How Many People Are Killed In "Mass Shootings" Every Year?

"Many people are killed in mass shootings in the U.S. every year Now what is Pew Research say They say this is a difficult question to answer because there's no single agreed upon definition of the term mass shooting Definitions can vary depending on factors including the number of victims and the circumstances of shooting So you notice how the media uses whatever variables at once because it's pushing gun control Not human safety Not public schools safety We need to take the language back We want to protect our kids We want to protect our grandkids We want to protect everybody's kids This isn't going to do it When 3% of the weapons used and murders including suicides 3% are so called assault weapons We need an assault weapons ban We had when it didn't work So the FBI collects data on active shooter incidents which had defined as quote one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area Using the FBI's definition 38 people this isn't 2020 Excluding the shooters died in such incidents in 2020 The gun violence archive and online database of gun violence incidents in the U.S. defines mass shootings and incidents in which four or more people are shot even if no one was killed again excluding the shooters Using this definition 513 people died in these incidents in 2020 I mean so we get from 5 13 to 38

"Flew out of for a while. I used to fly there and get me some Jack in the box, 11 o'clock at night, and then fly back into our EU. That was done. I used to have a lot of dates late night dates in the air, going to conquered Wilmington and Carolina beach. Let me stop. Anyways, I was back in the day. Anyways, one question I always get as this is a little general aviation pilots people ask me, you know, they've probably flying on them, say, oh, acme or Ajax or something like that, and pilots both eat the fish. They become incapacitated. Could I go up there and could I land that airplane? And I tell people, yes. Yes, I could. It's an airplane. They all fly the same, right? I don't necessarily say that. I tell them that there's a series of things that I can do up there to make sure that we all are successful in our landing and we are able to walk away. I can't promise the damn thing about the airplane, but we'll get down and we'll walk away. They fly a little big airplanes and kind of fly a little different. Not too different, but a little different. There are planes. One of the things that I would do and you guys can put your 5 cents into it, I'm just put my two cents into it, you know, just add a couple more. One of the things I would do is they asked me if I didn't ask everybody on board, yes. I'm pilot. I would ask and see if there's another pilot who is as qualified as me or better. And then I would say, hey, look, if you are, if you fly a Lear jet on a regular basis, you can go ahead and sit on the left. And I sit on the right and we'll work this together. But you're more qualified than me. Than me. So you're in charge. The other thing would be if there is no other annual only one. Then, you know, we'll get through it. I've definitely get on the radio. I leave the airplane as is for the time being, get on the radio, see where the pilots left, the radio frequency on last. Try and highlight somebody where there's a center controller or God forbid we're out over the middle of the Atlantic at switch over to one to 1.5 because I know somebody's farting in the microphone and on the air and screwing around on guard. There's a quick messing around. I got a problem. And try and get them to relay some messages on the HF because I had no idea how to use that thing. Or see if they can relate some messages on cell call or whatever 8 card. I don't know. It's above my pay grade. I don't know. Get some help. Try and find somebody on the frequency that is flying the same airplane as me. As well. That can walk me through programming the FMC because I am not going to try and touch quite controls but I can get to all the way up until I have to and that's where landing and even then I'm going to have somebody walk me through doing a cat three approach cat three C approach somewhere close by quickly. Fast. So yeah, that's what I would do. I'd figure out how to use a PA system to tell everybody getting their seats to stay in their seat, do not get up. Because it would be smart for them to do that. It would be smart for them to listen at least once. One thing I can't stand after the pilot turns on a faster seatbelt signs. People get up and then go to the bathroom. That's a signal. Let's see about signs are coming on and might as well just get up and go to the restroom right now. No, do not do that. They see things that you don't. Sit your butt down and don't get up. There's a good video on Instagram about that that I posted money on probably saw. Anyways, yeah, it started talking. It gets some information and find the QR just in case it's going to take me a while to find somebody to talk to that will help me get the airplane down. I'm, I feel like I would be comfortable with hand flying the airplane on final approach if I have absolutely have to. Depending on the airport, like say if we're going to an airport that does not have an iOS, or an L nav arnett, il nav approach. Or if it is a VOR approach or something like that that I have to fly, I'm not instrument rated by any means, but I ain't stupid neither. You know, try and get the autopilot to fly as much of the approaches as it can. And then take action when need be. Definitely let them know that it's an emergency and I'm going to do whatever I got to do to get down onto the ground. Okay? Skill and pilot and still know the rules. Okay, that was a long drawn out explanation of things that I would do. Tell me if any of that makes sense. Give me some feedbacks and pointers..

"Track for the student that had open throttle. Wide throttle. I've actually only flown into Watsonville once when I was living in San Jose. With pilot ralo. I was riding in the back while he was practicing some instrument approaches in the Watsonville, it's probably about a couple of years ago. And then I never got his name. And I never saw him again until weaver actually in OshKosh. And I looked at him and he looked at me. I was like, oh, hey, I know you. I was like, oh yeah, you too. Have fun with you. I don't know what the damn name is. But we became good friends after that. Great guy. He is now a naval officer. And he's going to be riding in the back of your growler or an FA 18 F. But yeah, good guy. Good guy. So yeah, that was a great job by the controllers, a great job by the students going to one two 1.5 when he had an emergency. It was great that people were actually up and listening in. You got struck gold when he got a flight instructor there. Two situations that terrified me is losing an engine and having an engine that just wide a hell opener. That scares me. That's terrifying. I never want to experience that. But I learned something from that. So it was great to hear that. I hate that it happened to him, but I learned, and I think many a thousands of other pilots who listen to about aviation and APG. We'll learn from what that student had to go through. And I think there was a great example. So great job there by everybody. North controller is also a great controller. I've talked to him many, many a time, just like I've talked to AG and RH when I was still police back in Durham and I used to fly used to fly through their airspace somewhere and in the middle of North Carolina. And he was going to say where. But on my way to Concord, where Steph.

"Segment. And of course, that means that it's our time to get all caught up with one another and what we've been doing. Between shows and Nicholas. What have you been up to since when did we record last week? It was earlier in the week, wasn't it? Saturday. That was. Okay, so it's just over a week. Yeah. A week and a day. Okay. And the answer to your question is I've been having COVID tests and then a quick visit to a hospital to have a host pipe stuck down my throat, which I didn't want to have jilly is going to need a new alleged operation. So I've been trying to take up or not give her lots of things to do like drive me to hospital, et cetera. So I did this endoscopy without any form of sedation. So I said I could drive home again and it's no drama. If you can stay relaxed, but it was damn uncomfortable. You've all seen the movie alien. I felt sure at one point he was going to stick this out through my chest. And excuse me. I'm quite enjoyed watching the pictures. But when we got to the bit that I started leaning as the moved in front of the TV screen so I could see round him, but he obviously didn't want me there, so he just took right in front of me. He didn't want me to look at it. I thought I spent me. But what did it look like? It was a little like pink. Yeah, it was pink and slimy. Just like you'd expect it to be. And having fasted and things so that you don't get anything in the way. He was basically looking to see how my hiatus hernia was getting on. And it's in hiatus, whatever that means. I don't know. It's a good thing. No, it's having a good time. Yes, it's fine. It's low grade and he wasn't worried about it. So that's great. So that's out of the way. And you know, I'm still got various follow-ups after my little heart problem that I'm still trying to knock on the head. But more importantly, the lovely wife is heading off to have our leg chopped off, not really. Although I was wondering if you could have their leg at the old leg. Yeah, sure, no probes. Yeah, just part of her leg, the need to be excess fair enough. Okay. Anyway, yeah. So I'm going to be a busy boy. Doing everything around the house that I am actually nobody do separately. I'll be doing it all for a few weeks. So there may be a slight hiccup in the production of plaintiffs because I've got to be a bit strapped to tell the truth. Yeah, we're expecting, we'll do a rerun. So we've got a couple. We'll just take the week off, whatever. We do have a small library. Maybe even an easy example. We'll see how it goes. And apart from that, you know, I'm feeling pretty good now. I've really cut down on my alcohol for some reason. I just don't feel like I want so much, so that's kind of got to be a good thing, isn't it? Yeah. Give your liver a chance to reach out. I'm currently drinking milk. How worrisome is that? Barry. Well, I'm drinking tonic water without any without any gin. Well, I've been cutting it all the acid out of my diet. Yeah, I would imagine that. That's probably helping the reflux, right? Not having exactly. Exactly. I mean, they take you off your preventative drugs beforehand. And of course, that makes you worse much worse. And at least I'm back on those now so that's good. The world of shrunken shirts of both yes. And yeah, the dogs aren't going to be very impressed either. Well, we do know somebody on the crew, Nick, that we can send on over there if you need some help with the ironing. Oh yes, of course. Do we have any updates from Rick? Okay. Hang on a second. We're trying to come in now. Here it comes. Here it is. Oh, there he is. Awesome. We see nice job. Rick showing us how to iron a white uniform shirt. Oh, he's trying to say something, hey, Rick, again, you need to do something with the microphone. We can't hear you. No. It doesn't work. And comb your hair. You look like a complete mess. Okay, that's enough. And that's why Rick isn't with us today. He's busy irony. That's right. Absolutely. Iron in here. But I did manage to get a plane turn up for this week, and you know, I quite enjoyed doing this one. So this works this was good. And quite apt to considering what's going on over in Ukraine today. Okay, very good. All right. Is that it? That's a lot. Actually. Okay. Let me see here. I think we do a show on Friday. Why did not, oh, we didn't do a show on Friday, Liz, because that was the last day, and basically the last leg of my three day trip. And all I had to do was just fly the airplane back from Lexington, Kentucky, to Atlanta. And I was. I think I can do that. I think I had something to do with Greg Peterson. I'm not sure how, because I didn't see him, but I am thinking he must have done something to my airplane to cause it to be on the ground for a little bit longer than we had anticipated. And just basically had an issue with kind of a fume event, basically from the air conditioning packs and we kind of finally narrowed the problem down to a leaking leaking oil from the APU that somehow got the oil got sucked into the filter bags on the air conditioning packs, which I don't understand how that happened because the air conditioning packs are like above them. Quite a ways above them. So I don't know. By that point, I had already been extracted from the situation because our crew tracking folks were looking at so basically when I smelled the smell going on with the packs and then I thought, well, maybe just a little bit warm or something. But then when Kurt, my first officer came back up, he says, and he closes the cockpit door and says, Jeff, I need to show you something I want uh oh. Kurt's very,.

"Because their identity politics not look identity. Politics affects people on the left. And the right of course but their identity. Politics is such that they have to identify. They have to go with whatever. The narrative is that they're being fed. And i think it's happ- it's so rapidly changing like and of course. They don't acknowledge that they were lying before. They just changed to the new mess right but it's clear that they were lying before Like you can't go. You can't not notice that like they were lying before I think it's i think it's genuinely breaking these people to realize to know that they can see reality right and they have to believe something that flies directly in the face of what they're saying do you think they're starting to see the scope of allies. Because like i acknowledging it. Because i hadn't very interesting. I found it interesting. Thought after down in arizona there was the recount county and like they'd brought in like this outside republican group paid for by republicans in order to find the had told them was the truth was there was there aaron teed and then they go and my thought was these fuckers. They're just gonna lie about it. Well that's what we all assumed. And then they come out and they actually found votes for biden and they found fewer votes for trump and they actually admit it. Yeah and they put it out there. And i'm like wait a second. That just doesn't work with my view of them. And then i go wait a second. There really are just a few liars. Who know they're lying. Yeah and the rest of everybody is just following it right and this group they they. They went in with like high principles and like we. We're going to report the truth. And they did. Yeah the like. And i was like and they assumed that they were gonna find those finds something our votes for trump that were somehow unhidden under a stone blew their minds that they didn't and they probably had to go through it again and again and finally were like well. This is just what it is. Yeah and they were honest about it. Yeah right and it's like wait a second. How many honest actors do we have out there who were just repeating the lie. Yeah right and then kind of started to change my perspective or my perception of the whole thing interest and i was like holy. Fuck this is a win. Does it break. You have lie because it doesn't have to break at some point. I don't know love. The problem is that they're so adept at just shifting the goalposts. Just move away from it. Distract shake your hands and say no. Here's the real problem and scream about something new and never ever go back and revisit that old. Should we be not arguing with them. Because we know that that's not super productive. But how do we point out to them. The thing that they just stopped believing i would. We should someone right right into us and compile a list of things that have the used to be the narrative that have turned out not to be true. Yeah because i mean for the longest time. Now they're still touting this whole idea you know. I still keep seeing it all the time. Why are why are people dying of the vaccine. And we know that they're not there have been i think four deaths Connected with just the johnson and johnson vaccine no other deaths associated with any of the vaccines And they know why. The johnson and johnson thing they have they actually have mitigated. Mitigation now So that's not gonna ever happening Or it's unlikely to But then they so. Those four deaths are then added to the eight thousand self reported deaths in the in the bears thing that that are like just they got the vaccine dot dot dot intermittent whatever Death not vaccine equals death but vaccine time death so like you know all those time trip death or or you know the cancer finally got them right away but it got them after the vaccine so that counts too and this is on none of it's reported by medical professionals or anything like that. It's just haven't heard that one. This is really. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Yeah so that'll turn out to be true to america's vaccine finally at a at a you know the vaccine vaccination rate is going steadily up will and a lot of the. The puppet masters are trying to figure out a way. They're pivoting to let their people out of the lab. They set forth. Yeah exactly of not being. What was the quote we read it earlier. Where and i was just looking for on my phone. And i couldn't find where i had it. There was one guy who was it. I don't remember who it was. But if somebody at breitbart yet who spin spin you know. Guys been masters or whatever and he's literally blaming the democrats. He's accusing the democrat. You're of masterminding The the rights mass not taking of the vaccine and saying that it's reverse psychology so the way that the democrats did this was by cleverly saying get the vaccine diabolical plan and but i mean honestly what does that saying about your own community that whatever the democrats say of course we have to just forearms saying no. That's what you're admitting to what you're admitting to is that. Your side is so single-mindedly focused on hating the other side.

"Did so i realized that will not move. People emotionally give omaha have people move. According to the word of god. What is god saying to you. And i really believe this. If people would call this number and put this victory all over the world every vailima voice every available outlet. The father he would say jesus go get. Yeah because you see. He wants to see us as much as we want to see him. You see what i'm saying. So what is hindred. All these things is a is because people are not doing in the financial room because we live in an economic world. What god's called them to do you know he's called us to do that so i don't have a problem with giving i don't have a problem with receiving it make any difference. I just made up my mind. I won't jesus calm the only jet. Yes you can have it the day after. Israel's jesse adjusted heaven. 'cause jessica jess is gone heaven. It's yeah so yeah. You can have my jet. I've made jesus much money. It is if you would ask me ten years ago before i really died. Don't moved divan before. I even into dived before i had and into the as deeply as we have into the world of christianity and especially this prosperity gospel. Bullshit yeah if you had told me that a prosperity gospel televangelist would say out. Loud would basically brag about having multimillion dollars Jets private jets. I know i would say well. This guy is going to lose all of his money right because no one would give to that asshole. But i've learned a lot about human psychology since then and it turns out that is will guarantee him to get a whole fucked on more money. It's insanity isn't it. it's it's it's just kenneth copeland like you said jets. Yeah and kenneth copeland nothing could be further from the truth. I don't know this guy's number of jets. But didn't kenneth goat like he just keeps asking next big but he doesn't even get rid of the smaller one four of them he's got. I think it's more than that like it's it's it's it's obscene. And then the fact that he could be so like like be bragging about i i. I'm not a millionaire a multimillionaire. Yeah i'll i'll buy the station. Fire year yeah. Right like folic. If when i hear that kind of talk i immediately. I don't know about you frank. I hate that person. Absolutely audience is loving it. They are lapping it. Up with a spoon these guys because the whole point is the way that they have structured. This which i'm not going to say is not genius is the more money i have the more it shows how much god loves me right so if which is why trump won you know what i mean like the more money you have the more. You are obviously favored by god and therefore if you tell me i should give you my money me being someone who works hard for a pittance. Who of course i'm going to do it. Well so god must really like bill gates and george sarah hubs and that's that's and that's a different god and he's a dick. Oh my god. I love how the logic like it only goes so far. That's really other trick of christianity is don't take the logic any further they say it out like don't think about it just feel about it. Yeah and and if you're thinking too much and it hurts your brain stop thinking. There's nothing about this. You know the the says do think differently. Just just stopped thinking. That's their that's your problem right there. thinking all right. Well we have some thinking people who have written into us about various things. Adam wrote into us last week. Your recall frank. We talked about christianity being under review. Not under attack. It's under review. Sure adam said. I liked your comments about on christianity being under review freelance video camera work for local town meetings. Which is just as exciting as it sounds sounds like torture Even as much as a zoning ordinance as proposed it's debated what problem is this type trying to solve. what is the cost. Two dollars and or freedom What will the proposed solution. Actually solve the problem. If christians or any religion tried to make religious laws there should be a discussion and debate christian sometimes confused this for persecution. But it's it's just reasonable discussion and scrutiny. But they could get out of the business of religious law and just practice their religion anytime they want it. I agree Josh road into us. hey bring a dan. As a former born again evangelical. I grew up believing the red letters. We talked about the red letter parts of the bible. Yeah being jesus's words jesus's words I grew believing this josh again. I grew up believing the red letters were in fact jesus actual words and yes we were told we should live by them. Despite the fact that few of my fellow prisoners did as id converted. I went through a phase where i tried to strip out all the peripheral crap out of the bible and only focus on what jesus said. It's a fine goal until someone pointed out that exactly none of the quotes attributed to jesus were actually said by him we're talking hearsay upon hearsay upon hearsay coupled with translations and political manipulations of the content of the book. The only thing we can say for sure is that the words in red are attributed to jesus so if the words of the quote son of god can be falsely attributed and manipulated to fit a narrative Then it stands to reason that the red letters are as unreliable as the all. The black ladders not a criticism of the show. But i found it really interesting. The both of you used language. That accepted the premise that the bible contains actual quotes from jesus. I don't think that that's what we were. It may have sounded like we were saying that we may have set it in a way that makes it sound like that. I kind of this. I always there's sort of a a pretense in my head right that like. I am willing to to sort of meet the christians at their little line. Right which is they say. It's real and so i'm like okay. Fine still sucks. Yeah when we talk about the bible we may be talking about it from their perspective. But no look do. I even believe that there was a historical jesus about that. I don't. I don't believe strongly one way or the other but i definitely don't believe that there was necessarily a historical jesus so right no i fully understand these were not the words of our lord and savior right. They were but there are just the ones attributed. Yes so so very well put and thanks for and thanks for giving us a little more clear about our. Yeah we we you. Listeners may be surprised to learn. we don't believe in jesus but even if there was a guy we don't believe in him right we're not followers not a fan anyway..

Was you know we would decide which audio to play between. Uh some whatever. But you don't need that you don't need that extra work. Why should we be involved. I'll just do it. I'll just put in the effort of myself. Yeah so we're just surprise me we're gonna hear from. I don't know if you know the name jesse duplantis you remember that name. No he's an old guy pastor. He's he's a big he's big in the televangelist world. He's pretty alley. Yeah okay he hangs out with copeland masimba. As a matter of fact the idea that we're going to play his him on victory thown so it's like it's like telephone it's like you know it's it's it's the jerry's kids only it's for making these guys rich and if you think that i am being unkind by saying it's about making these guys rich i'll just let jesse duplantis set you straight. I honestly believe this. That the reason why jesus had been come because people are not giving the way god told him to give you see what i'm saying i mean when you understand it you can speed up the time i was on television. He said i heard you as a millionaire. That's not right that's not true. He said yes. I said no. It's not multi. Now add that good. You'll be all. He let he liked to have had a fit. "Our country is screwed. You know we shouldn't have finality here which there should be. Just pick why. Why wasn't jesus enough for you. Why was it that a good enough find. That is a great final profit. You don't need any more prophets after. Jesus oh well. At least they're more exciting than like the dumb mormon kind. Oh god good god. When was the last good. Mormon prophet actually said anything interesting lord. But i'm going to take so. I don't know where this where i don't wear. This guy is based oh orange county This is a guy who had a. Here's this is a cautionary tale. I chose this. Because i want everyone to learn a lesson here There is good money to be made out there as a pastor If you're clever and wicked there's good money to be made this guy did it. The wrong way He was already a convict of some sort. He had already already committed. He had a record. Okay i got a rap. She all right. He's starts the church for the healthy self since nine doesn't adjust that's important Help which which. He made an entirely online venture. But had little was headquartered in some strip mall somewhere in california okay but then because he had a background in finance He decided to jail for. Yeah yeah some white-collar thing commodities fraud. Yeah okay so then. He just starts promising investment help so he he apparently targeted. I don't know why he is. He is From what i can tell a white dude But apparently targeted the vietnamese community and basically what he promised was no risk investment plans with a promised twelve percents rate of return. Now that's not a thing. Yeah that doesn't exist. Yeah there's no such thing as a no risk. Investment and twelve percent is high. Yeah very high but you can make twelve percent but you gotta be real good but that gets your attention. Yes if you haven't been making twelve percent you want percents. yeah now. I want to contrast this with all these other fucking scam vangelis out there who make a fucking fortune just hollering about how jesus. But but what you don't do is say invest with me you say give to me And then you're fucking clear can't touch you. It's a little bit harder. Sell you got to engage people a little bit more but they basically do the same thing. They promised parity gospel heads. Promise a rate of return from jesus but they never. They didn't never promised to sign that. Check yeah give god ten. He'll give you twelve. Yeah and by the way by the way. God's me like give me that see that's always has to go through sort of give god ten middleman give god ten percent of your income but make the checkout to me right. I'm gonna. I'm gonna watch god's money that's the scam works and it works great. This should just be fucking illegal. It should probably be but it isn't and you don't even have to tell you don't pay taxes on it. You don't have to tell the government what you're doing with it you're free and clear. It's a great scam. It's a gorgeous scam but this ding dong does the fucking investment thing. He he ripped people off to the tune of about thirty three million dollars. Wow all and now is going to jail sentenced to know if he were a black dude who was caught with some amount of controlled substance. He'd be going to jail for thirty years to life but he's a white dude. Who did a thirty three million dollars of scamming so he only gets fourteen years. Wow so anyway there you go. That's like i said it's a cautionary tale. If you're going to do the scam you've got no food. Look look to others for some inspiration. What works doesn't work garage. Best practices here. Get a mentor. Yeah you know somebody who kind of show you the ropes. Don't just make it up. Yeah oh man. Yeah there you go dan. Yeah oh golly. This whole taliban thing with them back in charge and in afghanistan It just keeps getting better day by day. You know so much. Good fast ghanistan. Yup bad happening. There makes me feel proud to be an american will now. There are no longer under our occupation. Oh there they can. They can flourish dignity just an open their wings and fly and that is not what's happening sadly the situation specifically for women is just getting worse and worse as the transitional government. Was i sort of taking the reins Those first few days crazy couple first weeks. They were guaranteeing that women would still have a place in the public sphere. Right right and then Well we need to you. Know back in the burqas please. Oh no. we don't like the taliban was doing much please. i don't think it was. I don't think there were many pleasantries. Have you ever listen. These guys talk the. They sound like they're doing everybody a favor. Yeah right and anyway. The the taliban has appointed a new chancellor of kabul university. Oh of course which means that. I'm guessing also yesterday. It's an academic. It's a stunning academic. The put call it. It's it was such a great choice. Right he's really going to do a lot for the university. The first thing that he's done for the university is that he has banned women raw. That's that's the first thing they all do which they had been guaranteed and like just a couple of weeks ago. If i remember correctly they were told that they could still study. But they would need to be in rooms with like a like a wall between the men and women and the professor could be at the front or some sort of thing like that right there and the women of course still had to be in their burqas. And if you're not familiar with the burqa oh it's a nice garment. It's not just that we're not just talking about it he job. It's you're not just in a headscarf. Yeah you're not even just a simple little vail. It's a ghost costume. You're dressed as a as a black ghost. Yep people can see your eyes. That's what they're allowed to see anyway in. That feels a little racy if you asked me. We'll sexy is what if what if she looks at me. God don't..

"Not by liberals but by another sort of quasi church group michigan-based st michael's media which you've probably never heard of You've probably also never also never heard of the the other name that saint michael's media goes by which is church militant now church militant had applied to To have a big a big do a big protest in baltimore and everything was going fine and then the city said no. We're canceling that. Oh and now they're suing. Here's the thing the city of baltimore is there. Police is wildly understaffed. Currently this is a known problem and they are very concerned because two of the because this event was touting speeches by one steve. Bannon and milo yiannopoulos. Oh god i know if y'all know who these guys are steve bannon was former donald trump. Chief strategist and robart guy. Walking advertisement for for why. you shouldn't get smallpox. just looks like he's diseased. Have you ever noticed that. He just looks ill. He looks like he has some horrible dread disease. Whenever those two guys speak at anything it turns out. There's fucking violence. Have these guys drag violence wherever they go and it you know. It's not a leap to say that if you're if the organization is called church militant and they're there to counter protests something you know these are the same guy the these same guys that attract the one percenters in the three percenters and the proud boys and all of these soft. Yeah it's violence. That's what they like to talk about. That's what they you know. Bannon regularly calls for violence against government officials. He talks about beheading ouchi. And you know. Fbi director christopher wray and all this stuff so it is not a leap but now they're suing because they didn't want they don't want to not have their rally. They want to have their rally. Yeah so well they've planned. They've rented ballrooms. Yeah they. I think it's out in out in the square or whatever but yeah. According to your novelist who works for saint michael's. He says you know he's turned over a new leaf. He's he doesn't attract the same violence he used to. He's he's a. He's a kinder gentler milo now that he's ex gay right now that he's turned straight. Everything's find you guys. So he was one of those militant gays. Oh they're the worst. I know i like a good militant gay. Let me tell you something. Those are the good ones. It's just when they're on the wrong side of every issue that they become a problem. He was fighting for the wrong side of every in case. Yes yeah of course. All right dan. i going to head on over to pakistan. Ooh where a former school principal by the name of salma tanveer k is facing the death penalty. actually she's been sentenced to death for blasphemy. Yeah because she has claimed that she's a prophet. Oh she's distributed tracts all her writings oh and she denies the finality of prophet hood. Which in a muslim country means muhammad is the last. Yeah there were other prophet after muhammad pretty adamant about that. I mean it says it right in there bik deal. He was very clear. I'm the last one. Don't believe anybody after me well. Isn't that nice calm right okay. That's cool way to hold the ladder up behind you dickhead. no kidding. It's really a a bad move. Yeah it's bad. Look it is it is honestly the objects on that mohammed are really bad. But you know you don't want other people coming along and messing up your work. Yeah it's like you you you laid it all out. It's basically perfect. I mean he did a really bang-up job islam. If anybody's ever read the koran they know it's it's just it you can't it's unassailable. Yeah i say this your story. It sounds to me like probably more than the prophet thing is the woman thinking. She knows something thing that oh sure. No parent guessing. That's what gets you the death. Penalty vera male distributing tracts of prophecy blasphemy will get you the death penalty. Yeah but like and you have to say. The finality of the prophet is enough for blasphemy. Yeah but i hear your point. What caught everybody's attention. Was this uppity school principal. Who had some things with the wrong pronouns. Yeah anyway. I guess the whole there was a complaint in two thousand thirteen. They're just getting around to it. They have a backlog in their judicial system. She hasn't that long to get out of there. Who knows she's pregnant in jail time. But according to a twenty two page long verdict issued by the judge says. i'm assuming he obviously. It is proved beyond reasonable doubt that accused salad ten wrote and distributed the writings which were derogatory in respect of holy prophet mohammed and. She failed to prove that her case falls exception. And it gets legalese citing stuff. Apparently if you can just prove you're crazy yet they won't kill you right. Yeah and so. She didn't prove she was crazy. Boy apparently her lawyer tried. But i was like a court ordered. Analyst said that she was fit to stand trial. Can you just screen our or like google or something. I just need you to out loud. Just claiming that you're a profit should be enough right but therein lies a problem. Yeah yeah so. I mean in this country anytime dicker harry. Any any firemen or football coach can just jump in and claim that they're a prophet and and we all have to go along with it. Apparently yeah no it's true you have to start a new. Yeah this specific honorifics yeah coach coach or just be a pink haired old lady and just say the craziest shit in the world and someone will give you a platform was that oh no. That's not saudi. Her ko k- cindy jacobs is another one. Yeah who kills me. They could just ladies nuts. They could just say anything. Someone will believe them here..

"All right. rob sh chris throughout the ultimate qualifier for this as long as optional. If i'm a parent. I'm not a parent that wants to opt out of this. But if i am a parent that wants to apple. Opt out. As long as i have that choice. I'm not terribly concerned about this. Particular teacher is the next thing you about. The where i think i have more concerned all right so the next one and i'm going to try to to state this the way i thought i heard him explain it. This is more about child pornography so and it has to do with cloud and i think this is where the controversy happens. Every image on your iphone will essentially get like a a hash signature tied to the mitch. The image and that envelope with the has signature are uploaded to ike cloud. Which you've you've made the election that i want to back up my photos side cloud if that image that your state you've uploaded to. I cloud matches a hash of images from like but child pornography databases. So you get. They're not analyzing your image on device. Your device creates a hash of that image or signature for that image on all they're doing is saying. Does this signature matt signature. Matt's is a significant match and if you get signature matches for images that are uploaded. I cloud than than apple can apple has now a means to i. It's mainly given them a means to identify illegal images without looking at your stuff and then they can notify the proper authorities within. I think let me read this. It says if a person if a person never uploads images to cloud than apple is it alerted if enough of the offending images uploaded to. I cloud the system alerts apple and the company then checks those specific images only to confirm that they're in violation. The four reporting them to the national center for missing his shield so again imagined that the national center for missing children have dated a database of four hundred million images the and apple crates signatures for all these images and just saying look if one of your images match signature and and you over go over a threshold. We then can look at them and say oh my gosh yes you do. Have this this content. We can report it to the authorities and it's not there never. There's no one really looking at your images until you cross the threshold and that the signature is created on your device. Oh it's just doing that. Signature envelope matching. And the way you could bypass all if you really cared is turn off not uploading and i think what apple was trying with. They try to do with the best intentions. I do think they accomplish it was we didn't want to upload it and then do the analytics innovation of the image. We wanted to have that happened on device so that you can't look and say apple was analyzing my images. Apple is only comparing a signature image to signature of known a legal content material images. And if i tripped than it would notify so this one again is a lot more controversy for many people for me. I personally look at it. I say i don't have any issue with this. And if you do. Just don't upload. I cloud librarian problem. Goes away for you because you wanna store there's images but how do you guys feel in this one so for me. This is all that. I would want to understand What does the false positive data at look like in. How did you scrub it for vice because my mind is automatically thinking that you could You know a certain group of people be flag significantly more outside of a you know i wanna make sure that the system isn't biased Before i would trust something like this when you're talking about turning over information to the authorities but okay wait a second step back for second so let me let me re make sure you heard the so there's a threshold and and they actually do give an example so look if images uploaded to cloud to apple is if they're alerted which we and the thresholds about thirty images apple will look at the images i to verify they are actually the offended images so may even say that's right so and then so if there's a false positive someone is gonna analyze before they notify thirty said if only if you meet the threshold of something on the order of thirty or more known child pornographic images then you look at it. It is with human alerts. Okay i think the process is there. Mike is rock solid ban. But the problem is the one side of it and on its face. i don't have an issue with it as well but You know i was telling you today or not today. A couple of days ago listening to wrongful convictions and this lady to save her but From from stealing a motorcycle and trying to sell it was a junkie accused dude of raping her thirteen thirteen year. Old daughter right completely false and so and they just do that sir. John awful twenty. He's been jailed for twenty four years. He's pretty much exhausted. All his appeals and Yeah they send them for thirty five years for something he didn't and it's so clear that he didn't do it. So once you analysis on the we're not you have this on his vice will blurred or whatever. I'm cool with that. I i have issue with the law enforcement side of it. I would rather scrub the image or marked image or something like that. I just don't know from one hundred percent on because is not one hundred percent. Let me finish thought. I'm not one hundred percent on the.

"But you know as well as i as i can change literally tonight and she can be a lunatic in a monster but again without the house we could. We literally could not do this. Yeah it's great to have that support system. I'm sure they seek considerate. Shouldering a blessing. You know so. It really works out now. What would you consider todd here to be the top values that you hope to instill in your daughter growing up I i want her to be mentally. Tough 'cause i feel like in this day and age. Your mental toughness is is at a premium in a way. That when you and i were growing up i never felt. I had to be mentally tough. I developed a certain level of mental toughness through sports at the silly level that i played. I mean i wasn't playing in college And through academics and just through life. But i feel that the the pressures that are on these kids from every different angle and in last year that the covert pressures really forces you to have a level of mental toughness that If you want to succeed in this world and it's sad that we've gotten there but as a dad it's my obligation to prepare for the real world and so that's my number one goal. My number two goal is to really make sure that she grows up as much like her mother as possible because I i was out with a buddy of mine. Who knows both my wife and i yesterday. And he has some really. He described my wife in a way that that really jumped out at me and he says you know your wife is one of those people that You know she can hang with the guys but no nobody's going to take advantage of her and i thought about that and like my wife. I think my wife is gorgeous. Obviously the most gorgeous woman. I've ever met you know. And i like all the feminine attributes of her but in a come to think of it even when i was in the dating mode and you know how guys can be i. I never heard guys talking about her. In a crass way and i feel is that's because she exuded a certain level of self respect. And i want i want to somehow make sure that that. That's that the little baby. When she grows up to be a woman. Has that and i feel confident that my wife sort of charter the path for that. Because you know if you're strong woman in today's society it really does help you and My wife's a strong woman. And i'm looking forward to that That might be just an observation on my part. I don't know if i'm going to be able to be the coach on that. My wife might need to take the lead on that. But i'll certainly be encouraging along the way and if there was a third i think we all wanna have our kids not make the mistakes that we made I don't want her. My parents didn't put pressure on the. I put a lot of pressure on myself to to. I don't wanna say impress my parents but to be a good doobie and they tried to sort of say you know. Just be happy. Just live your life. And i didn't listen so i'm gonna try my best to convince them that kicked him in the little one to really focus on being happy You know if she's anything like her father she'll try to impress us anyway and i certainly hope that that doesn't come at the expense of her own happiness because i felt like subjugated a lot of my own happiness along the way Just to sort of please others even though they were not asking to be please So those are my three. Yeah very well said todd and then what about now. I know your daughter is only eight months now. So it's really for this but What was the what was your relationship like with your parents growing up. What was the discipline style. Like with your parents and is that kind of discipline style. You plan on implementing a timeout guy. Spanker what was the discipline style like when you grew up. I'm forty three years old so You know the whole time now thing was was was not happening back. Then i'm from jersey You know there's a lot of hitting jersey but you know my dad didn't like to hitting I think my dad used to cry. Then he used to have to hit us like tone sex. Ain't my dad's a worst but You know my my dad can can lose his temper just like any any good italian male but my dad did not like it in the belt. My mom was a wooden spoon person because her mom before it was a wooden spoon. And i feel like the wooden spoon is a important part of italian culture but i was pretty good k. My brother's a pretty good kid. The only time that we get in trouble because when we were like bothering each other Really that's the only time. The wooden spoon came out of the threats of of spanking came out. We're pretty good kids the one other time. I did a girl when i was three. And so my mom bitney back. You know that was a physical nece here. You know so what we're gonna do. I'd like to say we had this huge discussion about this So far so good. You know the kids not kids. Not needing reprimanding I think we're gonna you know we need to talk about that. Flush that a little bit more. i just i. if there's any hitting involved. I think it's going to have to be the wise i i i can't. I can't look at the little one that i'm going to smack her on her bottom You know anytime she. She's sitting up and she likes falls over if i go into like a defcon five. Unlike so i. I don't know if i could even in reprimanding raise a hand to her but but we'll figure that out but you know i. It certainly is a question But again i. I was a pretty good kid. I didn't i didn't necessitate a lot of reprimanding and again that goes back to my earlier. Point of of trying to be a good kid trying to to to not require punishment. Always try to keep my parents happy. And i think that's a testament to my parents that You know encouraged us to be to be good and they you know they rewarded us with You know i. It wasn't like now the trophy generation. Where everybody you you smile and you get a trophy but I just think they rewarded us with with positive reinforcement and I i had a pretty darn good childhood. You know i. my parents still alive. Don't see him this weekend. We fight more now than we did. Back then because as they get older sunny and And acting goofy yourself Almost my job to like keep track of them and make sure they're on the straight narrow not doing stupid things but Yeah i i had an awesome childhood. I i was pretty lucky. You hear horror stories out there. Yeah very cool tied now. Obviously they i remember having my first and like sometimes you in the beginning. You're you're very cautious about going out places in public with the baby because it's your first time you're very new to all of it now. During a pandemic. I would imagine that's kind of like twofold or even maximize have you guys been able to Breakthrough have you been able to take. Take her out and go places with her. Enjoy some experiences. Have you guys kind of limited. Her and kinda helped your home for most of the time i wanna say it's less about her less about the pandemic and more about like we don't have time. Art day are night together. Is saturday night. When we're all under one roof. And i gotta be honest. My wife and i look at each other like you want to go out to dinner. Let's bring it in so it's not. it's not really pandemic related. It's not her related You know with the shores really are going down the shore on weekends. Which is what we tried to do in the summer of the jersey. Shore have done it so much. Because you sound like. You're a northeaster Weather here is Is been horrific for the month of july pope in august. Improves hopefully going out a few more times and they were going to expose to a little bit more that way..

"We'll come back dave. Hello hello good to be back. Happy post fourth of july. And all that good stuff we My dog survived. What once again this year despite his thinking he would not. I either now know a lot. More dog owners than i ever one stayed on social or the tide against a fireworks has changed because all i saw for the week leading up into the fourth of july was. I hate all you. People that launch fireworks. yeah posted everywhere so I for one enjoy fireworks. Lit off some with my son. It's technically going to probably be my last fourth of july in the united states so i figured go out with a bang turns go still have all my fingers all good right. That's right. yeah well. We got the dog. Hi this year so a lot. Yes exactly actually. Thc yeah him stowed just gave a happy. Sit there staring at his paw in the corner color. Little while had colors stood at the doorway to are are screened in deck and just kind of stood there and stared outside while things were. We could hear them. We couldn't see any from our house. We could hear a lot of them but he was remarkably chill and he is a very excitable dog so Seems like we we dialed in a good dose for him where he wasn't stumbling around or anything but he he was he was you know. Just kinda chilling and so nice to have nice definitely in kind of a more laid back area where it wasn't too bad. Los angeles was a war zone. I mean aerial video and it did look like a war. It's as if illegal fireworks were on sale at costco for the last two months. That's right it was fucking insane. I don't know i've personally have never bought. I can't say i've never bought when you were a kid. You know getting a hold of those Firecrackers they whatever reason to stop at getting an eighty big kid on on campus during recess. You know so. That was but as an adult. I've never bought any of these launch into fucking space. Beat jeff bezos rockets. Right right look like a wylie. Coyote device names of some of them are very much like acme. Fuck you up And it was kind of a. It was a strange thing because my son you know we kept him up. Way past bedtime just to be able to launch are safe and sane fireworks and as we drove through los angeles from my mother's house and orange county to our place in santa monica. I mean it was like. Oh am i on a road iraq somewhere. Fuck is going on non-stop. The car would shake because so many people were shooting them off near. Freeways have become less houses to burn down. So you've been audience so pretty dense. Yeah we saw some video from near us in ocean city maryland. Where evidently the truck full of fireworks for their display went off early. Yes in the trump in the morning in the truck in the morning and so no fireworks celebration for ocean city maryland that that year. No boom for you. One big boom but no little. What a nightmare. Yeah we had We had an illegal fireworks arrest early in the week that they tried to do a quote unquote scheduled demolition of that. Blew up half the name of saw that i saw them and the funny thing is the guy got arrested and he got on five hundred thousand five hundred hundred thousand dollars bond in within ten minutes. Atf came and arrested. Wow wow three pounds of fireworks in his backyard that he would he would drive to nevada and by and bring back in like moving trucks. Well i mean that's a single consumers use on on fourth of july. why not. Yeah yeah apparently stays in there. What happens in nevada does not stay in the bud. I guess so. Wow stop at the border So before we dig into stories. This week i have to share that. There is something that. I am indeed grumpy about the motivation for a new song from one of our listeners. There you go to. My name is david. I'm here to say that there's something making me very grumpy today. All right so last week I noticed that. I could no longer connect to any of my smart devices in my home through my smart app on my si- use the smart things app on my phone and as we have discussed here many times i have many things in my house that are connected to this. My smoke alarms. I have i water sensor for my hot water heater doors. I have a thing on the liquor cabinet. Although since scott moved out. That's not as really as big a deal as it used to be So all sorts of things all over the house. Lightbulbs connect me up and they all went missing. And i thought that's strange so i look and say pushed a software update great. You know a typical. So i couldn't despite trying everything. I could not get the to see anything i couldn't. I couldn't connect to the hub from the app. So i sent a message to samsung tech support and i heard back from them and they said oh as you you undoubtedly had seen in our many communications to you. We even end of life to the version of the smart things hub that you have. Yeah we recommend you purchase one of these new smart. Things hubs that expensive so i got that ahead of me. Now i've i've invested in all the infrastructure. I'm kind of a kind of trapped in here. So i think the technical term is fucked some especially with the internet of things. I do feel that we were all punished for being relatively early adopters because the sort of thing happened to be many of time. Well i do have to give amazon props for this if you use an alexa device. They do a remarkable job of connecting to just about everything in not requiring the The hubs and whatnot that you need so you could maybe make an attempt Just to buy cheap and cheerful amazon device. And see if that'll do the job. Oh really oh. That's interesting because i do. I have a I don't remember what the name of it is. But i have a spare with the one that has the video screen on it Show you're supposed to sit on your kitchen counter. I have one of those not plugged in. So you're saying that there's a possibility that that could connect to my smart things around the house. Yes yes The the app the the amazon alexa app is is horrible. It's a so i look forward to. It's a study in what not to do for user interface. But if you work your way through that to use it to kind of connect everything You can use the app to connect two things. If you're using the show you can actually even Pull up a touch screen to get all the controls for everything and obviously you can use your voice as well. So i would recommend giving that go before investing in another hub. That will be end of life shortly. So check the fat of the specs on that one I know that like the lady in the tube the tube to version took me until version. three. I think until they integrated smart home Accessibility the smart home from amazon. As part of it but if you do you should be golden way we would is so smart home could be. It may or may not be built into the individual device. You sure how your show is yet. Yeah i see right. If you've got a show seven and above. You should be fine. I think has started to really. This is scintillating podcast. I thrilled coming up next. We're going to go through my kernel panic logs and try to figure out you know one one way. We could actually try to spin. This as you've just listened to basically every conversation we have with our friends and family. Welcome to christmas appealed to christmas. Yeah how how nice to be on the other side of it for me. I'm glad i brought it up. Actually that's great information. So thank you brian. That's that that you you may have just saved me. Several hundred dollars go. We'll see oh man so turns out on the western digital thing we talked about last week with the my book live It wasn't a some kind of new. It wasn't new hack. It was an oday that nobody had found before they were there. Were security holes in it already but this was a new security hole. Town'd yeah right. Yeah and if you're a western digital owner you've got some other things to worry about. I have a hard time following up with their product names that also benign silly. My book live. And then this case. It's mike cloud over three These are nass devices and basically they've Crabs as always has published a report of another zero day vulnerability that affects those products. So basically they've been end of life as well because they're they're tech support solution from western digital as well you should just get the my cloud. Os five and forget about your threes. We patched three with five. That's a new product right. Yes so there you go fuel. The solution is buy a new car..

"The doorway to heaven is a revolving door in the mcu so but but watch it man. I'm trust me. it's funny it's short. It hits your twenty two minute mark so it's really fun even the credits at the like. I'm like why is this forty minute. Oh the credits. The end eight minutes long because what they do is they play the credited normal speed where you can actually read. Who built the show. I i love. I love that they do that anyway. What i also love is quentin tarantino has bought the la vista theater. Yes i do yeah. It's right next to the branch davidian building over there in silver lake. Because he bought the beverly glen and that's been doing well for him but now he's about the l. a. vista and. I'm very happy about this. Because it's a nice theater i remember. I've seen a movie. there have been in. I've never been in it. I've been in the branch davidian building. Because i almost rented david koresh office for my first. Isp they just couldn't get the phone lines jackson. The price was right but they couldn't get us enough Twisted pairs in there. We needed to do a t. One is so we needed like you know. A a group of twelve twisted pairs run into their and they couldn't do it. But it was like eight hundred bucks a month to get literally david rushes office in the branch. Davidian building to be our isp and we wanted it so mad. But yeah so. I get on clinton. I'm happy about that upset. I am continuing to order stuff. That i may or may not need even turn in time for the move and i realized i didn't have another. Usb of flat wall charger. So i ordered the knick mit dual port ultra thin flat. Usb wall charger was smart icy from amazon Does what it says on the tin pretty nice looking at white so it fits in with everything and you barely even see it and Until i can actually replace all my outlets with the ones that have the built in usb chargers this fantastic so does the job. I also wanted to make sure. I had enough charging cables for everything around. So i ordered a multi. Usb fast charging cable are spurred four one. Three eight charge record connector with dual phone type c micro usb universal port after compatible with cellphones tablets and more four foot to pack. So i've got a bunch of these cable sitting around. That can charge absolutely anything that i need to have charged so i feel like my charging game is now on point. Okay but why did you. Why don't you go with. What are the super fast chargers. I wanted the with all the connections. Because i have like some weird shit that uses micro usb universal like the sound machine for my kid and all this other stuff so this this is a a good middle of the road solution that charges absolutely everything so i never have to go to my bag defined a fucking charging cable for the right thing. Okay is this has smart icy so we'll see because i have the the anchor Plugs and they were. They definitely work a lot faster. But what i found is i don't need them to work that much faster because plo them in at night that just kind of the thing for me. This is more convenience over speed. I don't need the speed either. I'm sitting there going. Come on bitch charge. That things are always just sitting for a long time. So i do have to say though that i've started using Remember batas anchor G charging af the y. You one when i started the phone never worked for ship. Were great for me. I don't know what you were doing. Maybe her case was too thick. But i've got them. I just put him back around the house. They work great phone on what i'm in a room and just let it go of cooking a slap it on there and i'm always charge. That's why i don't need those superchargers anymore. Right and nick wrote in. I'm sure you'll have seen this but in case you haven't here's a story about how companies really should check out the connotations of works before they happily register their names and this is a company Of course it's a crypto term. That is also a uk term for child rapists nonce nonce. Don't don't name your finance company after a slang term for a child rapist bad idea. That's weird because nonce was also another It's a one time usage type of thing. I mean that was. That's a pro grammatical term. So i i. I never heard it used as anything on okay. Yeah okay article. Too that pop star phil collins has been fooled by producers into wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the fake anti pedophilia slogan nonsense. Actually kind of want that shirt okay. The notes where i. That's just so weird. That nonce is a child rapist term. I don't get it. I really don't I guess depends on where you live. I don't know many many things to got. What what what what elon. Musk call that guy just called him a pedo right. I think so. Yeah you know south africa. And he's not british exactly in south outer kapito. Just means weirdo. Means guy guy who wants to go to space. Yeah so that's the main reason why is because there are other things as well but this the main reason. What would some of those other things well auto things. I've called you to have been very special in terms of reviving itself as just a little neo sagged that people would put something on it. They organize it in a way. That is commercialize. -able and also barricade brought cover everything so basically you can get education materials from youtube and auto entertaining material mature from youtube. You can also get news from youtube Everything i've heard that youtube itself is the second biggest search engine. There is after google so the two together. How other had very hard time in. "It is unfortunately quite pervasive This is kind of a sister. Study to work. That happened in two thousand fourteen asking. Same question of the legal records so looking at supreme court opinions and academic journals that found that nearly fifty percent of the links that were in. Us supreme court opinions since they had been published were completely gone and thankfully it was not that bad in this situation but unfortunately we found that twenty five percent of all links that were used on the new york times where it completely inaccessible and this is again since nineteen ninety six when they first launched it gets worse over time so while six percent of links term two thousand eighteen were rotten it got worse at four three percent from two thousand eight and seventy two percent from nineteen ninety eight while and the kind of the bigger banner Finding was that of all the articles that contained one link fifty three percent of them had at least one. Rotten lincoln it. Wow so this is pretty pervasive. How about the types of links are say government links more reliable than than commercial links so we did find some really interesting kind of differences in the top level domains across these links so that's the dot com or dot gov dot net One of the most volatile ones was dot. Edu and dot gov which we found to be kind of counterintuitive Yeah right because you think these long standing institutions that have a really strong web presence would be really reliable. But ironically. I think what happens. Is that those. Landing pages are consistent. Whitehouse dot gov is always going to be whitehouse dot gov but there is this a built in cyclical nature of administrations of just different people coming into the white house managing that web content and with each new president. There is a complete restructuring of whitehouse dot. Gov so if you wanna if you're writing article in two thousand eight about what white house house dot gov looks like you're going to link to that and then inevitably in four eight years there's going to be a completely different piece of information at whitehouse daca than when were originally writing your article. Right or i guess. Even about the people that you'd be linking to write like a person who has a certain post in one administration is not going to be the same person in the next administration so at the age of the article. You could be getting a completely different person than you are expecting to count. Yeah of course and then even getting into the deep links. We were talking about often times. The entire website structure will be redone. You know there are different. Sections of joe biden's white house website than there were for donald trump's white house website so there.

"We got in touch a long time ago because you heard the seventh anniversary special with robert. Greene robert greene. Yep and your book. Black privilege was great. There's a lotta real advice in there. Which i like us the advice that you give you. Don't find that in books by celebrities ever usually the bios like i knew that by working hard and keeping my head down i would eventually win. It's never really accurate so props to you for writing. Something people can actually use. I never considered myself celebrity. That's number one and number two. I think when you come from a area. Like i come from monks corner. South carolina rural area on a dirt road like a small town. When the beginnings are that humble. It's kind of hard to look at yourself as anything other than a kid. Who's making a living. That's what my mom always. Tell me my mom that me right. Now she goes just be happy to be making a living and that was just kind of like my mindset so i guess the advice i give is just practical advice because i'm just a kid who came from a dorota muslim cycle and who's out here making a live. What was it like growing up. In the place you're describing. Sounds like a really small town it is. I mean the funny thing is most corner was a small town that seemed like the biggest town in the world to me at the time. it just seemed like a place. I didn't think i was going to be all my life would seem like the big city like i know it may sound crazy like if i go to manhattan are in la hostile. Feel like i'm that kid on the dirt road in small town. Because i became a man in new york to two thousand and six before that i lived in columbia south carolina and i moved there in like two thousand and four like my whole life in my twenties. I was living in this town. Monks corner south carolina. So it's just a country place dirt road dear. It's you know. Raccoons it's a place. Where if you work at the factory you got a job. Once the factory close you've got to go find work is country. Al no other way to describe it.

Republican Congressman vs. David C. Smalley

"Let's jump straight in. Because i want to bring our guest in on the conversation immediately. He's a former congressman from virginia's fifth district he's now nc are is chief strategist and author of bigfoot. It's complicated which. I really hope we have time to get into and i really hope. He's still a republican. Let's find out join me in welcoming denver riggleman to the show. Thanks for joining me today. Sir thanks for having me sir. Oh well you heard that with us for the first time it just came out moments ago. What are your thoughts. So i'd like to state as we start here. The president trump reid tweeted a few months ago that the joe biden. Kill seal team six. I think god you're right. No you know. That's and that's what i was when i was listening to that speech after what i heard Down near the white house right before the siege on the capital. In fact that i've been in. Congress have been in the house. And i knew some of those people that spoke like madison call or mo brooks of talked to many times Don jr. meant obviously rudy giuliani I've met obviously and and what i really saw. Their david was absolute Language to incite really. It happened over the months and months and to hear that right now. My my first reaction is not really a politician but as an intelligence officer and something counter-terrorism like somebody's very afraid of the senate trial for impeachment. I thought the same thing Michael came in a few seconds in michael goes. Looks like a hostage video like he looks like he like. It's not really his words. He just feels the need to say these things he had to. I mean you know. The thing is is that his his term does end. I know that there are some people that are still listening to pastures and trucks talking about biblical prophecy that president trump is right now hidden a bunker and mike. Flynn is going to be the next vice president but by the way that's true. I just saw this video two days ago. One hundred eighty five thousand likes david on a facebook video from some dude in a truck saying that you know he's a pastor and had biblical prophecy and he just went through the whole cunanan thing and i just shaking my head about the ridiculousness out there. But he still wants to keep his brand to. He's got to make money. And how's he going to do that. And i think there's a lot of things you need to worry about. And that speech was the copa. That was so too late and show not anything that he said before that very hard to believe men. You're spot on. I mean. I i you know about damn time is the first reaction and then does he even believe the stuff he's saying is the second reaction So late you know so late to the party So that so that my listeners have a little bit background as to why this conversation between the two of us is so important You know you're you're only a former congressman because apparently you weren't conservative enough for your district right you. You lost to someone who was far more conservative and on top of that. I've seen you. I've seen pictures. Anyway of you officiating. Same sex wedding so you don't sound very republican the to us sir. What's going what's going on over there. Why are you so open minded and logical. You know when iran. You know. i've only been. I don't know people know this about me. I was i was a ceo. sell my company in two thousand twelve doing counterterrorism and counterintelligence work. Could you know not. Only that i can. I can go back in time. If i told you the crazy stuff. I've done like we mission plan. The first bombing runs death in afghanistan for nine eleven. that was our squadron. It was me Oman training omanis on. F16 sixteen operations in two thousand and ninety nine. I was on. The romanian serbian border for operation. Allied for trying to stop ethnic cleansing. I've had a hell of a life and that's just the beginning counter idea. Actually our team that was tracking sulejmani and two thousand six two thousand seven so when people saw my resume like this son of a gun never been in politics before when i ran as a republican i was asked to because the my predecessor had to resign because of alcoholism. Which is a little ironic. Since i'm going to stiller. I one on accident one by one. Vote against a christian. Dominion est They called me a baby killing sodomite But i thought if if practicality and i was a good guy team player like in my military days voted independently when i had to I thought i would see that. I care about people more than the career. Because i didn't need the paycheck and sadly after the same sex wedding david conspiracy theory started about me that i was working for soros to turn children into alternative lifestyles by funding schools. To teach that doug gay sex was okay. And that i really started saying cunanan was turning and blossom and this was back in twenty nineteen and since my background is in you tracking isis and al qaeda and disinformation and radicals. I said this also looks like that. We have almost the same type of thing here. We have people that are using language of dehumanisation and antisemitic. Tropes to go after people. And you know it's like a lot my book right. It's about bigfoot belief systems and take over people's lives so really been a hell of a time for me. I never thought that My family we get death threats You know i never you know. I never thought that. I can tell you this. Now that somebody would remove the lug nuts are in them all up on my right front tire at a rally where i came out and felt funny and took it to a shop and look like they tried to hurt me pretty bad so this has been one of my life has been like for the past two years david. And guess what athem you know. This is what they want to bring it. Bring it because i got fifty acres of distillery and i'm a second amendment guy and but i'm also a free thinker and pretty socially libertarian. So i don't know where. I fit bud

Catalyst Apps on the Mac, with John Voorhees

"Welcome to another episode of the Mac power users. I'm David sparks joined by my fellow Co host. Mr Stephen Hackett. How're you doing today's Stephen? I'm David how are you good. I'm doing great We're talking today about Catalina. And specifically capitalist APPs so we thought we'd have the Internet's favorite catalyst expert on the show John for he's welcome to the show. Thank you very much for having me guys. I guess I'm the favourite and maybe the the only I don't know I appreciate introduction. It's great to be here while you really took the beloit horns Mac stories when apple released east this this concept of Hey. Let's get IPAD APPS over on the MAC and and honestly. I was more optimistic about it when it started than we've had up until now we're GonNa talk about that during the show but there has been a steady diet of new APPs coming out that are built around catalyst since you've spent so much time covering it. I really appreciate you come on the show and sharing some of your wisdom assure thing before we get started go ahead and sign up for that. NPR newsletter. If you haven't already will put a Lincoln this show nuts. Lots of people are liking that. Get all the links from the episode and the information on the episode comes out the same daisy episodes Kinda Nice. Have that in your inbox John. I mentioned briefly. You're working over Max stories but you do you do a lot of things or stories a yeah. I've got a few different roles over there. I mean obviously I'm writing day in and day out with Federico and Ryan I also do a podcast with Federico called APP stories. So one of the things we've done a couple of times now is talk about catalysts lists catalyst APPs on that show And you know we we run club back stories. Which is our membership program as a subscription service service for people who aren't even more of the stuff we do so yep I keep myself busy with all those things John also is a rescue person so so when we were all at maxine together this summer and my flight on the way home got cancelled after it got delayed delayed delayed delayed and so I had to call John like hey? I don't have any clothes or anything. Saw The suitcases gone but I'm still in Chicago. Can I stay with you a night. And you're very gracious assist host me For extra night in your home and so you know. I'm not saying that anyone who get stuck in Chicago. You would rescue but rescued me in a lot. Well it was. It was a lot of fun and you know it's a little bit our houses kind of a relay. FM Halfway House in that sentence you get stuck in Chicago. You know you don't know where to go you're on the the street you can. You can stop by my house. That's that's fair. Well that's that's good. No Chicago a lot so I'll definitely show up up one day with my luggage. Sounds good. Maybe you'll be next David. But you know we talked about catalyst when we did the Catalina show and first of all why on earth did they name a catalyst the same year they're releasing an operating system called Catalina. Why did they do that to us? Guys it's really hard. I know that when I wrote my Catalina Review on Max Stories I wrote catalyst and Catalina interchangeably so many times and I was sure there was going to be a mistake in the final draft but Yes it's very hard to keep the two straight apple did They've sort of shifted their language. They call it Mac catalyst now. I wonder if it's because of this confusion by. Yeah I could definitely see that being the case because it is a little hard to keep them straighten your head. But Catalina Z.. Operating system and catalyst is the technology I guess and and what does the technology do for the folks that that aren't up on this. Yeah so you know Mac. APPS are built with something called APP kit which is a set of frameworks for building Mac APPs and when IOS debuted eleven years ago now it was based at its core on Os is ten now Mac os and but but over the year. The years those things grew apart. And you know I o s is you I kit and and that's how you build those apps and so what catalyst is designed to do it's to bring these two things back together to some degree so you can take you. I Kit APPs that are built on the IPAD and bring them over the Mac so that its simplest top level viewpoint. That's exactly what it is. You have an IPAD APP. You can bring it over into the MAC now you know. It was interesting when this was debuted at W. C. in June. If you just sat to the keynote you might be under the impression and that all you had to do is check a box. Yeah and you know you check a box and you've got backup. It's really not that simple and guests to apple's credit in the in the developer keynotes later in the sessions it was explained that yeah it'll run but it's not necessarily GonNa look like the best Mac Mac APP effort. You've got to actually do some things to make it more desktop compatible. So you know. That's that's one of the things that I think may have come as is a bit of a surprise over the summer to a lot of people is that it's not. This is not just an IPAD APP. Dropped on your Mac. You can do that. And there were some APPS at launch that were a little like that but to really have a good APP on the Mac. That's coming over from the IPAD. You have to do a lot more work

Is Lean Protein Really Better For You?

"Now, some protein foods that are higher in fat such as fried chicken or pepperoni, our foods that you might want to limit but not necessarily because they're high in fat fried foods, for example, tend to be high in h n es these are toxic compounds that are formed when polyunsaturated oils I repeatedly heated or held at high temperatures. Most restaurants, not only fry foods and polyunsaturated oils, but they reuse the oil over and over again, I talk more about that. In my episode, which are best for cooking now, the cured meats like pepperoni and ham and bacon are high in nitrates and nitrites which when combined with protein can form toxic compounds in the gut called nitrosamines. And this might be why it's that are high in cured and processed meats are linked with a higher risk of colon cancer. But remember the dose makes the poison. It's okay to enjoy fry. Foods or cured meats every once in a while. But these probably aren't foods that she want to be eating every day. And here's a fun fact eating lots of fresh vegetables can help to neutralize the formation of those nitrosamines and the gut so if you are indulging in some cured meats don't skimp on the salad or the crew tastes. You know, judging meet strictly by its fat content can lead to some ridiculous conclusions serving of salmon has three times as much fat as a serving of ham, for example. But the fat in salmon is in the form of heart healthy omega threes while that lean ham is high salt and nitrites. We're also being encouraged to seek out more plant based sources of protein these days such as legs seeds and nuts now leg you are certainly low in fat, but nuts and seeds are up to eighty percent fat. And here's the thing. We don't eat protein. We eat food and most protein foods are going to provide a mixture of protein and other nutrients such as fat or carbohydrate, but more to the point most of our meals are going to contain more than one food. So are evaluating the nutritional makeup of various foods, we really need to take the whole diet into consideration. If you get a lot of your protein from leg you. For example. You're also going to be getting quite a bit of carbohydrate in the process. So you might not have quite as much remind your plate for grains, or starchy vegetables. If you get a lot of your protein from nuts and seeds on the other hand will you're going to be getting a lot of fat along with that. So you might not have quite as much room in your meal plan for avocados or whipped cream. And if you enjoy cuts of meat or types of fish that are relatively high in fat. Well, you might not have quite as much room for nuts or high fat dairy. I think you get my point. And if you're interested in how to get more protein for fewer calories, you can check out my episode on protein density. But I think it's time to retire the notion of lean protein how about

Is Facebook scandal proof? (The 3:59, Ep. 513)

"Tonight. I'm Roger Chang. I'm Joanie Saltzman. Earning season is in full swing and Facebook. Ultimately had a good day yesterday. What started out with this big spout? Apple and it with the company posting a huge jump in profits and user growth, the monthly active user base, which is the big metric they follow rose nine percent to two point three two billion also posted a Hugh sixty one percent jump in profits. This company is scandal proof, right? Like well. They have the scandals are still having in right? The problems are still they're just not in their financials. Right. It's a great business. The end it's waiting consumers private data's really lucrative. Really is. Yeah. Disappointly on the call. No one asked about the whole research up scandal or the you know, the apple at all. I missed the call. Nope. See like, this is what I think is interesting because one of the things that sucker set on the 'cause like this raw stuff like we've turned a corner past. Two years year and a half we've been focusing on fixing these problems, and now we can really turn a corner and focus on innovation again. And it's like you can't even make phone beta apps anymore because apple is like punishing you for your behavior. How are you going to be innovative and parv there his prepared statements or I don't know where someone needed to go in that a little bit? Yeah. There's a weird little nuggets. He didn't mention I thought was funny. He mentioned that portal sales did better than he expected which makes me wonder like what his expectations were. We'll sell five. Who bought one of those things? I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. That's interesting that he said that about portal sales. Yeah. And so I mean, look this is proof that the delete Facebook movement as much noise as a got last year. Hasn't really had that much impact. Yeah. I mean, it's another one of those things where it's hard to know. I mean, so when we look at monthly daily active users they've gone up your every year. But I believe that haven't monthly after users basically stayed level the past coupla sequentially club show. Yet. Good staying staying sort of like on even keel, which in Facebook terms is not great like face with friends is all about relentless growth growth. So that's one way of looking at it. So we'll see. So apple wasn't the only maker to disappoint. Samsung also posted last night steep declines in revenue and profit. This was everything from weaker smartphone. Sales to lower chip demand. Really everything was kind of bad. It's not really surprised both apple Samson less. Your phones that were pretty much the same devices as a year ago booth like a little bit of an upgrade. So it's clear that I think either folks are hungry for something different or the smartphone market has peaked. And we're at a point where like smartphone sales declined for the first time. Yeah. So which makes sense because I mean, my phone's good enough. Yeah. Three my phone's. They're all good enough for me. It's hard.
