"To grow. Good morning, I'm Ann Kramer. And I'm John Aaron, teddy gellman is our producer. Former president Donald Trump went on the attack from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida last night, declaring that felony charges made against him were erroneous, politically motivated and an insult to our country. The former president responded to the indictment by calling it ridiculous in the DA who brought it a criminal leaker. Donald Trump was just as harsh when he described the man who will preside over the case. I have a Trump hating judge with a Trump hating wife and family. Hours earlier in his courtroom, judge Juan Marshawn asked Trump to refrain from making comments that might incite violence, create unrest, or jeopardize the safety of individuals. Stephen portnoy, CBS News. The former president pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges of filing false business records related to an alleged scheme to bury allegations about extramarital affairs ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Meanwhile, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg defended his decision to prosecute the former president. Why? Did Donald Trump repeatedly make these false statements? The evidence will show that he did so to cover up crimes relating to the 2016 election. That is a scheme to buy and suppress negative information to help mister Trump's chance of winning the election. Former president Trump is the first former American president ever to be charged with a crime. And reaction coming in from members of Congress this morning more from WTO's Mitchell Miller today on the hill. In this case, there is no crime. It is a very weak case. New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik, the House Republican conference chair and strong supporter of the former president, speaking with reporters. House Republicans have continued to hammer New York district attorney Alvin Bragg for charging mister Trump, arguing that it shows there's a two tier legal system, one for Republicans and one for Democrats. But Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer says he believes mister Trump will have a fair trial, and Virginia democratic congresswoman Abigail spanberger says every American, including a former president, should be equal in the eyes of the law. On Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller WTO. House speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to meet with Taiwan's president today in a planned move that is angered China. President Tsai ing Wen is expected to meet with McCarthy and Los Angeles as she makes her way back home from a tour of Taiwan's only remaining diplomatic allies in Latin America. Belize and Guatemala. China views Taiwan as its own territory and treats any dealings between U.S. and Taiwanese leaders as a challenge to its sovereignty. We've learned this morning the D.C. mayor muriel Bowser has been invited to testify before the House oversight committee as it continues to hold hearings on crime in the nation's capital. The invitation is for May the 16th, though Bowser says she's still deciding whether or not she will attend. D.C. council chairman, Phil mendelson and council member Charles Allen, both appeared before the committee last week for a hearing on the city's crime and policing. Republicans on the committee argue that crime has become a crisis and that the council is soft on crime. A man in Maryland has been arrested accused of phoning in a threat to an LGBTQ advocacy group. While federal criminal complaint accuses 34 year old Adam natina of Howard county with leaving a threatening voicemail on the phone of the D.C. based Human Rights Campaign, investigators say the threat was sent a day after police gave unclear information about the gender of the shooter who killed 6 at a private Christian school in Nashville. The voicemail referred to the shooting and threatened violence. Natina faces a detention hearing Friday and the charges carry a possible 5 year prison sentence. Particularly on WTO P news. "This is WTO news. It's 5 45. I'm John Aaron. And I'm Ann Kramer. Former president Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges yesterday. Prosecutors say he conspired to undermine the 2016 presidential election by trying to suppress information that could harm his candidacy. WCBS reporter Steve Burns joined WTO earlier with more. This is a really extraordinary case because those false flight business documents were in service of something much larger and that is deception around the 2016 election. He said election law in New York was violated. This $130,000 payment that was made to stormy Daniels exceeded political contribution caps and so that makes this case rise to the level of a felony. Now speaking from our Lago last night, Trump went after a Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg, calling him a criminal and claiming the judge overseeing the case, hates him. A Maryland man is in jail after allegedly phoning in a threat to a major advocacy group for LGBTQ rights, while federal criminal complaint accuses 34 year old Adam natina of Howard county with leaving a threatening voicemail on the phone of the D.C. based Human Rights Campaign. Investigators say the threat was sent a day after police gave unclear information about the gender of the shooter who killed 6 at a private Christian school in Nashville. The voicemail referred to the shooting and threatened violence. Natina faces a detention hearing Friday and the charges carry a possible 5 year prison sentence. "We'll just forage you there. But yeah, I mean, Amazon won't sell my audiobook. Let's be fair. Is it that Amazon won't sell it or that you won't allow them to sell it? Well, I went to Amazon and said, you can sell my audiobooks, just don't put DRM on them. As you promised you wouldn't when you bought audible because they said they were getting rid of the DRM. Audible's always had DRM. It's not hard to strip it off. But they've always had DRM. And I was just assumed it was the publishers that insisted on it. There are audiobooks. That's right. Well, all of them except for audible and Apple books, which is a front end for audible, allow you to choose whether there's DRM. The thing about this DRM, and this kind of resolves the mystery under the digital millennium copyright act section 1201, it is more illegal for you to remove DRM from an audiobook that I made with my blessing than it is for you to pirate that audiobook. If I give you the tool to remove DRM from my audiobook that I made and paid for, I commit a felony punishable by a 5 year prison sentence in a $500,000 line for a first offense. The maximum penalty civil and criminal for making an infringing copy of that book is only $400,000. Wow. And so, you know, it is obvious when you put it that way, why Amazon would want to make sure that they have DRM and all the books because it means that if someone offers me more money for my audiobooks to take my books off audible and sell them somewhere else, I have to bet that my audience is willing to throw away all the audiobooks they've ever bought to follow me to a rival platform because I can't authorize them to remove the DRM and Amazon's not going to send me a list of all my customers so I can send them free download codes for another platform. So I'm just stuck, right? So I've always had this position that I'm just not going to be bait in a sticky trap. And here we are, you know, more than a decade after Amazon purchased audible. It's now 90% of the audiobook market. And they are engaged in rampant wage theft, the audible gate scandal, accounted for at least a $100 million in wage theft from independent audiobook creators. And still not giving creators the choice about whether they want to lock their listeners to Amazon's platform, not just for the term of copyright, which is 90 years on these commercial works, but forever. TRM, I should just explain his copy protection, digital rights management for people who don't want to fire up Wikipedia and look it up. Yeah. It's an encryption scheme. It doesn't work very well because the way that it's easy to strip off. Yeah, I scramble the book, and then I give you the book with a player that has the key to unscrambled it. And then I bet that you're never going to figure out where in that player I had the key. The technical term for this insecurity research is wishful thinking. So it's not like a thing that stops people from pirating audiobooks. You don't need to strip DRM off to pirate audiobooks. You just type, you know, book name, space, MP3 free download pirate into your favorite search engine, you can just get it, right? The only thing this does is prevent actual proprietors, creators, and publishers from creating legitimate legal businesses that present alternatives to Amazon and would discipline Amazon and its dealings with creators. And with audiences, because Amazon is now sticking ads in the audiobooks you pay for. Which again is just, and if they can control what player you listen to, they can stop you from skipping ads. You just explained, by the way, why the record industry is going after ISPs now. And even worse, when after quad 9, a DNS resolver, they can't stop the piracy, so what they want to do is stop you from finding the pirate sites. They actually won their case. I was shocked. They won their case against quad 9. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I think that the lesson of the streaming services has been that if you give people a reasonable offer at a reasonable price, they'll choose it. I think the other lesson in the streaming services is that no one ever bought a book or a record because they wanted an entertainment executive to make more money. And so if we show people that there is an equitable arrangement, people will opt into it. And the people who won't were never going to opt into it. I don't compete with piracy. I compete with all the things you could do that aren't listening to an audiobook, playing games, going for a walk in the park, zooming, looking at websites with names that we can't mention because it's a family friendly show. All of those things are my competitors and the piracy is like on the list of things that cause people not to listen to my books. You know, piracy is way, way down there in terms of what I compete with. And yet, publishers are working hard. Well, now to put libraries out of existence. We talked last week. Yeah, we talked last week about Internet Archive, which lost its case this week in a lower court ruling for what it calls, what is it cloud library distributed? It's controlled digital controlled digital lending. CDL. CDL. So let me make sure I understand what was happening. So the Internet Archive, which is the wayback machine, it's archive dot org. It's really the library of the Internet. And a really valuable resource for everybody. In fact, they actually bought and housed themselves in an old library building in San Francisco near Golden Gate park. This is beautiful. So they a church actually. It's a church, but it's got columns. It looks like, I don't know, I imagine the library of Alexandria must have looked like beautiful, beautiful. I guess it's a church, yeah, that makes sense. But they were taking books. Often donated by libraries, old books at the library was going to replace and. Digitizing them, making ebooks out of the paper books. And then lending them out and lending them out just as a library does where it's like they have one copy and you can't two people can't check out the same copy. So that's how libraries do it as well. But the publishers have sued, was it now, are they suing over that or was it the fact that they relaxed restrictions in COVID? No, that's what they're suing over. It's not about the relaxed restrictions. I have to be really careful here because I work with electronic frontier foundation and we are counsel for the archive. I want to be really clear that anything I say about this case is me speaking personally and not speaking on behalf of EFF. I'm a contractor to them not an employee, but I'm still part of the organization. So I mean, it's a very nuanced question about copyright law, but for me there's this very bottom line idea, which is that libraries are really old. Libraries are not just older than copyright or publishing their older than books and paper, right? Libraries have been around since we had scrolls of papyrus. And they're older than commerce as we understand it. And the idea that we have made a technological change, not more profound than the technological changes we made when we went from papyrus to paper or scrolls to codexes,

"During his now infamous trial, January 6th defendant, Jacob chansley, AKA the Q shaman, faced some very hefty sentences. These included a 5 year prison sentence and a fine of up to $250,000. In law, such fines are levied as a form of restitution in order to compensate for costs such as damaged property, medical bills, resulting from personal injury, or even to pay an opponent's legal fees. The concept of reparations is that it is a form of punishment that can also help to repair the damage that was done by the accused. It's important to note, the government can not find you with reparations out of the blue. You have to be guilty of a crime. It's good the Chancellor wasn't ultimately hit with the full amount as a quarter of a million dollars for most people can't be raised easily. People work their entire lives and still can't save that much money. It's such a large amount that even someone as gullible as judge Lambert, a man who genuinely believed the Q shaman was somehow the breath from destroying America's democracy forever. Thought the penalty was overkill. Lately, there's been another shaman in the news, only this shaman has two ends, shaman Walton is a member of the San Francisco board of supervisors. The plan was a way to go before final approval, like every other member of the board, shaman Walton wants to see it through. He says, quote, we have to stay focused and stay together as a community, he says. Because now it is a 100% more prevalent that we can not be separated or divided. Let's stay the course. Because a $5 million payday for me is almost here. It might be pertinent to point out that shaman Walton himself is black. And something also tells me he will be included among those deemed eligible for the payout.

"Bonds led the losses across the entire market. Yesterday, investors are reconsidering some of the optimism around the aid from the IMF and gulf countries. Has this story she's in Doha. So Simone, it was a pretty tough day in terms of Egyptian risk. How do investors think it will evolve from here? Yeah, we had this one day of negativity, but what we've seen in the market recently is risk rising around Egypt. And if you check out our chart here, GTV go for clients. You'll see 5 year CDS for Egypt. We've trended higher this year, but it's important to understand the medium term context. Yes, we're flirting with a thousand basis points. That's roughly a level of distress in the CDS markets. But when you look back to October, November, you'll see that the risk premium was much higher. Remember, that was before Egypt clinched a crucial IMF loan package for about $3 billion. Now, we have had reporting recently, including by our own Sylvia west doll and maret magdi, talking about how there are a lot of concerns that Egypt is actually going to receive, not only the IMF loan and all that money coming through, but some of the gulf investment that's been pledged some $10 billion plus from the likes of Saudi Arabia and the Qatar. There are concerns that the government may not follow through on all of its promises that it made with that IMF deal. And then also, where does the devaluation of the Egyptian pound end? How do we put a value on assets that seem to be declining? That said, we saw that prominent saku offering last week, $1.5 billion. It was a lot of demand there. So it suggests I think that there is a price at which investors, particularly EM bond investors, still want to be invested in Egypt debt. Yeah, I mean, they're going to have to fix the local currency snags. That's for sure if there's any if there's going to be anywhere to return to stability. I want to get to turkey where sources tell us that authorities are cracking down on landlords, hiking rents at Madison one for you actually, isn't it? I paid up on the large. I got to be fair now. We can't reveal what percentage I paid up and looked large on, but I will later on today. We'll make a video. Put it in context of all. Well, I can't talk about your rental increases, but there is a local organization in turkey that says some landlords have hiked rents by about 45% in the wake of the earthquakes. And so authorities are considering two to 5 year prison sentences for landlords that impose what they call excessive returns. Now, exactly what level is excessive. I know madness, you're concerned about your rent rising, but here are the numbers to see them a little bit bigger. We don't know exactly yet what the successive is. There has already been, however, a housing crisis in turkey. We saw rents rising a 177% in a single year, and that was before the earthquakes came in. They displaced according to president Erdoğan, some 2.2 million people as of last week, all of this is going to be an enormous challenge for president Erdoğan as he looks ahead to elections already being extremely criticized for some of the government's initial response to the earthquakes. So thanks for that. That's the fox by the kind of financial center in Doha, I want to get you a red headline. This one from the online food ordering company just eats also anonymous takeaway dot com. Basically they're full year revenue comes in at €5.56 billion. The S 12 was a €5.6 billion, but the shocker is on the net loss, which is at €5.67 billion versus an estimated loss of €3.65 billion minus. Yeah, 36% of their business actually, on the growth revenue basis is in North America. And about 28% is in the UK, 23% is in Europe. And if you look at those inflation numbers in Europe yesterday and there was a further piece of information in there, 55% of the French have stopped using the car. They're using the cars that's 51% by less clothes and 50% go out less and the youth younger guys and girls are buying less breakfast. So this all permeates through to what you will spend online and having food delivered in Europe as well. A 100%, we will continue to monitor the investor reaction of course throughout the morning. I want to get to the Middle East markets, not with our equities reporter file. I mean, let's just briefly step back from the equity market. And talk about venture capital because we've had a new tech fund come out of the region. Now what are some of the details? Yes. So if we have and can capital launching a $31 billion fund focusing on technology investments with through the lens of sectors such as healthcare, artificial intelligence as well as logistics, they're the interesting thing here is who are backing this fund. A third of the investments are coming from Silicon Valley investors, but one of the key ones is actually the public investment fund the sovereign wealth fund's Jada funds the fund subsidiary subsidiary, which focuses on venture capital. So it's a smaller fund, but certainly a sign of sovereign wealth funds wanting to engage more with the venture capital space and how that will breed more unicorns, you know, career was one of the biggest success stories we've had in the region and whether we're going to see more of that as big names such as the public investment fund backs venture capital investments and kind of capital owns or actually it has invested in companies such as hub pay, which is our mittens company as well as logistics firm truck in. No, I mentioned just a little bit earlier with Goldman Sachs and obviously there's been a bit of a switch out of banking around the bank and into cyclicals, et cetera. But on sabic, they've yet to see the fruit of the PMIs that we've seen this morning to be fair, those PMIs are as a result of the unlocking of the economy now. So sabic underwhelming in terms of the numbers, how do the market take it? The market did not take it very positively managed. The stock was down 3.7% by the close yesterday. That's the biggest drop since November 2021. Sabak is not yet benefiting from that rally in cyclicals that we've seen in global markets. The company actually missed profit estimates and the outlook for margins was quite weak, saying that the Chinese market has not yet recovered and demand remains weak globally due to the downturn in the global economy. SMB capital said that the first half is going to be probably very negative for sabic due to a low prices as well as those weak margins and low demand. They finally city came out with a bullish outlook on Emirates NBD. So they say that Emirates and BD is their most value, most attractive valued stock or banking stock in their Middle East and North Africa coverage. The bank has certainly underperformed, but the IB remains cities topic in Dubai, but going back to Emirates and BD, they think that there's further scope for re rating and they actually increase their profit estimates by 17% due to higher revenues and lower provisioning. But the key thing for Emirates and BV will continue to be what does its exposure to turkey mean for the lender? That still creates some risk for investors when they think of buying shares of this bank. Okay, fine, thank you very much. With the big bullish call on amorous MVD, keeping Shane now to the CEO happy. He's been around for what. 12 years or something? Yeah. Some people last forever

"Well, the summary report from the grand jury down in Georgia just came out and fascinating stuff all we know so far. I mean, the report is available, but they didn't name names. They didn't go into a lot of details. And that's a good thing because that means that the prosecutor still has that information and can use it to prosecute people. If you expose it to the public, you screw up the possibility of future prosecutions. But one of the two points that they made, the two big points that they made were number one that there was no evidence in Georgia that the election was tampered with or any hanky panky going on of any consequence whatsoever. And number two, that multiple people, at least one, and in their opinion, probably multiple people of the 75 witnesses who were called before the grand jury who were subpoenaed who had to testify under oath, lied to that grand jury. That's perjury perjury is typically a 5 year prison sentence. I don't know specifically in Georgia what it is, but it's probably in that neighborhood. So, you know, we'll see where this goes, but what this really tells us is that the grand jury is going along with Bonnie Willis the district attorney in wanting to preserve the integrity of her case. So that's the breaking news top of the morning to you or afternoon wherever you may be. We've got a lot to talk about today. I want to get into what the Supreme Court did to America when they legalized political bribery. Also how a new Mississippi piece of legislation would carve out a separate judicial district for the white people who live in a majority black city. Brett taking story. And Israeli contractors claim to have hacked and sabotaged more than 30 elections around the world. We don't have the specifics on that, but I bet 2016 is in there. On behalf of Trump, it's just a bet. It's just a guess. In the top of our second hour, we're going to connect the Internet gods willing with Phil itner, the veteran war correspondent, who is live from Ukraine. We'll get an update on what's going on in Ukraine. In our good news in the second hour, the Biden administration is requiring these car chargers, the inflation reduction act is building car charging stations all over the country. Or subsidizing them. Tax credits and subsidies. They're requiring in order to have access to those tax credits to subsidies that those car chargers be built right here in the United States and at least 55% of the components come from the United States by next year. So once again, Joe Biden doing what Donald Trump campaigned on, lied about never got around to, which is bringing our manufacturing back to the United States. Donald Trump, of course, didn't want to piss off China because he was busy getting millions and millions of dollars worth of patents for his daughter over there. Also, new Kentucky law in the second hour says that abortion is murdered. Does that mean that some women will soon die by lethal injection for having traveled out of Kentucky to get an abortion? Could be. I'll tell you about that. Matt Simon is going to drop by at the top of our third hour about the Ohio train derailment and the risks of plastic pollution is the world drowning in play. What's the deal with microplastics too? Also Ron DeSantis is adopting a Donald Trump tactic in the Miami Herald is calling him out on it to manipulate the public's attention away from the fact that basically he's a lousy governor and he's not doing a decent job for his own people. And finally, in the third hour of our program, we'll get into this new report on Christian, extremist group, a worldwide, they have factions here in the United States that just in Australia just. Enticed a couple of police officers to show up and then attack them. They kill them, in fact, kill two of them, wounded a third one, and shot their neighbor. Who came over to see what was going on. These are people who think that the end times are upon us. They've been listening to these crazy pastors way too much. But I want to start out with my daily take here over at harbin report dot com. It's titled what the Supreme Court did to America when they legalized political bribery. And what got me thinking about this was over the weekend, I flew to Michigan to visit my niece, who was in the hospital, and she passed away on Sunday. Which is kind of tough. And hang out with my brother and his family, to what our extent I could be any comfortable, one of my kids went along with me. And sitting in the plane, I noticed, and being a pilot, I had been a violinist in 72. I noticed these things. The cockpit door was completely hardened. It was covered with stainless steel. It had a little keypad next to it to get into it. There's no way you could kick in that door. And it used to be, you could easily kick in airline doors, airplane doors. And in fact, it used to be so easy to kick in airplane doors. That, you know, we had hundreds and hundreds of hijackings. This is before 9 11. In 1968, December of 1968 is the holiday travel season

"Families who lost a piece of their soul, I have some idea how hard it is today. For us all back, everybody back, just like you heard the news a moment ago. But what I admire most about all of you is how you found purpose through your pain. You've helped me take more executive actions to reduce gun violence than any of my predecessors at this point in the presidencies. We've reigned in ghost guns, crackdown on contra game. Increased resources for violence prevention. And we stood together as I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years. But there's so much more to do. We have to ban assault weapons, like the one used in Parkland. You just 5 years ago today. And in so many of the mass shootings in America, the lives lost, the lives we can save as a nation. We must say enough. I would like to point out here that as always, this is completely disconnected from reality. The MSU shooter used a handgun. So banning assault weapons would have achieved precisely zero things. A mass shooter shoots people in handgun and Joe Biden's solution is what if we ban an AR-15. We ban a long gun. Genius level stuff again from our genius president. As the Washington examiner also points out, this person was already breaking the law and it turns out that a local DA let this person off the hook for what would have been a felony gun charge a couple of years ago. Quote, once again, it was a preventable shooting. It could not have been prevented by passing more gun control laws. It could have been preventative local prosecutors had existed had enforced existing gun laws. The shooter was arrested in 2019 and charged with carrying a concealed pistol without a concealed carry permit. This is a felony. It carries a potential 5 year prison sentence and would have prevented the shooter from being permitted to own a firearm once his sentence was up. Instead, he pled down to possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, which is a misdemeanor. And then prosecutors dismissed the felony charge and he served 18 months probation and remained eligible to purchase an owned guns. So again, well done, soft on crime prosecutors letting people off the hook and then the person goes on to commit a crime and Joe Biden's solution is banned along guns. This administration is such a disaster area. And the disaster area permeates every area of the administration. I mean, I was just going through almost agency by agency yesterday. The failures of this administration. So you have the defense apparatus, which you can't even tell us what the hell they are shooting down over American skies after apparently watching the Chinese balloon float across the entirety of the United States. From inception in China. You have the economic apparatus inside the Biden administration, which is generating you're on your inflation rates of triple the norm. And is lowering real wages by significant margins while spending more money than God has ever seen. You have Rochelle Walensky at the CDC, who is still proclaiming that we have to mask up the kids. She did that yesterday. That's excellent. So you actually have to wear the mask for it to work. Okay. So there are lots of studies now in Georgia. Why are we masking our kids today? Thank you. Also, so our guidance for school based masking is related to our COVID-19 community levels. And fortunately, we're in a place now in this country where most of our country is in green or yellow. It has lower low or moderate transmission or COVID-19 community levels. And in those situations, we actually don't recommend masking. We recommend it for high COVID-19 community. So what is your timeline for updating reevaluating these guidance? You know, our masking guidance doesn't really change with time what it changes with is disease. Okay, so in other words, they continue to maintain that kids should mask up to prevent COVID-19 and as you will recall, the CDC this week tried to declare that the COVID vaccine should be given to small children as part of the recommended vax list for kids, like measles mumps, rubella, which is absurd. Meanwhile, the Health and Human Services department, they actually have a website that features a video training kids on mask wearing. This is so ridiculous. It's so ridiculous. I know masks

"Because when you lobby on behalf of other countries in the United States, you have to register with the Department of Justice and say that, hey, I'm a foreign agent. Many people do what many attorneys do do this because they work. They have clients that foreign governments as clients. But Rudy Giuliani never registered. And if he didn't register and lobby Donald Trump on behalf of any of these countries, that's up to 5 year prison term. You know, so let me ask you in your opinion which Trump goes or which part of the Trump world goes down first. Oh, that's a good question. The Trump organization as a whole. I think that is where the first big bomb is going to drop whether they're found guilty and court in the charges that have already been filed against the organization or whether they're forced to disband or potentially even go bankrupt through letitia James investigation. That's where I think the first big hammer is going to drop. And it might be actually the only hammer that ever drops. But I think it's going to be big enough where Trump world is not going to be able to recover from it. God, I hope you're right. But I just hope, you know, because I need to get junior and Fredo, you know, they keep going on these channels and Donnie the kid has his dumb Coke into rants on rumble or whatever. And it's like they act as if they're all not worried, but they have to be worried now. You would think so. I would be worried if I were them.
