Is 5G Really Fulfilling Its Promise?
"So about five. Jesus stands today because it's been deployed in various bands around the world. Obviously if you watch. Tv or listen to radio you hear commercials about how amazing five g. is from all your carrier partners brian in. At and t. I'm curious after spending years of development in hearing the hype and the the interest in technology. Now that it's out there and others live do you feel like five g. has has met. That promise has met that hype. That sort of erupted a really in the years before this thing got rolled out five gene. Really well actually with some measurements just for all west some holiday but we want to not only test your lab we just went to some all poetries A few than these measurements. It's ridiculously good. That's of course or deployed factor system. Right i think the us because of a spectrum allocation was seeing these super nice meeting you too deployment but also the a lower frequency Rising at and t. mobile sketches message tens of billions of dollars scholar spectrum where super exciting. Us visa why area deployment will also come up very soon right so but in some earlier market at oddity loyd is really amazing. Compared to out he's almost Time sir ruble. So that's the that's super fast and also you know we've seen a huge pickup now on bolsa each site in for for cars smart transportation really. These market is picking up five g. based on the alert to infrastructure on al-kadra car on communications now Up which is car person to edition. Communications who improve the safety and also smart factory site. We are collaborating You know we sell moshe. Seamen's a some of the leading manufacturers. You're testing out of the factory capability
5G Rollout in the U.S. Has Been Anything but Fast
"For years. Now we've been promised blazing fast speeds as next generation five g networks are rolled out the major carriers verizon. At and t. Mobile have all made five g a central part of their marketing campaigns. And they've pitched it as the foundation for a new era of technological innovation but in the us the rollout of those networks isn't living up to the hype. So what gives our puerto council has been looking into this and he joins me now. Hey jared thanks for joining me. Thanks for having me so just to put some numbers and figures to this picture. What is the state of five zero out in the us. We're the major carriers stand in comparison to the rest of the world. So the three major carriers verizon eighteen t and t mobile here in the us They all say they have nationwide five g coverage which means that you know the five g networks cover roughly two hundred million or so people while that is true. The five g that that that people it is really not materially different from the four g that they've they already have one number here here in the us. The average five g speed is about sixty seven megabits per second and south korea. It's three hundred sixty six megabits per second so pretty much six times that the speeds aren't you know anything to to shout home about yet. But they are improving and the carriers are building out their networks. So folks in the industry expects some of the building of equipment in towers and such to really kick up and twenty twenty two. And so we still saying. We're getting some progress but we still have a ways to

New Verizon promotion offers discounts when swapping a broken phone for a 5G one
"Up to now? Victoria? Well, they have a new deal that suspiciously launches today, but they they are insisting that this is not related to April. Fool's, So it does sound a little too good to be true, especially if you have a useless broken phone that doesn't work anymore. Because Verizon's insisting that starting today customers can trade in an old cracked or water, damaged phone and get up to $1000 off a new five g phone like either the iPhone 12 or the Samsung Galaxy s 21. Now the promo does not extend to phones that have battery damaged because their safety concerns there with that. But other than that, if you have a phone that's just sitting around an old and broken there clearly telling you that if you especially if you are switching providers, and you go to Verizon from a different provider that they're going to give you a lot of money and credit for those broken phones so you can find out the value of your phone on Verizon's Web site. Or in any of the retail stores. But if you do plan to visit in person they you have to make an appointment because of covert, so eligibility requires upgrading or adding a new line or reporting a number, you know, bringing a number from a different different provider. So a few new they have a new lines and a new phone for a number of pardons or current customers. Porting the line from a different network. You got a $300 Verizon gift card for an iPhone trade in or a $200 gift card for an android phone. So if you're upgrading your phone, and you're already a customer, Verizon, you can still bring them a broken phone to trade in. They'll give you up to $440 in savings, and there's no limit to what I do for a current Is it for current customers are new customers. It's for both. You get more money if you're a new customer, but you will get some savings. If you are a current Verizon customer, and you have a broken phone or an old phone that doesn't work. So if you are, there's no limit to how many phones per account you can trade in, which is also kind of big and that's that's a big part of this deal, and it's limited
Episode 44 Live! Lost Cities - Visiting Troy
"Dog. Ravenna which is 150 years, but if you took me to Troy and hey, here's what Pompeii was like, here's what Troy was like, here's what the you know that they really did kind of take you back to a Thursday. There are Gladiators, right the arena suddenly, there are you know, like the Senate is filled with Romans and togas debating the the issues of today. That would be an amazing amount and with the AI and getting 5G you could have interactive NPCs that you're talking with just like a video game and just thinking that if at first you thought it was only like your name. Is he going to say this you're watching and then suddenly the thing sort of interact with you. Some people would embrace it as simply would be well, yeah, you know telling ghost I don't want this. I don't want people talking that are real, right, you know, you mentioned Troy more than likely we'd get a spear through us then exactly any place where the word in the language for enemy is the same as for stranger.

Nokia says the cuts which are about 11% of its workforce, will affect most of the
Verizon is the top bidder on 5G spectrum, committing more than $45 billion
"The fcc has announced the winners of wireless airwave auction. It conducted over the past few months which racked up a record. Eighty one billion in bids the mid band spectrum sometimes called the goldilocks band is well suited for five g networks because it is able to transmit large amounts of data on a wavelength that can travel long distances. The two hundred and eighty megahertz spectrum is also especially important to wireless giants who've been trying to fill out their spectrum. Portfolios the big winners verizon via itsel co partnership subsidiary bid nearly forty five point five billion on the airwaves. at and t. through atp spectrum. Frontiers bid twenty three point. Four billion while t mobile bid nine point three billion it already acquired amid band through its merger with sprint. The results were in line with industry expectations and reflect. How important securing licenses for the airwaves is for the carriers.
T-Mobile has a new 5G wireless plan
"You're obviously going to hear a lot more about five g this year as the major wireless carriers continue to make those networks available to more consumers among them is t mobile which just revealed details on a new plan coming up. Yes indeed yet. T. mobile's announce a new magenta. Max plan which takes place of the magenta plus plan and it will cost about the same that that plan had which was about fifty four dollars per line a month for three line plan but for a limited time you can sign up for a three line plan. That is about forty seven dollars per line per month that includes all taxes fees when you use auto pay now a single line under the magenta mex plan costs eighty dollars but each additional added brings down the overall auto pay costs forty seven dollars under the current promotion and this plan is also available for small businesses can cover up the twelve employees. Now why would you wanna do this. If you already have a plan or on another carrier t mobile says its new unlimited five g and four g premium data plan. That data will not be slowed. No matter how much data you use. Now why would you wanna do that. If you already have a plan or on another carrier t mobile says its new unlimited five g and four g premium data will not be slowed. No matter how much data you use under this new plant competing unlimited plans may temporarily slow data after certain milestones reached. Now with this new plan. You also get more hotspot data forty gigabytes up from twenty gigabytes of the current plan. You get the stream. Four k video and previously hd and several other features including free scam blocking and caller. Id new customers who do not have a five g phone can trade in the current phone and get a new five g. Won t mobile's twenty four month interest. Free plan t will also let customers on other plans bring their five g phone over and pay off up to six hundred and fifty dollars of existing payments for that phone without any switching costs. So can i just say if i hear another service that uses the word plus max to describe itself. I'm probably gonna pull what's left of my hair out. I feel like every single service of late is a plus max. There have to be other words but anyway so we're seeing five g roll out. Obviously how good is it right now. So bread is still far from being available everywhere. Here in northern. Virginia i get five g connectivity on on the verizon iphone have and also on the samsung t mobile phone i use but around the us t mobile currently covers more than two hundred and eighty million americans with its five g network but just more than one hundred million with the super fast speeds that get you to the three hundred gigabytes per second range now in comparison with traditional phones. Use four g lt. You're lucky to get fifty megabits per second. Now t mobile said it plans to reach two hundred million this year with the super fast speeds in recent tests run by open signal from for the month of january t mobile users connected to five g. Almost one third of the time thirty percent eighteen five g users connected eighteen percent of the time and verizon connected nine point five percent now. These are all improvements for the month of january according open signal. What's tests five g around the country. The good news is that typically t. mobile's actions lead to movement by the competition so all consumers might be seen better deals and kind of in the days ahead. I'll

"You know today the the the opportunities are really around the Enterprise so they can deploy Edge Computing on top of there on top of private wireless network, So they have a low cat low-cost path to Edge enabled mobile applications kind of like Factory Robotics iot and other these cases like you talk about some of them, you know, I'm waiting for that cost me 5G Edge infrastructure. So, you know to answer your question. The biggest opportunity is what what people can create. I like to say one of our one of our lines that we talked about a little bit out in the market places. I can't wait to see what you build. So we're going to give you the tools so you don't have to worry about the complexity of 5G. We're going to give you tools to create these applications and then deploy them in minutes on the internet platform bed. So that that liberates a lot of time. I mean, you're not having to reinvent reinvent to reinvent something that's already there. You can just go about creating a solution exactly. Yeah bass teacher right? It's the the the new mousetrap but it's also about the these application developers don't need the skills to be able to learn to suck up to five. We've taken that out. They need to focus on building the applications. Yeah, we threw our what we call our stock where to find Mobile eggs the apis enable, you know centralized control with distributed Edge data distributed Edge and it breaks out the data plan of the user claimed we have open and programmable fully automated, you know, and it's easy to not just configure but to reconfigure so it's scales and because it's offered as a service for very low cost of ownership. So your TCO as well. He also worked with what we call the makers, right? So we talked about, you know, the application developers and network programmers. So their Majors people that make sense but makers are also Enterprises, they make things themselves. So it's the it's the developers inside the the Enterprise but a big component of it our systems integrators a value-added reseller. So right who are offering services to Enterprises, so we work with them at least they're big part of the makers ecosystem two-page application so they can create wraparound services for their end-user customers. So they will be selling holidays and remember, you know, the the consumption mileage API. So as long as people are making applications that require calls to the 5G kpi, you know, that's the consumption model for us. So, how do your partner's Leverage The apis?.

"Are looking for alternative options. So we're providing a you know, there's so much technology now in the farming industry that smart agriculture can Leverage The Edge and this is part of the internet of things to do to improve performance and the outcome of their agriculture. And David to your point earlier with the rollout of 4G now 5G, it sounds like there probably will be things in vent to be invented with what you're doing. Correct, correct and other people in the industry and even some of the service providers have said that so there are things that we don't even know about because it's not available today. And that's what we're saying is you can get the 5 GHz or you can get 5ghz services today without waiting for the operator and waiting for 5G to be here. So, how do you sell internet? So very good question. So Edge net is sold as it's a platform-as-a-service offer. Okay, the it's a consumption-based month based on our 5G 8 Edge API. So we offer access to the internet platform to Enterprises through a portal and took that portal allows access to besides the edge API family and the monetization feature on station model is two API calls. So we provide access to em, yeah connectivity apis application developer apis with sdks so they can create these applications and then as Enterprises use these applications mujhe AAP I calls is what the is what we're really selling. Currently we've offered some reference design and reference products in the marketplace such as private Edge what we call our private Edge, which is really creepy a 5G Edge Network for an Enterprise. We offer a video enablement we offer Edge Branch. So one of the things we talked about earlier is I'm working from my home office off today because it was pandemic. So we've gone from basically, you know hundreds of Branch offices around around the country to tens of thousands of them because people are working from home. We need to be able to a highly secure. Um experience.

"This is the green and I'm the publisher of TR Publications. Today. We're going to be talking about some of the possibilities a 5G and I'm with David span of the Alice Edge David. Thank you for joining me today. I'll get good to be here. This is a very exciting. I guess we're going to be talking about some of the oncoming possibilities of some of the technologies that are coming our way. But first of all would've elovich. So all of edge is an edge Computing platform company or software company based in New York City with offices in India Brazil off. And in the US know you guys are are working on something called the 5G Edge internet. What is the edge internet or 5G internet? So the edge internet is a parallel universe the current Internet, you know, basically we're in the middle of this digital tectonic shift, right? So the next generation of the internet is really centered around decentralisation with Communications and Computing moving closer to the end user or to the edge, right? So that means to to the to the user. So when you combine this with the emergence of new technologies such as 5G, it's really changing the way people and things Engaged with what we commonly think of is the internet so like today everything centralized. So software workloads are all being distributed in that tells you matter with the edge. So that leads to a new breed of shared infrastructure architectures applications. So our platform allows access to that and ways to create and develop services for the 5G as Internet and you can you can launch and deploy them in minutes with what we call Edge net. Okay. What is that another term for the edge internet? So as net is a Computing delivery platform. Where the compute is that? Really basically a network of networks. So we have these these Edge sites located closer to the end users that are connected to each other off. We have connections and they have confute and Delivery at the edge and storage and they can also communicate with the with the internet as well. So we call a page one of the things we talked about is if the new class now, basically what it does is it allows you with high level of security the ability to deliver at with very high bandwidth and very low latency. And the way we do it you you can leverage your existing connectivity. So you don't have to wait for 5G to get those those off the value there and the Improvement in performance you use existing connectivity such as for G and Wi-Fi or here in the US cprs networks, so you get faster more reliable connection. Qualcomm stock drops despite earnings beat, 5G sales surge amid supply constraints
"After the battle, Qualcomm reported disappointing sales forecast the chip maker saying sales will be between 7.2 to $8 billion for the current quarter. Qualcomm's results for the last quarter did beat estimates. But some analysts were expecting more. And that's because the Apple, a major Qualcomm customer, reported surging iPhone revenue. Bloomberg's Ian King told us earlier that the company's performance was also occurred by supply constraints. Because of the pandemic. A lot of companies, particularly automakers, looked at the world and we're like, Oh, dear, the world is coming to an end. We're in, you know, collapsed. A. We need to shut down production. We need to shut down our orders with the council orders. So if you don't do that, then a couple of months later they are actually no, It's not looking quiet. But as I thought, that's what can I have Some more chips, please? Those things are not back on the shelves. Ready to go. Qualcomm count the outsources production to TSMC and Samsung and these air among the producers who have struggled to keep up with demand and some areas.
How The Pandemic Influenced 5G Use in Tele-Medicine
"So the coronavirus changed everything. How did products posed by the pandemic a shift the direction and the thinking about the use of five g as a solution to solve today's problems so that's a good question. I think i kind of have to answer hundred. Change the thinking about how we're gonna utilize digital solutions to provide care to people and we all had to turn on a dime over weekend in early march t to make that happen and you know for us. It may oh we'd had a long standing program digital healthcare but our implementation plan for people was really very much hand holding spoon fed to kind of implementation process where he would meet with each department to get them up to speed on that weekend in march. We suddenly develop a self help program with three major step so individual apartments could get going on their own and then in parallel we set up a a provider side call center to serve their needs when they ran into problems with the self help program so that was really how we had to go whole hog in terms of getting the whole institution using all of our products and services that we have at the center for connected care how that translates for the consumers which is really where the different broadband solutions of makes a difference is is is what we're going with this conversation. Obviously ad and five g does offer a lot of promise. I mean the fact that there is less lag. Faster speeds means that even these conversations where there's just that little bit of a of a pause when you and i speak to each other as those comedown it makes those conversations feel and more conversations we have in our offices are in our homes Said that will make the experience feel more natural for people the ability for more stable video and maybe with complementary data from a device you might be wearing to augment that video has has a bigger promise with a solution that offers in theory. You know one hundred x improvements in in Upload speed download speeds. So so. I think there's a lot of promise that way. And we'd happy to see come to fruition but i think there's also some realities that we talk about the promise versus what the current reality is And i think that there's some we can be excited but we have to take some cautionary tales as we enter into

I believe tree pandemic everyone was talking about digital transformation and we talked to that everybody will go through digital transformation. Everybody's planning board. What we've seen over. The last month is real time her information. When you're in the middle of a crisis we gotta see patients. They can't come into an office. Got to educate kids and they can't come into school environment when he watery magin entertainment. We've found all kinds of ways with the bronco system to reimagine. And i really do believe that. We've cut three four five years off of the planning cycle going from planning for digital transformation actually deployed digital transformation with our customers is. Verizon Business CEO on how 5G can solve the problems exposed by COVID-19
"The cross has changed everything. How do you. Prompt exposed by the pandemic shift direction of five g to make more of a solution to some today's problems. Yeah certainly covid has changed everything for all of us as we think about the impact of twenty twenty. What we're dealing with is going to twenty twenty one in what i would tell you. Rogers if anything is accelerated dramatically exhorted the forward motion of five gauge. As you know two years ago he s we announced the eight currencies five g. You don't be asset when rally on on powerpoint to concept to commercial scale ability and People of seeing the crab will requirements for. I work from home new models for telehealth in education transportation. It's really accelerated potential in capabilities. People are seeing or power affi- date so let's look until health service made it so folks were reluctant to go into doctor's offices fear of contracting covid nineteen so remote medical care medicine has been around for for years but really hasn't taken off in a real way patients and doctors alike. Were not super comfortable with it. House five g may tell best in more powell experience for people. He has so. I think there's a couple of things that have happened for straws. We think about where the delay really happened until medicine. It was than many providers couldn't be paid for services that were minister via telemedicine A different methodology versus face to face off the entire ecosystem is embraced telemedicine. Telehealth for verizon is very pointedly as became apparent to austin. Ruin care for boys. We work with our customers at the same time to say. How can we help. Redefine you models in a code environment. In one of those was telehealth the end Large apartment we do business within terms that healthcare space centered on for fifty visits to upwards of eighty five to ninety percent for general visits the nate. Now the silicate the telemedicine one of the really important asset for us in that process has been acquisition. Bluejeans we fire bluejeans a really great in collaboration platform back in may of twenty twenty answer. Hawaii the timing was not only for remote workers uses video collaboration tools for trial because it gives the patient the ability to work directly with their provider to have that video connection. Video in connection with a is very secure on louise platform something. That was really important in. Annaborough ecosystem is opened up to saying we'll support the financial capability associated with that. Which is insurance is paying for those visit so i think we really accelerated years what we thought to. I will take us five ten years to really pull that in reimagined models. One of these were doing. Now that i think is going to fuel a faster you begin to think about to see and you begin to think about how do you get. Some of those biometrics in might not otherwise. Get an in a remote and i is the beginning to build up people's healthcare her vials. You begin to work with the broader ecosystem understand. Who's the customer is. The patient is the provider is the administration. We're in having these follow customers based on the past five. Gb play really critical role because of the power of the capability five.
Why Is 5G Going to Work Out Better Than 4G?
"So talk about four g and having that contributed to closing the digital divide. But there's still lots of parts of the country where you know four g still isn't around the the folks still can't get a stakes accelerate connection what i can split the difference with five g that allows it to get wide range that can cover more people than even four g. could the. It's it's a complex question to answer. I think in general in general In a we need to continue to build coverage and operators did a very good job in a getting as much a reach boss will for g five is just starting in were in optimistic about the coverage expansion of five gene. Two thousand twenty one in we wanted to get much coveted four g but then the next question is how do we even make even broader than that and the reason i feel you know optimism about the coverage been larger in five g over time is because now five g is clearly understood by many nations as critical infrastructure is not that different in thinking about the power grid. is going to be an essential infrastructure as we gonna be in connect to society connected depend on connected with the cloud in as operators has also have new business models in addition to just false. The incentive is there to increase the reach of this technology. So you will take ears but we're off to a great start
5G talk will dominate a remote CES 2021
"I sent for the last two years but five g will play a big role at this year s. Now i make the argument that it'll be a huge the show because partly because it's remote and we're going to have a lot of hands on opportunities with devices and heavy hitters like google argue around. But what are you expecting from. The show goes five gene. I think we're going to start to see five g pop devices beyond phones. That's really been the focus right now. It's it's been five g phones which is kind of different than pass cellphone. Phone herb cellular network improvements where you've seen hot spots and tablets. I think it c- as we may actually start to see or at least. I'm hoping that we start to see pop up. In other devices two years ago verizon. Co hans vestberg had keno. We've talked about some of the different applications for five g. but a law that was experimental. Or conceptual eli. What are you expecting this year is hans is what second. Cs keynote three years. They are starting to become pretty much a regular at cas. That's what to expect. Verizon's been very vocal about it strategy. I mean all. The carriers have been pretty vocal about their respective strategies. I'm curious to see if they announced new five cities they at the end of twenty twenty past the sixty millimeter wave cities that they promised they would hit the just got that in before the end of the year. Do we see more cities coming from them more promises of cities or even announcements of cities already. All the carriers have been working on their five g buildouts. Cs aquino there would be a good time to announce a network upgrade or to announce that dave increase our coverage. They still trail t mobile as far as a footprint for five g. so maybe some announcements there and possibly i guess demos or ideas of what five g could really offer to not just consumers but also businesses. It'll be what he shows as far as what for rising views five g. sba so beyond baraza. What are the other carriers. Doing that is a great question. They've all been relatively quiet. Seemingly giving cbs in the focus that comes with a virtual see. Yes to verizon. They haven't been terribly flashy as far as giving keynote spotter touting big events. It'll be interesting to see what they're doing but so far they seem to be at least right now laying low. We'll see if that changes over the next week right the other big news that we're expecting which isn't technically part of but samsung will be holding its unpacked event next week on wednesday the last day at sea as again while it's not officially part of the show cats same audience and it's there will expect to see the launch the galaxy s twenty online likely or very assuredly. Five will play a big part of that. I'm curious if we're expecting any other devices. You sort of hit that. So the top of the segment. What else are we going to see. Well i'm hoping we'll start to see five g again. Appear in other types of devices whether it's laptops or tablets or internet of things connected connected devices. Interestingly enough t mobile believe it was just the other day announced their cheapest. Five g phone yet. The oneplus nord en ten. Five geeta heck of a name out. It will cost three hundred dollars last year at cs. Fries ruin induna. One of the heads of their or the head of their wireless division told us that they were targeting for twenty twenty to get a four hundred dollar phone and now you have t mobile before this year. Cbs coming out with a three hundred dollar. Five g phones. So maybe we'll start to see some more affordable five g devices. That would be nice.
NYSE does a U-turn on Chinese telecoms delistings
"New york stock exchange announced. It will no longer delist china. Telecom china mobile and china unicom last week. The exchange trading stocks would be suspended on january seventh ahead of a full delisting to be in compliance with an executive order that forbid trading of shares in companies tied to the chinese military. The exchange did not say what changed in terms of compliance to that executive order other than to say it will continue to evaluate the applicability of the order to those companies
German government backs bill requiring 5G security pledge
"Germany approves use of alway five g gear. Chancellor angela merkel's cabinet approved a bill that would allow for the continued use and expansion of five commitment from alway. The bill requires vendors to give assurances that network equipment is safe to use with the ability to issue stiff fines for any breaches. The bill also requires network vendors and operators to give german security agencies technical and legal means to monitor network integrity. The bill now requires parliamentary approval. China is germany's largest trading partner and china's ambassador in germany has previously warned of trade consequences. If while we received an outright ban in the country.
Top 2020 questions: "Why all the hype about 5G?"
"Today we're talking about five g. because the question is what's the big deal about five g doesn't seem any faster. I don't understand rob. Is that what you're been hearing a lot from people to absolutely and if you wanted to blame anybody for that question it's the wireless carriers and everybody around. The industry have been saying for years is changed everything it will allow saw driving. Cars robot surgery in reality. You know it's still the same problem. Deploying coverage across the really big country and the very fastest flavor five turns out is the hardest lawn to deploy at any sort of scale. Now i should say. I'm t mobile. Customer in. my phone says five g but you would never know it because it does. It's just different from what i had with four g. Let me ask you the big question rob because the carriers when you ever you confront them on this this sell you but it's gonna be better next year. It's going to be way better next year. what's your take. do you think it's next year. Do you think it's twenty twenty two You know hope springs eternal. But i think there is. There are grounds for options next year. Okay so we're we're looking towards mid twenty twenty one then but don't hold me to that when i say may twenty twenty one could be late. Twenty twenty one early twenty twenty two. We all know how many surprises this year has had. Would you say if we had. Tim cook on the line about the all the stuff. The words that they put in those ads about selling the iphone and how much faster it was going to be with five. G what would you say to him. I'd say find out on their own. How good or how. Bad five g is and making millimeter. Wave at the heart of your sales pitch is setting up the customer for disappointment when you know there. There's a lot of other interesting things about the new iphones. The fact that they do support all these different frequencies in should at least will use some of the new frequencies coming out next year. That to me is much more interesting. The problem is target cell phone. In terms of. This'll be awesome in eighteen months. Then this might be awesome. If you're in the exact rate street corner we should also say that samsung's hype is just as a as outrage. They're all bad at this. Yeah all right so five g wise my five g not so great. Well now you know because it's going to be better hopefully sometime in the
UK bans installation of Huawei 5G equipment from September
"The uk previously announced the purchase of five g Equipment from weiwei was banned after twenty twenty with carries having until two thousand twenty seven to actually install the equipment however under a proposed telecommunications security bill scheduled to be introduced to parliament telco's would have until september twenty twenty one to install equipment of the existing equipment can be maintained through twenty twenty seven the proposed law would also give the government power to identify network equipment as a national security risk and ban its use in domestic networks and power to issue fines of up to ten percent of annual turnover for noncompliance. The government will also invest two hundred fifty million pounds behind five g diversification. Plan to grow the telco supply chain and increase competition

"Picks up her water bowl equals a lot training tip. Number two train one trick at a time. Both dogs and algorithms are really only good at one thing at a time. So if you immediately try to teach a dog to sit in a loud Park from 26 feet away, it's a hopeless Venture off. Do you have to train each one of those three things individually before you ever start putting them together and by the time you're putting it together, you're really putting together multiple individual tricks. It's not one drink Keira can a dog be trained to be great at sniffing out drugs and Truffles and be a great athlete. Generally if you want an expert in any one of those cases you're going to specify in just one sport or one area a dog can be a jack-of-all-trades, but sometimes to the detriment of everyone of those Sports, so you want a dog to be the best he can be as a drug-sniffing dog you teach him only that one thing in the same thing is true with an algorithm. You can't make one algorithm that is good for everything off. You can't make an algorithm that's good for brand lift and driving online conversions and driving in store traffic and driving completed video views because those are all very different things that each wage or a different algorithm with different training data. One reason algorithms can't replace humans is because they don't have the reasoning that humans do so they lack the ability to put multiple things together all at once. Algorithms are good at one thing but that one thing they can hone better than any human or even better than any group of humans. There's a great term for what happens. If you try to teach an algorithm a second thoughts. It's called catastrophic forgetting basically, if you take an algorithm you try to expand it to do something new the algorithm immediately forgets the first thing that learned that's true dogs to keep Point here. If you see claims that an algorithm is great at a lot of things that's a red flag each thing. It's supposedly good at needs to be evaluated individually dead. Training tip number three training is never done both dogs and algorithms are extremely perceptive much more so than humans they pick up on Tiny differences or variations. And if there are major changes, you might have to just start over that means you have to constantly be retraining both. So for a dog if you train your dog to sit and then you get comfortable and you assume the dog knows how to sit and you stop rewarding the dog for sitting the dog will eventually stop sitting because it'll think well sitting doesn't get me a treat. He never done training. It's a constant process of reinforcement. So the environment that your dog was initially trained in will never remain exactly the same. So we have to give them updated feedback all along the way for example, if you have a child and you initially trained your dog how to behave around that baby as the baby grows a, New Jersey It's to walk and talk and full Tails. You're going to have to keep giving feedback to your dog on how you want the dog to react algorithms are the same in the sense that the market is always changing even if they use humans don't perceive small differences for instance. The differences in the way bid requests look in the programmatic universe from one month to the previous or the week of Valentine's Day versus the week before Valentine's Day ordering covid-19. Preco. Algorithms can see the difference. So with an algorithm you have to keep feeding it data or will stop learning and at some point it will be irrelevant an effective program isn't a one-time thing. It's a complex ongoing initiative always questioning doubting re-evaluating and optimizing in a search for perfection. Training tip number for positive reinforcement in dog training learning occurs with successes. So if you're training a dog to do a trick, maybe a shake hands off and you're trying and he doesn't do it and you're trying he doesn't do it and he doesn't do it at the end of five minutes. What does that dog learned? He's learned nothing the dog only learns if he gets his success, but he gets rewarded. That's why in every stage of dog training you said goal is small enough so that the dog can achieve them. We want the dog to have a ton of positive outcomes. So he can make an association between cause and effect and start to find a pattern algorithms are exactly the same. Let's say you're training an algorithm on online conversions and the conversion rate is 2% of clicks with a click-through rate of perhaps a point five percent. Although that's not outrageous for online conversions that calculates to a very small percentage of AD Impressions mixing metaphors here if you're training on a small dog, Number of events and there are only a few needles or positive conversions in the haystack. The algorithm isn't going to work very well because it doesn't see enough positive outcomes to find strong patterns. So if Haystack needles are rare, you need bigger Haystacks finding those Haystack needles is the positive reinforcement algorithms need to learn. Training tip number five the training has to be consistent both dogs and algorithms know only what they've been shown so it's critical that the training data set is a truth set and it has to be consistent. For instance. If you teach your dog one day that sitting gets in retreat, but the next day you forget to give them a treat when you sits he's going to get confused and you won't get the results you're looking for you have to be very consistent. If your dog is not allowed to jump on you when you're wearing good clothes and you shouldn't be allowed to jump on you when you're wearing play closed. This consistency should make it easier for him to learn what happens if you're not consistent like everything in life who going to get out of it what you put into it. So garbage in garbage out, right the best song animal trainers are the ones that are not sloppy but instead think through what it is that they want and how they're going to get it algorithms are the same and the surest way to know that your training data is consistent job. Is ensuring it's the truth having a truth set is a huge differentiator in the marketplace all end. There's a key principle here blame the trainer or the data not the a lot of them. Well, there's a saying in dog training. It's always the trainers fault. Thank you so much for joining us. Thanks for having me Jake. It was a pleasure. By the way, if you've got a dog and these years you probably do be sure to pick up Kiros new book The Joy of dog training. It's a thorough Book of Rules for training your dog. Kira's way simple step-by-step and positive. Dogs and algorithms can learn pretty much anything you can train a dog to attack people if you really want to and the same is true for an algorithm. You can train an algorithm to create fraud to spread malware, for example, just as effectively as you can teach it to detect fraud or fight malware when you see an algorithm that's not performing the way you want it to perform remember it's not about bashing algorithms and good algorithms. It's about the quality of the training set and the quality of the trainer surface-level stuff. Okay, so diversity one-trick at a time continuous training.

"Through those. Environments. Okay. One thing we're really excited about here in a Modo is since we interviewed Jeremy Lock Corn on an earlier episode of the podcast you actually decided to join emoto and Jeremy is now a member of the EMOTO team. My primary role is focused on strategic partnerships managing a critical relationships we have with mobile operators around the world. So super excited to be here and thanks for having me back from podcast Jeremy. On earlier episodes, we discussed the need for prominent retailers to be aggressive in investing in five G. inside their walls as a way to differentiate, and also to optimize the supply chain. Have we seen any examples? I. Think it's super early days of course and. We have this pandemic causing all sorts of disruptions around the world and in every business sector. But yeah, we are seeing some action in terms of retailers investing and Building Five G. infrastructure inside their stores. I would consider them to be experiments at this point. There's some interesting momentum there to that caught my eye would be Walmart Verizon are in conversations about a potential partnership where Walmart will outfit a few test stores with five G. Connectivity powered by Verizon. which would fuel or merely healthcare services that Walmart is planning to roll out as part of a broader suite of services, the tear exploring complement, their core retail business i. think that's really interesting through a lot of reasons in addition to powering the healthcare services that is the primary target of this. You can totally imagine if five G. activity being used in other ways to, for example, enhanced the in store experience for shoppers, the momentum reality or whatever else may be, but then also drive more efficient store operations. You think about security cameras and football analysis on those kinds of things that can be. Enhanced by five gene activity, and then the other example which is a little bit more real world in than they've already got some tests.

"But I think the tipping point will come when five G. which has a very strong Kabibi Component WanNa make that clear for the audience five G. works also behind the scenes to transform business models of industries industries within their value chains. So rather than just being an end consumer I go buy a phone. That's a five G. enable phone. We may scratch your head going well. What's the big deal here interesting? The big deal will happen. Probably within the walls of business to business environments so for example five G. will transform the value chains of the various components of the media delivery experience from the production and the creation of the content to distributing it ways that are for more localized personalized than they are today. So we may just look at it and say wow I have a five g apple phone. It's pretty amazing. Now what I can do with that that to make content more relevant to me wherever I am on the multiple screens that are surrounding the. If not glasses that might be wearing and I think that it will be a moment. We'll go okay. Now we all get. I think you're GONNA see businesses and technologies right now that are struggling to reach scale. Bill were five G.. Next generation wired access networks will finally helped businesses flourish that could be in VR right in some of these industrial applications. Insult machine learning. I would consider to be far. More transformational technologies then virtual reality but I. I also think that over time what we consider a feature in five G. as an example is actually fixing a fundamental problem that will allow technologies that previously were deployed Loyd and failed a second breath I would actually encourage people to dust off you know. Pick your ten favorite startups that having succeeded because technology and say say if I gave you access to ten thousand locations around the world with a better more performing last mile network is your business fly and I think we will find some for those companies where our networks where limitation to scale. There.

"They'll have more and more valuable data running through their pipes. They'll be depended on for the implementation of the edge cloud that's necessary to take advantage of five. JEEZ low latency they're potentially the best source of deterministic device linking information and lastly potentially be the ideal centralized home of consumer consent one way to leverage five G. to make a memorable impact is timing. Let the conversation all that. Consumer anticipation worked for you before five G. goes was Maine Stream while it's exciting. Be a part of the transition. Be a part of the next five G. conversations the ones about the new five G. experienced as it's being in discovered before the five G. Tipping Point as we worked on this podcast asked number of our guests what they thought may be the trigger for that tipping point when five if g becomes mainstream here are few of their thoughts. I actually think the adoption rate for five G. is mostly going to be determined by two to organic trans out there. One is just replacement cycles so people I think will opt to buy five G.. The prices competitive with four g phones or what for gene funds are now as they replaced funds. So I think that's that's going to drive a lot of the five G.. Uptick before you really see these killer APPs. He's color user experiences. Sousse develop of network areas is going to be a second driver of that and then I think you're going to start saying these really transformative experiences in a couple. Oh years which is going to convince some of the the laggards that okay. Maybe my phone's not totally ready for replacement but I'm going to buy a five G. phone anyway because that's the only way I'm going to have this experience. I think where you're going to see that I is probably in most likely games. Possibly augmented reality. You were mixed reality. I could see that being sort of the earliest use cases that are really transformed by Pfizer. Capabilities I.

"Aw are i think the vast majority of consumers don't care that much but i actually think think that marketers and publishers absolutely do care and because they're real fines in real threats to the outcry here in the media people people don't actually care about privacy i don't think most people care that much let's talk five jeep and welcome to five the podcast the breakdown five g. for marketers this is episode take five live i'm jake moskowitz this episode was recorded live on stage on tuesday september twenty fourth orth during advertising week in new york for this episode we wanted to take the five g. discussion out of the studio out of the single topic format to have a broader conversation asian out in the marketing world as you'll hear we had some great guests with us and instead of asking the questions this time around i got a chance to answer a few the guy wearing the moderator had is jeremy kaplan here's jeremy jeremy kaplan i am the editor in chief of digital trends if you're unfamiliar with digital trends where a lot like scene technology review site except for we're seeing that's younger cooler hip or cousin who kind of came in from europe everybody like more so he stuck around a little bit about like seeing that we review a lot of products we help to clear the clutter and ancic cut through the confusion for people living in a very digital world these days it becomes really complex and that's what our expertise is is is just cutting through the confusion and helping understand things nothing could possibly be more confusing than five g. in fact quick show of hands there was probably got a cell phone on the right right that when using a cell phone i imagine this one or two people who are using cell phones maybe it's just me that's insane anybody using a five g. phone right now not so much it's an emerging technology but i think one that is really transformative and means an awful lot for a lot of different industries including the advertising and marketing space which we're going to dig into here here on this podcast today and some friends of mine jeremy lock horne former VP of experience strategy for mobile emerging technology at agency sapient razer fish and mike munro the ceo of who gentlemen come on join us please and so where to dig into five g. book four we do why don't you guys take a few minutes to introduce yourselves and tell us a little about who you warn when you do sure germ corn formerly of sapient razor fish i was there for just over twenty years and i left about a year ago to start my own consulting nothing business modeled after my named after my twitter handle my longtime twitter handle a new media geek so i'm running firm called new mitigate consulting a lot of work with brands and around emerging technologies and what changes they need to implement in order to prepare for the disruptions that will be wrought by things like five g. and then also helping technology companies startups in big companies like you know find a path into partnership with brands mike moreau m. the CEO of habu it say a one to one personalization platform for marketers enables the two way communication between marketers and consumers been in data for a long time prior to habu which is adjust formerly launching now i was with crocs for about six years so been really rolling deepen data for a number of years and also i'll just add a little bit to what i mentioned before my name is jake i worked for a company called erickson emoto which is a subsidiary the of ericsson ericsson is the is the major telecommunications infrastructure provider that enables the cellular communications of phones eighty percent of traffic in the US on mobile phones run through ericsson equipment and emoto is focused on monitoring the data that runs through those pipes to improve the quality of advertising retiring in the marketing industry and i oversee data strategy and also the moto institute which is the thought leadership element of emoto and that's the area that produces this podcast so five g. obviously one more than four g. so it's better right but it's obviously a lot more than that there's latency involved authors pervasive computing there's wireless this and that maybe you guys could take a few minutes to walk through what exactly five g. is it's more than just your cell phone right yeah i actually think five g. is terrible misnomer in some ways because of what you just said people immediately assume that it's sort of you the same difference between five g. and four g. is similar to the difference between four g. and three g. but really five g. as a whole new way to think about how your phone communicates to the infrastructure because the latency issue it's not really just about the speed it's about the responsiveness and that's what's going to allow real time experiences which is what's going to change what consumer experiences look look like in the future i think about five g. s kind of a three legged stool one leg being the speed which is what gets most of the night to your point the second like being low latency to get a little technical the four g. spec hits around seventy milliseconds latency the five g. spec is self one millisecond the second latency right so you're very near real time and then the third is that the spec is calling for ten times the number of simultaneous device support minimum right so every four g. not can support deport one device let's say every five denotes should be able to support tin simultaneous devices and of course those are just samples so when you you put those through three three things together it is much bigger than the change from three g. to four g. it's a different step change for sure in the number of devices that will be contributing and data for marketers uses just exponentially higher and i think you know as we think about things like personalization is all marketers do the more data into the more real time quality data the better and five g. really opens up a whole new door to marketers look at if i could there's there's a fourth pillar there which is up positioning and accuracy which kind of gets overlooked in the entire picture because latency is important speeds obviously transformative but for most experiences with your phone today we live on GPS and GPS is not very accurate and if you're talking about fifty applications and vehicles for example one thing the industry is very excited about you really i need to precisely where your car is elaine relative to the vehicle next yours or else there is little accident potential so positioning becomes very important and it's something we're to talk about here here because obviously where exactly you are as a very relevant data point for advertisers marketers so let's talk a little bit about what you can do with five abbvie and i guess maybe the question is it even possible to predict where this technology is going because this is a very transformative underlying technology nut just to sell your thing but if you if you you're the industry and you believe the hype this is going to transform everything we do i for one don't like hype hype around five g. but anyway why is it possible to predict based on some of this hype in this speculation what people are gonna start doing with five g. what is it going to mean a having gone to two big trade shows over the last three or four years like mobile world congress in CAS a lot of infrastructure providers at those shows have been demonstrating strating various use cases for five g. and it's a lot of what you hear in the hype cycles you know like higher resolution video that downloads is much more quickly better augmented reality better virtual reality connected vehicles and vehicles and you know all of those things but it but i think when you when you really start to have conversations with with folks at those companies and ask them like really what does the future hold i think they recognize recognize it common set of use cases they're fairly obvious but then there's a whole bunch of stuff that like just nobody has dreamed up yet and we saw that seem step change happen again and we moved from three jada four g. and it just enabled all kinds of companies to to disrupt businesses around the world you know like rideshare for example and streaming video over mobile connections all of that you know yes it was probably possible under three g but the scale and scope and you know better technology behind four g. really kind of those things up and like if you would ask somebody in the three d. j. three three days you know what's four g you going to do i don't know that they would have said it's is gonna want uber exploding ten second videos race efforts to steer technologies often end up in failure sure i was thinking back to when DVD's first launched in one of the big feature they hadn't DVD's with the ability to switch between multiple camera angles so you're watching pulp fiction or the usual suspects or something you push a button and you can see it from a different angle which almost never happened no one ever actually used despite the fact baked into the into the spec from the get-go so maybe it's it's just impossible to say what's actually going to happen i do think so and i think part of the reason is because five g. is not going to fix problems on its own that it requires requires a lot of complementary technologies in order to thrive five g. cell tower on its own isn't gonna make that much of an impact is not going to make your forged phones super fast you need a five g. phone you know the website the you're trying to access has to implement its infrastructure differently to enable the kinda latency that's possible with five g. you need totally new AR VR goggles you need AI models that leverage all those new data data points that you mentioned mike so that's the other things it's especially hard to predict what five g. will do because it's dependent on so many other technologies in some ways five g. is really just an enabling enabling technology for these other technologies may have been around for awhile but may not have thrived because five g. didn't exist yet yeah i mean they have to be able to catch what what you're pitching and that's always an issue and you have new emerging technology any the legacy systems have to be able to process new data and really catch catch what you're pitching these can take years for all of the existing industries to catch up but it definitely opens up so many opportunities for new innovative companies to come in and disrupt well let me just put a line in the sand here one thing we could sit up here and do as hyper you guys what we've heard and a lot of companies talk about five g. and they said well it's going to be transformative you're going to have these augmented reality experiences that are astonishing you're going to have self driving vehicles and you're able to do whatever you want because you've got five g. in there air and you can sit back and you'll be have you know they'll tell you about the things that you're passing by marketing director ucar look i think it's very practical for us or for you to hear here that i'd like us to stay away from some of the pie in the sky hype around the stuff is talk a little bit more specific things because i think there are some very specific things that five g. directly enables else which can be enabled today can impact the marketing advertising experiences we have one thing that seems really obvious is we talked about the great bandwidth delivery video video right so immediately you can have that what sort of an impact does that have on the web experience right now you have a programmatic experience where there's tons of pixels and a few seconds of downloads just stuff and i think five g. should eliminate all of that and really make a lot of our web browsing experience seamless right is is going the do that is going to improve things on that level not by itself yeah i mean you know to jake's point earlier yeah the bandwidth is going to be faster than the latency is going to be lower lower but if the if we don't adapt to the infrastructure and reduce things like tag blowed in the number of hops in ad request has to go through five gbs not gonna i saw that it's still browser processing time and you know all kinds of other infrastructure stuff that five years designed to fix so yeah i i think we've got to work together as an industry because what's going to happen is the user is not going to you know doesn't really care about the programmatic you know supply chain and how many hops the ad it has to go through to get on the phone they know that they can download a four k..

"Pulled Duncan defy the podcast that breaks down five G. for marketers. This is episode seven the end of consumer columnist. I'm Jake Moskowitz these days more than eighty percent of digital advertising transacted and executed pro grammatically. It's become such a standard part of everyday advertising. It's easy to lose sight of all the companies these technologies innovation and data that connect and operate behind the scenes to make it work. It's really pretty remarkable and in an effort to follow buyers here's off of managed service models ad tech vendors continue to streamline self-service processes and user experiences as issues like view ability brand on safety and fraud became too big to ignore the industry eventually rallied to chip away at those threats but programmatic has another issue. That's been brewing in the background for several years. Some believe five G. will fix it. Others believe five G. will make it worse. Both can't be true. Let's talk about what we're talking about. The programmatic ecosystem is thick with issues that bogged down issues that slow consumer experiences and access to the Ad ad-supported Internet most programmatic buyers no this publishers are very aware consumers may or may not realize the cause but most experienced Syrian the effect in fact they often respond to slow loading web pages by taking steps to avoid slow sites an adobe survey in two thousand eighteen showed showed content being too slow to load the number one reason that drives consumers to either stop what they're doing or switch devices higher even than a site not working the publishers have expressed concern and frustration about abandonment and the growing adoption of AD blockers among consumers according to Deloitte twenty percent of mobile users say they use an adblocker on their mobile phone computer. Ad Blocking is even higher..

"The problem is every single one of those is going to require a very elementary basic consent from the user and and as you can imagine that could complicate the user experiences well what's happened to data in programmatic vendors in europe as a result result of g._d._p. Are so there was a lot of doom and gloom before it a lot of hype and and honestly there aren't as many third party data data suppliers in the marketplace anymore especially in europe <hes> especially those that did clearing houses of multiple sources. Maybe couldn't track iraq consent or didn't have the ability to get consent art in the marketplace anymore. Maybe not just because they couldn't get compliant but because because the advertisers in the brands are getting very smart about doing due diligence on their vendors and the data that's being used to process their campaigns so i think a lot of the programmatic vendors took the laws really seriously and the whole i e transparency and consent framework was was formed and i mean if you look at it almost every single player in the ecosystem is on that list and has committed to that framework high numbers of traffic are getting consent. I say that though with kind of a caveat we still come across and i know other vendors still still come across those that aren't compliant or may say they're compliant or even put it in their literature and in fact they're not being g._d._p. Are combined. It is a huge undertaking so i think the message is. I don't think the doom and gloom was as bad. We're seeing a lot of the traffic comeback <hes> a a lot of vendors that maybe weren't ready as of may now have made some focused efforts and projects to be able to make themselves but i think the ending this is we need to continue to see these due diligence and i think the advertisers and the brands need to continue to keep the the foot on the pedal of making sure that their vendors and things are compliant <hes> okay last question so what what do you think we've learned that we can extrapolate to the upcoming california privacy law and the potential of future more stringent privacy laws in the united united states..

"Their digital marketing but even for those who've mastered today's ECOMMERCE techniques five G. may open up some new frontiers. You know obviously once you experience five G. It's breathtaking. It's like how much faster everything is how much better the experiences and I don't think that people who haven't experienced it can really wrap their heads around how different it is but I actually think the barriers to more digital shopping on consumers is more on the user experience in mobile all is only so much real estate and retailers just have not figured out how to maximize its potential in what they present to consumers so I think those are actually bigger barriers than download speeds or page load speeds or responsiveness of Nisar any of that kind of thing more than fifty percent of the traffic that comes to a retailer dot com property comes from mobile as the format as opposed to the full desktop experience but the conversion rate for mobile is <hes> for some retailers as much as half of the conversion rate that they get online an online is about a tenth of the conversion rate that retailers get in stores so the the conversion rate in stores is the bar for convincing a consumer to buy something <hes> you know it's in the thirty to forty percentile on kind of range and then it's like three to five percents on a desktop experience and it's maybe one to two percent on a mobile experience so the <hes> the issue can sometimes be page loads and retailers often pile a bunch of stuff on their websites that kind of bring that performance down and that is something saying that five G. would definitely help address but I think more so it's the the shopping experience and just being able to search and find products find what you're looking for understand you know all the elements of what you want to know about a product in order to feel confident buying it. All of those things are the things that are getting in the way more so I think than page performance for example Michael. Another important factor in this shift is voice because when I searched for something by voice as opposed to when I text into a rouser the importance of something being the first listing it grows tremendously. Endlessly and the stickiness of products may go higher then maybe the model for retail changes to the point where you're willing to spend more to get somebody locked in on your product because of how sticky they are once they're on dot product. I think in general search rankings are growing more important whether they be voice search rankings retail site search rankings Google or other places that have a search within the we are less inclined because we spent less time on everything to go beyond the first page of search rankings more often than not your point the sponsored search rankings which implies we're seeing this increased competition for paying for the top keywords the words or utterances as well as <hes> <hes> you know sort of more emphasis on that as being a focus not only from a from a paid and Ross perspective but also from Inorganic and content optimization perspective doc <hes> as it relates to voice I specifically I it's more of a repurchase technology than purchase signage and it really is very category specific around what we're willing to purchase even if it is <hes> recommended or suggested by the voice provider more often than not though a first time purchase. We're GONNA WANNA see we're GONNA take a look at ratings and reviews even watch video on it and that's why you know you've got things like the Amazon Echo show and other devices that are coming out people want to see in addition to voice Iraq so it's very convenient technology at it can be on its best day a great way to automate the repurchase experience in this way with this level of frequency but but by the way where I'm going is frequency management it is a big deal for both brands and retailers and we don't even think about that today but I can't wait for us to start getting into understanding the natural repurchase frequencies of our customers by segment and starting to manage to full marketing programs around the segments. I think that's really exciting. That's all enabled by some of the automation of five G. enables.

"Same way they did ten years ago even twenty years ago that's where five g. clemson yori wurmser is principal analyst emarketer you may remember him from earlier episodes his extensive research search for marketers has covered retail and mobile including five g. retailer you has differs from the rest of the world than that the u._s. is way over stored and over retail and always has been the u._s. is it has always been a very consumer driven model with a ton more retail stores out there i think is amazon is taken off and more e commerce has taken off retailers are realizing that they have too many stores so that said physical stores are are still going to be important and they will without doubt have to transform to find your place within a world where amazon is out there where walmart is investing billions and billions of dollars in its ecommerce platform target as well the whole old retail ecosystem has to change five g. i think is going to help in that because part of what the physical retail experience has to do it has to become more connected to the online experience and it also has to become more interactive so for the online experience mobile apps for your best users i think can become really interactive with the store experience you can use it for augmented reality within the store based on your phone i think five g. could be great for that you can have richer experiences within retail apps you can have remote retail where people can actually size themselves by scanning their you know what they're wearing and get accurate sizing <music> i will make e-commerce lot more possible will also make returns less common and finally within the retail store you can make an actual store a lot more interactive by having you know smart mirrors augmented reality experiences within the store for the rely on on really high throughput and one final thing <hes> that retail stores also have capacity constraints under internal that works i think five g. will go a long way to solving that and what that does is it lets in store door users have richer experience.

"They don't exist generally that may sound for now like you can push five G out of your peripheral vision. But there are some important details. At lost the hype and generalizations if you're involved in marketing or advertising, these details are pretty important. Intel communications circles five jeez claims to fame are numerous. It's faster has lower latency and has greater reliability capacity efficiency and scale ability, how much better we talking about and reality? Is that is both evolution revolution? At the same time. That's Peter Linder Ericsson's, head of marketing for five G in North America. Why not go to the source to find out what's different about five G? Right. If you can sing so revolutionary with five years before his figures are significant beyond what we have been and seeing in the past, it's a revolution of zen is not owning a consumer device striving. What's driving? The hold five. Mortices egr important is, is out of support businesses digital transformation and the spectrum it's way more spectrum than we have or have had access to any mobile application in the past. So there's the number different parameters that.

"Different between four g and five g and what's the impact on devices and the change in the ecosystem that needs to support these devices today? We are living in a world where we talk about our phones smartphones smart devices in general. And we talk about the network of something providing junior verse connectivity, so on different devices obligations. Get excited the same thing, and then all the apps are at the other end typically very, very centralized. The deliver of absorb phones is a centralized phenomenon as we move with five G few things happen, the execution of especially before most critical applications on moving close to subscribers. We refers to that movement as you will edge computing mobile edge computing. But it's all about bringing the execution of those application close closer to the subscribers. We do that. The same time as networks become way better in terms of speed and capacity and provides a lot lower latency that speed and capacity in combined with the computing, could log transition to lean devices device, source smaller lighter cheaper because we have moved off some of the compute.
