Kevin McCarthy Floats a National Sales Tax
"Kevin McCarthy and some House Republicans are floating a new and interesting idea and this is an idea that should not be considered seriously as a proposal that is going to go through and become law. Why? Because as we've talked about in the podcast before, the Republicans control narrowly one house. Of Congress. And in order for a bill, bill is a proposed law to become a law, it has to go through the house, it has to go through the Senate, where it has to also survive the filibuster, it has to pass both houses of Congress and then be signed by the president. Now, normally, there's one more step that should be added. It has to be upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court because these days all important legislation is challenged on the grounds of its constitutionality. So what is Kevin McCarthy's proposal good for? What's its point? Well, I think its point is to put something on the agenda to make it part of the Republican framework, the Republican vision for how to fix America and ultimately the Republican platform in 2024. So this is an idea that is worth considering. It's called a fair tax. And it would abolish the current tax system. Basically, no more income tax. It would abolish an effect the IRS, why? Because the IRS net is needed to administer this rather complex system of taxation we have now. So it would get rid of that. And it would impose an across the board sales tax. So what's a sales tax? Well, a sales tax is sometimes also known as a consumption tax when you buy stuff. You would pay a tax that would be added on to the price of the product. Now, think of the difference between an income tax and a sales tax. And income tax kicks in when you earn the money. So you make a $100 and the government will take ten or 20 or the highest marginal tax rate about 38%. So at the highest level, the government is taking 38 cents on the dollar and giving you basically 62 cents to keep.

"The sun's welcome back Chris Paul and a one 12 one ten victory against the grizzlies. Paul delivered 22 points and had 11 assists in his first game back since missing 7 straight with a hip injury. It was nice to get out there and play. You know, when you come back from any injury, you don't know how I feel until you actually play 5 on 5 and so it was nice to play. He scored 17 while Phoenix was building a 62 37 halftime lead. Mikhail bridges led the sons with 24 points while Torrey Craig added a season high 20. The grizzlies absorbed their second straight law since an 11 game winning streak. John morant led Memphis with 27 points and Desmond bayoneted 24. I'm Dave fairy.

It also signals the likelihood of another refreshing BTC rally after gains of last week. Bitcoin's mvr V breaks above won the breakout coincided with BTC prices surging to as high as 23,300 on Saturday, January 21st, a positive development, especially for optimistic holders. Pray for Mike Gallagher & His Colonoscopy Tomorrow
"Tomorrow's colonoscopy colonoscopy day. Get ready. I'm off tomorrow. Carl Jackson will be in the chair. Guest hosting for me. Always appreciate Carl's work and I tried to schedule I hate missing work. I just hate to miss the show, but there was really no way to pull this off and it was time, and I am a bit the only reason I talk about something as personal as a colonoscopy is that it is such a an effective, efficient, proactive way to keep yourself healthy. I've had two colonoscopies colonoscopies in my lifetime, and in both times, and I'm 62 years old, both colonoscopies I've had, they found precancerous polyps. And cancer has chased me around for many, many years, not for me, but everybody in my life, my mom, my dad, my sister, my wife, many close friends, cancer is a, it's a scourge, you know? It's that the boogeyman that's out there lurking. I mean, I grew up. Watching my dad go in and out of hospital rooms and have to deal with that and my mom's bladder cancer that she had and so, you know, we got to take care of ourselves. And now we have all kinds of tools to beat cancer and to stay ahead of it. And so tomorrow I'll be getting a colonoscopy, say a little prayer if you're so inclined that at 9 a.m. they find nothing in there or if they find those bad boys, they get them out.
Damar Hamlins Charity Foundation Approaching $7 Million in Donations
"I want to give a quick update on the young man demar Hamlin, I don't know why it's so weird for me to say his name. I just don't remember his name doesn't ring in my mind. Like demar Hamlin, it's not like a Ray Lewis or something. It just doesn't ring in my mind. However, his the GoFundMe account, I wish I only go for me, man. God, dang, they bring in the bacon. People, millions of millions of dollars raised over all these platforms, but regardless of that. His GoFundMe is called chasing M's foundation community toy drive. And his original goal was $2500, which is weird as an NFL player. You would think other players would hook you up or something. He ended up raising 10,000, but after this incident, 200, I mean, this is as of, I don't remember when I printed this, but this was like not too long ago that we printed this. Oh, at 9 a.m. this morning. So that was pretty a pretty long time ago. I could probably look up the numbers as of right now, but I mean, he's at 62, $6.2 million raised 205,000 donors. So there's a lot of small donations, and I think the biggest donor was like $20,000 in the course, all the guys in the NFL supported. And I just want to say this because I said this yesterday, but it's been on my heart to say this. It's that God works in mysterious ways. If you can not, if you can not see that this is a God thing, then I think you are not in a position to kiss the blessings of God when they come through.

Aaron Judge is AP male athlete of year after setting HR mark
"Aaron judge has always stood out with his imposing size and muscular frame, and in 2022 he became notorious for his home run hitting streak, judge belted out 62 homers, breaking an American League record on October 5th of this year against the Texas Rangers. I had a good feeling off the bat. You know, I just didn't know where it was going to land or what it was going to hit. You know, there's a good sense of relief once it I saw it landing that fans glove. Upon learning, it got the most votes among 40 sports writers and editors, judge says, wow, that's incredible. Dr. Thomas Krannawitter: Looking at the Story of Slavery
"True or false, America as the greatest or is the greatest antislavery movement country of all time. Absolutely true. That's kind of what I wanted to come and talk about today. One of my purposes in life is to reframe this entire subject of slavery. And I want to get into it with an example, an analogy from the world of sports. Just this past summer, I'm a big baseball fan. And a guy named Aaron judge, he was a baseball player for the New York Yankees. He did something no one in the American League had ever done. He hit 62 home runs in one season. And imagine Lee, if you were telling someone that story, he said, wow, can you believe it? This guy is the first player in the American League to hit 62 home runs in one season. And imagine if someone looked at you and said, why didn't he do that earlier? Why didn't someone else do that before? Why didn't he hit a 102 rather than 62? Why did it take him all season? Why didn't he hit 62 by July? I mean, nobody would respond that way because we're talking about something that is unprecedented. And so we celebrate it. We say, wow, that's a whole new standard of excellence. That's the way I want citizens to look at this story of slavery in the American founding.
Mark Morgan: There's No Downside to Securing Our Border
"You know, just some perspective for the listeners out there, Mark. I mean, you're talking 8000 a day in two weeks. You're filling up the rose bowl. That's right. That's insane. I love talking to you. Look, I've used that word again again. We really are living the definition of insanity. Think about this. And the first 60 days, 62 months of this fiscal year, they've already had 5 and a half million total encounters, and they've had a 160,000 got aways in 60 days at this pace. And with the 12 months, this fiscal year, we're going to have over 3 million total encounters in over a million known got aways just in 12 months. Leave that is insanity. There's no country in the face of the planet that can sustain that. And again, how many murders rapist pedophiles aggravated films in gang members are you okay with being a part of the millions of known goda ways that now call the United States home? This is what this is crazy. It is insanity. There's no downside to securing our border.

Thanks. Thanks a lot, Dan. How you been? I've been well. I've got a you know me. I'm better than anybody. I'm a routine person. And I have a new routine where I'm out in the morning. So I'm usually gone by ten or so. So I do catch a little bit of the show and once in a while there's a day I'm home and I'm eating it and I'll turn it on. So yeah, I really enjoy it and 8, 9 years that was just awesome. How you treat all the colors, but how you treated me and made me feel special and yeah, I was just it was one of the best you guys agree. Okay, so why today that you call? I'm like a moth to light like fritzi I wanted to give him a mock headline. So I'm like, I got to get ahold of him. I was trying early this morning. You know me. So I'm like, I haven't heard this one. It sounds really good, and then Tyler told me Todd's off because of jamp Kapoor. So once before I had something I thought was unique and I didn't really want to go on and I felt, I don't know. And so Tyler said, well, just hold for a little while and see because I don't have to leave till a little before ten. So I appreciate you getting me in. So yeah, that was the reason I wanted to give it Tod. And then I figured I'd throw it out there. Okay. Here we go. Maybe it's out there. And Tyler should know, you don't put Chris and Syracuse on hold. That's what I always liked. I always stayed on whether it was two and a half hours or whatever.

"Questions suggestions, Pauly? Here's one. If you had caught the ball last night, the judge 62 home run ball. Yeah. You have only two choices here. You sell it almost immediately while everything's hot right now. Supposedly there's a standing offer out there for $2 million that you could just accept today. Or you wait 5 years at the minimum and see where the market is for that ball. I would capitalize today. I wouldn't wait because then what happens if somebody breaks that record? But everybody gets caught up in the hysteria and if you buy it, you want to be telling your Friends, hey, come on over, I got the baseball as opposed to 5 years down the road. Hey, remember when judge hit that, oh yeah, yeah. How many did he end up with? Oh yeah, I'm not trying to add 62. Now it feels like the frenzy is at an all time high. I don't know what, but you have information to the contrary. I talked to a sports business slash memorabilia expert. He said a couple of things. You probably don't have to worry about judge hitting 63 today. The odds are just against it. Okay. So that means that 62 will probably stay. The odds of someone else hitting 60 three in the next 5 years are also very low. And then the fact financially, if you sell it this year, let's say you sold it immediately, the tax on that baseball would be 38%. After one year the tax on that baseball go down to 27%, you'd make an extra 11% just by waiting a year. So this person says, it depends on your financial situation, but probably wait. Oh, okay. Wait 5 years, et cetera. Okay. Wait, so you wait a year, and then you gain 11%. Capital gains type taxes. On a specific type of memorabilia. Yeah, you'd make more if you sold in a year. For the same price. Okay. So you'd make another $200,000. Correct. Okay. If it sells for two minutes. And the odds, if you look at the odds, he's not going to hit 63 today. Of course he will, because I just said horse he will. You imagine it though, you got the ball. And I don't know if this guy gave the ball back to Aaron judge. I guess there's conflicting reports. I thought that he did. I think he's a wealth manager guy. Hedge fund guy. He's got some money. And he does now. Yeah. But if you give the baseball back to judge, what do you ask for? Because you can say, look, it's your baseball. But I'd like something in return for this.

"Arguments to be made for both sides are all sides with the single season home run record, but what judge has done is remarkable. So instead of arguing over stats and generations and players who played in different decades, how about we do something different? Well, we get into the weeds here on who's the old time single season home run champ, it's okay. And even if you do, just remember, celebrate. Because it was a remarkable moment for him. And a lot of pressure on him as well. Because there was nobody going neck and neck with him. You know, McGuire and Sosa had each other to be spurred along. Press conferences every day. But judge trying to do it, you're trying to win a division. Now he's trying to go for a Triple Crown, you're a Yankee, trying to do it as a Yankee. Now it becomes bigger than life, but you've bet on yourself, free agency looming. You got the play on us here. Are you going to stay a Yankee? So there was a lot going on. Where pitcher is going to pitch to him. The rangers said they were going to pitch to him. They did. And he ended up hitting the home run. Not to be Debbie downer. Oh no. Here we go. But part of me, while over the last week or two, has been and then last night, again, it hit me like, why are we making such a big deal out of this? Well, because he's a Yankee. I mean, I get all of the reasons that you just laid out. Yeah. But at the end of the day, it's like, you're like, there it is. History has been made. We have a new American League. Home run leader. I mean, it's cool to see. It hasn't happened very often that somebody hits 62 home runs in a season. It's not the record. I think it's because we feel like what we saw was real. That's it. Yeah, but I definitely watch Barry Bonds hit a ton of home runs. I know, but how real was it? Yes, he did hit those home runs. Lance Armstrong won those tour de Frances. Maguire hit those home runs Sosa hit those home runs. But are they real? How real every single one of them?

I think there's some water. I'm just putting it into the ice. It is of course. The hottest day in the uk ever The uk issued their first ever with a warning as now eighty five degrees fahrenheit year. Thus right that's right. Uk listens just different. I he gonna deal with that. Get very fahrenheit justice legitimate celsius. Isn't it get over it. In fact who invented it. I and other answers coming up but yeah i thought. Hey it's been a while since i've done a solo paddle fascinating guests on they've tickled my fancy tickled my balls And so now. I'd rather tickle my own. Bulls is what i thought so here. I am taking mobile's so the first thing that usually happens is in a solo episode is a plan all kinds of things outlook. It's my document will lose things i've planned. And then i go off the rails. And i see who invented which temperature system first fahrenheit all celsius which came first the technology act which came first the foul from hasselt the so fahrenheit Seventeen twenty four. The fahrenheit scale is a temperature scale based on one proposed in seventeen twenty four five physicist daniel gabriel fahrenheit. Am i love. The way he just proposed is like guys this. i mean. we know it's hall but it's actually eighty five me. 'cause i am fahrenheit except he'd be german ya daniel gabriel fahrenheit fudd height a german physicist. Y'all how we name temperature after me. Terrible accident robert. Snap snap cleo speaking of being of german accents though my good friend and friend of the show. Nils henning stare sent me. This fucking insane message. that i have to play you. He's a he's a doctor of philosophy. He educates people. He's also clearly ottey insane. But i digress. So german german coming up for the meantime daniel gabriel fahrenheit about their lives of me. That's how he was measuring temperature celsius. Meanwhile seventeen forty four. Twenty years leah and who was it like was it. Daniel gabriel celsius. Was he like changed name. And i've changed the way i'm doing it. No more eighty s now. We're going to be well who am now. Look for for everyone. who's like. Hey fahrenheit is dumb. Yeah i know. I know my. Uk listeners are going to be saying that. And i know my us listeners. Look so serious. Whatever they want me saying in accent celsius. Oh my god what the fight celsius like. What even as that. That's what they'll be doing. And i know you'll by saying that. So shut up enough with your tribalism okay. They're both just ways of measuring the temperature. And actually it's not hard to change between the two okay. Ninety is thirty. Seventy is twenty okay. That's all you need celsius. One hundred is boiling is two one to for fahrenheit. I mean look do. I need to carry on. Zero degrees is in the to just to just to be clear. I do know. And and obviously kelvin kelvin. "He yeah he could the one he did but the game didn't register it if he got so is off. He returned to game if while he traded it in young. Yeah that's i feel that pain because tales of graces f on ps three. I got the platinum for that game. And it requires you to beat the game Almost i'd say to half times so you go through the whole game which is already like sixty hours getting all this stuff. Then you have to play through the whole thing again you have to reach level two hundred so if you ever think getting to level ninety nine in a game is ridiculous level. Two hundred is a lot further off. Holy shit you have to look at like throughout the game it'll tell you to hit like the select button whatever that's called now and on controllers to bring up like a little cut scene where it's just some dialogue between the characters. There's an achievement to get every single one but the thing is is that they're so easily miserable because you'll see one pop up you walk through the door and when you walk through the door at little cut some can never use say get a trophy for cotton into every character on the game. Eight no for listening to every cut scene so throughout the game. I don't know come up. In the video i saw. It's come up a couple of times it'll show the select button or like a little image. In the bottom left hand corner. You hit the select button. It brings each person's up portfolio picture up Profile picture and it's they have a conversation about what's happening in the game. It happens every time you walk through a door or like something. Somebody says something new enemy for that. He experiences every little bit of dialogue. That's on the game yes there is. There's like something like four hundred of them or something and and if you miss one you don't get it and i've already missed one. I saw i walk by. She added.

Originally was torn between getting this on switch and p c Pc just because obviously i'd be able to get the best resolution and all that kind of stuff but then with these games being as big as they are having it portable switch. It's kind of lake. That will help me. Beat this even faster But it was on game. Pasos like okay. You know what. I'm gonna load this up on xbox I wanted to play this and dragon quest eleven this one only because it was on game pass earlier so i assume that means it will disappear from game pass eventually earlier so probably play this one. I i thought this would be something. I just kind of play in between other games. Because i have to be like so many games a month and everything that keep track with my goal and everything for the year. Oddly enough. this game has kind of like absorbed a lot of my life. Just because as i mentioned in the discourse talking to you guys in anybody else. Who's been in the vcr podcast discord It's like party that you should join. Yes please please. Everyone just go immediately It was it's just like i turned it on and it was like going and visiting an old friend and it just like i had a smile on my face. It just made me feel all warm inside. It's just that type of game where the tales of games haven't changed in so long like i played Symphonia says syria Tales of graces. And now this one and like they're all the same game. He engine changes a little bit. But not that much. The characters are all different. The locations different the stories different. But i mean they all have the same. The same. Approach the ridiculous. Jr pg foggin tropes and stereotypes. Oh my god the amount of times that like somebody will see somebody walk by that go. Is that him. And then somebody be like and it's like sorry never mind and it's like what the fuck stop doing that stop. No one talks like that in real life. I'd like bitch. So what you're saying. It's always just been called bitch bid rich and i was like b thing this thing. This and i've podcasts. With both of you there was two swearing now. I don't believe that i won't believe there was. I think there was too much swearing in a movie that really didn't need much swearing because there is no such thing as too much swearing. Inglorious bastards needed more swearing. No that's a. I'm so happy. You mentioned that. Because i lost my god and that it was a bad it was if tearing tito made a bad romcom Romance movie it literally was just two people arguing on top of the entire. I feel and tearing j. deo made of romance chrome i'm not gonna lie. That sounds awesome. Actually your point if territory though made a made a A love story. It was just two people yelling at each other for almost two hours. I literally at the only say zendaya in a john. David washington did a great job in the acting. Part of this movie and it was not unlike the yeah. Yeah it did it just all my faulk is so i'm going to ask the ultimate question. Then which was worse this or the last air bender fucking allegory. The last air vendor. Because we watch that movie theaters and we paid money to watch it. And don't give me your bullshit outside reasons just as a movie which one's worse technical you paid to watch that movie probably because you probably thought on netflixif something you paid for it now really thinking think you broke. You don't want. I will actually go with the last heir vendor good answer because the nerves here that Malcolm unreal had no source knows source. Material were the last air. Banner had a fantastic source material. Said they saw. It was a bad movie up against a bad movie. That ruined childhood memories. Okay that's one hundred percent logical and all in all fairness when the last winter came out. I was definitely not a chalk hill. That was in my late. Yeah imagine imagine watching the last air better series and then watching the movie now now that you've really enjoyed the animated series. Imagine watching the movie now.

Athletes never gonna give you up. I would fuck and do that. I think if they want to do game. Let's do it but make it fucking weird or make it funny so team america i had. I had this talk with my family about this. That really the national end. The for a lot of countries isn't really the country song so for example for israel the song that people know about is not la la it says i love how you pronounce the song and then proceeded to sing it properly. It's like that's a song for israel for italy. It's the the ones often the godfather taryn tallow. I was call. It doesn't that at that out so candidate. Basically is the hockey night in canada theme. Okay don't either that or you'll have to excuse me. I'm not known. I know it's definitely hockey night. In canada there is no question. I don't know what do you think. Okay but it's like a on sports fan. If you're playing the song the canadians associate the most with our country. It's that yep so would say there's some songs that are like an unofficial national anthem for that and like for india. There's two of them. That i can think of like you guys wanted know that but i'm just saying there's certain songs that's like i don't want to say anything for risk of not being racist anyway so go right ahead. No that's fine no sitting there some like there's some songs that are alike. They're just a.
