"Championship game. When you add it all up. It was Alabama 52. Ohio State. 24, Alabama over 630 yards of Total Offense Nick Savings, seven national championship in the last 16 years that he's been a college head coach. Yikes. We hate to do this. The Bobby Carpenter, who graduated from the Ohio State University, does a great job account football NFL analyst catch him on 97.1 fan in Columbus, part of the morning show. It's a pleasure to bring him in here. Thanks to show a pencil performance line, Bobby, your team loses by that amount. Go It's obviously a tough on you after a high speed data look good early on. March. There is moving the ball. You know, there was those stops really to be had. And you know, frankly, outside of the very browning strip sack, you know, though, there weren't really any other stops in the first half. So You're going against family and he's gonna have to play a really good game virtually perfect. It looks good early on field goals. We're not going to get it done. In Ohio State. You came up short. You know, they weren't able to get to stop. They had damaged some opportunities Dirty. Get him down the credit, nausea Harris Credit. Devante Smith, that offensive line back. Jones. The guys made plays may broke through tackles. They black guys for yours. You sound way to pick up A little extra yards, the things that matter the most critical times and You know, because of that, when you're really counted squad, you're gonna be able to win the game and they want to go on the way there at the end, And, you know, I get a ton of credit higher. Steve thought they did what they thought they could do. They tried, Um You're the end. You knew the pupils weren't going to get it done there down from guys. But you know, at the end of it, you're right. A day's not gonna bake. They found the anybody is else is either crazy your study. A lot of things going on, and you wish you were just a little bit of more competitive game into the fourth quarter. You know, they typed it up a little bit, but You know, it didn't really have They get the captivity that you were hoping for. You know, the energy passing behind the nights that I've kind of disappointed about just being a fan of college football. You, Bobby. When we talked earlier today, you brought up Steve Sarkeesian and how he uses motion just to get you off balance. But tonight it was a whole another level, man. I mean, like you weren't all American. You want a national championship in Ohio State and play the NFL? When you watch sharks offense and if you try and shade another guy had done the Devante Smith are here comes nausea, Harris, right? And then Here comes Billingsley. Oh, here comes matchy. You're here. I'm going down the list, right? It's insane. So to describe the when you try and defend what Sarkeesian was running again tonight or what he's done all year from a defense perspective. Just how hard is it to try? Forget Stop! Just slow down. Yeah. I mean, you know when your own was a bartender, Bookie and Friday, I mean, it's got a lot of things right here. Try to handle the first three for to show their names involved about those how that works, but So you know, dark called a terrific game tonight. And it's amazing if you go back. If you guys think about this, you know, older like myself. Remember watching Jerry Rice play? It was the old Jerry Rice play that they used to run Bill Walsh off emotion on the goal line. You know, he'd come back take that He was on the cross and also a sideline. Montana Little bit young later, but they kind of phase it out in the eighties, and they wrote the pilot just gotta the pilot of emotion. And so from that point on, there's been a rule in the red Zone overrun the motion. And start. You know it was orbit stuff going back behind and moving around. But it's the same concept. And, you know, I give him a lot of credit because how many people do it No one done in a long time. And so No. He sees it. Dust it off and pulls it out. And I didn't have an answer for you know, the young babies like they kept just like dog ear. Crossley. There's a coach that I had in Dallas in Paul Pasqualoni, longtime coach turkeys and he's only say football is not a casual deal and when guys like jogging to get lined up because they can stop the ball. Your defense is that they don't have to wait on you. It works in his defense it back. I don't think they really felt this sense of Earth. Seven. Thanks, Son. Wait, who's going across like they're moving this guy for a reason? He's their best part. He won the Heisman folks. I don't know if anybody saw that what it cost them behind him. Put your intentions up and say, Hey, he might be getting the ball down here specialist that they got one so Like crude sort a lot. He had a great game plan. You know the guy. You look at his career or Where it was when he left USC and you know he's a magnificent place collar. His players seem to gravitate toward. They play hard for him. And, you know, I wish you the best in Texas, and he was locked in. Do you worry about your offensive coordinator? You know? Get distracted when he has another job. I gotta get a staff. So I was referring class and so it was locked in there. You're a great job of night. He really did Bobby carbon doing a great job as usual. Him on Twitter be carved. Three also hit him up when he's part of the morning. Just 97 1, the fan in Columbus, joining us on Friday, and Fitz Simmons on ESPN radio, the ESPN app and so it's essential 80. I wouldn't go back to what you said about guys jogging. When guys were emotion. How does that happen when you're Ohio State's defense and you're playing that offense, known as Alabama? Well, you know for you. I don't think it's something that you know. It's a lack of attention to detail like Levi, maybe like attention detail, But maybe not a not a lack of effort. It's just Young guy who and I say young, meaning like under the age of 22, who haven't experienced a lot of the yet I guarantee you it will never happen again because I'm trying to stake is like my third or fourth year in the NFL. We didn't play in two decades. Someone pointed out in a coach almost lost his mind because he was a traditional Woz. He's a little order. They started going crazy, and he's like they ran this place. Every other weekend. San Francisco is that you run the motion, and he starts going crazy.

"He's loose midfield. 40 30 25 2010 54 the way for a touchdown. Eggy scoring US 76 Yard rumbled by Giovanni Change. Game was tied 27 27. All of a sudden, It was all all Jimbo Fisher and the Texas and Maggie's Big fourth quarter there to win the Orange Bowl. And this, then picking getting picked fifth in the college football playoff was the best thing to happen to Jimbo Fisher. They're going to go back and look at this season as an absolute unbelievable success. And maybe more importantly, they're going to be able to talk to you. Just one of those players, Katie And say, Man. What if I need to come back next year. We could do something special, something that Nick savings done. And that's why he's had a lot of success in Tuscaloosa, is recruiting his players back for one more year. That probably does not happen. Had they've been selected fourth because they probably would've been the sacrificial lamb to Alabama slaughtering and the first round of the college football playoff, probably so and I don't know who they have behind Kellen Monde. He obviously has an extra year of eligibility. If he chooses to use it, we can come back. But when you look at the production off Jim Bo's offense All of it comes from freshman and sophomore than you and I talked prior to this game. I was so excited to see Isaiah Spiller up close on the field just to see how he performs and attacks the game and unfortunately, he went out with an ankle injury. Oh, my gosh, Given a chain was phenomenal last night. That's why he was the Orange Bowl in BP and rightfully so, like they just have so many guys that can step in. Which reminds you, you know of a top tier team like an Alabama the SEC. But I thought that this was really interesting. After the game wrapped up eight years ago and one day Jimbo Fisher led Florida State in his third season to a 2013 Orange Bowl victory. A year later, the Seminoles won their first national title since 1999. Jimbo, in his third season at A and M just led his team to the 2020 Capital, One Orange Bowl Victor, which I think is pretty cool. We'll see what happens next year's for them. But if they have all these guys return and take Ellen Mon Some of those offensive linemen say, Hey, we're gonna come back to the user. Actually, your village really? I mean, what would their preseason ranking be because they're going to turn so much production. They will be up there. Probably I don't think there's a doubt probably top four Top five. And I think Oklahoma was Spencer rattler in the amount of young talent that they have in Lincoln Riley squad, I think, and that defense sort of like a touch better. They'll experience. I think that they will be a top three team coming up having Alabama I can't imagine them them losing a whole hell of a lot of firepower because you're gonna have Bryce Young. Take it over for Mack Jones when he leaves, And so, Yeah, I think all of those and it's interesting. You said it in the third year is when these teams take off the thing that Texas A and M the question is, do they win? That certain likes like crazy way. Right like that, like, are they as explosive to me like they remind me of a golfer. Who shoots, you know, 71 great round, but they didn't do it with a ton of birdies, right? They did it with they're like, Oh, yeah. You know, I hit 16 greens. And you know what? Yeah, very methodical style of success. And can that style of football win championships in 2020? Frankly, I'm not sure. I think you can have a good season. I'm not sure. In fact, every time I look at a and M It reminds me of Notre Dame. To be honest with you. It reminds me of they play really solid football. But do you have that different level and we've seen it at Alabama? We saw that Ohio State. I just don't think we still would see it takes a in him. You know me? I'm a big sec fan. Okay, leaving right? Breaking news. What crazy? Nobody knew that. Speaking of Notre Dame, I know where a day removed. And so we're late to the semi final party. But do you think Clinton did Notre Dame a favor in the way that they lost that that became the story and you know, the Notre Dame lost Alabama kind of just fell. In the rear view mirror. Yeah, I think I think there was as long as I mean, Listen, it looked ugly for Notre Dame early, right, And there's semi final like that. The first two drives you're thinking, Oh, my goodness. This could be like a Cumberland Gap. Georgia Tech 222 to nothing type score and Notre Dame played solid football. I will say this is it's time to start looking at Clemson being a team that they listen is living up to which It's brand or not living up to his brand. The last two college football playoff games from Clemson. They gave up 630 yards ls you and lost almost by 20, and they ended up giving what 638 yards over to Ohio State, and they just got flat out embarrassed. I mean that that's that's one of the most ill prepared. I've seen a team on a major Um, what a major platform in a long time, like even going back to Florida, Oklahoma. I knew Oklahoma's gonna win that game because Florida just didn't have any juice left in it. But to me to see what Ohio State did to Clemson was nothing short of fantastic. That was his old school bully ball. We're going to take your girlfriend. You're not gonna have anything to say about it, okay? Which I didn't expect or foresee somebody being able to manhandle Clemson quite like that. I thought there was a couple of discrepancies from watching that game number one was speed. I thought Ohio State had a lot more speed out on the field. I thought to the defense of play, of course, because travel. Lawrence was on the run. He was pressured the entire night and then the coaching adjustments I thought Ohio State Ryan Day, and his staff did an extremely good job of making in game adjustments where we didn't necessarily see that from the guy like Brent Venables, who is always touted for being able to do so that did not show up. In that game, and I think that's why you saw the result that you did. So I thought that Ohio State was pretty much flawless and clearly made a statement. After reset on this show, many people have sat on this show. With six games going to be enough. It was clearly enough. Well. It was also Latinos extremely fresh in a team that had a chip on their shoulder for a bevy, different reasons, and they acted like that. And that's why it's going to be a fascinating national championship game coming up here in a couple of days between Alabama in Ohio State And now, of course, the big news is that Steve Sarkeesian, the offensive coordinator for Alabama, taking the Texas job, We'll talk about some of the butterfly effect of that. And also why this weekend in the NFL Week 17 and the 35 different potential wildcard matchups is every even more reason why the college football playoff needs to expand. I'll tell you why. Next Peter Burns, Katie George Best week ever on ESPN.
