"To talk with you hi there what's going on buddy Hey I'm I'm just gonna say I don't even know if it's one word or two words popcorn ceilings well or otherwise known all A. K. A. A. K. A. acoustic ceiling yeah yeah bill this is nineteen thousand three yeah but that's that's kind of late for popcorn you know I started building houses in the seventies and throughout the seventies and eighties that's all we did when I started building let me tag along I started building very they we were putting sparkles in the popcorn ceilings remember those are you there what if we lost him I'm here in I don't know do you remember when you remember the sparkles we we used yeah I can we used to put little sparkles and popcorn ceilings do you remember that I remember the sparkles very well you bet yes yup it's amazing what we thought was pretty what's going on with yours Hey well it's a house we're trying to see what one of the latest like covers the ways to cover it up rather than take take it down which is too time consuming and dirty and messy what what about what what are some of the latest coverings for it I I we're looking we're we're pondering and we I. stap I don't know but I know who knows so that's why I'm calling yeah well the course the cheapest and quickest thing to do is to spray it with brand semi gloss or so actually satin would be better latex paint which will brighten the whole house of big time but if you want to cover it you can add a layer of quarter inch sheet rock right over it we don't want to use another layer of happens because it's it's it's it's more expensive that corner and she rock right over it and tape and texture that if you want to yup what is it is it is not something you would you can brighten the house up that's that's a distinct possibility we were both of the fire was looking at even talking about the pine hill you know the beautiful beautiful time kill worst of all of our western slope and and and making sure putting that up you know or things like that is that doable one okay the two oh sure yeah I mean you know you talk about more expense and and more time soon but I love that that pleasant grayish blue pine killer what do I think it's beautiful it would be better just he drank in the urine here and back in your in my day back you know twenty five thirty years ago when I was aspen aspen wood which was also gorgeous but yeah that beetle kill stuff is beautiful so I don't know I mean it depends how much they want to spend a much time they want to take but I think your art I think removing that stuff is problematic it just makes a mess and you might exposure self to express this and I I learned sometimes you have to re texture and re tape anyway so you have means spring it would the dilute solution of late acrylic latex corner and sheet rock or the wood with any of those would be a good choice depending on budget and all that correct other very help yeah we will it will be I didn't know about the pain that that that we we talk about regular price I don't know the pain but maybe a quick fix yeah thank I say modified just make it look less some people hello some people think that and maybe you had a little the painters tell me take your good acrylic latex paint instead of down with a little water which will help it get in the nooks and crannies better here's the thing with acoustic ceilings over time they pick up dust and pollution and they get grayish and dingy and they lose right this is so once you just put put new paint on there the groom brightens up and the and the ceiling becomes more of a a more attractive if you will so that's probably what I would do but I think you're smart not to not to remove it I think that's a that's okay to go it helps that into that too good good hearing from talking with you thanks for the help yes hello you got a very good to talk to you very Miller who does one of our real estate shows on the Denver station on K. how on Saturdays nice talking to you Elbert county Roger in Denver your next thank you for waiting hi all okay my neighbors got a problem with the flaking of his sidewalk to the drive way and he was want me to help impacted but I don't have the tools IT kind of Google that need said to ship out all loose out from now pour some stopover firm dispel quick job and maybe look good for a while you're out there that's right you you really need to to get it's really clean and dust free you can chip off the all the loose stop even use a wire brush Roger and then of the step I think is important is to use compressed air for a little compressor and just blow all the dust off of that and then they make a bonding liquid that you apply the bonding liquid and then a skim coat and the one I like the quick creek company on if you've heard of quick create it's called it's pronounced Q. U. I. I'm sorry it's pronounced quick creative spelled Q. U. I. K. A. R. E. T. E. S. it's a Denver based company they make a skim coat for concrete that works very very well and now it's on the sidewalk like that it'll do pretty well it doesn't work very well on driveways because of this the the tire pressure you know is a lot of terror but on a sidewalk you discriminate on the secret is to not make it too thick if it if it gets too thick it'll stay it'll start to crumble really easily so about a quarter inch or less skimming on with a trowel but the secret is wire brushing chipping whatever you need cold chisel and then compressed air to get that concrete scrupulously clean and it'll bond pretty well so that that'll work okay for you it's not a forever solution yeah but if you want something a little bit little last for your contractor that might be interested in that I have a website that you can go to and in the blog area you can there's a handy man mom and pop small companies listed there and you'll find one in that blog area just call two or three of them and yeah okay I I really don't want to get into it because if I mess it up then I'm not a friend of the neighbor more so how are you like tradition so that that kind of money skills Roger I just wanted to leave you with this you've heard the expression no good deed goes on punished so be careful be careful I'm good don't worry I've been been there too long to get burned okay Roger you're a good neighbor and a good and I'm glad you called thank you let's talk to John in Denver not John Denver but John in Denver and nice to have you with us on the program today hi John hi I got a question about building a duplex I bought these about three houses in Platt park thinking I would build duplexes in later I found out that you have to have six thousand two hundred and fifty square foot lot in order to build a duplex SO my very first house I bought twenty nine thousand one five six thousand two hundred fifty so how I'll still thirty thousand on that house and do you have the house paid for in order to get a a loan to build a house or duplex there's a lot of well if you want to you want to add a unit under your own house now or tear it down and start over now I have six houses I will not provide and that's the one that the rental in Burnham park qualify due plex I'm wanted to tear that house down and build a duplex hello I go to about that well here's a here's the thing it's the size of the lot is not the biggest problem the biggest problem is zoning is that zone for duplex for multi family you know what I do I think it is owned R. one here are two in most cities is the duplex in our two or three are are for is for Brett for collections and on and on depends on each city has a little different designation but this is this in the city and county of Denver you have a lot Estonia Bamber but there's a single family house on it but I'm pretty sure it's zoned R. one I thought if you had a six thousand two hundred fifty square foot lot you could build a duplex but I didn't think about this so no you can't no you don't you have to have the right zoning and you could double check call the zoning department in the Denver US cities as owning department I hope third maybe there I'm sure they're they're somebody's gonna answer the phone and double check on the zoning but that would be the big bugaboo and that to answer your question OB a bank would not want you to unlock the house down pretty much until you pay that loan off because that's their security so you would have to notify the bank that you are going to demolish the property and they would call the notes due when you pay them off and just start over but you can get a construction loan for the new building from the same bank or a different bank but you would have to liquidate that first loan unless well your relationship with the bank they could wrap the first loan into the second loan if you get what I'm saying you have to work it out with them but you can't just abolish a building without notifying the bank because that's their security but the thing you have to check John is the zoning and that's the biggest headache you're going to have so I appreciate your call before you go to our break I wanted to mention Brian at eagle crest reached out last week and told me that you know he's the concerned like everybody about this locked down and so on and he's really wants to tip his hat and Pat on the back to use a couple metaphors any health care workers in the in the city and the along the front range in the metro area so if you're a healthcare worker in a furnace issues you you'll get up to the front line no labor charge in parts at wholesale cost if you call eagle crest my buddy bye heating and air conditioning guy in Denver so give them a call at three oh three four five one five six zero seven there's plenty of equipment parts available and also humidifiers.

Julie Rogers okay let's take a look at I. thirty once again westbound Grand Avenue going to reckon two left lanes and a nasty back up from Luke twelve Buckner equally heavy delays on the eastbound side of I. thirty what yeah we're talking distance wise the paste is pace is a little bit better but it's just as backed up from about sylvan also a a word of a vehicle fire six thirty east six thirty five I'm sorry east at Centerville Ferguson I got the word there from Brad on the traffic tip line however it looks like this fire's been put out but you've still got the right lane blocked and so the backup is going to take you to about walnut hill Kingsley heard from another one of our web valued callers on problem with construction in Plano and it's definitely causing a big tie up Parker road between alma and seventy five that's a big thoroughfare there that's a well traveled thoroughfare I should say but you got one lane at your disposal either way so expect a snag there and a big problem in grand prairie let's get to that regularly it is yeah he spent twenty eight carrier the two left lanes taken away because of an accident and traffic backed up for almost three miles almost three sixty can take about a half hour to get through that wall that mother still there blocking those lanes of might consider maybe three oh three to get around this or maybe camp wisdom over to belt line perhaps to to bypass that in north bend thirty five W. approaching Tanger outlets far north fort worth student pothole repair they're in the right lane and traffic still stacked back to eagle parkway no improvement on south on one twenty one heading into bed for traffic is crawling from the split with three sixty down the cheeks barter where road crews have that left lane taken away that's a tough stretch three sixty itself is a little bit of a stretch if you're trying to detour but it it probably will suit you better we've got thirty five in Denton locked out well not blocked off I should say the right lane is clogged or trying to get off their three eighty and that's in that north bound direction so this is nothing new to you if you often take that exit and that's as a result backing traffic on thirty five W. north not quite from twenty four forty nine but if this delay persists it could get there I'm Julie Rogers next reported two thirty eight and breaking traffic alerts when they happen nice day today sixty seven for our high into the chilly night tonight dropping to about forty degrees mostly sunny tomorrow the high right around sixty eight it is sixty five news traffic and weather all news all day news radio ten eighty KRLD your news now good afternoon it is two thirty one on KRLD welcome in I'm John little CBS news update who.

"A. K. A. R. LA just because coronas in the name doesn't make it related to a virus that has the same name that's coming up check your traffic and weather together on the H. joined Rogers right right back to cedar hill we've got a freeway close has been for about two and a half hours now regularly it is it's a bad accident southbound side shut down at Cooper because of an accident involving an overturned truck traffic still jam packed almost to about Joe Wilson so be one of the only decent alternates you've got in this situation is Joe Wilson over to a Parker bill to get around it good news in Lancaster desoto northbound thirty five V. at Daniel del that accident is gone in the back of that from just after about one loosening up got a couple of issues on eastbound twenty accident at dowdy ferry or a little before blocking two left lanes that has traffic at up well almost a stop from forty five then right behind that a J. G. lemon an accident blocking the left lane traffic is backed up almost to the Houston school self out thirty five be a little after northwest highway in activity team we were in the right lane use of slowing traffic still back to about royal New Hope accident on three eighty a lot of folks take three eighty heading in that direction eastbound that'll be a wrecked just after New Hope road maybe a quarter of a mile after so watch for a big back up that's gonna stretch you into McKinney for all about McDonnell street which is the same thing as highway five but yeah that'll set you back more than a few minutes probably close to ten and I did some construction delays still trying to come apart Sam Rayburn tollway northbound they're clearing out in court but if they're in the left lane you're still going to have this this back up going as long as they are there from spring creek parkway and same thing on the bush turnpike late picking up on this one that's in the left lane near the firewheel town center and it's still slow right now from a barrel Shiloh maybe look out drive so that's where you hit the brakes and it's close ten minutes on that drive Richland hills we've got a fender Bender that because of that little bit of a fuss there Randy fuller yeah you spend one twenty one Handley either real left lane little bit busy little tied up but traffic slow toward Carson and it for south on thirty five W. expected to be sluggish before you get to twenty ounce regard makers to about Rendon Crowley southbound east Lupe to do your heavy coming off the ramp the pipeline in there get ready to get some construction started in the area over on the left lane there put up the barriers right now so keep your eyes peeled for that traffic is slow from that point down the Trinity thirty five W. if you're coming from Argyle and trying to get up to date and there is a pretty severe northbound back up and if you can believe it might only be that short cycling signal light at three eighty that's causing that for us so twenty minute back up up to three eighty thirty five you thankfully you're not impacted nearly as much you're just slow if you're trying to merge and I'm Julie Rogers next reported for forty eight and breaking traffic alerts when they happen Carol the weather center for X. surgeon happy Friday the weekend weather looks great I'm in B. "Gets out here for the most part but it's going to be really windy right now it's forty eight A. K. around the we've got you covered in DFW with news traffic and weather all day newsradio ten eighty KRLD so which is the happiest with their home purchases and wide lawn starter did this study they found out that Iowans of all people were the happiest but how did Texas do we're joined by Logan Friedman research editor at line starter so how happy are we with our home purchases here in the Lone Star state Texans sadly enough or on the bottom fifty percent so that Texas actually comes in at number thirty four of the nation and we have a what what we call a happiness and accidents based on a couple of different things but I will come then and an eighty six point six seven and Texas is Adam eighty point four nine and so some of those things come down to if people think their neighbors are friendly or they think that the place they bought a house with a good area to raise kids group they feel safer there if there is a good job market and Texas differs from the nation on that well one in seven home buyers almost one in seven say they actually regret their purchase what is the key to happiness when it comes to a home and making sure you don't have that buyer's remorse I think it has a lot to do with making sure that you're getting out of it what you're paying for it comes down to getting your value and there's some states the land that you that you can get houses that are very expensive I'm in Texas right around norm I want to come through how the prices for the patient and also whether not our neighbors are friendly or if they feel safe in their neighborhood and of course job market the huge clay if someone by the house area where there's not a great job market they're gonna regret that decision down the line when they're starting to look for a new job do some people stretch themselves just to get into our home and what kind of things do people do in order to you know make sure that they can make that mortgage payment yes so a lot of people do stretch that what I like to call house rich but they can't really do anything else they could buy a house that may be too big for them or they can't necessarily afford the mortgage payments and what's really interesting is that we actually went and we we talk to people and what they did to to get in that house so for Texas only thirty five percent of people they didn't change the way that they ate out in public so you get thirty eight point two percent that completely stopped going out to eat and yet another twenty six point five percent there were not less than they used to or and then what's really surprising to me is that a majority of Texans that were surveyed actually got a second job to support the house and I think that comes into play where if you're speeding up so much money to finally get the house maybe not what you're expecting your you can definitely have buyer's remorse after no I can definitely see that I can definitely see that especially because you know if you're doing so much to try to make that mortgage payment is just not exactly what you thought it would be good definitely end up having a more studies Logan Friedman research editor at lawn start appreciate your time it turns out that one in five Texans not necessarily happy with their home purchase they've got that buyers request.

"Easy now here's the other thing this is much we'll talk Superbowl memories A. K. I got some thought tonight I get paid to speak so I guess I got some thoughts for it here's here's one thing that fascinates me about the Superbowl I think this is and when I thought about this I was like holy crap there's no way I can't believe this is real but it is I don't know if you realize this but the forty Niners and the chiefs have something incredibly fascinating and seemingly ancient in common with each other it's not Joe Montana that was very rude how dare you they both have full backs how about that we talk about is a dying breed how many teams have a full back in the NFL not a lot is under ten I don't even know if they go to the Pro Bowl anymore I honestly have no idea if they even get the vote because there's just so few of these guys that exist both of those teams have full backs to the best offenses in football by the way this isn't like for the San Francisco forty Niners in the fact that Jimmy Garoppolo isn't the bomb at fifty yards down the field consistently on a dime kind of guy you don't realize necessarily they put up a ton of points but they do so you've got to the highest scoring offenses in football they're both in the Superbowl they both have full backs like really yeah fullbacks maybe we consider that that's just a because one of things it's been in my head you think the rams last year it's all Todd Gurley single back rams didn't mess with a full back to like this is the new wave thank you for banks like an appendix I mean you could have one but who really needs and so it to see how that's changed and where everybody's gone away from it but now they're both in the Superbowl a one of a couple of teams next season a wonderful few more teams next year decide to you know what instead of that extra line backer instead of that is six wide receiver what about full back if you're gonna be back in trend but let's go to the phones let's talk to Eddie and made any you're on CBS sports radio what's going on in eight I just took care of speaker I think okay yeah I had a couple of actually couple Superbowl memories the number one OPS five years ago patriots you know the Malcolm Butler interception game so my god daughter was laid on the weight class with a when that happened I jumped automatic Shia I could not believe it two hours later my grandson was born wow one number one in my life yeah does it did that was a crazy thing because Malcolm Butler he was a rookie that year right was any like a use of rookie I wanna say fifth round pick nobody really knew who he was he gets the biggest play in the biggest moment because that's it because by the way for the people don't fully remember this playing you be in New England guy obviously to vivid for you but if people don't remember this Seattle's got the ball at the one yard line this is Marcia legit is prime everybody knows the ball's going to Marshawn Lynch they dropped back they pass instead Malcolm Butler picks it off game over and and Malcolm Butler gets Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady you gave him a car I think after that game like it was a crazy thing but that was that was a really a mate or maybe Brady wanted pretty gave him the car either way that Malcolm Butler play that moment is absolutely unforgettable I remember where I was when I play happen news it was a really great play IT yeah the number yeah that was that was something I couldn't believe it the other one when the patriots won their first Superbowl I was in one of the hundred square is you know pools and I'm looking at the score in the fourth quarter and it's like you know if they score if they kick a field goal here you know if they score a touchdown or lose the big kick a field goal I'm going to win the score for the fourth quarter and I won five hundred Bucks they won the Superbowl I could tell was number two yeah you know well I think within five hundred Bucks is is certainly going to make you happy that he thanks to the college who doesn't love five hundred Bucks in your pocket it out it's a pretty good vibe by the way if you want to join the show you can also do it on Twitter because the phone lines are are going to be probably fairly busy tonight and and with good reason I mean everybody's got a Superbowl memory to share that's why the game is so great everybody's got one from all these different years fifty four games something's gonna stick with you but if you want to join the show you can always do it on Twitter you can find me it it's Vince Quinn wear a mask and everybody the question of just what's that Superbowl moment what's what's what's your favorite Super Bowl moments I'd somebody say and this was a fun one two thousand six season do you remember who the unpaid many ones first Super Bowl that year do you remember who they played against because this is a fun one okay sometimes you look at moments in history like there's no way this is true how did this happen rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears were in the Super Bowl rex Grossman was a starting Super Bowl quarterback and the first play of the game it's a kick off the Devin Hester and Devin Hester takes it to the house and you're like oh my god are the bears and rex Grossman about the beat Peyton manning who hasn't won a Superbowl yet crazy game now it was ugly because it was raining I remember being a really sloppy field for that one but obviously pain pulled out the Devin Hester get a return touchdown open the gate that was an exciting awesome perfect moment for the NFL and and really for everybody watching so if you want to join the show again eight five five two one two four two two seven I'm Vince Quinn with you here on CBS sports radio and when we come back as much as we're gonna keep talking about the Super Bowl the Super Bowl memories and some thoughts I've got on the game the Lakers play their first game since the passing of Kobe Bryant and if you haven't seen this yet give her this yet lebron James had a hell of a speech before the game we're gonna played some of that for you it's coming up next but first let's go to CBS sports there update skews me with Jay Berman sports play will begin in the NBA.

"In the usa are in it you're subset aaron africa those things are going on but i do know that too the implications of that is that people are going to be arriving here on a tuesday night or a thursday night horse pick at who need help and we're going to be there to get in the help because they need help and because that's what we do in canada no one at the clinic would admit that they cross the border from the us into canada and the clinic staff protect their patients fiercely they know people who canadian authorities have arrested them deport it so it's not surprising that when i sit down with one patient from nigeria she will give her name and i know and then and wouldn't say how he came into camp with the other now she choose or common nervously snaps and on snaps for coped button while we talk to won't say much but i try asking if she came to canada from the us she says quickly you know they win fans of discrimination oh my god he was is one of the perfect kind them think of cause lacy i'm a what they none social media even the president and so and then you know you see everything that made the aba life canada she says offers more freedom equality and opportunity kind of a them all it's a clutch about country the rays save defense in the ground from different clutch about how ground ready to known they don't discriminate that and i just took country is also one duffel wonderful are not the more the us turns people away the more canada will feel attack for the world group a should annoying toronto.

"Our normal at the start for presidential term i think there is always turbulence in any presidential transition but this one is different in its nature and it's character and a lot of that revolves around your present trump as an anti establishment figure you know so far he's running his presidency you know as he ran his campaign and you know we all are wondering if this is just a phase our it's it's something that he's going to carry on an to what extent it sustainable in the answer is at this point we don't know what about you elliott coma i'm thinking particularly if yesterday's press conference other kind of public declarations of trump you see this is normal reversed the departure i think there is something that old is not now because a always right there's always a certain amount motto under people don't work out and so forth but now this is clearly have something that's very different boast that new presence don't go win and the first thing that they do begin picking fights with president mexico most presence did not come in and begin launching into extraordinary ty raides against the press most presence don't cup man to get a lot about happening like toro votes they god how many people attended there in argue ration this is out of the norm and i think people really have to confront that fact we were all like it not to be true we'd like to think well it's just you know it's a little bit edgy and that's who would what comp is and this will settled down and i really fear that it will lot settle down well on you were never trump republican after the election you then encouraged young conservative to serve in the you know witnessed ration you re thought that advice what are you advising in conservatives today i thought immediately after the election well you know was that would go at they would mass made but it would be a good idea to encourage able people to go happened after both observing to transition process and then having some ever take were interactions i concluded one of these guys are really did addictive and ser vengeful and it's not a good idea certainly to work.

"Say on any subject because you don't agree that we need to close the border and keep dangerous people lives and then the opposition says you donald trump all any is allies your bats people because you unapologetic they get some sexist and racist and therefore i have no interest and listening to you on any subject and so when other into a color dispute about to live good policy vs bad policy were into a dispute about good people vs but people and who isn't it sure to much and he has a rights to be out and that kind of dispute is really dangerous in and democrat it politics because how can compromise i was some on the other side of the ahl if you think that fundamentally wicked so politics here has evolved to five year old on a playground in the meantime done in the ways to comfortable it's it's the politics all of kind of tribal listen to tribe's that believes that the other tried his bench omaha mean and making them the site david renney is the washington bureau chief for the economist thanks so much david thank you love it or hate it terms white house comments commanded a lot of media tension here in the newsroom we say the covering the constant trumpy in chatter is like trying to drink out of a fire host writer to turn entourage an thinks so too she spacing nyj area and she says enough i'm russian thinks the focus on trump is crowding out important stories happening elsewhere on the planet and so we're not garage in walks into a room worse ian in his she asks the television to be switch stuff i really constanta anymore the and then which i understand is an american broadcaster the only thing they talk about is us politics and right now that's just trump and while i understand it's a very exciting you story that all so many other things going on in the worlds of which they just missing because the news media seems completely obsessed with trump it's not just the end and just to make that clear it from the purportedly international news media in general but i guess what i'd say is donald trump is now the president of the biggest.
