The Evil Reason Why Randall Terry's 'Operation Rescue' Shut Down
"To ask you, so operation rescue was launched in 1987, ended effectively in 94. And what have you been doing in the roughly three decades since it officially shut down? The Clinton administration made it their mission to break our back. So Janet Reno and one of her first press conferences said that her main objective was to stop operation rescue. Janet Reno was the attorney general for Bill Clinton. And in case people don't remember her, she looked a lot like sasquatch. Yeah, she was not a lot of times people get the names mixed up. But she was the attorney general that looked a lot like Susquehanna. No, listen, I have to joke around because it's such bitter sick stuff we're discussing. She was evil. They passed a ministration decided. Think about this, folks. I want you to want you to hear the Clinton administration decided we want to break the back of operation rescue. Let's think about that. Why? Why would they put everything on the line? To end a movement, a peaceful movement to end abortion. Why would the clintons do that? But they did. So go ahead. Well, they were baby killers is the answer. They believed in shedding innocent blood. They were the villain in the story.

Former US Attorney Jay Town Talks About Bill Barr
"Sit and talk to Bill Barr was like, across between talking to your dad, an attorney, and the school principal. It was like, you wasn't sure what you were going to get from it, but it was. You just nailed it. Well, if it was 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., there was sort of a different flavor of the bill you were getting, right? And look, all three are very different. Jeff Sessions had a sort of soft southern style to him, Matt Whitaker is a good friend of mine. I was actually with him last week, and he was, you know, he was in a room he was acting for a few months. And did his level best, but general Barr, Bill was, you know, look, he came in at a very awkward time to come in as the attorney general. You have these investigations into the president of the United States, the Mueller investigation being the most prominent. And then, you know, you fast forward, I think maybe less than a year, and then COVID hits, and then you have that summer of unrest. You have the Derek Chauvin, George Floyd, incident, which caused more unrest around the country. And then you have a lot of election issues that were very complicated and he left before January 6th, but that was also a part of Jeff Rosen when he was the acting attorney general after Bill. You know, we used to sort of quip that sleepy little Department of Justice. You know, nothing ever going on. It was, and I'll say this, Doug, it's important that when you're out in the field as a United States attorney and you're running an office of a 150 people, you got 60 assistant U.S. attorneys as the U.S. attorney you're in charge of all the prosecutor investigative agencies so the FBI DEA ATF, Secret Service Marshals. And HSI and when you have the chaos in Washington D.C., which might as well be half a block down the road when you have that type of chaos. It does impact all of the 93 U.S. attorneys in the 94 U.S. attorney's offices.

Former US Attorney Jay Town on the Politicization of Our Legal System
"I want to talk about Jay as we talk about U.S. attorney's office in many different ways and it's always and it seems like to me over the last someone who started on is ranking memory judiciary committee and we had to deal with this a lot. The position and I'm not going to say it's not always been political, but JD see it becoming more political inside the last 20 years. Well, I sure hope not. I mean, I think that one of the problems that maybe it's not even a problem, but you know your direction as the United States attorney comes from the Deputy Attorney General and the attorney general of the United States. And so the priorities of your prosecution, I mean, you're still going to do dope and guns and bad guy stuff, terrorism. That's never not a priority of any administration. But you do tend to get into, okay, we need more white collar prosecutions. We need more public corruption prosecutions. And if you have a more aggressive appointee at Maine justice, whether it's in on the 5th or fourth floors or whether it is the, you know, the individual, the assistant attorney general in charge of public corruption, let's say, then if they're aggressive, they're going to start pushing cases out to the districts. And there are 94 districts 93 United States attorneys in the country. And it does sort of start to feel like, okay, more politicians are being prosecuted or more bankers and businessmen. And so you do get a feel that, okay, suddenly there's targets on the backs of executives or politicians. But really what it is is you just have more aggression, I think, coming out of main justice for certain priorities beyond those sort of normal three of guns dope terrorism, things like that.

Why Rand Paul Opposes a TikTok Ban
"Want to focus now on an article that I just saw from Rand Paul. It's published in a local paper in Kentucky, the courier journal, and it is a full throated defense. Yes, a defense of TikTok. Now, Rand Paul makes several arguments that are worth considering and I wanted to highlight them and comment on them. The first thing is he says that congressional Republicans have come with and come up with a national strategy to a permanently lose elections for a generation. Ban a social media app called TikTok that has 94 million primarily that 94 million primarily young Americans use. So we're starting off with a sort of Prudential argument. Hey, listen. Lots of young people use TikTok. They obviously like TikTok. Their fans of TikTok, so you want to take away their TikTok. Well, what are they going to think about a party that's trying to do that? Now Rand Paul realizes there are Democrats who are pushing this as well, but he goes, look, the Democrats are really clever, they'll leave they know how to push something and then when it's enacted, they blame the Republicans for having pushed it as well. So this is something that will be a millstone around the neck of the Republicans. That's point number one. Number two, Ryan Paul goes on to say the complaint, of course, is that TikTok is bad. TikTok is doing a lot of bad things. TikTok is promoting a lot of misinformation, TikTok is run by China, so it can become an instrument of Chinese propaganda, and therefore we should says Ryan Paul, do what, act like China, ban it the way the Chinese would ban something that they didn't like, something as propaganda or misinformation or disinformation, so let's get rid of it. Suddenly we've become fans of cancel culture.

Aaron and Miriam Speak Against Moses
"It is day 62, and we are reading from numbers, chapter 12 and 13 deuteronomy chapter 11 in psalm 94. Numbers chapter 12 Aaron and Miriam speak against Moses. Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the kushite woman whom he had married. For he had married a kushite woman, and they said, has the lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also? And the lord heard it. Now the man Moses was very meek. More than all men that were on the face of the earth and suddenly the lord said to Moses and to Aaron and Miriam come out you three to the tent of meeting. And the three of them came out. And that the lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the door of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward, and he said here my words if there is a profit among you, I the lord make myself known to him in a vision, I speak with him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses. He is entrusted with all my house, with him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in dark speech. And he beholds the form of the lord. Why then, were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? And the anger of the lord was kindled against them, and he departed, and when the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold she was leprous. And Aaron said to Moses, my lord, do not punish us because we have done foolishly and have sinned. Let her not be as one dead. Of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb. And Moses cried to the lord. Heal her oh God, I beg you. if her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed 7 days? Let her be shut up outside the camp 7 days, and after that, she may be brought in again.

Malcolm Brogdon led Boston with 22 points off the bench. I thought we got the shots we wanted. How to Live A Fantastic Life
"94%" Discussed on How to Live A Fantastic Life
"Of that external. And to really align to see each other. It's a global community of women. It's magic, where we see each other. We hear each other. We celebrate each other. We support each other. We lift each other up in the good times and the bad. And again, it's really just all about shedding that external and coming home to who you are. Free of all of the things that have happened to you, the events, the circumstances or the labels in your life. And I think you are the embodiment of something that I say all the time. It's not what happens to you. It's what you do with what happens. And I think that's really what needs to be said over and over again. When little things come in the way, are baked things come in the way. Those are opportunities for you to be defined yourself better and move forward. They are opportunities for people really to become a bigger part of life, not a smaller part of life. And you know, we don't know where success is unless we see our failures along the way. Unless we see those things that have helped us, they are hurt us. Should we see it? Thank you for some of these things. I hope. Everything. I say thank you for everything. And for me, some of the foundational absolutely critical parts to being able to free yourself of the external to be able to step into your full alignment and define for yourself who you are and what you stand for and what you want your life to be and then show up fully in the world. The fundamental aspects of creating a life that's free by design. Or of healing by design or knowing that you're not your scars are language perspective meaning and gratitude. For absolutely fundamental keys. So we are in each and every person. We are in control of the language that we use to describe an event or a circumstance or a feeling, we're in control of the meaning that we give to that event that circumstance that, you know, whatever the case may be, we are in control of the language we use to describe it, the story we tell ourselves about it, the meaning we ascribe to it, the perspective that we hold from it. And no matter what's going on, we can live in gratitude. And when I'm working with clients and I say, oh yeah, it's easy for you to say you do this at the other. I what do I have to be grateful for? I go back to the foundation ones. I go back to the basics. Be grateful for the heart that is beating you that you don't have to even think about. Be grateful for the lungs that are breathing you that you don't have to think about. Be grateful for the brain that is firing to tell your heart to beat and your lungs to expand and contract. Be grateful for the blood that flows through you that nourishes every cell in your body be grateful for the oxygen that flows through you, be grateful that you have eyes to see or hand to feel and touch and grab and eat whatever the case may be. I don't care who you are. There is so much grateful for, and there's always somebody somewhere in the world that has it worse. And so for me, a foundational pivotal moment in my life was the day that I actually gave up. I was in the hospitals. I've been fighting for my life for a decade already. And as I laid in that hospital bed at Vanderbilt university, looking up at the sky, waiting for the Porter to come get me for yet another excruciating test. I was done. I gave up. I looked up at the ceiling and I said, okay God, you win. I'm done. You win. I don't have any fight left. Just take me now. You win. And that day, the Porter came to get me. And he came to get me, and he put me in the wheelchair. And he took me down hallway that he had never taken me. Through before at bandy. And the route he chose to take me that day was the route where everyone was on a ventilator because they were paralyzed from the neck down. And in that moment, as I looked into room, after room, after room, of people paralyzed and on a ventilator. I got it. I said, oh my God, what anyone of those people would give to feel the pain that I'm feeling right now. Because they will never again feel pain in their hands and their feet and their legs and their body. With any one of those people would give to feel the pain that I was feeling, coursing through my body. That's huge. That's huge. Gratitude. Two questions, Ellie. One is how do you live a fantastic life? I love a fantastic life in every moment of every day. Because I'm in control of the story I tell myself in the language I use in the perspective I hold. So no matter what's going on, it's not like chaos doesn't do. But no matter what's going on, I live so fully aligned in my purpose in my integrity in my passion, that no matter what's going on, I come home to that purpose. I come home to the fact that I am living that full true embodiment of myself. And I make it a fantastic life. I make it a fantastic day. I make it a fantastic hour. I make it a fantastic minute. Because what a gift that I'm in control of making every moment count. That's huge now. What advice do you give to others out there on how they should live a fantastic life? Watch the language you use. Choose empowering meanings no matter what's going on. Key things in perspective. Because a lot of times we can make them out and out of a whole hill. He thinks in perspective, it's all good. And live in gratitude because no matter what you have, you have so much to be grateful for. And then keeping all of that in mind, remember, live a full authentic, rich aligned life of purpose. Of service and every day, you remember that your message matters, your life matters. Your purpose matters..

This isn't just limited to network marketing. Coaches, a lot of coaches, they'll go out and they'll get certified, but they've never had their first paying client. So they don't have direct evidence that they can help somebody have results. The only evidence they have is their own experience with maybe somebody coaching them or the transformation results they have created in their own life. That's it. But they have to go out there and start making powerful offers and say, I can help change your life. You need to work with me. This is in the way I can this is the way I can help you achieve results. This is the way you can experience transformation with me. Work with me today. And it'd be really easy for them to say, okay, well, I can't talk about this until I have a pain client. But I don't have a paying client so I can't talk about this. It's the same cycle. Instead of like, I have exactly what I need to help somebody today. And I believe, I believe without a shadow of a doubt that I can help somebody have a transformation and I'm going to show up and sell from that belief knowing it's true. Until I get my first paid client and then I keep building on that belief as I go. That's what I did when I started as a coach. I remember before I had my first paying client. I had to hold belief like, of course I can help somebody. I also had evidence that I had helped so many people for free because I loved doing it. So this is what I say look for evidence of how you are already qualified with exactly what you have. But too many of you have been too busy looking for evidence of how you're not qualified and how you need to wait longer and research more and accomplish more before you can talk about this. And I'm saying, stop that right now and look for evidence of how you already have everything you need. To make powerful offers about this business model to invite people into it with you and that you can 100% help them have success. When you do this, you are going to.

"Then for some reason they start believing, you know, I don't know how to help someone have success like I do. Only because they are discrediting how empowering it is for somebody to make a couple $100 online. Because if I was to ask any top leader in any company, I would say, can you help somebody make $200 a month online? They would say yes. A resounding yes. That is enough for you to make powerful offers to say, I can help you. You want to make $200 a month. I can help you. I have the exact tools and processes and systems. I have everything you need. And I am the leader that you want. And I'm the only person you need to work with and this is why you should work with me. That is a powerful offer. When you're believing, of course, I can help someone but leaders what happens is they get so used to their own insane income that they start thinking that $500 a month isn't powerful enough for somebody to join them. They start thinking that's not enough for someone to join me because they're used to their paychecks. They're used to their way of living, and they have forgotten just how extraordinary $200 a month is. Because if you don't forget that, if you don't forget that $200 a month is extraordinary, you will never stop selling this business model. You will always be inviting people into this picture and how amazing this business model is. And yes, many people are going to come to this business model to make two to $400 a month. And that's amazing. Don't discount that. Don't discredit that. I see so many people. It really irks me. So you're all going to hear it from me today. Stop looking for people that want to make millions. Stop. Stop marketing that. And let me tell you why. It's okay to show possibility. That's okay to say, look at this is possible in this business model. But to sell that as the end all be all. And yeah, I can show you here's my income and here's what you can make to I get that. I see the possibility of that. However, if you were constantly talking about the millions to be made, you might be attracting people that just want to make millions as quickly as possible. And I know that because they might be your people that come in and they are a flash in the pan. They join you, they become a frenzy of activity. They hustled themselves to death. And sometimes I've seen, I've seen these flash in the pan people. I've seen them in a company for as long as a year and then they're burnout and they're gone and you never hear from them again and you wonder what happened? Those are the ones that join to make millions being like, how can I get there as quickly as possible, they burn themselves out and because they didn't build anything sustainable and because they didn't have any of the healthy foundations in place, they leave. And then you have to find somebody else. It is so much better for you to find somebody who's like, I'm willing to do the work for the long game. I'm delighted to make 200, $300 a month, and then building the belief from the holy moly, $200 a month. This is amazing. I wonder what else I'm capable of doing. You're forgetting that magical moment when someone gets their first paycheck. Even if it's a $100, their brain when they see that, they're like, this works. I can make money online. Stop believing that you have to find somebody that wants to go all the way at the top of your company. That's believing that leaders are born instead of leaders are made. It's like, I see people out there, they're like sniffing out. They're like, I just need to find that one rockstar. I need to find that unicorn. I'm like, there is no unicorn. There are people that you bring in and that you develop and you help them accomplish those goals. You have to develop people. Looking for a unicorn, you're just going to find yourself turning and burning through people wondering, why is nobody saying? Why do I I'm still looking, you could be years down the road and be like, I'm still looking for that one rockstar, and I think some of you are even thinking, I'm looking for a meat. I'm looking for a meat. And I want you to ask yourself, how is that story not serving you? You looking for somebody who's just like you? I can see some positives to that, but I want you to ask yourself, how was that not serving me? When I'm looking for somebody to be like me because what I've typically seen is leaders will onboard somebody and they expect that person to be like the current version of themselves. It's almost like they have this story of like, well, when I onboarded, nobody told me what to do. And nobody had a place to point me and I didn't have enough line and I didn't have systems and I just figured it out. And what happens is you lead from that place. You lead from the place of assuming everyone's gonna be like you. Well, you're gonna figure it out. Figure it out. I figured it out. You figure it out, but that's not leading. That's not leading. That's assuming. And that's also abandoning people like, what figure it out? I'm gonna throw you in the deep end, hope it works out. I managed to survive, hope you do too. Instead of what skills do I have? What preexisting skills did I have that I brought into this business model that served me? And some people are coming into this business model without having the preexisting skills that you did. And so you have to teach them those skills. And yes, that's work. This is why I say the compensation of this business model is directly reflective of your ability to develop people and serve people. Not just serving the customer base, but really learning to develop and serve your leaders. So I say all this, as you're thinking about recruiting, as you're thinking about talking to talking about your business and making bold, powerful offers, check in with your belief first. Are you discrediting your paycheck and thinking this is nothing to talk about? Nothing to write home about, nothing to share about, this doesn't make me an expert and I can't talk about my business until at least the number on this paycheck doubles. That is just a story you are telling yourself. In a allows you to say safe and small and comfortable and not have to make bold offers online and maybe people not have thoughts about you or whatever it is. I want you to just look at your paycheck. And decide this is amazing. People would, people want this result, I'm looking at right now. People would join me today to have this exact result I do right now. And guess what? You're not going to feel inauthentic, helping somebody get to exactly where you are because you've done it yourself. If you've made $200 a month, you were sitting on evidence that you know how to help somebody else make $200 a month. You are qualified. Congratulations. Literally, what I'm doing is I'm taking away all excuses from you today. I'm taking away the stories you've been telling yourself that keep you small that keep you from talking about the business that keep you from moving forward. I also want you to decide why the results you have is deeply transformative to someone in your audience. Why it's impactful. Think about look at your paycheck and think, how is this impactful? To the people I serve in my audience. Why would they want this result and how can I show up in a way?.

"Welcome to purposeful social selling with Kristen boss. I'm your host, Kristen boss. I'm a mindset and business coach with more than 15 years experience in both the product and service based industries. I believe that social selling is the best business model for people wanting to make an impact while they make serious income. This is the podcast for the social seller who is tired of feeling and authentic in their business and desires to find a more purposeful and profitable way of growing their business in today's social media landscape. In this podcast, you will learn what it takes to grow a sustainable business through impactful and social marketing. It's time to ditch the hustle and lead from the heart. Let me show you the new way. Hey bosses, welcome to episode 94 of the podcast. Today, we're going to talk about selling the business model and what might have you shine away from making bold and powerful offers to your audience online on a consistent basis. I think sometimes most people feel quite confident when it comes to selling their product and selling something that is tangible. The tangible product that your customer and your retail people can put their hands on feel grasp touch and I think what I see a lot of people stumbling on in this business model and what keeps them from really growing their business and getting where they want to go is their inability to powerfully sell the business model. So we're going to talk about that today because you can make great money with just customers. But that is not what makes the network marketing business model so unique and so amazing. You can have money today with the customers that you serve and sell to, but network marketing is also helping other people start their own business from home. It's kind of I always kind of see it like as a franchise like helping somebody else start their own business at home to sell their products. To their audiences and to their networks. So that is where all the I want to say, that's what makes the business model very lucrative for people. That's what makes this business model so unique. Because if you're just selling to your audience, if you're just selling a product, that's really not different than just having an Amazon link and being an affiliate marketer and just making a direct commission off of your audience without being rewarded for your network and how you develop people, how you teach people how you give them skill sets. And really, I just want you to know that your compensation in this business model is a direct reflection of how well you serve people. How well you serve your customers and how well you serve your leaders when they come to you, are you taking the time to help them develop certain skill sets? Are you taking the time to nurture them and support them and care for them and ensure that they're going to have success? Or do you kind of have a hands off approach with people that you were crew? Are you kind of in the camp of like, okay, now that you're here proved to me that you want it, we'll see you in a week, right? I see a lot of that happened in this industry as people recruit them, and they expect people to kind of show up all on their own and to prove that they want it. But most people when they come to this business model, they do need some hand holding. They do need to be given the steps and given a process and given a system in order to duplicate results. And I think some of you get pretty hung up on stories you tell yourself that keep you from telling people about the business model and getting people to join your team and making invitations. And I don't even want to say getting people to join your team because that even sounds slightly coercive and forced. You don't have to get anybody to join you. Really, it's just about attracting you being bold and confident and knowing what you offer in the world and people coming to you and deciding for themselves, they want this. And trust me, that happens. The best people do not need to be talked into this business model. They will be sold from a really sincere and genuine place because of how they watch you serve online. So I want to talk about the number one reason why I see people shy away from making powerful offers to sell the business model. And some of you are like, what does it mean to make a powerful offer? I say this on my Instagram quite frequently. And it kind of surprises me when people say, well, what is the powerful offer? What does that mean? And a powerful offer is when you are making an invitation to explore what it is you are offering them. You are offering them an opportunity to start an online business under your mentorship under a certain business model. That is the offer, a powerful offer is when you offer it in such a way that you have unshakable belief that you can help them that you can serve them that you can help them get results. That this is the best thing in the world that you're selling. It's only a powerful offer when you feel powerful about it yourself. When you are in 100% belief that this is an amazing business model to offer people. If you are not in that belief, if you're secretly holding the belief of like, oh, I don't know. I'm still not really sold on this business model. I don't know if it really works, then you're not going to make powerful offers. You're going to make timid or shy or uncompelling offers. People aren't going to feel compelled to join you. They're not going to be compelled to enter into a conversation with you. So if you want to compel people to enter into conversation and to explore the opportunity to take that next step and go to an opportunity call or to ask you questions, you need to be extremely compelling with your offer. You need to be very powerful in what you are offering. And power comes from your beliefs about it. I really believe when I talk about the academy or whatever I offer, I'm always making powerful offers because I believe that the offer itself is powerful and transformative. Do you believe that about the business model? Do you believe that when you're talking about the business to people? Do you believe this is a powerful business model? And this is the most amazing thing and it's so transformative. It's changed my life. It can change your life and it's the best way for you to monetize online. If you are not in that belief, you will find it very hard to sell the business model. You might even feel inauthentic selling the business model. And I feel like I could go down a rabbit trail about feeling inauthentic because I do think some of you use feeling inauthentic. You weaponize that against yourself as an excuse to not take any action. You have kind of misinterpreted or you have mislabeled a certain emotion like discomfort and you've labeled it as inauthentic because as soon as you label as inauthentic, you feel like it gives you the out to not do the hard thing. Do not confuse, discomfort for inauthentic. Inauthentic is when you aren't being true to yourself and you're going against a core value or a core belief and you're pretending to be something you're not. Now, when it comes to selling, if you're like, yeah, but Kristen, if you're uncomfortable in your selling, I really want you to acknowledge it's not because you're trying to be somebody that you're not. There is a certain level of discomfort that comes with putting yourself out there in a way that people that can have thoughts about you. It's feeling vulnerable. It's doing something you've never done before. It's learning a new skill. That all can feel uncomfortable. It can feel vulnerable, but that doesn't mean it's inauthentic. If you are learning a new skill, if you are learning to do something, you have never done before, then yeah, you're probably gonna suck at it at first. And that's okay, but it doesn't mean you're being inauthentic. And I just want you to.

This is just a double standard you refuse to see. I think you like a standing order against because of your upbringing to refused the plight and struggles of a woman in the house. Because you've got too much event your mom's struggled too much and had too much strife in. You just went into a lockdown refusal of tolerance on it so any woman that is in your vicinity having a problem it's a dismiss because it's just not interested in like it's too dramatic. It's not real. It's whatever is in the category that you assign to mom. It's all that and we. I get doled out all that. Nice when i have stripe or over. Well as opposed to differentiating it. That's my analysis mission. And i think it's it's just something that went in. And it's a standing order of point of view against a woman struggling and it comes with a whole battery list of opinions about that that can't be viewed changed understood or differentiated until you decide to do so. Acquire super fun. I had so much fun on the podcast day. It was match really light and airy in early fun. You don't like it yes you players annoyed or whatever. Yeah she's giving me advice on something. Yeah i can see that in so being more willing to hear her. She has to say yeah. There'd be better armenian change things differently. There'd be more on me. I'm telling you i don't know if she's going to find something i don't think she withhold it now i would say. Prompt with the ideas. Let's go. She's very early still thinking i feel like there's not he tries. She's very good. She's a great mother. She worked so hard today. Yeah everyone of those is just stellar its highest utopia rage of existence. Yes in credit. But what about this little area this little area like predicting the scheduling of things. That could make things go a little smoother if she just just had a little more four off of the scheduling than the next half day or several hours or the next day could be not with her. Work not doesn't okay. Totally family domestic. My work is planned for me. But also she's very good with being a pro and doing things she's do as a pro is purely domestic domestic is. This is not in the area of work or her life of a career. This is domestic abuse. Okay and this is why the so like you know like this little area. Well why give he would not having a prediction of what can happen yet or later in the day or the next day or that night or his general that i'm just doing that i'm just i'm just nippy okay now i was hoping to lead her pretty good grasp on how it got not one i got. I know bite on that one. I'll try you feel. Maybe every hour needs to have a prediction back into this role. Okay the larger bracketed points of the day. And then i like i'm more free flowing role within experience. Yeah because my days. When i'm working it is so intense. I don't wish to have a a such type thing in my personal life all the time. I do think. I could be better at putting things on the calendar that need to get don. It would definitely like plot certain tasks against time that earn more off just families as not not not any of that. I feel if that didn't bother me because have so much. I just have witnessed all the things that she knows. Issue wants to get because she had either written down somewhere. Nothing nothing uncle you can't. She's just you just never see anything that if you just did it a little differently just a little smoother. Just not the does not know observation of that. No one brought her on idea. I thought she would view. It didn't go that way. I feel i always admire cocoa for being so cheerful. I wish i be more consistently cheerful I am tired a lot and it makes me you know i'm in the safety of my own hall. I feel like sometimes. I could be better like being a little bit more. Get myself ready off camera from the family and have like a better counts within the family. That's more favorable to a group environment. emotionally.

"Try to figure out where the hacker was located an pointed to morocco. Google searching on email address. We found that he had a outdoor camping company. outside of morocco that would take foreigners on these sort of desert tours. Yeah so we're able to tie it back to that. And then he ran that at his house and had his home address listed and So we're able to really put it down to exactly where he lived because the attacker was in morocco. Chris called the casbah hacker and published a report on this. Some researchers saw this report that chris and highest put out and looked into it further. They saw the name of the hacker and started searching around the internet for him and they found that he was also taking credit for submitting different security. Bugs to apple and dell and microsoft. This gave an extra clue that the person was familiar with hacking finding bugs and using them they also found. He used to run a computer repair business and then found his email. Address was a registered user on some criminal hacking forum. This gave them a new username to scour the internet for and his linked in profile showed that he's a penetration tester and programmer. At this point. It's pretty clear. The found the person who completely hacked into france's power grid trains and even nuclear facilities. He was happy to report this to the french authorities. But it didn't look like they were doing much with this so at the point where you headed over to law enforcement does not a lot. You can do that and so you gotta have to hope that. They're going to do their job. And stop the bad guy and You know seem like france really was interested in doing anything about it You know. I went back and looked at subtracting earlier today For those same command control demands still is french infrastructure that has repeatedly looking up the command control domain. Every three minutes twenty four hours a day So that that tells me that system never got cleaned right. That's exactly which which also tells me. I don't know if you had that. I like that submitted in your report that got to the french authorities but it seems to infer that the french authorities didn't action. This that's exactly what. I guess i to be nice about it. But that's exactly what i'm saying. Is that the fbi walked over and handed this to the french authorities and they put it in the trash bin. This isn't the case of one. Missed memo either. This entire thing was written up by the journalist. Brian krebs who published a pretty detailed article on. This krebs has a huge reader base. Which would absolutely have french people reading it so you would think this would get the attention of the french authorities right. But i don't know now. The french critical infrastructure wasn't the only thing hit one of the big banks in france was also infect the to chris also listed this bank in the report that he submitted to the french authorities but decided to also reach out to the bank directly. And just tell them. I talked to one of the security guys at one of the big banks in france that was affected. They clean things up very quickly and then afterwards. I don't know maybe three weeks or so after the fbi. At handed the report to the french authorities are reached back out to Contact at the french bank and said oh. Have you heard from the french authorities about this. Because you know you're listed in the report and he said no no. We haven't heard anything but you know we cleaned it up x ray much. Sure no problem Yeah so know. Three weeks later the authorities had reached out to one of their largest banks. Was you know actively breached. I'm not sure what's going on here with the french. Authorities like is france just not able to respond to these kinds of attacks or do they arrest the guy and therefore feel like this sarah the threat. It's a mystery that i never got an answer to you. But i sure hope they clean though and patched whatever vulnerability was used to infect those systems because hacking will continue.

"To it's to commit cybercrime and it's pretty obvious that that was the intent of the butterfly yet then on top of that. They've got logs of him having conversations with people about the cybercrime they're committing using his tool and then they've got them People paying him for the tool. Saying i'm about to use this for cybercrime and taking their money so that it was a lot of different sort of laws that were broken. There wasn't just he built a kitten had nothing to do with it. The i was assisting with this investigation because slovenia was kind of new to investing cybercrime and so the fbi was more of an observer and just helping out with case so. Chris went to slovenia to testify about what he witnessed going on with the mariposa biden and how the butterfly bought worked and in the end sylvania courts found a guilty and he had to serve almost five years in prison. When i got out of prison in two thousand seventeen. Bitcoin was booming. Adjust cross ten thousand dollars per coin for the first time and so he immediately jumped into bitcoin builds. A website called nice hash which was one of the more popular mining pools for bitcoin miners. Basically when you're mining bitcoin doing anything on your own is quite hard but if you pull together with a bunch of other people then you have a much higher chance of making money at it. So he created a mining pool that anyone can join and contribute their computing power to it to make some bitcoin and this nice hash mining pool. That assertive worked really well. In fact in two thousand seventeen. I was actually mining using nice hash myself. I didn't know it was or started by the guy who was a convicted criminal at the time though and at the end of two thousand seventeen just as bitcoin was hitting thirteen thousand dollars per coin. Nice hash announced. They had four thousand seven hundred. Bitcoin stolen from their wallets. This was about sixty million dollars that were owed to their users. The serta said they were victim to a phishing attack and they tried to pay it back but it took them three years to pay all those stolen bitcoin back. I didn't get hit by this. Because when i was minding i would just immediately withdraw my bitcoin as soon as i earned it after kris ran defense intelligence for a while. He started a new company which was acquired by endgame and then he started another company which was acquired by crowd strike and about six years ago. He's started a new company called highest so highest focuses on the infrastructure. The bad guys like to use And the relationships that we have with those infrastructure providers to better identify Really attacks before they happen so you can think about you. Know anytime that that An adversary wants to set up a new botnets. They have to get Servers for command control. They have to generally by domain names. you know if if you're creating a phishing attack you have to set up a a website that looks like bank of america so what we've done is built relationships with the various providers where we see high rates of recidivism. Where was he. The bad has go back to often over again And we leverage those relationships to sort of tag and track those bad actors and identify campaigns before they become campaigns he then gives his customers the ability to search through some of the logs that he sort of has exclusive access to you so that people can track and identify threat actors. One day. Chris was looking at his own tool and noticed something unusual. We originally noticed again. Much like mariposa spikes in traffic at the authoritative level so this was a combination of registrar partners and dynamic partners where we saw Traffic spikes that were indicative of a growing But what was. Most interesting is Who who the victims appeared to be in the early stages so where were we seeing the traffic originate from and the patterns of behavior. You know a normal person will sit at a keyboard. Hit enter every two minutes and thirty two seconds over again all day. That's not human behavior right so what we see a domain look up every one minute thirty seconds to the second when the ash expires cash expires. we see that cash refresh occur over the course of say twenty hours We know that there's probably a computer inside that environment was compromised or something Particularly if the domain they're looking out happens to be a no in control for a piece of our various pieces of our so. We saw that type of traffic okay. So there's a potential button it on the rise again or something. They see a lot of computers on. The internet are showing signs of infections since. They're all acting in synchronicity again. So chris wanted to know what computers are being infected by this and when he saw what computers were infected really surprised it was francis power grid like a bunch of sort of nuclear power stations and then we noticed Traffic as we sort of zeroed in on on this group of control domains We noticed that it was also francis. Rail system hospitals banks a water treatment systems It was basically just like critical infrastructure. It was really really there was very little. That wasn't critical infrastructure. That was beginning to these controls systems. A lot of critical infrastructure related to france was infected by some kind of net. That's not good. He wondered if the master had purposely infected french computers or if the bought master even knew he had an infected these systems at all. sometimes masters don't know what they've infected they just launch a virus to the world and whoever gets hit gets hit. It's like spray and pray so we dives into this investigation on his own but started showing some of the people he worked with he found and others were getting curious to and helped investigate together the our fault they studied the command and control infrastructure and tried to map out what this criminal has done in how sophisticated they were and from adding up all these bids he felt confident that this sacher was sort of mid level acting alone and probably not state-sponsored and once he had enough evidence of what was going on he then reached out to the french authorities Reach out to the french. Authorities was a very difficult process We didn't get a lot of response from anybody I went on some of my trust groups and mailing lists and reached out and didn't get a lot of response from people So we actually ended up going to the fbi Because we worked with them so much and say. Can you help us with this. And so we set the our report. They reviewed to make sure we were crazy. And they were bears themselves They reviewed it. Verified our findings and then They reached out to the french government from their legal at at the us embassy in paris and delivered our report and then we never heard anything from them sense but just because he didn't hear from the french authorities doesn't mean he can't poke further. Chris contacted the dynamic dns provider which was controlling the command and control server from his net and asked for more information on that user. The dns provider gave more information at chris. He then had a user agent and ip address and an email address that was used to connect to that user's account. Chris use geo location to.

"The wall and try to figure out what caliber tas as always kind of thought about that. I thought now you probably wanna know who the guy is. And why he's shooting at you and so that's you know the the features of functionality. Well it gives a bad guy remote access to your computer to do whatever he wants. That's about right this thing ugly so the working group wanted to end it. But how do you stop a button. It it has hundreds of thousands of computers if not millions of computers connected to it. What are you gonna do go through. Everyone and disinfect it. No that's not gonna work but remember they all call back to that central command control server for instructions so their theory wise if they could take over or take down those command and control servers. That would render this dot net ineffective so the plan was that we were going to take all the command control domains that we knew about which was again multiple botnets under one umbrella that we were calling mariposa and we're gonna take all of their control domains away at the same time two days before christmas i think if i remember it and it was the twenty first or the twenty second of december one of the things chris good at is connecting with other companies to work together so he reached out to the dns providers that this button it was using kris showed them did. These domains were being abusive and dns provider took those domains down which effectively neutralized this by infected systems. Could no longer send their stolen data back to the central server or get further instructions so those systems were still infected but at least they weren't leaking data doing anything more so we went ahead and did that. We pointed at all tourists and coal. And that's when we started to notice exactly how big the button it was. It was huge because when you take control domains pointing a sinkhole you get to see all the victims trying to communicate control. And i think in the first twenty four hours we had fourteen million unique. Ip address single. It was the biggest i had ever seen in my life and it still is. Wow that's a lot. This was a win for the mariposa working group next. Chris was trying to investigate. Who was behind this biden. Aunt were the state-sponsored where criminals what clues in the malware in command and control servers might lead them to figure this out and working with panda and some other researchers. He was able to figure out who had been connected to the command and control servers as admins and from there he was able to trace this back to some. Ip's that belong to an isp and again it was somewhere in spain. He somehow got the isp to tell him who that ip address was registered to which gave him names phone numbers and addresses of the people suspected to be behind the mariposa botnets. We've got to put this together into a nice report. Said it's guardia civil which the the federal police force spain also in coordination with the fbi and they went and arrested these two guys. These guys apparently had some nice things around their home but without any proof that they had legally purchased these things so it seemed like these were the guys behind this or at least some kind of criminals but now that the police had arrested him chris and everyone kind of wipe their hands with this and went back to work but then a few days later. Chris's internet goes down. You know we noticed that the internet was down on our fiber providers started phoning us and said. Hey we're getting you know a huge amount of traffic destined to your slash twenty four minutes or something like oh and then he's like. Oh you know this is really bad. this just dropped part of the university just dropped a government office where we're starting to lose can all over the place. They quickly start looking at the traffic and notice something to mariposa. dot net was back online and it was attacking them directly. But how is this possible. Two guys behind the mariposa were arrested. They went made the arrest and the release them the same day so The guardia saville went made made the arrest of these two fellows and seized some equipment apparently At the time. I guess they weren't really familiar with with cybercrime in spain and didn't have a lot of policies and procedures and what to do So they i think they held them for twenty four hours and then they released these people Those people managed to get one or two of the connecticut rolled back the next day. I'm not sure how they got it back. But if you could somehow and more command to all the infected systems there's a new command and control server and suddenly the button master has control of everything again. I guess plan for something like this and conducted their contingency plan and then they loved to To create massive de dos attack against a us in ottawa which took out our fiber provider part of a university couple of government offices. A lot of different businesses suddenly had no internet for about an hour and a half two hours. See both chris and the team. At panda security were proud of their takedown unrest and so they published reports about this mariposa button and how they were able to take it down. Well the guys that got arrested saw the report and they knew exactly who to seek revenge on forgetting them arrested and then after we after we managed to wrestle it back from that and stop the deed ause. I think it was like three days later. They showed up at panda labs headquarters looking for jobs last. Yeah yeah. I get a message from From petra bustamante. Who ran The research lab at at antivirus because he never going to believe this. I said what he's like. These guys showed up this morning looking for jobs. Wow that's audacious To build a massive criminal bod net and then ask for a job at the security company. Who took you down all while. Still waging a major attack on christmas company because they didn't stop their criminal behavior of the police arrested them again and the button it was hold once again and once they were arrested again. That was that. Chris was done with this incident. Sort of you know. Out of my hands i know the the fbi and guardia seville did a big press release I think we got thanked in. That sucks nice and the net was sort of out of my hands and You know i would get these inquiries from the f. b. i. every now and again for like some updates and victim counts from the sinkhole. Or can you send us over. Dump of log data. That was about it in the end. The spanish police discovered that this button it was run by a cyber gang called. Ddt a guy named ruis was leader in china and rio's also part of it. I believe they serve some time in jail in spain for their actions. And that was the we heard about the mariposa bot net or was it fast forward a couple years later and i get a phone call from the f. b. i. Saying hey can you come to slovenia testify at this trial come to slovenia but these guys were all from spain. What's slovenia have to do it this well as it turns out the guys arrested in. Spain didn't actually writes the butterfly bots. They bought it from a guy in slovenia. A guy named is cerrado and serta was arrested for being the creator of this malware. So here's the next question is like this guy created the malware itself but did not build this mariposa biden. He just created a malware. So there's this. I mean how do you feel about this like you. Just because a person creates smith and wesson campaign you know tried for the murders that have happened with smith and wesson weapons right. So what do you think of how this works. Well i think that there's there's intent and You know one of the things that the cybercriminals that came a lot of the same mistake over and over again. which is. I'm going to build this thing. And i'm going to say hey. You're only allowed us to test your own stuff. whatever but The intents of the code is To be stealthy to hide to do this to it's.

Chris was in canada hunting cybercriminals and working for the canadian government. Anyway i left that and went down to austin texas in two thousand five and Join dell and i. I was the technical lead for their security team For a few years was a very small team. There was like five or six of us for Pretty much all of all of global security for dell and so as you can imagine that was pretty stressful As one hundred thousand employees and you know eighty thousand computers on the wired any given second and I think dolls budget at the time in the mid two thousands. They probably spent more coffee than they did on cybersecurity so it was an uphill battle And i had a friend of mine at at georgia tech Got david dagon. Who was starting up. A company called them bala and So we chatted and he said. Hey why don't you come to atlanta. I get paid as much but it'd be more fun and i said absolutely hell out of here. He took a pay cut and move to atlanta to help this startup but after doing that for a while his wife convinced him to move back to ottawa. The capital of canada and once there he started a company called defense intelligence which was focused more on defense and blue team. Type work than the attack. Stuff are focused was a compromise detection and compromise medication now. One of the things about being a network defender is that you have to constantly keep an eye on what the bad guys are doing. What tools are out there their techniques and what services criminals like using. Chris likes to stay a step ahead of the bad guys. By knowing all this one of the things that i've done over the last several years Last talk fifteen years or whatever. My my life has been a building relationships with people that own infrastructure the bad guys loved the us so could be domain registrars dynamic. That's providers hosting providers and You know those relationships which start out with meeting the conference and buying beer. I've sort of moved those into more formal arrangements where we've got contracts in place and and I can get access to data around. A bad guys are up to particularly and how they how they set up the infrastructure Used prior to an attack. At that time. I was really good friends still emerald good friends with the guy that owns a large dynamic s provider which i won't name because i don't want earning and so one of the things that i would do is i would. I would review the authoritative name server traffic flowing out of his environment To look for new spikes new new patterns which is often indicative of a new bought growing. So chris took a look at some of the logs from this dns provider and found something interesting. He was noticing that at a certain time of day there was a huge spike of traffic. All going to a few domains. So why would you see a spike in traffic will. Maybe it's a news site that's covering breaking news or a big sale at an online store or some sports website. That's playing a live game but spikes like that are more like plateaus. They jump up at first but then stay high for an hour or so and then die down. What chris saw was a spike where hundreds of thousands of computers were all calling a certain website but only for like one second and then stopping. Why would they do that all in sync at the same exact moment than stop. He looked at the domains of these computers. Were calling in a weird one was butterfly. Dot big money dot biz. Another was court a sdf that's in ip dot es. These were not news sites or even popular sites. at all. When chris would go to them they displayed nothing on their website. So why were hundreds of thousands of computers going to these seemingly empty science at the same time sort of were able to start to put together a picture of ooh. This is a really big net and You know it was that it wasn't just one button. It was actually multiple button at sort of under one umbrella. The reason why there were a bunch of computers all hitting these domains at the same time was because these were infected computers looking for commands for what they should do next so those servers they were reaching out to are known as command and control servers. And when you have a lot of infected machines that i'll get to commands from a central server. This is about net. He was able to work with some friends and see what malware was used. Here and systems were being infected with something called. The butterfly bought now. Butterfly bought was somewhat already known. But it really wasn't doing much out there so it seemed like someone might have taken. The butterfly bought malware tool. Kit was building a button with it. Chris looked at the command and control server logs a little bit more and determined that whoever was running the spot in it was probably somewhere in spain so chris combined the butterfly bought in the bought masters being in spain and called this the mariposa botnets which means butterfly in spanish. So we went ahead Working with panda penna. Security is an antivirus company in spain. When you figured they might be able to help since they battle stuff like this all the time. In spain we leaned on them to help with language barrier stuff and to help us analyze binary is and so they helped the We kind of put together. This working group called america's working group which was panned ourselves georgia tech and a few other folks collectively the group combine their powers to try to stop the mariposa dot net which was growing in size over a million computers. We're now infected at this point and it was pretty dangerous. It was capable of doing a lot of different things you know. It was capable of of distributed denial of service attacks. Keystroke logging credential theft And the different bought masters were using it for different things. We did see a lot of dido's attacks By default credential offered occurs in the thing was installed. You know i've never been one to really focus on the features of the peace of our To quote like kurtz crab he wants said If someone's shooting at you do you turn around and take the bullet of.

That's e. x a. B. e. a. m. dot com slash. Dpd today. We heard a story from. Chris davis and like many people in this podcast. His story starts up in high school. It's funny i actually didn't finish highschool bit weird i. I kind of dropped upgrade eleven. I moved out on my own and started picking up kind of odd jobs working on on people's computers and pulling cable through ceilings and stuff like that networks small offices and that sort of turn into a career path for me. Chris grew up in canada and his home. Life was rough. He ventured out on his own and a young age and he somehow was able get by and at the same time he loved computers and learning about protocols and coding and operating systems and networks went from that to A lot of contract work Ended up With contract working for the federal government which turned into a a bigger job working for the federal government. Canada did that for many years Let's say where did you work there. well you know i worked in a lot of different areas that some of it i can't talk about some of it again You know a intelligence where you doing canadian top secret intelligence stuff some of it. Some of it was It was a lot of it Was doing cybersecurity related sort of red teamwork. So we're You know Exploitation attack simulations And so you know. I've done that type of work for just about every major government departments in the federal government won't Let's slow down here. Chris really didn't wanna talk about his time working for canada's intelligence agencies but you know what this is common for everyone. I've met who's worked there. I can barely get anyone to even say what department they worked in and the same goes for the uk to. I've met people who are part of g. c. h. q. But won't people word of it with me but that won't stop me from looking into it more so what's canada's version of the nsa same. It's called the communications security establishment or csc. And they're pretty secretive. There's not a lot of information about what goes on in there. But i found recruitment video. So let's listen to this. You may be the smartest person on your block. You may have the best marks in the history of your program. You may have written some of the most robust code ever speak and write ten languages fluently or be scarely in math physics or engineering. But we have just one question for you. Can you keep a secret. We are the communications security establishment. We're serious really serious about our mission. We provide the government of canada with foreign signals intelligence and protect information of national interest through leading edge technology. We do all this. While facing the increasingly complex threat of cyber terrorism but back to the keeping a secret part you see that motherlode of information. We've talked about has enormous strategic and economic value to canada. As you can imagine. It is highly prized by those who would create chaos and threaten our safety insecurity. How we protect. It is top secret. And i don't know if chris worked at cfc. Or not and i don't know if he was a fulltime employees or just a contractor. Guess he's good at keeping secrets so But all i have to go by is the statement that he just said a moment ago that he was doing exploitation or attack simulations. And so you know. I've done that type of work for just about every major government department in the federal government. Yeah i guess. The citizens of canada just must really trust the government like yeah. we know. we can't ask what you're doing and we know you can't tell us but we just assume you're on the good side. I guess there's like no. There's no transparency at all You're right was much less transparency. I think we're more laid back than the american friends. There are people that certainly don't trust the government and you know there are some sort of freedom of information type type acts and and whatever but i think that all in all you're right where just a little more laid back about that stuff now but anything that you do for The security services in canada that. That's our intelligence space Get sealed for one hundred a hundred years or something and so you can imagine what kind of exposure and skills he picked up of work now somewhere in this time he gets married and still has a burning desire to learn more about computers tech hacking whatever so when i get home from work i'd be on the computer trying to learn more trying to see what the bad guys are up to. And this this this guy cured or was bragging about all the all the different e commerce sites compromised and was publishing people's personal credit card information online and it was just kind of just being a jackass. A person named kira door had posted online that he broke into different. Ecommerce websites stole a bunch of credit cards and then posted them to his own websites for anyone use cured or was really bragging about what he did and how bad the security was for the places he hacked into you actually called himself the saint of ecommerce and he would call up radio shows and boast about what he did. Welcome to even newsradio cured are said. He likes to compare himself to the main character in the movie. The saint basically if my deletion just grandeur coming into full view potentially several law enforcement agencies in several countries tracking you. Yeah totally could bag over for just sort of bothered me. That he was being he was bragging so much being so sort of Full of himself. And i noticed. He hit a couple of canadian companies. And for some reason that triggered me. I guess and i started going after him. A high interesting challenge Can someone who develops exploits and carries out hacks for the canadian government. Track and find this arrogant criminal. Chris was on the trail. Step one still look at the logs but News agencies and victims weren't publishing logs so he had to go get them himself phone people up and say hey. Can i help you with the problem you have. I'm not gonna charge anything. Just wanna try to catch this guy and And more often than not. It'd be like have access to the inside of my network access to my logs. I wrote a bunch of firewall rules.
