knew him better than most obviously given the Montreal history wouldn't be interviewed in it and has barely spoken about and they they use a clip of his from a shoot interview from the Internet if years ago where he said some interesting stuff but they didn't have the interview with with Martel. Which did make me WanNa Talk Martell or at least here historian more 'cause he someone who hasn't come around at all but as far as the Bravo's story either listen. It was definitely interesting. See Pictures of me. Just know more about him you know. I should give credit to that. You know them. Always just call him all Canada's strongest man and all that stuff. I didn't know his history as a promoter in Montreal. I didn't know how big he was in Montreal. So all of that stuff was new to me. I can tell you in pretend I knew history. I didn't Obviously a new history prior to wwe but no idea what it was. It was interesting getting to see him in that perspective in that light and you know him in the rouge does kind of all came over at the same time That was cool. So it's worth a watch. It's worth a watch. I just think it comes up short of great If that makes any sense so everyone stage please take care of yourself. Please stay at home if you're in Georgia or Where's the other place that's opening up? What does it Colorado Behr? Do you remember the other opener? If you're in a place that's opening up.

"It's it's understated He really doesn't get the credit he deserves. I think I think what we had this debate. Though the Great Bret Hart debate that led to me you and the Brian Campbell dropping top tens I do believe triple h Was In my top ten. And I think that's that's ultimately where he belonging big about his longevity and how he threads together so many different eras of wwe. But he's a he's an important part in getting us to those arrows right even back when like when he comes in as the Connecticut Blueblood. He's in the new generation and you know the X. Feud with Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation is as much responsible for for pushing w into the attitude era as the Austin Three Sixteen Promo and the Rock and his feud with the Rock and getting through the attitude era than you know. He's the champ on hit their heads reign of terror in the ruthless aggression era while seniors doing his thing on smackdown. Think about annex t and what's happening with the future wrestling and his hand is is all the way in that will all of that so I mean you know you think about the accolades aside right and you know him literally climbed the corporate like you said you set that aside. Just you know what he's been able to do at his mind for it if you talk about him talk talk with him about wrestling you know. He's a historian he has A great sense of people's place in in the overall scheme of of how this this whole thing has evolved and then the evolution of wrestling again no pun intended. And so like he's very smart gum not in just the way that he's crafted his career but just in the way he's pushed everything forward. I think where you think about that. And just how the fact that he he never last that he always comes back. Know you talk about a guy like Cena's longevity it you know you talk about you know Hogan how long he's been doing even ric flair's ability to go through and defied generations of wrestling spanned across those careers. Triple H has that longevity to a great you know. He's he's in there with the undertaker out. Somebody like that. You know you think about some favorites and they were around for maybe an era Twenty five years is is a lot. It's as long as you've been making this point. Welcome to listen so much to say about right and just add this and then we'll bring in some other people but everything you just said is was perfectly said and you have to keep that in mind. I think the biggest things that work against triple h are actually the relationship with Stephanie. The fact that he married the way people view that And frankly the overseas the sort of over hyping of deacs over the years works against him in some ways for fans us. Dx can be like all right enough you know by the time they came back. The fiftieth time. I don't think about that to me when you think about triple H J. Of course you think about what the future looks like. And how great next he has been and that's right at the top but also thinking about a guy who wrestlemainia match with ultimate warrior who feuded with Owen Hart The Rock Stone Cold Steve Austin. All the way up to seth rollins and where we are today that the generations he's cross and his ability mankind him and mankind have incredible history his yet the amount of sheer great matches he put on. I don't even think about Dx like when the funny thing is when I picture AAA. I don't picture sort of goofy jokes and he's good at it. He's funny and I get that at a certain time. That made a lot of sense to me. I just think about that work and what he could do. In the ring with people The feud with flair the feud with. Hpk you know cover ears. The feud with Booker. T he really. He had amazing feuds with so many people as you do me a favor and And BE BE EASY. This we can be safe. Thank you take it easy. Stay may each on. I'm going to try to get a hold of the dippers in here. Take it easy as she. Alright thank you as she g. Let's keep it moving here. I WANNA give a shout out first of all. I know you guys know about this already. But episodes two three and four of the last dance on Sunday nine o'clock on ESPN on of the first ones. But one and two were amazing. You can catch the money. Spn Plus Three and four story of bowls Michael Jordan and their final run. Excuse me is just amazing and episode. Three focused on Dennis Rodman. They're just going to get better and better. I've heard literally gets better as the season goes on but I'm super duper excited about the last.

"The corporate partners and and contractual obligations and to the public and to to their workers. So you know if this person needs to take a break to like be socially Stated their family during this. Hopefully they can get that. Well it's going to be interesting as time goes on a like now listen. Wwe could luck out right in that things could get better and they don't have anyone else get sick and they keep moving forward right the PRI- The the thing is this. Though as Florida loosens its rains and allows more and more but Florida didn't announce reopening right not yet. I know Georgia Georgia Texas right. Yeah Georgia Texas. Did if it's just if just Georgia and Texas it'll be interesting to see how long. Ww goes this way. Because I was GonNa say when Florida reopens what would be fascinating is. My prediction is any of these states. That tends to open to quickly is going to have an issue right lane. And so it'll be fascinating if they if they reopen but then the state gets worse and worse it then puts. Wwe In a in a in a tough spot where it's like. How do you continue to go as the numbers arise you know like right now? They're actually in a better position because the state of the state is locked down and they're one of the only things going which limits their contact with even the exact world Exactly like how. How many people can there people really react? You know getting contact with Anyways as she g so we'll see how that plays out I I there's only one thing I'm particularly interested in right now in pro wrestling And that is and I don't want to give their pristine credit by the way but I will. I will say his his concern that he had a bout mania. I think mania turned out to be really good. My problem with no crowd is just week to week. Shows I think the pay per views I can actually get up for an event that has meaningful repercussions I can get up for but a match that Basically jobbers just doing what jobbers do against a bigger talent with no crowd there. That's that listen. Those matches already. Aren't that great to start out with. But I'M NOT GONNA lie as she G it's it's it's tough. It's tough watching. These shows week to week to watch kind of inconsequential matches with crowd. Well I mean listen. We did SORTA give devastation his credit on that back when he was making the argument that these week to week matches and shows are going to be tough. What am only they get mania? They'll be fine so I mean with them continuing this show on mentality you know this stuck in that limbo still of trying to get us to the next big shell which you know feels like it's going to be kind of awesome. This climb the corporate ladder money in the bank. That's I'm glad you said that. So that's the thing I'm interested in. That's the only thing right. Now that I'm into is like I will say for as much as there's a lot going on that I simply do not care about And I'm not talking about. Wwe I mean. I haven't even. I haven't watched ever since Chris. Jericho breathed on the Mike. I haven't been able to go back to eight W at all. I think he's still he's still dead. Don't commentary he was back again this week. Yup She's Louise so you know again. This is just it is what it is but I will say. I am excited about climbing the corporate ladder. I think this is actually a major idea and again it's being smart. It's taking advantage of what worked at mania and applying it to money in the bank and the theme is cool and they can have and they can fight all over the dam building as you do you know who's in the match I believe as of last night we had. Shane obeys. Learned the women's money in the bank match Asked if I'm not mistaken correct Jack I believe also qualified. Yup Dana Brooke Dana Brooke and then on the men's side Daniel I got it to on the men's side right now right no no no no no no it. Is Daniel Bryan Verse Ramos? Stereo verse Alastair Black Verse Apollo Crews Verse King Corbin or Drew Gulag verse. Tb So King Corbin Augulis. That's going to be determined on Friday so TVD do we think that TD is actually h age age. Who is that a rumor that is a rumor? Fueled by two things right number one last week on smackdown. Michael Cole made a point to to say that money in the bank is the only thing that triple h hasn't accomplished in his WW CAREER. Which is sort of true. I don't believe he's ever been universal. Champion either United States champion but I mean triple H is coming out for the big the big money titles at this point so those those are Kinda. He's done with that but money in the bank If he does find himself in that in that money bank ladder match. He's he's obviously a favorite right. What a weird wrinkle it would be. I'll tell you this in a time. In which things are weird and like. I said it's nothing's that easy and fans feel uneasy. It would be something that would be interesting. And he is someone. Who if he had the briefcase? It would be a weird wrinkle. You'd feel good about him every time he's holding the Mike and the empty. Pc Yeah he's he's GonNa be there all the time anyway. I don't absolutely hated. And here's the thing of the names that are in it in the men's match who's jumping out at you. You know the the only name here that you go. Oh yeah that's where we're at right now is Alastair Black. Yep and I'll be honest you know. I love Alastair Black but For TV week-to-week entertainment purposes. I think triple h will be more interesting right now. I agree and I mean just in terms of the match right if the thing is to get to the roof and that cloud ladder and pulled on the briefcase. I mean who knows that building triple H. I mean. The man's the man's been climbing the corporate ladder for years and years and years light sobbing. I wonder so that these matches are supposedly done. Oh they've been take what I read. I read that this morning or yesterday but this morning i read that. They've been taped good. And then it took a lot of time and that it's shot very theatrically similar to wrestlemainia so perfect. Yeah I'm excited. I will for all time money in the batch. I'm excited I'm actually very excited about this match. There's things right now I'm not Uber excited about In in the world wrestling because I it's just Enter from sheer visceral reaction. It's strange time but I love the Dan. The second I heard climbing the corporate ladder. And they're going to be. I just always liked ridiculous before wrestlemainia. I always loved falls count anywhere and and and and old Bard and and and and back law brawls and the whatchamacallit room where where the boiler room mankind big show. What I love all of them I love Emmy get me get us to a place. That's weird and wacky. I find it to be one of the charming and funny and sometimes really good ways to do a professional wrestling match and this in particular. Also I'm ready for a change for money in the bank. We've got a lot of ladder matches over the years a lot. It's kind of cool to break it up a little bit especially this year when everything that's going on is so weird. Would we really be psyched up right now? If these same competitor just had a ladder match right now probably not in the PC. Wow I'd be watching. Listen they're gonNA get me for the pay per view. I'll be locked into every day purview but I more excited about it being this now as she gee. There's not a lot to do today so I'm going to call a couple of other people and get some takes on this subject but I want to ask you before that Cup. Just real quick. It's twenty five years. Triple H on smackdown this week. Where do you put triple h in the in the big picture of pro wrestling triple h His his value. Obviously I feel like he's tricky one right because in some ways his his importance to the game no pun intended gets overstated and a lot of ways..

"The appropriate protocol. No one would be fired if they will uncomfortable. With this surroundings we've made accommodations for individuals upon request. So I mean at this time. It's not known but obviously having that statement be made in such a Public Forum. It drew the eyes of the world at least of the State of Florida again. So the wwe in terms of what their door with regards to to this curl virus outbreak. We have any idea who's no idea no idea and I mean w e tonight this and what we know about how. They're handling the situation that they are taking precautions. Screening everybody that comes in they limited. You know there's no audience they limit who who's on on the basis of you know whether whether or not they need to perform but this person seems to be less. Let's assume it's true right as a tough spot because you know technically. Nothing's happened yet. He's afraid that he might lose his job if he speaks out. But but you know he has. It hasn't spoken out so anybody. Wwe So you know what are they to do about a situation that this far as they knew didn't didn't exist. Sorry I'm just seeing a story right now. That's not true is it? Is it not wrestling related? What is it about twitter? Twitter is saying that fred the Godson died from corona virus. Lots but there's a story from fifteen hours ago. That said he was turning the corner. It said he lost his fever yesterday. Heartened vitals showing positive signs. So I'm I'm hoping that's not true and by the end of the podcast apparently. Dj Self posted at you. He had asthma. Which would make it. Make him more susceptible. Obviously things crazy. Bro Really is oh man I was. Just we're just getting started trying to do a show with Nothing overly depressing today So as you what are people saying? Well I'll get back once I confirm this Let everyone know All the hip hop heads listening. No but when what are people saying about this story with with ww? I mean there's no way that all fits if it's true right it could've been. It could be a real a real employee. Complaint that was asked to be kept anonymous. That could be like somebody. Submitted it anonymously But yeah this just this just has people going back to that. That place of you know these this call for. Wb The to do something different with the shows. You know because the stay at home owners. Obviously we're already declared an essential business so they're not going to close down anytime soon but I mean I dunno ws denied it. Hopefully if this is an actual employee who was actually in fear for their lives now that the situation has been made public you know they can come forward and either get a break or get what. They need from the company without fear of repercussions once. They do that whether also needs to do that can can get what they need to. Because I mean listen. There's some superstars who are even like. I'M NOT GONNA be performed like this. And then they haven't been you know famously. Roman reigns who I get it. Everybody does not mean what Roman reigns needs to the company. So everybody can't just say I'm GonNa do this but I mean at least publicly and openly. It seems that there's they have been trying to thread the line between their commitment to their.

"Holes in one are funny. Most of us don't even know the plural form of the term is it hole in ones or holes in one. Maybe we struggle with that because people never even achieve. Plural aces are hard to come by. At least they're supposed to be if I didn't know it was true. I might even questioned. I mean the bottom line. It makes no sense. I've played a tone of Gulf. Haven't even come close number twelve player in the world. Zander Shaw Fleet. He's played thousands upon thousands of par threes. He made his first ace just last year. So how is it a sixty six year? Old Man from Texas came to be known as the King of Aces. I kinda got paid the party and tall and hit a seven in that thankfully I was pretty good at all. Three Josh sends track down. This walking statistical anomaly to find out Josh. Have you ever made hole in one? Sean have made three holes in one. Yeah I can remember them all vividly and they all had witnesses. Can you rattle through the details on them for me? Yeah I one was about twenty years ago. I was playing in a fairly big money match with some poker player. Guys I knew were playing two man game. The reason I remember the two man game is because I made a one. My partner made a seven and we lost the hole. The second hole in one was in Montana at the Yellowstone Club is very high end private club in the mountains about to a short par three at elevation and it was a beautiful scene because it was a whole that played over a gully and there were two baby moose grazing in the gully and I hit my shot nice little lazy draw bounce one hop in I just raised my hand and said hole in one and my wife looked up from the car. She was just staring at the medicine. She said something like that that good and then the third one came in November of two thousand fifteen. I remember because it was shortly after my dad passed away. And I'm not one of those sort of point to the sky kind of athletes but it definitely had one of those feelings. I had an eight iron in the tournament and I had a shot into the sun. Couple of hops. I didn't see it go in. I was blinded by the glare but that felt like a pretty meaningful moment as well. Okay I'm glad you mentioned multiple aces. Tell me who is Mansfield Davis? And how did you come across him? Yes Mansell Davis is known as the King of Aces. I was asked to do a story. Just about the whole in one tradition. Whether you're really required to buy drinks after after you make a hole in one and so just googled who's made the most hole in ones? I figured I'd ask that person what his thoughts are and up came. Mansell Davis. You're looking at a young man with establish our record concerning my questions that you making fifty one official holes in one didn't answer my questions truthfully. Yes they did not get the million forehead. So I'll behave. He's a West Texas guy. Grew up in a Desa Texas. He's in his sixties. Now he was. He was a teaching pro for many years aspired to be a PGA tour player and did play but mostly a club pro who was then discovered and became a personality on the whole on one circuit. Moment you arrive at a million dollar hole in one shootout. You'd know you're about to experience something far different from the typical charity or corporate golf event in that capacity he traipsed around the country as the King of aces wearing a purple robe and crown entertaining crowds and making lots of holes in one along the way. Wait the king of Aces. How many are we talking about? Mansell Davis has fifty one aces. How as you might imagine this king of aces got his start at an early age making his first ace at just eleven years old golden acres country club which doesn't even exist anymore in Odessa I want to say it was a three iron one hundred sixty seven yards and it was actually a good shot. That one was It was a little draw shot as I recall and it skipped and rolled in the whole within a year. He had made eight of them and that caught the attention of the local paper. That story went on the wires and by the time he was twelve years old and he had eight holes in one already. He got called by. Cbs where you're from Texas. You certainly are are. They had a show called them. I've got a secret that was hosted by Steve Allen. You're looking at a young man related young man who was established a record that will make grown men. Cry You whisper to me. We'll show our audience. Just what established your record in another? He gets a pretty funny clip. That captures era for sure well would make grown men cry some of them. You've been married fifteen times. Is it some sporting things? I'm athletic. Do Your feet touch the ground? Do you run. No Ma'am Walk. Yes ma'am and this part. Part of the reason why people couldn't guess his secret was because it's hard to believe it sounds ridiculous. I tend to think people probably weren't rushing to believe him either. Where THEY JOSH? There were doubters. There have always been doubters. He said even when he was a kid after he came back from New York and he made a bunch of aces he'd be playing at the local club whereas parents belong in Odessa. And you know people would treat him with a mix. It was either sort of awestruck and congratulatory like a man slowly kid going to make another ace or they'd be like hey kid urging another by the time he was twenty he had made he basically shot his agent in Isa's so he had as many aces as candles on his birthday. I talked to one guy who grew up with mansell a little bit older in Texas and saw Davis making two aces once when their kids in junior golf and the other when they were both working as assistant pros in Texas actually years later said the first one was a Karimov a tarp that was being used to protect the green and the next one he said Davis hit it totally fat the three would kind of worm burned up around the green rattle off the flagstick dropped Diseases were legit but as he admits you know they say a hole in one is a show with a lot of luck. I've been very lucky with. I'm good iron player. I tend to visualize more effectively on the par threes in the a good shot with a lot of luck. They say the average person making ace is twelve thousand. Five hundred to one mental Davis claims fifty one of them soon enough he turn all those aces into a legit revenue street. The moment you arrive at a million dollar hole in one shootout you know you're about to experience something far different from the typical charity corporate golf event. It's it's a very common situation now when you play in a corporate charity event to see a car or cash awarded for a whole one on a specific whole John Everhart basically invented hole in one insurance. If you're a golf course driving range owner looking to bring new traffic to your property. The whole in one shoot out has great great and distinct advantages for all in the next few moments. We're GONNA share with a terrific event at brings out a lot of people whether they're great. Gablers just beginners one of the beginners. Just just come to the woodland's from From Dallas Redmon the Trophy Club skip bayless. Oddly enough is responsible for summer but he had done an article there at the Dallas Times Herald was John. Everhart was starting to form. This company called National hole-in-one Association. Former editor of Golf magazine. Parker Smith was doing the public relations for him and marketing ideas and they read skip bayless article and decided to call me since. This is an Augusta national. In your typical hush-hush crowd event. The players are recognized and encouraged throughout the event by the official MC which happens to be yours. Truly Mansell Davis on this end better known as the King of Aces because I've been fortunate enough to score the PGA world record fifty holes in one in the next thing. I know I'm name the King of Aces and I'm kind of the spokesperson for this new company coming out and I'll never forget instead of a an annual payment or whatever I took a a percentage I said I'm already got a nice job at the woodland's and I'd rather you know go on on the com- I said I'd rather have a little piece of each policy. Hopefully you'll see what you like and folks we would love to come to your area and conduct a million dollar hole in one. Shoot at just for you. You know one of his jobs is the king of aces was to stand on a tee boxes tournaments went through and he hit a shot at the par-three and the group would get to play his ball. And if you made an ace at counted now it only counted as an official whole and one for him if he made it on the first shot of the day and that happened twice. He said when that happened as zoo to make it official he would have to wait for the tournament to go through You know sit there all day on the tee box hitting with every group and when the final groups that finished you would go ahead and finish his round to make it official as they named King of Aces that again. That was their deal. Unequivocally I'd ever nobody ever heard of King of aces and They did as my business card a play card in like I'm the king and they put me in a wooden throne and they had this purple robe with white I for and a gold crown. I mean in my Lillo fat dom my big fat face. It was not a pretty picture I kinda got paid to party and talk his seven iron and thankfully. I was pretty good at all three as with anyone who makes an ace there. Is this sense of share. Okay I believe you so josh with Mansell and his fifty one aces. Do you believe him. Please remain still. This portion of the exam is now beginning. Remember yes or no answers. Only we put them on a lie detector test. He has passed polygraphs. He has witnesses. Are you telling the truth? When you stated you have made fifty one official holes in one in your golf career. Yes you know. In addition to his passing the polygraph and having witnesses he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would lie about that. You have a plus twelve. Just scoring three charts. Plus four is passing so you have way more than you need look Hoodie do there enough Redo. I'm with Josh. I think we can happily accept massive Davis as the official King of Aces. I never could figure this out. We've had some psychiatrists actually do some brainstorming. My brainwave were discernibly different on a par.
"a. king" Discussed on Fresh Air
"From whyy in Philadelphia Interior gross with fresh air. Today Steven King tells us about dreaming up a viral pandemic for his nineteen seventy eight novel the stand and now living through a real pandemic. We'll talk about why covert nineteen is like the kind of evil entity king often writes about. He has a new collection of short stories called. If it bleeds the main character of the title story is Holly Gibney who was also in several other king books including the outsider which was adapted into an HBO series. That just ended a few weeks ago starring Cynthia revolt as holly in both stories. Holly has to confront the physical manifestation of Evil Stephen King coming up on fresh air. Life during the pandemic has been feeling like living in a Stephen King novel. So let's see what Stephen King has to say about it. He's my guest. About forty years ago in his novel the stand he wrote about a virus far worse than Cova nineteen ninety nine percent lethal and wiped out most of the population that virus was accidentally released by a lab. Developing Biological Weapons. Stephen King has a new collection of novellas called. If it bleeds that will be published April twenty first. The main character of the title story is private. I highly Gibney who was also a character in several other king books including the outsider which is adapted into an HBO series starring. Cynthia Revolt Holly. The series just ended a few weeks ago and is available for streaming and on demand if you have. Hbo Like in the outsider and if it bleeds. Holly is confronted by a force of evil. Stephen King. Welcome back to fresh air. I am so glad that you are well. Is this pandemic the closest thing you've come to living in one of your own horror stories. Well it isn't it isn't I had a lot of people Get in touch with me. After Donald Trump got elected and said this is just like The dead zone as a character in the dead zone named Greg Olsen who is kind of a an Avatar of the common man and he becomes a state representative and then he rises to the presidency. So this is the second time now that trump is actually president of the United States and there is a pandemic worldwide. I guess that's what pandemic means that it seems almost like those two books have cross pollinated. Somehow it's not very comfortable to be me. I keep Having people say gee it's like we're living in a Stephen King Story and and my only response to that is. I'm sorry it's not your fault. Is there anything surprising you about how you're dealing with the fear and anxiety of the pandemic since you created a far more lethal one? Well the strangest thing to me about the way things have played out is the fact. That people seem to fixated on bathroom. Tissue Toilet Tissue Toilet Paper As the focal point for their anxiety The shelves are totally empty of that stuff. And every time This stuff comes in it disappears again and I asked Somebody at the supermarket What is the deal with this? And they said we have no idea what it is because there's no shortage she's just that people are stockpiling that one particular thing but otherwise you know I see a lot of things that remind me of the stand obviously there's not been a worldwide panicked but in the stand People kept saying to the American public in the world public. Don't worry about this. It's just the flu everything's Okay and so when things and people die trying to escape from the city and the roads are crammed with Dead vehicles. None of that is happening. But when you see pictures of Times Square in New York or the freeways in Los Angeles you say yeah. This is really a something that we've never seen in our lifetime and I should mention if you want to hear Chapter Eight. It's it's on Youtube. The audiobook version of Chapter Eight which describes how the virus is spread in the standard on Youtube. But in the end the president says and we'll have a vaccine in a week. Are you reminded of things that you're hearing the kind of underplaying a fear and the optimism about how yeah we got a solution right around the corner? Here's the thing about covert nineteen something like. This was going to happen It was inevitable that this would happen When I wrote the stand I think it was in nineteen. Seventy eight and seventy nine right around. That time I went to rush door the new book if it bleeds is dedicated to Russ because after he retired from. His job is a physician's assistant. He worked for me as a research assistant for many years. In the stand was the first project we worked on together. And I said I'm looking for a virus that would be deadly. And he said well. The common flu keeps changing. It's a shifting adage in virus so that the shot never works two or three years in a row because the flu changes and you get sick and you have to get a new shot while there's no shot for covert nineteen yet because this is something that just sort of burst out upon us but it was bound to happen. Do is never any question that in our society where travel is escape bowl of daily life that sooner or later it was going to be a virus that was going to communicate to the public at large. So what you end up with is first of all we had a president and we had an administration was in total denial about this for the first vital period of time. Let's say January February March where the president is saying things like. Well don't worry about it. It's really no more than the common cold and his cheerleaders on the right side of the political spectrum are jumping in. And the most insidious thing about it is that you don't have just one typhoid Mary who can spread this because the disease is communicable but not active in that one particular person. You have huge numbers of people who are carrying this and they feel terrific. They're out there. So that for instance when President Trump says well. I'm not going to wear a mask. You might want to wear a mask. You might not. I'm not GonNa say that you should but probably you showed that sort of thing. The thing that that is not addressing is the fact that you don't wear a mask because you're afraid somebody else will make you sick. You wear masks because you might be a carrier and you might make them sick so this is a very difficult disease. I want to get back to how you're dealing with a pandemic. After having created one over forty years ago for novel you created like a worse case scenario pandemic that kills most of the population and then society has to basically rebuild itself. So like you built in fear. I mean you write horror stories. You write things intended to scare people. So how are you dealing with living with fear and anxiety? Well short answer to that is. I'm not what I'm living with and what I suspect. A lot of people are living with right. Now is cabin fever. Everybody sees the news reports. They see the hospitals that are crammed but they also understand that for most people. If they catch this thing they're gonNA kick the body is going to kick it out this going to be some mild symptoms. And then it's going to go away. You just hope that your on the good side of that equation and the odds are stacked in the favor of people who are going to get corona virus and survive it on the other hand. We realized that there are people out there. Like Adam Schlesinger. Who is one of my favorite composers who One of the founders and one of the creative forces behind fountains Wayne and he died at the age of fifty two so that it can happen. We all hope it won't happen to us and we take reasonable precautions but to be in the House Day. After Day all I can say is. I've made wonderful progress on a novel because there's really not too much to do and it's a good way to get away from the fear. It's not panic. It's not terror that I feel that I think most people feel it's a kind of gnawing anxiety where you say to yourself. I shouldn't go out if I do go out. I might catch this thing or I might give it to somebody else. I WANNA get packed with the idea of a virus. You know you write horror stories and a virus kind of perfect like you said you know viruses are shape. Shifter's they keep like the flu. Virus keeps changing every year too. That's why we always need new vaccines and viruses aren't exactly alive. Because they can't they need some kind of living cell to inhabit in order to survive so I think scientists say that viruses aren't really alive or somewhere between alive and dead. That's sounds kind of like a horror story. And the fact that they live in us and like we are their hosts and then they make sick and in some cases can kill us. That really like. That's the kind of thing you could have invented from scratch but viruses are real. Do you think of virus as being just like the essence of a horror story in how in how they work in us. Yes I do you know for years. I add one. Thank you see them like you. Sometimes about the kind of evil that like it can manifest itself in a presence it can manifest itself in a person but it exists as an entity exists just as pure evil to And with a virus like the entity you can't you can't see it unless it's an an body. I mean you could put it under a microscope but without a microscope. You can't see it you don't know it's there but it is that's like a horror story to it is and When you were talking about viruses not being alive or dead This really is like one of those Zombie movies. It's been living in the night of the living dead in a sense because the virus is just what it is which is something that's almost incomprehensible to us and it's incomprehensible science to which is one of the reasons why. I think people have to watch out for quack cures. That is because it's invisible because we can't see it. We hear these things on the news where they're saying. Look if you have to go out. Make sure that you don't touch your face when you come back and make sure you wash your hands. Be careful about taking off your shoes and when you take your shoes off put in a certain place and then wash your hands because you can get the virus on your shoes so that after a while I think that a lot of people in America maybe even a majority of people in America are living almost like Howard Hughes who had a article thing where all washing our hands. And it's easy to imagine Terry think of this. They could be on your hands right now. Germs viruses like wagon.

But the spirit heard it as well. She had given them what they'd asked for the leader they needed but apparently it wasn't enough for them. Oh Hey her. It's our new king said the bullfrog. The spirit has brought us the king. We deserve. He didn't know how right he was a second later. The shadow landed before them and spread. Its wings it wasn't a king but a bird a massive crane with an elegant neck and along hungry beak one of the grumpy frogs hopped up to it and bowed low. Greetings my Liege. The crane squawked bent down and swallowed the frog whole oh ono cried the bullfrog. The crane turned and let out a cry. That sounded like a t rex roar to the poor little frogs. It launched forward and gobbled up another of the group before the rest scattered in every direction. Run they cried everyone run. The crane darted among them swallowing grumpy group of frogs. One by one until only the bullfrog was left. He managed to jump inside the floating log. The spirit had sent and wedged way in the back. Go Away he shouted. Don't eat me. The bird balked and bore its beacon further snapping bear inches from the bullfrogs Saggy Lips. Stop Stall Up. He cried and then the water next to him formed a face. Oh this one. The spirit asked even as the crane screened and pecked harder ripping free a piece of old wood and nearly biting the bullfrog into it. In this one no please. The bullfrog whimpered pressing his bulky body into the water trying to the screaming crane beak as it snapped at him over and over but strong. Dare Shoe schlaize. He saw the crane finally smashed in and grabbed the bullfrog in its beak. No he cried. No WE DON'T EAT. King we don't need okay. The crane vanished in a puff of smoke and all the frogs it had gobbled reigned from its belly and splashed back into the pond. The bullfrog included. They dragged themselves wide eyed and sputtering back to the log. The spirit had given them so How did the king go? The Wardi Frog asked smiling around a fly. She was munching. Wow Law wouldn't you know it but we've come around to your way of thinking. The bullfrog said this here log will make up perfect king of the frogs right except you know queen of the frogs said the Wardi one Queen King. Either way is fine. The bullfrog mumbled bull like are. You sure asked the tree frog. We can always call the spirit back again. No that's quite all right. I think we're better off. Just you know having fun. The forty one offered yes Let's let's just have some fun. The bullfrog agreed then. He paused looking down at his big webbed feet We've never we've never had fun before. Could you maybe show us how? Oh love cars. She agreed and the rest of the day was spent teaching the grumpy group. How to play tag and hide and seek and Lily Pad leap and all their other favorite games and by the end. The grumpy group wasn't so grumpy and none of them wished for a king ever ever again the end.
