Eric and Max McLean Discuss C.S. Lewis's Greatest Sermon

"I'm talking about one of my favorite subjects ever C. S. Lewis, the author, the Christian apologist, talking to a dear friend, max McLean. Max, you've spent much of your life bringing Lewis to life on the stage. I've seen you do a number of things. They blur together in my mind. I can't remember divorce. Okay, so screw tape, the great divorce and the most in convert, which I saw what? Three years ago, I don't know. It was it opened in New York. It ran for 15 weeks in New York in 2016. Well, not only that, but I was privileged, I think in either maybe it was 2005 to see you it might have been after that, to see you give the sermon the weight of glory. The saint Mary's church in Cambridge, that's the place where Lewis gave that sermon in the 50s, I guess, 41. 41. Really? Wow. One of his most famous sermons. And it's funny as a sermon because, you know, people have different ideas of what sermons are. This is just like a spectacular essay that's also a sermon. But you memorize the whole thing. That was pretty influential in the writing of this play. In fact, the it concludes with a good bit of a weight of goy. There are no ordinary people. We've never met a mere mortal. Yeah. I'll say. I want to convert a lot of what Louis wrote into hard boiled 30s dialog. Gee joy your swell. She probably spoke like that as a New Yorker. You've done so much of this, but to bring it to the screen because that's to me, it's always been one of the frustrations of theater, is that only so many people get to the theater, and that there is something when you can put it on the screen, of course, it's different. But you had our friend Norman stone turn it into a

Former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins on Trump's Appeal and Biden's Weakness

"Book, Doug Collins is with us former Republican congressman from Georgia on the subject of Donald Trump. This week, a quinnipiac poll came out showing that Donald Trump actually is more popular with registered voters than Joe Biden. One mainstream media outlet said, shock poll. Trump 41% favorability. Biden 40%. The only thing shocking is that anybody thought it was shocking. Yeah, but what do you expect? I mean, this is the media who's been obsessed with this. I mean, they have been in really what I almost say is a catatonic sit almost, except they're not laying prone and abandon where they're out actually screaming all the time since he came down the escalator to start with. Now, whether you know, again, no matter where you came from or where you started, Donald Trump has a way of connecting with the American people that it is still very prevalent in the poll is not shocking. When you have a president such as Joe Biden. I mean, just look at the contrast. President Trump, like I said, no matter what side of the fan she failed on. And for those of us who supported him, he would get, he would engage with the media he would fight back. He would give you his answers whether you liked or not. Joe Biden comes up reads a 7 minute statement. If he's going to take questions while I can't talk to you, or most of the time, though, the picture of this administration is him turning around and walking off without ever answering a question. There's no wonder. By the way, when people go to the gas bombs and at three and $4 gas when they see their shells in their grocery store with nothing on them when they see all of this going on inflation rising and they keep hearing this kind of elitism coming out of this White House. I'm surprised Joe Biden, frankly, you know what the shock pole for me is that it's 40%. No kidding. Yeah, I would think it would be about

Reflecting on the 1987 Book 'The Closing of the American Mind'

"1987 my older brother Doug gave me a book It was a book called the closing of the American mind Is by philosopher professor Alan bloom And I was doing my research for American Marxism among other things I reread that book And he has some very brilliant things to say And so on page 40 to 41 of the book I point out that he wrote that every quote every educational system has a moral goal That it tries to attain and that informs its curriculum It wants to produce a certain kind of human being This intention is more or less explicit or less the result of reflection But even the neutral subjects like reading and writing and arithmetic take their place in a vision of the educated person Democratic education wants and needs to produce men and women who are supportive of a democratic regime In Bloomberg excuse me bloom went on to warn that we have a culture in which to root education But we have begun to undermine it The idealism of the American founding has been explained away as mythical selfless selfishly motivated and racist So our culture has been devalued Nobody believes that the old books do or even could contain the truth Tradition has become superfluous 1987

Gary Ginsberg Talks About the Friendship Between Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed

"Actually shared a double bed for four years. But it was not uncommon back then for men to jump into bed together, particularly lawyers who were riding the circuit to do that, because let's be clear there weren't a lot of holiday ends back in Springfield, Illinois, in the 18 thirties. So betting was scarce and men would get into bed together without actually having any sexual relations, so they became extremely close Friends. For four years, and it plays out in the most crucial moment in January of 18 41 went after, as they say, the four years where they share every meal together. They share the bed. Together. They share their intimate secrets and fears and hopes and dreams. But in 18 41 Lincoln becomes depressed and he was prone to depression. He takes to his bed and speed ministers to him over the course of a month and at one point Lincoln and wants to kill himself. So speed takes away all of his sharp objects. It was only because of speeds intervention. Do we even know the name Abraham Lincoln today? But the real twist of this whole story is that they then basically speak goes back to Kentucky. Lincoln becomes, as we all know. Famous lawyer becomes a congressman. And then in the 18 fifties, becomes a candidate for the Senate, and his views on slavery are evolving in the 18 fifties at the same time, that speed is the most successful businessman in Kentucky and also his slave owner. And they've grown apart for a pet 18 forties over some disputes over unpaid legal bills. But 18 fifties they start cook corresponding on the issue of slavery, and Lincoln bares his soul about How he is just tortured by the institution of it and and speed defend. It defends the institution and they have a very honest debate in these letters.

"And the main question in your mind is what's going to happen to our fellow American citizens. And the polls are turning Washington lives and dies by polls. 41% of the public approval what Biden is doing. Which means Almost 60% do not. And the question about how we're going to get American citizens out the last American citizen. How we're going to identify them has been the question on our minds for at least a week. The conditions that are in place were put there by Biden. The environment in which what troops we have there operate. Was created by Biden. He did this His generals went along with it. His secretary of state secretary, defense and National security Advisor. Went along with it. And I I stand apart from those who say we shouldn't bring Afghans to the United States or to our ally countries. Who served with US shoulder to shoulder One with the other. And I noticed that the vast majority not all but the vast majority of men who have fought over there in Afghanistan say exactly the same thing. The vast majority of people here who like to pontificate and hear their own voices. Do not, they don't matter.

Tactical Tuesday: Hands From Greatness Village

"Let's start out by breaking down this hand. Thomas played in a live poker streets. So this had it's at five ten twenty live somewhere in. La starts with a fish in the cutoff opening to sixty dollars. Another fish on the button calling and a very strong pro calling the big blind and thomas completing from the straddle with jat nine diamonds So there's two hundred forty dollars going to flop. The flop has ten seven deuce rainbow The flats checked around. I don't know if you wanna have a brief discussion agenda on on on docking swap and whether You know thomas his hand or or this situation you think warrants dunk so yeah. I don't know that. It warrants donkey. But i would say that the details that i would like to have available or add in would be if there's any sort of indication from either of the fish that they've kind of just mentally given up the hand i think if there's some sort of live read that you can cobble together to influence your decision here than i would prefer if say one of those players is it has already mentally checked out. I think that's pretty reasonable spot to dunk there. And then there's gonna be lots of like over cards. I think the fish and position or going to play their value pretty straight forwardly so we can apply lots of pressure on various run outs. Plus we have position on the pro. So yeah. I think that like i wouldn't mind a dunk. If we know that one of the players has mentally checked out. But barring that if we don't have any information then i'm just going to check long and kind of see what happens. Yeah i mean. I don't i don't play very many multi to begin with It's pretty rare where i even have do that. Just that until like another thing. That i would like to kind of know about or see before deciding whether or not i wanted dunk. Slop is whether there's a diamond on the flop vow would go a long ways towards shifting towards like putting me in the category But we don't know. I'm just gonna assume that there isn't a diamond on the flop because i mean coach. Thomas is the type of person to to definitely to put that in there if there was a diamond but it's ten seventies rainbow vodkas. Checked around turn is an off suit nine and the pro and the big widened butts. One seventy five and to forty again thomas. is jack nine of diamonds. So he turns. I compare now has got shot or excuse me got shot. So now has a pair and got shot on the turn I just solved the mystery by the way. So if the turn is an offshoot nine then it must mean that. We have a diamond on the

Affluent Americans Are Retiring as Pandemic Changes Priorities

"Interesting societal change going on in America and maybe the world right now, People are retiring and leading jobs in numbers We have not seen before, and it's for a variety of reasons. A recent Federal Reserve survey showed that 2.5 million affluent Americans 55 or older say they plan to retire soon. And the number of people expecting to work after 67 is at a record low of only 33% and two thirds of people say they're going to quit before age 67. This has never happened before. Some of the drivers are affluence. You know you have more money and after the pandemic, you realize that life is short and you want to make the most of it. And a new poll from monster dot com found that 95% of workers are thinking about finding a new job, and they say it's often because of just plain old burnout. Consulting firm. Gartner found that 55% of workers reported experiencing significant burn out over the last 15 months. According to Microsoft's work trend Index, 41% of workers worldwide say they're likely considering switching jobs within the next year and indeed found that 52% of respondents Had reported burnout, with the majority of those polled, saying that their level of burnout has gotten significantly worse during the pandemic.

And also i think there should be one more card. Yellow ribbon gardening. I think yellow indeed of obviously are fighting for me. I think that lee sending us. Noel shows the harshness of that no. I'm not saying monday safety. If ice ball. And i'd take off a look next do follow. Good that's my yellow nixon director. Amin now's and all Removed showed with always given young back at the don needed. Reach out to the weather. I understand what are saying supposed us and you take off a t shirt as it celebrated dying minutes. You are doing go right and the next minute you follow them then we get a gun get next month so i'm seeing for those of fouls like taking a foot or throwing the ball away from a point and all this make out. Dr green was liga. Preliminary warning i think the intimately having clean-cut date yellowcard actually can be the can actually take situation. They can see. It's a last minute goal. I think celebration will be on their way so even if they don't actually have to go yellowcard bus more lake. I'm i'm into select exploiting the wrong way and you get all those are safe house like disrespecting the so new. There's some different card for that. So that the following the phone that you look ocean your us for fouls physical fouls or. That's what i think. Yeah think physical for the the mainly the one getting god because it's actually putting the on the plan and this when spent that but the browser that your green card can be then the loading it so like if you if you decided you follow to the yellow. Does you want to actually get yellow. Just share meeting then exactly probably to green cuts can make one yellow something that that can also be. Eileen talk about later it so that was a very good talk about it. Most possession cummings beans weeks. Of course the very possession game then. Germany netherlands having a lot of innuendo getting knocked out early. That ornament surprise for thieves england beating germany chicks tech the public beating netherlands. It so very important. Italy obviously having the most tackles ninety. Nine tackles yossi on that goes to. Yeah but they had ninety nine tackles that just shows that the even though they've they're tackling that they had quelled yellow cards but i think yellow cuts again part of a match. Austin tactical falls active. There's open dante collini on soft guy. They might have a proper was going tons of that vatan. And i think it's important to see like you need to see their matches like danny. Do there are situations that you will have to be examined. The use of was vide- disdain. For me i think off the this important but evidently because what is important is to play fair game on need to and the deputies can make mistakes human i yeah so the ads important to replay showed clear to the few hand bothers given penalties fuel follows given as rate cuts but as darby. Good lord offended good. Creative skills been used by all the deems nice creativity to show that not simply playland. You don't simply play. Yeah the penalty shootouts eating any delivered properly and that that's fine. Had been to issue samuel deemed lucile also coming off. Thirty four win streak. I think and some upset you think. I think france the exit belgium williams doesn't that beginning. Italy ended up but i think more like netherlands protect the public chic playing a game. Getting another good these upsets you. So gestures that game uprising. Know even the final. I bowl happened in two minutes. All know this is very blue in because you know that it leads again the motivation incorrectly. But i want the defender say if you're founding the games i'm abounding that walls of the teams. Don't do the thing though. Bush should be substrate book. Should be today in the end. It's mainly their work at the defense. In such uncomfortable position of goal less paid on good was the siblings mystic. Taoist mistake. but you can't really blame it on any croatian player. They didn't do anything. Saw on simone but yeah but i think what i'm saying. Is that the thing that should be voiced. His will i mean in the end even in our done to croatia i understand. "41 Case show Steve's at all here, Coach Pete, the Rudo right there and having a great conversation, man. We cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time Coach. It's amazing, but it's so important tried to sort myself down. Sometimes I get excited and passionate, but I think I went slow enough for people to understand, But it's just the fact that We're going to have to pay taxes. We need to admit that and what? There's another alternative You don't have to pay. But guess what happens. There's a knock on the door. Steve, the I R s is there. They got their hand up. They don't play around and we have two different I r s is. We need to worry about when we're when we're not doing the right thing. Which I always advised to do the right thing Because you can't run from two We have the U S. I r s and then we have the and here in North Carolina. We have the North Carolina I r s. We don't want to make either one of those folks man, no point of pay our taxes. They go upon her life, but we want to pay as little as legally possible. If we have the account, set up the right way. Sure we're talking about that's the goal and it's a phone call away or it's a text away. It's 8886238858 That's 888 63 88 58 or text 41 K 221000. Talking about lists. That's how we started The last segment. Let me let me throw this one at you. Incorrect beneficiary designations. How important is it to make sure those are up to date? Yes, very important, Especially if you've had a life change in the last few years a few months or a few days because we never know what's going to happen tomorrow, do we? So let's say you get a divorce. Steve and a lot of folks listening have been to war. I mean, that happens, right? But here's what Here's what shouldn't happen. You have the expels as and then get remarried. You get divorced and remarried. You've got the expels out. Well, even if you don't get remarried, you still got the ex spouse as a beneficiary. So you want to change that as soon as possible? Because if you don't guess who gets the money? The Expos, and there's nothing you can do about it real you're right, and it really becomes a bad thing. If you have a new spouse and you forgot, or you're going to get around to it tomorrow, right, changing the beneficiaries, and then they you didn't And so when you pass away, the expels gets the money and we've seen court cases where people said that's not fair. But the court has to go by. What's on the documents, right? Really? So how important so that's the primary beneficiary. I get it. So how important and how far down do you recommend going from a secondary Maybe a third. How far down the list? Do you think you need to go? I like I really think we need some contingent Beneficiary tinge it. That's the word. I couldn't grandkids and we've seen people split it a whole lot of ways between the kids and grandkids like equally all amongst them, which is good. Sure. Okay again. The problem is one of the if one of those kids or grandkids get divorced or something, you want to make sure that the Xbox doesn't have a claim on their money or something like that. So you want to make sure they don't have a trust. It says the Expos gets everything. So it gets a little complicated, but the most important beneficiary is the original one. The one that you put on right below you and it can be more than one person. Well, let's say you're in a like you. It's you leave your wife as the beneficiary, and you and your wife are driving down the road and a big truck. It's you and then neither one of you here anymore. You take that You guys take that limousine to heaven. Yeah, well, then it goes, the life insurance company automatically looks right down to the contingent beneficiaries. So if you don't have the contingent beneficiary set up right, well, then we have a problem. It's always go. If you don't have any contingent beneficiaries. It goes to the estate and then the estate. Courts decide where it goes. Yeah, that just seems like a real nightmare for people left behind, you know, And I'm not an attorney. But, you know, I would not advise leaving it to the courts to decide. Especially when you have the power of the pen where you could decide right now, who gets the money when you're not here? So the team of Capital Financial can you help us do that? We do Beneficiary reviews a lot for folks that don't even quiet because a lot of you don't even have them set up correctly. And so and then some of your accounts are not set up court they go. They're going to go to the state anyway, unless you do payable on death, or you know those kind of things, so we are transfer on death. So if you have stock certificates you want to make sure their transfer T o d. It's called Transfer on death. And if you have CDs at the bank, whatever they need to be T p o d payable the day And so if not, they will go to the estate again. Then the state courts decided and it can take a little longer. Most beneficiary designations go within a week or so. The money goes right there instead of waiting years or if you get if it was a state is protested the state court battles We've heard the rich people of state Court battles go on for years ago. Yeah, well, we really think about the money. I mean, again. Think about Prince. It was a nightmare it and it's still in litigation. I mean, there's still fight not out. So it is confusing. It's really confusing. And so just get with a qualified team of fiduciaries. Hopefully who can? Who can help explain what beneficiaries are? And the importance of having them done the right way? The coach Pete talking text answer line is 8886238858. That's 8886 to 3 88 58 or text 41 K 221000 coach..
