It's going to be done in the dead of night without proper hearings. And you know how many pages it is, according to Steve Forbes, I'm going to guess 2500. 10,000 who I underestimated that No. One. It's changing constantly. No one will know what is in it. Uh, every tax you can think of will be raised and the small businesses will be going to have to taxes as I understand, Susan. Uh, seriously. One tax will be on everything that moves and the other tax will be on everything that doesn't move. Yeah, but but small business, you know that have made it through the covid emergency. You're going to nationalize healthcare with Controls, price controls and elections. Exactly. Uh, there's no end to it. This is Well, Steve Forbes, the economist called it a battle for the soul of America. Demoralizing work, you know, according to Larry Kudlow, uh, so much for the work ethic ethic. Everybody will get free stuff. Well, thank you. It won't quite work that way. Some some of some people will get free stuff and the other people will pay for it. And that's what's called socialism. "You recall, uh, 20 years ago, It was a picture Perfect day. Beautiful morning, 8 30 In the morning when I was driving, I kept thinking to myself What a beautiful day And then I heard the radio report and I said It's not such a beautiful day. But this Saturday will be special. Thank you so much, Mike. I'm so glad we were able to share your story on wbz. And and we're going to talk further about 9 11 after we say good night to you, But thanks again. It was really nice to meet you. Thank you. All right. You take care of Mike Mall Way businessman who had a direct connection to the relief efforts the day after. 9 11 20 years ago, and he's very ardent. Supporter of the idea of keeping this memory alive and honoring those who fell, so we'll take a short break and come back. And I think because Mike's story was so compelling, I think would be Kind of interesting to ask the question. Where were you on that day? What were you doing? And what was your reaction If you had any connection, obviously to the events in New York, uh, that would be fascinating to know. But From a human Perspective. It's a question of people always ask. Where were you when JFK was assassinated. What were you doing? We weave those of us who lived through trauma like this are sort of frozen in that moment of time, and it's sticks to your brain. Kind of like a A photograph a series of negatives that just remains stuck there. So I'll share a little bit about me and what I was experiencing, but I'd love to hear from you. 617254 10 30 is the telephone number. Um, And where? "I remember the early days of traffic reporting when I first started in the business and you have a guy One guy is sitting with a pair of binoculars in a in a high rise building, just looking out. Now It's a It's a lot more high tech, isn't it, Dad? Yeah. No, it is high tech. We've got cameras. We've got deals with, um, the D O t where we can access their stuff and vice versa. And we work with TV stations. We have all this technology. It's almost like I feel like we're big brothers. Sometimes you know, we can. We can see everything and we even have a traffic tip line where People can call in and it's not just the regular BZ number. We have other numbers as well that people can call into and it's great because you know, we're getting on the road experience Those binoculars. They're in storage somewhere. Yeah. Save them for your bird watching days like this. All right, so that roof here, So I mean, birdwatching is definitely a possibility. Yeah, just because watch the pigeons, though, because they they leave a mark. Alright. Tell you what Dan, stand by. There's a lot of stuff. I wanna chit chat with you about because this is Fascinating and it's so universal. So here's the question for the audience. 617254 10 30 give us a story about traffic. "To cook a chicken. Tell the thing you have the cooks of chicken dies and then you can go out and buy something else. So I've been careful to not load up the kitchen with gadgets because good How long does it usually take to do a rotisserie? But what cooking a chicken? Yeah. Uh, God, I got to remember. I do have this. By the way. I still have the original cookbook that came with it. The two hour and a half, two hours And I'm not not even now in the rotisserie. Perfect. So tomorrow night. You can go to the broken a chick. Go get a chicken. Yeah. Join the fantasy league. Set your chicken up by the time by the time it's done, your fancy drive should be over. This is fantastic. I was thinking what I could do. If I was hosting the show tomorrow night. I could bring the rotisserie of it in And a chicken and by the time the first hours over We? We'd have rotisserie chicken, and we could share with the listeners What it's doing, You know, that would have been fun. Well, not really. Not really of Rob Brooks. Is it once in Rob, this is only if I do that. If you can call and talk Jordan out of doing the show tomorrow night, we can talk about chicken otherwise. At the pre made one is a supermarket anyway. Can we get back? Wait, We got sidetracked. Fantasy football. You are in a league. I'm in multiple You are in a league of your own true, you unders. No crying in fantasy football either. What's alright? What? What's your drug? Okay, so you're in multiple leagues. What's your draw to being in like all these leagues? Why not just one and done Well, I mean, there's different, different formats, different types. There's all different kind of things. So you know, there's there's your basic year to year ones that you get a new team Every every year. You re draft. There's dynasties where you keep this all the entire team next. The next the following year and so on, And you just dropped the rookies, and there's the keeper leagues where you might just take one or two guys very in depth. This very in depth. When I did the fantasy football 20 years ago or so, everything's 20 years ago, my rotisserie oven my fantasy leagues. When I used to be in the fantasies. It wasn't that complex. It was like Done, Boom. Here you go. Now, People do it also win. Now people do this for work. You got the daily fantasy stuff where people make thousands and thousands of dollars. Some of the experts so called experts and all that kind of stuff, the podcast and everything used to be a time when you just sit down and watch the football game. Shut it off at the end and go have dinner. Well, who does that? Well enough now, you now you've watched the game. Watch your fantasy team dinner all at the same time. Check your stats. Text. Your friend was in the fantasy league with you and make fun of them because they're teams doing terrible talk a little snack. I get it. All right. So football season is just about to start officially, The Patriots start on Sunday against the Dolphins. Mac Jones. You got Mac Jones on your team. I do not. I stay away from rookie quarterbacks. Mm. Bad. I don't know. Maybe not. That's one quarterback league, though, right? Yeah. See, I would I got to agree with you if I if I were in a fantasy league I don't want to give you my tips in case I end up in one well already drafted, so go ahead. I I would. If it was a two quarterback league I would take like a, you know, a season two player, but I love that Mac is like my back up for a second or, you know, put him in now. Especially now. You know, he's the starter, right? He's gonna look, He's gonna make mistakes, obviously, but he's also going to throw. He's the guy throwing the ball. He should every touchdown the Patriots get via the air is probably going to come off his arm. I would think so much unless you get the occasional Jacoby Meyers. I suppose Julian Edelman is not there anymore to throw touchdown passes, but I'm just saying so, so he's going to get your points, but I guess not as much, but you don't think Patriots are going to rely on him as heavily. The Patriots have a great Russian attack this year. The running backs look like they're going to be awesome and like it's one of the best position groups on the entire team, so I think they're gonna vulture. A lot of points had Cam Newton last year who had 12 touchdowns from like Inside the five rushing. You got to think those are all going to go to the running backs, for the most part that they're going to take someone, and I just don't Think that they're gonna You really utilized Mac and ferret out like crazy this year, but he stole a rookie start. A lot of there's gonna be some. There's going to be some bumps in the road. Alright, Well, listen, if you're excited about football, starting or if you're in a fantasy league, or you have a question for our resident expert fantasy footballer Dan Watkins. You can call us at 617254 10 30. What the heck right down to like the last 12 minutes of the show. I'm not going to be on again until after football season starts for sure. So this is a great time. Yes, absolutely. Talk some smack. Sure. How do you come up with a name for a team? Usually you do something generic. You know, like you do you do your name like Dan's? Well, that's like the default and just go like Dan's doughnuts or something. Dan's dazzling team is what, like Yahoo! Our ESPN will come and they love the alliteration to start. But then then afterwards you might get a player and you might, you know, kind of Name it after the play, even after the player. So if you had, uh, like Cam Newton Which would you name it? Well, there was like back in the day when he always did the Superman celebration. If you have something, Superman based candlelight plan, you know, then there's like, like some people would do like events will fork one like will fork in the road. That kind of thing. Oh, I see what they did their little pond. Whoever alright? If you want to talk fantasy football or not, you can call up in bashed and anything you want doing the news tonight He was everything. 617254 10 30 Counting down the moments here. "This week. I have no idea what he's doing is don't ask, but I am Ben Parker filling in for Dan. Typically, you can hear me from 2 to 6 in the afternoon doing the news here on WBZ and we had a fun filled action packed night and hoping that you will join in to take us home. 617254 10 30 Covid. We talked about Covid the new move variant that is come about I mentioned earlier. I don't know how we jumped from because I I do news so clearly, you know, I I should have my finger on the pulse, right? We went from Delta to move like like overnight and that skipped a whole bunch of Greek letters in the alphabet. I did a little research gather or some other variants out there. They stole those names, and they didn't really make much of an impact. So let's just curious when I heard Hey, we're on. We're on Move area. Wait a second. Don't know the Greek alphabet by heart. But I know that Delta and move are not right next to each other and no, they're not. So we can talk about that. Or back to school. Kids are masking up to go back to school. Did yours have to? Are you worried about it? Are you worried that they're going back to school? Maybe too soon? Maybe not soon enough. Whatever. We talked about space to if you don't talk about space. Peter King is a fascinating guests. CBS correspondents been covering space since the mid nineties and in the space since you know he was born. Really, uh, knows a lot. We could have a lot of fun with that. So if you wanna talk about space, maybe something you witnessed in the space program or maybe something you're hoping will happen. In space. Let's go to Lowell. Hello, Mary Lou. Goodbye, Heart. Where she where she go. Mary Lou, come back. Hi, Ben. Hi, there. Um, train. I don't know what you look like. But I'm trying to picture you with white plant and you need to send them back to where you bought them. No white paint. No, I can't wear white pants. No, absolutely not a man with white pants. No, no, no, no, no. No. But you see, this is where you see 50. Yeah, like beings in the fifties. I get you here. Here's the thing. And the funny thing is, and you don't really know me, which is fine, And I'm glad to tell you about myself. Not what I look like, Necessarily. But, uh, I actually it's funny because I bought the white pants. For the exact reason that you're telling me I shouldn't wear them because I know that I shouldn't wear them, but I want to wear them so people will go. Why are you wearing those white pants? I'm just curious if it's if I can wear them a couple days after Labor Day because I was laid up for a few weeks. No, You can't with them at all at all. But you said your wife doesn't like what? Not My life doesn't like anything I pick out because I'm a guy. I don't blame her. I don't blame her not to even my P and then, like, seriously, I can't even believe you would buy a clear awake. She couldn't either. I did get him on sale, So that's a plus right? How it is it now? They're trying to get rid of that. Well, he did. They got rid of one pair to me. Yes, exactly. That's why they put them on sale so they can get rid of them. Because men just don't wear white appeared just like a man wearing white shoes. Hello. All right. Well, I guess I'll put the white shoes back to Alabama. How about a white hat? Like why don't just dress all in white? What's the difference? I'm dying. No, no hat, no boots. You've just you blew up my entire wardrobe for tomorrow. Mary Low. All right, I'll take I'll take sorry as they seriously somebody will shoot at you or something or honest to God. As I said to yourself, as they say, I will take it under advisement. Okay. Someday you'll grow up like you just said no wrong. All right, Mary Lou, I love listening to you, though. You sound like a cool guy. Oh, I am going to be cool wearing those white peers. I'll tell you that. All right? I'm a little sad, but thanks, Mary Lou. All right, Well, there's one I guess I got to keep score. Rob. We've got to keep score. That's one against the, uh, the white pants. Let's go to Linda in Ipswich. I have no idea if she's calling about pants or something else, But she's on Nightside. Hi there. Linda. Hi, John. Hey, guys. You're willing to wear the white pants even against your wife's objections? Well, yeah, well, especially against her. Why do you need of strangers? Approval? Come on, get a little bit of self confident. That white thing not where you have to Labor Day went out in the 19 forties. All right, was it was there in the forties? As then decades since they dropped that, all right Where your white bad, All right, All right. There's one. All right, Linda. I appreciate that again. I will take that under advisement. Although I feel like I feel like you don't like the white pan idea. You're just saying I could wear them. No, no, I love so I dance have a little bit of self competence. Go down to say Hey, look at me. I just taken a thumb in your eyes. I'm gonna wear my white pants. Do it. All right, well tomorrow, then we break out the white pants. There you go. Alright. Enjoy yourself. Thanks, Linda. Okay, Bye back. I I didn't know that the white pants thing would be the big topic tonight, but apparently it is. I did buy a pair of white pants. I bought them late, man. Yeah, I was gonna say late June early July sometime in that range, I bottom because they're white pants. And I thought, Hey, white pencil. Be cool. My wife said those will not be cool, which made me want to buy them even more. So now I got this pair of nice white golf pants. Uh, you know, they're stretchy. They, you know, they breathe whatever still have the tags on it. I guess I could bring them back. Except I think the store I bought him that's out of business. Anyway, so I I just was kidding around a little bit. I do you know, let's after Labor Day. I thought there was no rule. I don't know. What do I know about fashion? I'm a guy in my fifties. I just heard Labor Day. Can't wear white anymore. Maybe that's wrong. I don't know. Lorries in Montana on nightside. Hi, Laurie. By a great show tonight. This is very refreshing. Thank you. This this this tide, Bucker says. Just go ahead and wear them. First of all, they're not like press women. Not coming from Miami. But if anybody gives you a hard time just telling you stepped off the plane from Florida. I could do that. I was I was thinking, uh, I got a nice, uh, light blue shirt golf shirt. Maybe that would go with it. Maybe I could even throw on like I got a very light. When I say light like it's not. It's not heavy, like for winter. It's a very light spring kinda dress jacket. And maybe if I did that, and kind of pulled off the the Rico suave, maybe put the hat on, like control. I could do that. And then the white pants wouldn't like. Look as obvious they'd be like, Oh, this guy is really dressed weird instead of just my parents. Yeah, stop. We'll do our white pants. A big deal in Montana. People were white Pence in Montana alone. You know? It's want to people. Where would they want to wear half of the more short fall winter so I don't want to go. I don't want to stereotype Montana and by the way, Montana is probably in my top. Five states. I'd love to go visit for a like a while and and and explore the joint. And I don't say that because you're from Montana. I just say that because it's true. I'm actually from New England. I moved out here 10 years ago. Oh, God bless you. But I I I don't mean to stereotype, but I kind of felt like Montana's like a blue jean kind of place. Really very much as there are. The pockets of cowboys are also professional pockets, too. But I can't say that I've seen maybe on the golf courses in the summer..

"Ray tonight on Nightside, where Space cowboys talking a little bit about space here with CBS correspondent Peter King. He's been covering the space games since the mid nineties. Or so. It has been a fan of space for, uh, well, pretty much his whole life. I don't want to put words in his mouth. But this is kind of a love affair, and I think, of course you you are in the media. So you had a way to, I guess, do more with space and be the reporter at all. But I think a lot of people Like I said, I was too when they when Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon, But I think a lot of people who grew up in that era and certainly if they watched the you know the landing on the moon, and we're into it. I don't know There's an affinity for space travel because they were there. Watching it from the beginning. Sure, And I think a lot of people have this dream of boy. Wouldn't it be kind of cool to go walking the moon or go see the earth from 300 Miles up or well to quote Captain Kirk from the first Star Trek movie? You know to go out there? Out there by the way out there First Star Trek movie. Worst of all of them, but that's uh, that's that's for a movie review. Show up, you know, but the second one, you know, rap Akane. That's a home run right there. And then it only gets better. But we're not talking space movies tonight, which we could We are talking about space. Peter King is with us. We're going to get to get a news break coming up in a couple of minutes. So I don't want to get too deep into anything. But we have the beginning of space, which, of course, uh, you know, and and it's it's not when President Kennedy said to land on the moon. I mean, there was stuff being done Even before that famous we'll land on the moon speech, and now we get to we landed on the moon. We beat the Russians there and then, uh, we kind of petered that out. And then we got the space as you mentioned. You know, we have the space shuttle which people got into and then we had a couple of disasters, which, of course, were terrible. And then space kind of. Mm. And now we've got we've got billionaires who are like, Hey, what are you doing this weekend to go to space? I mean, it's kind of weird. The circle. We've come here even though NASA still involved, um, where we're going in space has taken a turn from All government funded and now you've got, you know, billionaires having fun with it or at least but think about but think about how aviation got started. You know, Aviation started very, very small and then all of a sudden to turn into a very big commercial enterprise. Of course, it was much sooner for aviation than it was for space. It's taken almost, you know, 70 years for first space to turn into an entrepreneurial thing. Where is commercial Aviation was in its infancy. Really? Within 20 years, 30 years of the Wright brothers and you got and then we're going to take a break. But we got Branson and bezoza and musk all wanting to get to space, and it looks like we may be down to it Looks like maybe a one man race here. We'll have to see we'll talk about that. And more. Peter King is with us. You're with us. We'll take calls to if you want to talk about your memories of space 617254 10 30 Ben Parker in for Dan Ray on nightside. It's nightside.

I didn't know who is being chased by just recently and I know this case from a long time ago where the guy turned around fires like 15 to 10 or 15 shots. Because he didn't know who was chasing him. He No. He knew exactly who was chasing question. I'm sorry. He's off the phone now, but I had one question for him. Sure, Good thankful. One. That was Jesus. I really thank them guys, for sure following their pride when they hold up the right hand and say, Yeah, I'll do this. You know, Larry, I'm sure I'm sure is listening, man. And I'm sure that he that he heard you know Europe and Gloucester and hopefully you don't have too many scenes like this. But this judge, she has made some strange decisions. She ended up Ah, and she she was looking at the partners deal, and she had to actually apologise to, um former attorney General Martha Coakley, who she I guess eviscerated in court. Uh, then, um, Then she had another case where she dismisses a Mattapan murder conviction. Against the guy who basically shot and killed Guy on Newbury Street Back in 1971. I happen to remember that case. Um, the case was the case of a fella named John Lobb Anara. And he had just grabbed. He had just passed the bar in October of 1971 and had had been out celebrating with some friends. Went, um to his car got into his car and somehow some way this guy, I guess who shot him and killed him thought he had been disrespected by him. And so he's been in jail for a long time. My next question was for the policemen there by returning there. Why? He says union allow these judges to get away with it. Well, the problem is that in Massachusetts and you know again, you do you do lawyer ringing? You do all that stuff. Why does it his union? Why don't tell union I'm great friends. These castaway now a democratic judge, But there's some Democrats. I can talk to that and nice. He's passed away now. Well, no, no, don't give me my voice because the throat cancer so Italian part No, There were no question What the man Dan White on his union. Have any link any ability to deal with these Um, walk judges. Here's the deal, man. He just see, you know, First of all, there are great judges and good judges. Most judges are very good judges and a lot of them. They're all appointed in Massachusetts. By the governor, and this particular judge was first appointed to the bench by Bill Well, the Republican And she was promoted to superior Court by um Jane Swift. A lieutenant, a lieutenant governor who was an acting in, uh she's a Republican. This judge is appointed initially by wealth and then secondarily by By Jane Swift. So this is not a Democratic judge. Um and look, I know a lot of judges who are great judges, but but this particular judge I followed her career pretty closely and she's made some very questionable decisions. Now. That's what judges can do in Massachusetts because they were appointed for life. Um, they can only be removed not because they're bad judges, but because they do something illegal. I'm not trying to speak on behalf of the patrolman manned the guy or the woman. Yeah, I'm trying to speak on behalf of their union. Their union have anything? Well, The only thing that the only thing the union can do is endorse, uh, political candidates, Uh and and in this case, whoever is the governor, so when someone runs for governor, and they say, Well, I'm going to appoint really tough Laura no to judges, and they appoint people like Janet Sanders. Well, yeah, it's not a good result Down 300 down on lesbian now. Yeah, That's what he said. So that makes it tough. And of course, there's there's more overtime anyway. Hey, I gotta scoot here. Manny. I appreciate your call. Hope you feel better. How you doing pretty well. Or, you know you sound good. I know. You said that you're dealing with some throat issues. Bona judge issues a decision like this. I don't understand it. I wasn't in the courtroom. I will admit to that, and I've often said you've got to be in the courtroom, however. They have such great shells and programming by Dan Ray in Boston Ambassador. I'm curious. Uh uh, kind of a two part or one is because in the Knesset, the vote was so close. Is Netanyahu's team going to pursue legal avenues? No. Um Netanyahu, who has and leads the largest party in the connected with 30 of the 120 seats, has accepted the new government and will be the leader of opposition. He didn't deny the vote counting and he accepted. The results of the results of the election. Uh he felt that there was the coalition that was brought about was a problematic coalition, but he definitely will not go to court about the formation of this coalition. Okay. And lastly, Ambassador, uh, President Prior, President, President Trump put together a legal rather a in an Arab and Israeli coalition or some type of Um, team together to, uh, to help help with peace in the region is it's your cheer knowledge is that's still being continued with the Biden presidency. Yes, Of course it is. First and foremost. We definitely think that the wonderful things happened over this past year as well as some less wonderful things. And I think that the The development that started with the Abraham accords of the previous administration will definitely be strengthened. We'll do our utmost to make sure that the Gulf states, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Sudan Continue with the with the agreements that have been signed, and we are hoping that we will be able to enlarge this process with more countries in the Middle East. And I think that this is very, very important both for Israel standing in the Middle East and for peace in the region, Yes. Yes, sir. Knight, we we support you, sir. And we got blessed como with him. "And this is something that both I think, uh Mr appeared. And, of course, Prime Minister Bennett feel that they have to do I'm sure that you know there are focuses her and, uh, this new government coalition feels that Israel but make sure that the bipartisan understanding of the state of Israel continues to be a strong as it used to be in the history and bring everybody back on board to support Israel's focus and its needs in the Middle East. And as you did say, We are the ones who live in the Middle East and have to deal with some of these neighbors who are definitely not very friendly neighbors. And so yes, we do have a major problem on our hands. But it's not something that has changed that That problem continues to exist. And I think that the new coalition government understands this exceedingly well and you know, President Biden spoke to Prime Minister Bennett and the secretary of state. Blinken spoke to, uh, our foreign minister, Mr Lapid, and I think that we will be seeing. Um uh Both high level Israeli delegations in Washington, and most probably high level American delegations in Israel and not too distant future. I mean, This is something that we have always seen. I think we're going to continue to see it. We are a steadfast ally of the United States, and I think we will continue to be. And this is, uh something. That has nothing to do with whichever government is in Jerusalem or whichever government is in Washington. Well, well, well said. And and and I again I realized that as the diplomat, you represent your government, and it just seems to me that, um, the prime minister was an It was an extraordinary speech yesterday. So I did want you to respond to a couple of those those comments, But what I'd like to do is Get our call is involved and also get a sense of, um how much we talked when American presidents are elected. They get a honeymoon period in this country where for the most part, Not always. But for the most part, everybody says, Well, let's see how good a job they can do. Will this be a typical transition of power in a traditional honeymoon period in Israel? Or does Israel have that honeymoon period? Because obviously, elections can be called at any given moment. There's no that is correct, then elections can be called if the government doesn't pass. Uh No confidence vote, but it is a Democrat democracy and we saw yesterday Benjamin Netanyahu get up off the seat that he has been sitting on for some 12 years of Israel's prime minister through the different governments and walk To the seat of the leader of the opposition and sit down in it and the leader of the opposition who was until yesterday, Lapid walked over to the table of the government, which sits in the middle, and he sat down with the government stable. So yes, this is democracy at work. Israel is the great democracy. Israel is a very special democracy, and I will continue to say the only democracy in the Middle East. And I think that this just goes to show both the makeup of the government and the fact that this is something that is possible. And this is what happens in all democracy, So yes, it is slightly different. And there are not six times that, of course, the government supposedly, uh, if there are if it doesn't fall can continue until, uh 2025. But we'll have to see how things how things progress, of course, but I definitely think that what we have here is a wonderful festival of democracy. Whereby people from different parties different focuses of getting together and trying to start a fresh and get things moving. Yes, well, well said. Of course, we need to remember that in the 73 year history of the state of Israel, there have been many transitions of power from one point of view to another. So this is not the first. Uh, who is the he benefits the Israel 13th Prime Minister and there have been 36 governments. So So? Yes. You have had a lot of changes in the period. Absolutely. We're going to we're going to take a break. A little news at the bottom of the hour. 617254 10 30 Triple 8929 10 30. My guest is Israeli Ambassador Ron Rubin. "We appreciate it, man. Be well, Don't you have a good night? You two take care That's ah. The young man who was there recently. But we've talked already in this hour with people whose relatives were there in In The early 19 forties, the late 19 thirties. Certainly the fifties and the sixties, when America's been at war. Let's go next here to Tony in Ohio, and it's always great to welcome you, Tony, welcome. Hi, Jordan. Hi, I'm I'm very lucky. I don't know anyone who was killed during any of the wars. My dad was in the Navy. And from I think from 1942 to 19 forties. Five or 44 something like that, and he served as a radio man on P T boat. And he he didn't talk about it very much. So I don't know what happened. If something of course course horrible things happened with your firing and getting fired back at But his skipper was named and he was in the Nixon administration cabinet someplace. I think he might have been the attorney general. I'm not sure. Are you familiar with the name? John Mitchell? Oh, my God. Of course, he was famous. Infamous during the Watergate. Today's Yes, he he was my dad Skipper. No kid during that. Yeah, And anyway, he didn't talk about it much, but I remember one particular time He and I were driving down the cemetery. Am He stopped it. Soldiers where the soldiers section was, and he said, You know, a lot of my classmates that I graduate with were buried there. And that's about all he'd say about the war. He didn't say much about it. And like I said, I want to thank all the service men and women for serving. And Memorial Day started out being called Decoration Day, and it's It's got now is this day to serve everybody or is it kind of moved to the soldiers now? Because the day for the soldiers, Veterans Day is really November? The 11th. But this has gotten more toward the military. Now. Veterans Day was originally Armistice Day. It signified the end of World War, one that quote war to end all wars. Wasn't quite the case. But then it morphed into veterans Day, which I think is appropriate. And and then you're right. It was decoration Day for the longest time. Um actually, and I bread something today, which was fascinating that It was freed slaves in 18 66 and 18 67, who began the practice of saluting and memorialize ng those troops to freed them. So I mean, that's how far back the idea of any ideas, not anything new people been the moralizing their fallen heroes since time began, But but, yeah, I think It's it's important to remember those who serve in serving the line of duty and face death upon doing Internet would have to include You know anyone who serves in the armed forces. But even I would say our police officers who You know, our our armed but are also facing whatever they're facing. And I'm not getting political here. I'm just saying, General, they certainly have to be remembered as well. Yeah, my father was a policeman for 25 years. And so I Kind of know what that's all about. Is that why you behave yourself so well, whenever you call? I don't know. I just I'm just tired of people picking on me. So I'm Oh, great. My You can come here any time and we won't pick on. You will salute you, Tony, my friend Now you don't need to do that. All right. Well, I'm saluting out. You can do it every once in a while. All right, You take care. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This is WBZ. 617254 10 30, the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's obvious if you know anything about being alive and being an American, But does it feel different? This year's there are slight. Not slight. Is there a noticeable return? Feeling for our fallen or is it just me noticing it in my neighborhood? I don't know. Ian said he was at the common Boston Common, Of course. And the National Guard. People put out 100 thousands of small flags. As a tribute, and it's pretty breathtaking..

"I'll be here one more night tomorrow night and I want to say thank you for the opportunity. It's always thrilling and exciting and fun and interesting. And I learned a lot. So thank you again. The phone numbers 617254 10, 30 or triple 8929 10 30. And for those of you want to connect with me going. Certainly my website Jordan rich dot com. I have a new book out that I'm really proud of. It's called on Air. My 50 year love affair with radio and all proceeds benefit Boston Children's Hospital, So I invite you to check that out as well. So this got my attention it made a bit of news is well representative Emanuel Cleaver. Sounds like a nice gent. The name like Cleveland might have. Ah, Father named Ward and a mother. Never mind anyway. He closed the congressional opening prayer, which is Ceremonial, and it's done regularly by Congress. People and And by chaplains and so forth. It marked the swearing in of the 117th Congress. What was interesting about the prayer was thean ending, and I think it makes more sense to just play it and let you hear it. And then we'll talk about it. Rob, we ask it in the name of the monotheistic God. Right and God, known by many names by many different faiths. Hey, man. And a woman. Okay? Amen. And a woman. Before I talk about the amen part. It should be. If it's amen, and you're making a pun. It should be a women. It's always bothered me, by the way the woman women thing, it's women, plural woman singular, but that's not the point. The point is the word. Amen. Is synonymous with religious activity because it has nothing to do with gender. Amen does not mean a man or several men. Amen is based on the Hebrew on main, which sort of relates to the word truth. And it's um, a celebration of awareness of understanding. At the close of a prayer. I mean, you know how many people in our audience know what I'm talking about, Everybody No, the congressman Suggested later. I guess that he was making a pun because the outgoing chaplain is a woman. But it didn't sound like there was any. It's a strange place to throw upon and I throw puns everywhere. Amen. A woman. Um And I just thought Oh, my gosh. Is that the way we're going to start 2021 with Adam logical disaster. Like that. And I was doing a little research into dumb things that politicians say See if I can find this year. And and, of course, everybody's playing with gender terms, of course, but the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, politicians say. Let me go Find it again. I got to see if I can quote this. Um, let's see might have been the one where a particular congressman I forget where he was from was interviewing a general one of our military. About I think Guam, the island of Guam and putting a base or adding Armaments to the island, and the politician said something to the effect Well, if we put too much weight on one side of the island Won't the island tip over. Remember that one folks. Some things that politicians say. Um, So that's the one that really stands out. But this one today, the Amen and a women Man, that's that's right up there. Um And there was so many examples of that, anyway. I just thought I'd pass that along. So we were earlier talking about more important issues than a men and a woman and that, of course, deals with the election and also with the vaccine. We talked in the early portion of our one on night side about The idea of vaccine core comprised of college age students. In the health care area and other areas to help support the effort. That was a very positive idea brought up by the U mass folks and I heartily endorse it. And then we started talking, of course about the election and Trump and the famous now phone call between Trump in the secretary of state. And we've had a lot of reaction on both sides of the aisle on all sides of the aisle. But if you're like me and you believe That we can always do better. We can always improve the election process and we have to really focus on the election process going forward, But the election is not going to Go the other way and be overturned. There's too many wheels in motion, and there is just isn't enough hard evidence. And do I think the president was criminal and his phone call suggesting Go find me the 11,000 votes? No, He just says a lot of stuff and it comes out. The way it comes out. But I do believe he's grasping at straws here and is kicking and screaming to the finish line. Um But it doesn't suggest for a second that we can't do better. That was my thought on the subject. You may disagree. Let's go to some phone calls. 617254 10 30 Glen. My goodness. I was waiting all week last week for you to call And there you are. Yeah. I do, and I'm not 12. When I put the night you had any craft the kind I wish you had told me. I called two hours over here and I would have called back she was, said Glenn. You know, it's always with Glenn. It's always Inside baseball stuff. He's my favorite person. I understand. I understand what? Well, we'll definitely alert you when I have a certain person on anytime in the near future. What What's on your mind tonight? Know what's on your mind tonight, Glenn Who, uh On the trump thing. I do believe if you in your mind believe that you're right. You have a right to fight to the bitter end, and I wish to God that Trump would inflict vote, the Insurrection Act and do milk, limited martial or conference. Kato's machines also convenient. Immediate software machines go inside those things final with the what's inside them? You realize what you're saying? Right? You you want him to use the military? Yes, to to, uh Yeah. Invoke some kind of martial law. Do you know how that would go over? Yeah, I know it would. It would take off food. The typical suspects black lives matter and antifa. And they'd be throwing you and at the cops. I mean, thank you. Guard. I get that you have the kind of uprising that you haven't seen since. I don't know when, but that's that's what you're you're gonna pick up. What? You believe it. I know I'm not gonna apologize..

Radio 10 30, our number two Of the Morgan show. I've been fortunate. Everybody said it will never happen. And I kind of believed a lot of people when they say they're not gonna bring you back, But they brought me back. I've been back for a month. I've done some Dan Ray filling. And my own show hurts Saturdays nine to midnight. Therefore I'm back. And comfortably. I think I'm back. For a solidly good Long time. Now. I'm looking at Thank you, Andrew. I'm looking at Group photo. All the Boston Kid show hosts. This was a group picture taken Where? Also Oh, and Captain Bob and Big Brother Barb Memory and major Mind and Miss Jean. We're all at Ze Special promotions fundraiser. And Rex is right there. And next to that photo. Is a photo. That was taken that Rex is birthday around five or six years ago. And Rex is sitting wearing his white Hatton. Cowboy jacket and In my black hat, holding a microphone and Rex and I did. Something together, and I also did trivia at this event. And that's gonna be the basis of this hour. I've got Mike Bavaro, Who's the caretaker of Oh, materials owned by REX Trailer. And Mike, I want to tell you about something. I got on the phone today. Now is this phone number I have for you a cell phone number. Yes, it is. Morgan. Well, how did he make you New year? Happy New year. I'm gonna see if this photo Can be sent to you. This is from a TV guide and circa 56 57. And it showed Rex and Sue. The morning show they did. And was His head in her head. Over animated bodies. And if you haven't seen it By sending it to you. We're giving you a chance to see it. Have you seen this? From Rex is archives. Yeah, I think I have seen it. Um, And I know we talked about this, um, because you had her son on last week, and, uh, I've been digging through the archives. And trying to find something. But there's so much stuff. Oh, I know there is. Yeah, it's unbelievable. Did you ever find my photo? It's in the book. It's in. Yeah. The Bulls are both. Excuse me, the boom town book. Right? Yeah, it's in black and white in the book. And I'm looking for color. It was color would when I sent to whomever, However many years ago it was right, just like they have their work. Go ahead. Yeah, that was that book The boom town years by surely powered jump, And that was before I met Rex. And it was funny because that Christmas, my brother and I each bought a copy for each other. And little did I know I would be spending the last 10 years of his life with him and Collecting these archives, which at the beginning, I said, where all the old shows because you know, people ask all the time. Work with his daughter, Gillian and trying to preserve this stuff, and people think there's like an archive, with every episode filed away. And people say you have the episode when I was on company with the Cub Scouts in 1968. And it's the same thing. Rex told me When I asked him, he said they're out in the Easter because everything was live. And very little was saved, or if they did tape, they would tape over it right. And one of the tapes that did survive was the final episode from New Year's Eve of 1974, and that is now in the archives at the Paley Center. In New York City, the museum of Television and Radio. And that's located in Brooklyn. Is it not? Well, I It was in midtown. It was right near Rockefeller Center, and when we premiered the boom town film on WBZ. We flew Rex down in the helicopter. And had another screening at the museum at the time, and then we did a talk. Terry career came up who played Cactus Pete and when we did a Q and a with an audience And, um and you know that was like They knew he was a legend, because when I called them, I said, How do you put somebody into the into the museum? They said, Who is it? And I said Rex trailer, they said, Oh, he's a legend and Children's television. I said, Oh, did you grow up in Boston? She said no. Rex trailer was one of the first. Host for a national Children show on the Duma network. And so he was. You know, this was in 1947 when television was in its infancy. And so We brought the broadcast master down there played it with commercials and everything. And then that became part of their archives along with what other whatever other elements we had at the time, which was like some two inch rials. Some 16 millimeter footage. And because Rex didn't have any of the shows. You say? Well, I have this other stuff and he came up from the call it the gold mine and he would come up with cans and cans of 16 millimeter film. That was used on the show like he would go and film a segment like it. The Necco Candy factory. Yes, that's a famous porn age. Yeah, And that's some of the treasure that's in there, because a lot of this stuff we've seen on boom town and then never seen again. And all the film is clean. Some of it's in color. Most of it's in black and white. But it's just stuff of iconic Boston and New England of the time. That's just like a time capsule. So even though it was on boom town, he was covering subjects of the area and beyond. And finding your stuff Where any of the commercials live Commercials. I know when he would do a hostess Twinkie commercial. That was life. Yeah. Yeah, And there's some beautiful color footage of him doing an outdoor show across from WBZ, and he's doing like the snowball commercial. But there's no sound..
