But we are beginning to see a few folks trying to get back from the Eastern shore via 50 has to be expected. But if you're heading westbound through Cambridge through east in and then 50 passing 44 through wind mill. Normal slowdowns. If you will, a traffic light delay passing through Queenstown and the outlets as well. And we are beginning to backlog westbound across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. You've got your three lanes. They're very slow. Must be beautiful, looking at all the water and the boats as you pass through going east bone. It's about the same. But the big news. No incidents reported. This is all volume. And once you're past the bridge, things do loosen up through Annapolis, buoy to the Beltway and even inside of the Beltway now into northeast Washington, New York Avenue south on DC 2 95 is a little sluggish. We do have a Nats game kicking off at about 45 minutes. So inbound on 3 95 in the 14th Street Bridge also slow across. 3 95 Southwest Freeway getting to South Capitol Street. So anticipate some volume delays along M Street as well. But again, no incidents to tell you about looking back in Maryland, 95 from the capital Beltway through the Baltimore Beltway doing well. The Baltimore Washington Parkway running north is sluggish and stretches through Laurel without incident. Route Three in Gamble's crash happened in the early morning hours and Route three. No, I'll tell you the doctors right out of it right right from the start here have said, you know, it's a good thing that you're vaccinated. I certainly do not do not like the idea of our government's mandating mandating masks or things of that nature. I understand the benefit of it, but I do not. I do not agree with mandating it from a government level. I think it's I think it's government overreach. The only thing that I think is I in theory philosophically I agree with you. I always like government to go from the bottom North, not from the top down. That being said, though, when the governor says Okay mask mandates for the kids in schools or what have you the public schools? At least it takes a lot of pressure off local school boards from those meetings becoming very contentious and sometimes even violent. Yeah. I mean, I can see that. Look, it's a huge issue. It's a huge issue, um, with its with school boards and parents, especially when you get into the grade school age. I mean, there. I have heard very salient, pragmatic arguments on both sides of the fence, right? I mean, and it's one of those things that are very impassioned. Whenever you talk about Especially when you talk about topics like this where you're talking literally about government getting getting in the interference and making decisions on behalf of parents. We appreciate you being where the on the Sunday Morning edition of Housing information you can trust. You can talk to us today during the show at 8886544897. Is Bob still on the line? Can he sure is Bob sorry about that a minute ago by best question about a driveway. No problem at all. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, guys, I had a new drive Concrete guy report. It was last, uh, September October time frame. And then I know this this year for about the last month or so. When we put cars on the driveway, not driving fast, start breaking quick or anything. There are black tire marks. And I'm not sure I guess I can scrub them off. But I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to prevent that from happening. Prevent it from happening. Yeah, I mean, obviously, First thing I'm gonna say is trying to do your best not to turn. I mean and and the driveway as far as turn your tires as much, but the only thing I can think of Chuck is just a good sealer that you can put down that may not prevent it as much. Um As much as being able to clean it real easy when it does happen, may minimize a little bit yet almost all the time, Bob when you've got that and concrete, it's it's literally an abrasion mark. Which means you know the tire was Being turned down the concrete and the type of the concrete being rough is, you know, literally pulling rubber off the tire. You said. That's so much better than I did. Yes, it's interesting, because I don't I don't break it hard or anything I did. I do notice some of the attorney and I understand that. So you're saying Probably the best thing is scrub it down and then just get a concrete sealer. Yeah, but if you're in Plymouth, the place you should go is called Cougar cutting and it's actually and 12 Mile road just east of back right by 96 back road. And they will have Mr Cardigan cougar cutting As in the big cat sugar coating. We'll give that a try. I appreciate Yeah. No problem, But for anyone else listening. They've got a product called Vax con, and you can put that down. They haven't a glass and having a high gloss, gloss and matte finish, and it's a very good product with A anti slip aging it as well. And the breathable product, right? Yes. Yeah. Okay. The house, Bob Cougar. Innocent. Okay, thank you Much. You're welcome. You're welcome. Yeah, Tweet. That's pretty easy and salt to it really is you know what a roller just a heavy Matt roller and you can roll it right out. Just you want to clean that Robert Tyre marks off first. But if you don't, you're going to seal those in So if you don't want to wash the driveway down first, at least take a leaf blower and blow everything off first. So how often would you say to somebody? You've got a brand new concrete driveway half should you seal it annually? No, I would say every 4 to 5 years, Okay, put a seal around it. You know, you asked me that question. Probably two or three years ago, Should should every driveway be sealed. And I think I've changed my mind since you asked for that driveway before, because I've just seen the driveways that have, but I paid more attention to us. And you asked me that question and driveways that they get a good seal on it tend to Hold their finish longer. I think so. That's the bottom line. Yeah, I agree with you. We get a lot of questions about the driveway joints in our emails, and we've talked to people about how to repair those joints. But what I want to make clear to people someone like Bob, We just got a new driveway. They They cut that driveway when they're done. We talked about the driveway is going to be about 3.5 to 4 inches. The expansion joints. They're going to be cut about one inch down. You should have stealing our concrete. You do not have what My point is. You do not have to put anything in those joints. If it's a newer driveway only time we need to put Polyurethane cock that we've talked about in the past. Chuck in a driveway and concrete is when you're having some displacement. Uh, cracks too big. It's opening up too much. You don't have to put that in as a preventative maintenance like you do the ceiling. On the driveway. Catch it fair. Yeah, I guess I have. I have two different schools of thought on that to me anything that we can do to to shed surface water and keep it from getting below the kind of greed is a good preventative. Okay, And we know that those control joints literally are through and through a crack in the concrete, which means water can get from the top to the bottom. Yes. So I might, uh I might say to somebody. Hey, if you've got time you got the money. You got the willpower Go ahead and Talk Those Day one your premises, right? I I agree with your premise. But what do we always say? We want to prevent as we get older. Make more work more work. Exactly. Juries, Yes, equal and trust, peace. Anyone doing that? The up and down to deal with a cop gun, you know, so there's a lot of bending over your back and stuff all over. You been there done that on a regular basis, but Once you even the pal, you're things, Chuck. You know, you see, Um A lot of people will know that Polly er things they see it around a pool. Or if you do an in ground pool, you'll see a a gray substance. It's almost like a rubber around the coping of the pool, and that's very similar to what we're talking about to put into the driveways. However, Um, once you put it in, you pray that driveway doesn't move much because you're gonna have to redo it and eventually, so that's right. That's where I come down on that. I wouldn't do it. Just because I don't want to do more maintenance in the future. It's like building a fence. At some point. You've got to repaint to turn right your nationally, right? Yes, and hearing. Hey, you don't you came up with a great product We were talking about earlier and this is a which I come up with it. You know, come up with it, But you found it. I'll give you credit for that, Um, this product. No doubt will help people. They have lost power this week, and it's not a generator. It's not. I mean, it's just really not. It's affordable. Is that fair to say it's very affordable safety convenience. I mean, imagine this. Imagine that. You know, at three o'clock in the morning, you lose your power. Your you got to get up for work. You have no light where we have an affordable way that you could have lights. Right. You switch that even if you don't have other stuff, but we're not gonna tell people that's safer. Eastbound and westbound traffic is halted between I five and warehouse her way because of a semi truck fire. It was earlier a crash between a pair of semis. At whatever happened in that crash sparked a fire and is completely burned out one of the semis and there is a large fire response. They're still thick black smoke coming out. So even if you're just near the area that could be a visual distraction, But for the actual traffic, trying to get through the highway 18 corridor completely blocked between warehouse away and I five as far as alternates. There are a couple surface streets that might might work out for you. If you are really desperate to get from, say, to coma to Auburn, your easiest bet might actually be taking 167 through Puyallup and then all the way up to Auburn that direction. We have no indication at this point how long traffic is going to be blocked on highway 18? Between warehouses ER and I five will, of course, keep you up to date. It does look like some traffic is able to divert over to warehouse or way before you approach this fire. On eastbound 18 other than that really serious issue. We're not dealing with many crashes. "Availability. Virginia Office Falls Church before 47597732 4 47 on 7 20 w G N filmmaking today plier. We stick with the podcast theme. The podcast is called if the walls could talk and you have to listen to this Joining us right now. Todd Ganz in Stephanie Young. Thank you for joining us guys. How are you doing? Thank you much for having us. Tell me about this podcast. I am I am such A history geek. And when you guys told me you were doing this, I'm like her. I I think it's one of those stories. It's kind of been forgotten in Chicago history. I mean, there's the big stories, the fire and, more recently, all the sports stuff and the flooding downtown in the nineties, But Meanwhile, there is this giant hospital in Chicago's Edgewater Hospital. That kind of sat here and did its think about 50 years. It was just like the Premier hospital for a long time. In fact, if you look at it from the exterior, it was designed to look and actually run like a hotel. So you would walk in. Imagine doing this today walking into your hospital of your doctor's office, and there's a bellhop there who takes you know you upstairs or if you have bags, they would carry them. And, um, it's completely unlike what you would expect from the hospital today, right? It opened in 1929. Correct. Yeah. So this was just before the great Depression. So, uh, yeah, There was There was a lot working against it in the early day. But there are pictures on your website and your you know your page about The whole story of it. And Stephanie? There was a there was a pool there. There was a pool, so there was a nurse's residence, and they were like little apartments that the nurses could rent. They were studio apartment. And they would just live in those and then work in the hospital next door, And on top of that versus residents, there was a pool. And the the notes of that. Lived. There were able to use that pool for exercising parties and hanging out whatever that's amazing this. This was state of the art at the time, right? It was. It was incredible. Yeah. And if you think about it all this was done. It was kind of innovative because there were nursing shortages in the fifties and sixties, so the hospital decided to import these nurses and then built these nurses residents for them to live so It had that it was the first to have a hyperbaric chamber, which Stephanie can speak to because it was featured in Grey's Anatomy. Really? Yeah, the last season of Grey's Anatomy. They had a lot of different scenes of the hyperbaric chambers that you didn't know what it was before Edgewater Hospital. If you watch Grey's anatomy, you know what it is now. There you go. So I don't watch Grey's Anatomy. I'm sorry. What is that? It is a chamber where they can help you with the pressurization. So like a lot of people that get the bends from scuba diving, the blood oxygen levels changes, so they put them in the hyperbaric chamber, and it helps with a lot of different things to like different Jesus and breathing treatments, respiratory issues. They can just put people in this chamber and it takes them down to like a certain depth and the oxygen in their blood will replenish. Wow. And this was when did this come about? When did they have it at Edgewater? So the chamber went in sometime in the sixties and was used up until the hospital closed. 2001. In fact, the 19 nineties Chicago Bulls teams, the dynasty a lot of them. If they had injuries, they would send them over the hospital and they would be treated there. Wow. How did you guys get involved with this? What made you say? This story needs to be told. And first of all, thank you for doing it. You guys do such an incredible job with this. How how did you get involved? I think the story has three parts. There were the good years. The years we kind of talked about the 1st 50, where it was kind of the northwestern or the rush of Chicago medicine. It was You know the leader here in Chicago and then came kind of a weird year where weird period where it changed management. And at that point, they were just trying to keep the doors open and what they did. Was do just about anything to fill up their hospital beds, and that's when things they're really got bad and that part of the story was intriguing, as was the history. But then the hospital closed 2000 and one Just sat there and I'm talking about 15 16 years of chest nine Building campus sitting idle at the end of the street here in Edgewater, where I live, so It certainly caught my attention when I moved up here, and I thought this hospital was just maybe closed the day I walked by it when I first moved up here and later found out. No, it actually had been closed for a long time, and there was some scandals and Lot of fraud that happened that caused it to close. So it really was just curiosity and almost a lack of stories because this all kind of happened right after 9 11, So it was really buried in the news here in Chicago, so there wasn't a ton reported about it. So once we started to Dig a little deeper and find people who did write about it or who did work there. It led to just Oh, you got to talk to this person. Don't forget to talk to that person, and it really began probably a two year process of us just talking and interviewing people. And Stephanie. It just grew and grew. Where you you as Todd just mentioned you had to Keep the story going, because there were like more rooms and another door open. It's like Oh, what about this right? Exactly. So when we started the project, we were actually sitting at a bar across the street having a drink, and Todd was saying, you know, I really wish we could have done a documentary or something like that about this hospital because by that point we've done a little bit of research on it and thought the story was just so crazy and You know, he was like, I didn't really have enough video footage for something to do documentary and I looked at him. I said, Well, why don't we do a podcast? So that's kind of where the idea was born. And from there, we thought it was just going to be like a short 56 episode series. And as we started doing more and more research, and like Todd mentioned, we talked to more and more people and they were like, Well, you need to talk to this person and this person and we were in Facebook groups posting like, Did anybody work at Edgewater and we find people to talk to from there and then they would Just other people. So all in all, we probably interviewed roll over 100 people for this project, and every time we interviewed somebody, they suggested someone else, but we just kept going and kept going. And there were a few times where we interviewed people in the course of the whole podcast changed like their story was so impactful that it kind of went a different direction than what we were going to do. And then we ended up with An 11 episode series with a couple bonus episodes thrown in, right. We're talking with Todd Ganz and Stephanie Young. If the walls could talk is the podcast. Yes, And and every episode, there's new door that opened up. Let's talk a little bit more about the beginning. When it was it was thriving. It was state of the art. There were other hospitals in Chicago at the time, but this was kind of the jewel, right? Yeah. I mean, if you go back to its origins, it was just this little like square looking building on the corner of Edgewater and Ashlyn and Hollywood Avenues here, and it just looked like a hotel. And that's what the co founder wanted Divide to be. It was supposed to be a place you went to relax. In fact, they had private rooms in the hotel or hotel to have It's catching me, too, in the hospital, which was run like a hotel, so that if you wanted to get away for a while, you could just check in, and these rooms had views of the city and had like ornate dining sets and teapots..

They did it by walking out just before midnight deadline last night more with CBS News correspondent Kristina Ruffini in a dramatic late night maneuver. Democrats blocked the vote on Texas Senate Bill seven just before it's midnight deadline. That yeah, and railed against last minute provisions added to the bill behind closed doors, including making it easier for judges to throw out election results. Based on the allegation of fraud. The bill is one of the most restrictive in the country. It bans drive through and 24 hour. Voting makes it illegal for counties to send unsolicited absentee ballots. Adds new idea requirements for those ballots and limits polling hours even during early voting that sweeping legislation created after former President Trump's repeated false claims of voter fraud last year. "And agent availability. Virginia Office Falls Church before 47597732. For 18 traffic and weather on the eight years day building Tough Friday on the Beltway in Maryland and Virginia, with wet weather should come as no surprise. There are very few places in the Beltway, where you're even close to the speed limit in Northern Virginia volume delays anywhere between the Wilson Bridge and the Rappahannock River Bridge in Fredericksburg in Fairfax County. Recent crashes, including Braddock Road, West, Mount, Roberts wrote back like Road in Springfield. Both ways nearly would forced drive traffic all but stopped there. You're 1 23, in front of the commuter lot under police direction at a crash at the Potomac River Bridge is moderate to heavy traffic, even inbound on chain bridge. That in part because of a crash on Canal Road outbound near Arizona Avenue Ambulance was blocking the right lane. It's both lanes outbound on that portion of canal Everything has a cause and effect When traffic is this heavy and the roads were this sensitive. That's why heavy traffic is right now. The case on Whitehurst Freeway Canal Road on M Street in Georgetown, it also more drivers went for the George Washington Parkway on the other side of the Potomac River, and that's backed up to near 1 23. It's a good barometer to show you how much demand there is for the roads today, and how little wiggle wiggle room There is for air 50 eastbound slow from Davidsonville toward I 97 but the crashes on the right shoulder.
