Dariusz Service set up your lineups, manager Insights and a preview of tonight's game Right now, this is Brewer's warm up presented by Annex Wealth Management and sponsored by Boucher Automotive. Here's Matt Polly. Brewers fans How you feeling this morning Your team is headed to the postseason. They're closer to clinching the National League Central Magic number sitting at three, meaning they can clinch as early as tomorrow yesterday with the Brewers win with the Padres, Los with the Reds loss that was enough to at least clinch. A playoff spot. And now the Brewers today are looking to finish off a series sweep of the Chicago Cubs, the team that they have just absolutely absolutely dominated. The Brewers have now defeated the Cubs and 11 straight games that is just their second double digit winning streak ever against a single opponent in the same season. They did against the Pirates in 2000 and eight Um, there are now 15 and three against the Cubs this year, the second time in franchise history. The Brewers have won 15 games against a single opponent. The 2019 Brewers went 15 and four against the Pirates. So if If The Brewers were to win today's game they would set a franchise record. For most wins against a single opponent in a season. Doesn't feel bad, right? Welcome into the program. After that game was the subdued nature in which the Brewers clinched a playoff berth The moment last night's game ended. Immediately, the Brewers put up celebration graphics on the video board clinched, you know, they opened up the doors to the team store and have all the playoff gear ready to be sold. That's how you knew that they were a postseason club. If you just watch the team, you would have never known the final hours recorded. The team comes out on the field. They shake hands, and they make their way back into the dugout and eventually into the clubhouse just like it's any game. It could have been May 27th based off the way that they quote unquote celebrated yesterday's game. There really wasn't much of a celebration and The whole idea is that they will celebrate when they win the division. They have created such a big lead that they will celebrate when they win. The division, and the message from everybody was really was was very Everybody was saying the exact same thing. This is a manager Craig Counsell and what he had to say following the game last night. We've been pretty consistent there and we've put the ability to win the division in our control so that that's our goal. I think we're sticking to that goal. We're thrilled to have no that we're in the playoffs. I think everybody is thrilled with that. But You know, I mean, I think the goal that we feel like we've had earned the right to to wait for is this winter version. That's correct Council. How about last night's starting pitcher Corinne Burns and the discussion of celebration? I think there will be a little bit of a little bit celebration tonight. But I think the main celebration is going to come when when we clinched two and then for Manny Pina. He also discussed it. We want to wait to win the division. So we have we have an air like we make the playoffs today, but can we want to celebrate? When we make the wind in the division. Yes, I mean across the board. They are going to celebrate when they win the division. Think about that. And this is not an original thought by me. But I saw a lot of people comedy in this on social media. It's really I think it's interesting. I think it's notable. I think it's noteworthy. Think about the Brewers and think about the history of this organization where Yeah, There's been some. There's been some good years. But there's been a lot of lean years and there also hasn't been that many. Extended periods of year in year out high level success, and when I use the term high level success, I'm really tired of being a postseason club. You to me. You are still a successful team making in the postseason. That doesn't mean that you can't be more successful. But you are a successful team when you are a postseason club for a long time, Brewers fans. Could you have imagined a scenario? Where the Brewers clinch a playoff berth. And there is no celebration. There is no celebration. Tells you a lot about this team. We talked about all the first or all the things that they have not done in a really long time. The one I mentioned today. Brewers have never won 16 games against a single team in the season. They can do that with a win today against the cup, something they've never ever ever done. They just keep doing things that they've never done before, and I don't think they've ever not celebrated a postseason appearance because they've got bigger fish to fry. Bigger fish, and the way it works out to the magic number is at three. They cannot clinch today. They've got the Cardinals coming in for a four game series beginning tomorrow, So any win against the Cardinals would count as two because the.

At Matt Paulie on Air Network work continuing to preview the postseason, The Brewers are going to be a postseason club. They are. I think they're going to end up playing the winner of the N L E. I just I don't think there's a whole lot of drama left. I know there. It's not mathematically figured out, the Brewers could still possibly move into that overall number one spot, which is the way things have played out. It really feels like when the season over is over. The Brewers are going to have the second best record among divisional winners, and they're going to end up playing either the Atlanta Braves of the Philadelphia Phillies, probably the Atlanta Braves and got text message from Doug Say, Who would you rather play in the first playoff series? The Braves are the Phillies lineups are about the same, but the Braves have those two left hand starters. Or do you think it matters? I think Braves are a little more of a worry. I think the Phillies are a little more of a worry to be perfectly honest with you, Doug. The Braves left handed starter thing and we've talked about. They've been better here recently. By the way, the Brewers have faced some lefties and I've done an OK job with all Max Freed. Yes, that's he's He's legit. He's left handed. When Max freed starts if they play the Braves, which is the likely first round matchup. I will be concerned about how the Brewers perform in a game against Max free because he's left handed, But more importantly, he's really, really good, with all due respect to their other left hander Drew Smyly. Okay, Well, I'm not even I'm not even for sure that smiley would start like I get that he's a left hander. But I'm not. I'm not sure that he is one of their top three guys. He's nine and four or the 4.74 iara Ian Anderson, Charlie Morton. When Turkey to Santa's on he's better. The wild card and all that is Waske Noah, who was really good early in the season before he got injured. He got injured against the Brewers when he punched something in the dugout and he ended up coming out of that game. But I just I don't know if Drew Smyly starts a game, you know they got two left handers in their starting rotation. But It's Max Freed, and then it's everybody else. So I to me the Phillies. I don't I don't. I don't like that matchup against the Philly. I'm well aware I was there. I am well aware that the Brewers just took two out of three from Philadelphia. But you you got Bryce Harper in the middle of the line up, man. You got some really good pictures you got you got a guy like Zack Wheeler, who's already completely shut you down on a couple separate occasions. You look at what an Aaron Nola can do. I just that the Phillies scare me more. They just do. I think they've played a little bit better here recently as they've been trying to Fight their way back into things, and they have definitely put themselves in playoff contention both in terms of the division. They did take a hit. They took a hit when Zach Heflin is done for the season. Um, but, you know, Kyle Gibson did a really nice job. The fact that Gibson had that one. Yeah, it's struggled so much in the early going and then was able to lock in after that, and you look at his overall numbers this year. Um yeah, I just I think the starting pitching of, say Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola and a Kyle Gibson. That for me is more concerning than what the Braves will send to the starting rotation, especially when you consider the Phillies lineup and trying to Deal with Bryce Harper over and over and over. He just It's just so tough to get past them. So that would be my thought on that. 85561616 28 5561616 20 that is the accident. "And that is a lack of trust in government period, both sides of the aisle and that was one of things that was reminded I was watching a special about post 9 11 and Specifically the war in Iraq. The fact that that And weapons of mass destruction, and that Mistake. That showed people who were up until that point, still very much believing. If this is what they say this has got to be it and this is what we've got to do. And then that gave people if nothing else, give them pause. It gave them reasons to doubt. That even in Even in a seemingly unified moment. Maybe maybe maybe we shouldn't be trusting the government as much as I used to. That's just another factor at play as well, because whatever would happen after our imaginary Situation. Whatever government response came of it, regardless of what party is in power, things like that. There would be a distrust. It would be a distrust because, remember last time we were unified last time and look what happened. There's something else. And I alluded to this earlier this afternoon on the show. There's something else that happened after 9 11, and this was a good thing. Okay, enough of the negative. Scott. Let's talk about And that is We saw first responders differently. I'd like to think we've always appreciated them. We were talking about jobs you under appreciate before. We've always to some degree, I think appreciated The police. Firefighters. Mt. Is. Those and Steve's graffiti uses this phrase, and I think it's great. Those who See us or deal with us on our worst day. It's our worst day, and that's usually the time we interact with first responders. But 9 11 changed how America viewed first responders. It changed how we viewed firefighters and police and E. M. T s and those men and women that as the phrase goes and accurately so rush To trouble rush into the storm as it were rushed into the burning building, as others are trying to go out. Many stories were told as people were walking and running down the stairs of the trade center. They would pass firefighters working their way up the trade center. We have since then a different better. Different appreciation for those men and those women for that industry, and that is one of the silver linings that came from a truly horrific period in our history. 85561616 20 accurate mortgage talking text line. "Just not a not a great day for the Brewers that they lose by 12. Nothing score. Welcome back into brewers Externals here on Wtmj. I'm Matt Paulie. Craig Cash on from Valley Sports Wisconsin. He will join us momentarily, Uh, some text messages coming in Ray and Illinois a day like today just shows how important has been for the Brewers to build up the lead they have in the division. As for the pictures, I hope they can figure out a way to get some of these guys a little bit of extra rest before the postseason. Yeah, I don't That's it. I just don't know. I don't know if they need rest. I don't know if they but you still want them to stay sharp, like clearly Freddie Peralta, and he's the one where it's the biggest deal in terms of Indians pitch, being in an area where it's never been at before. Um so they get, you know they gave him some restaurant. The All Star break. They put them on the injured list when he had the shoulder issue probably left him there a little bit longer than He needed to stay there just to just to try to Get him. You know, back to where he needs to be and give that arm a little bit of rest. And, yeah, it's just it's something that a lot of teams are dealing with. But the Brewers having a relatively young Pitching staff when it comes to especially their their experience. Having lots of starts trying to be kind of 280 type pictures, those sort of things it's um It's just territory they've never been in before. And again. It's just you add that much more to it because you're coming off the 60 game season last year, So not only are these pictures going to an area in terms of Indians pitch that they've never been at before. They're also having the huge innings increase from last year to this year. And the Brewers are not the only team dealing with this. This is not just a brewer's issue, but that doesn't mean that you don't pay attention to what's going on Doug Texting in saying records don't matter anymore. This Phillies team is very close to the Brewers. Very nice lineup. To top starting pitchers that this could be a very tough first round series. Brewers would be a slight favorite. Of course, Braves Would it be a walk in the park, and the Big Three is slipping a little bit. I, uh I've talked about this a bit. I talked about this during the Cardinals series, and then the Brewers ended up taking two out of three. But let's be as verse you could even argue. Maybe the Brewers should have lost two of three in that series. The brewer. The Yesterday's win for the Brewers, is an all time unexpected, unlikely kind of win. So if they lose that game as it felt like they were going to, they would have lost two of three in this series and something I've talked about is these games not being yoked equally and what I'm saying in that is, when a game means a lot more for the other team, then it means for you and that is the that's the definition. Of this series, where the Phillies are fighting for their playoff lives, and the Brewers are just trying to get to the to the postseason is trying to finish out the regular season. So it's Yeah, it's You don't really know how these games are going to play out because the stakes are different, and I feel like any time the stakes are different for two teams in the same game. It just it's it's a little bit tougher. And you give the Brewers a ton of credit for not losing their edge during this period, where They They have not had as much to play for as their opponent. But at some point, I think games like this, and I think that first game against ST Louis, Those games tend to happen in a dynamic like this. 85561616 28 5561616 20. That's the accident. Coming up on the show 11 o'clock hour. I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to play this out. But we are going to give yesterday's Brewers win. The attention. That it deserves a little deeper dive with some audio, including the ST Louis Audio of Vogel backs home run and I did not. I have to admit, I I fancy myself a bit of a sports person, and I had never Heard the term ultimate Grand Slam that yesterday was an ultimate Grand slam. There have been only 27. I think ultimate Grand Slams in the history. Recorded history, at least baseball, and that was the first time the Brewers ever had an ultimate Grand Slam. But we'll do that in the 11 o'clock hour, and I was still thinking back to what Libby and I were talking about right there with Class class reunions and things like that. Now I'm serious on this. I really believe that. Deep down inside, Ladies and gentlemen, if you're honest with yourselves Deep down inside one of the true Motivating factors. In attending a class reunion. And let's be honest. When we say Class reunion, we're talking high school reunions. I don't know if you have a lot of college reunions, maybe with your fraternity or your sorority, but and I don't know of too many middle school reunions, although I'm sure those things happen. But when we talk class reunions, we're talking high school reunions, but deep down inside If you are truly honest with yourself. One of the motivating factors. One of the reasons you attend a high school class reunion is to see How better off you are then your classmates. Whether that is professionally, whether that is, uh, socially, or from a relationship standpoint, I'm married, Married with Children and, uh oh, man, Did you hear someone sells divorced? Twice. Yeah. Oh, yeah, so or, like I said, professionally. Here's what I do. Here's how much money I make, Although I don't think people say that, but you can Associate a certain job with How much money they make. Yeah, Texter says status, Right? Your your professional being your Personal being your status in society. Or there or your physical attributes compared to their physical attributes and come on. I mean, I can see you smirking three year radio because you know I'm right on this. I know that you show up at these high school reunions and you go. Yes, she is fatter than I remember. She's bigger than me. I know you're looking at that guy going, man. At least I got more hair than he does. He may have a better job, but I still have all my hair. That's not even his real hair. No, Come on. I'm serious with this. That is one of the things Yes, it is. Yes, it is. That is one of the reasons you it may be. Not the reason hopefully not the reason. But maybe You attend a high school reunion. Anybody have any reaction to this? I mean, am I my off? You could say, Scott, you're fully You know what? Well, don't say you know what? Because it's a radio station, but You can. You can disagree with me. That's fine. Acting and mortgage talking text line 85561616 28 5561616 20. I personally have not been to a reunion. I missed the 10 year high school reunion. I was just a couple years ago. I I missed it. Because, um, I got the invitation or you got the notice. And then I just It just slipped. My I completely forgot. And then I was reminded. It's funny. I was reminded about it literally. The next day. When I ran into somebody with whom I went to high school, they said they were real last night. And I went. Oh, yeah. What was that last night? Yeah. So what does that say about me? That I didn't even go or it wasn't even important enough. Quote unquote for me to go. I don't know You can draw your own conclusions. But then again, High school reunions. Somebody of a good high school reunion tail, maybe. I mean, we can use a different name. If you don't want to use your name, but you go back. And you walk into that room. And you immediately look around. And you try to identify Who's worse looking than you remember? Their status is not what you would have imagined it to be, but somehow some way I'm better than they are. I I don't I don't think I'm too far off base on this one. I'm just saying Either that or Or, as Doug says on the text line. It's just the curiosity factor. Who I wonder whatever happened to her? She was the head cheerleader back in the day. But that was 40 years ago. How did she turn out? Oh, man. He was He was, uh, quarterback of the football team back then. I wonder whatever happened to him. Why do you attend your high school reunion? 85561616 20 accurate mortgage talk and text line. I would add this. I think another reason is The clicks you have in high school, the groups the circles in which you run or in which are stereotypical of a high school setting, right. Everybody knows that. You got that? You got the jacks. You got the geeks. You got the, uh, the the Gaff group. Um, let's see what else What else? You got The Yeah, I think that that and any other groups that I'm missing perhaps the preppy that was like the preppy kids, Little ascots. Oh, okay. All right. Tied their sweater around their waist. Still, even now, 85561616 20 the accident mortgage talk And text line. Be honest with me. Now you can be honest more of the Steve Scarpitti Show. Next on WTMJ, A..

"What a finish. Where'd that come from? How did the Brewers win this game to death? They win. They take the series. They extend their lead in the division. They get that much closer to clinching the division. They could do that within the next couple weeks. Oh, wow. What a win! What a remarkable What an incredible What an amazing victory today for the Brewers as they defeat ST Louis by a 65 score. On Daniel Vogel backs not only his first ever walk off, not only his first ever walk off Grand Slam, but how about this? That That was the first time in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers ever That anybody had ever hit a pinch it walk off Grand Slam. It's never happened. A pinch hit walk off Grand Slam, the first one in Brewer's history. And it sends the Brewers to a 65 victory over the Cardinals. This is a special one. This is a special victory for the Brewers today. Let's have fun. I've got to the next 56 minutes were taken until seven o'clock. "Bruise. Warmup does continue. We're live in American family field brewers and cardinals wrapping up their three game series this afternoon. Still lots more to be played against ST Louis before all is said and done. There will be another series here it a little bit more than a week and then they are going to play a series in ST Louis as well. So 10 total games between these two teams through the month of September. That's a lot of times these two teams are matching up. If if the Cardinals would have played better this year, that could have been a whole lot of fun between these two teams. If they were, you know, when the season got started, I thought it was going to come down to the Brewers and the Cardinals to win the division if that would have come to fruition. And this would have been a really fun month. With all these games between these two teams and all the head to head matchups that could have really determined the winner of the division instead. The Brewers have the division locked up. All but mathematically, and the Cardinals are still trying to maybe move up and get into a wild card spot. If you want to join us, you can do so by calling or texting the AC unit Mortgage talking tax line. 85561616 28 5561616 2020 talking about Willie Adama's being placed on the injured list earlier today, as he continues to deal with that nagging quad issue, and we should get more details us sooner than later about just the extent of it and the type of a timeline At the Brewers are expecting and when when you could possibly see him back, you would have to think at the very least that would probably like to get him at least a week's worth of games going into the postseason, depending on the severity of the injury, so we'll get more details on that will certainly talk more about it during brewers warm up after the game, Doug Texting in the program says that's okay. But damn, it's going on the injured list. Give him good rest. Korea's can get more playing time. Don't rush Garcia back either and then asks when Tyrone Taylor is coming back. We have heard nothing on Taylor. When Taylor first suffered the injury, we were told it was a kind of 4 to 54 to six weeks, sort of injury. And at that point that would have put him returning in mid September. So still more than probably a week away from now week week and a half would have been that initial timeline on the on the good side of that timeline. Haven't heard anything. He is not. You know, We haven't seen him working out on the field doing anything like that. So I still think week. Plus is what I would say right now. Just that's my assumption, just based off the fact that we haven't heard anything. And it's the same thing with him. You want him to? You don't rush him back, especially because he's dealing what that's that's the oblique. If I remember correctly, he's dealing with that, and that's one of those things that you can re aggravate so easily. See you're very conservative with that, and you're hopeful that he's able to get back with just enough time left in the season for them to get some good good plate appearances and kind of feel good. Going into the postseason. It is. I'm not gonna lie about that. This it is a little concerning the injuries that this team is dealing with at this point in time. And they've dealt with injuries all year long. All year long. At the beginning of the season, there was no team in baseball that was dealing with more injuries and the Brewers. And it got a little bit better as the year went along, and it's not to that point now, but with with the post season right around the corner Your absolute hope is that this team can be as close to 100% as possible before the postseason begins. And there's absolutely some injury issues When you think about this team right now and in Doug's taxi mentions, give a visa Garcia as much time as you need. We can say that about everybody. Everybody take take the time get healthy. Don't come back a single day early because you need to be as close to 100% as possible before the post season gets started. But the bottom line is the Brewers today are going to are going to try it out lineup that does not have a visa of Garcia. That does not have Kolten. Wong and Wong is not an injury again. It's a paternity listening. That does not have Willie Addams that does not have Tyrone Taylor. These are these are key members of the team that are not available at this moment, and you're hopeful that they will all be available. Once the post season begins, but at the same time, we don't know we don't know what's going to happen between now and the end of the season, and that's true for every team. But that's part of when they made the Eduardo Escobar trade. You know, one of the words that was used a lot when when they got the when they made the Escobar trade was redundancy. David Stern's used that term many times and the idea of redundancy. Is that it's it's sick. It's security. It's insurance like whatever word you want to use. That's what the Escobar move was because Escobar can cover you at third. Escobar can cover you at second. Escobar can cover you at first. Escobar can cover you in the outfield a little bit. Escobar can place so many different positions. All of a sudden you're bringing in an impact bat. That if one of your key members of your team suffer an injury, you've got a guy right there who can go play one of many positions. Luis Curious is another guy that it is so good to have him on his this team because he can play third. He can play short. He can play second, and so if you haven't if you have an issue at any of those positions You're able to put your Rias in there. Good teams have lots of deaths. We spent so much time during the season, getting so worried about how much playing time somebody's going to get. And why isn't this guy in the lineup? And why is this guy you got to find more time for this guy? And that's that's fine. And I mean, I'm not saying people are wrong when they say that. And there's certainly times where you're looking at a certain player and going, man. He's not playing very much. They got to find a way to get him in there a little bit more often. But if the if the goal of any season If the goal of any season is to win the World Series, if that is the eventual goal, and there's other goals that go along with that, winning the division getting into the postseason winning games in the postseason, winning the nationally doing all that But if those are the goals of the season Then what you want is you want a roster that is built for the postseason. And if it means you've got really good players who sometimes don't play a whole lot just because of the way the roster has built. That's okay because those guys end up being a big part of your post season. Especially if the Brewers continue to deal with injuries the way they're dealing with them right now. All of a sudden we're not discussing whether or not Luis Arias is getting enough playing time because they'll be in there every day. I hope if we aren't having that discussion if we're having the discussion about his Luis Arias getting enough playing time, that means the Brewers are really healthy. That's a really good discussion to have right now. That's not a discussion that we can have, because the Brewers are not healthy enough to have it. 85561616 28 5561616 20. It's the accident, mortgage talk and text line. You can tweet into the program as well at Matt Paulie on air. Matty T p A U L E Y on Here. We will pass along the starting.

"Used so much so much annoyingly so much going into the season was bounced back. That was the word we used over and over and over. When you look at the guys that we talked about, Ah, lot of those guys. They're having those bounce back seasons. Avisail Garcia is absolutely having Compounce back season. There you go, Greg hitting the ding, your light ups, manager Insights and a preview of tonight's game. Came right now. This is Brewer's warm up. Here's Matt Bali. What a day we've had today. Here on Wtmj. Also on our sister station, 94 5, ESPN three games between the Brewers in the bubble, We hope We hope three games between the Brewers in the box and attempted three games between the Brewers in the box. We've gotten two of them in and both victories. Bucks were able to finish off the Miami heat and four the Brewers earlier day they knock off Washington by a 41 score, and now they're looking for a doubleheader sweep tonight. Let's talk a little bit about the weather, because that's what a lot of people are keeping their eye on. They really It was kind of spitting and drizzling and doing stuff like that during the first game. But they were able to get through. They were able to get through it. And that was that was good. Now the question is, Can they get through the second game? That is a very good question. When you take a look at the radar I'm not a meteorologist. I don't play one on the radio. All I can do is bring up the weather dot com app and press play on the radar, and especially when it's got the projected times and tell you when the green stuff is on top of the area where they're trying to play baseball game. So I could tell you that that green stuff it gets over the Nationals ballpark but seven o'clock central time. That's that's the projection as it is right now. Hey, you never know it could go North. Could go south. It could break up. Whether does weird, funky things, but we might We might be in for a long evening together here on WTMJ, and that's OK. That's OK. We've had a long day. We're ready to have a long evening and we'll see if the Brewers cannot pull off the doubleheader sweep today. Of the Washington Nationals. Goodwin Goodwin in that first game in case you were completely locked in on what happened with the Bucks game. We will kind of go back through exactly what happened in this first game of our Brewers doubleheader coming up in our next segment. I'll take you till about 5 30 a little bit after And then our network coverage is set to begin in five of 40 different timing Tonight. It is a national TV game. That was another thing about all this so They did this split doubleheader. You know, the day night doubleheader. Part of that was because it is a national TV game tonight. They had to play the first game early enough. That hopefully it would not go so long that it would infringe on the national TV window this evening, so there's been There's been a lot going on, and yeah, they were able to get in the game. That's the most. That's the most important thing. Little history. We're gonna have a history lesson later on this half hour before we take the news at five o'clock based off some things that happened in the game. Today, the starting lineup is out and Christian knowledge is not in the line up. A lot of people are kind of wonder about that on everyday basis. I don't think there was ever going to be the expectation that he would be in the lineup for the second game, having to play two games as he continues to come back from the back issue. Certainly that is something that would not be preferable. So that is the way the lineup is set for game number two. There is no there's no Christian knowledge and we'll see whether or not he actually gets into the game or not hit a triple in the first game by the way, brewers hit for the cycle. Not any individual. The Brewers hit for the cycle. They had four hits in the first game, a single a double a triple at home run. So the Brewers hit for the team cycle, and that was it. There's there's some historic nature to that as well. But how often that has happened in the history of the organization, so we will death certainly discuss that. Coming up later on in the program as well, if you want to chime in 85561616 28 5561616 20 that is the accurate mortgage talking tax line. You can also tweet into the program, if you like at Matt Paulie on air M A T t p a U l E Y on air again. We are watching the weather situation. That is what we have our eyes on and this one tonight. And I think I think we're going to get this one started. I would be relatively surprised if we are able to See it played without some sort of delay, although to be to be fair. I've never won that when I'm wrong. I'm never one that's runs away from the fact that I could be wrong on things I would have said the exact same thing. About game number one that I thought it some point in time there was going to be a delay and there wasn't so I was wrong about that time. But let's hope I'm wrong about this. And the Brewers can play this second game of the twin bill today and be in good shape going into the Syriza finale coming up tomorrow afternoon again. "First two of the Syriza going into an off day tomorrow and hitting the road once again, our network coverage is going to begin at 12 35. So I've got you for about a half hour live here. At American family field. If you wanna join us, you could do so by calling or texting into the AC unit Mortgage talking tax line. 85561616 28 5561616 20 or tweeting at Matt Paulie on air M A T T p A U l E Y on Air David Stern's Brewers president of baseball operations, spoke with the media earlier day had a number of things to say We'll pass along some of his comments and I'll give you my take on out what was said. A lot of it had to do with The way the team is hitting or, more specifically, the way the team is not hitting. It has been an absolute struggle for this team. From an officer's standpoint, it's really it's remarkable but remarkable not in a good way remarkable in a bad way that it was just It was not that long ago. When this month got started about two weeks ago, the Brewers had a record of 17 and 10. They have the best record in the National League, and since then they've gone three and 10 and they are a 500 club right now trying to avoid being swept by the Braves. If they lose today, they'll be back below 500 for the first time since the first week of the season, so Things were not going well, they're not hitting. That is the largest thing that's going on. Pitching hasn't been great the last two days, But pitching has been so good throughout the course of this entire season. When you look at what's going on right now, in the reason that the Brewers are not winning games, you specifically look at what's happening from a hitting perspective during that three intense stretch there hitting about 200 overall there any about 1 40 with runners in scoring position? They've got some games. They've done an OK job actually in terms of total number of hits and getting runners on, But it has been really, really, Ah struggle when it comes to Driving those runners in and scoring runs, and they've got to find a way to do that. You win baseball games by scoring runs and preventing runs, and the Brewers have done Ah, fine job preventing runs well from pitching standpoint, even with what happened over the last two days, you look at what has happened all season. Long has been very good pitching from fielding standpoint, they have continued to save runs in the field. We saw that again last night. Well, Jackie Bradley Jr. If you have not seen the catch, I would encourage you to go find it somewhere because it is. It was a game, not a game saved but run saving, catching home run being brought back into the ball park. Those interesting Craig Counsell talked about after the game of the re The reaction to It was the most kind of nonchalant reaction to a catch like that you'll ever see. And I thought the same thing would happen like it's one of those times where You see something that happens, And then the response to it doesn't jive with what you just saw. How many? How many home runs saving catches have we seen By Lorenzo Cain and he is always all kinds of fired up after he makes those kind of catches and rightfully so that catch yesterday it was. It was funny. Bradley goes and makes that catch. He climbs the wall to make that catch. And then he just acts like it was just a routine every day Normal play. And maybe that says something about The kind of place that he could make, But it was. It was kind of funny that it went down that way. But I digress. The team has done a nice job of preventing runs in the field. The bottom line is they gotta find a way to score more runs. And when When they have the opportunity. I think this is the bottom line. When you have the opportunities to score runs. You have to score runs at a higher percentage than they are right now, and it all comes back to hitting with runners in scoring position. And that's been if you want to go find one statistic that matters the most during this stretch of time that the Brewers have been losing these games as they've gone three and 10 over basically the last two weeks. 31 43. They got a lot of over tens, one for 15 things like that with runners in scoring position and early on in the season, even when the brewers weren't hitting well. The Brewers were one of the worst teams in terms of team batting average across baseball, even when they had the best record in the National League, But what they were doing was when they had the opportunities when they had runners on they were coming up with hits. They had a number of innings this year where they were able to string heads together, and we talk a lot about this, and I know a lot of people don't want to hear what I'm about to say, but it's true. It is. It is very tough. It is something you don't do very often where you have these big rallies where you come up with hit after hit after hit and just kind of moved the line and move runners over and put up a big number. 56 runs and you do it may be off. 56 hits with a couple walks in there. That sort of thing that just doesn't happen very often. It happens a handful of times a year, and when the Brewers got off to the really good start, they did that, like three times, and it was kind of funny because actually, I called out from by people who listen saying Well, you say this never happens and it's happening a lot, and it was happening a lot. It doesn't happen a lot in baseball. That's why there is such a reliance on the home run. But there's even if it's not gonna happen a lot. You still got to find a way to come up with those sense. If you get a leadoff double, you got to get that run home. And the answer isn't bunching that runner to third and then hitting a sacrifice fly. The answer's coming up with another hit. And that's that's what they're missing. Right now. That is what they're messing all right again. David Stern spoke with the media earlier day gave an update on the plan for Christian yell. It's also who's to blame for this offense. Downturn will discuss that coming up in just a moment. It's brewers warm up as we get you set for the Brewers and the Braves. We're back with more in a moment on Wtmj. 360 degree view of all things. Brewers baseball every Monday analysis from the.

"And line drive in the center of a said that's gonna score leaders as long is gonna have a least a double, and now the throat a third not in time, Colts and Wong ends up Tripling in the left center field and the ST Louis Cardinals lead three Nothing in the second inning against limb bloom in the Brewers. So, Greg did you do like a deep dive on all of our highlights Finding any Kolten Wong highlight that was available so I had to siphon through, however. As Doug from bearable, alluded to. It's not that hard to fight cold water highlights. They Cardinals play the Brewers that was against Josh Limbo. He's like the only guy who he's not just the only cardinal. He's like the only guy in the history of mankind. As far as this past season goes that had any success against against Devin Williams to Yeah, I'm gonna try to find something where he's up against Williams. If not, there's again plenty of long Island to choose from. I'm gonna go defensively. Next segment, So keep that mind. Oh, okay. We're looking for Alicia. We just break right now. So we can hear that suit that Yeah, I kid I kid. Let's get to a couple text messages. If you want to get in here, you could do so on the AC unit Mortgage talking text line. 85561616 28 5561616 20. Mike Colorado. I am very excited Cult along is a brewer last season, had a couple big hits and plays against Milwaukee and over the recent years as I recall it, so we just referenced Hey, said. I think he hits better and I hate cause it Miller Park. It's not Mel and then he put sand I am famine, the parentheses. Nice job, Mike. So what happens with testing hero? What about curious? Can you play third Cy? Do you think Justin here goes to first base? I absolutely do. I would be shocked. I would be absolutely shocked if he goes anywhere but first base because you just can't do it. Colton Wong doesn't play. Any position, But second, I don't think you're going to ask Holt along to go over and like play third base. That's just not going to happen. He's a Gold Glove second baseman. He's won two gold gloves at second base. You're not gonna ask testing here or to go play third base. He's got that arm. You don't want him making that long throw Just in terms of him Surviving the If you don't know he had he had an army issue they dealt with in college. In fact, his last year at college he on Lee was a designated hitter. He only hit he never played in the field because he's got a knish. You that could go bad in the moment. If it goes bad, he's gonna need surgery. So There is some benefit to him being over at first base because it will limit the amount of throws. But right now, the short throw from second is about all you want from from testing hero I get third base is a question and I, Luisa Arias absolutely can play third base. We talked into Robertson last week. Maybe they still make a move. That's the If you want to look at a like a positional area right now, where they're still the biggest question Mark. It's clearly third base and They have candidates on the roster, and I think it's worth mentioning, like We do the thing I baseball fans do this, and I'm not trying. If you do this, I'm not trying to put you down. I'm just saying it's not the way the Brewers do things because I do the same thing as well. You here first basement you go. I can hit 30 home runs getting drive in 100. Yeah. You think middle infielder Okay, can that get on base could be at the top of the order. Can he hit for average way designate different types of production at the plate based upon the position in which they play and you know, you got third baseman. You want a guy that's got a little bit of power right? That That's generally what you think That's not how the Brewers think. The Brewers don't think that way. The Brewers think that we need X amount of production. And we don't care how it is divvied out. Maybe you got a second basement hits a few more home runs. But you got a third baseman that it's a few less like that's the That's the example. They don't. They don't say. Okay, we got to fill this position with a guy who does this because he plays that position. They say. We have to feel the team that can produce X amount of this. This this and this and they go from there. That was part of the conversation last year, and look, we don't have to relitigate last year's off season. Last year's off season was not a big success. Ah, lot of the players that they brought in did not work out last year when there was a Justin Smoak whether wasn't Erik Sogard like those guys did not perform. To the level in which the organization expected them to perform. But specifically with like an Erik Sogard, who going into the year looked like he was going to be a guy who was gonna Who knows he was competing for, like an everyday third basement kind of job. Well, can you put in Erik Sogard a third when he doesn't hit the home runs when he doesn't produce the way you wanna produce from a from a normal third basement, and the Brewers would tell you That doesn't matter as long as the entire team the entire roster when you put it into a pot, and you poured out the whatever you're pouring out, has enough production across the board, so We consider that that the long answer Mike to come. Louise areas play over a third. He can We don't think of it like we have just conventional baseball people don't really think of him as fitting the hitting profile of a third basement, But I think the Brewers will tell you that doesn't matter as much to them as it might matter to other organizations. 85561616 28 5561616 23 yanking on mortgage talk and text line You can tweet in as well at Matt Paulie on air as we continue to discuss..

"So the Brewers get Colton long this past week again. Reported. They have not confirmed the signing. I'm sure he's got to go through his physical, which you would think would be no problem to your deals. Third year option on that deal as well. And the Brewers improving a lot of areas they improve second base defense they improve with they're bad at second base, and they improve their bat at first base is well S O. I think there's a lot of areas that kind of you check some boxes off with the acquisition of Colton Wong. I'm not. There's still question marks about this team. There are still question marks about this team. But this is one of the first big questions to be answered so far here in the off season 85561616 28 5561616 20 yanking it. Mortgage talk and text line. You can also tweet at me at Matt. Paulie on Aaron may t t p A U l E Y on air Let's go to Duggan Bear. Boo has given us call You dug your own wtmj. Yeah. Good evening that say, I think it's a great acquisition with long, You know, he's always been a thorn in our side. With the Cardinals coming. The Miller Park was a 308 batting average in the He needs 50. P s and Okay. I guess 15% of his home runs of his lifetime have been in Miller Park. But I had a question. I was trying to find out if it you know, Has anybody from the Brewers said he would be going on. I'm gonna get back that here and now I'm getting excited. But here Then why said he would be going over that just speculation And if so, did you see anywhere? Where he Yura has ever played first base, like in high school or college. You're the miners or any at any time. Yes, sir. The Brewers can't comment on here yet BR Excuse me on on this move yet because it's not officially done. Look, everybody saying that's gonna be here over the first and the Brewers did before this move was made. David Stern's was quoted as saying that if they needed to move testing here the first that is something they could do now. That's All the times a forehand Whenever you've heard him talk. The idea of him moving to first base has never been something. They've even acknowledged that clearly they were deep into negotiations with Wong when Stern's made those comments, so it's I do think it's a It's a safe bet. I'm looking at his numbers right now to see he between I don't I can't speak the high school, Doug But I can speak to is college baseball. U C. Irvine. I can speak to what he did in the West Coast League. I think that summer collegiate baseball, he has never appeared at first base. Okay? Yeah, that Zoe Hey, Speaking of his college on a lighter note, the University of California, Irvine. They're the Anteaters. Yeah. That's a weird It's a weird name. Anyway. Yeah. Look, that's one that looked like it was solidifying the infield. We get the third baseman in the nice guy you talked to last week. Uh, you know, maybe maybe he'll be the guy, Iet's Yeah, Maybe I appreciate phone call Doug. And for those who are one, sir what Doug was referencing last week. We had Daniel Robertson on the program. He's one of the newest brewers and, um, look, He's a question mark at third base, and there's no his overall career numbers. Don't tell you that he's going to come in and be the everyday third baseman. I love his attitude on. He's somebody I like I like guys, who at one point where top level prospects because they don't become top level prospects for no reason. And Robertson When he was coming up. He was a top level prospect. He has not played to that level yet at the at the major league level, But there are guys who are his age there in the late twenties. He's 27 28 something like that. There are guys who have those breakthroughs at that age, right there in the late twenties, for whatever reason there late bloomers and I think more often than not When you have those late bloomers, guys are able to kind of stick around. And then finally Breakthrough. It's the guys who at one point in time were the top level prospects and for whatever reason that star faded a little bit from a brewer standpoint, it would be fantastic. If that happens with with Robertson, is there a chance that they still go out and make another move? Robert Murray baseball insider used to cover the Brewers for the athletic, He tweeted out just a little while ago. Brewer's still in play for free agent third basement Justin Turner, even after agreeing to deal with Colton Wong most view that Dodgers is the favorite for Turner, but the Brewers are interested. That's not what I want to be super optimistic about that, because when it's the Brewers and the Dodgers, we know which one of those teams has the ability to spend more money where the Brewers are able to sign guys in the same way. They got it. Yes, Money grand off a few years back. It's when the market is not there for somebody, and then they want to come to Milwaukee on a one year deal where they'll make a little bit more money than what they were gonna make anywhere else and try to reset the market for them going into the next year. If Turner has that exact same attitude. And the Dodgers are still interested in him. Can the Brewers actually offer him a little bit more money than the Dodgers To get that one year deal Or does he go back to the Dodgers on a one year deal for for whatever they're going to offer and try again? I do think it's interesting that Colton alongside the two year deal, and if I was, Ah, If I was somebody on the free agent market, who was young enough right now that I still had an opportunity to go cash in at some point, I think I probably just rather Get a two year contract as well, because not only is this offseason a really tough off season next off season has the potential to be incredibly tough because of the collective bargaining agreement and just everything's going to be up in the air. So from Wong's perspective Hopefully for him from him. He's not back onto the market until things start to kind of normalize and stabilized Once again. 85561616 28 5561616 20 that is the accurate mortgage talking tax line. No, don't don't make it something that it isn't I Hock International House of Castrol's In My Family. There's one My mom's made since I was a little boy, and I love this. You put some corn and there This is like every other Castrol, and then you bake it with cheese on top. It's chuck wagon, man. Yeah, my mom used to make that two green beans. No, no, no green beans, Nothing greens allowed in there. Oh, man, I gotta tell you, it's over the weekend I made it was a weight watchers version of chicken pot pie. It was delicious. It was, But if I was to pick one thing to eat It's just leased, so mashed potatoes. I love garlic mashed potatoes. So good. There's a compulsion component to comfort food that involves, like a heaviness right. It's never like a light salad that doesn't exist. It just you know, for me, It's like beef stroganoff. It's got warm. That's got the pasta, so I got my start mixed in with meat. That's good, You know, little mushroom and onion mix in there and that Z just settling. It's comforting and smells of the house. Good. It's like home. It's good, Deb. My husband makes a mean chili, but he also makes he just started since we got our instant pot. Hey, makes this lasagna that is just like the lasagna pasta, and it's all mixed up. It's kind of like a casserole, but it's like it's really good. It is that is, yeah, that is the ultimate in comfort food. Which means I can only have it once every few weeks. Executive mashed potatoes for every meal I would even call it is so good about your lips, whatever forever on the hips here. I feel like the popular comfort food for me. What immediately came to mind was something that isn't made by me. That isn't to say that I'm a bad cook or anything but automatically. The first thing that came to my mind was something that my mom made when I was a kid like this chicken risotto mushroom. Yeah, and I grew up Greg. It's always hot, Always starchy, like it has have carbs or some sort of thing in there. Now it's It's meatloaf. My wife makes the soul so let's catch up Brown Sugar meat loaf. And I would. I wouldn't think if I was a teenager, and you said to myself, Kyle in 12, whatever years you're gonna love meat low, like you're gonna get so excited yourself would be horrified at what I would become. But that's where I am right now that your mashed potatoes your life you just love meat loaf mashed potatoes would go good with Raymond. I love What do you think they're gonna mortgage shocking Texans 85561616 28 5561616 20. What is your car? Comfort food. Another one we make that I've had since I was a little boy is called Spanish rice and what it is, is you ground view Brown ground beef again, And this isn't a skillet. You do that and then you add rice That's not yet cooked. Um tomatoes, black beans. Corn, and then you do that, till it's done and cooked. And then you put Cheddar cheese on the top, and you cover it, So it's like a castle, but it's a skillet. You guys need to bring in your recipes so I can try them. And so I can give you guys food.
