"Yeah, it's you know, it's so funny technology we get. We were talking about the iPhone, you know? And now airplanes, there are things that we don't even give a second thought to That are absolutely technological marvels, and we use them every single day from your iPhone to the elevator that takes you to the 1/100 floor if you really think too much about the technology. It blows your mind. But when we're talking about airplanes, I mean what Boeing did, and again I urge you guys to watch the documentary. It's just You can't mess around with people's lives in that way, Just assuming that pilots are going to wonder what the hell is going on and try to adjust and lead to the tragedies. Sadly that we saw with the 7 37 Max. So again that documentaries airing tonight on PBS. I mean the standards to keep pilots licensed. Uh, they're pretty high. But the big knock has been within the industry the technology in the cockpit that makes them complacent over the years. Exactly. Exactly. Okay, let's talk about a different kind of scandal. Um So this week, opening statements were beginning in the college admissions scandal. Okay, And so this was it Wrangled. Lori Laughlin, Felicity Huffman. Some big names. There was a former Wynn Resorts executive, Gamal Abdel Aziz. Who paid $300,000 to get his daughter back in 2017 into USC as a basketball recruit, Okay? $300,000. I mean, in my mind, I'm like just by a wing or something, right? I mean donor name on a building and get your daughter in that way. But anyways, the reason I bring this up is one. I mean, the whole idea of Going to college and the cost of college is so astronomical, but also U. S. News and World Report came out with it Best National university rankings, Okay. Princeton came in at number one tuition and fears and I'm I think I'm right. It's each year. Right? $56,000, That's Columbia University. 63 $1000 a year. Basically buying a Tesla for four years. Harvard is lucky to get out. And four exactly. Exactly. Harvard is 55. So was Mitt. Okay, Yale. Almost $60,000 a year. Stanford University is 56. $1000 a year, So I kept scrolling down right and they and they kept loading up more of these these colleges for me. And so eventually where I got to one where they started actually giving you the comparison between in state and out of state tuition in the first one that they they put on this list that had the information Was number 20 on the list, and that was U C L. A University of California Los Angeles. Sure, if you're in state, it's pretty reasonable $13,000. Now I still think that's a heck of a lot of money for college, but When you compare it to out of state. $43,000 a year Now we live in California so we could pay in state tuition. But this is my question for you for 15 80 88 10. If you're saving for your kid's college if you're saving for your college Why would you ever go out of state or go to these big brand name colleges? Or you're spending 60 k a year? Why would you want to do that? What is the deciding factor is that the brand is that the name Is it really something that you feel like You can only get there. And if you have a kid that's like I know I live in California have made amazing colleges here, but I want to go to Missouri or fill in the blanks day with my best friend, and it's going to cost you three or four times as much. Why would you ever Say yes to that. 415 80 88 10. This is kgl. Good.

"Franklin with you on KGO. The phone number is 80 88 10. So we love to talk to you, obviously, um everything right now, even though people will tell you the polls are crap, but everything points to The recall failing miserably and embarrassingly for elder and the Republicans again. You know they had nothing to stand on and never did, so that's interesting to see as we move forward. We'll have more about that. Later on in the show, We'll talk to Shawn Hubler from The New York Times. She's in Sacramento for the New York Times and also talk a little bit. If you're going to go to vote tomorrow. What do you need to have with you? And that's important to that'll be coming up in about an hour? So here's a really interesting place we find ourselves now when we talk about the pandemic, What will the next six months of the pandemic bring? I found an article on Bloomberg. And it sounds depressing on one hand, but I don't think it fully Yes. Let me read it to you, it says for anyone hoping to see the light at the end of Covid over the next 3 to 6 months, scientists are bad news. Brace yourself of more of what we've already been through outbreaks will close schools and cancel classes. Vaccinated nursing home residents will face renewed fears of infection workers will weigh the danger of returning the offices. Hospitals are overwhelmed once again. Almost everyone will be either infected or vaccinated before the pandemic ends. Experts agree. I'm just going to jump in there and say, I've talked to experts that say the pandemic won't end. It's never just going to disappear. We're going to have sars-cov-2 virus around in different variants forever. However, they won't put us in the hospital. You know, I mean, it'll be it'll be an endemic pandemic. Is what we had. And 1920 or 1918. 1920. We had it again. 1958, and we've seen him around the world before. Um SARS and MERS. Same thing, both very dangerous viruses. Um and they killed uh, emerged MERS killed one out of three people that got sick, So I mean, that's important. Understand? But you know it is to me. I do find it fascinating that people just don't can't grasp this. They can't wrap their heads around just how dangerous this whole thing is. And you know, and I think You know, with the vaccine mandate that we've all been talking about and listening to people talk about their freedoms. It's you know, it's frustrating on a bunch of different levels, but I think to me that the hardest part about and the part that bothers me the most is that people are basing it on on, Uh, anecdotal evidence. Um, this is a young woman who I found. I found this on, uh, Ticktock and I went out and everything she says is true, but she presented it in such A unique way. I thought it be interesting for you to hear. Um she is, um, talking about the 99% survival stat. Hello. Okay. Sorry about that. Okay. We got that, though, right? Yeah, I hit it at the wrong place. I apologized after play that for you. Just a couple minutes had a problem. Um, but anyway, so Michael holster home who is director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research, and I'll have that I'll play that for you in a minute. I had a technical problem. Um, uh, he said, he says, I see this continued surgeries occurring throughout the world. She It will drop precipitously at some point, and we can easily see another surge, though in the fall and the winter, So what is the lesson here? The lesson here is to understand that if you are unvaccinated your chances of getting covid now or approximately one in eight Let me just say that again. If you get any get one in eight And if you get again if you get it, and you are a have a co morbidity. The chances of you going into the hospital can be as high as one and three. If you're over 70 so all this But here's the number that blew me away. Is that if you get vaccinated And then you get both both of your vaccinations. And you should have a There's been 12,000 breakthrough vaccinations. Okay, So your first of all your chances of getting breakthrough vaccination are incredibly low. But throughout this entire dilemma throughout this whole entire thing Is the numbers. I mean, if people people want to look at the numbers again, if you get vaccinated your chances of going into the hospital because of this or one in 13,000. Do you like those odds? So if you're vaccinated, uh, the odds of getting a breakthrough vaccination are slim. And if you do get a breakthrough vaccination one and 13,000, that would be bad enough there. You have to go to the hospital. So you know when we talk about mandates, and and Dr Fauci has come out and said, Now he believes in mandates for travel, And so when I hear this, and I turned on, Fox, you know what they talk about. Or even not even Fox. Some of the idiots on you know on other stations in the state conservative radio stations, and I listened to one in, uh And not even really conservative. It's k F I. I'll tell you, it isn't these guys John and Ken and they're telling people they're calling Fauci names. Why should we listen to Fauci? He's the head of infectious diseases. The National Institutes of Health. That's why You would rather listen to Kevin McCarthy. So this is where we are. I mean, Mark Millar to join us in a few minutes and we'll talk about boosters. Why is he eft wire FDA experts opposing boosters. Well, some others aren't Could it be? Literally that we have a hard time getting the people. And The federal government gets bought any any government that is that Comes forward and says We need to get these to you. And can't deliver them with some sort of efficiency. Will be torn apart. The politicization of this is going to kill. Tens of thousands.

"Is it a utopian scenario that you're laying out? It kind of is And But I do want to make this point bill because you and I agree on one thing. I don't want to see abortions. I've never met anybody that wants More abortions. Not a single person I've ever run into, says Man world would be a lot better if we had more abortions. Right. The only place we might never see that is going to be like a Taliban run country somewhere where you've got, you know, rapists that are that are just killing their their junior brides. OK, nobody else Nobody else, says man, We sure need more abortions in America just doesn't happen. Right? No, it doesn't. And I think to celebrate life is a wonderful thing, and we should support the birth of a child. I agree. I know there's there's a multitude of different scenarios that go on and the reasons why people can't afford it or don't want Children, but, uh That comes down, then to personal choice. If you don't want to get involved with somebody in the intimate level, you've got to think ahead is what I've tried to. So you've got to think ahead. You've got to think through the process, and I hear that there's there's something you should hormones that go on and there's passes. I go on. But please, I beg people think clearly about what you do use protection. You do do something to protect yourself. So you don't have an unwanted pregnancy that you're forced to board. Because I did you and I have a We have a lot of common ground Bill. I appreciate that phone call. Thank you so much for calling. And it was good. Good conversation. 80 88 10 is the number 80 88 10 to San Matteo Holly. You've been so patient. Thanks for hanging out, Holly. Good to hear from you high. Okay. Hi. I just wanted to make a point that Mexico is just legalized abortion along the border state with Texas. Yeah. Yeah, although I don't know how it works. I don't know if you can hole or something like that. I don't remember exactly the name of it. But and as to his argument, you know. Children make mistakes, right? And when you're adults, 18 and 18 your child Yeah. You're still a child. Your brain has never looked. Absolutely. Yeah, I agree. Your words are really strong. Really strong? Yeah. And you don't have a concept. You don't necessarily have a concept of consequence. When you're 16 years old. Just because you've always been under the wing of your parents. If you've been in that strong loving household, you've been under the wing of your parents and any trouble that you face. Your parents can help you get through and I was a pregnancy is a different deal. A pregnancy is not failing a math test. You know, I was I was I had to get an abortion where I was. 16. Okay. I had to get an abortion when I was 21. Okay. I'm sorry. You went through that It was horrible. Of course. No one. Of course it is. You have to go through that. No, I wasn't responsible enough to be able to handle kids. I didn't even have a place to live. Really? Holly, I think this is what so many people face when they have to make this difficult decision. Thank you for the phone call. We just like Holly said, you know, she says she didn't even really have a place to live. Again. My girlfriend and I had the support of people around us and the community. We also have the judgment. I grew up in a small town. We had a lot of judgment. There was no shortage of people telling us how foolish we were. How stupid we were. How we had committed a sin being told that we were going to hell. Just for the pregnancy. I'm not even talking about about arguments over termination. I'm just talking about the pregnancy. And, of course in a small town. There is no better gossip in high school. And one of the classmates being pregnant. It was it was everywhere. We were the talk of the school for nine months. I graduated. We, um It was my senior year that she became pregnant and then I graduated high school and so fortunately, all that stuff sort of stopped about four months into the pregnancy five months into the pregnancy. But It was horrible and again. It seems inconsequential to those of us looking at the big picture now, But when you are in high school, your social standing matters And it's a big deal to a high school individual. And that was something that weighed on both of us. It's very difficult, very difficult. Berkeley. Steve, Welcome to the show. Thanks for calling 80. 88 10. Steve, Go ahead. Thanks so much. Chris and I have one thing I want to say to you when I'm all done saying this because I because I'm a big fan, and I don't hear hear you very often. Okay, So this is what I did was now remember, You remember when you a long time ago used to build go to the state fairs and stuff And they would have the anti abortion boots with the dead babies. And then they yell at people that go by and all this weird crap and what they don't They don't do that anymore. If you ever noticed they're not around. Like that. But what happened was I was at this fair up in Seattle, Washington and I couldn't help myself. I walked up and I went praising the lower saying You guys are doing a great job. And you have you let's get rid of the baby killers. I played into this whole thing. But then I stopped and I went, But you know what bugs me the most. Is it okay once the baby's born Is this baby going to have a mommy and a daddy? Is this baby going to have a house to live in like food? Is it going to be able to go to college when it has gay feelings someday? Is there someone to turn to and the woman looked at me? She goes. Don't worry. There's plenty of social services. And I went on him, right? Yeah, from a bunch of morons that don't like to pay taxes. You want smaller government, smaller everything. But then you want to bring a baby into the world and not do nothing for it. And that they just told me to go away. They they waved me away. They go go away to what? Your evil they started. They started Colony evil and all this stuff and I admit it. I was It was evil. When I did, I shouldn't be. I should have been more honest, but I wouldn't have. It's like the old the old Carlin bent right? It was kind of the point that you were making about how you know they really care about your life until you're born. Uh and I and I see that I think it's an over generalization. But man, the point sure, sure rings true when you've got people like Larry Elder talking about cutting off services to people like, uh, you know, eviction, moratoriums or or unemployment benefits or or benefits for, uh You know, childcare services and things like that. Yeah, I'm with you, Steve. There seems to be a tremendous amount of hypocrisy and all of it. Thanks for calling man. Really good to hear from You Always love that. Oh, let me go to of Buck Ville. Nancy. Nancy. Thank you for calling the program tonight. Good to hear from you. Hello, sir. Great topic. Thank you. Like you said abortion. Killing Baby kitchen, All right? Poppy is hard to imagine human. That is the top station parents. Yeah. Have to make, but if you're.

"I definitely got a good impression of his character. And if he will re called, we would lose a strong voice for environmental health because Governor Newsom ship is definitely much going to be much stronger for preventing global warming damage to our state. And then any Republican like Larry Elder. Yeah, that's a great point. Great point, Rahm a really good point. I should clarify something. I said earlier in that, whoever if if Newsom has recalled and someone replaces him, they're not going to be able to come in and institute, Texas style politics in California. We've got a Democrat Assembly. We've got a Democrat run Senate. You're not going to have the abortion laws passed in California like we saw in Texas. You're gonna have voting rights restrictions passed like we saw in in Georgia and Florida and Texas and other states. That's not going to happen. But you make a good point. Rama. That what we see come through the Legislature. For things like Could be child daycare could be could be worker benefits or protections. It could be climate change initiatives, even if it passes through the assembly and then in the Senate. That if it's not Newsom, it may get vetoed. Right. So that is a great point that while there wouldn't necessarily be a lot of, um Like dictatorial type laws passed. There would also be the prevention of common sense laws passed to that's a good point, Rama. Thank you so much for that. Call 80 88 10. 80 88 10. We'll get a few more of your phone calls in just a second and then Keep bringing up this Texas abortion thing. Want to have an opportunity for you to weigh in on that We'll do that after seven o'clock because this law It just boggles my mind. From a legal standpoint, not not even the abortion, pro life pro choice argument. I'm not going to get into that. But the legal argument on it seems very specious to me. So that is still to come coming up after seven o'clock We got a couple more of your calls Next. Chris Marilyn for John Rothman, kgo 8 10 fan.

"I was a background in biotechnology. I get some specialization in neurology in bacteriology a long while ago and even I struggle to understand the epidemiology of pandemic, the average person. I mean, it's a lot to take into even in the most willing To understand what really is going on This pandemic evolved. It's not surprising that a lot of people have got the wrong end of this thing. Quite frankly, I totally agree. I totally agree with you. It's difficult to understand. And when you you know, you dive in and you read. Here's the thing, though. How about this? I don't understand infectious diseases, But I do understand Epidemiology. Okay? I do understand that masks and social distancing work. Saw it work in 1918, and it worked in the last year and a half. So that's something we can put in place for starters, and that they push back on that as hard as they do on the vaccine, So if I can't get him vaccinated, they better damn wear mask and they better practice social distancing. I think the problem with that is that they do in absolutely see it's a mask doesn't work 100% and to them. It's not worth wearing every everything. It's just a game of risk. You know you You walk out on the street. You gamble whether you know Crane is going to fall on your head most of the time. It's the same with the virus cancel well, one last point to that, in one last point, the masks protect other people. So I say, Let's appeal to their sense of control. You can control the variance that would come out of your mouth and nose and you can save other people. I said this in the beginning if Trump had in January late January or early February of 2020 created half a billion masks that said, Hero on them in red and white, right made it look like his make America great again. And he became the hero president. He would have been reelected, overwhelmingly he but he blew it because he's a coward and and he he was more worried about the stock market, and it was US citizens. But there is there are ways to appeal to people. You know, There are ways to appeal to people in a way that they can understand B a B A hero. Protect other people wear masks, You know, Thanks for the call by appreciate it. Alright, Short break. We'll get more calls in here. We didn't get to do what I was going to talk about. "Thank, Um I appreciate your phone call 80 88 10. Let's go to Phillies in Cupertino. Hi, Phil. Welcome to K G O. Hey, How's it going? Going Well, thank you. So I've noticed that conservatives these days basically whatever they're arguing against their plenty guilty of so, especially when it comes to the flag, they break the flag code. More than anything. The flag. Just flags are not allowed to write stuff on the flag. You're not able to alter the flag. You're not even supposed to really where the flag But what do we see? When we see conservatives on the street? They got a big stopped writing across the American flag, or they got blue strength. I think white flag for blue eyes better. So I mean the same people that are saying that work that were desecrating the flag whenever Colin Kaepernick Because they're the ones who are doing it more often. Anyone else you know, failure your calls kind of breaking up a little bit, but I get your point. I take it completely. One of the other things is even with these trucks and when you see it on boat parades and that sort of thing, whether your conservative or your liberal once your flag becomes tattered, you're not allowed to continue to fly it according to flag etiquette. It has to be taken down and then it has to be disposed of the way you're supposed to dispose of an American flag, and there are actual There's a protocol for that as well. How you? Um, how you get rid of how you throw it away? You don't just toss it in the trash. There's a protocol there. So Yeah, There are certain ways that you're supposed to treat the American flag. And if you don't you're not treating it respectfully. So you think that your you know patriot because you're flying the flag will If you disrespect the flag by that you're sending a different message. 80 88 10 is the telephone number Daniels calling from Hayward Higher, Daniel, Welcome to K G. So I get the skinhead labeled pretty much all the time, which is bizarre, and I'm a Democrat. Um It's funny. I fly my flag. I live in an apartment. I fly my flag in my apartment during holidays..

"Where U S a It just feels like this happens over and over and over again. Rinse and repeat. It begs the damn question. What the hell is going on in United States America and it is and I'll tell you what's going on, and it's really It's really not hard, it said. Nobody is actually communicating. Um, I would love to ask a Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell cares on Lee about Mitch McConnell and about his wealth. And now it's about power and what that comes with it, But I would I just want to ask Republicans tell me what you want articulated. Cause right now we're doing it, I think, but the old Republican party used to be pretty good at it. But right now, this is just about as I mentioned before the Republican Party today, and talk radio, for the most part is about finding a problem and then finding someone to blame it. The blame for it. It used to be. We'll find a problem and that Zapopan up the table to how to fix it, But now it's we find a problem and blame somebody for it that that doesn't work. Let's go to Mike in San Jose Maekyung kgo. Thanks for the call. Thank you for telling me. I think you touched upon part of it. I think the issue happens on both sides. Like you said the Republicans take up in this find problems. And they blame people but sort of the Democrats. And so it becomes this back and forth. Like, for example, you made no mention about the whole the virus came naturally. Well, as it turns out, a lot of the evidence suggests that the virus could have come from a lab that it didn't come naturally know, know, know, know how long that that's important. That's important point, Okay? The virus may have somehow gotten out their lab through the trash person got infected, But the virus itself was not engineered. We have to we have to. We have to say that a lot because that's what some of the conspiracy people say. There's nothing there that indicates. No no science at all. Indicates that this was manufactured. Everything points to it. The evolutionary process. How a virus works. It is closely related. Here is the best reason why Okay, it's more closely related to bats in these penguins. And these these the virus inside? I've never heard us before, right on. But if you were going to create a pathogen eyes, some kind of bio weapon. You would have. You would have taken something from SARS or murders or something recognizable that you knew hurt people. So my point is, is that there's nothing to indicate that and that's a really important thing to say there. We don't know what How it got out, and the idea that China would have used it as a weapon to get are given to our troops and all that. No, that makes any sense because China is packed on top of one another. They would be the first to feel this. So there's Again. This is the conversation that we have to have. And we have to have it with people who understand science. I don't mean you. I mean, in general, I mean, and all these guys in politics don't Cornyn was talking about this The other day. The senator from Texas had no idea what he was talking about. I'm sorry. Go ahead, give me a chance to so you said there's no evidence and the fact there is evidence, for example of Iris naturally evolved that evolves at one stage of the time this virus virus evolve to stages at the time. Now that doesn't necessarily prove that it was engineered. But that's evidence that just know there's absolutely no none of that look like a group of researchers compared the genomes of this Corona virus was southern. Seven other corner viruses known to infect human SARS. MERS stars Cov two, which can cause severe disease along with five others, and they came to this conclusion. Your analysis was the Stars Co. V two is not a laboratory, construct or purposely manipulated virus. This is in the New England Journal of Medicine. There is nothing to indicate what you said. Okay, There's no science. They're they're politicians and and people that for whatever reason, want to scare people, but it was not manufactured. Gotta break for numbers. 80 88 10 Anybody wants I will send them all the articles on that. You can text me at 45 80 88 10 or email me a chip a cage you radio dot com. This is an important begin. This is one of the problems we have. If we have to get the fax Have to deal with the facts, even if we don't like them. That's next..

Those sirens when we were kids, we on Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m., right? I mean, when we thought the world might end from a Russian nuclear attack. I mean, that's the closest I can imagine what it was like, but it's nothing like that to live in these areas. Whether you're a Jew, or you're an Arab get's a ridiculous way to live and the fact that they can't figure a way to do it in the in defiance again, you know they whole thing with Palestinians is that They don't seem willing at all to accept eyes real at all. Okay, so when when sex is over, you put on your pants and you leave the room. Or maybe you hang around and watch TV like I do. But that act is over for us at that moment for the woman. It's just beginning. Inside her is could be a zay goat or could be an unsuccessful. Ah, uh, Union on hold on, hold on her butthole. I know, but her body will go through changes that will endanger her life at many points. Both my kids almost killed my wife on. So the idea that this is something that a man should have saying The man had to say when he had sex with her. Okay, that was just so he could have not had sex with somebody that might want an abortion. Hey, could have articulated that with her. He couldn't. But maybe you could put up a contract with her or something. But he had sex with her, and then he's done. It's her body. There's I got is forming inside of her and it again. It's just in the last two or 300 years. I mean, actually, no, I should take that back in the last 50 years. Really? Worst pregnancy, not the number one cause of death for women. In the third world of this of this great planet we live on. It's tough on a woman's body. It's 10 times safer. And the pregnancy for her. So the idea for men to talk about it like we have, like you said a 49% interest in it. That's not accurate. In my opinion, this is all about the women's body and what she wants to do. The idea that you know that Amy Kuney, Barrett or Gorsuch or Roberts or any of these other men, or in this particular case conservative who believes that she has Again. You know the irony that a conservative things that she should have control of the most basic Protector of the Constitution. The individual is ironic and contradictory in hypocritical in my opinion, I mean, you know, I don't mean attack you. I just think that only men have that part and you talk about Dredd. Scott, For God's sake, Come on, man. I mean, the idea that you're talking about slaves. This is this is a free woman in this country who has all the rights that men do except When it comes when she gets pregnant, and she loses all those rights. Everything about that goes against the founding fathers in 10 abortion existed, then they could have articulated their concerns then, and they chose not to. They created a document to tell government to stay the hell away from individuals. Ah, basic rights. And is there anything more basic? And what's inside your body? 80 88 10 is a phone number. You can also text me a 415 80 88 10 may go to Tom and Santos a time you're on kgo about the founding fathers. You have a comment Good. Yeah. The reason I called is that that choice you point out by the founding fathers and the framers was very deliberate, and they actually talked a little bit about it, which is basically they considered That said there were men. It was none of their business. It was women's business. Yeah, That's what Hamilton said Hamilton to the great. He said that a lot you know, talked about. You know, I don't know if he actually said women, but he was really specific. And you know and talking about, you know, he thought the Constitution was fine, But others said we know we are in need articulated Maurin. So Madison wrote that you know the bill of rights again. There was plenty of time to do this to say. I mean, women couldn't own land. Then they couldn't vote. S so what made you know? It would have been perfectly aligned with that if they believe this, to put that in there and to say that a woman may not terminate a pregnancy and there were definite ways of terminating pregnancies back then, you know they weren't safe. But there were ways to do it. Boom. Some of them are safer than others. Actually, they doing three quick message was famous one that was actually pretty effective in the right hands in the right hands, of course, and you know again. Many cases we're talking about women who are poor and this nation who don't have access to this and in Mississippi, you know, high rate of poverty. People there are getting get pregnant. They're not gonna be able to leave the state to go get an abortion in another state if this law is overturned. I'm a upheld. Excuse me on day, So, you know, obviously there's there's issues. There's well. I go back to the other car. I gotta break here, but we'll get more. Your calls coming up to me. The real question is is, you know? Is this really a man's domain to tell women What they can do with the pregnancy. I'm just kind of curious because if that's the case, can we tell men what to do with the sprung? That they have. Shall we make masturbation illegal? I'm not kidding. At 80 88 10. We'll talk more after this. This message is sponsored by Amazon. I want to get back to kissing it. "You know, they did good and whatever right, but it's just It's something people should know. But I think about like, you know this this cast of characters On these thieves, fringe characters, You know, it's ironic is I mean, Rush Limbaugh seems like he's pretty sick and that he doesn't have AH, long time left to be broadcasting and possibly to be alive because of the advanced lung cancer. He almost seems like a moderate crazy. Compared assed far as I know he's never espoused any of these conspiracy theories. You know, he instead will say that. I mean, he might. You know, he might point to election fraud, but not in a specific way. He's smart enough not to say that Dominion and Smartmatic were were ripping people off on like Newsmax in a way in and Fox all who We're still going to face multibillion dollar lawsuits. Limbaugh never walk down that road. When he's gone. I wondered that does that opened the door towards more crazy or back to reality? I think that's a great question. I think it depends on how much oversight the person has. Right. Alex Jones doesn't have a boss he is is the soul. You know, owner of this business, So really, the only thing stopping him is how many times he can get sued on. That may be the thing that ultimately you know, and the business thing, Sandy Hook lost it there still happening right? He could still be found for millions in damages. But people like Tucker Carlson, people have real syndicated radio shows. You know, they may have someone over them. Who says you're not allowed to Seo eggs? You're going to get a suit. Um, So I think the one of the things that sort of scary about the Internet is, you know, people go on YouTube or Telegram or God, Andre have the following there and, you know they may not have consequences. They may be able to monetize those videos and say whatever they want, um and has much less your fear of repercussion. Then someone who has a boss who may knock on the door their door and tell them to cut out the Dominion stuff. It's funny. There's AH show on Netflix. It's a Western stars Jeff Daniels. It's called Godless, and it's about It's really bad group out in the in the Midwest that were just just You know, a group of 30 people that would rob and rape and pillage in, and he said he got the idea from the Internet and that people will, somebody said the Internet is like the wild Wild West and he thought to himself, he said. Now the Internet's a lot worse. The Internet has no boundaries whatsoever. And no, there's no obvious end. I mean, I read today that I think it was Facebook and Google make up. I want to say 70%. Of all the row. No 81%. Of all the revenue that is collected on the Web is by Google and Facebook. But that's still you know, and people go. Wow, that's a lot, but that that other their remaining 19% Is in the trillions of dollars. Um, you know it's in. It's funny, too, because the I read another thing that a statistic that podcast last year in 2020 Made more money than Facebook did. So there's obviously there's a grassroots movement to of about everybody wanting a voice. Theo only thing the only thing I can see that what is going to bring down people like Alex Jones is exactly What happened is there's gets fragmented off until a lot of different voices. I don't know if that's good or bad. Yeah, I think there's a case to be made that it's scarier. Um people are being funneled into very dark places on the Internet. Andare getting radicalized at a rate that I think we have never seen before. Just because the Internet makes it so easy. Tol put a lot of, you know, very disturbing content from the people and get them very riled up so Yeah, I do think there's a real danger in people fragmenting. I think the funnel gets smaller. In some cases, you know, you take Jones office all the platforms. Do you take them out of their pod Castle upset? It makes it so there are fewer people who are able to get to him. But those people who do seek him out and get their, uh, their the most extreme, loyal people and you know, so you're getting all these people sort of bottlenecked. Into the most extreme places, so you know it's It's a good bad. It's good that fewer people can't get to his content. But it's it's bad that we have groups of people who Feel very strongly in our very radicalized by it were talking to Katie down. Who's run a great piece. That's you. Confined in sf gate dot com. Kitty, I buried the lead, So let me just do this real quick here before. Yeah. You gotta go. Um, the The very first paragraph. We talked about one of the things that that Jones was trying to do was, um You know, he was calling these people provocateurs on from the January 6th attack, And he had one among the boogaloo boy. He had won him on the show and the guy lit him up, right? I'm a 20 year old kid. Let him up. And is that is that the first time or said that singular time did that really hurt him that badly? I think it's the most striking recent example. But it's certainly not the only time you know he's encountering more and more people on his program, who are agitating for very direct action for violence for taking up arms, and Jones doesn't know what to do about that, because he doesn't actually want that to happen. That would hurt the bottom line. He does not want to civil war. On go. He is being challenged by people like this thing. This guy was aligned with the boogaloo boys. Who said, you know you're just talk, talk talk. You've been on the radio for over 20 years just talking and we're out here. We want action, and I think that disconnect is going to get Bigger and it's going to get more apparent as we go forward and as there are more spaces on the Internet that are talking about let's you know, let's go out there and do some violence and Jones's is not going to In line with that necessarily. So I think you know more and more, especially people who are digital natives who grew up on the chance who grew up on forums. You know, they're gonna see Jones is kind of a dying breed. He's this old man and he's not with it anymore, so I think we're going to become a bigger problem for him. What do you think Trump will end up? He's not gonna get Twitter back Parlor is not gonna be back anytime soon. I don't think where do you think he's gonna end up? How will he will? He just have little press conferences and hope the mainstream media carry them. Yeah, That's a great question. I could see him aligning with another brand, um, another news network or trying to start his own. I know A lot of people have speculated about that. I think that's certainly a possibility. Um, but I think in some ways it almost doesn't matter because the movement is is there Regardless, the people who are you know, hard core Maga people, You know, they almost don't need any direction anymore. They've sort of created their own narrative. So I think people may have some wishful thinking that all this mag assess is going to go away and I don't think it well, I don't think they need a leader at the helm to tell him what to do. I think they're very much committed to some gold and they may just move on without him. Some scary stuff. Great writing, Katie. I really appreciate your time. Thank you so much and stay safe, All right? Thanks for having me guys, but I know really well written piece. Katie Dad again. Ah, why don't I just do this one tonight? One of the tweet that out. "So talk with me is 80 88 10, The telephone number 808 oa 10 is $5 reasonable And that's not $5 an hour. That's $5 additional an hour to what they're already making. Who do you think should pay it? Who do you think should bear the brunt? And aren't you a little uncomfortable with a city telling businesses how they have to spend their money? But then compared to the minimum wage requirements, which most of us support and then what about it? What about all the other essential workers? Why are they targeting grocery stores? What about health care workers? Some of the most vulnerable What about teachers? We want our schools to open. What about that? What about police officers? What about firefighters? What about E? M. T s. What about staff members who are not the health care providers at nursing homes like the people who do the cleaning and the maintenance? I mean, there are a lot of people who are vulnerable. Is this? Are they doing this? That they targeting the grocery workers for this additional money Because grocery stores are doing well during the pandemic, so our grocery stores being penalized because they're more profitable during the pandemic, and by the way, shame on those stores who have not shared with their workers. Shame, shame, shame. Because they're the reason you're doing so well if they decided to go home and protect themselves and protect their families rather than taking risks. Every time they walk through your automatic doors, you would not be realizing those that money. So come on. Let's do this. Let's look for the pros and the cons. 80 88 10 is the telephone number 80808 10. All right, let's go to Dan. First he's calling from San Jose, and he works at a grocery store. Dan. Hi. Welcome to K G O. Hi, Pat. What do you think of this idea, Dan? Well, you know what we have been getting at where I work. We have been getting, uh, pay. An additional $3 an hour good where every hour we work, and but it's not in the pay. I think it comes from the government. It comes from some some other funds because we get paid twice a week. We get a regular paycheck. And then there's a check that come eat the regardless of whether you get direct deposit anything. It comes to the office and you have to go in to get it is a three thing about it is getting $3 an hour for every hour. You work during that pay period. Correct. And do you ever have you ever looked at the check itself to see Who is you? It's who's named at the top of the check the name of the company, but it comes it comes in a special Check that I've never seen before. Now, Here's the thing we at when this first started, one of the people of my work died From Cove. It We have had people get Kobe did. The last one was about three weeks ago. You would not believe how badly people act when they come into the store. No masks. Hey, you can't come in. The store manager comes up. You can't tell him that It's not a lot. I mean, people discard their masks in the store on the floor. We have to clean with the we have to sweep the floors. You would not believe the stuff that we were exposed to. Why do you stay? Why do you keep going? Everybody goes to the store to buy food, Everybody, So we see everybody. Why? Why do you still risk your health going toe work there. Cause I've worked there a long time. And it's not real easy to find another job doing something else. The absolute truth. It's during a pandemic. Yeah, Yeah, absolutely. You know, I'm wondering, you know, you know, And this only affects companies with over 500 people, correct. Oh, I'm glad you mentioned that because I did not, and they have to have a certain amount of square footage. I work for a very large company. You don't want to tell us who it is. Our prices have gone way high on food, too. Well, we've all experienced that. But you don't want to tell us the company you work with. Well, it's a serious of companies. I work for a company called Food, Max. Okay, Okay, Um, And you know what? I'm gonna I'm gonna go out on a limb here, Dan because I don't know what I'm talking about, You know, let's just be clear. But I'm thinking if the company's name is its top of your check, I'm thinking that extra money is coming from your company. The fact that it doesn't come in the same kind of check that you received for payroll if you get a pay world check rather than direct deposit. That's because ofttimes payroll checks are processed differently. Payroll checks tend to be processed through. What does it call Kimmy T. T. Is that the place that does the paper check? Yeah, And so a lot of companies use that or a similar company to process their payroll. It's easier for them to do that, and it apparently has become more cost effective to do that. So there are checks that are written out of their checkbooks. They're written differently that come out of the accounting office the and I'm guessing that your company is doing that for you. And you know what? Kudos to them for doing it as far as the people who are risking your lives because they're coming in there, and they are not taking the precautions to protect you and to protect themselves. It really should be a law that says that you could tell them that you're not going to serve them The same way is if somebody walks into your store barefoot, you know, that's a health hazard, and you can tell them we're not gonna provide you any service. You have to leave until you put your shoes on. You know, we see that everywhere signs that said, no shirt, no shoes, no service, the same kind of thing. It should be no mask, no service, and that should be codified into the law so that you have the right to do that. Unfortunately, if somebody refuses, what are you going to do to enforce it? You're not the police. You know somebody who has to do that in the police. They don't have the time the wherewithal or the manpower to be able to take on all these scofflaws who are putting people's health in jeopardy. Did you see the video of the protest in Seattle Pat, where a bunch of people that were against wearing masks to grocery stores showed up with the local trader Joe's on and they threw a fit, and the manager came out and he's like, Look, I really I respect your right to protest, but you're not coming in the store, and all of his employees came behind him and stood there and it was this showdown of people that wanted to get into the store, and they You said What about our right to commerce? And I'm not sure that's the right. What about this? And this is not a lot..

Fumes from Busses going, But whatever it doesn't matter. We love you. All right, So here's the deal way. We're looking at an impeachment that will come to fruition in the Senate on February, the seventh or the trial. Nobody. Then ah, year ago, nor now expects 17 votes to surface even though McConnell seems to have carved himself a back door out on and how will that work? Uh, that's a good question. Joining me right now is publisher of D. C. Report. That organ Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Cay Johnston. John Dean said he believes that Trump has secretly pardon himself. What would be the upside of that? Well, a pardon would have no impact on impeachment. No, of course not specifically in the constitution denied a supplies to impeachment. Um But it would allow him to escape liability for federal crimes He's committed. It won't save him at all, however, from state level prosecutions, and he's looking at New York County, Manhattan, New York state Fulton County would chip incorporates essentially Atlanta over voter fraud. I am potentially other state level cases. Yeah, but, you know, um Obviously, if he pardon himself, it would indicate to federal prosecutors that this guy has something to hide. That said. Right now I guarantee you there's a lot of people listening, and I know especially my wife. That say, what are we going to get this guy on something? When is this s O B going to pay the piper because he's spent his entire life, thumbing his nose at people and screwing them and stabbing them in the back. Is there? Is there a light at the end of this Trump tunnel that it looks like the lady justice? Well, chip, I sure hope so. I mean, Donald was a young man beat four federal grand jury because he got advice from his father, and he got his got advice from notorious Roy Cohn, who he regarded as a second father. On how to play law enforcement. You know, on on occasion, he's ratted out other people to save his own skin and other occasions he's managed to run out the clock on grand Juries. S O, Uh, On the other hand, the Manhattan district attorney is pressing ahead with this case, which is at the core. Just a bottom, just a garden variety. Fraud, case, banking fraud, insurance fraud and tax fraud. That covers years before Trump became president. The state of New York is pursuing. Case that I and some other people I'm not a lawyer, but I taught law for eight for 12 years at Syracuse. In the law school, we think will some other word trial prosecutors I know. Think will turn into a RICO case New York as a state Rico walk. And those are the two most likely hit him. Um do they have the stones in New York? So, David, do they have the stones to take this all the way? Well. Leticia James ran for attorney general and elected office in New York is in California on the specific promise. It was her major platform that she would go after Donald Trump for any crimes he committed. Whether side Vance will pursue this as vigorously as he should. He's the district attorney in New York is unclear because in the past, he Walked away from it looks like a slam dunk case against Ivanka and Jared Kushner. For fraud. Um, but if Donald doesn't get invited, I'm frankly very confident Chip, but he will It is another story about a fundamental problem in American law, which is we have really tough laws for blue collar crimes. You hold up a 7 11. With a water pistol will send you to San Quentin. But you steal from the shareholders of 7 11 with faulty contracts and not paying for goods delivered and stuff, and we'll slap your wrists and let you keep most of the ill gotten money. Yeah. Yeah. I don't want to focus too much on this because it just gets me excited and depressed at the same time, But, um, you know, I look at people like General Flynn. And you know these these horrible people that I thought sworn oath to the Constitution and they were calling from martial law on insurrection. And then I look at people like you know, Cruz and Rubio who have been just, you know, insulted and demeaned by this man, yet they continue to support him. And this party of Americans that I just don't understand. I just I'm not lost. But let me talk about a story that I saw in your sight today if I can, and it's why you pay more taxes in corporations. And the people who own them. Because this is part of we're Biden and this whole new thrust. It seems headed and you know, you would think. That Republicans would embrace. This is well, will they? This idea that we have to get corporations to pay their share in the uber rich to pay their share? I don't think so. I think the only way we get real tax reforms from the bottom up. It might my pieces about the fact that Raising tax rates on corporations and on people who make over $400,000 a year and only on the income over 400,000 year. Is well and good, but that's Mrs Two huge problems that literally redistribute money upward. Take money out of the pocket of everybody listening to the show and put it in the pockets of a number of big corporations and others and I discussed in this article one of the two techniques deferral. Any good tax lawyer will tell you that if you can, a brain Djetou not pay a tax you owe today for 30 years. Will be the storming of the capital by these Cuban on people. And most Americans have no idea what the Q stands for, and There a lot of weird things to other. We talked about this the other day that a lot of the people thought that there was a signal on yesterday's inauguration that Trump was still there because there were 17 flags. And of the 17 flags that Q was a 17 letter of the alphabet. And the whole thing was, you know, just Sad beyond that. Philip Bump writes for the Washington Post National correspondent and is nice enough to join us, Phillip you wrote again about Q and, you know, I guess in the aftermath of this What is it about this group that you find you personally find so I don't know, Unnerve ng and you know important for us to understand I had in 2018. I've gone to a trump rally, and that's spoken too much people who were que non appearance. I mean, I mean, I am unanswered question through there a little story here that I met a young woman who is in her early twenties, and she had with her small kid. Knows maybe wanted to go on. I myself had a young son at the time were saying out there in his parking lot and talking, and it was very warm and humid in the summer is being down there. There wasn't really really many clouds in the sky. And she was just going off about this conspiracy about you know, child predators and all the various components McEwan on and the sun is just beating down on their kid. I'm just thinking, you know, like She sold tested A she? You know, she put a one day in the kitchen drawer Q On it. She's so obsessed with this particular thing, and her kid is obviously like this isn't you Don't hold the baby out in the sunlight. That was no ham on anything. And I just You know the incongruity of that combined combined with her deranged arguments about as I was sort of fascinating, So I've been sort of checking in with her every once in a while since on by haven't been able to get in touch with her. But on Facebook, she continues to promote the same sorts of conspiracies I noticed earlier this month achieved Actually been in Washington at the Capitol. You know, at the time, I don't know. She actually went inside, but chip pictures from outside and I was just being able to watch how she progressed down the same path that so many others did. And she hasn't posted recently. And I'm just I have to wonder. You know what? You see One of these people that went so far down this path and believe this Absolute nonsense to me that you can see in her post it just all these like I've been doing my research and I've been looking into this and, you know, just sees these thieves deranged, like a beautiful mind. Ask sort of, you know, pulling things together, which aren't related in any real sense at all. That just gives a sense of fulfillment in purpose, And then it just falls apart because it's based on nothing And I just You know, I mean, it's easy to be like God here, you ridiculous. What are you doing, but the same time? This is a woman that has a kid. It was like, you know, she's trying to live her life. But she's like to get involved is totally deranged view of what's going on the world and I don't know what happens to people like that. I don't know what happens to her kid from this point on and it's just like The entire thing is incredibly depressing. I can talk to people that disagree with me on fundamentals involving policy with the federal state government. Whatever I don't know, like you what to say to people they would have their kid in the sun like that, whether espousing some insane theories, and I wonder if it's possible that this lack of empathy that's whatever that Trump seems to have, whether it's a sociopath, E or what? I wonder if it's that might be a unifying thing for all these people. So another one of the people I spoke with their made a really fascinating.

"Com. Join the conversation at 80 88 10 Now Chip Franklin on kgo a 10. Way do appreciate you being here. Under these incredible circumstances. We're gonna take a step back from what happened on the sixth of January. And, of course, Trump's impeachment and the next seven or eight days to talk about covert and later on the five o'clock Dr Dina Grace and will join us and we'll talk. About her experience. Well, we haven't spoken in a while about the latest with vaccines. The latest with some of the new variants and joining right now is Katherine Ho. She covers health care and medical technology. For the business desk at the San Francisco Chronicle on this breaking story that California is now open up covert 19 vaccinations for those 65 older Katherine. So that means one of two things happen, that there was a really a crisis. People older or a a political push where we got a lot more vaccines, and we can afford to do this. Which one was it? Or was it a little both? Well, it's a little bit of both, Um, you know, I think there's a lot of frustration with the speed of this rollout. Um and you know, I've heard from Ah lot of seniors who are just kind of Confused about how this is all working. You know, the state initially was going to make vaccines available to people. 75 up is kind of the next group. So what it did this week was kind of move that bar. Changed that bar to expand it to 65 up. Um, what was the impetus behind? This was there. I mean, I'm not a huge I mean, I voted for the guy, but I'm not a big fan of the way Newsome has handled this and I don't know if it's totally out of his hands. But the communication lines have been slow and a little muddy. Um, why? Why hasn't this worked? Well, I mean, it's anything but warp. And is it Can we look at the federal government who keeps blaming the states? Why don't we have more vaccines? Why don't we have more distribution centers? And and you know, why don't we just start with the people who need it the most and then quickly go through them. I mean, I would imagine the people that need it the most of the smallest group right because they're older. Right. Um, I think your your first point. What is the impetus? I think there's a lot of pressure on the governor right now. To speed this up on guy think that there was some criticism that you know, making it available to the highest priority group, which was health care workers, initially, in kind of keeping it to that group on Lee. Um, was perhaps a little bit too slow. Um, And I think I think that the other questions you're asking about. Why? Why we aren't getting more doses. Why? Why? It's not going faster into people's arms. It's a great question. I think there's a lot of reasons, I think, um, the first one is we don't have enough consistent supply coming from the federal government. I think that's true, probably of all states. On band all counties. The second thing is, you know, we the system that we have to deliver. Health care is very fragmented, So I think there's a lot of confusion and kind of inconsistency in the The way people are getting back to the way people are getting information about where to get vaccines, little bit all over the place. Well, I think that you know, Obviously, there are three and now gone and soon to be seven or eight different types of vaccines. There's conditions of refrigeration. Um, you know, there's not just vaccines. It's needles. It's vials. It's people toe. Give them On Dr scene, and we've heard great stories about that. I think the thing that just frustrating for people is not so much the vaccines, but it's the lack of communication. I mean, it may not be anybody's fault, but people just you know, they don't like being left in the dark and older people, especially They've seen a lot of dark. Their whole lives right? They know they can smell it when it's coming. Never down the road, so they want to know. Just tell us. Why don't you have more? And when will we get it? Um, you know what? And what can the federal government do to speed this up? I'm not going to make this political on. I'm hopeful that this new administration has a better hold it. This president doesn't seem like the vice president. I think he's still head of the coronavirus task Force if I'm not mistaken. They've been a little busy dealing with trying to overturn an election for the last, you know, 2.5 months, So I guess you know the best thing we can hope for. We have Biden giving a speech in about 10 minutes and one of the things he's going to say is we're gonna We're gonna hit this thing like Manhattan Project And if that's true, you know, I think a lot of people are saying good because No, it's all of us have friends or family. That's over 65 in a most of us do, I guess I should say and we're concerned and we want them to get vaccinated as soon as possible. And we course we need health care workers and doctors and all them to be vaccinated because we've seen the numbers. Now you know where the numbers now 4400 day. Something crazy like that. It's it's It's definitely a It's we are. I feel like sis. If it's in a way, though, right? I mean, we could get in the top of this hill and then boom. It falls right back down again. Um, I agree. I think there's um There's really a lack of very clear communication right now. And I think that's frustrating because You know, A lot of people are calling their primary care doctors asking them when I can. When can I get a vaccine? Ah, lot of primary care. Doctors don't know They haven't been given very clear instruction or timeline from Counties or states. So there's a little bit of you know. OK, I've asked you this this person they don't know. Let me go Ask this other person. They're not sure. Let me go ask someone else and don't get an answer. I think there is Lot of that going on right now, you know, and I hope in the next You know very soon there's gonna be a kind of a clear, clearer messaging on but maybe more uniformed messaging about how people should go about this. Do they return your calls? Are people willing to talk or is there kind of a paranoid and there that I know existed back in the early fall? About not, you know, I mean, the kind of paranoid that that I think that Berks and Fauci both kind of dealt with some political aspects of it. Is that all gone now is it Is everybody on the same page. Well, you know, I think at the federal level I think the incoming administration I think there is hope that That it would be a little bit more organized. It'll be faster and the messaging coming from the top health officials. Will be more co you says on Duclair. Yeah, we can hope. Well, you stay Well, Catherine. Thank you. So much for the reporting is great piece and it's I think it's good to hear how soon last thing is. How soon can these people over 65 start expecting to get these vaccinations? Um, well, in some places they're being offered. Now, um, e think maybe in the next couple weeks it will start being more. More widespread. They should just call their health care provider and just see is that the deal? Yeah, I would call your health care provider and check. You know, whichever counting you live in the local health departments are putting out a lot of pretty detailed information about that, Including some online sign up, you know, pregnant systems..
