Fresh update on "8.3%" discussed on The Hair Radio Show with Kerry Hines

"And that's what I want to kind of talk a little bit about to Nicole Marie. You know, folks don't realize that we have chatted with just about everybody in hair, beauty, and entertainment. You guys heard, right? You heard Kim Berry in the first hour. Kim's from California. I love her. Me too. She's one of the long, well, she worked with Prince for like 30 years. Just an incredible lady. So we shout her out. I'm going into the vault. This week, in honor of our over 900th broadcast, we are going to be celebrating by listening back to some of the great folks who have been on our show. You know, like I said, we've got amazing folks. It gets no bigger than Beyonce. So to speak with her dad right now on our show, you'll hear that this week. You're also going to hear my interview with the queen of Twitter, of course. Legendary Miss Beyond Ward. Second only to Aretha Franklin with hit records. Also, also a top female artist and all that kind of stuff. But I got everybody. We have everybody from Tony Terry to Allison Williams. Wow. The Gorilla Glue doctor who saved the young lady. He's been on our show a couple of times. He's out in Beverly Hills. So many people have been through. So many. I remember Michelle Obama's hairstylist. Johnny Wright was on our show. Just a lot of folks. A lot of folks. One of my favorites recently, which of course everybody knows. Camille Friend. I talk about her all the time because she's one of my favorites. Who did the Little Mermaid. Nominated for Academy Award and all that kind of stuff. So lots and lots of folks who have been through our work. And continue. We've been around. You haven't made it until you've made it to Hair Radio. Okay. So now we've got some right. I just love it. Music on our playlist today. We opened up with a real interesting song. I've never heard this before. Called Giant. By this wonderful DJ. Big international guy Calvin Harris. I've heard of him in the past. He makes a lot of those high. We used to call them high energy songs back in the day. Right. I love it. Right. So this song he's on with a gentleman named Rag and Bone Man. So that's what you heard earlier. We've got a lot of classic but more traditional songs as well. Everybody from Stevie Wonder to Chaka Khan's latest as well. And all kinds of stuff. Including a throwback. Real old throwback. I had to get on some Hall & Oates. They've been going through so much. We're kind of talking about that too. Yeah, me too. But they're warring with each other. And I don't quite understand what's happening. Right. But those fans. So we're going to talk about all that. We're going to be talking about Tiffany Haddish this week. She's been arrested again. Of course she's out. There's nothing driving again. We want everybody to win. So we're going to get into all that kind of stuff. But yeah. But also I have some news from the International Beauty Show. From IBS as well. One of the largest hair. Actually the longest of those. Kind of big international beauty shows. They're at the Jessup Javits Center in New York City. It's huge. So of course I'll be there in March. It's March 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Again in New York City. We're talking about 2024. Is the next event. So yeah, I'll be there. That's what enjoyed it last year. We were there together last year. It's 2020. Which was actually earlier in 2023. It was March of February. Yeah, it was early this year. We had a great time. I loved it. I really did. So we got some pictures done. Well I hope you come back. I hope you get a chance to come back. I might be there. You never know. So March. So we got some time to get you out here and up here. And all that wonderful good stuff. And I've got some things I'm working on with IBS. You know we talk to the top, top folks. Oh yeah. Yeah, we have the director. She's always with us. So hopefully we'll get a new interview for this year. From her and so much more. And all of that. So really good stuff. Let me see. Well we've got the magazine on the way. And there's been a lot going on. Nicole Marie. There's always something. So all this week. We'll be sharing with you guys. Just a lot of wonderful good stuff. So first Nicole Marie. Stay tuned. We have to talk about. Well one of my favorite things to talk about. On this show. Is that each day we inspire. We offer some form of. What do we call it. Inspiration. Inspiration. Yeah so we've come up with this incredible item that you share each day. Called Hope of the Day. So here take a listen. And we'll take it from there. Well first of all. Hope is important to each and every one of us because it gives our lives meaning. It's that belief that our future can be better than our past. So no matter what we may have been through. Going through. Going to go through. There's always hope. Just that positive expectation that change can and will occur in all of our lives. So every day. I share inspiration away from a book by Patrick Lindsay. And it's called High Hope. All right. Always hope. Nicole Marie take it away. Thank you Carrie. The hope of the day for this Tuesday is recreate your strength. Recall your most positive moments and thoughts. Examine how you reach them. Relive the feelings. Remember them. See how you can replicate the conditions and scale the height again. Back to you Carrie. Oh I love that. Recreate your strength. Hold on. Well that is interesting. So I kind of like that. I do. Because that to me also says that you have to kind of stick to what is what you're doing. What's the best of what you're doing. What works for you. Exactly. But what happens when you have a lot of strength? We got all that strength. You know I think about that sometimes because we do so much. But recreate your strength. So continue to push forward with what works for you. Of course. What about yourself Nicole Marie? Do you recreate your strength? I actually do. I always think back like he said and recall those positive moments. I love to journal. So I write a lot of things down. You know both successes and you know those things that haven't worked so well. So I go back and revisit those things. So I totally agree with what he's saying. Most definitely. Well those things that haven't worked so well that's how you learn. That's a beautiful moment. Learning opportunities. Exactly. And I always say they just haven't worked so well yet. Exactly. We revisit those. So you get it right. Well that's what I want to check in with Michael Hopkins again. He's the host of his own program coming up in about an hour. Right here you don't have to change the channel or anything like that. That comes from our community aspect of the broadcast. We're talking about the Vet Talk radio show which airs 8.30 Eastern 7.30 Central right here on Tuesday morning. So you'll hear it today. But I want to ask Michael about that if he's recreating his strength and what does that mean to him. Let's see if we can get Michael down in beautiful spots in Virginia. Michael Hopkins you're on with Nicole Marie and Carrie Hines. Very much so. Very much so. Oh yes that is excellent. That is an excellent thing to do. That recreation. And what happens it's those moments. You've had those moments when you're at the top of your game and when you recreate that it just propels you forward. Sometimes it takes you to greater heights. And that's what I love about doing that. I love doing that because you just never know. You just never know. Sometimes you can go to something new and you just don't know. That's what I love about it. Like Nicole Marie said and just like you said Carrie Hines it doesn't really matter if something didn't kind of work out the way you wanted it to work out. That's what's called a learning experience. And it helps you grow. You have to grow. Back over to you Carrie. I agree. Well you know I think you're absolutely right. The other thing about that Michael and Nicole Marie is that when we think things don't work out they're actually working for the greater good. But sometimes it's often difficult to see that. But you gotta remind yourself if that's not for you it's just maybe not for you or at that time it's not for you but there's something else at play that may have a greater impact in your life. So you kind of have to pull back a little bit. It's hard to do sometimes because you know in our little minds we're like upset it didn't so we think it didn't work out the way we planned. Exactly. But boy oh boy you come back and revisit that all the way. If it had that other thing worked out you wouldn't have been where you are. Exactly. So very much you know just keep that open. It all works out and at the end of the day. So I'm super super excited. So listen our playlist I don't know if you heard but got some great great songs on the way. You know every song so some some of these we go back a little bit but we just love it because I don't get a chance to hear these songs except on the Hair Radio Morning show. So we're going to take a little bit of a music break of course and when we come back Michael Big Vet Talk Radio Talk Talk Radio and then coming up in our spotlight hour about eight o'clock or so we're going to have some a little preview of some of the interviews that we did at the Wonderful Natural Hair Fest. So we'll talk a little we'll have all that for you coming up. And we're going to also talk about what's coming in the next few days. So it's a lot to get to we still have a lot going on this morning but again a quick music break and we will be back. Do not go anywhere. Great job Nicole, Marie, Michael. Lots more to go. All right here we go. OK. Everyone's feeling pretty It's hot as you like Though the world's full of problems They couldn't touch us even if they tried From the park I hear rhythm Marley's heart's coming tonight there will be a party on the corner at the end of the park Didn't know you would be coming until the break go down Ain't nobody ever told you baby you would be coming until the break go down Would be coming and coming and coming Come on They won't But our answer today Is to let all our worries Like a breeze through our fingers slip away Please come to Zimbabwe First world pride on the one Now's the time for celebration Cause we all need to be good Didn't know you would be coming until the break go down Ain't nobody ever told you baby you would be coming until the break go down Ain't nobody ever told you baby you would be coming until the break go down I know nobody knows you, but you would be coming until the break go down But we can and can and can and can't no more You and me, am I happy? Well, let's back the curve back I can say that I'm happy Cause we all just made a pact We were free to get together Join and still come and die When you're moving into privacy Your destination is the brightest star You didn't know that you Would be coming until the break of dawn Letting nobody ever tell you the truth Would be coming until the break of dawn Oh, you Would be coming until the break of dawn Don't you stop the music, don't stop Don't you stop the music, don't stop Don't you stop the music, don't stop Oh, you Would be coming until the break of dawn Oh, you Hello everybody, I'm Valerie from Validate Your Beauty.

"All right. We are live. It is mid-show. It's Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023. I'm Kerry Hines. It's great to have you guys with us. Got a lot to get into on this broadcast. We're about the midway point in the second hour. We're going to be talking first. Let me bring to the line, okay, on this Tuesday morning, let me bring to the line the one and only queen of the mornings out of Mississippi. We're talking about Water Valley, Mississippi. My very special cohost, of course, Nicole Marie. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Nicole Marie, GM, oh, boy, it is a Tuesday morning, let me tell you. Yes, it is. And let me just kind of welcome you. We got a lot to get into, a lot of live host chats. There are a lot of folks who are on with us for the very first time today. So I want to kind of talk a little bit about what we do here at the broadcast. Oh, yes. Welcome, welcome. If there are any questions that you guys out there are listening, you can press one and we'll get you on. You can ask your question right live on the air if you'd like. But first, Nicole Marie, it's Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023. It's our broadcast show number 924, 924, that means that we've done 924. We ought to make it clear. We've got 923 other broadcasts of the hit radio morning show, if you guys know. Each broadcast is three hours. So we're going to be talking and educating and informing along the way. Just, you know, Tuesday is our first day back of the week. We broadcast live Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 6 to 9, right, a.m. Eastern. I'm in Brooklyn, New York, which is the, you know, Eastern time zone. And you, Nicole Marie, are in the Central time zone in Water Valley, Mississippi. So we talk to folks, not just in America, but everywhere. Right. Everywhere. Yeah. We have a wonderful audience that we'll get more into. But first of all, so how are you? Just, you know, we don't get a chance to talk a whole lot during the first hour of the show. I know. Right. So we come in with our live talk mid-show. So a lot of folks tune in at 6 o'clock, as soon as we're on the air, they tune right into the show, and then others wait and tune in at the live chat at 7 or in our spotlight hour at 8. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you. So how are you doing? And what's going on down in Water Valley? I am wonderful, wonderful on this very chilly morning, Carrie. Oh, this weather. It's all chilly up here. I'm doing great. Yeah. Yeah. Good to hear. I'm complaining. How are you this morning? I'm doing great. We've got to talk a little bit. It was Thanksgiving weekend, if you will, and folks were selling all over the country. We just had such a great time. I want to talk a little bit about the event coming up around 8 o'clock this morning. I can't wait to hear that. Yeah. We've got a few interviews. It was the Natural Hairfest in Brooklyn, New York. I had a chance to go out, and it was Mark David Carter's event. And he invited me to come over and just kind of, I don't know, I guess open up the show. It was a very, very exciting group of individuals. So we have quite a bit. We're going to be celebrating, really, a whole lot. We've got a lot to talk about with Natural Hairfest. So the best time, of course, we're going to be playing some of the clips today and tomorrow. We have a whole hour, a spotlight hour, starting at 8 a.m. Eastern, 7 o'clock for you in Central in the morning. So that's live. So join us. We've got to see if we can get Mark on and some other folks. But I had a great time. I wish you were here. I know. I wish I was there also, but I can't wait to hear all about it. Yeah. Well, you're going to get some of the clips coming up this morning, maybe about 7.45 or so. So stay with us. And in the next half hour or so, you'll get some of the clips from yesterday's show. But we have a whole bunch to share. I'll be telling you all about it. So that's coming up a little later and then certainly into tomorrow. Now I want to talk to you about what, oh, yeah, oh, it was fabulous. And let me just again shout out Mark David Carter for pulling together such an incredible event that I enjoyed. And we'll talk a little bit more, like I said, about that. I'm thinking that I will share this with you guys. You know what? Let me hold on to this. It's a big, big announcement, and I want Mark to hear this. So we'll save that for Wednesday morning in our third hour. Our third hour again is 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern. But we're on from 6 in the morning. So tune in when you wake up. We're here. We're always, we're here. We are. Okay. Yes. And, you know, so sometimes you tune in, you'll hear a little bit of music. Sometimes you, you know, we have a whole hodgepodge. But what the hair radio is all about is hair, beauty, and community. And community. So you might tune in and hear us talking about veterans. Speaking of which, Michael Hopkins is the host of the Vet Talk Radio Show. Michael will be joining us. He's also one of my co-hosts and Nicole Marie's co-host in the morning. He joins us right here on the show. So Michael's out of wonderful Virginia, down in wonderful, what is, hold on, beautiful spots. Yeah. Yeah, but it starts with beautiful. So if I don't say beautiful, that's the problem. Beautiful spots in Virginia. So Michael will be joining us in just a bit. He's going to talk about what's coming up on his portion of the show, which is at 8.30 this morning. He's doing the Vet Talk Radio. And we'll get into all of that talk. But first, Nicole Marie, we've still got more to share with you this morning. So we've got to talk what happened, what was, yeah, anything over the Thanksgiving weekend you want to share. And I've got a few things to tell you about. Well, this weekend was definitely spent with family. I cooked for Thanksgiving and we just stayed home and just enjoyed each other. It was a, we had a wonderful time. Oh, that is so nice. Well, shout out to Nicole's wonderful family. Mr. Luther, of course, your husband. Just great. The entire family of wonderful folks. And we support you. Oh, thank you, Carrie. What did you do, Carrie? Yes, I'm chomping at the bit. I had an opportunity to kind of, you know, and I want to talk about this. I am someone who, you know, my background being in the airlines and all that, traveling all over the world, I was away quite often on Thanksgiving. So I never really, I guess, you know, it doesn't bother me to be single or to be, you know, I have my own traditions that I love. So I cook like you and make a nice meal. Usually I make a real big meal. All for me. And, but this year I scaled back just a little bit and I still had leftovers. I just finished them off yesterday. Okay. But I, yeah, but I love, and that scaling is back. So that tells you how much I really cook as well. But you know, this Thursday, this past Thursday, Thanksgiving, I actually woke up early on Thanksgiving morning and at six o'clock put on a pop-up broadcast of the Hair Radio Morning show all by myself for three hours. I chatted with both. I said, well, I'm here by myself. I said, but I don't have to be. We've got listeners all over the world. Some of whom would probably appreciate a little morning live conversation to share with, you know, what we're all kind of dealing and coping with. So it's out there on the internet. I'll re-share it again after today's, this broadcast that wraps at 9 AM Eastern. I'll share this one and the one from Thanksgiving day. So that way you can listen. It's great.

WeWork's bankruptcy filing is rattling the market for office space. These property owners, it's the last thing they needed. Ruth Kolpaver is CEO of Wharton Property Advisors. She says WeWork's filing allows it to walk away from some leases and renegotiate others downward. These properties are going to be reprised and some of them won't make it. The economics just won't make sense. The leases, where a new tenant is willing to lease the space, won't cover the building's operating expenses and real estate taxes. Kolpaver also says this could mean the end of the road, especially for some older, more low -tech buildings. WeWork often rented for the co -working spaces it then leased out to others. They'll go back to the bank and who knows what will happen to them. I mean, some of these buildings could really, could be demolished and they'll start from scratch. Credit card balances rose yet again in the third quarter, up $48 billion, and they are now at $1 .08 trillion. Janelle Marté wrote the story for Bloomberg News. The report also found that there was a rise in the share of people who are becoming newly delinquent on their credit card payments. The data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is raising concerns about whether a consumer spending boom can continue to power blockbuster economic growth. So it's a sign that people are falling further behind, starting to struggle a little bit more with their credit card payments and with other debt payments. Credit card balances are now $154 billion higher than they were a year ago. The jump in credit card balances marks the eighth straight quarter of year over year increases. Honda is trying to crack the U .S. electric vehicle market with a new model and an old strategy. If you can't beat them, join them. Honda is preparing to debut the electric prologue SUV early next year, but Bloomberg reporter Chester Dawson says its Honda identity is mostly skin deep. Let's get a look at how things are going in the world of small cap stocks. We do that with Bloomberg stocks Editor Dave Wilson Day what You got? Well, you're seeing losses and smaller companies as you are in larger ones. The Russell 2000 index down 3/10 percent, while the S and P. 500 is lower by 2/10. The drug development raised $45 million in a stock sale after winning US approval for a nasal spray to treat migraines. Mm. Nasal spray to treat migraines. That sounds great, Dave. Thanks very much. Dave Wilson there with our speaking of things. That sound great with our small caps, report. Speaking of things that sound Well, maybe not so great. Yeah, this one little bit disturbing. Leslie Patent joins us right now from Bloomberg News. Leslie, you got a story out about KFC and full disclosure. I love fried chicken, betting that Americans want fried chicken made from plants. I don't know if that's a good bet, is it? Well, it's very trendy right now to be talking about plant based So I think a lot of a lot of that is driving it. But at the same time, I mean, aren't we talking about different people, The people that trend towards plant based and the people that trend towards KFC aren't those two very different groups of people. Well, KFC doesn't think so. They think there's at least some overlapping. They're you know, they're not saying it's never going to take over for fried chicken, not even going to be the majority of the market, but they want to have something there. To give customers that option is this faux meat thing and faux chicken Now, I guess. Is this it a demographic thing, Leslie? Is it more kind of the younger folks trending this way? Yeah, That's what that's what camp. He has told me that it's the younger crowd who feels a little bit better. Maybe eating this way. So they're looking to capture that younger crowd who will be coming of age and have more spending power in the future. Obviously. So I think that's what's driving. A lot of it also. So, um, What are we talking about? Like a chicken sandwich made with plant meet. Are they going to try and actually replicate, you know? Real fried chicken breasts is going to be the same shape, but just a different substance. Well, the gold standard I'm told is like a chicken like a whole muscle piece of chicken. So not like A chicken nugget, this all shaped and kind of like mashed together. That's not what they want to do. They want to do something that whole muscle that kind of like tears and pulls apart like a chicken tender from kind of like Of fans here, you know, like like a bar restaurant type place, maybe maybe even a sit down place, So that's what they're really trying to replicate with this. They haven't really brought anything out to the masses yet. They've done some tests, but we're kind of just waiting to see if they're going to have something. At a national scale or not. Would they be the first in the chicken category? Or is Chick fil a beating them to the punch, so to speak? Well, they would be the first one to do what I think on a national basis. Yes. It's interesting, and I mean, we've seen this with other fast food. Non chicken fast food restaurants are I mean, I see I know. At least Burger King has got a fake meat burger, and I'm assuming that all the other ones do too. Yeah, That's right, you know? So so there are some tests right now, it seems like especially in the U. S market. There are a lot of companies kind of dipping their toes and this feeling it out, seeing what sells what doesn't sell, and I think a lot of it is really geographic specific. So we're going to see more tests, whether this stuff really sticks or not. I think it kind of remains to be seen right? So I guess the issue is you know, when we hear from beyond me, they say a big part of their customer base is people that are, in fact meat eaters. They just want some Diversification, if you will, is that similar to what KFC thinks might happen with the chicken market. Yeah, I think that's right. So, so thinking about it, you know, it's the people who are eating plant based Are people who are also eating meat. It's not necessarily a vegan or vegetarian. So with somebody who wants to do like a meatless Monday or something like that, so there could be some overlap there, but again at the same time. I think it remains to be seen. How much How much this stuff. Can really make up in sales, you know, is it? Is it going to be 2% of sales for KFC? Is there going to be 10%? I don't know. And I think they don't really know either right now. Lizzie. Thanks so much for joining us. Leslie Patent there who wrote the story on KFC betting Americans want fried chicken based on well, It's not chicken. It's uh, I guess a fried chicken shaped thing based on plants have you seen by the way there's a 1992? Non narrative documentary film, meaning it's kind of an art film. They just have shots of. I'm going to say no. Before you tell me this title, but it's called Baraka B A R A K A. Barack Ah. It's an amazing movie, and it was like the kind of thing that we would all you know, I guess late night parties, we would put it on in high school and college. And, but it's got segments about crowded cities and segments about a cigarette factory. Remember segments about A chicken plant where they just had these hundreds of thousands of chickens on a conveyor belt, you know, like getting their beak spurned off and separated into different piles and You know, I can safely say I haven't seen that. It made me not want to eat fried chicken anymore, But I recommend watching the film. I bet you Nathan Hager has seen it. Let's get over to him right now. In Washington, D C with your world National News, Nathan suddenly lunches sounding a lot less appealing, and we're only about an hour away. Thanks, Matt. The Pentagon is going to commemorate the 9 11 attack tomorrow. In a ceremony President Biden plans to attend. But this morning, other Cabinet departments are holding their own observances.
