The Chester A. Poling
"Today. I'm going to do something a little different for this installment of your next dive normally tried to take you to a dive destination where we talk about the trip from a number of different perspectives. The travel the lodging the dive operator. Oh yeah the diving. Now we've been around the world. But today i'm going to focus on one particular dive that is almost in our backyard. It is one of the most iconic dives here in new england and that is the wreck of the chester. Polling off gloucester mass. The chester polling was a coastal tanker. That sank in a brutal storm on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven. The tanker had just left everett massachusetts and was bound for newington new hampshire. That information is pretty consistent in the research but there is other conflicting information about where she had been. And what cargo she delivered for example some documentation said she had previously delivered kerosene to new jersey while others indicated that the heating oil was delivered to everett mass. I would suspect that delivery to everett mass to be more likely always interesting when you Doing research to get this type of inconsistency now the chester polling was bill in nineteen thirty four at mariners harbor new york by united dry docks incorporated it was originally in the plattsburgh sacconi somewhere along the line at also known as the mobile albany before getting renamed as the chester polling at the time of its sinking it was owned by the motor vessel polling brothers and that was number one inc. I wasn't able to find who was actually named after but obviously some member of the family. So that's a little bit of history about the ship now on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven capital captain. Bert charles burgess was in command. The forecast for that day was for thirty five mile an hour winds along with fifteen to twenty foot seas. the chester polling chester. A polling left. Everett are left everett at six thirty. A m well as we all know. Forecast can be wrong. The winds built up to fifty miles per hour and to seize goddess highs. Thirty feet facing the mounting sees captain. Burge's tried to get more stability by adding more ballast but at ten thirty a m a thirty foot waves smashed into the tanker and broke it in half the captain called for abandoning the ship. Six of the seven members of the crew were saved. I believe it was the cook jail. Derosa from providence rhode island who perished the sir. The stern section of the chester polling came to rest off easter point gloucester originally in about seventy five feet of water with the bow section sinking about four miles off of eastern point in about one hundred ninety feet of water subsequent winter. Storms move the stern section to its present location about eight hundred yards off of eastern point about ninety five feet of water. I think the bottom might be a little bit deeper than that. However the stern section of the chester polling is what some folks call hollywood wreck sitting upright and is probably the most popular wreck dive off. Cape ann as that areas known. Now i- i dove the chester polling way back in july two thousand and five. It was my fortieth dive and a double dip on. The polling was part of my advanced open water class. These dyes would constitute my deep and wreck advanced. Open water dives. At that time. I was still diving in a seven. Millimeter wetsuit with the appropriate gloves and hood. I use the standard aluminum. Eighty tank with nighthawks. Thirty two. I can still remember the anxiety that had doing. The first real wreck dive in the northeast but once in the water what an amazing dive the visibility that day was thirty feet and my max step was at eighty five. Even though it was july the water temperature on iraq was fifty degrees. It was incredible to move along the deck and reach the mid mid ship section where. The tanker broken half absolutely mesmerizing but with an aluminum. Eighty you don't get much bottom time and after about fifteen minutes we headed back to the up line and after are appropriate safety. Stop we climb back aboard the boat and got ready to do it again. Total dive time was twenty six minutes the second dive that day was just as spectacular and pretty much the same profile. Let me just say in a wetsuit. It can get pretty chilly. I didn't go back to the chester polling until august. Two thousand nine and that was my last trip there. It was my two hundred and forty ninth dive but this time i did it in a dry suit and hope to get some good video of iraq. I still dove aluminum. Eighty the dive was just as i remembered and just as exciting visibility again was thirty feet. And my max. Depth was eighty two with and the bottom temperature. That day was forty eight degrees still very cold but so much better in a dry suit again however with an aluminum eighty. You just. Don't get much bottom time especially if your task loading like shooting video so my recommendation is that if you are planning to die the polling you might want to consider a little bit bigger tank something like a steal one hundred or going to doubles. I know that i wouldn't consider going back with anything less than a steel one hundred tank. How do you get to the chester polling back. Then we use cape and divers but they closed up several years ago and recently the dive boat cape and diver to was purchased by several guys from boston. An air now operating regularly chart regular charters again became an diverse to is a forty five foot. us coastguard registered dive vessel. It is spacious and right now with limited divers on board you get plenty of room to get ready and dive but you don't get a lot of but you don't get a lot of time because you don't have a lot of time to get ready because the is only a few minutes from the dock so be prepared one thing. Different about northeast wreck diving. Is that as a diver. You need to bring all your gear that includes tanks weights everything. It's not like diving at a resort. Don't get caught short by not being prepared with all your own stuff now. Here's an interesting element. That i discovered during my research. It appears that in nineteen sixties. The chester polling was length lengthened. By maybe twenty six or so feet. That doesn't sound like much. But at the time of her sinking her length with two hundred and eighty two feet so that lengthening was about ten percent of the original ship's length could this have been a contributing factor for the ship splitting in half. I wonder so if you happen to be in the area of cape ban in gloucester massachusetts. You might wanna look up cape and diver to and head out for a double dip on the chester a

Everything You Need to Know About Qualcomm's aptX
"Audio product is able to trance code codex that range from different like varying levels of quality. You have sbc which is sort of like a standard sbc a ac so those are the more or less the standard codex that the bluetooth radio inside of the ear buds and in the smartphone. Or whatever you're connecting it to. We'll be transmitting and receiving all right. So if it's pretty much everything supports that. That's just the way however you get a little bit more into the weeds when she gets something like a pair of sony headphones and they prefer l. d. c. l. deck l. Dak is their version of a higher quality kodak and it is generally cross compatible where you have l. dak and then you put it on pretty much any smartphone and they'll be able to support held back. Yeah then you get into qualcomm codex. It all started with apt x t x apt x supposed to be their version more or less of like what l. deck provided. It was supposed to be something that they would be able to provide and sends they build the bluetooth radios. They can ensure that has a level of quality without you kind of rolling the dice on whether or not the l. Ldc that you using on a smartphone or on a pair of headphones is actually that good. Yeah now that was years ago. Abducts started quite a while ago and since then the s that scavenger hunt. We did two years ago at cs where we look for products that are welcome powered. One of the cheats were if the buds has aptex. That's welcome. Yeah yeah yeah. So anything with abducts then com built the bluetooth radio for it and they made sure that their codex were installed. So they've they've been making things better over time so you have aptex low latency which was what they created for video gaming. So if you're using a smartphone with a qualcomm chipset in it was able to provide high quality yet. Low latency audio to a compatible pair of headphones which then meant it was good for gaming aspects of then came after affects hd rather came out after that an even higher quality of it. But he did not prioritize low latency prioritized higher quality for better enjoyment Optics adaptive was supposed to be able to move among them based upon what media or what you were doing on the smartphone and finally add snapdragon sounded. Then we have aptex loss lewis. This is the kodak that is for the audio files.

The president signed a disaster declaration so that freed up individual assistance for families and individuals and we still encourage people to go to disaster assistance dot gov and apply for benefits and especially those critical needs assistance. So that we can get money in the hands of people To do it and one of the reasons why the president wanted to come down and come down so early because he wanted to see things on the ground and we know what the problems on. we're actually Helping to resolve them and that is getting power back on in homes. Well square eat heard you and are here with a weekly meal delivery service. That's exactly that food in the form of identically sized rounded squares as the companies deck spread around the internet this week people had trouble figuring out if it was for real. We funder it absolutely is quoting today. The miami based company squarely uses processes like low temperature cooking and thermal shocking to turn foods like chicken beef broccoli rice and more into precooked. Fifty gram square patties. From five fifty to seven ninety nine wants delivered the squares stay fresh for two weeks or more and can be eaten cold or prepared in a variety of ways including sauteed in oil heir fried or warmed in the microwave and quotes and one of the big things that the company is trying to clear up. Is that these aren't meal replacements. The foods that make up the squares are the actual foods. The chicken is just chicken. Sweet potato is just sweet potato albeit they do come spiced but squaring insists there one hundred percent natural ingredients. It's just how they're prepared that thermal shocking process. That gives them their strange futuristic appearance but my biggest question is why i mean sure. It looks kinda cool. But what is the advantage of the square. As best as i can figure it out from reading several articles ranging from bewildered to scathing square. It says that the shape makes it easier to mass produce their gourmet techniques so that they can make high quality. Food more affordable.

I'm looking forward to playing in local tournaments. Thanks so much for your thoughtful show and keep it up yesterday. What what a great positive email. Thank you leeann. Appreciate the support. Best of luck to you and your five year old son. Five years old man. That's that's a. That's a solid age to get get out of the competitive tip. That's great man. Listen if you can get them to sit through an entire game. That is like that's a win win. Yeah my son is like we play one game. It's like. I don't know if i could take them to tournament for best two out of three suisses. Okay it's quick and easy but Anything longer than that. It's like when's lunch. Play fortnite gonna squirrel sora at work though squirrel all right. We'll adam i've got a. I've got a good conversation here that i want to engage with and get your thoughts because i started putting some ideas together here and i think i've got. I've got some good topics. So i wanna talk about the state of the card market and kind of. I guess i'll start with the logan paul effect and everyone is talked about paul sprint of the press blah blah blah. It's it's so annoying to talk about it because you don't want that to be a reality. But unfortunately that's the reality. And the the fact that he ended up collaborating with leonhard it almost like added this credibility for some to logan paw and we all know that that kind of like created the spiral in the market. And you know he's buying these you know hundreds and two hundred thousand dollar boxes and this and that and then like on the wane mayweather fight. He's wearing the charter charter. Anesthetic like that whole thing. Influence the card market so much. That prices went crazy. Demand crazy scalpers went crazy. Had a you know a a front line front perspective. Heavy news covered thing and it blew everything up. Blew the top off of all the cards. And i wanted to talk about what this means. Specifically we could talk about the good and bad of logan paul and all that. But i don't wanna talk about barry. Now i'm just saying what the one it's like because of that. And what the impact that this had on retail availability retail availability and even specialty retailers like t. and comics and ultimately like marketplaces like tc g. player. Because this whole thing is like an umbrella that trickles down to all these areas. And i guess what was the turning point was it was vivid voltage right. Things became impossible possible. Yeah vivid sausage and it's still there vivid voltages still such a sought after set. Because of the hyper rare pika chew because the the value that it holds because of the amazing race. There's like there was just so much to pull from that set.

"Breakdown is between which factions are rewarded for their own people being loyal versus which ones are punishing other people for being disloyal unloyal non loyal. However I should phrase that for this game and status and maybe like Joffrey are kind of like to really solid examples of that in a Nedley sense right like status doesn't care about whether you love him or not. He doesn't care about you. Really it's are you loyal to the throne? Are you following the law? Are you following your host whatever? That's all he cares about. So that's very neatly that he only cares about are the opponents people non moyle. And conversely, you've got Joffrey who only cares if you're loyal to him, right he's not not only from the the Lancaster family perspective right where everyone stays oil to the family and that's all that matters and stuff but he also has that extremely narcissistic personality where he is the only thing that matters. So it's all this inward facing loyalty. So like from a Netflix sense, I think the broad strokes of that are like well done actually. Yeah I think on A. On a theme love I, think all of the Kings are successes I. Think they're all pretty very well designed cards. Excuse me. from from a deadly perspective from the perspective and I. Think the loyalty matters theme. Works particularly. When I think when it's about like whether or not you Marshall. Loyal characters. Joffrey as you mentioned, is a good example of this. Meeting moving outside the king's like a horn would. Also kind of does that, but I think it's probably it's the problem is loyalty and non loyal. Is it like consistent enough across the card pool at any point four this theme to really work in a way that is really interesting or really comes as A. Deck building cost or like interesting decling question you know like we're not like worrying about your opponent status is never really something that you really consider or you know what I mean where The opportunity cost of losing to your opponents status. Because you know the. Your important non loyal character can't stand is never really enough for you to not play a good loyal character, right? Yeah. The because the Nihilo characters were playing just always worth it right and then like if you look at bay on You know. It just ends up being that the best. Great joy characters are almost overwhelming loyal because you want those characters to be loyal because that gives the faction entity. So you're basically just rewarding players are playing their best cards. And Things Victorian who will I believe is.

"You missed any of today's program, you can always listen back by podcast, which is doing pretty well right now as a matter of fact. So check that out. You can. You can get it on any podcast, APP or M. B. Public Media APP. So we were talking or we've been trying to talk about some of the outside stuff that we're GONNA do. that. So we're talking deck and staining, we had someone. Sending some pictures this week. Just fantastic pictures were they had their deck and it was a really really amazing transformation of this deck. It kinda it Kinda like knock your socks off is real pretty so but they were using a particular product and they did send that and I don't know. She would say what that product is. Does another stolen product was yeah. I'm just going to say it was in the Rostov Liam family, but absolutely loved it and the pictures the before and after or what? Job Even mentioned men I think that might be a picture from the company website or something because it looks so good. It looked as. Though they had published it. Anyway. You can do a lot of good on your deck if you'll use some of these things that will that will hold it together. Nicely. What I mean is. If you've come across different types of decking now on this show. Jeff, you've mentioned several times, a type of almost synthetic decking. That you recommend. Yep Yep. Like it. It's a composite material. There are several different manufacturers out there. So you know, do your do your homework on it and but it's it. It lasts forever in my opinion, and in fact, if you ever go to yellowstone, you will. Notice that all of the walkways in yellowstone are built out of a composite material. That's interesting. Okay. I. Guess They have so much. Whether. I. Guess That's a good thing I've been to. down. The coast? You can find several of the walkways dunes in onto the beach. Have that kind of. Flooring on they used to be really beat up would for the longest time, and of course, you're walking across in bare feet trying to get to the beach. So that was never any good. At what type of material Pam would you like to use if you did a deck? Well I. Just WanNa make sure it's built structurally. Correct. Okay. You'll find just structurally correct. You now use the right materials, flash it. That's probably we do a lot of debt. We inspect next one, we inspect the houses and I can't tell you. More towns than ought. Not Done, right. You know because you have your friends, wrong way can give them a couple of beers and you're going to build you a deck river. Road. That's how that goes now. Yeah. Yeah, and so they're out there and there's Tanger or screw our flashing insight. I. Don't I don't want to discourage A. The homeowner from building today because it's fun. But just do your homework on it that they could be very rewarding and and obviously you will save some money if you can. You know get some free, labor. Well. They're not that hard to build. Advise. I'm actually heading up. My vacation this year which got cancelled. I was GONNA. Go to Canada. They don't particularly want the Americans up there. Right. National had to cancel that. So what I'm GONNA DO INSTEAD IS I'm Dr a to a friend's house in North Little Rock Arkansas. And we'RE GONNA. Have a ladies build on a deck. Okay. The, we have already designed. It put all the materials together priced everything out, and she's GonNa. Have it delivered to her house knowing? We're going to spend the weekend. You know and I, and I stress I said only want ladies there. It's GonNa. See. You've lost me. Go Ahead Jeff. Pam and less you Christ it out thirty minutes ago. You better. Price it again because it's going up hourly. I was like he may want to go ahead and get your. Purchase now if you can manage to. Get it. We are purchasing framing packages. Probably, two weeks before we need home. just to beat this price increase. I. Just I just got A. Text message from a builder. Buddy. Mine to below. Three. Thousand Square Foot House. Framing package is up eleven thousand dollars one. Definitely go straight to the bottom line. To. You know that that that money is gone you. You're not going to recoup that on the sale of that. Of. That house. Yeah, because the. Still. Worth what it's worth. That's right. Regardless of what you put in it. Okay. You can call eight, seven, seven, empty, ring, eight, seven, seven, six, seven, two, seven, four, six, four, birt's on the line and flow. What's number? A couple of things a first of which I see what Jeff did just. was that. He, he talked about the DIY over a few beers deck. That's how it all falls apart. Well, you know as as Pam was was describing her incredible planning of her deck. As as a person who built my own deck in my backyard over a couple of beers, I can say. Number one each day I. Wish I had planned it a little better but. Number two, Pam, you're missing the experience of. The beer's doing the deck. You know I, mean you're you're missing the experience of what are these three screws for? Whatever. The experience of the beer now? Okay. Okay. All right. So. I just tuned in on the tail end of. WINDOW SASH SEGMENT I I'm not sure if you were saying I guess, depending upon the age of the windows you make it get them warranty or something, but as far as replacing just a sash pretty sure the venable location in ridgeline, they had a tick come out in replaced pains all. In an individual I think it's called the sashes a little to to pain cassette thing. They did it. It wasn't. IT WASN'T A. Factor. Okay. got. A total different deal you're talking about a, it's called a T. d. l. true divided light. So. TDL window is where they actually putty glaze that non insulated glass into that would wind up. I I'm talking about a vinyl window that has a sash, and it's got one piece of glass in it if that particular. Sashes broken and you can find the manufacturer nine times out of ten. You can simply order a new sach. Okay. This was this was about a window, but it was. Possibly, de TDL. Back, that you make a good point that when you and I'm not talking about particular. Sellers in our retailers, but I am saying that you know if you do shop windows services a thing to shop when you're talking.

Honestly I didn't even know Java. You're saying, yes. That's that was a big thing. This morning for you to yet today's morning time temperature was not in the nineties so. Welcome to Mississippi. So So Jeff Forty working on today. Well. We have picked up some new, some new projects which are Nice we've got A. Pretty unique situation going on in North Jackson to where we're taking any existing. Deck that is in very poor condition, and we're coming off the house with a brand new screen. I call him a Florida room or something, but it's not. It's not cold is just screen and. wicker furniture. Move. Exposed rafters and stuff. It's a, it's a neat little. Project, you know. It's. It's fun. To do something different from time to time instead of the same old? You know. Everything all the time. I can always tell when you get a different. because. It has definitely what's on your mind. I remember I remember I. Forget how long ago it was but. I, think all of us followed with bated breath. What you're going to say next about the pool project when you're building the poolhouse. So. Anyway. So, Pam, what are you got mixed up in this week? Well I was called demented because I got so excited. About this horrible situation. Jeff. Here you go. What do you get? When you combine an old house and oversized air conditioning system and duct work that was not sealed over you get microbial growth. All boy. was. Awesome Opened up the closets and the ceilings were all green and fuzzy. Paul. You know, and so the client I worked at them a couple of years ago to buy a house and they hired a company. Come in and put in air conditioning system and I asked her I said it will send me the receipt. Alma see what they said. They were GONNA. Do Right. They were GONNA put in a system put rigid. What is rigid me? Bridging. Bendit. Can't it? Right. Now. There's a difference between rigid and flex right. You've got with that adjective and it kind of gives you an idea of what you should have an expectation for. So. Rigid insulated donkey. All sealed. That was on the receipt. So they never sealed the ducting. Well, like quit in a unit that was a ton too big. And then I go over there and I had on my own respirator. Cousin like a sailor when I got up in that attic, I was so mad. What you say. You're GonNa, do you say you'RE GONNA? Sale. It. Turned over and I put my hand and I, just I squeeze that insulation on that duct work and it just poorer longer. Horde will act could have filled three water bottles up in one location while. It was so frustrating. You know it just, but you know what I have to go back and say is that you know what that does. It keeps me in business drew. True 'CAUSE I get the phone call. There and then try to help these folks and I really had to It's GonNa be an interesting project because we're going to have to go back on the contractor, the company and tell. Liam. And then there was a bunch of flex out there. They put in a metal supply with all this stuff and none of the flex was sailed either and it wasn't strapped off and it was all. Tell you what you know what this reminds me of a good point to make on this show every time you try to negotiate. Your price down with your contractor if you're beaten up on them. was remember that they're going into places where you don't see a lot. And if they've got to cut corners because you beat them up on the price so hard. I mean I'm not saying that's the contractors. I mean the the homeowners fault at all. The the contractor they said, they did it. They should have done it. But but. That's just that's horrible. What? Are there any restitution for that kind of person? Well. It's just it's GonNa be interesting. We're on a front end of it and I'm still working with them. We did some air samples to see how bad. The microbial growth. So. We should have those back in a couple of days. In the meantime I've written up a report and I took those receipts in checked everything to sing what did they had given them all these different. Sides and they pay the higher price for rigid, and then this is something that I see a lot. Especially in older houses, you have to remember ingest works in these. All the time older houses might not have been designed for the type of air conditioning that we have today. You come in to an older system. It would be like you know I'm Oh. So you could something new on me and I'll. Well. Okay. Well. Is. How many times have you seen mold at that level in a home? Unfortunately an older houses will sent because they will put a new system in with old ductwork that's not sealed up and I remember the first time I ever saw sexually for a newscaster sports caster spent about fifteen years ago and he called and I knew when I walked him. What the problem was because and you if you have mould. In your ceiling? That wind up with your registers with your air conditioners, air conditioning registers. Then, you're duckworth leaking. Alright it's raining and that's what whenever I got up in his attic. It was raining there was water just pouring off the ductwork. So it, you know I think the solution. I. Think. There's an easy solution. It's just frustrating that you have to do that after having installed it three years ago. Right? Right. Beware. Beware with your contractors, make sure to check their references. Jeff always says, call the people they most recently worked with or are working with. While and something else that I write command on. If you're gonNA spend that much money on putting a system, you WanNa have a home inspector come in and check it before you give them the last night. That makes sense that makes sense Okay. So let's let's move onto We were going to talk about today. But. Let's take a break real quick Java, and when we get back, we're GonNa talk about the DAX that we're going to get to a lot of folks redoing their deck right now because the weather has gotten well, it's GonNa. Be Getting decent enough to go out on a deck. So we'll get to.

I'm well thank you. How can we help? I've got to Exterior stained Would debt one's a deck and one's a raised bed garden garden area The students stay in debt. I it's an older deck. That's a repurpose stack right. Thirty years. Old I've stained it twice in standing last two three years. Now ready to be staying again in always goes back down to the raw wood but I think my preparation is raw. What do I need to do to get a that deck? Prep to actually take stain. It's two by six treated something cernan. It's twenty thirty years old right. Well I think John was talking earlier about the bear. I think it's the number sixty four but it's a stripper and That that will take just about any finish off of of the deck. And that's really what you want to do before you apply another finish because the whole idea of a sealer is to stop the penetration of of water And so on and of course you know obviously want the sealer you want to the deck to look. Nice but if you can if you can clean the old finish off you're going to get a better bond With your with your new product so follow those directions And and just a quick tip. "Now he's busy with class one day. Hopefully he'll get to pick it up and learn about the kind of man that his father was. And he was a great man. What is Joe males? Legacy. He will. His life was taken from him way before it should have been ultimately, right, bud, six did everything everyone gravitated to the sky golden didn't like the sky incredibly successful. And again achieved so much at such a young age and touch so many people. I gave the book to a woman that I know about a couple of months ago and she read it and she said, you know, I got the book and I couldn't believe that one person could be that charismatic charming that magical. And then I went on his memorial tribute page to read all the comments. And if the reading all the comments that people wrote about him, I realized that maybe you weren't kind enough to him. Maybe he was even better than you portrayed him in this book and we try to pay homage to him the best way that we could use the word honest. You talk about yourself, you take us through your life, your career doubt. You've had moments when you sat down to write this. Take us into these. Personal moments. What was that? Like putting that out in the book. I didn't think we're gonna go there and I wrote it with my co writer, Michael Rosenberg, and I know some people might think that's naive. But honestly, the book was done to honor Joe and the pushing pulled it, Michael, and I had all the time. Michael call me up and eat semi passengers that he'd written up and I would send him what I'd written up. And I would say Michael Moore of Joe in less of me, I just kept saying that and he kept saying on one a little bit more you. And so that was the pushing the great part was I was able to give him my journal. I've kept a journal every single day, my life since nineteen ninety can. So he said, hey, can you send me the week when you propose to you? I've semi weekly metric semi that week of your wedding. Can you send me the week of nine? Eleven the first nine eleven you experience with Sherry, and I was able to give them all these passages with everything documented, and there were things in there that I don't remember the day that I propose to share. He sends it back to me. I wrote as I was flying home from Pittsburgh from doing the sidelines with. NFL network at the time worked with Brian Gumbo and Chris, I'm gonna make Joe and his family proud. I didn't remember writing that my journal, but it's they're documented. And Michael found that each year is nine. Eleven comes around on the calendar. We reflect on people such as on the fact there are thousands of families living. That's the whole thing. This is our story, but there are so many more out there. This is Joe mayo story, which is while you wrote it brave stuff. Yet this book, it's the man. I never met written Adam Schefter. I think Joe would have been over joy that this is the person that Devon and my pets to be a father. That story from several years ago, Adam is written most touching book. It's just out it is titled the man I never met about his life Sheri's their kids, Devon, Dylan, and most importantly show mayo welcome. Thank you, appreciate this brave. It's honest. It's a great love story too. Well, you sent the Email the other day, touch me and sending Email that you read the book and you said exactly that. And this really is designed to honor Joe's life and his legacy and to pay tribute to my wife for the strength and toughness that she showed after losing her husband, they just moved into a new home. They have been in the house for one month. Devon at the time was fifteen months old. Joe is at the top of his profession working for cantor FitzGerald in the World Trade Center, and just think about a life at that point, essentially, being ruined and my wife has gone on and she's been very brave and very tough. But you see Joe's father in the background right there and Paul, George mayo Joe's parents or the people that I personally feel as badly about as anybody. And of course, losses. Biological father who never got to know. And that was part of the reason for writing this book because that piece that we showed ran on the fifteenth anniversary. Serie of nine eleven, and it was a six minute TV piece and it was done to honor Joe. But this is a two hundred page book, much more detailed, much more personal and one day Devon's a freshman college..

"Alive, fabrication, that's how Pat Perlas son of former Michigan state coach and athletic director. George Perlas describes the allegations against his father in a new lawsuit filed on the Larry Nassar scandal, a former Michigan state field hockey player, alleges that Perlas helped cover up her alleged raped by Nasser back in nineteen ninety two. Today in the beef block, very personal story seventeen years after the attacks of nine, eleven my friend and colleague. Adam Schefter is here to tell his story and that of his wife, Sheri whose first husband died on September eleventh, the World Trade Center. Thirty two year old. Joseph mayo work for canter FitzGerald, north tower of the World Trade Center, three floors above where the first plane hit. I hear the beeping and it was Joe again and he was hysterical crying. He's like, I love you so much. And then phone just went dead. And. Hearing his voice in that. So tested on the phone and the way he said, I love you. It was like this. And of. His life. It was the last one was like the last time he knew that he was going to say, I love you. It's a part of me. Part can't be replaced. It's gone by. It's the week spent by realize the reason why I was getting through this was because of Devon Devon. Brought assaults little baby. He was. He gave us strength. There was still like it was like dead inside of may is. How could I do this such so skilled by? I. Did have a glimmer of hope that maybe there would be a time where I would enjoy being with someone else and that person would love my Stein. Hello. Dave..

"You're not thinking of it. I mean, now being on this side of it, it's it's pretty wild. I mean, like you said over in Europe, I think there was about seventy percent of of all bets were in game bets where I think in Nevada was maybe five percent. So there's going to be a huge opportunity here. I think it's going to change the way that people look at the game people fan at games. And it's, it's something that I think is going to be. It's it's gonna be pretty wild, kind of seeing how the whole thing unfolds, which pretty well acknowledged that fantasy sports given their size are essentially gambling when you were playing and fantasy was growing as just a Aminat industry as it were, what kind of stuff and feedback did you get from fantasy players if they even county on the hotel signing autographs, man, you know it was. It was funny because I helped so many people win fantasy and then you know, there are others didn't do so well for their fantasy leagues. But I think the the fantasy leagues helped kinda change also how people fan. And I think people became a little bit more aggressive because there was for some leagues you had money. At the end of those leagues if they're they're winning. So I had a bunch of people that would come up and say, hey man, right, thanks, man. You helped me when my fantasy and and again, it's when you're not doing so hot, you know, people let you know that as well. But I think now that you have this whole sports betting industry that's going to take off, it's going to take it to a completely different level than what the fantasy game is. But I think you're going to have more fan interaction in different ways with with all the different sports, yes or no, if you place the baseball bets that you've retired. That's a negative dour. Right. Okay. It's still read the clubhouse. Exactly. Okay, right. Congratulations to you on your career and good luck in this new venture, Ryan. Thanks so much. Thank you, appreciate it. Thank you for having me. Now far from the lights on the action of Las Vegas and that city cities, the town of Humboldt SIS catch on a place on the Canadian prairie that was stunned back in April. When sixteen individuals, including ten players were killed. The local hockey team was on route to a playoff game. When the team bus was broadsided by a tractor trailer. The immensity of that tragedy rippled across Canada and the United States last night, the Humboldt Broncos returned to the ice the evening defined by many emotions. Broncos..

"Romantic rose, thirteen. Season's rookie of the year, MVP World Series ring Ryan Howard a force of nature at the plate. And now having officially announced his retirement this month, he's joined the venture firm, Seventy-six capitalism, partner, the an investment opportunities, legalize sports, gambling. We say hi to Ryan Howard. Thanks for joining us here. Hey, thank you so much for having me about what is the attraction for you in this field? Well, my partners and John Powell and Wayne Kim saw very, very big opportunity in the sports betting world. It's it's something that's looking at becoming a two hundred and fifty plus billion dollar industry and ever since may fourteenth of earlier this year. This court struck down the PA that forbids states other states other than Vada from being able to allow people to bet on sports where now it's it's wide open. So we've saw we've seen so many different opportunities in the world of sports betting to where we've decided to try to get into those rooms on the data analytics, the data collection, as well as the media and the broadcasting sides of the sports betting and the attitudes are changing. Yes, in the investment world, certainly. But also among the league's you might have been a youngster in Saint Louis growing up Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. At one point we're banned from baseball. We're doing with shaking hands and the front of a casino in Atlantic City, and they were out of the game for a few. What do you make the change in the attitudes of the leagues. Man, I think it's the world is changing. You know, everybody I think is learning how learning how to adapt to these whole different situations. Like you said, you know, Willie McGee Mickey Mantle. Those guys were banned just for shaking hands in front of casinos, and now it's it's pretty much welcome. I think it's going to be an interesting situation kind of moving forward and seeing how you know players are able to players are able to kind of capitalize on endorsements from casinos now that it's going to be regulated a regulated industry. Amazing eventually lead back into the game. One of the things that you've talked about this in Europe. Most of the bets are not on the outcome of a soccer match or a tennis match their in game bets here in the states. Very few as a player as a guy who played the game. If somebody's betting on your which which Ryan gun do next time up Phillies gonna go down onto three. What do you think of that. You know, it's as the players side, obviously you're not..

"Won our perhaps best captured in the twin signs of the coaching coin. Jon Gruden of Oakland met Patricia in Detroit. And yes, they were two of the seven coaches to loosen their first games at their new address, but grooten he of the hundred million dollar contract has left daylight between himself and his GM over the infamous Khalil Mack trade while Lyon, said, coach, Matt, Patricia copes. With the fat jets, say they knew everything about the lions and also some signs of bubbling signs. They are player discontent and unrest good places to begin the conversation. Talk football as we always do with Jason reap of the undefeated. Where do we start with the raiders are former colleague Chucky. The headline was when they sign up for the hundred million. David Carter Khalil Mack daylight with how big a mess is. I know a wind changes, everything else week one a message this well, like you said, a wind changes everything. And so they get a w. here in week two, then the temperature lowers great deal, but clearly Bob with the money that John is making the the pressure that's on him to succeed. It is a mess when you're making that type of money, it's just the reality of the situation and with the clue maximization with that trade with their start, you lose by twenty points on the, you know, you're opening game back back with the raiders clearly. There's pressure there right now, and they need really to get a win and week two, we're looking at tea leaves though. He wasn't in on the details of the nature grooten here with his general manager on the MAC, did not want the two thrown in. You add to the. Fact, they cut Martavis Bryant re-sign him all the time. He's under a probable upcoming year, long drug suspension, and a lot of things just define logic. Yeah. And you talked, you mentioned about daylight. You do see some daylight being created here, and I don't think this is good for MacKenzie you. You talk about the to. John says, he wasn't like in favor of that of the whole situation will bring the white out back and and trying to make that situation. Makes sense. It really doesn't make sense. And I think moving forward, it would not be shocking anyone the NFL if that front office structure does change more if not at the end of this year, sometime shortly thereafter, one hundred million invested in the new coach. Let's go to Motown the word there is at the Matt Patricia. We saw having his problems in the free season and also in we'd one is not the guy they thought they were hiring. Well, he better not be this guy much longer because if he's this guy which longer he's not going to be there much longer, they look awful. Any other way to put it Bob, you talk about from a preparation standpoint, from a standpoint of bouncing back after turnovers, bouncing back after adversity. This team looked like a team that did not mean to be on the field at that point and you don't want overreact Bob. Clearly it's the first game. We know that and if Matt Patricia can get this thing turned around get a couple of w's, not one, but a couple moving forward here then maybe. But right now it doesn't look good. They had nine last year. Quick shutout living on bell. He's foregoing another eight hundred fifty. Two hundred thousand dollars this week. I mean it's it's now under the radar, but that's he. He's gotta draw checks at some point. Yeah, that's real money. But remember Bob, the key thing here is week eleven because if he signs by week eleven, he can still be restricted next year and Levy on bell is making it clear. He's gonna protect Levy on bell and you understand from his standpoint, but not good for the teammates. It's playing the long game of poker chips and nerves. Jason read of the defeated, joy him there. Now, Ryan Howard and legalize sports gambling. Thing..
