How Your Favorite Movies Reveal God With Frank Turek

"Folks, I'm excited. I get to talk to a friend of mine, Frank turret. He has written a book with his son, evidently, Frank Turk has written a book with Zach turret. It's called Hollywood heroes, brand new book, Hollywood heroes, how your favorite movies reveal God Frank Turk. Welcome to the program and how does young Frankenstein reveal God? It's always great being with you, Eric. What a question. I always want to start out with a real jerk question. This is a Frankenstein book because it's my son and I together doing it, and he's actually now 34 years old in the air force. And already seminary grad, and he's a movie buff. So he said, dad, we got to do a book on movies, how they all point to the ultimate hero Jesus. They said, we're on. Let's do it. Well, a good movie, you know, has to conform to the laws of reality and to the laws of narrative and whatever. And there's no way you escape pointing to God since he's the author of reality. But most people don't know that, which is why you wrote a book about it called Hollywood heroes. Exactly. And we go through the big superhero movies, Eric, we're going through Captain America, Iron Man, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Star Wars Wonder Woman, and they all point to the ultimate hero Jesus. Superman's in there as well, by

The Economy's Not Great and Young Voters Blame Biden

"Economy is not great and younger voters blame Biden. That's totally right. Things are expensive right now. Voters ages 18 to 34 are getting poorer every single month. Prices are going up. It's difficult to live in a major metropolitan area. Phoenix and Dallas and Atlanta, inflation is anywhere between 20 to 25%, which actually doesn't hurt older people as much. If you own a home, inflation actually is somewhat good for you. Your debt liability or your debt that you own your home, your mortgage, technically stays the same, but a decreases if there are more dollar bills in the economy because everyone has more dollar bills. And so even though your debt is fixed, the amount of dollar bills is fluid, therefore the dollar bill to debt ratio goes in your favor. But most 18 to 34 year olds don't own property. They can't afford a down payment and certainly not right now, with the skyrocketing price of housing across America, not to mention student loan debt, where young people borrowed money they did not have to study things that did not matter to go find jobs that do not exist, but they do have a piece of paper showing that they studied 13th century queer poetry, which I hear is a all the rage right now at Brown university, 13th century queer poetry, very compelling stuff. And there is this general feeling of generational disgust. They know that something is not right. And they're not exactly sure who to blame. They're not exactly sure who to pinpoint for their suffering, but they know that Biden is a good start and says here, quote, the current inflationary spike is the first time many millennials and gen zers are confronting this kind of economy. Coupled with rising rent debt and ultra hot housing markets in the country's 20 largest metropolitan areas, the current affordability crisis is hitting young people, especially hard. In part due to the last recession, millennials were already a lost generation financially. And Generation Z both graduating into a recession and dealing with the pandemic economy saw higher rates of job instability, causing them to dip into their savings more than older generations.

"If the country was invaded typically the 18 to 34 year old population and let's be honest the a team to 34 year old male population because I'll give a pass here for women and children Remember what they're doing in Ukraine I love the rule that they put in place in Ukraine If you're male between the ages of 18 and 60 you can't leave that country I love that I'd want my wife and kids out of here but the idea that 18 to 34 year olds the people who are the youngest the healthiest and the most capable of fighting in a war are willing to abandon the country more than senior citizens are buck There are people over 65 who are far more likely to take up arms to defend the country than there are 18 year olds That's everything that's wrong with America today and it is scary for where we're going in the years ahead I mean yeah there was a bulge of in the polling for the younger younger age group that said they would leave the country Clay a majority Overall of Democrats Yes a majority I mean for me that was the biggest take away But 18 to 34 That's because that's the greatest concentration of the furthest left ideology within the desert As they get older and they pay taxes and you know this is what this is what always happens I don't think we're aging out necessarily a patriotism It's Yong naive people who have been brainwashed by the academy in Hollywood So this is where you're more optimistic than me My concern is these people are going to become awful human well-being leftist as they get older because of the way they've been in doubt You know a lot of them will stay that way But I mean what's really 18 to 34 versus 34 to 55 what's really the difference claiming in this poll that we have the percentages Yes I mean wildly different Tell me let me look at it because that's what jumps out of me Yes the Democrat angle is crazy Only 45% of 18 to 34s would stay in fight 57% of those age 35 to 49 That's not that bad That's not that much Well that's 57 to 37 as opposed to 45 to 48 It's a 20 point margin to stay and fight over a negative three point margin to stay in 5 Usually what I'm looking at is usually 18 year olds like who gets in fistfights 18 year olds right The younger you are usually the more prone hot headed Especially if you're male to be willing to fight right And so the fact that we've ended up there the other one that jumps out is the 65 plus I mean we got a lot of senior citizens who would be more likely to take up arms to defend America than 18 year olds I don't seniors have you know they've seen more They know more They understand You know you have Bernie Sanders is kind of an exception You have fewer seniors in this country definitely I mean even talking just when the Democrat party who were absurd commies basically I mean Bernie Sanders is a caricature of absurdity in so many ways But you have fewer people that have lived through life and actually experienced things There are 18 year olds or 22 Look you see the college campus is now all the time And it's been going on for years this way They think America is an evil imperialist Racist place and that's why they're effectively being brainwashed into acting like little revolutionaries who want to either control the system as it is now to stamp out all dissent that you see this at the big tech and everywhere else or create a cultural revolution of sorts something like what they had in China under Mao to purge all undesirable elements from our culture because it's imperialist and racist and sexist and transphobic and all this stuff See that my concern is when I was 18 I was not around very many people who thought America was a bad place Like I think when I was 18 most people who were male Well the Democratic Party's life overall Yeah it moves And that's my concern that we've got now this generation that truly does believe that America is a voice for evil as opposed to greatness And that's scary because I wonder whether those people are going to age out of it or not When we come back we will break down more surrounding the Ukraine battle And the latest on the battle for energy independence in.

"In one instance two D.C. police officers one supervisor attacked a woman named Victoria white who I interviewed twice and wrote about her last month D.C. supervisor takes his baton and strikes her on top of her head At least 13 times with a baton Now this is a small woman who is trapped in this tunnel She can not get out He then throws his baton aside and punches her directly in the face 5 times You then see her face is bloodied You see another officer with a woman who has fallen down and can not get out of this tunnel He stomps on the top of her head These are the kind of police brutality that was happening in this tunnel against women This is also the location Mark where Roseanne boyland a 34 year old woman from Georgia Trump's supporter died D.C. coroner said she died of an accidental drug overdose but she was in this tunnel She was overrun by the mob of both police and protesters We're not sure yet There is looks like some evidence that she also was beaten by a female D.C. police officer in that tunnel But she's lying face off dead in front of this tunnel And is then dragged back into the building by police officers including celebrity police officer Harry Dunn and officer aquilino but now who take her body and keep it near steny Hoyer's office until paramedics arrive She's pronounced dead at 6 O 9 There is a very good chance and this is why they don't want the video

Kelvin Cochran Shares His Story of Religious Persecution in New Book 'Facing the Fire'

"Folks, I have a privilege of speaking with somebody I think of as a friend. Kelvin Cochran, you've heard him on this program before if you've been listening for a while. Since we're doing a fundraiser with the alliance defending freedom, it's appropriate that Kelvin Cochran would come out with this book now, because he has been the victim of what has happened in America where elites don't have any idea of what religious liberty is. They've been ham handed in overreaching and in squashing people's religious liberty and at the top of that list is Kelvin Cochran, who is a hero. The new book, he has written is called facing the fire. The faith that brought America's fire chief that's him through the flames of persecution, Kelvin Cochrane, welcome the program. Thank you, Eric. It's good to see you, my friend. It's great to see you. You're an encouragement to me. For my audience, tell the story briefly of what happened to you briefly because I want to get to what the rest of the book says. But you've been through the fire and the Atlanta, the folks in Atlanta were not good to you. You were the fire chief in all of Atlanta. Yes. Yes. I was a fire chief in the city of Atlanta and of course serving my profession honorably and faithfully. And while living out my faith at the same time, at my church, Elizabeth baptist church, Eric, I wrote a book for Christian me and Bible study that dealt with me and who struggled with condemnation and double mindedness. And in the book, who told you that you were naked? I was addressing sexual sand because many Christian man still struggle with sexual sin. I used the book of genesis to talk about God's view of sexuality, simple phrases like he created their male and female that eventually mother and father cleve to his wife and to become one flash and that created them appropriate because he wanted a big family of kids. Those few paragraphs cost me my childhood dream come true 34 year fire service career when an Atlanta city council member complained to the mayor about what I wrote about biblical marriage and sexuality. The mayor suspended me for 30 days to see if I had discriminated against anyone from the LGBTQ community based on my beliefs that investigation exonerated me, however I was terminated

"Jeremie is in prison when we opened today's reading kings aci the last king of judah didn't like some of jeremiah prophesies so he's punishing him. This fills completely irrational to me. Imprisoning the prophet doesn't stop the prophecy from coming true. It's not like jeremiah was saying he was gonna personally overthrow jerusalem anyway while jeremiah as their god gives him a heads up his cousin is going to try to sell him some land then just like that is cousins shows up with the deed and jeremiah follows through what a boss move. Imagine buying real estate while you're in cellblock a the fact that jeremiah had access to this kind of money. While he was in prison seems to indicate that he was pretty wealthy. The reason that is noteworthy is because he's been coming down pretty hard on the rich in his prophecies. So is he a hypocrite. No his problem with the rich isn't their bank accounts. Being wealthy isn't a sin. The problem is that they're oppressing people in order to get and stay rich. Jeremiah buys the field until subscribe baru to put the paperwork in a safe deposit vase because he knows it's going to be seventy years before they're needed. Boldness indicates that he really believes god is going to bring the people back to the land to live on it. This wasn't a financial investment. This was an act of faith but even jeremiah is still human because immediately after this. He's like god. I know nothing is too hard for you. You've done everything you promised. But i'm struggling with this field purchase. The babylonians are already in the land. I just paid for. I love that jeremiah. Takes his questions in his doubts to god. God knows anyway and he can be trusted to speak truth to our fears and our questions. And here's what god speaks to jeremiah's fears behold. I am the lord. The god of all flesh is anything too hard for me. He patiently reminds jeremiah. That the presence of the babylonians caldeans is all part of his process. As if he hasn't said a thousand times already and as if jeremiah hasn't said it himself but we all need reminders. We all need to keep circling back to the truth over and over one of the big problems with israel and judah is that they didn't do that they were like. Yeah yeah we know now past the chisel. So i can finish. Whittling this idol. It's good for us to remember the truth of the gospel regularly to speak to others and have them speak it to us. So after jeremiah tells god who got is god tells jeremiah. Who got is. He's the god who will gather his people back to this land and restore their fortunes and in thirty to forty. God says he's not just sovereign over wars and lands. He sovereign over hearts. He says i will put the fear of me in their hearts. The good fear the mix of all and delight the kind of thing that draws us to him. He grants that to us. Not only that but he rejoices in doing good to his people after all god's family or his people forever because he's established in everlasting covenant with us. So if you're going to be with someone forever. It's probably helpful if you actually love them and are kind to them and he does and is in chapter thirty. Three jeremiah is still in prison and god initiates a conversation by saying something. That's kind of like. Hey i have something to tell you asked me what it is. Because i can't wait to tell you then you just go straight into telling him before jeremey even has a chance to speak. I love that. God wants to talk to his people and invites us to talk to him and seems pretty excited about it. He initiates this conversation with jeremiah and reminds him again that there will be restoration of jerusalem a reversal of everything. That's currently happening. It will be emptied out then filled again. He says someday jerusalem we'll have a righteous king and priests things they haven't had in a long time we already know. Jesus is the king. This passage refers to but for those of us who were part of a faith tradition. That doesn't have priests. this may feel a little odd. Here's something that may make it less strange. According to i. Peter two five through nine. You are a priest. If you're a child of god that is part of what this passage says. Is you yourselves like. Livingstone's are being built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to god through. Jesus christ you are a chosen race. A royal priesthood. A holy nation. A people for his own possession that you may proclaim the excellencies of him. Who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light by the way this doctrine is called the priesthood of believers will link to two articles on this in the show notes. In case you want to learn more in chapter thirty four we read the conversation. Jeremiah had with kings at a guy that landed him in prison. So this is kind of a flashback to where jeremiah pronounced judgement and death on him around that time said a chi- had also made an important declaration about judas slaves but first we need to remember the rules. God established about slavery. They could only keep israelites as indentured servants to pay off debt and only for seven years then they had to set them free but apparently that seven year clause was being completely ignored. This is not surprising. Given all the injustice jeremiah has been talking about one day. When babylon has the area under siege said a and makes a declaration that all the slaves should be set free and apparently he and the people committed to this as a vow to god. We don't know has a kyw's motives behind freeing the slaves. Maybe he did it because he needed more free men to serve as warriors or. Maybe he did it to try to appease god who knows regardless the slave owner set their slaves free but then the minute the siege of the city was lifted. They enslaved them again and got his not okay with that. He says this makes a mockery of his character. He's the god who set them free and since they don't get it at all he promises them judgment. My god shot today was in thirty. Three fourteen to sixteen part of that section says. I will fulfill the promise. I made to the house of israel and the house of judah i will cause a righteous branch to spring up for david and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. And this is the name by which will be called the lord is our righteousness. We've seen this phrase before on day. Two twenty five. It was my god shot. Then and it's my god shot here too. But here's what struck me about it in today's reading. I think it's fairly common for people to feel like righteousness and good deeds or something. They're bringing to god as a peace offering like. Hey look at all the good stuff. I did or i promise. I'll do better next time. Please don't be mad at me. Righteousness can feel like a promise. We're making to god but it's one we know we can never keep it turns out righteousness isn't something we present to god. It's something he presents to us. god's has righteousness is his promise to us. What i can't get over it. And i don't want to ease i. Righteousness is granted to us for free. "A well meaning single woman once told me she was claiming isaiah thirty four sixteen as her promise. That god has a husband for her. It says none shall be without her mate. I wasn't sure if i should tell her. That verse actually refers to the wild animals. Who are populating me desolate tar covered sulphur smelling wasteland. God has cursed the pretty sure. I'd rather stay single. Okay then what was your god. Shot the albit it no me. Neither mine was in god's warning to the complacent lemon in thirty two fifteen through sixteen isaiah says god's spirit will be poured out over the land which will cause people's hearts to turn back to god and they'll begin to flourish. Because the active present of god's spirit brings justice and righteousness in the next verse. He says the effect of righteousness will be peace and the result of righteousness will be quietness and trust forever. So follow me here for a second. The thread we see running through these verses is that righteousness is what brings quietness and trust. And that god is the one who brings righteousness. You don't have to manufacture your own. Righteousness you couldn't if you had to. How freeing is that titus. Three five through six puts it this way. He saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness but according to his own mercy by the washing and regeneration and renewal of the holy spirit whom he poured out on us richly. We heard this one before we knows you is working on an alliance with egypt because judah is afraid of assyria so this is clearly directed judah god says they will seek help from egypt but egypt will be rendered helpless themselves they may have horses and chariots but god has weapons judah can't even imagine he can provide in ways that are supernatural and he foretells a day when they'll finally turn to him and destroy their idols and in that day a righteous king low raid. Hopefully you've picked up on this by now. But anytime we see the future righteous king raining after the day of the lord that points to jesus of course the people in isaiah's day didn't know this they naturally assumed it would be an earthly king but a good one to contrast all the bad ones they've experienced in that day fools and scoundrels won't be exalted anymore. But for now they're still running rampant the full and the scoundrel are two distinct people. Here thirty to six describes the fool like this. The fool speaks polly and his heart is busy with iniquity to practice ungodly nece to utter error concerning the lord to leave the craving of the hungry and satisfied and to deprive thirsty of drink. And here's what verse seven says about the scoundrel. as for the scoundrel his devices are evil. He plans wicked schemes to ruin the poor with lying words. Even when the plea of the needy is right. One of the first things that came to mind when i read this was the people who work as sex. Traffickers luring unwitting poor people into lives of rape after promising them. Good jobs or college degrees. When i read about the fool in the scoundrel all i know is i never want to be.
