He was on Mount Everest. And now he's at the bottom of the ravine. And, of course, what many believe is the greatest sports comeback of all time. Many doubted we never see it. "But sounds more like 9 P.m. local time Bass kicks it off after the 51 yard field goal on this is returnable for Hardman working his way to the right side. And that is Pringle, who is angled out of bounds out towards the 35 yard line. So Patrick Mahomes question marks as to how he's gonna handle himself in this situation. Tony last week Divisional round. It was a freak injury. It was not your normal concussion by any stretch some of the crowd artery and, you know Injury. I'd never even heard of on the football field. But I think the bigger injury that everyone's worried about the chief's organizations that perfect from the 35 homes will throw it to Kelsey to the near side cannot break away. Kelsey makes a clean catch. But he gets stuffed by Levi Wallace after a two yard pick up through the year, the most dangerous tight end in the NFL this season. The guy has been dominant six straight 1000 yard seasons. We have the best pass catchers in this game stuff. Hunting's is one Travis Kelsey is number two and four tied in He is like a wide receiver. He could match up against any defender and take him to school. Second down and long. The homes working out of the shotgun line of scrimmage from the 36 handoff running inside towards the left on Clyde Edwards layer back in the lineup will see how much Andy Reid goes to him as he plows that left side. A 40 yard line on afford a half yard games. Fisher Allegretti writer Wiley and Rivers up front for Kansas City. The ultra dangerous Tyree, killing one wide receiver McColl Hardman, the other Sammy Watkins not available. We already mentioned the credentials of Travis Kelsey. Third down and four Kansas City trying to convert here from the left half from the 41 homes down the middle of the field, lost one and it's dropped by Tyree Kale in double coverage along the left side. Hill could not haul it in and it's fourth down. What a great throw by patch from homes. Tyree kills working his name. It's white. It's too, man and so dream today means White knows he has helped over the top, but it's a corner route. Impassable homes, threads the needle into the small hole. That's there and hiring killed just cannot come down with it without it being a big play Tommy towns and cunning no rush high kick. Andre Roberts waiting for the 16 brings it in cleanly and gets hammered immediately. Roberts holds on to the football. Very fortunate. "The 40 Yard line gets to the 35 Levi Wallace makes the tackle. With 38 seconds left, the Ravens use their final time outs. That was a gain of 30 yards. Interesting decision there to use your final time out. I'm not saying I disagree, but It could be like football. Yeah. I mean, they could have spiked the football there now. You could potentially put yourself in the adverse situation, trying to get a few goal attempt to tie up this game and, wow, the field goal posts are moving right now. They are mean that side's the wind is so significant now it's at their back. But the wind is social living it that the pupil post themselves are actually moving. Tucker is over two with field goal attempts tonight, those accurate field goal kicker in NFL history its first out for the 35 yard line, Ravens, no timeouts left, Jackson takes the stack grows to the near side for Andrews that Andrews is tight end has it and will stop the clock at the 30 yard line, a gain of five Tom McDermott can't believe it. He felt like he was in bounds with 32 seconds left. Ravens will have some time as they try to get closer to field goal range. For Tucker, Usually Tom in a Baltimore Ravens game, I'd say right now they got three point right, but you cannot say that tonight with Justin Tucker. They gotta get closer. He's missed the upright twice. He's hit the upright twice that second five Jackson to throw dancing in the pocket bounces off one defender throws to the year siding complete. Be third down and five miles Boykin was the intended receiver. On that time, it looked like Jackson and Boykins. Just born on the same page. I think, Boykin I think Jackson wanted point going to stop, you know, Zone coverage. Just stop where you are. Working kept going. Your point just stopped. Jackson put it on him, and he's able to get up feeling in the first down pretty easily there doubted five Bins in the back field next to Andrews might have to be a fast bugle. They don't get the first down five seconds on the play clock. Jackson hands it off to Dobbins, running to his left. Makes a man miss slips away from the defender has the first out to the 26 yard line. And now they've got a spike it as the clock winds. 17 16 15 seconds. I'm third and nine. He takes it to the house and the Ravens an extra point away from tying it up. This is after hours with Amy Lawrence, Jerry Sandusky on the Ravens Radio Network, one of the super sized wild card weekend games and one of the four candidates for TD of the week so you can check out the options if you haven't seen them. There's a pole up on social media after our CBS on Twitter or on our Facebook page 855 to 1 to 4 to 27855 to 1 to 4, CBS. Across the board. Even with six games instead of four. The ratings dropped 22% from wild card weekend a year ago, which is triple the ratings drop that the NFL saw during its regular season. Now we have kids a city we've got Green Bay jumping into the fray this weekend. You would expect the games will be even more competitive because we're talking about the last eight teams that have a shot at the Super Bowl. Oh, by the way really quickly before we get to your calls. Aaron Rodgers was a guest of the Pat McAfee radio show, and he was actually thinking about something completely different, not football. One of my idols Growing up was Alex Trebek, you know, and being being able to be on jeopardy years ago, Even though my wardrobe outfit was the greatest choice doesn't matter everybody's dresses very bad on that show. They're They're doing some some guest hosting spots, and that's gonna be released here pretty soon, but I have the opportunity to one of those. Did you watch Ken last night? Did you watch them? I didn't see him last night. I was watching watching some film and checked in on the college football championship as well for a little bit, but I'm excited about the opportunity with jeopardy. Now. Jeopardy's declined comment. Apparently, Aaron Rodgers was not supposed to be spilling the beans. So he had he had to kind of issue a pseudo apology later. I really hope that jeopardy doesn't now turn around and say Thanks, but no thanks, Erin. I doubt it could still be a very popular guest host. But he was he was on the show is a celebrity in 2015, and he's often talked about how that is his favorite show, and he he almost never misses it and that Alex Trebek was Big time Idol of his and he shares that with my Grammy, Helen who? Definitely Mrs Alex Trebek, now 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. Let's talk to Jim, Who's in Cleveland? Jim, What do you think about the TV ratings being down for the NFL? All. Hi, Amy. You know, I was on Lee really interested in watching the Browns Steelers and the bills calls and I know you said the Old game was lone ratings. But you know, I think Coburn 19 crisis is affected everything and I know it's pretty obvious, but I think that's the bottom line. Meaning people have changed their viewing habits or maybe don't care as much about sports right now. Yeah, I think, 12. I mean, I think that Well, I think I've heard that from a lot of of listeners, and I could tell that even our social media is different, You know, in the midst of these last 10 months that have been pulling people in all different directions. I still feel like the NFL has survived relatively well, I guess my major surprise is that for the regular season, the ratings were only down 7%. So then why on this big, super sized power packed playoff weekend? Were they down three times as much? That's that's kind of a weird question. Oh, well, I know I don't um, Mic cable package. It's pretty simple, but I don't get ESPN. So I know most people probably do. But maybe that has something to do with. It definitely should for a lot of sports. Now, these particular playoff games were all on basic cable. But but I would agree with you. There are a lot of people who have cut the cord who don't have The same cable access anymore. So that's also a good point. Jim. Thanks so much for your phone call in Cleveland. Let's talk to John. Real quick in Alaska. John. What do you think, Amy? I'm not a physician. But I think the nation went through a trauma on Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday. And I think that we were in shock. Uh, I'm not. I'd be willing to bet that the ratings come back up this coming weekend and I'll bet they work a bit. This Sunday night ratings were higher. Because there was some distance between that and what the nation went through Wednesday afternoon all day Wednesday night and all day Thursday, so that you think I'm sorry just to ask you a question. You think that they were better on Sunday, then Saturday because there was an extra day of a buffer. Yes, Interesting. And I think the nation was coming out of shock. Okay? And I think a lot of people Were obsessed with the news and what was happening, No matter which side of the of the political divide you were on the nation went through. Seismic shock and was in a state of trauma and was doing nothing but listening to the news for 48 hours. And it took a couple days to come out from under that. Okay. Interesting. Well, that's ah theory that I hadn't heard John, but I'm certain that it's plausible. For many people. I know for me. I was ready to get away from it on dose ports were kind of my outlet. But certainly I would agree that we've as a nation kind of hit with some some sucker punches, some gut punches and at times it does take recovery from that. And maybe that means stepping away from media and social media altogether, which has impacted viewer. Ship across the board, not just with sports, but really every other genre. We're seeing ratings that air down there declining. Yeah, you the nation was in shock. All right, um And didn't know what was gonna happen and And Haiti can no, you're disoriented, okay? With the news outlets on what's happening. You're finding out that people died, um, on both sides. On it. And your mother's really quickly though I have to and I have to let you go because we're at the bottom here. I don't know, and I'm not making light of it, And I don't think it's political. I think it doesn't matter what side you're on that you care about what happened, But it's been a pretty traumatic year for the United States and people have still been watching football. So I understand you're saying it was a big traumatic event, and maybe people were still engaged in what was happening in the nation's capital. But let's be honest. Are our nation's been dealing with trauma now going back to March and people process it very differently. To be sure, I'm sorry to let you go because we are at the bottom of the hour here, and I have to get to our break. But thank you so much, sir. Happy New Year to you in Alaska, 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. That's 855 to 1 to four. CBS coming up a portion of my conversation with pro football Hall of Fame finalist Clay Matthews. If you missed it, he is tremendous. Here's our latest sports update. When he returns to Washington on January 20th After this recess, it may barely look recognizable new president and after last week's Georgia run off new party controlling the Senate Does a unified government same party? How Senate White House. Does that help or hinder this healing we've been talking about if the Democrats had 60 And could literally pass whatever they wanted. That would be an entirely different situation. It's still going to require bipartisan work, and I'll tell you who the real winners are. Are people like Susan Collins and Lisa Macau ski. I hope myself Joe Manchin, because because we're in the middle and can have an influence in both directions. Your football fan? Yes, sir. Seems to me. Positioning yourself between the 40 Yard lines now is is suddenly, uh, fairly healthy place to be compromises the essence of human experience. And, by the way, the Constitution itself is full of compromises. The U. S senate was a product of a compromise. And Senator King has advice for how his colleagues on the left might deal with a 70 plus million Americans who voted for Trump. There's a term I've always liked, called eloquent listening. They have to be listened to, and we have to try to understand what's going on. It's cultural and Somewhat economical means a very complicated matter. But we can't just dismiss it. Or you concerned that some of your colleagues on the left are going to govern with with an element of retribution. But crassly your karma is a you know what and after. Four years of a president Dave reviled and of Republican senators they think have been enabling and Salt on your place of work this week. That this pendulum is gonna whip back in the other direction. You can't just say, you know, no harm, no foul and pretend nothing ever happened on the other hand to be motivated by retribution, or some element of Vengeance or something. I don't think that's productive. How do you thread that needle? You don't want people to feel unheard. But you also don't want to give credence to what isn't factually true. Objective truth has to matter. It does. And you think you just gotta try But cramming things down their throat isn't certainly gonna help. How do we import these qualities of Maine of placid and measured and reasonable main? How do we import that to Washington? D. C. I think those qualities exist all over America. But In many parts of America, and we just have to try toe ring the bell of common sense. You heard the good news about covert 19 vaccines. Now they're coming, But you could do a lot more than just wait. See, you have the power to help slow the spread. Actually, you could be a real difference maker and protect your family and loved ones too. Here's how watch your distance stay at least 6 ft. Away from folks you don't live with, and it's risky to be indoors with him, too. No matter how far apart you are, and, of course, avoid crowds. Also wear a mask. CDC reports that masks protect both the person wearing them and the folks around him from particles that carry the virus and wash your hands using soap and water for 20 seconds and do it frequently. Watch your distance, Wear a mask and wash your hands simple,.

Packers have the ball second and three at their own. 32 Panthers decided to kick a field goal to make it a one score game on their last possession after a 40 yard gain. This was the same final score last year when the Packers took down the Panthers at Lambeau, and now they must hold on this Syriza against the Packers. They get a first down, it's over, the Packers will be on their way to 11 to 3 and the Panthers will be eliminated from the playoffs. Yeah,

Only the defense the defense had him where they want him. Third nine third along again made Trevor Laurence get the ball out of his hands. But This is an incredible catch. Defense has to now they can't get down. They made a play. Okay, That's fine. You've done. You've done very well in the previous two Syriza. Line up and go at him again. Third Down conversion. He looks going deep down the left side. Try to find fuller. He's got it. Touchdown, Texas. Shawn Watson finds will fuller for a 40 yard touchdown strike and the Texans extend the lead now on top 32 17 12 old nine to go. We started the game, saying he's not afraid to take shots down the field. All right, 12.37 yards per completion. It's got to be over 15 After this game, 15 to 17. That's another deep strike deadly accurate. Over a warrior. The foot race is just not there, man. I would not want that match up with the warrior, whether it's cooks or if it's a little forward. Fuller. It's his seventh touchdown catch of the year that ties his single season career high 40. Sean wanted his third touchdown pass of the game. It is his 13th career game with it least three touchdown passes. That is a new Houston Texas franchise record. The Texas will have to spend the time out here. They're gonna line up to go for two didn't have the right personnel on the field. And so what's it takes time out with 12 09 to go? I'd like to know his completion percentage with anything over, say, 40 yards. You know, you're feeling pretty good. If you could complete that close to 40%. He's gotta be over 50%. He's deadly accurate and just goes for the jugular. Anytime he can. That throw was absolutely perfect. Fuller did not break stride at all. I mean, it just dropped right into his arms. How many times we've seen it? Today we saw two Duke Johnson. He almost had it toe Bacon's he hits In here for the touchdown. Just I mean, that is just that his gut wrenching for the lions just how accurate he's been down the field. Texas will go for two Watson lines up with shotgun. Single receiver left two to the right cuties in the backfield. Watch. It's right. Johnson goes in motion from right to left. Watson takes the snap shovel pass inside the beauty and he's into the end zone. And that's a two point conversion. So Watson moving to his left that little slip.

You circle back to the game, Houston find out a little rhythm there that ball tip. Trey hand, he was able to keep running and it fell right back into his arms. Justin Harris stays in that corner with Kobe Bryant out. So bear cats have had three members of the secondary go down today. Here's a short pass caught by the same receiver. Trey Hand brought down by Brian Cook after four yard pick ups, Houston on a little bit of tempo here, getting to the line quickly calling plays quickly. As secondaries taken a little Some knocks today. Couple of guys banged up. Tell you one thing. When the bear cats face UCF in a couple of weeks, we're going to have to be ableto apply more pressure on the quarterback then they've been able to do so far today. Here's a running play up the middle. Porter almost lost the law. Avoid that bounce back into his arms. He's got it. You got it, except first down at the 38 yard line. Looks like it was ripped out. Bounced right back up to maybe not, maybe just bottled it. Seven yards on the run clock running with nine minutes to go, Cougars of March from their own seven to the Cincinnati 38 2 drops back to pass three step drop Plenty of time slings it sideways into the flat and Porter Is decked immediately by Huber after the catch fast, right and possum right. Nicely done could see that one coming pass out into the flat. And Fawcett read it all the way and was right there is the receiver caught the ball tailback, running back five yard loss on the play. So 2nd 15 at the Cincinnati 43 yard line. Clayton Tune claps His hands catches.

"An early exit. Mason Rudolph Is in a quarterback for the Steelers. I'll just mention it. This was the young man that got whacked on the head. The helmet from miles carrot. Last year, Rudolph takes the shotgun snap 1st and 10 and off left sign for Macfarlane. He's going to get almost nine yards. And toward the 41 yard line. The Cleveland Browns. There is a flag on the play with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Holding offense number 71 10 yard penalty. Matt Wyler, the Garden Mason Rudolph needs the Vocalise chin strap up. I guess he knows he's not going to get the opportunity to throw too many passes. But he needs to buckle that chin strap up. There was a couple of problems he had last year. He had that situation and in the game at home against I want to say it was Baltimore that we called on ESPN radio. He got knocked out cold before he got hit The ground. Yeah. Scary shotgun snap on the draw Handoff, McFarlane! It's just past 40 yard line. Second down upcoming Breaking news. The new owner of the Cleveland Browns is been Roethlisberger He will now go to 24 2 and one is career against. Quarter quarter rival from 2.5 hours away. We mentioned that before the before the game that Pittsburgh doesn't view this near is much of a rivalry is, as Cleveland fans do. Rudolph on 2nd and 18 after the penalty, hands it off. Nowhere to go. This is a tackle for loss. McFarland started left and nowhere to go. It's a loss of four on the play. Jordan Elliot! Larry. Okay, Jobe on the stop for the Browns. I think it was an article I read in the athletic that pulled each fan base and.

"I should say they were inside their own 40 yard line. On the Patriots 40 yard line, and they got inside the 25 30 of the Pats. You definitely think they're going to score. Sammy Watkins has the football has two hands on the football. And the reigning defensive player of the year is the fund. Gilmore had a peanut Tillman punch. Knocked the football out and J. C. Jackson did recover. I don't think the Patriots have a shot in this game tonight, and that's coming from a Patriots fan. It's only six. Not then, though, right now and you're in the early stages. Of the second quarter. So or late first quarter. Neither early stage the second quarter with 13 37 to go. I forgot what this is like having your team plan and Hosting a radio show. I do that for a while doing post game shows when I was Ah, doing a little talk radio in Philadelphia. I just don't see how the Pats keep up with my homes tonight. How this is on Ly a six point game and the chief's only have six points, man. With all the changes that happen in New England. Front seven. Not they're losing Cam in this game because the cove it Dante Hightower off there now, Patrick Chung opting out. Jamie Collins, leaving the organization Kyle Van Noy, leaving the organization bill just finds a way. To give a good first half in all three of those matchups up against my home so far in his early career. So I expect the Pats to win this game. No, no, Don't expect this. To be close to the final stage is no. But they have to find the way to go Chew off 67 minutes of this clock off this fumble and go get a touchdown or Not least a field goal. You need to get touchdowns up against Kansas City with the way that that quarterback just goes on out there and will light up the field eventually, so they're going to be faced here with the third and seven with 13 minutes to go. In the second quarter. Let me go to Brady in Ontario. Next up on CBS Sports Radio's on the Zach Gil Show, Brady what you got? Oh, I Well, I just heard that the recent Hoskins having Tommy John will Prescott is going to need Tommy John pretty soon. If you keep throwing 50 passes the game. He's on his way to throwing 800 for for the year. Just Teo, you know, to try to stay ahead of their putrid defense. I know all Smith having a renaissance, But can you imagine that like if they go six and 10 are seven and nine Ah, but yeah, Patricia stinks. He's terrible. We will. We will get to map Patricia later on the show. Because he gave a little quote. After the game the other night where I I just don't get it. What That man is is thinking I have I have a theory, though. Behind it, which we'll get to a little bit later on the show. I let me get two storylines from from week four. When we look at storylines from week for other than the aftermath, Texans losing on DH having Bill O'Brien fired we already talked about The Cowboys and them just being A team that does not meet expectations, and they could win that division at seven and nine. And you gotta throw the football because you keep on getting off to a slow start. Didn't help against the ran's in shop early again. Seattle I get. It was 14 14 against Cleveland. But then that went right down the drain. You had to throw the football coming on back. But when we get to the other week, four story lines I just want to go through. Ah, few here quickly. Let's talk about the colt. That cults. Defense is unbelievable is unbelievable. A stretch there. Ryan Traci Key because they were going up against the Bears. I have zero confidence in your biscuit. Zero confidence in folds. For me. It did not matter who was that quarterback, But the Colts defense they did did a very good job. You know, I will say this because I said this last year with the Pats when everyone was going all gaga over the Pats early on, Let's see the Colts play some tougher opponents, but The way that the Colts are built in the trenches that the Forest Buckner trade only having to give up a first round pick. That was an absolute steal. But if you look at the offense of the Colts they go up against so far. They lost the Jacksonville Week one. They then beat Minnesota made Kirk cousins just invisible in the game. They played the Jets. They played the Bears get the Brauns this week. No Nick Chubb Bangles after that burrows off to a good start. But you don't expect the Bangles to win That kid graduates is Tio Joe. Borrow job our own Joe Mixon get the Bangles their first victory of the year last last Sunday. They also suddenly before that tied the Eagles. You didn't get a bye. You get Detroit And then here comes the big test. But listen to this stretch for the Colts, Baltimore at Tennessee Greenbay, Tennessee. Now That's where we'll find out how great this defense is. I don't love the coats. I don't love any team in that division, even Tennessee and I know they're undefeated and then play this week because of the covert outbreak. That defense though, was phenomenal, and I mean phenomenal yesterday. And Nick Foles. He's not the answer in Chicago, and it's just amazing Trace how bad the decision making is in Chicago. Seriously. It's so bad you dragged your biscuit E and then you neutral biscuit wasn't going to be the guy and the grand plan was to go toe. Nick Foles, who's shown you Yes, he won a Super Bowl. Yes, He's one of Pro Bowl M v P. This guy over a long stretch is just not a a starting quarterback in this league. Just not It's amazing. The bears right had a bad court situation. Start literature, whiskey, So their solution was to bring in a guy, too, who is hot and cold throughout his career, right, terrible to start of a good off the bench. To counteract a guy who's hot and cold, as in Tiger, mostly cold with your whiskey. It's just there's no stability. There's no continuity there, and you're right. They just making a bad situation worse and sure. Nick Foles play great for one quarter against the Falcons. Now you see what happens in a full sample size? What he actually is like, And here's the thing I don't get. Why didn't they sign Cam this year? It would have been a one year deal. The on ly reason they didn't because they had to give true biscuit. You know, I was just going to say, You know the reason they Cam Newton was going to beat him out. If he was healthy. They knew Cam Newton and they knew Nick Foles. I know that we didn't see any preseason But Nick Foles. They wanted him to be the starter come week one, but they knew they had to put your whiskey out there and look how quickly they pulled him so full. I'm sorry. He's not. He's not gonna lead the Chicago team to the playoffs. The Bears I know they were three. No entering this week, and there was some optimism. I never will believe in that football team..
