"To toe with the dodgers with the padres but fifteen games just make you say i wanted to go to san francisco stats here to see helping the numbers talking so the batting side you know some of these guys are baton over three hundred like you said buster posey's poses back three thirty three stephen back three. Oh nine and that's what it takes you know even the ones that are over three hundred way. Junior is back. Three to seventy at longoria. There's another big name back to eighty donovan. Solano at second base batting to seventy so. When you've got four or five guys to seventy and up that makes a difference that means you scoring runs and they're going to frisco they're going to cross a plate and remember. I said that run differential. Plus they're winning. They're play runs on the board in their pitching coming through. So let's hear it for your san francisco giants. If you go to san francisco go check out the giants. Because they're in first place. They've been a shock. And a pods dodgers. Playing good bob at not as good as the giants. They are by swab. Your best surprise team in the in the national late now. Why we're in the national league. This terror tension. They're not the only ones. I think that the biggest surprise by all means but they're not the only team that we're going to cover here because a al east things are starting to shape up and there's a team in the in the in the a. l. East that is starting to rise above everybody else in. That's right yes. He's a new york. It's those mets those miracle. Mets sixty nine spread the news new york i lice clock kind of a thing if your mouth new evening new york insisting to us twenty twenty three six games above five hundred which might not be the greatest the dirty division interesting about their division. They're in the division stacked with talent not been able to rise above five hundred hundred ton intel in philadelphia and washington but these teams are all white hundred but all of a sudden the mets are starting to start To get above five hundred seventy three in their last ten games church out there the only team in their division that has a positive run differential. It's only eleven eleven without me. Their wing one run games and their national league american leads. You're going to have a lot more one. Run games in the mets are winning one run games and so they've got a three and a half game lead. That's that's pretty good to.

Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies to meet at Citizens Bank Park

"Shortened 60 game season last year. Baseball returns to the full slate of 162 games. The Braves Open in Philly today is W S. B. J Black reports. There's unfinished business. Atlanta's rebuild its rotation with the additions of Drew Smiley and Charlie Morton, who quickly see the Braves formula. So good dudes that just buy into what's going on. It's very rare professional sport where you have so many different guys that they all like each other. And Freddie Freeman anchors and elite line up with Ronald Akunyili, while Max Freed gets his first opening day start, was excited. Something that you dream about something that you work for top prospect. Christian Pasha is also rookie of the Year candidate. NBA players planning vote on whether to start season on Dec. 22 or Jan. 18

"A and Players association could vote this week on when next season will began a couple of scenarios they are looking at. According to the athletic number one of 72 game season that begins December 22nd. What the finals wrapping up near the end of July or Option two. 60 game season that begins January 18th 60 games with the finals, wrapping up near the end of August. You Khun Better believe what the N BA owners are looking for here. They want to capitalize on his many games as possible, and certainly that Christmas revenue is a big deal. Some of the players, especially those who were in the bubble are saying we just got done. Can you give us a little bit of a break here mentally physically beat up. They'd like to start closer to Martin Luther King. I can't believe they want to compete against the Olympics. Either. America watches the Olympics for like, three weeks in the middle of that season. If the NBA's still going on, that doesn't seem like a good move. It does seem strange that the only players that perhaps want to play as soon as possible are the teams that were no part of the gavel in Orlando, because they've been off since March. Yeah, so they're ready to go.

World Series 2020: Los Angeles Dodgers & Tampa Bay Rays set for Fall Classic

"Is just simply one of the best baseball writers in the world, and it's a pleasure to have him. Also, Of course, we watch him on TV all the time. And it's just a pleasure to have Tim on to talk baseball, especially when it's the World Series in this crazy year that Covert 19 shutdown spring training labor unrest through the whole thing in doubt in the summer, and then we played 60 games with seven innings and runners on second, and it all winds up in Arlington, Texas, with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Dodgers. So, Tim out of all that weirdness. We have a pretty darn good matchup. Good morning. Welcome back to the morphine, Max. How you doing, Tim? I'm well, fellas. And yes, we have a great match up. We have the two best teams going up against each other, which is how it's supposed to be. And the games have been awfully good so far to Elsie Esses or really good and I have no reason to think the world. Siri's won't be great because it will And just kind of top quick one. There will be fans at this right. Yeah, but yes, And it's going to be similar to the last time. There's not going to be 50,000 people in there. But yes, span will be in there, so we'll give some semblance of a crowd. Which is good, but I think we've all kind of gotten used to, even though it's not a good thing to get used to not having fans in the stands, but Having anyone there is better than having no one there. Yeah, And obviously there were a lot of Dodger fans in Texas during the NLCS, which, as Giants flagship disturbed us a little bit, but Tim a little bit on the ballpark before we get into the match up here. You know, the word was that that place in this rare in this home run era and quote unquote juiced balls if you believe it or not launch angle and swing for the fences. That Globe life Park. The Rangers home part was not a bandbox. And does that play a role at all in this? I mean, the Dodgers did scrape the Siri's out in seven, but they weren't really able to homer their way around. Kind of like the Eights and the Astro state. A Dodger Stadium is that is that a factor at all? I think it is. I think we expected more home runs, but we got plenty. Even the Dodgers hit 16 in that series. No one's ever hit more home runs in any single postseason series. And the Dodgers just did they tied a record and their power is ridiculous. I mean, they had 118 homers in 60 game. The one other team has ever done that through the 1st 60 games and keep in mind. The 88 Dodgers won the World Series. They had 99 homers the hole here. And this team had 118 in 60 games, so I think the ball will jump pretty pretty well, but not not great, and it should be fun to watch. It's just odd, though, that you know, the Rays have never played a game in that ballpark. And they've only been 30 Major League games played in that ballpark, and now it's hosting the world serious, so there are a lot of things element in play here, and I would be uncomfortable if I were a member of the Rays, and I never played a game in a ballpark. You know exactly what the angles they're going to be like what the lighting is going to be like, And that's why they're there yesterday, trying to figure all this out, but it's a tricky proposition. When you never played in a certain ballpark, you were talking

MLB commissioner confident league will get through season

"What happened with the Marlins in Philadelphia was just a reminder of how fragile this season is. So here we are. Three games in there's a crisis in Major League Baseball is trying to stage a season in the middle of an escalating prices. We both agree. If it expands, you've got to stop in a country that obviously hasn't been able to corral Corona virus. Any little. One thing consent this season spiraling. It doesn't look good. But MLB commissioner Rob Manfred telling our Karl Ravech there is no reason to quit. Now we are playing, he said. The players need to be better. And I am not a quitter. In general. Manford confident his sport can get through the regular season and postseason without being stopped because he also cautions that there's a chance that not every team might play all 60 games as winning percentage could be used. To determine playoff teams. It's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless buster, only ESPN MLB Insider on Darien, Mel, There was really discouragement, you know, after what happened the Marlins last weekend Jeff Passan reporting about the frank conversation between Rob Manfred and Tony Clark. That happened yesterday. And then the news this morning that more cardinals tested positive the dominoes keep falling in the wrong direction. I just did, SportsCenter said. You know if Major League Baseball is a boxer, they just keep taking body blows. And it's some point. Yeah, it's just going to become too much. You think Keith Overman just report a little while ago that MLB is reached out to their broadcast partners and basically told him you need to prepare alternate programming for the week ahead, So yeah, very discouraging, and I got to tell you there's there's a lot of frustration at the team level with people feeling like that, while for the most part There are a lot of players trying to make it work front office is trying to make it work that in some cases that behavior just did not change in a way that was going to best protect all the players. They thought it was a Hail Mary All along, you know the thought was is that there could be some positive tests. And if there was that there could be some isolation. But for example, the major league Baseball testing has been every other day. Well, what happens if a player is infected? The day after he gets tested, and then he's around his teammates. The lag in the test results, which Sean do little. The national spoke to right off the bat where there was concerned that you know with the results just don't come back fast enough to do the isolation in the contact tracing that would be necessary to hold it down Those air reasons why, at the outset of this thing, there was a lot of skepticism that they could actually make it

Marlins' Coronavirus Outbreak Has MLB on Edge

"The Major League Baseball has decided that they're going to pause the Miami Marlins season. Still, that doesn't mean they're going to forfeit games yet, but it means their season is paused. They have 17 people in the organization between players and staff to test positive for covert 19. Teams that are supposed to be in Miami playing have refused to go to Miami and play. The teams that were supposed to be. The New York Yankees were supposed to be in the same locker room that the Marlins were in the night before, have refused to go into that locker room. So it has been a disruption for a part of the season. But I think Maura than anything else, what it is, is a PR nightmare for Major League baseball. So they are going to pause there season for until next week. I guess, while the make sure that they have gotten everybody tested that's tested positive, and they've all been quarantined and isolated before they allow the Marlins to resume their schedule, But it's only a 60 game season if seven games of 10% of their season. Has to be replayed. Then what happens to the other teams? They're playing at the end of the year. They only have five days off. I believe it's five days off for the regular season. All teams do now you're gonna have to limit those and when you get to crunch time for the playoffs, even if the Marlins aren't ready for the playoffs, and it plays no role, what about the other teams are going to have to play double duty later in the season, and it's just a mess. Steve, You're the baseball player in the baseball fan. How big of a deal is this? Not as a new story, but inside baseball. What does this do to the season? Well, depends on who you're talking about. If you're the Marlins, it's really bad because also don't forget they may not play again until next Monday. Because the nationals basically said, we're not coming to play you this weekend. But think about this 2 14 players. 15 players have tested positive to staff members right 15 players that's half of your roster. There's only 30 players on teams right now. So even when they come back on Monday, if those guys are quarantined for two weeks like they probably will be at least then half of your team is going to be completely new people. I'm pretty sure Anthony Fauci is available for relief pitching. If they need someone I think available is one thing.

MLB games postponed after Marlins' coronavirus outbreak

"Major League baseball, the they decided to re start the season this to start the season and hope is you play 60 games? Well, The problem always has been. What happens when you have travel because essentially When they were in their extended spring training or their summer camp or whatever they want to call it. There were only nine players who tested positive throughout all baseball in the past two weeks, and since baseball restarted what a month ago just 29 players and staff members that 0.1% Tested positive the issue, though it was always going to be You know what? What happened? What happens once the team start to travel, and we're starting to get the results of that it It's it's a least not good as Faras. The early indications 14 members of the Miami Marlins, who played in Philadelphia have now tested positive. They were supposed to play in Miami tonight. They're staying in Philadelphia. "60 games" Discussed on Brock and Salk

"Hold up the phone on. Never say. The phone honor. Back to watch the game and my buddy days ago, so I was like it's Andy got the heck. She's congratulated before. This thing's not over. It was furious. No eventually, yeah, I mean. We're not together anymore I draw. That that was the beginning of the foundation. Has something pulled right out of it right? But the passion was real man I mean. I was I was legitimately furious that somebody would say something like that I'm not sure that so passion meter. Is the game right there. Again there anymore. Already to end the relationship, because the mariners about start at sixty games right? Yeah, it's not. Willing to compromise is in my life these days that I wasn't necessarily when I was twenty one. Yeah, thank you. Great really grown in the next. Life that was half my life ago right? We're getting old. Speaking of of kids that age we there are some kids on the mariners right and Kyle. You're throwing the chrome cast on. What are you doing? You're watching the kids. You're not tuning into see Kyle seager. For Donnie Wall but yeah not kyle. You're not you're an Donovan Walton by the way, but no, you're watching, Louis and you see the kids man you WanNa you, WanNa, see what Logan Gilbert all right so so I thought I would run through a bunch of the younger players on the team, and maybe we just said. What do you need to see from them this year? What are you hoping to see from them this year? That gives you confidence in in what's going on with the mariners. What with that player and you're not gonNA get it from every one of them right I mean we all know you. You're if you have a hit rate of what? What are you hoping for is hit rate on these guys forty percent. Incredible right twenty five percent of like real hit rate would be amazing, so you're not gonna get it from all of these guys, but if you can get it from a few and hopefully then get it from county, and then kind of the next generation of you really have something, so we'll start with Kyle Lewis just because he hit all the home runs last year. We talked about him last week. What do you? What do you need to see from Kyle? Lewis this year? Who just just even out to some level of consistency came out on fire right in the whole. Can you make adjustments and you saw the pictures obviously? Obviously make adjustments because the guy can damage a fastball, so is there a level of just consistency and it's going to be very difficult in sixty km season. Are This be a sprint? So if you go through a week or two in a normal hundred sixty two game season as every player, even the League is do where there's a slump or a bump in the road it's going to be exaggerated over the course of sixty games so hopefully it's not a week or two or three weeks. It's a series or two series and your flesh, and you get back on that consistency trained. So can he hit north of two fifty? Right, can he? Can you have an on base north of three thirty? I'm not asking for a three hundred hitter. Three sixty on base, but can you just one out of four times, can you? Can you find yourself on base? 'cause you know the double and triple and the home run, and and just that a Taco power is there, so he hits two fifty for me over the course of sixty gain. Step, which is funny because I know you're not like a simple batting, average guy, but in this case it it. It would show you something about Kyle Lewis. He hit two forty. Yeah I mean I'll throw the hubbub. Passable defense and I know Scott said his defense has looked better in that he's going to play a little bit of center. What I saw in his brief stint in the majors, last year was not major league quality defense. He got turned around pretty bad and a couple of fly ball. I mean he did not look like play more last year, right? They throw them and write a bunch career center fielder until he had a couple of knee injuries, and then moved to corner like I think. That's probably GonNa have to happen. I mean I don't I. Don't think his speed at this stage. After the knee injuries is going to allow him to long-term be their center fielder especially in this park, so you know he's GonNa have to figure that out. Can you play right or left field capably and not get yourself turned around be at the very least not a liability out there. You don't have to be a gold glover, but you gotta not be a liability and I think what we saw last year. Was that beyond? Give him a chance. Chance to play center something he is done Wisconsin well comfortable something Scott said it's easier. Get a jump on the ball because it's right at you a little bit more than those cornerstone I think that they'll have an opening in centerfield sooner rather than later. Let's just say that. I have exactly zero. Confidence Alex Smith. We're GONNA play that sound now or later when you are playing well, that's not why nothing to do with that and I. "You'RE GONNA win the lottery like there's so many parts of chances, and I will tell you I tweeted that out and I immediately got texts from. The players side who were in a hundred percent agree like what are we doing here? Yes like A. You know a big part of the strategy. Go ahead, I I. Don't understand it for the life of me. It's like a manager arguing like you. Protesting a game is is like the turnover. The result we never see it happen, and these things take so long to figure like it would. It tells me is that the relationship is so bad that they wanted to have whatever. Small piece of leverage that they could possibly muster like you said. These things are inconsequential, and the party should have thrown out the right degrees weeks ago again something that we've talked about I I'm really unreal. That's one that I really struggled with buster, because if you if you could even for one season guaranteed more than half your players, the opportunity to participate in the playoffs not only is that a dream come true for a Lotta people not only fantasy players like Mike Drought. They've never seen the playoffs to the opportunity to make more money in the short term is. Is Huge and the opportunity for it's really work, and potentially be a part of next season, and in the future the next collective bargaining agreement is a huge win for players. We're talking about massive increases in potential salaries, so the idea of like you said choose choosing to hold onto that one small thing is dull shortsighted, and it's I think it's very representative of where we've been the last two months I think if I were player waking up this morning. On the Phillies of the white. SOX padres or the Blue Jays I'd be livid that I lost that jazz. All right Hembo thanks for doing this later boy. Leisure tweets. All Buster bleacher tweets for Twos de will Will it abbreviated here for today, and this isn't so much a question as just some catharsis from Zane Liberty Zane. He writes in deere. Major League Baseball. Players neither of you want to get back on the field for fans are only worried about squeezing every possible dime out of each other, so don't ATM your statements tweets about how you want to play for fans you don't. You're all selfish? Is this the vibe you're getting in your mentioned? Because this was kind of the vibe on the bleacher tweets Hashtag I think a lot of vibes. No Question I. I mean a lot of the people heard from last night. do or along those sentiment. There were some that were like. Thank goodness, you know. Baseball's coming back I actually had a couple of people tweeted out when I sorta forecast. What's to come and it's? It's potentially pretty ugly. Some people were like. Let's be positive baseball comeback Taylor. How are you feeling about this? Where we sit today? I'm still. I'm worried about covert. Obviously, I'm worried about how seriously the players are going to are going to take the shortened season I think in in theory like I, said earlier theoretical baseball sixty games for me as like not like the biggest fan in the world like that sounds like a lot of fun so I. Hope It is a lot of fun, but I'm still not sure and doing this podcast for the last three months. I'm I'm skeptical that it's all GonNa come together. What did you think Trevor Bowers tweets? Spot on I, mean I know that as as a podcast? We've kind of gone back and forth on how we feel about him speaking out like this, but I think it's great for him to to. You know specifically what we've been saying. No absolute death of the industry like this has been awful for them and for him to get out there and say it. You know as these theoretical baseball plans come together. Together I, you know I. Endorse it for sure. Let's go to our final bleacher tweeting again. Not really a question more so just a a statement, but Scotty Barnes. He's chiming in on our brief conversation. We had the other day about other spots for a baseball road trip. the Louisville slugger. Museum in Kentucky the Tycoon Museum in Georgia in the shoeless. Joe Jackson Museum in South Carolina ever been any of those. No and the Louisville slugger one is interesting to me. I mentioned that I got to see a playoff game when I was eleven years old sitting next to pee wee reese to the Brooklyn, dodgers. He knew my uncle who ran sporting goods store in Manchester New Hampshire and peewee the reason why I got to know him was because he worked for a Louisville slugger, and so partly because of that and be partly because it'd be cool to go and watch them. Make Bats I love to visit there. That's for sure. That's a great idea Scotty. Thank you. Good Thinking Hashtag Leisure tweets on twitter. Let us know what you're thinking about. "Hembo is Paul Indicators. A researcher. The SPN news a hunch on the show. Get up. He told us he's head Honcho checked with Mike Greenberg and he said that he's merely inspiration for wild parting Hembo. How're you doing this week? I'm doing well I will qualify that well in saying that I will be ready to party if we do indeed get our baseball. We've been talking to the last six weeks. You about this. They would never communist. They might have come. It's hard to say so definitively right now, but I'm I'm really I'm really excited. I'm optimistic with the news. The name might bring. All right, so what do you expect to see once? They get going. I, my expectation is that the players will sort grit their teeth, and agree to the to the proposal from the from the league last night, in which they'll play a sixty game season, and they'll probably make some I. Guess without describe as like modifications to the health and the hell contingency because. Of course as we talked about for the last months. That is really the only thing that matters that is. A? Challenging for some players potentially with one week turnaround time to be able to get themselves in the city in which they're gonNA train for the next few weeks. You're up towards the season but buster. The thing that I don't understand for the life of me is what the players were willing to forfeit. The expanded postseason just to have the right to group that one. I just can't wrap my head around and I'm going to ask you about that. In a second because it certainly was born to light by what Trevor Bauer tweeted overnight but before we get to that I'm gonNA. Be Doctor Doom for you okay? When you talk about you know the players gritting their teeth and moving ahead I will ask you logically if you are a potential free agent. Okay, and you've already qualified for free agency by appearing implying one game for example would there be logic and you competing for a and putting yourself at risk for a shortened season and I'll even. Talk about young players to as Bob Nightingale tweeted out over the weekend that if you're a young player, you have you know basically under two and a half years of service time you're gonNA. Make a total of twenty five thousand dollars for the remaining games the season because of the salary advances earlier this year. It would seem like there are going to be players on both ends of that spectrum who are going to be maybe stretch to find real personal motivation to play. Yes I agree with that. I think by and large these are ballplayers and they're going to want to play. I would approximate that number at least ninety percent, but you have identified two different kinds of players that would have a lot to gain by potentially sitting out. I hadn't really thought much about the players with fewer than three years of service time, because those players theoretically are trying to continue to build up their value, but the amount of money in a grand scheme of these things obviously would be pretty inconsequential and insignificant that there would be earning in. The only approximates thirty seven percent of its normal length. That's a good thought. The other notion we've talked about in the show player George Springer and Marcus Simeon and Mike Minor who have a lot to gain in potential agency than they would in the season, especially for those players on fringe playoff teams that may have thought. They had an opportunity to compete in the playoffs this year because we were told all along that, there was gonna be after council expansion so when you consider those two ideas in addition to the fact that. That we haven't even begun talking about health in terms of the exposure to cove in nineteen, those, there's so many variables here what we're finding. Is the NBA being so far ahead of Major League baseball on this, and there are already a player yesterday in the NBA, a member of the Washington except I'm not going to be back because I'm not the chance. He liked George Springer like Marcus semi and light Mike Minor is about to enter free agency so overseeing it in the NBA. I'm I'm certain especially given the relationship. In the League in the Union right now that will see it across. Major League Baseball. What did you think Trevor Bowers tweets? I thought Trevor. I've been very critical of battle for in the past, but I thought he nailed it yesterday to be totally candid with you. Buster a I wouldn't. I don't know that there's a player that has hand on the pulse of the situation quite better than trevor. Bauer has and because there hasn't been what I would describe as sort of loud vocalized leadership from the players coming from one source or a few sources. He's sort of become the the the voice of reasons. Read all this in a couple of things that he said that I really relieved. Take away from the first of which is that he said guys. We should be playing the long. Long game here we're giving up a lot in a short term rates in potentially sacrificing way more when we should all along than focusing on the next collective bargaining agreement buster your to call about two months ago when you and I talked about it, it's a shame that it's taken this long for these guys to realize just what they're missing by thinking so short term the can thing is the fact you know the all the things that he listed that you gave up at the players willing to give up to keep the right degree which I. Obviously, there's a lot of you know above my pay, grade and I I'm sure that the Tony Clark. And you know the executives there have their reasons for it. I I'm certain of that, but in my opinion, the amount of potential revenue and potential upside for the sport for these. To lose a potential opportunity to play postseason gets the goal of every single player, and to see in easy path into the playoffs were more than half of your constituents, and my opinion with a big win for the players. They are one of the biggest wins in addition to the universe. The age at to give that up teeny seemed like a a real mess a real mess when you consider all what's at stake the season, the amount of money lost in the regular season. I like I said at the beginning that went really. By that, and and I've not heard a good explanation for it and tweeted out yesterday morning that if the pursuit of a grievance was part of the Union leaderships, big picture strategy that to me is like banking your financial future on the assumption..

"Young player, you got less than two years of service time. you've. You've already received some your pay based on the terms earlier in the year. I gotta tell you Dave. If you have like a nagging at you, let's say you're a starting pitcher and you got a little soreness in your shoulder at the end of second spring training. You're going to risk that when you're not getting any more money for the rest of the season I could see players dropping out at both ends of this. Yeah and there. In fact, there's an NBA player I forget his name, the pending free agent and just said he's not gonNA. Come back in the NBA resumes, and he's facility said he doesn't want to get hurt when he was about to make a Lotta money, but back to Trevor Bauer. He's a free agent. After this year, you know he marcus Stroman for aging. Most of the top names are hitters, obviously at less risk for an injury, but yeah, if you're a pitcher, is about to make a big payday. You know in this season. There's at risk you push yourself too hard early on, you know, get hurt. Yeah! I mean that's a big risk for some of these guys, so yeah, and and even younger player. You know so. I, I would not be shocked especially if we see some pictures. They're reluctant to play this season. Now also because there was no agreement, some of the terms that had been on the table potentially expanded playoff field, potentially universal d. h., potentially the players wearing microphones You know being accessible during broadcast. All of that goes away. I gotTA. Tell you I really hope that we get a sub negotiation. Where some common sense applies where the two sides go, okay, we know he didn't agree big picture, but please wear microphones and. H and please. Can we work a thing where we get more playoff teams? Because that doesn't help anybody not to do those things. No, it doesn't, and they look on the bright side. No advertising patches on jerseys, but that's probably inevitable down the road. Yeah, look I was looking forward to an expanded playoffs. I'm not a fan of the one game wild card. Just screws team, you quote unquote. Make the playoffs and you got one game I think that's a absurd system. I would've loved this. D. Use this season as an experiment for different kind of playoff system. So that's disappointing. Universal Da's looks like we might get that regardless this year, but I think it's time to implement that in all future years, so yeah unfortunately. You know that's the fallout. Is this stuff actually? That's being affected on the seal. That could have been positive. David a common question when I talked to club executives on Monday night was. How will the peer pressure on player participation manifest? They're wondering what direction that's going to go. Because in a typical season as you know, there might players who might be having a nagging injury, your some smaller thing in the eyes of their teammates, and there is feeling. Hey, we need. You need to get you on the field when I was covering the Yankees. Yankees for example I remember how some of the veterans thought that his career petted didn't know how to pick through discomfort in his elbow. And you know that became I think for a while like come on, let's let's put yourself here to to work this out. Well under the current situation because we talked about you know what's state for free agents. What's at stake for younger players? You know the relative compensation, the risk reward factor. Eight. Some of the executives are like okay. which way is that GonNa Push? Our. They're going see for example. The typical dynamic veteran players sort of pulling other guys along saying we need you on the field, or in this weird situation with the coronavirus Willoughby, every man for himself where the players will be like. Hey, everybody's GonNa make their own decision if my team, the potential free agent. Decides, he doesn't want to participate. I'm going to respect that I. Don't know the answer to that. I feel like from team to team. It's going to be different. What about you? Yeah as you're reading that off. I was thinking well I would say my first instinct is every guy for himself, but. I. Think There's going to be certain teams or even a shortened season. You know if we get through it. A world series title is still a world series title and I think those teams that come together team Mike the Dodgers, Clayton. Kershaw GonNa want a world series ring even in this season. Of course he does, you know so you know those teams I think then have the good veteran leadership that WanNa win, even in this kind of scenario are the teams that are going to come together and be successful, but there's GonNa. Be Other teens. I could see them just completely following apart, you know not coming together so that'll be really fascinating story line to watch unfold, and another one in a player I'm GonNa. Be really curious to see what he does. Get a little bit. On a sixty might trout news the most prominent player in the game. You know he did an interview when we were early in this process, and he talked about a- his wife's pregnancy, and how in order to live in a bubble that was being talked about back then that would have to be away from his wife for the birth of his child, and he basically indicated I'm not going to do that. And I I am really curious about how he's GonNa. Handle this current situation because. If he goes away join. A team obviously leaves Millville from the bubble that he's living in now and has during this time he potentially could be more risk. Would that mean that? He would reduce the chances that he could be there for the for the birth of his first child, and you know I it. Mike is not someone who's going to tell other people what to do, but he's an important figure in all of this like I think that might trout ops out and says look for my family considerations I think other people will understand that, but it might also give some cover for other players who don't WanNA participate. I'm going to be really curious about what he does. Know and that's. We gotta remember as much as we all want baseball. They're still a very serious pandemic across the entire country, and yeah, a lot of these players have families and young kids and older parents, and so on, and of course just like we are concerned about the health of those close to them. That's not going to go away just because we're GONNA BE PLAYING BASEBALL ON TV in front of Empty Stadiums You know all those logistics? We gotta learn the exact specifics even on where all these games are going to be played. But it's a legitimate issue and I'm. Not GonNa Fault. Any player who says I don't WanNA play. I got family issues to worry about this year first off. I have no doubt that his instinct is whatever's going to happen. I'M GONNA to make sure. I'm there for the birth of my child and I also think like has already made more money than he's ever going to spend in his life. So anyway anybody who anybody who scribes like well, it's all, but no, it's not and and that's why I'm really. You know he's kind of. He's in a tough spot because he is a leader among the players. And, I think buster. You know this in the end most of these guys. They love baseball. They really WanNa, play, you know, but again it's not ignore the absolute unique circumstances going on here, and that's aside from the all the ugly negotiation, so every player should absolutely be allowed to make his own personal decision without heavy criticism from the media or from fans, a hundred percent agree with you. All right Sir I appreciate it David Wright. Thanks Buster, before we get to Hembo, check out the latest edition of the low-post Zach talks to hawks coach Lloyd Peirce.

"David Jones field covers baseball for ESPN and look I'll just give you a broad question and let you swing away anyway. You Want Day. how you about all this. Well. Look I guess as of now we're GONNA have some form of baseball. So that's a good thing. We Love the sport. How we got here obviously enormously frustrating. Everybody has an opinion on this I guess. I would say that I think we ended up. Where we probably would ended up even if all the negotiating had had. In back rooms and the players and the owners hadn't leaked everything out Is it fair again? Everybody has their own opinion. I'm a fan of the sport. I JUST WANNA. See Baseball and we might get it. I don't think that's a lock with the way. The virus is spreading in in certain states. Now but we might get. Baseball Sixty Games to me. That's better than zero. Yeah there. I remember back in eighty one. I was seventeen years old when they settle that strike and in. You're like Woohoo all star game. Ready to go on ninety five spring and ninety five one you know, the court decision comes down. Middle By. Future Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Than, and they quickly resolve the differences right after that you're like Woohoo they they have a deal. I don't know how to feel in this moment, because yes, you're going to have baseball, but wow that we'd still feels like we have so much to navigate through. No we do and we most. Importantly you know all these health protocols and guidelines Um that are gonna be implemented and I guess the players will have to officially approve that but. You know I. Think it gets back I saw Brett Anderson the pitcher tweet this last night. which is you know what happens when we all get it it meaning the virus and we've seen these all these positive tests pop up and in some of the. Workout facilities you know Novak Djokovic had a tennis tournament in Serbia four players tested positive including him so once you start getting these athletes congregating together no matter the protocols and the testing Something's going to happen. Some players are gonNA. Get it and that's the concern. What's the fallout when that does happen? You're exactly right, which is why you know you hope that they can get through schedule I ha. I have serious doubts whether they can even get through training camp a second spring training, but we'll you know we'll see. Here's the other part of this that I really. Just makes you cringe. You know the fact that there was no agreement on a schedule. I tweeted this out right after we got word that the players voted down the agreement you can see the domino's now all ready to set up and tumble, and one of them's already fallen implementation of a short season by mlb the next domino, some players choosing not to play based on my conversations with people on the players side last night this morning I think that's going to happen. you know there are going to be some players whether it's corona virus, a potential free agents, or and we'll explain why, but potentially some young players. Who might decide look? They're not gonNA play. Three a players association grievance, which seems to be a big part of the the union strategy for the upcoming free agents Dave in the free agent. They're going to get destroyed. Because there's no agreement. There's no protections put in place for them, and then all major labor issues merely deferred to next spring, which is I feel like Jayco long hair it's it's mutually assured destruction. Me Well no I I agree. There's going to be this cloud hanging over the score, not just this year, but all of next year cause of the CBA. You know it's GonNa, be there all summer the players look in the long run I think the players were going to lose no matter what the economic fallout from from the money the owners are. Are GonNA. Lose this year is going to go into two, thousand, twenty, one, two, thousand and twenty two, maybe even beyond so, and that's a pretty good free agent class next winner. They're going to totally get screwed because there's not going to be team spending you know, and that's already been an issue. In recent years for free agent, the whole economic model. Of Free Agency just isn't working anymore for players, so I assume that's going to be a CPA issue. You know so. This cloud is just it's very dark. I hate to say it, but I agree with you. You know it's really interesting you know. All along I kept on waiting for owners collectively. The union leadership to really look at the situation from thirty thousand feet that the golden goose is being killed and last night Trevor Bauer was the one who tweeted you know. There are a lot of you know, rank and file on the management side, rank and file among players who feel like trevor has been out there too much and that his messaging was off the last night man after he started tweeting and asking some questions, and and basically asking big picture. About what are we doing here I? Add so many texts from people around the game. Saying I can't believe it, but I agree with Trevor Hundred. Would you think of his tweets? But I'd love to be a fly on the wall of that first day of spring training with goes in the clubhouse with his teammates right man. That's going to be an uncomfortable setting Hey, look you know. I disagree with Trevor Bauer on a lot of stuff, but he's not afraid to put the put himself out here and you know. He had the guts to go. Basically against the Union stands on this so. And Look I think he's right the big picture. My thing is I. Don't know if anybody is worried or trying to protect the future of the game. Listen I think both sides, maybe particularly ownership, but it's gotta be more than just how much revenue are regenerating the sport this year? You know, but are we growing the sport? How are we giving this sport to younger kids? Making this sport accessible to younger kids, we've all seen the numbers on the average age of the TV audience, and it's older much older for baseball and other sports. You know in the big picture aside from what's going on in twenty twenty. You WanNa make the sport more accessible, more entertaining, more popular for the younger generation. That's what I worry about long-term. That baseball is not doing a good job at that. Yeah, now we've talked on the podcast about how if they come up with an agreement or not an agreement? If if the system is implemented on the players, there's going to be potential chaos. Potential circus players opting out and And we've talked about in a potential free agents. How the risk reward equation for them might be like you know. What for a shortened season. Maybe I won't even participate. I WANNA protect. My answer's going to the open market, but the fact that there could also be young players, lacking incentive to participate was sort of crystallized for me when I saw this tweet from Bob Nightingale of USA. Today! My old friend he tweeted out the fact that there was no agreement between MLB and the Union means that nineteen percent of all players will be playing for virtually free this year, earning twenty, five, thousand or less since they already received their advance money before may twenty fourth, also, there'll be no postseason shares for any playa hair, so if you're a young player, you got less than two years of service time. you've. You've already received some your pay based on the terms earlier in the year. I gotta tell you Dave..

"New York and Taylor boy. We're going back and forth last night out of we handle this. What do we do and we decided to plow ahead because he does look like they're gonNA. GonNa. Try to play baseball this year. Do you had the very specific guidelines here? There has to be a resolution, so the players union rejecting the offer wasn't resolution I thought. It was I was like okay. We're going to a party, said No. We have to have a response from the league. We got that we are here. We are talking theoretical baseball in the near. Near Future how about that? Yeah, they're radical is a good way to put it at this point we'll. We'll see how this all plays out. It's not totally resolved. They're gonNA. Move Ahead, Here's the news. The players voted thirty three to five in their zoom meeting yesterday to reject the owner, sixty game proposal and shortly afterward commissioner Rob Manfred. Then announced his intention to. To implement a sixty game season at full pay with camps to begin a week from today. But Manfred asked the players responded to questions, and he wants an answer by the end of business today one will. The Union agreed report in a week, and to will they agreed to the health and safety protocol the agents and players. I spoke with on Monday evening Baseball will get an opportunity to try to move forward. Of course as you said a long baseball is like a rowboat in a hurricane during the situation because the virus. Because there's no agreement under the terms dictated by major league baseball. The postseason will remain at ten teams remember there had been a proposal for expanded playoff that goes away. The players will not receive forgiveness on the hundred and seventy million dollars in salary advanced. They received as part of the March agreement. They'll get no money from the postseason. The players have not agreed to where onfield microphones teams will not wear advertising patches on the uniforms and the universal designated. Designated hitter. Glee will not be put in place for this year. We'll just have to wait and see how that goes. Is see if there's some sub negotiation? So to speak some of these certainly seen counterproductive for the players in short term in the long term, Trevor Bauer went off on twitter about the situation of course, a pitcher for the Cincinnati reds tweeted out. It's absolute death for this industry to keep acting as it has been both. Were driving the bus straight off the cliff. How is this good for anyone involved Kobe? Nineteen or presented a lose lose situation, and we've had somehow found a way to make it worse. Incredible his second tweet. If there's going to be a fight that time for that, fight it after the two thousand twenty one season, when a new CBA negotiated, five years of potential change, were doing irreparable damage to our industry right now over rules that last at most sixteen months w t.f kind of sense. Does that make his third tweet? And this was after a few hours, so it was almost like trevor was assessing where baseball where the players are. He asked a rhetorical question, so he gave up shares a playoff money, eliminating the qualifying offer for two thousand, twenty one paycheck advanced forgiveness, covid, nineteen protections and protection for non-guaranteed ARP contracts for next year in order to hold onto a right to file a grievance. Questioning that logic and we'll be talking about all that David. Jones field coming up before we get to that now more than ever have to look out for each other and count on each other.

"Alright Kiva what. What are we going to talk about? What are we doing Roy? Let me give you you know this episode has been going on for a while. Let me give you some simple easy ideas that listen this week but my goal really is to get at least one of them on the way. I think we've got a chance. One thing on the wheel okay. I mean maybe four. I don't know but let's try it all right. Let's look I don't think he's ever put something on the wheel before. Let's try with our friend dollar. John Denver D- He's gotten idea called wars or trash or alternatively alternatively the ideas called war what is it good for Swear it's very simple. We Watch an episode of storage wars episode of parking wars was an episode of Flip. Wars wars is a thing walking like fighting over a parking spot or like management of parking garage as I think probably parking garages says anyway I'm sure we could. We could decide which wars the choose who could do like world war storage wars and flip wars. I don't Anyway and we watch those shows shows and we talk about a war. What is it good for? I feel like that's just trying to take. TLC shows or trashes spot as the next our trash MHM decided to go on the wheel. I feel I feel like there is something I back in the day used to spend hours on Saturday nights watching storage wars with my friends in this story are in different ways Particularly behold I do love heff particularly how staged staged in characterized shows are. I have not checked out the parking wars or the Phil. Moore's or whatever the third one was of any variety but I feel like if you're into checking out like really Schlitz see reality television at least from a storage perspective. This has lakes. I want to hear more about these Saturday nights with Mike Bloom and his friends watching storage storage wars. Yeah what's obsolete rubs pretty pretty damp. We're very dank. Thank you don't think you're using that right so I've looked sharking. Wars and a guest viewers get behind the scenes on the street perspective perspective as employees of the Philadelphia Parking Authority go on their daily rounds. Frequently dealing with ice meter maid workers issue citations Cited for this idea of dollars. Then dollar would be a series following the ticket writers in Bouterse of Detroit's municipal parking department as well so that's more bouterse the bouterse listeners.

"Grow up okay. So we're going to go like each team is just GonNa Guess. It's not going to be both people people guessing because I gave us how many how many questions that he's sending. He sent a million. We do not have to do all of them. There's one two for five six seven sixteen. We don't need to do sixteen of these. I won the five points rob. Should we do that. Okay sure now I think I think this is fair so then because you guys chose the game Robert and Keith. That get to go first. The first matchup which of these he's chain restaurants has more locations in the United States starbucks or McDonald's Yeah I think these are probably the two with the most rob right. I think that subway somehow is actually the most I know but they closed allow. You Might WanNa sit down. Have something really. I feel like it's starbucks because I feel like that. There's like a starbucks in every hotel. I know McDonald's has a big head start but I think I'd say starbucks. Yeah let's go starbucks. Hey nine is correct starbucks as when I was sent these numbers. Add fourteen thousand. Three hundred and McDonald's had thirteen thousand eight hundred eighty four. Close one okay perfect okay. So then Mike in Liana the when you get is crispy cream or Tim Horton and in the US just to be in the US. I feel like it's grisly. Because Tim Horan has been a recent advent advent to the east coast but previously it was only really in the Midwest. Yeah I mean. I've only seen it in Canada which doesn't count right so crowns Canadian listeners accounts for this game of course yes yes we'll go with crispy cream. Hey on his incorrect. A nine hundred fifty five locations I guess and two more eight hundred him for really I mean according to what see sent me okay now that might include Canada. Let's.

Who's picking the game? Yeah it's our turn to pick the guy with our lives on the line We've got the chain dam or the IMDB after all well we have to win both of them so it really doesn't matter you WANNA save the chain game Akiva. I think we should play it because you said I am. Mike is just such incredible pop culture knowledge it has an advantage advantage tiebreaker in Jinks Mike although we thought he had a pop-up knowledge now but then it sounded like he was just googling those people and he didn't really put a secret fast fingers. Okay well all right. Let's let's play the chain game so chain game. We have about a million different for ones here. But I think I two eight points wins. Why points I'm choking calmed down? Yeah well you know we. We Make Games Mike and so is this a trick. You know. You're trying to get into the mind of the quiz maker now. Did they try to get to you. Cheap oh deep in a row or is this like a surprise one where it's like. Oh my gosh that's crazy. It's you know it's really expensive. I don't know I'm I'M GONNA go. I will probably go with twenty bucks. I think it's nice deeply in the middle. Make them debate it twenty six twenty s okay. Twenty six dollars okay. Uncle Key You have a thought on this. I just maybe she threw in like a really cheap one. This can be really really cheap. Really cheap one. I'm I'm all in on over okay. So let's go over and just to talk this through. Yeah I think that this is more of the Lululemon variety right. I feel like that the model is also wearing what looks like maybe yoga pants yell. It looks like Yoga Pants. I I think that this is this is an over. Yeah let's go over I this game okay and it is all tied up because this is from Lululemon Lululemon fifty eight dollars even like it could cost you basically said like you could cost fifty five dollars gasped when she said it. I think no cursing. Okay all right great boy now. It comes down to the tiebreakers. So so are setting the price Weiner Kerr Kudos for getting to the final question. Yea Loser Bra we just WanNa play meaningful games. We did so to set up. What's going on here? You see this young woman. It looks like that she is wearing a neon green a Furry cop over each side with with like there's like some leather I strap in the formation of a double the they're also add that the woman also appears to be wearing glitter later I do not believe that is included with the BRA. I feel like that this is some sort of like you know. adult adult novelty Bra. And Not really for everyday work or a function well. You don't. You probably wouldn't shoot hoops in this. One Yeah I. I don't think it's ridiculously expensive that I feel like that. The the woman with the big budget is Buying number two. This is more of a woman with about you. Know Forty Dollars Suspend I. I think we gotta go higher up. I'm just saying like she picked this very weird looking like bad picture. ABROA- for a reason. Yeah because he's here because it's a it's a neon green furry but she had to like almost like did you just google you know raw images midges and come up with five or is there something unique. It's here because it looks it. Looks Crazy and it's funny to talk about. It's not because I really wish we could. We could bet under here as I have such what what are you. What do you think it would be? I don't WanNa say I don't want to help Mike and Leon well. What are you feeling you feeling your tire? I think it's Ir you're you're then I think there's no value in forty. You know what I mean. I mean I could see this also being you know twenty two dollars also so we could be. I really. Don't think this is a very expensive. It looks it looks very cheap and tawdry and it's just it's the novelty it's not. It's not a real bra. Aw Okay we fifty.
