"Change. That can make a big difference is to actually scope out the nature of your goal in advance. One of the stories that i tell in the long game is from jeff bezos. Writing this yet since you're friends with him and all it's He wrote at twenty eighteen shareholder. Letter it's amazon. Shareholders and tells this story about a friend of his that wanted to get better at yoga and hired a handstand coach for yoga and the yoga handstand. Coach said that the average person if you ask them. How long does it take to master a handstand. They will say about two weeks and the actual truth is it. Takes six months of daily practice. it is. You know it's not by off by ten percent or twenty percent is off by a factor twelve and i think for so many of our goals we are inadvertently doing match ourselves. That we've never actually taken the time to to look at or to ask people who have accomplished what we want to accomplish. Okay so chart it out for me. What did this look like. It's not a terrible thing to run a marathon. it's hard but it can be done but what is terrible is if you think you're running a half marathon and you're at the finish line in somebody's like oh sorry. It's actually a marathon. And so i think scoping it out in enable us to understand a little bit more what we're signing up for so we don't get blindsided and we don't get discouraged. Yeah and you know you talk about looking for raindrops. You're saying these are small signs of success that if you keep doing something you can start to see little indications that things are going right. Yeah that's that's exactly right for so many of us. I think we were trained culturally to be looking for the big win you know and that will now of up on the podium. Okay you know. Finally done it with the problem. Is those things. Take a ruling on time and so along the way. There are signs of success just like when a rainstorm is starting. It doesn't usually go from zero. To an instant deluge there are a few raindrops along the way. Where you're you're almost wondering like was that even at what was that was that a raindrop and you're doubting it a little bit but we need to look for those little signs because that is what shows us. We're moving in the right direction and we're making progress. It might seem small. Might seem random. Okay you're invited to speak at a conference but they're not gonna pay you or you're invited to speak at a conference but you have the random little breakout session. Not the keynote. Whatever it is you might diminish it but now the point is that people are starting to be interested in what you have to say. No maybe you're getting more linked in requests because hey people are interested in meeting you. Those are the signs we need to notice. Awesome and another fun tip from the book to keep our career. Sustainable long term is to optimize for interesting that we shouldn't be just thinking of. What is the obvious next step. But what makes an interesting life. I'm very curious how you've done that in your life. Because i think you have a couple of cool side projects you could tell us about. Yeah thank you. Well i think so often in our cultural conversation around you know. What are we here for. Which we'd be doing. We tend to really polarize the conversation between either. Just optimizing for money Let's let's just make a ton money. Make bank focused on that or fallow. Your passion follow your heart. And that's great too but a lot of people don't necessarily know what their passion is or they're just they're just not sure maybe they've been working so hard and so long they kind of lost touch with what it is and so what i like to suggest instead is that we just lowered the bar make it easier for ourselves. Take the pressure off and instead of looking for like your soul major activity just say is it interesting. Do i want to learn more about it. Is this direction. I would like to move more in and if you have a choice between something to different things pick the one. That's more interesting and so in my own life. Certainly i have worked to to try a lot of different things i in the last few years took a number of stand up comedy classes. I have started writing musical theater and have completed a two year training program in musical theater writing. So i've been nurturing aside passions during cova i started taking weekly ping pong lessons. So i've been i've been working on it. I know you laura. You're very devoted to your choir which is really cool. I mean you've got your own interesting sideline still as chair. I really like the idea of the two year. Musical theater program Doray rights next hamilton. You guys are all going to be hearing. I heard her here first. So all these cool things and writing your books your career and all that it takes time it time to invest in building a career as well as to get that breakthrough idea to reach the next step. How do i find the time you have tracked your time. I know and you december's job you. That may be true but you have done it. Many people don't when i suggested discovered something interesting. How you were in fact making more time. True certain strategic activities. Can you tell our listeners. A little bit about that. That is true yes. I didn't know what had find. When i embarked on my time tracking experiment but i am certainly a fan of data. In general and laura is a persuasive advocate of the value of time tracking. So i actually did this twice. And i've written articles about all of what i excavated. But i did a time tracking experiment in february of twenty eighteen and also again in december of twenty twenty so seeing overtime what had learned or what i've gotten better at and something that actually was relatively constant something positive that i noticed in two thousand eighteen that i wanted to retain was. We always think culturally in our conversation about. Multitasking is being bad multitasking. Terrible your you know. Your mind is distracted. You're not doing anything well and that is true. If you are trying to do too fundamentally similar tasks you know. If i'm trying to simultaneously respond to an email and beyond laura's podcast that would be bad but there are types of complementary activities where you can actually multiply the benefit of it by doing two things at the same time. So i really tried to think about this period activities so something. I actually do super frequently. I did this last night. Is i will be taking a long walk. Which is a good form of exercise and relaxation. And i'll call my mom while i'm doing that and so you know i tried to never just call my mom when i'm sitting on my couch because i mean that's that's fine but if i can kill two birds with one stone. I would much rather do that. And you can do the same thing with exercising in listening to professional development audiobooks or your cooking dinner and your whatever you know listening to something you could make sure that you are You know to quote keith variety that you're never eating alone so that your dining and networking so. There's a lot of possibilities. Yeah i think a lot of our listeners have never eaten alone over the last eighteen months because had their families in their house. All meals that's right networking with your presence over which i do want to fit to the pandemic because you know again part of playing the long game we're gonna go through these ups and downs these large things. We can't control as well and it can be very frustrating if you put a lot of effort into building a certain thing as part of your life and then it disappeared for example. I'm sure you like me. Did a lot of public speaking in two thousand nineteen twenty twenty..

"Had a lot of insight about just self expression because he'd written blogger software and so if anybody was going to pull it off it would be it would be have and the the thing that worked against was apple decided to give away podcasting on. I tunes a week after. We did the the series. Do you think that there'll be a decca coroner multi-billon our company in the podcasting space in the next five to ten years. I think they're very well could be because i think that i. I don't think apple's really improve their podcasting at very. By if anything it may may have gotten worse in recent times so i think there could be but even if there is it doesn't feel as much like a a. Why now or and earn secret is it did this. Is you know when. I invest two thousand five. And and i think odio could if if apple just never done podcasting app it may have been a different story with audio. Yeah how do you think about that. You usually people sort of scoff at the idea of. Why couldn't google do this or i couldn't facebook do that. And they say oh you that. That's not you peterborough. this tweet. If investors and invest in your company because they think focal. Send it to me all invest. But this was actually case. Where apple did do that. And that disrupted the disrupted the company. How do you think about incumbents. Yeah and and it's funny because like you could say okay. Does that mean you learned a lesson. Not to invest in companies. Like odio in the future and i knowing what i knew at the time i would write that check again and the and the reason is that like i like to say that the reason i like the thunder lizard metaphor is that you know thunder lizards. Come from the you know. They come from radioactive atomic eggs and they swim across the the ocean and they destroy cities and stuff. But what what you really want care about is is the egg radioactive startups or super risky to begin with and so you're you're hoping to fund a capitalist mutation and studying what didn't work we find is not the right thing we what we what we wanna understand are the risks worth taking and so we try to study the things that did work and ask could go right now if you're in private equity you've got care more about what goes wrong because you're putting in tons money and you care about risk but in in our face risk is something you take and rather than something you worry about and so some risks that you take don't work but that doesn't mean it was a bad risk it just means you took a calculated risk..

"I was oblivious to that part so we talked about it a little bit earlier. Andrew with the ariana grande a four nine concert. But how do you feel about the past. The video game industry is going right now where it's at in two thousand twenty one. So that's a multifaceted question. Yes there's a lot of things going on the biggest ones i'd have to say. Is they need to really sit down. And don't fall to the pressure of the people like cyberpunk did so. Do your game do it. Well don't you know it's like yeah if it's taken five years. So what if it takes six look at final fantasy seven remake. That's been fifteen years twenty years whatever. The number is specifically took forever. And now we're gonna wait another five ten years for it to be completely done but it's worth it. Yes the remake is definitely worth it. right what. I'd say complete the games before getting them out. Don't just like all we're going to send this out. It's complete then like take a year to fix it sometimes. You can't avoid it. i understand that. So like looking at no-man's sky big fine. It's great now but you know For that one. That's that's their I know everybody's getting all fidgety. For a battle passes right battle passes can be great battle passes can be horrible star wars bell frontier. I'm looking at you yeah. I'm on burn people. I'm i i don't pull punches. You sit in a store for eight to ten hours a day. You don't pull punches anymore. It's like you're sitting there. I'm not no not no stop store and you're and you're in the front of your online people are coming in and they're complaining to you in person. Exactly you develop you code it the game you know. They're on their up. You're like what i just buying selling repair back up. Got a question from the twits chat here says. Jfk asked What i was thinking out. Which should they re master goldeneye on sixty four which was a revolutionary Shooter game what do you think about that. I actually just answered the question. That so i know i've done so much research on this just this question alone because xbox rare and i was reading up on it so the problem with golden eye getting remastered they have to go out and not only pay the inflamming family who created james bond. They have to pay the. That's right Owner of the franchise stuff. I forget who owns it off the top my head. Now i think it's they also i The half because of pierce brosnan being in there. And i forget the girl's name the bad guys named the got the odd job. They got jaw they have to. They have to sign contracts for everybody that was from the movie and in the game because they wrote into their contracts so there's tons money that has to get thrown around now. If this was ten years ago finneran years ago and they did it they. I know they did a remastered of it. On the three sixty which was golden eye reloaded. That was probably the only thing they were going to do.

Hd are be not marketing helped dot com. And by the way if you want help with positioning yourself as the dominant Credible source of service in solution in your marketplace. Feel free to contact me to you know. Get a bounce ideas of just get started and you can just reach out to me and ask any question at contact. Cut her bed marketing. Help dot com and from there. We'll see where to go next right and aside from that. Let's jump into today's episode. Where i can show you how. Essentially to get a peace of mind and freedom to choose and the freedom to choose who you went to work with and then show you how to consistently get your classes. Events webinars and the field up with clyde appointments and position as to knowledgeable experts in your marketplace. That's the first thing you do. Here is unit focus on having a lead generation process. Now before you think. Oh i have a lead I have a elite page or something like that. You need a process not just lead page anita process full process and the difference between a process and i think the key wait. I'm twentieth strategy. And if you have listened to my previous episode. You'll know that when i say strategy i mean recipe and why do i mean recipe. Well most people use the word strategy and when the shortage of the just mean a roughly guided blonde right and my definition of plan. Easy to map made after foods. You can give a lot of people say map and they will can. All some of them will get lost something. We'll find the place depending if they're good at reading that map. But if you give all the people the recipe as long as it's a complete recipes always create the exact same food right now always create the exact same experience right even if they've never cooked before if they just follow the recipe to create the exact same experience flavor. Smell taste from that. And so you need a lead generation process or strategy or lead generation recipe right and there is no. I say recipes because when you clientele all your leads come to your giving them. The first experience in that is a taste or a teaser right. It's like when you go to a restaurant and the sheriff bring stature menu right. That is the first experience actually. Before i go into this. The experience of the room the experience of how it looks the greetings the womb know that gesture. What do they say. How do they smile. what are they wearing. what are the colors on the world. You know the ceiling pilots. The lighting everything creates a first experience and that has been engineered. That is a process in place right. So in the light bulbs go out. They don't just go and buy a different light bulb that doesn't match the the they tried to buy the exact same to keep the consistency and that is a recipe. It's a process. Changing anyone of those elements the rooms. That's changing the atmosphere. The mood experienced that changing and so you need alliteration recipe. So that you're giving that you're getting yourself new leads who are interested in a business but they're more interested in the experience again. They're interested in how what they're expecting interested in all this things that your business seems to be about. Because a lot of us just reduce our businesses into machines of trading products. We take our employees who are very valuable people you know the people these people with the hopes and dreams and their redo reduce them into these little machines. That do tasks bright. I won this guy. Don't understand this done. And that's it that becomes the whole goal by the truth is if you let them keep the whole heart to deliver the experience what they believe experience as long as your guide them that this is expected to deliver then that becomes a really powerful way of going about delivering that experience and then the second thing here is go into going to sell more of your services right so by having a lead generation strategy processing in place. You're able to sell more few services because of that because you know clans know what to expect. Some of them were living by the same thing twice. I know i've bought one book twice actually have bought two books. Two different books both of them twice and one of them. And i'm both happy like i'm beth. I'm happy i bought. So i won't go into that but the idea is that sometimes experienced that you're getting from that is so pleasant like watching the movie twice. I'm sure you've seen movie you've seen it. Why would you try. It's because you know what you expecting but also feel like you don't remember everything exactly so there's also there's going to be a sense of something new as something familiar and certainty that we want when it comes to generating these strategies and processes the next thing you want. Is you want to drive up your business. Profit and having a process allows you to see what's working. What's not working you to see the full picture and this becomes the best way to see what's working. What's driving up your revenue. Your business prophet right so you can meet those targets in that way right so the next thing becomes you need a lead nurturing process so the first one is the lead generation then you need a knee lead nurturing process right and the lead national process or recipe becomes the thing that will save you money on ads when you're trying to sell your product to people who actually not interested because remember any put your ads out there people who have no interest see them. Now you're wondering. It's the same thing if i put my contact my content and you're right but the difference is this when you you're putting your odds out the you've spent a ton money and you spend a lot of energy in trying to push these drive your lee you'll leads but if you put your content out you actually educating people. So even those who didn't boost or the first time the but we're not sure they can get a sense of who you always adds a lot of cases you're gonna take them sooner or later down right and it's not a reliable source for continually Your content will only continually generating you. Because you don't have to take it out. You can always update them. But it doesn't put you as a credible person in your marketplace right and for a lot of people if the by with odds that's not weeding a loyal client that is getting client to took an action because of something that you know you push button there and you made him by. But that's not a loyal client to client. you need. Take him through an experiential process where they learn a business with a develop. All these. you get answer their questions. You get answers their concerns you get to address their roadworks right. The piece of odd just targets the hot by but sometimes they just shopping on price right and so you. It may looks like it's a gain on the short term but the thing is you. Businesses probably going to pay for it in the long term in terms of if they're not repeat business or if they're not good clients than struggling to keep up to lighting up diesel fires into india struggling to keep those generating revenue doesn't mean it's world.

"Of course it is your morning ritual. This is our number two. By the way, if you think we're on 7 to 10 You are wrong. You are wrong. You are totally disregarding all the hard work I put in for every hour of this show. But hey, just make that change. Dara Louis with you, knsd. Am 72 sons most stimulating talk three things I think you need to know. On. Let me tell you, it's brought to you by straw Bill. Coming air and so and solar. So here we go. Number one. Number one is and this is AH, This is truly truly incredible stuff here. John Kerry, who apparently is Joe Biden's climate agenda? Global warming henchman? Actually admitted in the press conference yesterday. This would be the biggest thing Besides this. They don't care about jobs, and he sounds like a moron. Talking about this climate stuff and jobs is that he literally said he could actually get a ready, Ryan if you don't mind what Why, when I say this, not the same effect He actually said that 90% of Carbon emissions. Come from outside of America, yet we're destroying our own economy for this, And he said We could go Net zero tomorrow. It wouldn't make a difference. Listen to this. He also knows that Paris alone is not enough. Not went almost 90% of all of the planets emissions. Global emissions come from outside of U. S. Borders. We could go to zero tomorrow. And the problem isn't solved. So why are we doing it? Because we like to launder Monday. This is that we make cash. This is what we have tons money laundering. Uh, second thing that I think you need to know we get to this in just a second, The Pima County Superintendent of schools Democrat Dustin Williams, Child abuser. Actually asked. Hey, what about the whole CDC study says again in person. Schooling is actually safe, he said. I'm rather putting my eggs in the basket of the Pieman County Health Department. I'm not kidding you not kidding you. Third thing. That I think you need to know. On JIS. Which one do you want to do it? Which one do you want right here. Well. Yeah. How about this one America but County board of Supervisors there the deuce of her friends. They've agreed to to allow an audit. But it's on Lee their auditors, and they refused to give the ballot machines that Dominion voting machines that everything the belts. To the state Senate, three Democrat one of Democrats on the board, Steve Guy order said I ain't happening. We're not giving that stuff up. What are you hiding? And Senate president Karen Fan said. It's got to be more, but I want to see what they propose. Maybe it'll be good enough. No, Karen, it's not good enough. They're investigating themselves. Karen She has no clue. Yeah, I mean, they're paying companies. For a particular outcome. Hey, guys, we're paying. You can investigate us and give us what we want. I mean, really. Come on. Three things. I think you need to know we'll get to all that stuff. Can't do that on the fly. That's a lot information. You try harder. So, um I go on the kale, the website cause who watches news anymore, Right? Who watches it's It's a joke. Anyway, They actually has two decent and they trust me. They had a fake news story, but Foster will get two in just a minute. But, um Uh, there there was the study. We talked about yesterday, right Talk. About yesterday, The CDC published a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, saying Wow even were surprised. Even were surprised. Schools are actually quite safe. There was as the word they used was scant. Or if you want little evidence, barely any evidence so many China virus transmission inside of schools. Even in communities where there was a lot of Chinese virus transmission. Right? In fact, it says here Um, the author's pointed in part to a new CDC study of rural Wisconsin school's student mask wearing, they said, was hi great. Covert 19 incidents in the 17 Elementary through high schools was 37% lower than in the wider community. With no infections acquired at school among staff members. You heard that no like zero Zero. And they had a good amount of China virus transmission in the community. The researchers found widespread China virus transmission in the surrounding community during the study, period, with 7 to 40. Percent of covert 19 tests from that would county, Wisconsin showing positive results. Widespread virus transmission throughout the community there in Wisconsin. And yet, amazingly enough, not one staff member at a school. They're 17 schools. They did this study, not one staff member got the China virus. What it says. So why not open all the schools again? I mean, you have this study have the study we talked about from North Carolina right. Nine weeks. 11 School district's Like man. There's like, very little, if any transmission of the China virus and you know, and there was not one case of a student giving it to a teacher and all you hear from these dopey teacher, they're not just don't be their evil teachers. They just don't want to work. It's just not safe. I mean, I could get it. They could bring in the home of the grandma. How many of them see their grandma lives there? Grandma shut up. Oh, this is just so stupid. So let's play 1 18..

"Presented by Progressive Insurance and all guests today appear on the Goodyear Hotline is it is Conference championship Sunday in the NFL. We have the Bucks and Tom Brady. Tampa Bay go into Green Bay to take on the Packers. And then the late game is the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. We will preview that game in just a second, but first, John This breaking news on ESPN postseason NFL countdown. The Texans are a mess right now. They're still trying to hire a head coach, and they're not expected. To be able to change to Sean Watson's thinking. With that higher he's expected to still want out of Houston. No matter who the head coach's per sources know, John at first, we thought the enemy is the guy that wants and wanted to work with. But a zwei look at what's happened here. I mean, just The lying, I guess from ownership to Watson, according to reports, I think he's just afraid that relationship so much that dish on is probably thinking it doesn't matter who you guys bring in, at least according to this report. I'm not going to be quarterback. I feel my last passes a Houston, Texas. Well, I think they've been one of the most incompetent know that They have been one of the most. They've been the most incompetent franchise from Bill O'Brien to current day and he's just had it And now they say, Well, we could bring in Eric the enemy if you want. It's too late. It's like any relationship that you have in life. Once your mind goes somewhere else, you're gone and it's really difficult to get it back, and he's starting to have dreams of potentially going down to Miami that's ready to win. There's a number of different teams. In fact, you could probably count five or six teams that wouldn't be interested into Shawn Watson. The rest of the league would be so you know what? It's one after the other. This isn't just the one thing it was. Hey, can you call me about the G M? You don't you don't think of my approval. It doesn't have to be a democracy. But look, this guy is your franchise. Just give me a call this guy we all know what business when you when you just do business, it's just about certain things like that. Keep the guy happy. It's very simple. Now you gotta move the guy now It's the caveat to all of this is is this Sean Watson? Is he that Duggan that he misses the season is going to do a Carson Palmer did. Is he gonna say? Nah, I don't need $40 million If you'll do that, then he's gone. Look, We've seen this happen in the NBA time and time again, and we just saw it with James Harden. It's the player empowerment era in the NBA. John what? I wonder. You know, Jalen Ramsey pulled this off. He plays cornerback and he was on a team that was ready to gut itself and get ready for Urban Meyer and Trevor Laurence eventually right on with the Jaguars when he got to the Rams. Really? I think what this comes down to for Cal McNair, who owns the Texans, is Do I want to keep Jack Easterby here Who is my VP of football operations who has helped guide me through the loss of my wife with faith, and all of that he was the team chaplain who's now basically running football operations for the Texans. Orders to Shawn Watson. Just more important. Is there a way for Cal Mick narrative? Try to convince Watson to stay. Is he going to draw a hard line or is some team here? As soon as the Super Bowl is over, As we get closer to the start of the league? You're gonna come in with some offer four first round picks. Other quarterbacks that is going to be really enticing for the Texans and I This is going to be the biggest story I think of the NFL off season the way this whole thing takes shape. I'm gonna put the question back at you. How valuable is it? If you are a quarterback away, if you really feel like you're a quarterback away, how much will you give up three number ones? Yeah, I would, too. Number ones in a really good player on your team. Yeah, I would. Out here we were talking about Nikos is really great player. Fred Ward is a really great player. I'm giving up boats in two number ones. The quarterback position is that important. Let's look who's in the Final four this weekend. There's not a bad quarterback amongst them. This is four of the top five most efficient offenses and lead defense. It doesn't win championships quarterback to do offense Does that's the arrow we're in? So what team is the closest aside from their quarterback to winning the Super Bowl? What team? Do you feel like is a quarterback away? Because that's the team that I would look at offering the biggest package. Is it Miami? See, then they're all these conversations about the Jets. The problem with doing that, I think John is if the Jets decide to offer this huge package I mean, they've got they need defense. They need special team jets aren't the team. Yeah, right. Right. It does. Shawn watched. It apparently wants to go there. But then he would run into the same problem that he ran into with Houston this year. Was that a whole lot of fun for him to play an M v p at an M V P level on a 45 win team? No. I honestly is. I look across every team unless you have an Aaron Rodgers. Tom Brady is going to stay around for a while that Russell Wilson is there. I get it. There's a number of great teams Josh Allen, obviously other than that. You could look across it. The Dolphins can use them. The Patriots Bill Belichick was embarrassed. They could use him The Raiders. That's an upgrade. Okay, the charges just Herbert had a great season. It's not there. But my point is the 40 Niners with Jimmy Garoppolo. He's a he's a better option than that. Now, Here's where it comes into. Shawn Watson has a full no trade. So does Sean Watson can steer or he wants to go now. We've heard the Dolphins have heard the Jets. I would want to go to the Jets. They're they're way to far away. They have a rookie head coach that I don't know about. Dolphins are intriguing to me because no state income tax to save all your money. You're making a ton money a year and they are to me a quarterback away. Not maybe from winning the Super Bowl but a quarterback away from being very serious contenders with Buffalo. Maybe New England comes back, but every team in the league save five Would be in onto Shawn Watson. Let me ask you so Dallas if they were willing to move, Prescott could be an interesting no doubt. I think the Texans would want to send him to the NFC. Like a team like Pittsburgh would be interesting to me. I think they desperately need to deal with their quarterback situation is we move through the bedrock bliss, Berger Erin, It looks like it might be over. But also a team like I think the Chicago Bears or a quarterback away, and they haven't had a franchise quarterback in Chicago, John ever I mean, really playing, you know, say what you want about Jim McMahon.
