"Although we are american citizen and we feel american in every way our because you know of another land where we came from is always a part of ice and we feel. That varies uniqueness about us that we bring to the united states a flavor that would not exist with that they contra example that alone brings to the united states is indian american who is in charge of the indian movie festival and our. She brought a flavor to the united states. That was no there. People always thought of indians as people that are writing on white elephants or something like that and she brought to the united states indian culture. That was not as well known. And that's what i mean by us. Immigrants bringing the flavor that makes america special. Is there anything that i may have missed that. You wanted to touch on in this conversation. Yes i want people to understand the readers to understand that what american immigrant of being to the united states especially now in the time of the pandemic how grateful we are. We should be an empathetic. We should be to those immigrants who risk their life for us. They bring our mail. They take care of people in the hospital and in old age homes. They they deliver our food. There is their life for us. And i just hope that reading those stories of those amazing women will empower. "An icon on in middle age she was one of the first people to speak out About the importance of raising money and awareness for aids. All of her managers agents and friends said do not touch that You know it's going to put people off of you Nobody nobody wants to think about it. It's the gay cancer. It was all of that and she said you know what my friends are dying. And i really don't care what it does to my reputation. I'm going to use my power and use my voice to Make people aware of this so she kinda has a double difficult nature to her. You know you pick such disparate women here among the twenty nine and apart from the obvious that the connecting thread is. They're all difficult. What is another threat here for you. Well that's an excellent question. I've been pondering it because my interests are pretty Ecumenical as as it. Were you know i interested in a lot of things and i'm interested in a lot of different walks of life that are represented here. I think if i was pressed i was hacked to say that. All of these women on balance were more interested in what they felt was true about them than in what the culture expected of them. Now it's not to say that that they would never you know be upset if somebody was disapproving of them or whatever but they didn't they didn't sort of contorted their personalities to make other people happy and i think i mean certainly for myself when i think of some of the wisdom i got from from my mother You know a lot of it was old. Don't don't let people get upset If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all you know. And there's this way of like my mother. I think knew. I was going to be kind of the strong willed female and she was always trying to kind of find a way to sort of tamp that down and sort of mold that so i moved through the world in a way that i would be more acceptable and i think my women having none of that. Whoever they were everybody else was going to have to kind of just get with. The program will move along the road. So why twenty nine Well it was originally thirty to be honest and it it was something that My editor because the whole time. I was writing the book over years. You know we sort of we're having ongoing conversation about who was in. Who was out. We have too many writers because you'll writers are always fascinated by other writers but not so much the rest of the world as it turns out he But she thought was was interesting to look at indira. Gandhi and i was already sort of put back on my heels. I'm like first of all. I don't know too much about her. Like it doesn't she doesn't spring to mind when i'm just rattling off women that i'm but i will because because frankly i'm an accommodating about a typical woman learn not or most of the time i'm accommodating i said you know i will check it out i will check her out and see if i can feel that feeling that i that i required to forward and You know she certainly was a strong woman. She certainly i think dragged india into the into the modern age. But she also was a proponent of sterilization for her own people and that was just the dealbreaker I said you know that's a bridge too far for me. I can't find any way into that to make it interesting or inspiring or you know so so there we were and i said listen. Twenty nine is a great number. And i thought you know. I've written a book about difficult women. And now i am going to be a difficult woman. Twenty nine is a great number. It's a prime number years ago. They used to say. Don't trust anybody over thirty. So twenty nine is really a way better number than thirty and so i sold twenty nine as the number. I love it indira. Gandhi forces odd number for difficult women's great. So who else is in the book. There's some a few funny women. I mean nor ephron senate. She's funny carrie fisher. Any polar and i think it's always really important to never forget that anytime a woman resorts oh margaret shows and there too That anytime women resort to humor It's it's pretty transgressive and provocative and so of course there would be. There would be funny people in the book as well karen. What you expand on this because even the women you just mentioned are very different in their humor right. Well i think You know in particular you know if you look at carrie fisher margaret show. They have used humor to discuss. Things that are are pretty intimate And serious for them You know carrie fisher. Rest in peace long before there was the internet and social media And people were sort of sharing everything there is to share. She was quite upfront about her addiction issues and her mental struggles with her mental health and she was funny about it and i just think that that that that's just sort of a double whammy that it's very hard for people to kind of absorb that not only. Are you telling us you know these things about yourself. That hurt you and that you struggle with but you're also so damn funny so You know that that that was sort of carrie. Fisher's mark for me and Margaret show similarly. You know she talks about You know american. Asian culture and prejudice that exist there and her own experience in hollywood. Having short lived sitcom Where no koreans were worked on the crew or were on the show. It was just sort of any any attractive asian that they could get And she talks about that a lot as well as you know in addition to sort of gender things and so on and so forth and she's she's really out there and very funny so i just think when women you know are not only sort of saying things that make people uncomfortable but they're also very funny It's just they're always difficult. I think you don't even have to like that. That always checks the box that was author. Karen carbos speaking with fifty one percents alison done about her book. In praise of difficult women life lessons from twenty nine heroines. Who dared to break the rules. You can hear her full interview on episode fifteen o four. Dr bill koch has ner. She speaks with women from around the world about their journeys to america and the obstacles they faced. We spoke last summer. And i asked why she decided to write the book as israeli immigrant. I felt that In the time we leave It is difficult for young women immigrants to achieve their dreams and when we the universal bone of sisterhood and the growing voices of me too i decided to tell powerful stories with which i hope to refute the policies passed immigrants into faceless group. No matter where they came from they always feel that they don't belong and since my life mirrored there. I decided to tell those stories of those amazing to anyone. Women hoping that it will inspire young immigrants. That feels that they do not belong one of the women who you talk within your book is jacqueline moody. Taytay who immigrated to the us to live with an uncle. She never knew after her family was killed in the rwandan genocide. Here you have a woman whose lived the true horrors of racism and discrimination. I'm curious what her thoughts were on..

"I'm elizabeth hill and this is fifty one percent bestselling author karen carbos book in praise of difficult women. Life lessons from twenty nine heroines. Who dared to break the rules features women who refused to choose between being treated themselves or being accepted and loved carbo writes about free to kalo nora. Ephron hillary clinton carrie fisher elizabeth taylor. Helen gurley brown laverne cox lena dunham and others all she says are spirited rule-breakers who charted their way with little regard for social or cultural expectations. Carbos spoke with fifty one percents alison done in two thousand eighteen. I've always been drawn to stories of women who lived incredible lives when i was a little girl before i could even read. My parents had a subscription national geographic. And it was sort of during the height of jane goodall And when they were covering her. And i remember looking at her in africa with the chimps and just being swept away and this was before i even start at kindergarten So i've always been drawn to these stories and have always pursued biographies of interesting women. And then when i was in My first semester in college my mother died quite unexpectedly and as it turned out in my family i became at the age of seventeen the oldest woman in my family i had no grandmothers or answer cousins or sisters. Anybody who's older than me and at that moment in time i just found a lot of solace I discovered martha gill horn then It was a time when free to call was coming into the four and you know they just. They provided me with inspiration and solace and away to go forward in life because literally i was literally on my own so this has been You know a book that that has has quite a genesis. A decades long genesis and You know like. I said this is nothing that i kind of sat there and thought now i can write about. Get the coat women. Because i this has been a passion of mine for quite some time carrying before we dive into speaking about some of the women you've written about. Let's talk about using the word difficult in the title. difficult can have a negative connotation. And i'm wondering how you hope it's perceived well it can have a negative connotation. I'm hoping that like nasty woman. It becomes just another word that we embrace that we say. Of course. i'm difficult you know. Would you expect anything else. I think it's it's you know the. The word is levied at women because we do feel the pinch of it and we do feel the sting of it and the point of it is to put you back in your place right. It's like saying you're laying woman. Don't be difficult. Don't inconvenience us. Don't upset us. So i think if we if we no longer feel it as a slap but just as an adjective that's accurate You know we will take back some of the power of it. I mean. I was called difficult when i was in kindergarten. You know my kindergarten teacher. I was having some problems Switching from painting to story time. And i pitched my parents came in and my teacher said You know it's interesting not the behavior. She did not say. Karen had a temper tantrum when it was time stopped painting she said karen insists on being difficult And i never knew really. It took me like twenty years to actually figure out what that meant. Because i was very confused when i was a kid. 'cause i thought no i just wanna finish my painting. The point is is that yes. It's a word that's that's put on us when we You know we're not going along with the program. We're not we're not Honoring the cultural expectation of us to be nice and pleasant and consensus builders and not inconveniencing. Anybody else. the second we do that not all the time but often we risk being called difficult. How did you select the women you did. You know maybe you have the first three or four and then you had to give it a little more thought so maybe you could take us through the process. Well there are twenty nine women and As you might imagine it was a long process and the roster changed you know. Dozens of times easily My bottom line for me was it had to be somebody who i was a little in love with i. I was in love with her life. Her choices the glamour. You know her. Sexiness and jed to be inspirational to me so for all the women that were considered i had to think like. Do i have this heart connection with this person because i've written enough to know that unless you have that level of fascination it's it'll just be like a book report you know it it and especially because you know i had twenty nine of these essays to right and so i had to be passionate so that was the bottom line Beyond that i wanted there to be diversity and and you know. I wanted there to be racial diversity and ethnic diversity. There are women from other countries Socioeconomic diversity sexual orientation. I really wanted there to be diversity. I wanted there to be diversity among personality types. You know there. There isn't just one kind of difficult woman. I wanted her to be introverts and extroverts and makers and doers and and talkers and and and just a whole kaleidoscope of kind of female character so it got complicated because as the book started really taking shape and the slots became kind of fewer and fewer. It looks like okay who you know. What do i really wanna represent here. What do i feel this missing. What do i feel You know i do. I definitely feel like. I need to need to include so it was. It was a very long process but The bottom line was that they really had to inspire me. it was just. It was just quite simple. And as you explain they do run the gamut but maybe you could just talk about a few all right well. You know it's interesting because there are some that obvious that are perhaps obvious. So gloria steinem is in the book. And i think we all have an understanding of of why she would. She would have been called difficult so she she was sort of like one of the banner terriers but there are also people like Amelia earhart who was a girlhood idol. Who was actually quite introverted And the introverted. Difficult women are the ones that really really fascinate me. Because i think when we think of difficult women we think of women who are chassis and who speak out and who are leading the rallies and writing the books and and you know talking Amelia was quite. She was a little shy. She was very polite. You know very well bred and very kind but she was one of those women that basically just did exactly what she wanted to do And she would still be polite she would still be denies and she would just disappearing go to the airport and get in her plane and fly away like quite literally so That's one sort of difficult woman Another sort of difficult living which I think people have been surprised by is Elizabeth taylor one of the reasons. Why i included. Her is because she was. She was born in nineteen in the nineteen thirties and Became an actress at a time. When essentially actresses were sort of owned by the hollywood studios Their behavior was was dictated by their publicists. They were supposed to be you know very Not not as sort of out there. And he male and sexual as elizabeth taylor was she was one of the first actresses who basically said. Never complain never explain. I'm doing exactly what i want. And you are going to have to deal with it. So that was her younger years. Then when she became.

Pete Hegseth and Mark Levin Talk About 'American Marxism' Purpose

"Go. To page 2 51 you're talking about Washington reading pains. Words at the Battle of Trenton and part of what you say is our challenge today Think speaking of 17 76 is just as crucial and urgent and in many ways more complicated. We did not ask for this confrontation, but it is here. And in truth, like the early days of the Revolutionary War we are losing most of the country has been caught flat footed and remains UN engaged. This book feels like Your attempt to get people on flat footed and leaning forward. How do they do that? No, Pete. First of all the problem is I sound self serving When I tell people please read the book. So if you buy the book, just pass it to somebody else and have them pass by somebody else or go to the library or something like that. Because, as you know, There's a lot in the book, and it's not intended to overwhelm its intended to explain how do we do that? First of all, whether it's a political operation or military operation or a business plan or anything else. We need to know who our enemy is. Now. I don't say political adversary. Don't say opponents. These are people who want to take down this country and they are well along the way. And we see this. It's not just critical race theory. It's so many other aspects of our institutions. Our traditions are under attack things that you would never believed in your lifetime. You would hear R C Are in executive orders are being pushed in these massive omnibus bills that Congress is pushing you turn on the television. You hear this propaganda over the media is basically the mouthpiece for these various movements. I said I got to look into this. You know, I've written a lot of books, and this doesn't smell

Massive Flight Delays, Cancellations Prompt Finger-Pointing

"Are racking up an unprecedented number of delays and flight cancellations just months after Congress gave the industry $54 billion to survive the pandemic. From July 1 to July six. Jet blue, for example, delayed 51% of its flights. Southwest Airlines delayed 39% an American Airlines 34% of its flights. What's going on here is Karl Evers Hellstrom. Business and lobbying reporter at the Hill. Carl give US background. So a lot of the biggest airlines have seen sort of a massive increase in delays and cancellations as people actually returned to summer travel. So we saw that around the fourth of July the weekend that some of the top carriers were delaying anywhere from a third to 50% of their flights. Um And I think that has, you know, obviously ruined a lot of people's plans. Um, and also kind of annoyed a lot of the unions and other critics who pointed to, you know, Airlines having taken a lot of, uh, you know government funds to try to ensure that they have kind of a seamless transition back to flying very often. TV Producer Holly Rymon on Dealing With Sexual Harassment on Set

"Hollywood directors and producers being accused of sexual harassment in the workplace in recent years and the uprising of the metoo movement. I ask raymond if she ever felt uncomfortable at work. Because of a man's advances or comments a little bit you know. I've always been sort of headstrong as far as like not putting much stock in that Wearing what. I want to wear doing what i wanna do. Not worrying about looking feminine or trying to be like a man. I just kind of always had sort of strange center confidence But yeah of course you do but up against it you see it happen to other people you try to. And once you get into management have the added Sort of responsibility sometimes getting into conversations with people And trying to make sure that doesn't happen on your set or how to solve it And there's been instances especially in some of these larger stunt driven shows. They're very a lot of men in the room. I mean there were instances where there were twelve of us all making decisions and i was the only female And that's fine You know you know it. It sometimes feels a little lopsided and but honestly i you know for whatever reason I just i just never let it get to my head. And i was fortunate enough not to have any sort of bad interactions personally With with anyone in there's always a little bit of that. Underlying ryan says the instances of inappropriate behavior. She witnessed where less often onset and usually in the office. There's someone who's making comments to someone else that might feel inappropriate or there are You know in a couple. Instances there were older men and younger women and there were there. Were comments made to people that the younger women didn't feel comfortable with and how you delicately go in there and try to try to stop that from happening in educating honestly people who who have maybe grown up in a time where these things weren't as As something that you talked about his match or tried to solve it was just like. Oh that's just you know whoever doing whatever they do you know and and now there's a lot more consciousness as a mother of two young ladies Who that that's just not acceptable and so Those are those conversations are an enjoyable. "And what many people call oregon's area fifty one not far from oregon's lincoln city downtown is the six hundred and eighty five acre devil's lake. One hundred years ago. It was called indian bay. That is until it was invaded by an evil spirit. Said that indian warriors attempted to cross late one night when returning from a hunting trip never reached the other side subtler till i'll how tentacles came out of the water wrapped around the indians canoe and pulled them under to this day. Many locals will not approach the lake at night. Although the devils like monster hasn't been seen in a hundred years it said that dust the spirits of the warriors can be viewed at the water's edge searching for their canoes continued travelling north from lincoln city on route eighteen. And you enter the twelve mile van doozer cord or where it said you'll pass by oregon's own area. Fifty one many drivers using a corridor as a commute to lincoln city. "You know, going back to the old ones I read. Amazing number one, Twenty-One which I've read before and sequence off and Target old ones. This one still holds up. I think it's still a good well written story and they did it so well they didn't you know it opens with you know well we're not going to reveal the title yet. Do you know the rebate you like and it's weird looking at it now because if you only know Spider-Man from like the even the 80s 90s 2000s the movies, it's it's always Mary Jane, you know, but before that, the first hundred twenty issues, it was Gwen Stacy, and and her dad died and but knew who Peter was and that was like Peter's like oh my God you know, maybe log. Can have a life and he's got Gwen, and then Goblin goes crazy. And it's not even that Goblin kills her. And it's not even a she dies because they're, it's just bought a physics and he did everything he could to save her and he still didn't have enough. That's what he kicked himself for the next three decades. Exactly that. You know, that's, that's well, that's me to put it. You'll find a way to kill him. That still tell her that left him with horrible guilt. You know what I mean? He was trying to save her, he thought he had saved her and then terminal velocity in terms of hitting, but in snapping off, and that looks like it was just going to say that, you know, that the writer was like, I'm going to

What Separates Humans From Other Animals?

"Animals. I mean my dog has a 401k. Also why do we pace. When we're stressed or anxious like in the bugs bunny cartoons. Somebody's waiting outside the delivery for so andrew came across a paper in the journal. Frontiers in psychology which. I was so charmed by that. You've read as we can talk about it. It's called acquisition of a joystick operated video task by pigs. How could i forget for the listener. I'll just explain. These experiments were carried out at penn state university. There were four pigs. A pair of yorkshire pigs named hamlet an omelette and a pair of panna pinto micro pigs named ebony and ivory. I guess after stevie wonder and paul mccartney or the song of that name or after piano keys and the paper describes what the pigs were and were not able to learn in these experiments manipulating video game joystick with their snouts. And what i really want to know is tell us how it changes your thinking as a psychologist if it all about non human animals their capabilities. The way we should think about them perhaps differently about ourselves differently. Well thank you for broadening. My academic horizons. I would not have read this paper on video games and makes were it not for our friendship so i i will just say that when i read this line i literally laughed out loud after twelve weeks of training. Hamlet and omelette were terminated from the experiment because they had grown too large no fit within the constraints of the test pen. Academic research is tough. You lose fifty percent of your research pool just like that so anyway now down to two test subjects by the way. So one of my intuitions is that one ought not an. I understand that this research is hard. But maybe not generalize to olive pig them based on this very small number of pigs because look at wilbur wright some pig yeah so maybe ebony or ivory were some one of them was much better than the other in the research so there's various across pigs even yes. "What did you get the one last thing you mentioned adult catch we. We've been telling my kid. They now that like every time. You open a rapper. Hey what's that like. He's like very cognizant of food and he says. I just want to eat. You know 'cause when kids are bored they what they do So we've turned everything into. Oh that's that's adult candy that's triggered a propel this morning net that's adult water anyway so i've got lazy again this week brent and ordered And i again from a chinese restaurant and black beans squid so in a black bean sauce. So it's a typical music. Yeah me too. i don't. it's so funny. I don't know blended here. We haven't tried to get. I don't know if it's fermented or what but by black beans sauces asian style. Don't taste like black beans something mexican style. A black bean sauce. Asian style typically means really robust good kinda sweet savory anxious your favorite word so it's it's black it's it's squid and black bean sauce and it's it's you know the squid is like the longer pieces that are look like they've been Scored if you know what. I mean like Cut left to right it's not what it basically. It's not like when you're thinking of calamari the little the little circles I it's not from that part of the squid I don't really know what part of squids from. But that's that's what it is and it's got. It's got green green peppers onions and the sauce and it is. It's good it's good. I wouldn't say it's great. I probably wouldn't ordered again like on Like oh we're ordering chinese tonight. I'll take the black beans squid so somebody else worried. I might take a bite. You know if you're someone that if you were to go out to have dinner and they had the battered fried squid is an appetizer. Calamari fried batter calamari. Yeah yeah i do yeah. Lots of pepper hotter spicier sometimes especially like it when it's it's It's calamari and vegetables. So that they've all been everything's and it's like hala pinos every hugging cauliflower. There's always cauliflower. And i'm always dumb acid by the cauliflower. When i'm idiot should've went to boudicca. This probably been had this fucking problem. Yeah goes your mouth at a boudicca. Party is good. It's true the say about the squid. I don't know what they do to it beforehand. But whatever they do makes it not too chewy chewy. But like if you've ever tried to take raw squid and prepare it at home and you don't do something whether that's cut it a certain way and soak it and boil it. I don't know what all the various steps of oak stake. it is like it. It's like kind like octopus. It's like chewing on your shoe. You know and and most asian places i gotta admit even if the flavor is not that great they figure out how to not make it to always just sit it out About two hours. Before i'm gonna do it. Drain it sit out next to a shot of rum in my job. Who statue come back to it about an hour later. It's ready to go. Oh got you know say this. It can't hit a curveball but it tastes good. we'll say this.

"Not that great to the salt vinegar was by far the best in my opinion. And you find I thought of Okay, so I. I thought of what these things remind me of there are. I'm forgetting what kind of beans but there's a kind of being that not chickpeas, though it's similar, chickpeas that you dry roast, and then you eat a snack like that's the thing you can them dry roasted already. is not a specialty store. Most most and I'm forgetting the name of it right now. inconsequential but. Those beans whatever beans are dry, roasted in sold as a snack. That's what these remind me of both in flavor and inconsistency. Beans listener who I don't have it in front of me. I've forgotten, but has sent many times. We need to do this thing. IT IS A. Asian cuisine cuisine dish where they take a bean, and then it ferments and becomes sticky, and when you pull it out like if you put a spoon, you pull it it strings like cheese like, but it's all like the fermentation from them and they eat The kids eat it and adults eat it, and it's one of those like vegemite. It's an you know you love it or you hate it. And I've looked to try to find it and they have it on. On Amazon, but you either GonNa make it yourself, or it's super expensive ready to go so The name is escaping me, but it is. cheesy beans. It looks really fucked growth, though when you see it, but like fermented beans I'd try I like fermented stuff. I'll try pretty much. speaking of fermented something. I don't eat that. You always eat when we go out Kimchi. I just had some on my breakfast. I'm not a fan at all. It's just it's just a rancid taste to me. I always always try things that I know I. Don't like every once in a while. Just in case because you chase, do change. Yeah, that's true. That's true I've tried to incorporate is the. Mushrooms and I've tried to start to incorporate those into some of the dishes I cook just to see if I I still can't do like the. Gross Button canned mushrooms. They put on a pizza. Those are like yeah. I don't really care for those but I don't like I grown up. We always My Dad went and got a mushroom mushroom hunting. Yeah, yeah, and I've never been a mushroom fan. I will eat it. I just don't enjoy it. They. Put some mushrooms. They put some different types of mushrooms. Asian cooking that I. Don't mind the Shitaki. Mushrooms kind of diced up in sautes or good There's a eat a lot of hot and sour soup, and there is a there's a type of mushroom. They always put in our soup. That looks like it's had kind of black and looks like cartilage. Almost it's like real wavy I. Don't know how to describe. It doesn't look like a mushroom. It's. A whatever type of mushroom that is, doesn't taste like a mushroom to me and I like that I like the consistency what I've tried to do at home is sought. I for me a consistency. Thanks dyson really small, and then sauteed in butter tea with a steak. And Okay I can. I can deal with that pretty well. Like you know there's a lot of things that people probably said. Cartilage made me think tripe I like tripe I. Really Liked tripe in In soups and things like that, you know then another thing that like people probably don't eat just because of what it is, which is. Actually hit on one of the few things out there that I have tried and do not like because I. Love Vietnamese food and my favorite. Vietnamese food is probably thought. It's there. It's there. Their traditional soup right Vietnamese. Bowl everything and I fucking love it. It's great and one of the ingredients that you can get it with tripe. Yeah, I always get I like it, but yeah Patty. I can't do it I. Just I just. There's something about it. I don't enjoy the flavor or the consistency like. Both of those two combined anything that you have to wash in squeeze and wash and squeeze. Wash and squeeze. You know you ever watched them. Yeah, the preparation. Yeah, you're eating this intestinal tract. Domino yeah so the the other thing that gets washed, and and and and there's a whole process to it. Are like Mussels and clams. And I love those but I only do them at restaurants because it's such A. A muscles. Aren't that bad, but like oysters. Used to be served officially. If you're eating it on I, have show. They need to be alive. And you can sick if you don't do them right Oh. Yeah, and if you like clams, you have to sure that they that the still alive when you cook them and you pop them and see if they open a little bit. I don't I like clams I. Don't enjoy oysters at all. I think it's of the consistency just like the taste I. Don't know but yeah muscles. You know I. Don't Mind Oysters here and there my favorite. Sorry but. Clams yeah. Favorite muscles are when they do him. Steamed in like a pot of You know some real good butter, white wine, sauce tomatoes, whatever and they give you like the bread on the sides eat the clan, the muscles and dip the bread and the juice scrape. I also like Hong. Kong fritters and conch salad stuff like that, you know. I like to. If, it's fresh like. Konkan can get chewy pretty quickly. You know very much, so yeah, almost hard. Yeah, not not good if it's like that at all. So Brent. Would you say the salt and vinegar was your favorite blue? Fortunately? Yes, I have a favorite flavoring on my cricket, but yeah. I would. I would say that's the way to go. Further furthermore, will you now once? We're off this episode. Go finish the mayor. I will not, but I will probably move them downstairs from the studio and try to get other people to finish them I. don't see them going bad because I. Don't think you're going to notice. Did it justice. Oh, the drumstick just popped off! One, two three. That one really crunched I heard it. Again. Just just super dry I, don't I? I will say that the. Greg I'm not eating this one but the. salt and vinegar had more taste. To me than the Bacon and cheese, but maybe that would just cause. "Today I'm like Oh! Yeah was really weird like you got the last one or something like that. Maybe I. Don't know if they have like a expiration date on the bottom, best buy two twenty, four, twenty two, so I feel like it won't matter of from a fresh perspective. No, but they're. They're dried out. Flavor pasted cricket. I don't think we're GONNA to notice a dip in these days a little stale stay. Barely, you can barely get a flavor of the egg sac. So, let's so we have three different flavors of crickets listeners. We got salt and vinegar. Bacon cheese. Sour cream and onion, yes, and unless we dry heave or something bad happens. You know Brent gets a A A flipper stuck in his stuck in his mar- something. We're going to try all three. WE AREN'T GONNA trail I duNno, we'll see I'm starting I'm GonNa tell you start with salt and vinegar I. Don't know why I just want to start with that one. It's got a nice. Package! These are not they're not churched up in any way. It is just a little bitty box. Think of like chocolates. And outside, it has a little window, and you can see the plastic that is holding a whole bunch of fucking bugs, and the crickets are, and when you say not sure anyway away. That's really good way of putting it. It's not like they pull. The grind them up or they pull pull the legs off to make them look more at. It's literally like you could. If it moved, you wouldn't be surprised if it flew away like it is a cricket that you'd find just sitting on the ground. Photos, photos here and showing the bag of. Good Yeah I hear it I don't know if that's the plastic or just. The eggs breaking a leg break eggs. Literature Church. All right. Now Okay so the four we Divan Brent. Have you ever eaten a bug before like? I used to have a motorcycle I've followed many bug. s three like whereas men is a food source I. don't even know if this is meant as food sources more mentors like a a torture, yes. No I have not I. don't even know I. don't even know how to poor these Adams going to pour so the legs. Speaking of legs didn't really make it real well. Now the fell off. Does he brent right through. One of these little guys. It's very hard in my smell baggage. Is it does smell like? Oh, my God knows like Lay's. Chips does it really does The last time I ate a bug I ate A. Cricket or grasshopper that was inside of a sucker I bought. Those before and I remember not tasting bad I remember having a distinct taste like a taste that I walked away, knowing that was that Yup Grossed out, but it was a thing when we were talking about before you order these we were. That was looking online and one of the things you can get readily. Available on Amazon is like sauteed. Tarantula! And different kinds of tarantula that is a whole lot of bug. That's on another level. just. Allender, if you actually get a meanest to it like a A delicacy in some places and I've seen them open them up and they're gonNA give you look at it and I. Don't know if it's more like a like. You're not gooey, but like a like A. Lobster you know or or or crab or something like that? Well I I wouldn't do it not because it'd be grossed out about it. I like Tarantulas as pets. I had a couple of growing up I'm a fan not that you can't eat animals that you also pigs and I also like to eat them, but Yeah! I don't think go for transplant I. I.

"That. The dark side we deserve. We get to see the Gods Leagues. In them, defeat. Steppenwolf, and you mean that that that was filled I didn't do it. Yeah, the Zeus or whoever it is defeated dark side. So we're going to get a lot more of Alec. Where we saw lantern flying around and all so my question is what if this is wildly insanely popular? What if they walk away from that going Holy Shit? This is what it was supposed to have. been and millions upon millions of people are are more than willing to throw out their hard earned money at this exact thing. Do they then try to ret conned back in to Bat Fleck, and back into everything that they're trying to summarily destroy album. Just send out crickets there in they eat them, and then that's how it that's how it happens. I can tell you're working on your transitions. I this is a weird one, and this one is also that the actors were like that is not the movie that we filmed, and it's pieces of shit you know. All excited about about the Snyder. Now I just my point is like I. is there any hope that we get back on track to what they were what Snyder was building? If it's good, let's just we could be bad. It's a whole bunch of other bad shit, too, so I'm not holding my breath, but at least this might be better. I don't know I. Don't know, the powers that be at Warner. Brothers seemed to not have a fucking clue what to do with DC so that that's unfortunate, because certain stories are amazing, and they just can't put them in a pen to paper when it comes to making a movie for some reason last thing on that I, always wanted to see more of that and you you, you'll know this. You know comics better than I do Brent but There's like this there is this dystopia in future comic series with Batman that they kind of flash forwarded to in in Batman V. Superman via. They've worksite took over. At Yeah Yeah and Superman got. You know he's a bad guy? Got Batman hanging up? and you know the cut people in half with his laser is like I was looking forward to to seeing more of that is well. Go Watch dark side. I'm sorry Justice League. Dark apocalypse were he couldn't get a good tasting. One. That's the new cartoons and cartoon I saw the original Justice League dark, but I haven't seen the new one yet. That's that's what that's about. They get fucked up, yeah! Yeah. All right speaking of fucked up. This was okay, so this was my idea. I sent these to you Britain. We, actually so when we started the cafeteria episodes towards the beginning of the pandemic. This is actually one of my first ideas We didn't get to it for a while. Because I ordered him on the same day from Amazon not like two different sellers, same seller, yeah, installer I got mine in like three days, and yours took a month and a half. Yeah! You got you're like. Hey, I got a notification. They're delivering it today

"They are flavored like potato chips. This is cafeteria fifty-one John I gotTA. Tell you have a pretty good constitution as I, you know. Eating things you'll copy of the constitution. This one's bothering me a little bit this. Is it just the thought of it and I don't know why, and almost as if it was appropriate on facebook. Someone posted a meeting today, and it said a pound of flies has like twice as much protein as a pound of beef. Well they do say that. The like the food of the future if we were to be in a world where resources became more scarce food of the future is about. No piercers know how it goes. Super, healthy, super high in protein, mugs and the occasional arm. I saw that movie. It's a great movie. I have not watched the reinvented television show yet. Have you know I was aware of it? And that's as far as I've delved into it. I have no idea if they on a different train or different telling because it Kinda ended his. You know the. I guess we should I think. It feels. I. Think it's kind of a throwback like remember the early nineties every time there's a successful movie. They'd put on TV show version. That had literally nothing to do with the movie. Was a ferris BUEHLER'S DAY OFF TV show. I think which was no parker, Lewis can't lose. No I loved Parker Lewis can't lose. There was there was a clueless, TV show and like most of these they they didn't have the same actors. Mount high had its own. Oh really I didn't know that yeah. yeah, so the the The the tradition continues with snow. Piercer and we're GONNA find out that it's actually an extension of the movie. And all the same actors just 'cause. We didn't research it, but whatever? He no longer has any marvel commitments so. What's his name? WHO's a Chris Evans? Captain America true. It's yeah, he. He's made it official that he will not ever pick up the shield again. I mean that's until ten years from now when. He doesn't have work and their operative bullet money. I mean Robert Downey junior has already relented on the I'll never be ironman again. Right? Right you just like. Wolverine? And I'll never be unless they get the rights and they get the right slow shit. No. That's the thing you read these reports. Especially on that one Hugh Jackman. It's like one week. It's I'll never be wolverine again the next week. It's like I'm waiting for them to call within the other side of the Aisle Henry Cavill just signed up to be superman for a bunch more movies. Oh, I didn't see that. Yeah, he. He signed a new contract, so he's not so actor. That's so bizarre like it's so bizarre. Forget the actor say stuff, but it's so bizarre that they're taking the DC you and like ripping up part of it, but not all of it asks. Batman and probably the flash because he beat up a woman in real life I heard about it. So yeah, but but like Batman Right Back LEX gone The joker really isn't part of the universe Who Man bad, so yeah. Oh you mean from suicide squad. Yeah so here's. Here's my take. I. WanNa know what how is doesn't even take more question. What happens when they released the Snyder cut, which is happening if you haven't heard yet boasted about in hysteria nation, they're releasing the Snyder cut next year on Hbo Max, and apparently it's like four hours long, and they're literally getting the actors to come back into some new. And some Green Lantern Action that at least some of the other characters, we could see dark side. Dark side that.

"All right you losers this week Brent and John Dive into the way back machine and release a special cafeteria fifty-one. This was their episode on Retro Snacks. They did for the original run of red or fed. I hope you hate it. It's following is hun production or two wind. Welcome in to another edition of rat or fad. Where everything's made up in the points don't matter I am your host John Goforth long with me my esteemed colleague Brent handprint sale load. Everybody a hello. Hello thank you John. Everyone out there in radio land. We welcome you back into episode number two where we will initially already be changing the format. It is still called ratified but this time around. We are not going to look at one particular movie. Tv show video game whatever it is and determine whether it was rather fat in fact we're going to look at a whole genre things and go one by one and say if each one of them are. Radyr fat and tonight's topic is Brent. It is eighties and nineties snacks and candy. We're not giving up on our original theme just tonight. There are so many candy so many foods that we wanted to touch on so our initial thought was fruit roll ups and then we thought about the idea of doing a forty five minute podcast about for roll ups and there's only so much you can talk about hydrogenated corn oil and pair puree smoke. We decided to expand just a little bit. Someone's been reading boxes. And I I'm a big proponent of calling the show ran or fat tonight because we have a fuck ton of candy to eat. That is probably disgusting. But I'M GONNA pretend it's delicious. We'll see and we will determine if it was deliberate and just back then or if it still is today but before we get to that. I want to. We're going to introduce a A A segment into this show outside of what we normally do. It's going to be called the retro Rewind House after bringing up our production value an echo to that one of the big things. It's not exactly came out this week. But it's been big as the upcoming in. Es Classic Edition Mini Console. Have you seen that? Yeah absolutely I was perplexed by a couple of the game choices. Actually I thought I thought it was a pretty good game lineup. Thirty thirty games the two things I saw not your thunder here but I read up on this one. They're doing Super C instead of regular contra. That's a big thing. Everyone's going why it just doesn't make any sense. I mean Contra is one of the classic of classics and the other one is from wrongdoing. Double Dragon to instead of the original Double Dragon. I'm okay with that but yes yeah okay now I I need to kill that guy at the end of the stage of stage one by throwing him down the pit the pit. Yeah couple things about that. That's kind of cool. So it is an emulator which into knows when using in there we and we you emily and their games when it does have hd my output it has pixel perfect rendering crt mode. So even if you're on your big eighty four inch crt mode and see what it used to look like. That's actually kind of cool. I guess black box in it exactly like you'll have on the sides and it'll be your four three early. That's the way I read it. I put about four and a half seconds in the researching this. Oh well then. I first week. We're doing a new segment. Let's wait to come out of the gate strong so that's been big in the news. Probably everyone's expecting me to be talking about Crystal Pepsi but we're skipping that we decided straight to crystal meth that what you know we're actually We're planning an upcoming just on on eighties nineties retro drinks things we remember from our childhood and I'm sure that'll that'll factor into it. I got two more things both of them this very way. I have one more question on the ASS so thirty games. We all know that anyone who wanted to play these games before this thing comes out already had an emulator whether it's just on the computer where they went ahead and did something they're gonna come to the TV or they bought one of those many weird controllers that you plug directly into your teeth. Ten Games on ten goes goodwill and they've got four of them even if those things were If they actually went after the IP rights released it on the surface to me. There seems like not much of a reason to buy this except for except for the algae of the look of. It were factor. It's tiny is there. Expandability is my question. I'm understanding no. Now I'm guarantee you someone will hack it and they'll be able to add in things like that from the get go now by someone. Do we mean Grignon. I don't believe in doing those things out Sacramento very much. All are retrofits having to do with games the next to her about steam and something that hits close to home for you and I day of the tentacle remastered is available on Steam. That EMON TODAY. I read sorry. There's just silence out of me because I was biting my fist screaming in absolute in sheer joy because the biggest day of the tentacle fan out. There they did the remastered version but they only released it on on. Pc and PS four which this steam team yeah. I'm an xbox one guy at least as of right now there is no xbox one version. I'm a PC guy. So I don't give a shit about you. I guess that's tough but fair. And then a sticking with that another emulator if you don't have scum at home and he'd been begging for all the Lucas Arts Games. They're being released on steam as well. Now the Kings series was already on there. But we're talking police quest collection. Gabriel Knight Sins of the Father Sends the father though I had an intel pentium one and I was awesome with my twenty eight eight modem. Was it fifty six six percent. I don't know and I just played the Shit. Out of Gabriel Knight. Since the real video in that a minute of the game the game box I remember was with some reminiscent to a maybe a video game console box. It was so large. Because there's so many damn CDs and remember when they're on discs disc for this but like floppiness three point five fourteen of nineteen. They they didn't know how to compress video. This is awesome at the kings quest. Games have been on there already. I was a big Sierra Fan. I love kings quest. Six one of my favorite games of all time hands down. I just love point and Click. I love it. Kids Day probably eight. It might give you said a kid down. Twelve years old said here play this game. I can't see the Meiqing it I do. We need to define kid because you might be alienating our audience. Well I'm saying like ten twelve year old now you know a ten twelve year old now for us. They were fantastic. That was cutting edge. I it was amazing. It was akin to like you know playing RPG. But you're using your brain. Everything's a riddle. Everything's a puzzle. You'RE FIXING AMOUNT. Like just a blast. No yeah I mean I was really into those like I said day. The Tentacle Love Salmon. Max full-throttle Leisure Suit Larry. Well Holding Nice Man. Some of the earlier pointing clicks on. Es I was a huge fan a uninvited deja Vu didn't really play the other one. I'm reading the name of everything. S Shadow Gate. The does probably my favorite my dad even got into When when I had that I was talking about Hughes really missed I never got into it. But then you're putting on one of our member literally literally stood like three and a half feet tall was at the one. It's the same one that the football coaches could've used in practice Phil linebacker run. They wouldn't have been able to if your parents were Were out and we were supposed to be hanging your house not allowed to leave. We would just take the phone off the hook. Go do whatever the hell we wanted and your parents later. We call me like were you guys. Doing we couldn't get through. We were we were we were just on. Aol Hugh my bad still the AOL address. And I use it. So that's our little this week. Pretty much gaming. Centric retro rewind rewind overcome that the production value of this. Podcast will go up eventually. If anyone listening at home is embarrassed for us and decides they want to come up with a little jingle for Retro Rewind. Make sure you feel free to send it to me will accept it. We'll use it. Yeah you know. If you're good at any of this stuff let us know our. Let's get into the topic of the night. Wait wait I'm GonNa stop you right there. We're doing a disservice to our audience. We've got to say what we're drinking tonight our right while I'm starting out. I'm the lame one. I'm still drinking bud. Light John what you got in front of you there. I have a bullet Ri- Oh a Rye whiskey. I didn't know we were so sophisticated and about to give me another but lies. It's like it's like Dave Matthews said Whiskey Rye whiskey actually wondering Originally so.

"Got it. He's not up K. I was trying to come up with the last time. Brent took a shot joke but it just didn't fully forum in time and so then I fell apart even further because then I didn't say something else. Okay so I don't know I don't know what to do in this new brave new world. I got an important question for you though. What's that is your brand the armor than the go-to brand for Vienna's passages or one of those weird off. Brand Vienna sausages. No I went. I went classic armor. I knew that that is the hot dog. Armor hotdogs remember those commercials from back in the day. Well this isn't exactly how these are like you know how like hotdogs are toaster. Lebron's Lipson assholes. This is what falls under the grinder hotdog. Stay kind of thing. So it's it's It Certainly smells like that. So before we get into what we're about to try to give the kids at home a little bit on the Vienna sausage. This is from wikipedia so we did a lottery search here. Vienna sausage Otherwise known in German as a Venus version is a thin parboiled sausage traditionally made pork and beef and a casing of ship sheep's intestine Then given a low temperature smoking. The work meaner instrument for Vietnamese in Austria. So this is a sausage sausage that anyone gets an encased meat Boy So here. In North America after having been brought to you North America by European immigrants the Vienna sausage came to mean only smaller and much shorter smoked and canned wieners. Rather than link sausage beginning about nineteen three however they have no federal standards of identity Yes they do the armor. I think that's I think we need to update this PD. Pitch a North American sausages are made similarly to pork wieners. Finally ground to a paste. Consistency makes with Salt and spices such close coriander nutmeg onion powder and finely ground dry red pepper. I smells like so much more chemicals than it does all of that. It depends on what you get. Because there's the original which is my go-to but there is smoked. There's chicken there is barbecue flavored They're spicy and actually the spicy is really good. If you can find him they're harder to find but You do have some some choices out there now. There are people that like the goalies brand that liberties brand. But I'm a I'm an armor fan myself like pictures of Anna sausages from across the world and across the world. They look delicious. They look like You know traditional sausages. You might buy it. A butcher knife boomer like their little longer and harder like a yeah like a role And then there's a picture from North America and it's it's a big old cannock these some places. If they're they're they're dried they call him. Hunter sticks. Actually I've seen hunter sticks so you know the have you also seen the giant can and that they make that is like the INS. It's just the chopped up pieces because if it's too much work for you to chop it up to put into whatever you're making which they are good and Macaroni Lisa. Stop making those. She's not even speaking. She just has. This disgust didn't know how discussing to get more disgusting. They have armor Vienna Sausage Bourbon Barbecue flavored sauce. Like that sounds like vomit. Yeah Yeah I'm with Leeson his when So so Brandt I I don't WanNa just rain on your parade I WANNA. I WANNA be a good partner here so I went above and beyond I prepared my th- my Vienna sausages few different ways I went low class on what high class and I went normal because I want to give it every opportunity to enter into my world. I will not be judgmental I'm not going to cast aspersions. I'm just going to. So here's what I did. I I've got a regular sausage either. Can and then for the alternative to that. I just have one toasted in a pan. So they're just a regular sausage toast them ever myself so I'm very bland. As far as it goes and the other thing that I will say is when you open these up there in leakey jellied sauce and I do not like that at all so I have. My can isn't even open. I just had up here ready to go okay. What I would be doing if it's downstairs. Where you normally doing is I washed them off in the sink. I rent them out and drain them and then eat them that way. However the other day the Canyon opened was kind of dry. And you're upset that the jelly wasn't there no not well. I was upset like should I not eat this because it looked weird. It didn't have the disgusting Jelly. I'm going to bet on whether you did it in So I ate part of them though they went to the dog who just loved them seasons under me. Gordie sits underneath because he knows. I'm probably going to drop something at some point in time. And so we we've been looking at the armor site Roku Cobra talking. Cotton Spicy is okay. But that's not my favorite. I'm sorry it's the Jalapeno is the one that I liked the best. Wow okay all right I. I didn't realize there are so many varied choices with your armor. Armor just lives in sodium. I looked at the sodium. Count on these things. It's like six hundred thirty and the they considered one tiny hand to serving. So it's close to your days worth of sodium in this little cannon which because Leeson I went and got our full checkups recently in my sodium. Everything levels were great. They're like you're in fantastic health. I'm like well thank you. Well I might be true but it has nothing to do with that. Your sodium level actually has is no reflection of how much sodium you consume and review back. The reason I know that is because I did a little dance last time. I had my checkup because unlike Soya sauce isn't hurting me. He's like dude has nothing to do with it. Like I cut back on Sodium IF YOU SODIUM LEVELS HIGH. I don't I don't know they actor on TV I don't know Console to What's that guy's name that's always on CNN now spacing that they have a doctor? This poor guy My wife watches a lot of CNN. He's he's on twenty four hours a day seven days a week around with a friend of milk. Say He's the Ronin. He's the guy the go-to Guy He. He hosts a he hosts a podcast about about corona virus. John I feel like we're doing a disservice real quick before we get to your Tade in raw style. The heard me open the can yet. Okay go ahead. Are we ready lease? That's his name. Go ahead which is interesting. Gupta is how I would describe the Jelly that is on these sir. All right here we go. I don't know if they're gonNA be able to hear it but.
