Psalm 1: The Righteous Vs The Wicked
"With psalm one which contrasts the wicked man with the righteous man. It says the righteous man will be different from the wicked man in the way he thinks, acts and engages with the world around him. And because of that, he's blessed. One of the things the righteous man thinks about is the word of God. He delights in it. This delight in God causes him to flourish in every area that matters, and no matter what the circumstances are around him, he'll be sustained and upheld by God's word as his source of life.

"You just mentioned that because we've moved on. I want to get back to Tucker Carlson and Fox. But you just mentioned that The Washington Post reported that tomorrow Tuesday, Biden would make his announcement that he's running for president in 2024. You said today for some reason it looks like, in fact, that is not happening and then you said it may have something to do with the entrance into the race on the democratic side of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. That's something the media has been not covering. And it's very significant. Let's go back to the history of Robert F. Kennedy's senior in 1967 and 68. Johnson was president and his ratings were crashing just like Biden's because of the Vietnam War. And there was tremendous dissent in the Democratic Party against Johnson, led by Robert F. Kennedy senior, the U.S. senator. And everybody pressured Bobby Kennedy to run, run against Johnson and the primaries. And he said, I won't do it. It would split the party and could elect Richard Nixon, the beta of the Democratic Party. So I'm not going to split the party. I'm not going to do that. Now, there's tremendous pressure inside the party on Biden to step aside. And maybe let Michelle Obama run maybe let Hillary run maybe let AOC run you're kidding. But she's literally not old enough to run. No, she is by three months. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren. And just like there was before, for Bobby Kennedy to run. Biden ends COVID national emergency after Congress acts

The Breakdown
Zooming Out on the Recent Turbulence in the Banking Space
"Today, we are catching up on the macro as we had an important moment to understand how the powers that be were feeling in the wake of the last few weeks turbulence in the banking space. Indeed, the world for this FOMC meeting looked very different from where things were last time. At least or especially to the casual observer. Now, consensus had been building for a shift back to a larger 50 basis point hike. In early March Powell attended annual congressional oversight hearings and delivered a Frank assessment of the macro situation. He said, quote, if the totality of the data were to indicate that faster tightening is warranted, we would be prepared to increase the pace of rate hikes. Jobs and CPI data for February had shown some cooling but were beginning to tell the story of sticky high inflation. Interpreting this as guidance that a reacceleration in rate hikes was in the cards, markets quickly adjusted. Pricing in a 78 percent chance that the fed would deliver a 50 basis point hike. Just days later, however, when the bank run at Silicon Valley was in full swing, the odds of a faster height collapsed entirely. Some market participants began to price in a chance that the fed would pause rate hikes with the probability peaking at 45% at the height of the panic. On Tuesday night of this week heading into the FOMC meeting, however, markets had priced a 73% chance of a 25 basis point hike, with the remaining probability assigned to a rate pause. Importantly, while this might sound like a strong consensus, that's actually the most uncertain market position in recent fed history. The fed almost always follows the market, but with a major economic shock occurring so close to a fed meeting, it was hard to know how the FOMC would weigh volatile market pricing. Jim Bianco actually outlined this in an excellent Twitter thread earlier in the week. He shared that the only example of the fed going against market consensus in the post 1994 forward guidance era was in September 2008. Bear Stearns had collapsed in March leading to large rate cuts, but by June policy had stabilized. That Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, the day before the FOMC meeting, and markets scrambled to price in a 68% chance of a rate cut, where they had previously been signaling the expectation of no move. Fed chairman Ben Bernanke ignored this repricing of policy and health rates steady. Three weeks later, however, the FOMC would hold an emergency meeting to deliver a 50 basis point rate cut as markets rapidly deteriorated.

We have been going through even following this part of the creed that is talking about what it is for God to be a human and divine. Sorry, what is this for Jesus to be human and divine? Man, and so we talked about the incarnation. Why did the word become flesh? Remember those four reasons a couple days ago? For four reasons one to save us by reconciling us with God. Secondly, so that thus we might know God's love, thirdly, to be our model of holiness, fourth, to make us partakers in the divine nature. And so then we talked about the incarnation, this incredible mystery. The central mystery, remember, is the Trinity. Beyond that though, is the incredible mystery of the incarnation that God became one of us. Remember that we mentioned that many times that Jesus is a divine person. Remember the second person of the Trinity, divine person, with two natures. A human nature? And a divine nature. We talked about, he didn't absorb human nature, that he assumed human nature. We talk about the fact that he wasn't half gone in half man. He was fully God and fully man in the divine person of the second person in Trinity. Also, that here at Jesus, we talked yesterday that he took on a truly human soul with the functions of intellect and will. Operations of intellect and will. And as such, his intellect had to grow, but also as such all the way along, every moment of his life. On earth, the son of God, in his human knowledge, also showed the divine penetration he had into the secret thoughts of human hearts.

"Talking. Technically absorb was a program that used objects to manage data all possible to reimplement without objects that would destroy all the sophistication of the games engine so when the shadowy implemented sat down to design the z machine. They had objects in mind. This approach of building a virtual machine for very specific task allowed them to create the best possible environment for that task so the z machine was designed for managing object data specifically. It was designed to work with trees of objects attr- in this context is a data structure that stores data in a hierarchy such as rooms connected to other rooms or items inside of rooms. The immediate benefit is that working with objects on z. Machine is dead simple. It has in instructions for moving objects in memory. Traversing the object tree and getting and setting object properties. It goes further but just those four operations should give you a taste of what. The z machine offers. You can accomplish. Really complex. object manipulation using a single instruction that's just plain convenient. What's interesting is when we start looking at the impact of these complex instructions at scale for example let's take the insert object instruction this instruction will in certain object into a specific location in the object tree. If my reading on the doctor correct then it takes a grand total of four bytes to encode that instruction and its arguments as z machine code for normal computer. This type of operation would require multiple instructions. You'd need to do something along the lines of shuffling around pointers and memory. Maybe changing some values of certain memory locations when all said and done you'd probably end up using more than four bytes of machine code so the z machine helps you shave off a few bites here. And they're moving around objects tastes less machine code so does accessing objects and their properties so does moving around trees and tables since most absorbs code is just shuffling around objects and manipulating data. The savings really adds up. The net result is that zork port for the z machine. Ends up being a much smaller program even when you take the size of the z machine interpreter into account. This is phase one of the true madness. Anderson said that we're dealing with entire programming system and he wasn't wrong. The z machine was a totally new computer or rather a totally new fake computer. It didn't have any native compilers or programming tools so the next step after defining the machine was to make some tools to actually use.

"One of the tricks that made adventure so slick was that it employed synonyms take action could be invoked by typing take but also by typing grab. It's just a quick and dirty way to make things easier on the player. Zork took this a whole 'nother level above sure it had synonyms for actions and objects but that was just the start in general of full command and zork is composed of an action and up to two objects. This gives you such hits as take lamp or unlock. The door with the key thrilling. But you don't always have to follow that pattern to make things more manageable. Zork sparser will try to aggressively assume. What the player wants to do if you're trying to do an action with only one valid object within reach zork can figure out the proper result if you're in a room with a solitary lamp you can just type grab and zurich will reply. You now have a lamp in your inventory. More dynamic interactions. Let's say you run into a troll and decide that you don't want to talk anymore you may start off by telling zoric to attack the troll if you have more than one weapon than zork will ask what weapon you want to attack with you then further specify your sword. That's an action. In two words so zork now has enough information to process your request and starts slashing at the troll next turn instead of typing the full attack the troll with the sword you just type attack zorka smart enough to infer what you mean and the troll slashing will continue the whole point with the text system is to make things easier on the player inspiration here is definitely at least in part coming from d. A human dungeon master will very readily make assumptions about what a player is trying to do. You could very well have the exact same situation where a player says. They wanted to attack the. Dm has to ask for some clarification and then moving forward can guess what the player will do next round. They're gonna probably attack again for us. Humans with our squishy malleable brains. This is dead simple process but computers have to be programmed carefully to do something this natural. But that's just the text to a part of historic as we look deeper. We get into the more interesting details. I wanna pull us back to one of the core issues of colossal cave.

"Saying exit will let you leave the house where the game starts so far pretty simple all of those interconnections the mapping of keywords to progress the states that's defined in the data file but that's only part of the games logic the huge emission here. The big glaring hole is puzzles. Well that part of the program possibly the most fun. Part of the program isn't fully defined by the data file. This is where the inflexibility part should start to make some sense. I think a good example from early in the game is the snake puzzle. This is your spoiler warning in case you haven't played the first few puzzles in adventure. Anyway you run into a big scary snake in the cave pretty early on the game. The first time this happens you die. That's kind of how puzzles in text based games go you eventually figure out that in another room you can catch a bird in a small cage then if you release it. The bird will scare away the snake. It doesn't make a lot of sense but hey it works. It's kind of funny. It's the stick to these types of games. Well here's the weirdness. The bird is defined in the data file. It's just an item. The snake is also at least mentioned in the data file. It's part of a rooms state. Specifically the snake room has a state with and without the snake. But there's nothing in the data file that defines how you get from one state to another batch of unleashing. The bird on the unsuspecting snake is all defined in the games. Fortran code itself specifically. It's a special case of the throw action. Which gets alias to a number of synonyms that cover the bird situation. Such as release or drop. There's a line of code that checks if you're releasing the bird and if the snake is in the room with you and then it handles. Those interactions to mix the south in. General is a bit. What we're seeing is a coupling between the actual game data and the program. You could write a custom data file for adventure but no matter how much of the data you change. The bird will always scare off the snake. If it's dropped in the right room that's burned into the code. It's baked into the binary. If you wanted the player to be able to say. Eat the snake. Then you would have to modify some fortran and re compiled a game while that's not the end of the world. It's annoying quirk. Adding new puzzles or any kind of new functionality means blowing up the complexity of the program by way of example we can look at adventure itself. The first version written solely by crowder was only seven hundred. Nine lines of four tram woods expanded the game significantly. He added scoring and some general features but crucially. He added a new slate of treasures and puzzles to solve. This bumped adventure up to just shy of three thousand lines afford tran code in the long term. This kind of expansion can make a project hard to maintain and can make future expansion more difficult to handle every.

"And people were obsessed with adventure. There's no other way to put it. And i particularly liked that last part that want student went so far as debugging the program just to squeeze out that last point the bug really bit some people heart perhaps more interesting here is anderson's quip about fortran. If you've never used for tran then maybe you should consider yourself a little bit lucky. It's a strange archaic tongue to be sure. Besides just being outdated even by nineteen seventy standards for train wasn't really the best tool for text. Based anything it was designed for handling math numeric data and basically nothing else for tran. Hand deal with text based stuff. It can do a little bit of string manipulation but that's getting outside of its comfort zone. That's just the service level issue with fortran for this application. Once you start actually profiling the problem a little deeper things. Don't get much better. In fact i'd say they get a lot worse. I'm going to put the cart before the horse here. But i need to introduce one crucial source. The articles zork a computerized fantasy. Simulation game was published in tripoli in nineteen seventy-nine besides discussing zork which will get to in a few minutes here. The article gives a pretty comprehensive operatings theory of text based adventure games in general. The article describes these types of games as an exercise in data management. Something akin to a hyper intelligent database further the authors posit that objects are crucial when implementing this type of game. Now i don't mean objects in the physical sense we're talking about objects the programming construct in the simplest possible terms and this is a radical simplification. So don't get too mad at me. Objects are reusable data structures that can follow and inherit some predefined template each object can contain a mix of data execute will code information about its relationships to other objects and even entire sub objects. It's basically a really flexible format for defining a system and it's also really modular and expandable framework. It's a great way to say model a network of interconnected rooms all containing items fortran. Just playing doesn't support objects at least it didn't at that time period. I think there's a few modern versions. They do kind of have object support you got a bunch of different data types for numbers yacht. Bullions even got a raise of any dimensions. You want plus. You could encode.

"Right zoric is such a complex program that it even has its own virtualization environment. That's not something you really see often with any video games. Let alone at text based adventure game. It might seem out of place for something as deceptively simple as a text interface to have a virtual machine dedicated to it but there is a deeper purpose to this madness. -sorts authors described the game. As a computer fantasy simulation. It's meant to be an immersive and engrossing experience. And even decades later the game still retains a certain feel of wonder from breaking into a small house delving into the underground empire to being eaten by crews and other nasties lurked in the shadows. Zork does really have a way of pulling in so grab your trustee sword and hate maybe only the sack to put some treasuring today. We're going to be looking at zork the game but more importantly zork the program. We're going to explore how project goals influence software design. How sometimes a radically complex solution can really pay dividends and how the early internet made games like sorek possible. Most importantly will try to parse out what makes so much fun to play decades later. It's simple to just say that arpanet was the predecessor to the modern internet. That's an easy tagline. Maybe if you're feeling a little more verbose you can talk about the difference between public versus private ownership or maybe the difference in communication protocol. Those are both valid approaches. But i think it misses the really big picture in practice. Arpanet was just cut from a different cloth. Part of it was the size part of it was the user base and part of it was timing. The internet has managed to connect just about everyone in the world. It's become a great place to build. Small communities of like minded people but by contrast arpanet was a lot closer to one community of like minded people. There was also this rampant type of openness to arpanet that. We don't get online anymore. Yeah it was a government funded research network and it was hard to access. If you weren't in the right places but over time that can it just became a cover story. There weren't really malicious actors on arpanet first off. Being a militias actor on arpanet was a federal crime. So you didn't really want to do that. You weren't supposed to mess around with a government network. Plus the community was so small that it could effectively self police if someone was getting out of line so users were nearly free to come and go. It was just sort of assumed that you knew what you were doing. Mainframes were somewhat open to perusal at least files could be really easily browsed. Some systems even had their doors flung wide open for any passersby. This made the perfect storm to allow new phenomena to spread like wildfire amongst the small community. One of the first sparks came in nineteen seventy six and it was called colossal cave adventure. This was one of the first text based adventure games now. I've kind of gone back and forth. This adventure was actually the text based adventure game or not. There are a few earlier examples. There are some far stranger examples but adventure was at least the first popular member of the species. It was initially written by will crowther at bbn. A computer company based in massachusetts crowder developed adventure on a computer at bbn that was connected to arpanet soon. Thereafter game was discovered by don woods. A programmer at stanford university all the way out in california. He was browsing the arpanet. One day found file and became instantly engrossed. In the coming months he expanded the game. Further in one thousand nine seventy seven this souped up version hit the network. Nearly everyone with access to the arpanet was talking about adventure. Tradition holds the entire computer. Industry was set back by at least two weeks just by this game. It's pretty easy to see. Why adventure had this.

"With every system seeming to fail us from the department of justice to our election systems to our mental health institutions all around the world. How in the world are we ever going to break out of our rut. So a whole bunch of people argue that capitalism or business is to blame but those can both be pretty incredible tools on the paths to equity and diversity and inclusion the key is leadership philanthropic expert unparalleled business. Mind and ceo of acumen. Jacqueline nova grants joins political on this week to share the power of entrepreneurs and problem solvers to fix the messes that our politicians and our partisanship have created. At least if we revolutionize our moral leadership. I'll ask her about the role of young problem. Solvers in tackling our biggest challenges. How can we ditch politics for problem solving. What does moral leadership mean in. Twenty twenty one. Can we all become stakeholders in our shared future. And how the heck are we going to get along. How are you how are you. i'm fine where are you doing. i'm good where are you these days actually in london right now. Okay your husband's from london and is that right. He's a bread and And has two daughters amazing daughters and so before the offices all open. We thought this was our moment. governor fully vacs to get here. Md with the girls. Was it tough to do to get to london. because they've got a heck of a lot of restrictions. Yeah i the first. Seven eight days of quarantine was not fun and we were checked out by the security. Three times came to our house really to make your left. They have taken it seriously. Isn't it interesting that they have taken it seriously and yet far more seriously than maybe america has arguably granted. We're fifty different states with different abilities to govern people's movement than they are but they still have had sort of the same outcomes almost as the us In the beginning the you know so much as leadership so in the beginning. Boris was very slow to call this a pandemic and Kind of took him to get the disease off so that was the early stage and then with nhs the vaccines really moved. But in a way you almost have to counterpart to Moldy in india where They started to open and a big plane of indians. Came which is where you got the delta virus and i'm really glad that they're calling it. The delta virus not the india india virus literature. and so it's I think the uk is just such a a place that somebody people traveled through. And it's a it's an island and sell Variants hit i from south africa than from india. And we didn't get that right. But so obviously i want to talk to you about leadership in general because your book is manifesto for a moral revolution. They handle title. I'm so at least you own it. So that's what that's what matters right accountability. But since we're on that i mean looking at different leadership styles. You started to talk about mody. You talked a little bit about boris. Johnson i when you talk about the quarantine in the uk. When you went to england. I think about justin trudeau in canada. And the way they've kind of had that same sort of they do a three week quarantine there at least they were doing that for the bulk of the virus last year. And i think still are having quite a bit of quarantine time still there full sh- in a situation like this where it is. A global pandemic would benefit from having somebody who was a global leader. I'm not suggesting we have a president of the world necessarily but would we benefit from some leadership that can unify all the countries in some way rather than everybody doing a piecemeal thing absolutely. I mean i often say that. We don't get dignity as a human race until we all get dignity and those words are easy to say but the over and over in my lifetime. I've seen what it actually means in practice and there's probably no better metaphor for that ban the global pandemic that we won't be safe until everyone is protected. We have the vaccines we could build the distribution systems. I actually think we could do it. In a way that would provide jobs in a real sense of purpose at a moment. Where so many young people are feeling so without that To take this on as a as a great global endeavor that the world could achieve together and What better way to push us as human beings to extend outward in this moment when so many of us are pulling inward. So i'm all in. I don't think we need ones are global leader but we can certainly have a coalition of leaders. Who recognized that that success for this can't just be one individual one nation it's got to be A success that starts by making sure that the vulnerable are included. But is there not an argument. Also that in a situation like this. I mean the reason they tell you to secure your mask before. Helping others are an airplane. If there's a tragedy right. I mean we know that the united states is buying millions of vaccines that they are going to. The administration announced that to share with other countries. But is there not an argument for needing to take care of one's own nation first before going elsewhere or is there is. Do you have a counter argument to that. I i don't really ever see things in binders and you'll find out good. I i actually think that it's it's not either or.

Are your decisions being influenced by what you think people want you to be. Are you making troops and decisions based upon which shooter you. A lot of our lives are skunks because our life stinks. And i've been there where people want to get away from you because they figured you out because they know you ain't balance you talk about about their life. Just say perfect guys but they know you afraid to try. They knew mask and stuff. And your life stinks. You're gonna have days where you you have days where you're gone. I've been a skunk parent while stunk apparent days in my life. I've been scott husband. I've been a skunk friend. I've been skunk influence. I've been a skunk support life. But i'll tell you one thing i damn sure. Don't stay one. I have proven are growing. I work hard at that now. Working hard at trying to make people think that i'm always this magnet man. But today i knew i was the magnet out here. I'm gonna wrap this episode with this. Try to keep short and sweet and listen on g men. If you really enjoyed this episode is this. This is from the all over the place. But i think there's a lot of things you can grab in my main thing that i'm telling you right now i'm gonna make sure off of this. Are you chasing. are you attracting man. Are you chasing it. Are you attracting evaluate that for me. But i'm leave you with this story and it's a powerful one so i got a chance to drop names but i wanna give this manage credit. Because he taught me this. He gave me a perspective. And that's life. There's no troops in life only perspectives and he gave me his perspective. His name is big boy. Somebody might know him. He's probably gonna talk radio personalities. la he's interviewed everybody from kind gates. I mean everybody. I asked him a question. I was like man. it's fifty one. I said what was the difference in your forties and fifties like get around people. That are always asked that question. He told me something that i knew immediately when he opened his mouth and it and i said this is something. I'm gonna teach forever and hold on to teach kids. And i'm never gonna forget this. I call it life credit card because he broke it down. He said this. And i'm paraphrasing and put it in my own words. We said the thing that i realize trend. Is that everything that you do. You're putting it towards life credit card. He said you know like a credit card life. You know like real life where you know you might not have some that you can afford to put on a credit card. You charge it to the game charges to your card and eventually you've got to pay it off. He said the thing that i realized that fifty years old is that life is just like that because every decision you make. He's talking about negative once. You might not feel it in that moment because charge. It's a life's credit card right every bad habit. He said i was five hundred pounds. You know i realized that everything. I was even healthy. I was discharging it to life's credit card. He said then it got to a point where just like in the real world it was time to collect and all the bad decisions that i made and not exceed the season i was planning. I wasn't having that garner's mindset that debt but debt showed up the data diabetes sicknesses showed up on my doorstep and i had to pay life's credit card listened to this episode. Right now what is your life credit card like. And i realized this. We're not going to be perfect. Circle have seasons with that credit card is damn near maxed out. We've been charged to the game. I just had a season of that in march. You guys know. But the thing that i've learned is that the longer you wait to pay off their credit card the hardest hit you when it's time to collect so if you had an off week you did a lot of negative things that didn't help you become the greatest. You don't keep adding to those things because you don't see the changes taking place because i'm telling you the changes are taking place that's life you look realize like dang i'm overweight. Dang i'm underway dane. I fell off dane. What did this come from. But our habits every day built the future that we will reap our disciplines and so i challenge everybody. Listen to this podcast right. Now we charge it to the game. We charge it to life credit card. Make sure that next week. Make sure that next day make sure the next few days that you pay it off so last night. I it's my dad's birthday a porta credit card out and i said hey be a credit card day but tomorrow paying off that card and i'm out here right now paying off that card because i refused to allow debt to rack up in my life because of my inconsistency because of my lack of discipline because my poor life management skills i refuse to allow those things because again there's gonna come a day when you've got to pay for if you're always doing people wrong and being fake to get ahead. Yeah you might get ahead. You might not see how life is charging that car but essentially this come a point where people figure you out. You got to pay off that debt. Maybe somebody confront you for doing them wrong. Maybe it's cormo you believe in karma. Maybe it's just life coming full circle. Would you charge them to lights credit card. That's something and that might be the greatest accountability to that. I ever came across an every day. I'm asking myself that question. Managing my emotional not financial my emotional wealth and that's one of the best ways so manager. Emotional wealth is understanding that every time you ignored every time. Keep the promises to yourself every time you do somebody wrong every time you lied everytime do all these things right. Every time you're choosing you're trying to arts impress people all the things we talked about today. You just racking up that debt in your soul. You ain't points for neath.
