"AP sports, I'm Bruce Morton. Iowa sent shockwaves through the women's college basketball world. It held off previously unbeaten defending champs, South Carolina, 77, 73. AP national player of the year Caitlin Clark led the way for the hawkeyes with a semifinal record 41 points and said this game wasn't just a win. It was a showcase for her sport. I'm sure so many people wish this was a series of 7 games. That would be really, really fun. And I think we continued the series. It might go one way or the other every single time. The game Crocs aliyah Boston said this wasn't the way they wanted to finish, but they still had a season to remember. Just winning. 36 games. I feel like that's unbelievable. Sunday, the hawks will meet LSU, which took over in the fourth quarter and a 79 72 win over Virginia tech. Alexis Morris was game high with 27 points for a Bayou Bengal team that made it to the championship game for the first time in program history. Maybe the standing champions at the end maybe I can just let go and just be like, ha. Pro basketball, the Celtics continued their push for the top seat in the east by besting shorthanded Utah one 22 one 14. Jason Tatum came through with a game high 39 points. So Lara put Miami ahead in the second inning in Chisholm provided insurance in the 8th. Joe Rogan Drops Major J6 Truth Bomb and Julie Kelly Reacts
"This tape last hour, but I find this to be unbelievably persuasive and Julie, I think you'll enjoy hearing it. Cut 70 9 is Joe Rogan and Michael malice reacting in real time. It's as if you had a private hidden camera of how they react to the footage that is now being made public to people that are not right wing ideologues by any measure. Play cut 79, please. Right, you're not supposed to go into the capitol building. Grant. I thought you were not like that. Yeah, I don't like that idea. Not like that. But when you see the people taking them around, essentially on a tour. That's not what I thought it was. Not even defending them. It's just forget about it. Let's look at what actually happened. We didn't know that happened. Right. We had a version of it was just chaos and the cops ran away. And cops were murdered. I would have never imagined that this. I've shocked to see that. That's so wild. And so I think people are just starting to recognize that it's not what you thought it was. So Julie, that clip is very powerful. What is your reaction? To not just that clip, but this idea that finally the American people can get educated and informed of what happened on January 6th. And while you're at it, tell us about potential Brady violations as well. So Charlie, that's very similar to the response that I got from a lot of people. Even people who have been sort of following January 6th that they were expecting some bombshells, but not to the level that what Tucker presented on Monday and Tuesday. When you see what happened with Jacob chansley, completely railroaded by his Justice Department, get this, Charlie. I really looked up his documents today. Jacob chansley, as we now see walking peacefully around building accompanied by numerous capital police officers, that was January 6th on January 11th, 5 days later, a grand jury in Washington D.C. handed down several crimes against Jacob chandley 5 days later. It's like this was preset ready to go this DoJ D.C. U.S. attorney's office had all of the charges collected that they were going to use against these people. I mean, that is pretty stunning, something

The One Way Ratchet With the CCP
"All right, mister secretary, one of the things you put in here that I did not anticipate seeing. And I don't know that many people will pick up on it on page one 79. China is not part of the intermediate range nuclear forces agreement. We know that Russia violates it. China is not a party to it. You write quote, we will one day need capabilities of our own installed, meaning intermediate range nuclear missiles within reach of the Chinese periphery. That's a big deal. Do you expect pushback on that? Goodness. From who, here, from D.C. establishment. The blob. From the blob, almost certainly. The central thesis that I talk about with the Chinese Communist Party is it's been a one way ratchet. They do something we bow down. They move, we turn the other cheek. They're aggressive. We tell them please don't do that again. And they just keep rolling. So the central thesis is this concept of being reciprocal. Just we should behave the way they do. They now are capable of using their boats intermediate range and long-range missiles to strike things that matter an awful lot to the United States of America. And these intermediate range missiles are important for lots of reasons. We don't have time to speak to it. The book talks about it a little bit. But yes, I'm confident that we will find nations that want to host our intermediate range facilities and that we will do so. This will be the way that we gain the deterrence, the very deterrence that Ronald Reagan came to understand in Europe in the last century. We will have to execute to make sure to protect America from the threat of the Chinese Communist Party in this century.

"Type of i mean it is a campaign it is a race. Does it affect the way. State government works after september after mid-september when this election goes down does does new some have less clout in sacramento than he did prior to this or or more. I would think war because anytime you win an election. You're doing better. you know. And especially because he's going to run again in two thousand twenty two he wins. This may be an easy wins this by good margin. Maybe there's nobody running against him of any note. Maybe this is enough to win. Twenty twenty two right here right now. So there's a risk a high risk reward for newsom. He could be kicked out but he could also just be a democratic hero. Take overtake reelection. Maybe help out down ballot. Republicans you know. Even though donald trump got twenty nine lost by twenty nine percent the republicans actually did well in california in two thousand twenty two twenty twenty. They won four congressional seats first time. They'd knocked out an incumbent since nineteen ninety so it was a good woman could does now be in jeopardy because they can't get anyone good on the top of the ticket. Any surprises that you might. What's what's the what's the stripper or the we'll call her mom who's running angelina any chance. She might pull out an upset and be the next governor california who knows right. That's that would be a good. That would certainly be interesting. There is one democrat the. He's not necessarily a democrat of note. But he's a youtube personality. Who's a democrat so kevin path. He he would be the one who would pull it out. Maybe things but systems situations like this where we're the most not. I can't say that angeline is the most notable of the candidates on that side but on the replacement ballot. We've talked about four people today. I brought her up. we brought. We were discussing larry elder. Who is a radio talk show host. We're discussing kevin falconer. Who's who actually was the former governor of mayor san diego and we've discussed a youtube celebrity three of the four who get the most press or get the most attention are i mean for lack of a better word. They're not they're not professional public servants. Let's leave it at that. Does that not diminish this process for californians for anyone who's looking at it from outside the state. I see a election that is up or down on the governor and then it's a free for all circus to see who gets to run california. Does that not necessarily take the credibility and legitimacy away from something as important as this recall. Election is You you could make that argument. I certainly could see that though we've had other people who have not been professional politicians who've won in recent years and other races but i also at some some people would argue that some of them have made certain certain parts of government laughing stock when they did. But but you also have the jesse ventura of the world and the arnold schwarzenegger's of the world who whether you agree with them politically or not handled their jobs with professionalism in ways that i don't i don't imagine angeline would handle the governor's mansion of california where she to win the fact that you even said a few minutes ago that someone could potentially be elected governor of california in two weeks with only three percent of the popular vote. How is that democratic will. It's the the processes. Democratic elections are always like that in america where we have this first-past-the-post-system whoever comes out on top and the most votes that's part of the reason people have liked things like instant runoff. It's where new york recently had done and actually in california. There's a number of cities that have that where you can't win but there's also no Elongated runoff you. Just go one two three four five now. Would that work with a forty six percent valid. I don't know so it's really a part of this political process. That new could always have. That could always have somebody win with percent of the vote. It's just we don't seem to have that these. I mean you're being. You're being very optimal i dunno. Optimistic is the word. But you're certainly being very positive about the recall process in california. I sit here. And i think okay so the rules are all you have to do is get twelve percent of the entire electorate to sign a petition calling for a recall. What's to stop me in or someone like me in california. Come election day. Twenty twenty two from standing at the ballot day at the polling station with a petition. That says did you vote for gavin newsom for reelection or did you vote for the republican. Oh i voted for the republican here. Will you sign this petition. To recall gavin newsom right. now. I mean doesn't doesn't this couldn't this lead to simply every two years. We have a recall against whoever the the elected governor is. They just know that it's becoming pretty. It's going to be pretty easy. Now that it's talked about more all we gotta do is get twelve percent of californians twelve percent of whatever other state or whatever. Let's just have the sign up sheet at the ballot box. Go in vote for donald trump if he wins great if he doesn't you've already thought this petition and we'll just put a recall election up and we'll do over how is a recall election. Not simply a do over well first of all. You couldn't do that because they're not governor so he couldn't well get my new saying you wouldn't be able to get on that election. He'd have to first be governor this now he is but if he the recall would only be for that time period. Between an actually. It's not allowed for the last six months but it would not. It would only be for the time period that he's still governor. You can't recall somebody until after but you couldn't collect signatures because he's not an office because it's not even okay. You foil my plans. Social right by your argument is pretty easy. I mean especially in this internet connected age. Twelve percent is nothing is it will exactly. It is much easier because of technology. I think you've hit on the hit. The nail on the head. Exactly right the technology has made recalls much easier. however it's still very hard one point five million. I think you need about eight hundred something bill. Eight hundred something thousand to get on the ballot for president in all fifty states. So this double that sits really. It's if not. I'll change you wouldn't raise that percentage at all. Yeah i would. I would change the percentage. There's some things that i would change. I think that's certainly something few the raise. The percentage it into ten percent of registered. Voters is what they do for. La mayor san francisco mayor. And that's higher than twelve percents of turnout. But you could make a twenty percent. That's that's certainly reasonable has the highest threshold dino which some have well new jersey as twenty five percent of registered voters. That's very hard louisiana. Used to have thirty three and a third percent of registered voters but they recently cut it down And so those states don't really have as many recalls other states. Have something that you know. Here's what you would think of what i call malfeasance standard or other people call the judicial recall standard. But that's kind of confusing because you think it's a recall of judge where you have to hit a statutorily delineated reason for the recall. They had to commit impeachment. Correct right a people's version of impeachment. So that is possible but it's generally not. It's very hard to get those on the ballot because it's very hard to prove that crime so those don't happen as much i'm reading. I'm reading the. Kansas has a forty percent threshold. Kansas but kansas kansas is a malfeasance standard state. Also i believe kansas. It's forty percent of turnout. Were those cats for the office cried so new jersey is registered voters so desire. Yeah but you know what if someone is someone for someone to be recalled for someone who has been duly elected to be recalled. I feel like you really should have to hit a higher threshold. I mean for the same reason that we expect. Sixty seven members of the senate to vote to remove the president from office. It recalls shouldn't be merely partisans should they aren't these states that have thresholds that are high enough to make it difficult to attain..

"I think in at least in my generation in the modern generation of cycling to see kind of build up to the torn. You've talked about on the podcast before. But i think the the sport really thrive when you see the best writers racing the best writers multiple events and it does kind of set the stage of you know who is who is writing. Well i mean. of course you know. They're all going to be at the tour and you know but winning winning the dolphin on its own is still a huge a huge feet and i think that it is cool to see you know the best writers going up against each other and there's been writers who won the dolphin never won the tour but that is a that is a huge sold to win to win that race. I think outside of the grand tours. I would say it's one of the most prestigious week long stages in my opinion i guess. Maybe that's just because i have a bias towards towards france like francois having lived there but i would i guess. Perry niessen dolphins. We're always kind of the the to marquee stages for myself outside of the three grand tours. I mean off the right. I mean it's a slightly worrying presses in a in a way got jars reasons of slightly different. I think he really wants to write his his home tour. M rogue lich maybe burned a little bit by crashing at the dolphin a last year not probably compromised his to receive knee taking the risks of the writers. Who are there. The time-trial yes. It was absolutely fascinating. Because and i guess this is also a characteristic of the donate writers will have records these stages and so it seems that a few were caught by surprise by the time i it looked quite a benign profile. It didn't look as hard on paper as it clearly was. I spoke to sam. Pk this morning. Who's there and just to get get idea of. Just how hard it was. Because that wasn't totally on the tv pictures but gareth thomas and misjudge his effort pretty badly and you can imagine doing the tour but here he went out too fast and really paid for on these lumpy. Climb source of finished. You know sixteen kilometers long am three hundred meters validation and not a mountain time. Trial bought a time trial. That really caught people. I it did. Make me think it would be fantastic to have a time that the tour where writers weren't able to reckitt and almost like a mystery a mystery time trial because it was not that made the state so interesting the fact that the writers were not properly prepared for all. I was gonna say i. Didn't i read the articles where you know. thomas said. He misjudged his effort. But i'd be surprised if he didn't ride the course in the morning. I mean that's pretty standard to to check out the course in the morning but clearly you see the top ten you know writers like like kelderman and gary her know great time trellis in their own right but definitely you wouldn't be up there in a kind of a flat power time trial so definitely must have been a challenging course and you know again. This is why you teams do send their writers to the race the dolphin it because they really can work out the the issues that may arise. And it's better that you know. Thomas made a mistake here then in a couple of weeks time at the tour de france. You're talking about mind games before a union and it's it's always been the case of the definite if you take the recent history of the of the race except for for you know bradley. Wiggins sore from from time to time is very rare. Even in the armstrong days i mean i i said the name Used to make sure what one of his favorite teammates won the do phoenix. You know he was kind of a of a consolation prize for being at a service during the tour. I i really come believe Just like ian that you know. Garin thomas No it doesn't know what he's doing. I mean i it's it's probably part of that. I can only see this fini. The way they're they're tackling. It's the season as as as the preparation for the tour and things going according to plan. you know e e one you wanna stay to race already this season so he proved the form was there i. I can't believe he's former gone all of a sudden so i dunno i. It's it's probably part of mind games. And and i want to talk a little bit of the budget suggestion of a mystery stage. It's you know we we. We have lots of suggestions about the way to improve Cycling into pu to improve in a word to recycling the future gravel. What of the options. That said that's doing all right. But i heard that suggestion but with misery stage in in every grant could be fun. Yeah and just on the point that you know that thomas said. He misjudged his effort. I mean you can also read into that a little deeper in you know speaking of super sapiens. Maybe he under fueled you were a couple of weeks out from the tour and you know this is a time when you know. Riders are really trying to get to their. You know tour de france race. Wait you think it's a a sixteen k effort. It's not a huge day. You don't you don't necessarily need to fuel a lot but if you are kind of writing that line and you know. I'm sure that thomas is i. Think he's come out and said he's very close to his tour de france weight but a stage. Like this is a day that you could potentially under feel and it's happened before you know there's other writers at teams who i've been on who you know. Don't think they need a quite fuel properly for such a short effort especially if they're trying to you know. Drop those final few hundred grams before a tour de france and very well could have been the case you know saying he. Yeah he his effort could misjudge his fuelling just as well. I mean i yeah. I'm sure they wreck in the morning. But i i just think for for tuesday's it'd be so dialed into. They know exactly. What was your quantity. And richie poor is while said he'd been called high just high difficult the stage was he finished sixth and then bostana first and second on the stage they got it right didn't they and I don't know. I don't know how or why i wouldn't have experienced a aguirre up. There m sank who perhaps slightly less of a surprise but yet are uninteresting You know unpredictable. Time trump clearly a quick postscript or chatto dulcinea. While gary thomas bounce back from his disappointed in the time trial he won stage five attacking with a calamitous as the bunch of juice sponge. Because it's been a very tough. Stage negotiated a hairpin band. Thomas held them off writing really well. Am something called. Bradley came late and fast but only pass them beyond the line. So darren thomas stage win and with lucas postal berga holding onto the yellow jersey. Shoot that. I think podcast team cars. The back of the tax lease the.

But i mean the cycling was was was bringing and i'm sure we can talk a little bit about it And yale of course looking forward to to to the tour again especially at while coming out of the pandemic. the tour we did last year was which which was great peculiar in many ways Well let's hope it get back to sort of normal and and yeah of course is going to be exciting and i hope to. Maybe i kind of prepare it even little better to try and match the x. Petits of daniel. On italian food and way of life. Yeah i could provide much more on the tour of a note from and it's it's customs so we'll see you a year of solidly preparing that. We are going to look back on the on the jiro. Obviously we covered that m at great length while we were there but we will be back a be very interested to hear your thoughts on francois. We'll talk a bit but the fini although it's ongoing as we speak as each five is is happening right now. I support will look ahead to the the big stages that we can and in the final part. We're going to talk a little bit. But naomi osaka tennis player. Not really about her or about tennis. Although i think francois will have a fascinating perspective not given that he ran the the press office at the french open for fears but her decision to to not participate press conferences then heard withdrawal from the tournament has raised a lot questions about sports. The media press conferences and so on and so thought very interesting to get your both your perspectives on not to a brief news up. First of all is brief but the phineas said is going on a couple of surprises. In the first seasons brent von more young belgian writer on lots of sydell on incredible breakaway survived from a bigger break to to win alone. The first yellow jersey and you paid for the next day. Look as postal burger similar thing one alone and he took over the jersey and i speak. He's still wearing the very good time trial yesterday. Stage four but something called bradley. Having finished second the first two stages won the third stage alexi loot sank. Who was the surprise winner of the time. I mean it was a lot of surprising results in the time trump. We'll talk about that. In a moment and the other big race that was going on towards individual was the international law to bring in tour. A race that organizers had to work hard to on but it was a great race some really good coverage of it to on the on the player m stages won by north guard. "Thanks, very much for that ad. And we look forward to another mission like that in about Seventeen years time. When the next lot of cicadas will emerge. If you want to send us a slow radio clip please, email us contact at the cycling podcast. Com. Not jumps. Really interested to hear your views on this because one of the big stories in the sporting world this past week has been Naomi Osaka. The tennis player who at the start of the, the French Open said that she would not participate in any of the post-match press conferences because she found them stressful and anxiety-inducing that got a pretty bad burns from a lot of people. And also the organizers of the French Open who insisted that she should take part in them. She then released are a longer and more detailed explanation. But precisely why she didn't want to to participate in them. And she talked about having suffered from depression and being an introverted person to find them very difficult. And I think that that swung the down payment in, in her favor, it made me wonder about how how the whole thing had been handled, you know, from from her point of view, whether it might have been better for her or her managing to speak to the French Open initially and explain the precise reasons why it was really difficult for her to do these. So, we had a situation where the initial reaction was to criticize the athlete and then the later reaction was to be very critical of the French Open in particular and tennis in general, but it's raised a lot of questions and talking points about press conferences and their place in the modern media landscape because they used to be The The Forum through which athletes could speak to fans, you know, their words would be relayed by the journalists principally print journalist, who would attend these press conferences and that's became slightly outdated that perhaps with social media, allowing athletes, direct access to two fans. But nevertheless, you know, even in recent years, in cycling, in particular, press conferences have been Often dull. But but sometimes very, very interesting and actually, almost part of the theater of the sport, you know that there have been press conferences, where wage and we've, we've been able to observe writers to to ask them questions. That they weren't passed being asked elsewhere. And and even when they haven't been able to answer them, I'm thinking a particular, Michael Rasmussen is press conference in 2007 and pull the Tour de France, the most uncomfortable hour. I've spent probably while certainly him as well, but it confirmed his name, well, his guilt and what he was being accused of at the time and his Tour de France, ended pretty soon after that. So they can certainly serve a very important function but I don't know what were your thoughts, first Francois. I mean, I mentioned you used to run the press office, didn't you at the French Open? So I don't know if you've got any, any thoughts on that particular before we talk about the Cycling Club? Part of it. Yeah, well you you kind of more or less summed up the situation as I'm no longer, you know, doing this job as a press officer for the French Open but I did for quite a while. And and I think that's that that we would have reacted the same way at the time I mean it's you have rooms yet you sign them when you join the the big surface of tennis or big circus of the of War to work towards cycling. And and you know it's part of the job..

"To control that more than the fear controlling itself. I honestly believe fear holds people back in a lot of things and confidence is also one thing so just keep that in. Mind as we're talking about confidence. I love your story shane. And it kinda reminds me of what michael jordan said and i. I'm not gonna say this exactly but he said you're gonna miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take and so as you were talking about your experience as a freshman in yudo you getting the award for taking the most shop shots but not getting any goals. Yeah like that didn't affect you in any way. Because you still knew deep down that you are a good soccer player and so irregardless of of you know you missing them. You would miss them anyway if you didn't take him right and so i like that you brought that up i also have a quote unquote. I don't know who the author is but it says confidence isn't walking into a room with your nose in the air and thinking you are better than everyone else. It's walking into a room and not having to compare yourself to anyone else in the first place and it goes back to kind of what she was talking about. And that is we shouldn't compare ourselves. That's the difference between confidence right. It's we go into the room and we go. I don't have to compare myself with the guy next to me or the gal next to me. I don't have to. Because i know in myself that i m you know working on my inner self and doing the things that i need to help myself progress and move forward and i'm not comparing myself to others. Why why is why does self-confidence matter in the first place think about the vicious cycle if someone lacks confidence in trying to communicate to another but fumbles over their words and their their point doesn't get across and and how are they going to act right. They're going to lower their head and they're going to their confidence is probably going to go down..

"And so it doesn't matter how long it takes it doesn't matter if you're running or walking for me i find that so uplifting so that's not my most regular piece of self care although like everyone else it is amazing to me that even though i know how good i'm going to feel post run there are mornings on like a at one but you never regret it. You never regret iran so self care definitely The running. I've also gotten into a skincare routine in the last two years. I think i was very honest. I tell people that until two years ago. I never used to wash my face before i went to mand and somehow two years ago i i know all my friends debuted Watch but anyway. I got into a skincare routine and i enjoy not because my skin just looks better but also because it's just a nice little ritual to have on in the morning in the evening it's two three sticks but makes me feel good and then in times of stress as as now in this last last few months my therapist taught me a ground. Gra breathing techniques to help you feel more grounded. They call it circular breathing. But i don't know why they call it circular breathing because it seems like it's a square but but Or i imagine square. When i do it so you you breathe in inhale for four. You hold for four exhale for four in you. Repeat so inhale on hold and then repeat so inhale. Hold exhale hold needed. That for four counts on i find. It is so coming. And they're just moments when maybe something triggered me or apple wave of sadness that comes over me. And i find if i could just do that for two or three minutes. I feel a lot better. That was going to be my next question for sure About grounding that's a great Exercise that's so easily accessible. If you just remember to do it i do. I see it surprising surprised myself. Actually that told to have a bad memory. But i remember to do it. Because it's just it's so calming and an it's it works so quickly it's quicker than you know stuff down to twitter it's quicker than whatever drug of choice you use. It's just you just do that for two minutes. And things don't seem quite so bad it just comes. It sends a note to your body that everything's okay so you can like relax so yes and we don't breathe deeply most of the time. We're very shallow all day so like taking a moment to it's a reset essentially right sorry set yes reset. Yes exactly that. Have you had support to figure your career out. Aside from when you first started a sandals. Maybe is what i'm asking about. I must have i mean i i told you my parents always always whatever you want to do. Just you know find something you love and doing the best you can so that was a foundation and then i think i can think that i've learned something from everyone i've worked with whether that was what to do or what not to do. But i've had some really good bosses. I've had some dreadful ones too. I've definitely learned that. I'm not the sort of person who can do anything for money. I have to love what i do i and then you know. Hopefully the money comes i. I'm.
