"Get to Plumbing the Beacon Sports Desk. Here's Eric Heintz. A big series for the Mariners begins tonight in Arlington, Texas against the Rangers. The M's are tied with the Rangers for the third and final American League wildcard spot and both trail AL West leader Houston by a half game. Bryce Miller takes the mound for the M's in the series opener opposite him as fellow right -hander Dane Dunning. The Seahawks go for their second win in a row and they take on the winless Carolina Panthers at Lumen Field Sunday. on Like he did last season, quarterback Geno Smith is completing more than 70 % of his passes with 440 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. But he knows that Carolina's defense has a solid front seven that are among the leaders in sacks. Their defense is really, you know, led by that front seven and you see an aggressive bunch of guys who play together, they play inspired and as always, man, it's going to be another tough course and those guys do a great job. Andy Dalton will start for Carolina at quarterback this weekend as Bryce Young is out with with an ankle injury. The 49ers pulled away in the second half to beat the Giants 30 to 12 last night. Caffrey accounted for 119 all -purpose yards and a touchdown while Deebo Samuel caught six passes for 129 yards and a score. The 49ers are now 3 -0. The Washington Huskies host Cal tomorrow night while the Washington State Cougars face Oregon State in Pullman. Sports at 10 and 40 past the hour, Eric Heintz, Northwest News Radio. All right. Oh, we got the... Go ahead. No, he's actually like swearing on ESPN now, and he's got like Mike Greenberg, he swore on ESPN now because of McAfee. He's actually... A little more laid back now, huh? Yeah, he wears a tank top. He's very good for ESPN, in my opinion. Go ahead. He's spicing up Disney, huh? I think I saw, didn't they have to put him on like an extra delay versus normal? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised. He has to cut out the F words a little bit, I heard. Someone's got to tell him to stop the cursing. No. Why? That's what makes it fun. I'm like eight song titles through my album here, so. Oh, he's like, damn, you're doing song titles already? Yeah, I thought you had to say him first. Holy moly. All right, well, we're about to find out what your song titles were. So Tony messed up two weeks ago. He didn't get all the song titles in, so now he has an album to himself, but because this is a team sport, a team podcast, Rob and I now have to split apart, or a album between ourselves. So Rob and I have Good Charlotte, The Young and the Hopeless. I'm not feeling good about this week. This is a lot. Seven songs and a half hour show. I still need to get in Too Much, Saturday Night Divas, Do It, and The Lady is a Vamp, which will probably be a difficult one. Hold on, can you say that one more time? What was that? I remember watching the Spice World movie, the Spice Girls movie. I do not remember. Oh, you guys didn't have older sisters, that's why. No. All right, anyway. Movin' On. All right, speaking of Movin' On, the NFL schedule moved on. We are now in week two, so let's get to Football Talk. And I guess technically we're in week three, so we're going to recap week two. As always, we're going to start with the Bills game, go to the Titans game, and then kind of what else is going on. So, Rob, you were at the Bills Raiders game. What were your biggest takeaways? It was a fun home opener. The Bills got back to their winning ways with a nice, easy, I'd even want to say I was worried at the beginning. It was a little annoying that they fell behind 7 -0, but I was confident they would still pull it out. They did. Josh Allen ended up AFC Offensive Player of the Week, I think the 11th time in his career now, which is pretty impressive. Wow, the franchise record. Oh, I didn't know that. Nice stat. You beat Jim Kelly, it was 10 times. Well, pretty nice. Feels like a new beginning for the Bills, for sure. Nice, Ryan. Where was I going with that? I told you guys a stat yesterday, actually, that surprised me, but Josh Allen is number one in completion percentage so far this year. I know it's only two games in, but fun little tidbit there. It's crazy how much can change week by week in the NFL, and it's going to happen again this week. If the Bills were to lose to Washington and go 1 -2, then it almost feels like the game, I know it wouldn't be a must -win, but it feels like the game against the Dolphins the following week would feel like a must -win. That way, they're not 1 -3 and that far behind the Dolphins, but yeah, it's crazy how much can change in one week in the NFL. Oh, show. My biggest takeaway, and I said it last week, kind of a similar takeaway for me was last year it felt like we never got pressure on the quarterback. This year, it feels like we're constantly getting the opposing quarterback pressure, and it feels like our offensive line is playing well, so big task, which is we're physical, we can run the ball, we can block, we can get pressure. It's a good change of pace. I don't know, honestly, I'm not smart enough to tell you if McDermott's play calling is a factor in that, or if it's just Leonard Floyd, hopefully his ankle's okay, is better, and Ed Oliver's having a better year, so on and so forth. Yes, I saw his average depth of tackle is negative yards right now, which is impressive. So his average tackle is a tackle for a loss. That's awesome. That's literally the definition of blowing up a play. So yeah, it's exciting. Obviously, this win means something, but it doesn't really if you go and lose to Washington, so got to two and one. Two and one, by the way. Oh, yeah. I think everyone does the thing where you kind of... Did we just lose our host? It kind of looks like a frozen face there. Okay. Hey, frozen face. Oh, Rob, it's you and I. Let's do this thing. All right. So I didn't get to talk about the Titans at all. Can we say anything now, because he's gone? Yeah, we can say anything. Say anything, say anything. Sorry, I can't sneak any of these. Good Charlotte. Anywho, girls and boys, my takeaway is that the Titans are who I thought they were. The team that... I guess who a lot of Titans fans thought they were. The team that's probably... You are who we thought you were. Welcome back, Anthony. Thanks. They're the team that's going to beat the good teams and lose to the teams they should beat. And that's how it feels like the Titans have always been. They keep every game close. They have a shot. They have a chance in every game. So they're not quite the young and the hopeless, but they're just maybe like the mediocre. No, they're not the young and the hopeless. Oh, I thought that was one of my song titles. That's the... Oh, no. Oh, no. Clearly. Well, okay. I guess I can cross that one off my list then. Anywho, you know who else I was impressed with was the Falcons. They play a certain brand of football. It's the NFC Titans. I think I have to be a fan of the Falcons now. But just ground and pound, they came back. They were able to pull that one out in Green Bay. So... Yeah. The Falcons. To your point, there's not many teams, I feel like, in the NFL that have an identity, like a true identity. The Falcons are one that you know exactly what you're getting every week. And that could be really good or it could be really bad. Oh, for sure. One of my week two takeaways is prior to the season, it was always... And I was the one on this podcast kind of leading the charge is how good the AFC is gonna be. And then if like through two weeks, which is, again, a small sample size, it feels like the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys are playing just as well as anybody. And they're all in the NFC. Now, the NFC doesn't have much else to offer, but those three teams are gonna be very formidable to whoever comes out of the AFC come Super Bowl time. Yeah. At this point, their high -end talent almost seems better than the AFC with a lot of the top teams in the AFC struggling. So... Do you guys think that three of the top five teams in the NFL are NFC teams? Maybe even three of the top four teams in the NFL? I think that's fair right now. Yeah. That's crazy, isn't it? Because before the season, it was like, the AFC is so strong, so good. They have all the good quarterbacks and two weeks is a pretty small sample size, but I think... I think at this point, yeah, it's safe to say those three teams are top five. I don't even know who you would put... I mean, I guess the Dolphins are probably the best team in the AFC at the moment. I mean, the Chiefs scored 17 points against the Jaguars. And I mean, the Bills looked very good last week, but you can't ignore how poorly they looked the first week on offense. So... And then obviously, the Bengals Chargers being 0 -2 hurts the AFC's, I guess, power rankings or however you want to look at it. And then Rogers being hurt. Those are three teams that I thought were going to have a very good season. They still might. Maybe not the Jets, but the Chargers and the Bengals.

"Welcome to the Ultra Flex Football Podcast where we have fun with our friends while we talk about football and any anything else we wanna talk about. We're here for season two. I don't know if we're officially calling it season two but this is our second season of talking about NFL football. So, we're back. With me as always is Rob Green. What's up? And Ryan Wheeler. Howdy, howdy. Season two episode one is what it's officially gonna be titled and Tony, I told you not to talk so close to the mic, man. You like, blew out my eardrums there at the beginning but I just get excited. I know. You're so excited. You get excited so easily. We were talking about that before we like, actually started recording but anywho, uh so, we do that thing where we have an album and we split up the songs in the album and we try to get the song titles into the show as discreetly as possible. Sometimes not as discreet as we'd like to think we are but we're gonna give you our titles that way you know what to listen for. See how many you can catch. Just a little game within our show. My song titles, the album first of all is called Down to Earth by Jimmy Buffet. Rest in peace, Jimmy Buffet. It's his first album. Down to Earth. The songs that I have to get in are The Christian, LSD, The Missionary, and A Mile High in Denver. Rob, what do you got? Alright, I have the captain and the kid, Captain America, Ain't He a Genius, and Turnabout. Alright, and Sir Anthony. I've got There's Nothing Soft about Hard Times, I Can't Be Your Hero Today, and Truck Stop Salvation. So, we'll see if we can get all of those in. Uh most of the episode today is gonna be football. It's uh we we were doing some things during the off season to help pass time. Uh you know, Ultra Flex After Dark and having some fun with games and things like that but football season is here. Uh we're gonna be doing football talk here in a second where we're gonna pick our division of winners. We're gonna pick our Super Bowl, MVP, and then we're gonna pick week one games and then we'll have one game at the end. So, uh football, football, football. So, let's get it started with football talk. Just that really amps you up, doesn't it? Golly, that was good. It puts me in the football mood. It just, it feels like we're kind of, you know, whimsical, a little bit of uh goofy when we talk. So, I thought that was a good one for football, our football talk. Let's, let's start with, in my opinion, the less competitive conference which would be the NFC. Uh maybe you guys think differently. Um but let's go with NFC West. We'll skim over this if we all agree pretty quickly. Uh I'll go first. This one and then we'll just kinda alternate uh as we jump divisions but uh for me, the NFC West is the 49ers winning this division. Um I think they're the best team in the NFC. Any chance we can like we go NFC West that includes the that way for people that don't necessarily have the NFC West on the top of their head you're just gonna see that includes like the 49ers, Seahawks, Cardinals, uh Rams. Yeah, you just you just did it. Yeah, we can do it. Okay. Nailed it. Yeah. So, 49ers, Seahawks, uh Cardinals, Rams. For me, Cardinals, Rams are both gonna be pretty not so great. Comes out of the Seahawks and 49ers and I just think the 49ers are a better roster. Brian? Oh, it's next. Um I'm gonna go with the 49ers. I just think top to bottom, the roster is the best. Rob? Yeah, I agree but I wanna be different. So, give me the Seahawks. We hated on him last year. We picked him to be like what? One and sixteen I think cuz we thought they were terrible. Gino Smith's gonna continue his uh career turnaround, turn about. I don't know if I can use that here. And uh. And he's gonna lead them to a division title. Alright. They have the offensive weapons to do it though. They definitely have the offensive weapons. Maybe Brock Purdy isn't as good as he looked at the end of last year. We'll see. He doesn't have to be. They have Sam Darnold as the backup. I don't think that's why he doesn't have to be good but anyway. Yeah. I think he has enough weapons and Kyle Shanahan around him that will make him. Exactly it. Make him look good. Uh Ryan, I'll let you go first this time. We're talking about the NFC North. So, we got the Lions, the Packers, the Bears, and the Vikings. Who do you have winning that? The NFC North, I have the Packers taking that division. It kinda just feels like a crapshoot division honestly. I mean, I don't really feel good about my pick. I don't feel about picking any, good about picking any of those teams. So, I just want Jordan Love to be good because he's got an awesome name and quite honestly, that's that's how I came up with my answer. So, I was like, got the guy that has love in his name. I'm pretty sure from looking at this division, the odds are the closest bunch of four out of all the the division. Makes sense. So, it kind of is the most wide open division, I think. Who do you have? Yeah, who do you have picking, Rob? You know, our team last year was the Lions. So, I'm gonna I'm gonna bring that over to this year. Let's go with the Lions too. I don't even know the last time they won the division. Nineties probably. Early 90s, mid 90s. If they did then. I just don't know either. I think we'll find out pretty early AKA we're filming this on a Monday before the season starts. So, we'll find out in 3 days whether or not they'll be a pretty good team again which they have enough talent on the offense to put up points. It'll just. Yeah, what are we thinking like 60 points in that first game here with the Lions and Chiefs? It's gonna be a high score game. Probably, yeah. Yeah, no Chris Jones for the Chiefs and then the Lions don't really have much of anybody on defense. Um that means that yeah, they did what they took that linebacker. I can't think of his name right now. Um. The guy that everybody won the bills. Jack Campbell. Jack Campbell. Yeah. Yeah. Um but I agree. I have power on offense to be the best team in that division but I wouldn't would I be shocked if the Vikings or the Packers or even the Bears for that matter were to win it. Probably not. So, I'll go with the Lions. Uh the NFC East another compelling division. Got three and a half maybe. I don't know about Washington. Good teams. Um which the Cowboys, the Eagles, uh the commanders, and the Giants. Rob, who do you have winning the NFC East? Yeah, I like the Eagles. I think they're the best team in the NFC and I think they showed that last year. I think they'll do that again this year. Jalen Hurts continues his uh breakout. I won't say an MVP season but he could have another MVP caliber season like he did last year. Yeah, mine's gonna be the Eagles as well. I think their roster. While the Cowboys and Giants are gonna probably both win nine, ten games. I think the Eagles are just good enough to win eleven or twelve games and and win that division. So, Ryan, what about you? Yeah, I'm gonna be different and go uh Cowboys um not because I wanna be different but because I actually think the Cowboys are I think they have a better defense and I think their offense maybe not as good but I think they have a good offense and uh quite honestly, both these teams have pretty cake schedules. Um the Rob and I were talking about it earlier. Um sorry, we left you out of this conversation, Tony but the uh the Cowboys or I'm sorry, the the Eagles first was like seven games are the Patriots, Vikings, Buccaneers, Commanders, Rams, Jets, Dolphins, and then commanders again. It's like it's not that difficult. It could be six and one, seven and all. Yeah. And then the Cowboys was very similar. Like last year. So, it kinda feels like whoever wins this division is probably gonna win it with twelve. Twelve wins. Somewhere around there. Eleven, twelve. So, I just, I'm just gonna go Cowboys on that. That's gonna be a lot of my points in the AFC uh which we'll talk about in a second uh which is how hard all of their schedules are but uh last division um the NFC side is the NFC South. Could be the worst division in football. Uh we got the Saints, the Bucks, the Falcons, and the Panthers.

Welcome to the MMQB podcast. I am Matt Verteram, joined by Gilberto Manzano here. It is Thursday, August 24th, and that means we only have one week of preseason football up. We're all thankful for that. Gil, have you finished up your training camp tour? Are you done now, or you still got a few more you gotta hit? Yeah, no, I'm done, and when you said the date, Matt, I actually forgot what date it is today, so that tells me we're two weeks away from the real football season, so I am done with training camp. I don't know about you, Matt, but after like the fifth or sixth stop, I was over it. I saw enough, you know, kind of somewhat real football. I did check out a couple scrimmages, which felt like a little bit of real football, but before that I was like, I'm over the traveling. Let's just get to the Chiefs and the Lions for that. There's a night opener. Yeah, man, I went to eight camps. I saw nine teams because the Lions and the Giants had joined practice when I was up in Allen Park. The day that I woke up in Kansas City, I actually didn't know what city I was in when I woke up. I had like a two -second, I don't know if panic's the same. So, I'm done. I finished on Tuesday. I went up to Green Bay for the last one, which was kind of more of an add -on at the end. I had gone up there for OTAs to do a feature on Jordan Love, and I wanted to go back up there and visit with Matt Lafleur, and it was worth the six -hour round trip. It was a long, long bit of traveling one day, but we made it happen. How many camps did you get to over the course of the summer? I got to, I want to say eight, and I had like you with the extra one with the Saints. The Saints came to Southern California for joint scrimmage with the Chargers, so technically nine teams, but the way I think I did it was, I think it was five states. I drove to Las Vegas and Arizona, and then I flew to San Jose, Seattle, and Denver, and going from Seattle to Denver, that's the one I felt. But yeah, man, I primarily got the West Coast teams. I got, you know, eight teams. The ones that were easy was the ones in my backyard in LA, the Cowboys, the Chargers, and the Rams, but you know, after the, I got on the plane. You know, at one point I started thinking, I don't know how you did it, Matt, because you were driving everything. Me driving to Las Vegas and Arizona, that was too much. I couldn't do any more car rides after that. Yeah, I didn't fly for any of them. I'm based outside of Chicago. You're based in Los Angeles, so you, your teams are more sprawling for you. I mean, you're not driving to Seattle from LA. For me, the longest drive I had was Kansas City, which was like six and a half hours each way. So I did, I did make that happen. And it was tough for me to figure out who's who on that roster. So I got that. And then I got all the really good teams, like the 49ers, you know, I'm high on the Seahawks, you know, that from our doing our, our midsummer prediction, by the way, that was tough. We had to pick our Super Bowl teams in what, like April or May we're going to do it again. And I'm so happy about that, but the Seahawks look good. I like the Cowboys a lot, but every year it's the same thing. Like they get far and they don't get past the second round. So I can't commit to them. Same thing with the Chargers. They just don't go far. Like they're really hyped to have a lot of good players. So I keep going back to the 49ers because they've shown to me to at least get to the Super Bowl, or at least make it to the NFC title game. And then Brock Purdie being healthy. That to me was all I needed to see to say, you know what? I like the Seahawks, but I'm going to leave that bandwagon and go to the 49ers. Do you believe in Purdie? I mean, look, obviously you believe in him enough that you're, you're, you're high in the Niners, but you know, they'll roll with Purdie, which we knew they would, if he was healthy. Lance is the third string guy. And I know you wrote a piece on trail, Lance, we can get to him in a little bit here. The roster's stacked. I don't think anybody questions that. I mean, they have all pros literally in almost every single meeting room. They, they, they have guys everywhere. They have a very good head coach in Kyle Shanahan, but they've been a team that they haven't found their quarterback or at least they haven't proven to have found their quarterback yet. NFL approves emergency 3rd QB after 49ers' injury woes in NFC title game
"NFL teams will be allowed to play an emergency quarterback from the inactive list if the first two are injured during a game. The rule change was approved by league owners and stem from San Francisco's depth chart challenge in the NFC championship game. The emergency activation can only occur after an injury or disqualification, not for a performance related decision or other conduct. The forty-niners had to send Brock purdy back into the NFC title game with an injured elbow after four stringer Josh Johnson suffered a concussion. I'm get them cool ball.

I mean, I think Cincinnati would get in before Michigan would. Knowing what Michigan's resume is and probably will be by the end of the year. I want to share a bit of commentary though. I think it's very weird that Michigan is ranked ahead of Michigan state, even though they're both 9 and one. And Michigan state beat Michigan. What? How is the team that beat the other one ranked below the team that they beat? I don't know. It makes no sense to me. I don't really care though because I don't think I really think the final four is going to be George Alabama or we're going to say, we'll see if Georgia beats Alabama and the SEC title game that would throw a lot of wrenching stuff. But probably all that would do is put Cincinnati in and make it Georgia Oregon Ohio State Cincinnati. And then Cincinnati would get their bell rung by Georgia in round one of the playoffs. So yeah, those are my thoughts after week 11 of college football. It was a pretty fun weekend. And more on college football next, not next episode. I got you here on Friday. I really want that somehow because I just every time I see Louis hunting down, he's just on the prowl man. It's so cool to watch him do stuff like this where he has overtake after overtake after overtake. And one thing that really did help Lewis Hamilton early on was a safety car that brought the pack together. He got a good start, got up up in the field a little bit. And then Yuki sonoda crashed into land stroll. Yuki cenote was way too aggressive, taking the inside on a turn that really wasn't his. By the way, there were two DNFs in this race land stroll did not finish neither did Daniel Ricciardo. But when the safety car happened because of Yuki sonoda, max was way out in front, had a big gap and was way in the lead. And the safety car slowed him down and now would Lewis have still passed max mini.

So i don't wanna completely discount them but i don't necessarily think that the addition of jj watt and aj greener going to be this massive upgrade for arizona. I do think their defense is good. I have san francisco at four and one a new san francisco at three and two is that correct. That is correct week. Six by which. I hate especially now that the season is an extra week long thing. That's the earliest possible by the that teams could have had so. That's not doing the niners. Any favors okay. So we go two weeks six and then the forty niners are home against indianapolis that is also a sunday night football game. There's only one way to look at this game michelle. It's the north dakota state bowl right. It's gotta be carson wentz. It's gotta be against trae lance if trae is not started. he's just has to. I think by rule has to start this game against the only other quarterback in the nfl. That's a starter that came from north dakota state going to say this could very likely be trae lances for start after the bye week. Get them situated. It's a home game. it's a night game. That's pretty stressful for him. If that'd be his first start in. The colts have a pretty solid defense. So it wouldn't be the best match up for him but their offense is very questionable right now. Garafolo said that the forty niners are going to start trae lance when he's ready regardless of what jimmy garoppolo is doing and i agree with you michelle. I think that look if you can take five weeks. Plus the bye week trae lance. If he's not going to be ready at that point like when the hell would he be ready. So i completely agree that that could be as i start. I think they like the idea of his first. Start coming at home. I'm sure they probably don't love the fact that it would be prime time on sunday night football. But i mean you can't. You can't worry about that. You took this guy. Third overall in the draft you gave up all those picks to go get him like he's going to have to play in prime time so if you think he's ready just start them and don't look back and i think a lot of it depends on their record right so i had them at three and to maybe see. This is the biggest issue with going in with jimmy garoppolo. If they're at foreign one like you said the team might not want to make that change right. I the older vets on that team. I we're winning jimmy garoppolo. Why would you change this. It's what happened in miami last year ryan. Fitzpatrick was winning and they're really close to the playoffs. They switched to to to also still when games but it felt like the team was very divided. I think that could be the issue here now. Of course if they're at three losses or something like that before the by it'd become a lot easier to switch to lance but obviously that's not something you want to root for as a fan. You wanna win games. That's why i hate this whole thing. I don't like that. There's this cloud over the team. Because they could very well be four. In one and jimmy garoppolo could not really be a big reason for that success kinda like in twenty nineteen when he was just sort of along for the ride but players are going to look and see. Hey he's leading us. Victories like trae lance could. It's possible trae. Lance comes in plays better than jimmy. Garoppolo was playing and the forty niners still lose especially when you consider some of the games on the schedule but yet people will just point to the win loss record. That's why. I don't like having jimmy on the roster. There's a cloud that would hang over the team. You can't try and move in with the new girlfriend when the old girlfriend is still in the apartment. It doesn't work. That is not a tolerable living situation. But hopefully that forty nine years at least from my perspective have made the switch by then lance gets in and against the good defense like the colts trays. Mobility could be a huge asset because the colts can rush the passer. And i don't love jimmy garoppolo facing any sort of pass rush that that would be nice card for the forty niners to be able to play against the colts. I guess i will give them a win as well. I feel like. I'm giving too many windsor homer. It isn't easy schedule but that brings us to the week. Eight game possibly one of my favorite games and the whole schedule because michelle. It could be justin fields against trae lance. the niners are in chicago. This is an early start game for them. Ten am pacific time against the bears. So yes and speaking of burke's like brandon uk's rookie season is getting so overshadowed because yeltsin jefferson had just an absolutely amazing rookie season like broke all those records. But that does not defeat why brandon. I did like we should not be just overlooking that. He led all rookies and targets per game. He had the second most receptions per game receiving yards per game just behind justin jefferson. He was one of five rookie wide. Receivers to average five receptions for game since twenty ten and the other four. Were odell beckham. Michael thomas justin jefferson jarvis landry and all of those guys. I ended up having ninety five plus receptions and were selected to the pro bowl in their second season so the first three that i guess we have to see what justin jefferson does because he was just last year as well but odom michael. Thomas jarvis landry all had over ninety five receptions in their second year. I think brandon i. You can be like. I know you're worried. Like he's so good when he's action the he opens up everything to he can. He is a guy who can get a massive chunk. Play for you. And that's not normal for the forty niners. You need him on the field. He's averaging five point four yards per carry since twenty nineteen. That leads the nfl. For guys. i have over one hundred fifty carries since twenty nineteen That's a lotta guys. And he leads the nfl in yards per carry like. He's so good he's also just a player. I mean this is the theme of the podcast. Stay healthy and that's why they drafted trae sermon. And i 'cause i feel like kyle just if you looked at kyle shanahan last year. He aged in dog years like it was he did rent you like it. Just took it out of them. All sunny started growing. The beard appeared started growing in like all grey. It was just an absolute gut punch for him last year. And i think his message to john lynch and everybody in that organization was like this can not happen to us again. He even said the injuries hit us before cova. Did they've built in redundancies in the entire roster. You mentioned it quarterback now running back you look. They have traced sermon and they drafted ally mitchell and they brought in wayne gaughman. You look at the offensive line. They drafted two guards on the offensive line to really try and shore up the interior of the line. They're they're bringing in defensive lineman like crazy like they have the debt that defensive line that is going to serve them so well this year as they try to keep everybody fresh and rotated. They basically have redundancies. Built in an injury insurance so to speak built in on almost every position except for linebacker and secondary but other than that they are doing everything they can to try and avoid just the absolute train wreck that was last year. Yeah and you're so right. Shanahan looked so rough at the end of that season. Like if you look at a picture of him before he became the forty niners head coach. After it's like it's only been forty years dude like what happened to you. He's aging like a president. Yeah he really is horman format because he's a cute guy but yeah it's the his face just looks like sunken in mike just so tired all right so the now you mentioned that. He's a cute guy so now i have to ask who is the best looking. Nfl head coaches. it cooked kingsbury. Yeah it has to be single. Because i know a lot of women think he is like devastatingly. I think he had like twenty targets that game. He was the dfs angel darling. That week there was one more point that you wanted to make about the forty nine years offense michelle before we take our break and get to some of the defensive things on what was the last nugget that you found offense for the niners he is. I just think it's not even so much unagi. I wanted to just bring up. How we are not appreciating two players enough. And it's george kittle and brandon. I i know i know. People love george getaway or not appreciating the greatness that they are because they're being overshadowed by two other guys right. Like george kittle. Gets overshadowed by travis kelsey travis kelsey so fantastic. And he's on the you know he's on the chiefs and they just keep winning with homes. But kittle is so stinking. Good is the. Here's a second most receiving yards per game in his career. Out of all tight ends in. Nfl history. And the only one that has more is travis kelsey. And that's why he's being overshadowed its travis kelsey at seventy one receiving yards per game in his career. And then george kittle at sixty seven and a half like he's right there behind him rob gronkowski's after george kittle and in kellen winslow senior hall of famer is ripe of right below rob gronkowski. It's like what george kittle has done in. His career is absolutely absurd. And we're not giving him the love. He deserves an obviously when he missed his eight games. Your offense is not going to be the same. like george. kittle is the most important part of your offense. I don't think it's the quarterback. It's trae land jimmy garoppolo find. Gimme one of them. But if george gidell's not in that game you're not going to be as good. You need him there any He's going for the record to have the most receiving yards by tight. Unin his first five. Nfl seasons in nfl history. All he needs is eleven hundred and seventy four receiving yards any Surpasses jimmy graham for the most in the first five years. He's gonna get it if he stays healthy right like it's what he always does. He is so stinking good and people need appreciate him a little bit more in the forty niners you to make sure that he is healthy all season long. It's funny because a lot of people said that about tiger woods like tigers so good and he's winning so many tournaments that we're not realizing how good the other people are that he's playing against like you know phil mickelson would have more major wins. If tiger woods wasn't damn near winning everything but tigers there and he keeps winning. So it's sort of skews view of that. The thing with kittle to like if you were to compare him to kelsey. I would say look. Chelsea's had patrick mahomes throwing the ball like the most talented quarterback of his generation. Yeah he's gonna put up good numbers. George kittle set. The single season receiving yards record by a tight. End without jimmy garoppolo with nick mullins and bag of cats like he's been putting up his numbers with terrible quarterback play so that makes it even more impressive. I just want to see. George kittle score touchdowns like you can't be as good as he is and not score more than five touchdowns in any season in your career. Yeah i do like i. I think this is the year we see him. Up and touchdowns is long as trae lines is playing the opens up the entire offense around the goal line. But like like you just brought up. He's been doing this with all different quarterbacks and mostly terrible ones and when you're looking like when you're comparing what he's done he compares to the best wide receivers and the nfl not just tight ends. It's like he's averaging seventy five receiving yards per game in each of the last three seasons. When you're looking at that. That's julio jones has done that deondraye Has done that. He's had the shawn watson. Davante adams has done at three years in a row. He has aaron rodgers. And then travis kelce he's the only other one and he has patrick mahomes over the last three season. So it's coolio hopkins kittle adams and kelsey. Those are the only players who have averaged seventy five receiving yards per game the last three seasons. That's amazing list and to be a tight on on that list with quarterbacks he's been playing with he's being overlooked of how great he truly. Well they really need him to be that great and shine now. Because he's on the big contract and i keep saying over and over again. You need your guys that play on those big contract to show up and be a plus players because it's a salary cap league and so by definition the more resources you give to them the less you have to give to anybody else so those guys have to produce for you. That's why i agree with what you're saying. And i really hope we do see a twelve thirteen fourteen hundred yard seized from kittle and i want to see double digit like yeah. It's a really good year. Am or we have to start and thank god you messaged me and said hey. I need an extra five minutes. I was like bank tastic. I couldn't have been happier. 'cause now i actually had time to digest my food instead of just inhaling it you know i'm always late you know you would have time. I'm always always tell you the time and then like i'm running five to ten minutes late so you know you have extra little space there. I was hoping that you would message me. Because i have noticed the a bit of a trend so thank you. I can't. I can't say anything because last week was on me. We didn't have a show last week. Because i was a little under the weather. What's most interesting is to be like. Do they have the pieces in place for the change happen. And if you're writing these writing about these teams. They didn't put the pieces in place. But i think the forty niners have have the pieces to make the changes embiid good so i'm excited to talk about all of that. I'm excited to see. If because obviously i have my observations as to why they've struggled and i want to see the things that i have observed just watching the games match up with what you have dug up in your research. We should get into it then. I before we get into this research. I did like we need to talk about the injuries. Because it's boggling my mind. It's they've files. I mind how one team can be so unlucky like there has to be something wrong within the organization. So that's what everybody has been saying. Now right i feel like the worm has turned and it went from. Oh the forty niners or so unfortunate. What bad luck to have all these injuries. And now i think people are just so pissed off about it that they're looking for someone to blame. They don't like that. It's just circumstance so now it's kyle shanahan fault because its practices there too hard or as john lynch fall for bringing in guys with injury histories like they want. People want someone to blame now and people are not going to give them the injury. Excuse anymore because what they say is it can't just be luck. They must be doing something to cause these. Yeah or is it the field like they have to figure out what it was because you said that they changed the whole staff around For the conditioning and making sure like players are staying healthy so if they change the staff you would think it seemed like the injuries got worse for the new staff right like last year was the worst it could be. You already have three major injuries this year. Now two of the guys were not plan starters anyways but still you don't wanna lose depth it just it's crazy and now they have to cancel many camp. That's not a good thing. Kyle tried to sell it like all we were planning on cancelling it anyway and maybe he was. You can't tell me that the injuries that they've had so far were not a factor in that decision guide. I will never believe that mean jeff. Wilpon got injured standing up out of a chair. Like i don't know if there's a who curse on the forty niners or what but like these are professional. Athletes world trained human beings. San Francisco 49ers trade up for the No. 3 pick
"The forty niners trade up to number three overall in the twenty twenty one draft. This was shocking. News to me. Came out right after my episode released on saturday or on friday after i sent over my episode but i normally just was not expecting Draft news to come this early. I feel like most years. The draft news comes a lot closer to the draft is still three or four weeks away but the forty niners did in their aggressive so they traded the twelfth overall. Pick a twenty twenty two third round compensatory pick and first round picks in twenty twenty two and twenty two thousand three for the miami dolphins number three overall selection so the dolphins moved to twelve where the four nine were previously listed. And now the forty niners move up to three. So what does this mean. First of all they swap a total of three first round picks. Is that smart to do. I think it is if they liked the guy. If they're convinced on one of these quarterbacks enough and they're confident that they can get them at number three. I think it's a great move because at this point the forty niners roster is loaded. They're trying to win now. And all they need is that future franchise cornerstone to kind of move that what roster forward and push them over the hump so they need to get the future of the franchise right while the roster and core are relatively young and talented like they are but overall. I think this is a great move by four hundred. Gm john lynch because he's been aggressive. He really inherited a mess in two thousand seventeen. They were coming off all the colin kaepernick drama Jim thome soula era. Which was a fun was which was really fun while it lasted Brian hoyer was his first quarterback when he got there he's made aggressive moves since he treated for jimmy garoppolo drafted. "Not in season. But March has been mad for the league, especially this week here, Schefty with what all went down. What happened here is that the 40 Niners have been trying to move up in the draft into the top five, frankly, for the last few weeks now, and they were able to cold together a deal with the Miami Dolphins at the same time that the Dolphins were going together a separate deal. With the Philadelphia Eagles that enabled the 40 Niners toe move up the third overall position to take a quarterback. And that means in all probability that we're gonna have quarterbacks go with the first three picks in this draft. We would think Trevor Laurence goes one Zack Wilson to and then the 40. Niners would have their choice. Assuming they stand three for the third quarterback in this draft. I would not dismiss Mack Jones in that conversation. Like Trey, Lance. They like Justin Fields.
