But when i was on the phone with you oh boy whenever that was maybe nine months ago right. I promise that our design engineering team in troy alabama would be taking some very citing cool sexy stuff out of the pipeline in the very near future and here. We are well here. We are in fact before we go to town on the details and he might just talk for a second about what you guys have done in terms of having an operation in troy. Well it's really big news for us and again with what's going on the world the last year and a half with the pandemic i dunno where we would be today without the alabama facility. Last time we spoke we had a little over two hundred folks down there. And now we've more than double that we have about four hundred seventy employees down there. Wow i suppose we officially announce the opening the facility almost three years ago maybe about two years ago we started operations down there and now we're really i guess you could say quote unquote hammering down there so we are running facility seven days a week and you know all almost all the administrative functions are down there but particularly of of most noteworthy is the commitment to design engineering we more than tripled our number design engineers when we went down to alabama and that was the big goal. The big goal is to pull people from auburn georgia tech university of alabama. And have them be able to work in an environment where they could play with their toys. They with their guns on the ornette when they weren't work designing these fabulous new guns so we have two hundred and twenty five thousand square feet. She in alabama that literally exactly doubled our manufacturing capacity and we. We didn't with the bubble. I mean obviously we're in the greatest firearms bubble of all time. No kidding we. We didn't lower on our production. You know one little bit and new york and new jersey and we're literally working seven days per week and all of our facilities.

"That the majority came from my father that His accountant and attorneys were advising him. As i would never grow in the family business while he was the ceo. The way to learn business was to go do it for myself. It wasn't me chasing him to lend me the money. It was really a an investment in any let me fifty thousand dollars was the amount nineteen. It was a lot of money back then. But if you consider what it would cost you to train a ceo in the business for the risky took. I mean he had you know some inventory to secure the money to type of thing in the store but it was a great investment on his part to be able to mentor me but allow me to on in a small business. That if i failed it wasn't the end. The world at groom me to take over his seat in the family business. Which i later did that's really interesting. You mentioned failures bob. I'm interested to hear what what sort of growing pains that you have on this journey to being a business leader that you might wanna share with the audience and what. What are the things that you learned the hard way in this journey. Wow there's a there's a lot of Lessons and times. I fell down and and as they say it doesn't matter how many times you fall down it's about how many times you get back up when i failed and perhaps didn't hire. The right person trusted people give credit. Where credit shouldn't have been given and had minor losses that certainly train me through my business career and probably some of my bigger failures were in other people where i was too trusting and that is my heart is to trust maybe too soon. I bought a little electronic marine business. I was the absentee owner. And i trusted the employees. That were there to run it for me and that ended poorly that i lost money on that and how to close the store. 'cause they weren't trustworthy that trust continues onto this day in the business that i'm currently in with one hundred seventy employees. It's the key word of how we denote our business. It's on the side of every dump truck. The we own says trusted because we want to be trusted by our customers. But in order to do that you have to earn trust of your employees. Give trust to your employees to to work and live in a trusting environment so to me. Trust is really a key word for my past. Bliss jump into the family side of things because as leaders of our businesses. You and i are similar age. Finding leadership in the family to carry on a business enterprise or to carry on the family enterprises that united had hours of conversations about that. When you look at your your family what instincts. You have to have to pick that next leader of the family or or or have trust to europe to your point in a family member to take the legacy that you've developed with all the values you've developed through your lifetime. How do you not trust that going. Forward that's difficult because we you overlay the emotional connection to a family member into the business environment which already is challenging enough. And it's like coaching your own kid. In sport you're either too hard on number two soft on him and in business. You have the same dream you want them to take over for you and maybe have blind spots. You don't see where their week were. You given preferential treatment. So there's there's so many traps you really need professional advice. Probably some outside advice. Certainly some key advisers into company that can help you balance.
