Markets Daily Crypto Roundup
A highlight from Crypto Update | Bitcoin vs. Ether Investment Theses
"This episode of Markets Daily is sponsored by CME Group and PayPal. It's Friday, November 3rd, 2023, and this is Markets Daily from Coindesk. My name is Noelle Acheson, Coindesk collaborator and author of the Cryptos Macro Now newsletter on Substack. On today's show, we're talking about market reactions to the employment data, gold buying, Bitcoin versus Ether investment theses, and more. Now, a markets roundup. Crypto markets started off weaker today as traders caught their breath after some wild moves this week. But then the US employment data turned things around and prices started claw back some of the day's losses. According to Coindesk Indices, at 9am Eastern Time this morning, Bitcoin was trading down 2 .6 % over the past 24 hours at $34 ,450. Ether was falling by slightly less, down 2 .1%, trading at $1 ,799. Other corrections earlier today were even steeper. Solana, whose year -to -date up performance I spoke about yesterday, was down over 9%. The Flow Token was down almost 7%. Sui's Synapse and Compound were down 6%. In macro indicators, today was a big day for data releases. One of the most significant metrics in terms of interest rate expectations is the US employment data. A stubbornly strong jobs market has kept consumption high, which makes it harder to bring down inflation. Any signs of weakness in the job market could be taken as a sign that the US interest rate hikes are finally starting to bite. This is what we got today. The three key figures to watch are the increase in non -farm payrolls, the increase in average hourly earnings and the unemployment rate. All three came in softer than expected. The number of net new jobs created in October was expected to be 180 ,000, which was already a big step down from September's initial report of 340 ,000. The increase came in at 150 ,000. It's also worth noting that the net new payrolls for the previous two months was revised down by 100 ,000. The average hourly earnings increase decelerated in October to 0 .2 % month -on -month from 0 .3 % in September. On a year -on -year basis, the increase was 4 .1%, down from September's 4 .3%. And the unemployment rate ticked up to 3 .9%, its highest rate since January of last year. Average forecasts had been for an October unemployment rate of 3 .8%, which would have been flat on September's number. You're probably thinking that the weakness isn't much. Jobs still grew by a hefty amount, and a 10 basis point increase in the unemployment rate is hardly indicative. You'd be right. But the thing about the unemployment rate is that when it starts to turn, it tends to turn fast. Higher unemployment impacts spending, which impacts company revenues and profits, and generally leads to more layoffs and higher unemployment in a very sad spiral. Not surprisingly, markets are liking this, as the softening of the labour market does reinforce the thesis that peak rates are in. It may feel awkward to celebrate more people losing their jobs, but markets have been eagerly waiting for signs of an economic slowdown because of how it could impact the timing of interest rate cuts. While those are still a ways off, if this week's FOMC statement and press conference is anything to go by, the Fed's decision matrix just got a bit easier. The Fed will no doubt be weighing the risks of hiking too much and triggering a deep recession, with the risks of doing nothing for a while to see what happens to the data. Today's release suggests that the latter is more likely. As we head into record, US bond yields are falling fast. The US 10 -year yield is almost at 4 .5%, having touched 5 % just a few days ago. The 2 -year yield is below 4 .9%, the lowest point since early September. In stocks, US markets were cheerful yesterday, with the S &P 500 rallying 2 % its strongest session since April. The NASDAQ and the Dow Jones each rose around 1 .7%. This morning, futures were pointing to a good reception of the employment data I just spoke about. In Europe, the main indices also all rose yesterday for the fourth consecutive session. The FTSE 100 was up 1 .4%, the German DAX was up 1 .5 % and the broader -year stock 600 was up 1 .6%. This morning, stocks were largely flat up until the US employment data, but have been picking up since then. In Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up a whopping 2 .5%, while the Shanghai Composite rose 7 .10%. Japan's market was closed today for a holiday. In commodities, oil prices were also lifted by the positive market mood yesterday, with the Brent crude benchmark registering an increase of just over 1%. So far this morning, Brent is up a further 0 .5 % on the day, trading at $88 .33 a barrel. Gold continues to hold relatively steady, trading at $1 ,990 per ounce. Staying with gold for a second, earlier this week, the World Gold Council published its quarterly report, which showed that central bank buying of the metal was up 14 % year -on -year. It seems more central banks are reducing their holdings of US treasuries and increasing holdings of gold. China was by far the largest purchaser, with Poland and then Turkey trailing a distant second and third. Stay with us, after the break we turn to some listener questions.

"Here's something I've been keeping my eye on. There's a lot of assets trading range -bound. You look at not just the S &P now cooling off before Labor Day. You finally have kind of a top there in treasuries for now. And then you also have oil also just fluctuating between 79 and 80. The VIX even cooling just a little bit here. It feels a little like the calm before the storm. Calm before the storm. We'll see what tomorrow brings and the next day and the day after that. But you take a look at how we're settling up right now, about 13 seconds to go. The S &P 500 actually finishing a bit higher here. 6 .10, 7 .10 of a percent or so. That is close to session highs. Take a look at the NASDAQ composite. Doing a little bit better. Gonna finish about 9 .10 of a percent higher. You have the Dow Jones Industrial also getting in on the action. Carol gonna finish up about 6 .10 of a percent higher on this Monday. All right, so on this Monday though, Katie, you dig a little deeper into the S &P 500. Yeah, we're seeing some broad -based buying, although I know we're gonna break it down into it because the gains are really slight. But nonetheless, you've got about 419 names in the S &P 500 actually tracking some gains on this Monday. 80 Shinaly to the downside, four unchanged. Yeah, let's take a look at those sectors too because you do finally have some love over at the Semiconductor Index. That is your biggest gainer today on the S &P 500. It is up more than 1%, more than 1 .3 % really. Media and entertainment also up more than 1%. You are looking at just a couple of decliners here. Insurance and utilities slightly down on the day, but pretty much flat, mostly green on the screen, guys. All right, so that's your major industry groups on this Monday. Let's get into some of the individual gainers. And I think you guys have probably been talking about it. Everybody's been talking about it. 3M, top of the S &P 500, your number two gainer, finishing just off its highs of the day, but still with about a 5 % gain. Bloomberg News reporting the company has tentatively agreed to pay more than 5 .5 billion to resolve more than 300 ,000 lawsuits claiming it sold the U .S. military defections.

"I was excited to finish up the genealogies today and I'm guessing you were too. If you think reading them is hard, imagine trying to teach them. In fact, I only have a couple of things to say about chapter 7 and 8. In chapter 7, we see the genealogy of the tribe of Benjamin and then in chapter 8, we get a second genealogy of Benjamin that is almost entirely different. What's going on here? First, the chapter 8 genealogy focuses specifically on the line of Saul. Maybe you're wondering why they couldn't have just included that in the original chapter 7 version instead of having to address it separately? We won't dive into this fully, but at a point in the story that we haven't reached yet, it seems that the tribe of Benjamin may have had a little mini split. Kind of like east and west manasseh did. And since the author wrote this 500 years after the time we are currently in, he may have been retroactively noting who which way in that split. It's not vital information for us to retain, but I wanted to point it out in case the double genealogy confused anyone. Remember how I told you that these genealogy served to track who's a part of what tribe for when they returned from exile? In chapter 9, we get a glimpse into that. It tells us who comes back and in what order and where they go to live. It focuses specifically on Jerusalem, which is the religious capital at this point. This chapter also shows us just how many people are involved in running things at the temple after it's built. It's not just making sacrifices. It's mixing incense and counting utensils and leading worship and guarding Gates and baking bread, so much goes into keeping things running smoothly. And everyone who worked there was considered a leader, regardless of their specific task. Chapter ten gives us a quick review of Saul's death. And in case there was any doubt, this part of scripture affirms the earlier account of how Saul killed himself in battle. That's how it was recorded at the time, and that's how it's remembered 500 years later. Remember the a malachite sojourner who came to David as a messenger in second Samuel one and said he killed Saul personally? This makes it clear that he was just lying to gain favor. He's not even mentioned in the text here. What was your God shot today? And remember, these God shots aren't just something God teaches us, but something God teaches us about himself. So where did you see God or his character show up in what we read today? For me, it was in the final two verses. In these verses, Saul was the leader of God's people, and he wasn't seeking God. In fact, he was seeking counsel from people God had commanded him to kill people who were enemies of God's kingdom. And in that way, Saul was a traitor and idolater and given how God portrays his relationship with his people as a marriage, Saul would have been considered a spiritual adulterer. First 14 tells us that God put him to death. We've talked about how God is the God of the womb and the God of the tomb and how he's the giver and taker of life. And I know that can be a hard concept, but it's what we see in scriptures. So we can't discount it just because it's uncomfortable for us sometimes. The fact that God claims credit for Saul's death might be a tough pill to swallow for a variety of reasons. But here's what it showed me about God that's comforting. God would not stand for a leader who was doing things his own way, who was disregarding the good of the people, who was betraying the God of the universe and seeking selfish gain. God would not allow that person to continue leading this nation state that he had put his own name on. God protects his people, and his protective nature makes me trust him more. And even though I wasn't part of that nation state, I know he's protective of me too. Does harm happen to God's kids? Absolutely. But he preserves what is most important. Our souls and our relationship with him. He's vigilant when it comes to the things of eternal value. I'm so glad he's made me his forever, and that he's the one who keeps me. Because he's where the joy is. Okay, Bible readers, it's time for our weekly check in, how is your mindset in all of this? We're almost a third of the way through the Bible. We'll cross that mark in just a few days. I hope you're loving this more and more all the time. I pray for you often and ask God to continue revealing himself to you. I hope you're learning more about him and finding that you trust him more as a result of what you're learning. For any places that you need help, ask him for wisdom, ask him for heart change ask him to correct the lies you believe about him. I believe he stands ready to answer those prayers with a yes, because he wants to be known even more than we want to know him. I can't wait to dig back into the word with you again.

"It's so powerful. I love how you're tying it together. It's interesting that they accuse him again in verse 34 and say that was altogether born in sins and does thou teach us that's another judgment, isn't it? How do you know? And that's such pride. Yes. Even though he's saying, since the world began, it was not heard that any man opened the eyes of one more. I mean, he's just saying from scripture, this has never happened before. If he were not of God, he couldn't do this, and then will you be teaching us and Jesus here's that he's been cast out. It's just such a tender thing. He knows this man's been ostracized for simply bearing witness, Hank, as you said of what had happened to him. And Jesus finds him. And says dost thou believe on the son of God. So interesting, we don't know the answers to all things. But we know who we know who we can go to who is the way and who is the life. We don't know how I think about wonderful Friends of experienced same sex attraction or questions of gender dysphoria, and that feeling of like, is this an accusation from God or parents, right? A child who's life they've envisioned a certain way and they wrestle with that and what does this mean for this child's life and to hear the lord say, neither has sinned, but that the works of God may be made manifest. And we may not know the way how all of this stuff can be reconciled or figured out. But what we can know is he says, lord, I believe in you. Here he's meeting the savior and the savior says thou hast both seen him and it is he that talk with the and he says lord, I believe. Thou art the way to such an answer to the issues in our lives, time and feels beautiful testimony, just stay with me. I will show you the way how the lord does that for us and the things that seem irreconcilable. What a day for this blind man. Can you imagine waking up that day? It's going to be it's going to be just a normal every day. He can see and now he's debating the elite of the society. And I love how he takes him on. He's good at taking this guy. He can craft a sentence this guy, right? They said, tell us again what happened. He said, I told you already. And you didn't hear. You want me to tell you again? Would you be as disciple? You're disciple. We follow Moses. He calls them out. He says, you guys are in a tough place, aren't you? You don't like him, yet he's doing miracles. That's a tough place for you guys to be in. Yes, yes, even greater than Moses did. Yeah. Yeah, this powerful, my husband loves to quote that. He is of age, ask him. And he'll just say, you're dragging us in here to ask us about our son being healed. Well, he's of age ask him, but they did not want to see the truth. So it's an amazing that the savior. They wouldn't take the answer he wanted. They would ask him again.

"Beautiful. And he goes, he washes and it says and he came seeing. He washes the world out of his eyes with living water. With siloam is living water. What the pool asylum, it means sent Jesus was sent, maybe that's how we look at it. Living water, he is the living water, and I'm looking at in the Old Testament they called it Shiloh is siloam. You'll see Isaiah saying because you refuse the waters of Shiloh that goes softly, I'm going to send an Assyrian tsunami, right? What happens when we refuse the living water? Here come the Assyrians for Isaiah 8 6 in the footnote there, but I love how this all ties up together. Yes, I love how you described he washes away the world and then he's actually prepared to see the living water, who the living water is. So now we see him come to accept Jesus for who he is. And so Jesus has brought light physical and spiritual light, the miracle of the feast of tabernacles allowing him to see. After testifying that he was the light of the world, he just gives this man real light. I was listening to doctor Kent Brown, he said that there is a word that they could have used that Jesus smeared his eyes with clay, but he used anointed because they were in the shadow of the temple there. And this guy was washed in the shadow of the temple there. Then received sight. And I thought, that's pretty good. He could have used another word, but he anointed his eyes with clay. I think doctor Brown for that one. Well, that's covenant language again. In covenants, we grow in covenants we experience conversion in covenant power. We're changed to be able to see and receive ever more of the redeemer's light and power and influence in our lives. So I love that anointing word. Yeah. One of the places if you've ever gone to the Holy Land is just so inspiring to stand at the south steps because it sounds like if he sent him to the pool of siloam, this is exactly where you would go. And so maybe when Jesus left the temple it was right there and then sent this man down siloam and their stairs and so he could have gone there and washed there. It was just a recent story about how they're working on restoring that pool of siloam too. What was it, Hank, a couple of Olympic pool sizes. It was pretty big. Where it has a Kai's tunnel comes out, but I love how 9 fits with 7 and 8 water and light. Yes. In this beautiful miracle and what he will do for us. And Hank, you have to love what happens in this dialog with the family and everybody else, right? He starts coming back. I was going to say these conversations when he comes back seeing. I love every time I read him, I just kind of laugh. Well, he's a veg house guy. Yeah. Isn't John playing that way. I mean, you just see these plain statements throughout John. This is full of them. He's walking around, he can see, and they're like, hey, that looks like the guy who's blind. And others are like, that is him. He's like, it's me. It just looks like it. Yeah. How were your eyes opened? This is my favorite part. He's had a man named Jesus made clay, anointed my eyes. I went to the pool slum and I washed and they said, where is he? And he said, I don't know. I've never seen him. Just a great little dialog, 8, 9, ten, 11, 12, is really fun.

"Welcome to part two with doctor Janet Erickson. John chapter 7 ten. Here's this chapter 9 where we start out with this Jesus passed by. He saw a man which was blind from his birth and his disciples asked him saying master who did sin. This man or his parents, and you just read in those questions, here is that world belief that suffering is punishment. And that suffering would not exist at all if someone you me, the blind man, the blind man's parents, Adam and Eve, whoever. Hadn't deserved to suffer in the first place. So they're clearly from that frame of mind that suffering is a just punishment that suffering is an accusation from God. And here the savior just answers neither have this man sin nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest. What a story that just cuts through like a two edged sword into the truth. Following up with what we just talked about, these themes of light and water, what's going to happen with this man who lives in the dark because he's blind. What's going to happen? Light and water here they come. At the pool of silo, no less, right? It all ties in. Jenna, I think it's applicable for our listeners too, who, when something bad happens, we often think, what did I do wrong? What did I do wrong to deserve this? And Jesus would say nothing. This is part of the plan. Yeah, it's so interesting that loss and difficulty are woven in to the fabric of our mortal experience. He doesn't cause them as elder hall and so clearly taught, he doesn't cause these things. He answers them. So here's Jesus Christ. Rather than seeing the blinds man suffering is a punishment, sees it as an occasion for him to enter in and bring healing. He doesn't accuse he just judges what is

"And what will help you to become good, so he'll say sin uses God's law to ask what is deserved. Grace uses God's law to ask what is needed. Here is Jesus Christ always returning good for evil. That is how he fulfills the law. And the good that he returns is to help us become good. The law is used to judge what is needed, not to condemn. But we mortals, we can get into that behavioristic perfectionistic prove that we're somehow worthy or meriting something. And use the law to judge ourselves or others or rank. And he is just turning that upside down. He's saying the law matters the law matters because it helps us know what is needed to help become good. It's used in the work of love, not in the work of ordering condemning ranking. Do you know what else I love about this as a parenting application? Well, not just parenting, but just as a, as a social skill, I just heard somebody say once, there was some research that one of the things that was hard for teenagers was being reprimanded or corrected in front of their friends. And you notice that Jesus didn't say, is this true while everybody was still standing there with the stone in their hand. He dismissed them first. So I've underlined in verse 9 Jesus was left alone. And the woman standing in the midst, and the saying that I heard was we praise in public, but we correct in private. He dismissed the whole group before he talked to her about that. And it's helped me as a parent to think, if I need to say something to one of my kids, I don't do it in front of their friends and say, Holly, can I talk to you for a minute in the laundry room? The laundry room is always a good room. Right, 'cause like you said, oh, just imagine the shame of this woman and what was happening. And how he dismissed everybody first. I think taking her feelings into account. It's just beautiful. So instructive. I brought a quote from Joseph Smith today. And I've always loved it. He says this.

"Well, who's my neighbor? Watch this because that was a big debate they had. They're not trying to learn the truth. Like you said, this story with your husband. What an incredible answer. What he was without sin first cast a stone. And thankfully they had enough of a conscience that one by one they left and said, look, I'm a sinner too. I mean, I think that's why we all love the story. You said John, that unveiling of the hypocrisy. He does that for us. He is so good to us. He will expose us in our dishonesty to ourselves. And unveil our hypocrisy so that we can be healed. Now, you hope they are healed. Isn't it beautiful that we know from the jst that she from ever after that was faithful and good and believed on his name and followed him just a beautiful. I love the way Jesus diffuses the situation. I'm sure it's pretty intense. Everybody staring. Yes. Without answering, he walks away, kind of takes the attention off of the woman and on to him, as he's kind of just on the ground writing yeah, diffusing all of that so that there's space for him to ask this in critical question. Instead of reacting and I think it's a good life skill, too, when you come into these situations that are pretty intense, learn to diffuse them, to calm things down, then call them all up for their hypocrisy. That's probably not what you do next. But I like the diffusing of the situation. So powerful. And there he is. They all leave, and the woman is standing in the midst. This shamed so ashamed. I love what Jesus Christ does with us because our ubiquitous experience was shame, where we enter into that deformed form of pride in a sense and feel ashamed and accused and how he says where are those thine accusers? And so often I'll think tender with me at my own weaknesses and feeling tempted to go into a place of shame and I can hear his voice say, where are

"Then he cried in the temple, Ye both know me. This is 28, and you know when I am and again, I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true. But I know him. He says, you don't know him, but I know him for I am from him, and he has sent me. We think about as apostles who I think they're on the spectrum of trying to understand who he is at this time. They've already born witness that he is the son of God. What does that mean? They've moved from like a great teacher to a prophet to a great prophet like even like unto Elijah and Moses and now Peter's already born witness tour. The son of God, but what does that mean? Here's Peter's testimony that I love so much later after he's teaching after the savior's crucifixion. He says, for Christ also has suffered for sins, the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God. And it's like he understands the whole work of Christ is to bring us to our heavenly home to bring us into knowing God the eternal father, to knowing our heavenly parents in intimacy. By having become as they are, so he just keeps saying he has sent me to bring you to him. I know him. And he says know him. You don't know him. Whom Ye know not, but I know him. Yes. I know him. We can trust him when he says, I know who the father is, that when we see Christ, we know who our father is, what he's like, what our heavenly parents are like. It always amazes me that there were people there that knew their scriptures. But he was right there and they didn't know and they didn't know who it was. It reminds me of just something I learned this year studying the Christmas story was the wise men go and Herod is like, where will the messiah be born? And they know their scriptures. Oh yeah, that's in Micah. He was right there in their midst and they didn't even know it. But we need to know that it's not just about book learning or knowing your scriptures. There's got to be some revelation there. I guess this is what I'm trying to say. And in verse 31, I love that many of the people said when Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these, which this man has done? Yeah. I put in my margin more than a moral teacher. He's not just a bunch of wise sayings, but is he going to do war miracles than this? Because these stunts are pretty impressive. He's done some pretty impressive stuff. I mean, were you looking for more?

"Let's keep moving through this. It's interesting to think of the next part where he says in verse 18. He that speaketh of himself seek his own glory, but he that seeked his glory that sent him the same is true. And no unrighteousness is in him. And you just think about his witness. I can hear president Nelson telling us, I can't change what God's law is. I am a messenger to communicate what that is. And that we find the truth as we live it, right? In the faith of following what has come from a being whose heart is absolutely pure. There's nothing in it for him. This is purely for us that we can know the truth. What a great connection, Janet. We've heard president Nelson say that. Prophets are rarely popular, but it's not our job to change the doctrine. I love that. We teach what we've been given. He will reference this again later in these sections, so we'll come back to this theme, but just this is not about seeking his own glory. This is out of a pure love to help them know the truth. So then he says, did not Moses give you the law. And it's so interesting that here he is. He's the one that gave Moses the law. Right. And he is standing there as their commemorating this time, Moses bringing the law, and they are rejecting him, they're seeking to kill him. And of course, he's telling them over to him. I am of the father. He that sent me is true. And in a sense, as he sent Moses, as this living Christ sent Moses with the law, the father has sent Christ. To be the fulfillment of that law. And he's trying to help them understand and it's difficult for them. We'll come back to their response to that. I love that connection. Did not Moses give you the law. None of you keep it for law. Here you are celebrating the day. That the law was given and you're not keeping it. You're actually trying to break it. You want to kill me. That's one of the Big Ten of the laws. I always marvel at that in so many New Testament stories. They're so upset that a man who had been waiting by the pool of Bethesda after 38 years is healed. On the Sabbath. But they're so upset about the Sabbath. They're not going, I am so happy for that man. How long have you been there? And so I don't want to go break this part of the law of Moses, but let's plot to kill Jesus. It's kind of amazing. Yeah. Amazing. And not only thou shalt not kill, but here he is the one who gave it two books. Yes. It's so remarkable. But it does help you shed light on just the ironies in our own lives. How we might not see. Strained and anat and swallow a camel, right? Yes, so John to your comment there. Here's 23, and he's going to reference that healing on the Sabbath that just had happened in the previous chapters. And he's just saying you're angry at me for healing a man on the Sabbath. And I love this part because so he says, if a man on the Sabbath day received circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken, yet you're angry at me because I have made a man every wit, whole on the Sabbath day.

"Enjoy your family and friends and have everybody around and everybody's forgiven of their sins. That's a good day. When I was a kid, the tabernacle was where the tabernacle choir setting. Okay, yeah. And there's a baptistery there, and that's where I was baptized within the tabernacle. In the basement there, John? Yeah. So when I first heard feast of tabernacles as a kid, I didn't know what that meant. So I'm glad Janet you're explaining that they made booths. They made little things to dwell in while they were waiting for Moses and I think for John in verse two there to just say now the Jews feast of tabernacles was at hand and then just to go on, it's kind of like if one of us wrote a book and had people reading it a couple of thousand years later and said, it was the Christmas season, but we didn't explain what that means. There is food. There is music, there are all sorts of traditions. There's like you said, Hank, joy. There was an old saying that if you had not seen the joy of the pouring out of water ceremony, you did not know joy in your life. He did not know joy. And John kind of writes like we all know what that is. I think it's important to talk about what is this feast and what do they remember so that we get the backdrop because some of the things Jesus is going to say are oh, you know, because this is the middle of the context. Yeah, so it wasn't the tabernacle choir feast. It wasn't the feast of tabernacles like downtown Salt Lake City. They were little boosts that they dwelt in after their leaving Egyptian bondage. Wow. I think if my kids wanted to live in a tent outside for a week, I'd be like, yeah, I'm gonna do it and then the moment they were asleep, okay.

Sometimes you know it is time to go out there and you make a decision and make an investment So being conservative aweso does not mean that you just you know even when the market's down forty percent fifty percent you you just stay there because you're too afraid to take risks but You have to wait for an opportune moment and these moments come every now and then and at that point you know you make your move to to what he was saying. You know that that's what you were saying. Mike where a client you know. It's all about putting time on your side and and to take you back to baseball. You know get get ahead in the count you know. "Vay low interest rates have dropped all the way to one percent at that time seem lou at that time given that nowadays zero percent And they stayed low for a long time resulting and You know they're being a build up of Leverage in the system so I mean ultimately in a market that says correcting where there are self correcting mechanisms. The longer you try to prevent it from self-correcting You're just pushing the can down the road right. Moral hazard right is what it is. And you know that that that Action will just continue on until there is a it's like disciplines child right same same thing the longer you let a child act in you. Know undisciplined way Then the harder it is to correct that or until some event happens. So it's it's no different than this but when when markets are allowed to be self gretchen win. The market is a free market. You have mechanisms to correct. It's called bankruptcy. I is called you know defaults. I mean that that is the correcting mechanism. And anytime you have government intervention with that it has. There's moral hazard to write it just to that point. Yeah you you have this constant reset but it always allows the overall economy the overall market to continue to grow over time. You know the but to that point when you like the oxford. I'm going to go back to this. When he keeps staving off leaks then what you end up doing is inevitably overstretching and causing this problem. To expand get kicked down the road so long so long so long that when it actually does correct. it's it's a huge huge correction and takes a lot longer to guy we were talking about it talking to in the first hour You have to hit a bottom. "7 10 W. O R. I'm sure you remember a couple weeks ago. There are all kinds of pronouncements from the mayor and the governor that on May 19th everything was gonna open up and that's the big day. Well, today's may 19th. So today is the day. So here's some some of what that means. It means that fully vaccinated people in New York and Connecticut Don't have to wear a mask inside or outside. I still can't understand New Jersey's not jumping on board. I thought we were all gonna act in concert as one tri State area, but New Jersey soft, often a wilderness here. Now you do. There are exceptions. Public transportation, nursing homes, homeless shelters, jails, schools, healthcare facilities. They all have to continue to wear masks. Now, private businesses do have the ability. So this is what gets a little complicated. No people read. Well, you have to wear a mask inside. Then they go to their local store, and their local story says You have to wear a mask well, private businesses do have the ability to require mass if they so desire. Now, let's see Most businesses in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut got a 100% capacity today. But as Joe knows the newscast, they still have six FT. Social distancing rules. This gets complicated because all right example. My wife was in a supermarket and people are coming closer than six FT. They don't want to get into arguments with people, but they still have the six ft rule. But a someone said something to one of the purse customers and she said, Well, I thought they changed the rules. So I'm afraid maybe changing rules. Everyone seems very confused by all this stuff, Michael. Yeah. I mean, I think the sixth six ft thing is kind of falling by the wayside. I am amused When I go the grocery store. They still have all the you know, purple tape on the floor, you know, standing of the arrows. You remember when all this started, You could only go one way down. I'll use the other aisle to go the other way. Any attention to that stuff together. Derby and Michael Supermarket look well, here's Here's the problem. So I live in the West Village, which is full of a lot of up tight, snooty liberals. Right and these people, they won't give up their mask for years, at least a year. So all the businesses here they all these signs saying. No mask, no service. I maintain if there was one business down here that said, you have to wear a mask anymore. These snooty, uptight liberals who keep their masks on When they get in the bed. They would not go to the store. They would they would they boycott. They think it must be a trump person. We can't go there, you know. Oh, they love it. They love their masks, The snooty liberals. They just They love him. It's a It's a badge. It's like I I'm a right thinking person. I follow the science and I'm gonna wear my mask forever. Never gonna give it up when I go to the well, Here's an interesting thing, though. Equal knocks my gym. I think today's the day you don't have to wear a mask when you're unequal Knox. Well, here's the thing. The guy who found the equal Knox You also founded that spin cycle thing. I think it's called. He gave a member. He gave a big fundraiser for Trump out in the Hamptons. And then people are canceled. There's they canceled the soul cycle memberships and all this kind of stuff. So I'm gonna go to the gym later. I'll see if people are putting their massive. I was once that that I was once at the gym. Right. So here, I'm swimming. Look, I'm in the pool or a body in the pool. Now they only allow one person per lane in the pool. So there were three people in the lanes. Three lanes. Three people link. I'm waiting for my turn. I am by myself, okay? By myself sitting far away on the bench just waiting and I pulled my mask down a little bit, because it's kind of hot, muggy there in the pool. I pulled my mask down. And this jerk who swimming one of these Snooty liberals. Yes. Stops in mid in mid swim stands up, Bushman. Put your mask on, Please. You're kidding me. And you're the pool. You got Korean all over you. I'm 85,000 ft from you. Stop to swim. Put your mask on. Please. What you say? I said, go drown yourself. You did that, didn't he? Oh, that's our boy. Listen, when you go to the so when you go to the place today to exercise once you bring like a tape recorder along, you could do interviews with the people about the rules. And then you know you could play like Alice Stockton Rossini in and do some man on the street interviews. I think they'll be very educational. Wouldn't believe that Dallas she'd go to my gym and do that I'm not doing I don't like to talk about Jim. Okay? I'm not a friendly gym person. I go in there to get my swim in and that's it. I don't wanna make small talk with you. I don't want to chatter with you. I'm not interested in what? You're blessed. Shoot. Jack would If you Jacqueline were there are all over him like a like a cheap suit. There's a kind of a cute lifeguard. I'd like to talk to her. She's a dance. There you go. That's that's my engaged co host. Um so you're familiar with the Morton Williamson supermarket chain in New York upscale supermarket chain. Actually, one of my neighbors owns that anyway. Um So they sent an email saying that they're going to go along with the CDC guidelines, and they got such blowback from their customers. So they had a seven and a second email a few hours later. Saying, Well, we recently sent you an email explaining our policy regarding mass. But in doing so we stepped into a hornet's nest and we were now encouraging customers and employees to continue to wear their masks. So yeah, there's a big segment of the population that doesn't want to do that. All the snooty liberals. They cannot give up their mask. It's a badge of honor to wear a mask. You you must love this. You must love this Texas governor. Here with Greg Aptitude. Is that Well, he signed an executive order. Prevents counties, cities, public health authorities and local government officials from requiring people aware mass So he.
